I have brainrot about young Coriane and her strangely Loner™️ uncle who is staying with her family, and her parents struggle to be in the same room as the guy, and she is not allowed to talk to him or be near him, but she is and always will be Mare Barrow's kid and that makes her a Problem™️. So she decides to invite him to play games with her when they are not home. First, she asks him to play hide and seek. He looks over the faded edge of the book he is scowling at and says, "fine, go hide." She giggles and runs away as he "counts". She uses her best hiding place, the one her dad can't find her in, and she waits and waits and waits (she hides for a good two hours) and then she comes out to see him still sitting in the exact same place and says, "You're bad at this game." And he just turns the page and says, "I found you didn't I?" He looks up from the book with a bored raised eyebrow and says, "So clearly you are bad at it." And she is fucking GOBSMACKED, her little mouth falls open in horror and she stares at him for a solid few seconds. He expects her to argue, to stomp her foot and be mad, but instead she just crosses her arms and glares at him in a very "Mare Barrow" fashion and it kinda unsettles him. He pulled an Uno Reverse (not that that exists in this universe but whatever) on her and she is like: I will not be fooled into losing my favorite game again. So she keeps finding all these games to rope him into: cards, a board game she realizes her parents have just been letting her win at after he wins four times in a row, a different card game that she makes up (she cheats and keeps changing the rules to try and beat him but he finds a way to out-craft her every time), and then finally one day she brings him an old faded wooden box and sets it on the kitchen table where he is reading in the sunlight and then climbs on the chair across from him and sitting on her knees takes the top off and flips it around to show him a chess board and the pieces in the box. He tenses and she very awkwardly starts setting the pieces up incorrectly (she's only seen Cal set it up once or twice when Julian comes over) but with absolute confidence that she is correct. She crosses her arms, stares him down, and says, "we are going to play." and he just stares at the board between them before closing his book with a snap and rising. "No." he says and walks away. He's never said no before and she is furious. She chases after him, begging him to come play with her, grabbing his hand and pleading until she is almost crying. Eventually she lets go of his hand in the hallway and just sits down and starts crying. He is frozen and that is when Cal pokes his head out and is like: what happened? And she runs to him crying and Cal just takes her in his office and closes the door. And then like 30 minutes later, Cal finds Maven and is holding a sniffling and puffy eyed Coriane who clings to his neck and hides her face there when Cal stands there in silence for a few seconds. Maven watches him struggle for a bit before raising a brow and saying, "yes?" Cal inhales deeply and then says, "get the board set up, we're going to teach her how to play." And then just goes into the kitchen where the board is still waiting. Maven hesitates, then slowly follows and eyeing them like a cornered animal as Cal gives Coriane a glass of water and calms her down a little more. He brings her over at the time as Maven readjusts the pieces and sits down with her in his lap and begins explaining the pieces, what they can do, etc. And Maven watches her purse her little lips, and laughs internally because she is literally 5 years old why the heck would she be able to play chess? And then they start playing and she is getting it (kinda sorta, she's getting it for a 5 year old), guarantee she has Cal helping her and it is mostly him playing, but she is asking all the questions and understanding his answers and she has more than glimmer (more like a shine) of a strategic brain. And then when they win she is so excited and Maven smiles at them, and then Cal smiles at him.

The social season was continuing on, lords and lady’s were finding their matches and spending quality time with their matches as their bonds strengthened, or depleted. Seems this season was up and down for most of the lady’s, whatever was in the air was toxic.

You’d had a total of five dances with the duke after his ‘proposal’ you felt like he was still a mystery though. You knew of his confliction though, his vampirism, his emotional side, his non-talkative side, his dick head side and you still knew nothing. He thankfully hasn’t given you any midnight visits in your room again, though the only time you spent together was dinner or at a party. At dinner he would put on a perfect act, smile and speak about his trades and life that you felt like he made up. When asked about his parents you felt his anxiety’s like your own, before he’d cover it with a story you didn’t believe one bit. You hated his perfect act, not when you’ve seen him so broken and he’s seen you so broken, maybe it’d all been for naught.

There was yet another party tonight, you hated it even more now you were dancing with the duke. People would whisper about you, they never said anything nice. They’d say you were just looking for attention, that you were just another bed warmer, seeking high company because you looked the way you did. It all hurt, their words stung you like bees. You weren’t right for the duke, not in looks, personality, anything really, you were opposites. When the duke would initiate a dance you disliked it, hated how the people talked, the older lady’s whispering, giggling or glaring. You would stare at his chest or the floor, you’d try to focus on his scent, his coolness, but it never worked. The whispers felt like loud laughter and snarky comments echoing in your mind, their looks were enough to send you to your knees had you not been held up, and all the while you felt like the duke never noticed, or didn’t care, after all he was ‘stuck with you’.

This party felt worse than the rest, it was clear now who was getting with who, what matches worked and what ones didn’t, gossip flying around like flys to food. Your family had suffered also, whispers about them led your mother to be embarrassed and ashamed while your father tried to hold it all together and talk such gossip away, but lady’s were lady’s.

You stood by Jen and Karlach sipping the sparkling fruit juice that was on the table. You didn’t see or sense the duke tonight and for some reason you felt happy about it, relieved. Jen and Karlach were talking while you simply listened before you saw Duke Ravengard coming over.

“Lady’s” he greeted with a smile, the omega lady Lila on his arms smiling also.

“Duke Ravengard” Jen bowed respectfully as did Karlach before he looked to you. You smiled at the couple, greeting them also.

“So has there been a proposal yet?” Jen said cheekily with a slight smirk making the poor omega flush embarrassed and Wyll chuckle nervously.

“Not yet” he said.

“Soon hopefully” Lady Lila said and you nodded smiling, but found a bittersweet jealousy lodged in your mind.

“I was just coming over if you’d like a dance, Lady Y/n, Duke Ancunin doesn’t seem to be here” Wyll said with a frown glancing over the crowd.

“Oh, no that’s highly inappropriate-“ you nodded to Lady Lila who smiled brightly shaking her head.

“Nonsense I do not mind, besides I need a drink” she said as she let Wylls arm go and pushed his hand out to you.

“Be my guest” she chuckled and you gulped, but nodded. You to the dukes hand feeling the familiar warmth. A country song began to play and the dance was more upbeat than the last as you began. You felt the stared the murmurs, going in a circle you heard some of their words.

“Stealing an already taken duke? Gods”

“Who does she think she is?”

“Like the duke would ever willingly dance with her, her family probably paid him”

“Looking like that? Most certainly had some agreement”

“Thought she was warming Duke Ancunin bed”

You stopped when the comments became too much, tears in your eyes as you rushed out the home, Duke Ravengard calling to you.

You ran into the gardens and sobbed, leaning against the small garden shed. You cried softly hanging your head in shame.

“Lady-“ you heard Duke Ravengard and looked up seeing him. He spotted you and you took off again, gods why was he out here?

“Gods go away!” You said as he followed you a frown on his face.

“Can’t you hear them?!” You snapped as he looked to you.

“It was a simple dance” he said and you scoffed.

“Duke Ravengard” you felt your body shudder at the sound of your vampire mate, he wore a black and red suit with silver embroidery.

“Duke Ancunin” Wyll nodded.

“Is something the matter?” Duke Ancunin looked to you as you spoke and you sighed.

“Alone again in the garden with two men! Truely I will be more to talk about, please, just go” you said sagging. Duke Ravengard nodded with a sad look on his face and left while your vampire mate stayed.

“What has happened?” He asked walking closer making you tense.

“Did you not hear a word I just said?” You asked.

“I did, however you are in distress, your scent is like rotten cakes and you’re trembling” he said glancing over you as he stood in front of you.

“Now, tell me what happened” he said eyes gazing at you. You cursed him silently and looked away, praying nobody would come.

“Silly womanly things you shouldn’t concern yourself with” you huffed arms crossing and resting by your stomach. He took a small breath, like he was sniffing.

“You’re not on your cycle or due” he said and you felt your cheeks burn.

“You don’t know that!” You said embarrassed.

“I would smell your slick, the change in your scent” he grinned lightly and you glared.

“That doesn’t matter, that’s not what I’m talking about either! Gods!” You groaned almost wanting to stomp your foot.

“You’re a man, a wealthy man you have no worries, now please leave before someone comes and decides to gossip more!” You huffed feeling your shoulders sag.

“What are they speaking about? You?” He asked head tilted and you stared at him, was he interested? Now?!

“You care now?” You blurted before you instantly regretted it and saw hurt flash across his face.

“Astar- Duke Ancunin please leave” you said gesturing to the exit as he narrowed his eyes.

“Why must you be so stubborn?” He tsked and you glared.

“Why must you be such an asshole?” You put your hands on your hips and gave him a look. He kept your gaze and you almost cracked till he chuckled lightly.

“Cheeky little pup” he said and you felt your cheeks go hot again.

“Perhaps we should talk tonight, after this party?” He said a new seriousness in his tone, an unknown look in his face also.

“I- alright” you sighed.

“After the party how?” You asked confused and he smiled.

“A late night visit” he simply said beginning to walk away leaving you with your mouth hung open.

MORE HOTD REPTILES AU 🤗 EDIT: After I took a nap I checked the post on my phone and the quality of the image looked like crap, dont know if it is my damn phone or what, but just to make sure I divided the strip in parts, now it looks fine in my phone, I like looking at Vhagar the komodo dragon in good definition ok xD? Also Arrax with his cute little crown. Im in pain, I commited myself and finished this in almost 3 days, never again lol. Headcanons time: -If you follow my other posts you know Aemond and Luceyrs are roommates, Aemond lied and said Vhagar “was friendly” so Luke will stay with them, he had been very careful and nothing happenned for like 3 weeks, but the one time he went jogging and didn’t make sure Vhagar’s enclosure was properly closed something happened.  -His “Lucerys it’s in danger” sense tingled and he came back in time to prevent disaster, but Luke saw Vhagar in his room. -Lucerys knows Vhagar its not “friendly”, but he also wanted the roommates situation to work, so he feigned ignorance and trusted Aemond, after all Vhagar did listen to him, most of the time.  -Vhagar did want to have snack time so bad 😞, but she also loves her almond, so no eathing the tiny dragon, Arrax its “her friend” now, and shes also a new member of Luke’s youtube videos! Plenty of new subscribers thanks to that 😂. -Yes, their silly costumes are a little bit of an hommage to their HOTD real characters, after all we do love to make Luke and Aemond queen and king (Or kings) in a lot of fics 😋. -Also also, yes Luke its wearing crocs with cute charms on them, I also love jogging pants, very comfortable 😌. -Vhagar its inded as tall as Luke when she stands, she’s a full grown Komodo, my doberman its as tall as me when he stands, so I think that makes it possible, I’m like 1.60 m,  5.25 feet, so yeh. -After this Vhagar and Arrax become really good friends indeed, they take walks together with Luke and Aemond, they sunbathe, Luke makes videos with both of them from time to time, they also play catch and chase together, this scares Luke a little, but Vhagar will not hurt Arrax, they are important to her know, Aemond likes them, so does she. -The costumes and videos are a little bit tedious, but Luke makes sure to never do something she hates, and Aemond always gives her special treats and cuddles after them, she also gets a fanbase that sends her gifts! Luke says she’s a star now 😘. -MOre lore that keeps me awake at night: Targ special pet companions Need to be a reptile or amphibian+ blood magic with a Targ blood family member sample, usually blood+ some other secret enchantments. Usually, the parent will bring their baby or child and be shown a wide variety of options, specifically eggs, and if there’s a connection with one or more, they are taken and can go through a series of trials and blood magic rituals, and the one that hatches at the end it’s the one that goes with the client. This process can take some time and specially lots of money from the client. Also, it can only work with people from Valyria, the only ones that can really afford this type of thing are the Targs and their blood family members. They may or may not also have a very restrictive contract with the dragon keepers for this kind of service too, hehe. Driftmark incident and bonding with Vhagar!: Alicent lets Viserys have his way with Aegon and Helaena, they got their pet companions since very young, she agreed since both were also relatively safe options, but then he started to get sick and wasn’t as able as before. She never liked this tradition the Targs had, just looking at Rhaenyra’s Syrax, or even worse, Laena’s Vhagar, the seven forbid one of her kids bonds with a monster like that, so with Aemond she gets more control of what her son get access to bond with, small geckos, frogs, turtles…safe and/or small companions, but none of those take, time passes and then Aemond decides he wants to have a big crocodile like his father, Alicent hates the idea, she wasn’t a Targaryen, so she really didn’t believe it was safe. But no matter what other small safe reptiles Aemond was shown none of them reacted. Aemond knew why, he didn’t want any of those “safe” companions, Aegon and Jace won’t stop bullying him with one of those, he needed something that commanded respect, not something “small and safe”. More time pases and Aemond still doesn’t have a pet companion, Alicent stops trying, and he gives up a little. The day of the funeral the kids dare Aemond to go into Vhagar’s enclosure. He accepts and goes into Vhagar’s room at Daemon and Laena’s house, there he finds this really big lizard he has never seen before. The dragon keepers haven’t shown him anything like it, and even if it’s not a croc, he knows this would definitely do, his excitement goes away when he kind of feels the creature’s sadness. He starts to sing her a Valyrian lullaby (The one Daemon sings to Vermithor), and this catches Vhagar’s attention, she goes out from her enclosure and Aemond touches her snout (Like in how to train your dragon, hehe) while he says Lykiri and Dohaeras (Like in the show!). Vhagar can sort of feel the connection, but we still need the blood for it to be completed. Cue the other children. Aegon and Jace can be a little bit mean and feel kind of “attacked” (Inferiority complex it’s that you?), that Aemond it’s getting a good reaction from Vhagar, they weren’t expecting that after all, and because children can be little shits they enter the room and try to make fun of Aemond for singing Vhagar a lullaby, Vhagar has never seen this other children before and doesn’t like all the noise so she goes back to her enclosure. Rhaena and Baela are not vibing that much with the bullying, neither does Luke, but then Aemond gets mad and lashes at everyone, telling them they have lame companions, how they wish they could have something as cool as Vhagar, especially the idiot Strong bastards. Luke and the girls are sad and crying and answering their own mean things to Aemond and then everyone its fighting. Aegon knows their parents are gonna kill him if something happens, so he runs away in search of the adults. There is some stuff used to feed Vhagar in the room (Gloves, scissors, thongs and stuff like that) and in the struggle those things end up in the floor with Aemond and Jace, Aemond grabs the scissors and slashes them around in desperation and ends up cutting Jace a little. Its then that Luke, that was comforting Laena and Baela after they got punched in the squabble, sees this and gets scared, and ends up pushing Aemond, he trips around the mess and pierces his eye with the scissors, by then the adults arrive and all hell breaks loose. While everyone screams, Vhagar gets close to Aemond and licks some of his blood from the floor, Laena its dead, and she likes this feisty hatchling, so the bonding gets completed. Still, the adults are fighthing, but the kids get to say the truth about the taunting and the mean words and Alicent, Rhaenyra and Viserys see the damage that has been done through the adults mean remarks and hatred. So yes, they are all very mad, and are not in the very best terms then, but they all decide to start going to family therapy, so not everything goes to shit in a couple of years, this way Lucemond and Jacegon can still be a little bit toxic, but nobody needs to die, ok? Also Alicent freaks out and almost passes out when she sees the monstruosity sitting at her son’s side, that makes everyone go back to their rooms, lol.

Because telling her parents that Tim is Robin would lead them to Batman's identity and that would be all kinds of bad

She convinces Tim to take her to meet Batman at risk of her never speaking to him again

And he knows she'd do it

Random Eclisper/Whispclipse rant woohoo 🎉

I started shipping this when I realized Eclipse and Whisper share many similar and personal things, specific to them. Starting with something VERY specific only to them, both have experienced the loss of people that were like family to them, the cause of both major losses being tied to Shadow in some way (Team Dark/GUN for Eclipse, and the Shadow Androids for Whisper.)

Being able to bond over this similarity could lead to trust and understanding on both ends, strengthening their bond with one another even just as a beginning friendship. When talking about her past with the Diamond Cutters, Whisper clarified they had been betrayed and killed, with Whisper being the only survivor and was left feeling extremely guilty over their deaths because of it. Sound familiar? It should, because nearly the exact same thing happened to Eclipse, where the Black Arms viewed Shadow as a traitor to their kind, and he killed the remaining of their species, leaving Eclipse feeling betrayed and hurt.

What's nice about these two is the fact that they could both apply to the idea of two tragic characters who need to learn to heal from the past, and deal with their traumas, which they can do together by understanding each other's sides of the story. 

Moving on, they're a perfect example of the opposites attract trope, which I ADORE when done right. Their personalities clash, with Whisper being silent, introverted and somewhat lacking in self-confidence. Eclipse, however, is loud, brash, egotistical and EXTREMELY confident. Eclipse can be the one to give Whisper the encouragement she needs when she needs it, meanwhile Whisper can be the one to help restrain him from making quickly-thought-out or rash decisions, (besides Shadow of course,) helping him learn to not be so impulsive.

They are literally "completely and utterly feral x the only one with some chill" and that makes some room for character development between them both. Also, something that is moreso based on my personal observations of both characters, Eclipse would be a talker, while Whisper would be a listener. Although, if the roles were to reverse given the situation at hand, I believe Eclipse, having shown to be genuinely caring towards the people he trusts, wouldn't mind being the listener if that's what Whisper needs him to be.

And lastly, just something cute that might've been obvious, they both care for a group of wisp (or in Eclipse's case, the Dark Arms, but those are just wisp with Black Arms DNA so it's the same thing lol,) that they have grown to love like family and would do anything to protect. Plus I think it would just be cute if they're literally just minding their own business while Whisper's Wisp and the Dark Arms are out in the background causing chaos, and when somebody comes to ask what's going on both Whisper and Eclipse are just like "it's fine."  Eclipse has wisp parenting experience and so does Whisper XD

If Madara raises her, would their relationship change in comparison to a normal Madara raises Obito AU?

Yes, let's keep it going!

I think it would be sort of cute. Madara's unhingedness would definitely rub off on fem!Obito XD But there are differences compared to her male counterpart.

Madara would probably spoil her a lot and Obito wouldn't be aware, and it's mainly because Madara thinks she looks like him and has a great potential as an Uchiha.

I often imagine fem!Obito being very annoying, probably more annoying than her male counterpart and knows how to easily piss off Madara, LOL. Male Obito is more stubborn and outspoken, but fem!Obito is fully of energy, loves to play pranks, and is definitely the type that would curiously attempt to stick a fork in a socket or touch a candle's flame. XDD Madara is often done with her during these times while he would be quick to discipline or hit male Obito for doing anything rash and childish XDD

However, fem!Obito is quick to develop a sense of admiration towards Madara, and would angrily defend him if anyone were to say something wrong about him, unlike her male counterpart who tries to do things his own way and is often quick to disagree with Madara despite the respect he has for him. She seems to be happy to listen to him when he is advising her, and during serious moments the last thing she wants to do is upset him.

They have a strong bond - it's more of a parental bond, whereas with male Obito, it's a mentor-student type of bond. And fem!Obito is waaay more emotional than her male counterpart, meaning her visions can easily align with Madara's because he validates her in some way.

However, that doesn't last so much when she grows up. Fem!Obito always ends up trying to find her own way, and during the moments when she starts to disagree with Madara and tries to do what she thinks is right, it creates an unfavorable tension between them. It's mainly because fem!Obito wants to prove that she can make her own path without Madara's intervention, while Madara wants to forge her path, so when she grows up, they end up clashing with one another.

How each girl first achieved their magic winx form latest to earliest

Bloom

The one we see on screen, added bc I felt weird excluding her XD

Bloom gets her base from obnoxiously late in life due to everyone around her accidentally stifling her magic by trying to convince her it wasn't real. Despite this, her magic was developing at a normal, if slower due to never practicing, rate for a girl her age

Her transformation is brought by her single minded determination to stop the Trix and her determination to become a part of this new world by proving she's a fairy.

Aisha

Poor girl, very late bloomer. Yeah her magic was hella stifled due her parents rules, nannie's constant scolding, never being allowed to do the stuff she actually liked. Ect ect

I actually have two ideas for Aisha's first transformation

1) it's when Annie is still around and she encourages Aisha to connect with her magic and express herself this way

Annie and Aisha mostly fuck around doing magic shit, probably because Annie is super impressed by it, and they want to do something over their level™ and Aisha is just so excited to do the thing that she concentrate so hard she achieves her basic form

Or

2) the first time Aisha runs away, she nearly gets caught, but her desire to just be free was so powerful that it caused to immediately transform and get away

This version is far more dramatic, but establishs Aisha's magic as an extension of her self determinism, freedom, and strength (even though that last one is obviously). After this Aisha immediately runs around talking to different magic users about their magic (getting the idea for Morphix surfboard from a magic user with the power of Waves, that she and Nabu eventually bond over both meeting)

Anyway

Once she got her magic, she took every opportunity to do what she wanted with it and practice things that make her happy, mostly due to Annie's influence. Which eventually led to her Morphix. This line of thinking then turned to using her magic whenever possible and she refused to listen to anyone who would tell her to stop no matter what. This passion and immediate connection to her magic as a symbol of freedom allowed her magic to flourish perticually fast

Musa

As far as Magic development goes, Musa was pretty average. Her mother's death made her magic development a bit wonky but due to her more healthy approach to grief, especially compared to her father, her magic didn't get thrown super off track. She definitely used music to process her loss, and her magic was a part of that. Musa's connection to her magic is a lot more like Flora's, and I think learning how her magic worked while processing her grief contributed to making her relationship with her magic more emotional than normal. You'd think her dad banning her from going into the industry would stifle her but it really didn't. She always knew it was a knee jerk reaction because he didn't want her to face the same fate as her mother, so she's always thought she'd be able to convince him otherwise (though she was very nervous about it) and due to paying for Musa's schooling and paying off medical debt he was never around to really enforce it. It was kinda just her and her music

On that note Musa's magic winx kinda snuck up on her. She was preforming a song she wrote to an audience of herself and she got so caught up in her feelings that she didn't know she was flying until she looked down and fell. This is pretty unusual because transforming is very noticeable, but due to the fact that she's been surrounding herself with/constantly using her own Magic on a daily basis it just kinda happened seamlessly. It barely lasted a minute though, which lead her to actually practicing her transformations more...which means flying around and singing to herself. Love her

Tecna

Tecna got her magic Winx ahead of schedule. Tecna bypassed all the usual ways of getting her base from by brute forcing it, which probably isn't the best but it's not harmful. It's mostly just kinda weird. Her parents are overbearing and when they heard that Tecna was in one of the highest percentiles of magic production they immediately pounced on that and starting getting her tutor after tutor to make sure that Tecna was well advanced beyond her peers in magic on top of all the other stuff

Tecna decided that all this talk of *feeling your magic* was dumb, and just kinda kept flooding her body with as much magic from her core as possible until it took shape as a magic form

After doing this, Tecna took one look at how her magic form allowed her to be always hooked up to the internet (allowing her to remote in and use her computer whenever the fuck she wanted) and immediately set upon learning how to to do something as close as possible to that without transforming

Flora

Flora got her magic Winx early. She took the classical Lymphea route to achieving magic Winx/practicing magic. Lymphea has a staunch emphasis on connecting with nature, never taking more than your need, not destroying what allows your life, using every part of what you have so nothing goes to waste ect ect so once Flora got her magic she set on connecting with nature as quickly as possible (she was really excited about being the fairy of plants ok?). This mostly showed itself though sorta meditation (she wasn't trying to meditate) where she'd sit in her favorite grove and try to connect to all plants in the area (which is why Flora in perticualr always has a passive connection with all plants around her, she started that habit here) she was really really excited so this happened faster than for most faries

Talking to nature and having a passive connection are two very different levels of magic, so when Flora was concentrating very hard on one of her plants that kept nearly dying and she had no clue why to figure out what was wrong with it, she transformed into her magic winx and preformed her first spell at the same time and figured out it was because of the ph balance in the soil

Stella

Stella got her magic Winx noteably early. Children usually get their magic Winx when their early middle school aged, Stella got hers in elementary school pretty young, which is weird, and signaled her out specifically as a maybe prodigy

At the start of Radius and Luna's fights, Stella was just starting to see the beginning of her parents crumbling marriage. She knew that her parents tended to come together for her milestones, so she decided to work really hard on channeling her magic (which is something she has a natural skill in, unbeknownst to her at the time) to achieve her magic Winx

Due to the fact that Luna, rarely if ever, brought Stella to her home planet of Noctilucae and rarely did magic with her daughter; Stella didn't have much if any connection to her moon powers. Especially because it's never night on Solaria, so Stella got no way to connect on her own. Unsurprisingly this led to Stella's magic Winx being massively unbalanced, which is terrible for her magic health mind you, and Radius and Luna in all of their parental glory immediately get into an argument about this. Luna being miffed that Stella's sun powers are over represented in her magic form, and Radius getting really smug about it

This is when there marriage started really getting bad, leading to them taking constant breaks while Stella was in middle school that mostly consisted of Luna going back to her home planet and not making contact, till their divorce the year before s1 when Stella blew up the lab on accident because of trying to distract herself from the news

Stella seems to blame herself specifically for her parents divorce, assumedly because they'd drag her into their arguments constantly, and this is where that mainly stems from

Hey hey, I'm gonna do this here, because the text would be too long for the answer box below your post and I really don't wanna spam, so I'll just... yeah, do it here, if that's alright with you ^^

So, basically I got this character in mind, that grew up in the apocalypse and is 20 by the end of the game. She had a name given to her by her parents, but after losing them in the very early days of humanity's downfall, she kinda 'forgot' it. Not really, but she just didn't use it as often anymore, since she actually almost never met any other people after losing her parents.

The only thing she has left, is her little Golden Retriever dog, that she protects with her life (and vice versa). The girl is all he knows and even though he is well trained from the start thanks to her parents, he is very protective of her, resulting in some... not so pleasant situations with strangers.

The name of the dog is still debatable xD I'm thinking about calling him Rosso or Rufus, but haven't decided yet.

Anyway, they try to survive together, living of everything they can find and taking whatever they can to live a somewhat comfortable life together.

As they grow up, with the help of a few people they meet on the way but leave again, the girl and the dog become real survivors, developing certain routines when scouting out the area or when trying to reach food, that seems a bit risky to take.

They develop a strong bond and the girl has been given many names by the people they met now, never saying what her real name was and never telling anyone, what happened to her family. She wants to leave that all behind, even though she tries to keep the memory of her parents.

At one point, the girl and the dog even meet the Ericson Kids, but after a few days of staying there, talking to them and even helping 'em out, she leaves again (making her dog pretty sad, since he got to be good friends with Rosie).

But she decided for herself, that she's not made for groups and that her dog is all she needs.

After a few more years, her dog is 14 years old by then, he becomes really sick though. He couldn't walk that much before that, but now he can barely move a muscle without feeling pain. They travel one last time together, until they reach their hometown, where everything began.

The dog passes away after a few more hours there and the girl, well, young woman, is on her own again. For the first time since the apocalypse started. She buries the dog and gives him a nice little tree for his eternal rest, then she mourns him and leaves the next morning.

After being alone for some time, she finds herself in a big city, where she's looking for food. In a dumpster, she finds a young puppy, who's been abandoned by his mother and littermates. So she takes him with her, training him, guiding him, until he's big enough to defend himself. She gives him the choice to come with him or leave, but as attached as he already is to her, he follows her.

Just like her first dog did all those years ago. And with them, the story continues.

I love this!! There’s a lot to be told with this story, the poor babies. Honestly in the apocalypse things get real fucked up to where you question if you can really put your trust in humanity, however no matter the given situation you can always rely on a furry friend.

I know throughout the series there hasn’t been any good luck with animals but in a case where you can have time to form a connection with them is all the more heartwarming! Ugh it does break my heart, but I’m so glad she has another puppy to take care of here! 😭😭 Thank you for sharing! I would love to hear more in the future! <3

This is... harder than I thought it would be? I don't know it off the top of my head, but when I'm there, I recognize the feeling. Sometimes when it's with certain people, regardless of the physical location. Other times, I can just be alone and relax whatever has knotted itself in my core.

Uhhh. Why are these such stumpers?

Listen to music, I guess? Sometimes I can find peace in an activity (like baking), but other times that same activity just infuriates me. What *do* I do to feel at peace?

“Just ask,” she whispered in Sara’s ear in a husky voice as they stared down at the blue and green ball that was Sara’s home planet. “Just ask, and I will spare them all.”

A shiver ran down Sara’s spine as she looked at the planet, spinning on heedless of the danger. Even though she knew she wasn’t looking at her planet, large windows were a ridiculous risk on a spaceship. The screens that surrounded them, however, were so realistic that she couldn’t help the flutter of fear in the pit of her stomach. Her breath caught as Chlo gently trailed the backs of her fingers over Sara’s cheek.

“Aren’t you supposed to offer something else?” Sara’s voice trembled as she turned her head to study Chlo, who gave a soft chuckle as she walked over to lean on one of the screens. Sara resisted the urge to pull her away from the endless black that surrounded them.

“What would I offer that I haven’t already done for you? I have killed and died, making those meaningless sacrifices to prove my love. But to spare a life? To let those live that I think should die is a gift I have given no one else.”

My #1 post of 2022

Maybe it's because I know that my Tumblr is a tiny corner of the internet where few dare to tread but here is where I feel I can write something.

My brother's birthday is coming up, and with everything that has been ongoing for everyone globally and me personally, the date has been hitting harder this year.

My brother would have been 46 years old on the 15th of this month. What would our relationship look like? Would we have bonded, like my sister and I managed to do once we started to get away from my parents? Would we have lost all touch?

I get a little down when it comes to the anniversary of his death because it's a terrible thing to remember. It's a time period that's engraved deep in my core. But what's worse, in some ways, is coming up to the date of his birth and thinking about all the birthdays I didn't get to celebrate with him. All the happy things I didn't get to share with him.

It's been years, and the grief gets smaller and mostly I'm ok - but it never really goes away. You always miss them, no matter what anyone says.

We have so many arcs going on here and my predictions are way different than my expectations, they are almost the opposite sides of the possible plot of s4.

So SPOILERS ALERT!

Wukong is going to lose the fight with LBD of course xD I'm more than sure about it. But also he won't die, I think season 4 it's too soon for that (if the writers plan to let Wukong die at all... it would be actually interesting to see some angst when Mk literally replaces Wukong as the new Monkey King). I guess he will hide somewhere to recover and I wish he would meet Macaque halfway. They really have things to talk about. I'd like to watch the whole ep with only them talking/fighting. the fact they both have different views on what happened between them, and we don't know either what happened or what they think about it, it's just thrilling and intriguing.

Also, I'm a big fan of a theory that Wukong has kinda complex bc he hurt Mei and disappointed his successor. He's kinda still in the "punishments&praises plus self-interest" level of morality (it's a child level if you dunno what I mean), I think that's why he always runs away from consequences. He just doesn't believe in forgiveness and redemption (maybe that's why he did what he did to Macaque). So Wukong getting a bit obsessed to earn Mei and Mk forgiveness without even trying to directly apologize to them? I'm in that angst, baby

Also Macaque is finally free and nothing forces him to do anything. I'm super curious about his arc. He was my very first love in lmk, I can't hate him for anything, I just understand and feel this character too badly

Mk and the crew... I didn't watch the English translation of the scene when they talk about what they're gonna do now xd So no idea, are they looking for Mei? I don't know xd although I'm still waiting for Sandy's true potential reveal and Mk going apeshit

RED SON. YEAH.

Look, I was so hyped and I overanalyzed EVERYTHING about Red Son in season 3, my BFF read essays about him day and night for two weeks, and I'm not gonna write everything down right here right now, but LISTEN, there is no other way to explain what he's doing in this season, he got pretty attached to Mei, or at least to protagonist, but listen, hear me out omg

~ Red Son was wandering around the world with her dragon plushie, looking for Mei to help her with Samadhi ~

TRY TO READ IT AS A FRIEND'S INTENTIONS WHEN THEY ARE LITERALLY STILL STRANGERS

And however obsessed I sound, the truth is, Mei's arc is really expanded right now, she went through a lot of trauma, she holds a lot of pain, she was betrayed and used, she's not a sunny smiley sweet girl sidekick with sick dragon powers anymore. She's not someone who's gonna tease or joke with the only person who can help her with the mess she's forced to live with.

And Red Son on the other hand had his quite long now story of redemption, he's completely into supporting protagonists, even against his parents, even despite the fact protagonists literally used him, punched him, stole and wrecked his car right after he saved them and let them eat, drink and sleep in his house. We still don't know why is he doing all of this, completely selflessly and quite desperately tbh.

So whatever relation between these two will be, it visibly can't be slick and simple like their teasing-competing relationship from Spider Queen ep. They both have complex arcs now, it's hard to write their training plot as a 'buddies bonding time' thing or sth like that. They both know how serious is the situation, so their bond after 4 will be really deep and strong

Or the writers will make fun of them or put a lot of drama, I'll be mad if they make fun of my poor traumatized Mei and my selfless gold-hearted Red hero

i WISH we'll see some dragonfruit, but there is no love plot in lmk so far, and I know other cartoons directed by Sarah Harper (for example Glitch Tech), and she's not really into "let them kiss'' stuff XD however, I love her for the absolutely brilliantly created man-woman best friends tropes. Mk & Mei relationship is so purely natural friendship arc! So whatever she's up to with Red Son and Mei, I trust her it's gonna be good

It seems like everything was going downhill when the training camp ended.

Bokuto is tired. Mentally and physically.

The usual training he does seems too exhausting, arguing with Akaashi has been tough and his brain can't even decipher what his math teacher is saying right now.

All he could think of is you.

Bokuto rubbed his eyes, hoping he doesn't get called to solve infront. He hardly got any sleep last night since he spent the whole evening arguing with akaash which led to him sleeping at his parent's house.

And to top it all off, what Konoha said to him last week didn't sat right with him.

"After you and L/n talked, I saw Kuroo leading her into one of the spare rooms, seems pretty interesting to me."

He gritted his teeth, he should stop thinking about you, but he stops and some form of realization sort of settled in him.

Is this how the universe is punishing him right now?

Bokuto forced the thought in the corner of his mind, he just needs to clear out his head for a bit.

What am I feeling...?

"Akaashi! Set for me!"

Akaashi felt like he was in a trance, it took a few tries for his team mates to snap him out of it. Every few seconds he would glance back to the entrance to see if his boyfriend will come practice.

"Maybe he's just late."

He tried to reassure himself, since it was normal for his lover to be late by a few minutes. Konoha raised his brows and gave Akaashi a questioning look.

"Didn't Bo tell you?"

Akaashi felt his heart rate speed up as he asked anxiously, "What?" He bit his lip, already not liking the feeling of unease settling on his stomach.

"Bo said he'll stay for a couple of days in Miyagi."

Talking to Kuroo... feels actually nice.

Even if you get fed up with his nerdy antics, you won't deny that he already got a special place in your heart.

"Hey, are you even listening to me?" You heard him complain on the speaker of your phone as you twirled a lock of your hair absent mindedly.

"What do you expect me to do? I just finished a ridiculously hard exam, my brain needs to take a breather." You snorted as you can hear the Nekoma captain sigh.

"You know that I could've helped you right?"

Hinata and Kageyama looked at you with curious looks as you tried to shoo them away. "Go do loved dovey things to each other."

"You're always on your phone! We wanna hang out with you!" Hinata pouted as he tugged your sleeve.

"I guess that's my cue to leave." Kuroo said, resulting a light chuckle to leave your lips. "I guess so too.. Talk to you later?"

Kuroo hummed, a smile plastered on his face as he talked to you on the other end of the line. "Of course."

"Bye." You said as you hanged up, although it was probably best that you shouldn't have since now you can't escape the teasing and questions that are about to come.

"You like her."

Kenma stated, Kuroo tried to fight off the smile that threatens to make it's way on his face. "How come?"

"I can tell. Now dom't bother me, I ahve to beat this boss." Kenma mumbled as the whirrs of his electronic device gets louder. Kuroo could only sigh and looked at him fondly.

"Goodluck."

Kenma snorted, eyes not leaving the console in his hand "I should say the same to you. If this is going to be like your-"

"It wont be." Kuroo cutted his friend off, a firm tone clearly evident in his voice. Kenma only gave a hum as he managed to finally defeat the boss which made him look to his bestfriend.

"You know that's Bokuto's soulmate right?"

Kuroo let out a scoff, a scornful expression making it's way on his face, "Was, Kenma. Bokuto treated her like shit." Kenma only raised a brow in response and decided to leave the conversation at that. Getting Kuroo worked up was not in one of his to-do-lists anyway.

"Shoyo, slap me right now."

Hinata gave you an incredelous look, "Why would I do that?!" He spluttered while Kageyama agreed alongside him.

"Because I see someone who looks eerily simliar to Bokuto Koutaro running to us."

So overall. The beginning was a tiny bit cringe, but not as bad as the trailer made it out to be.

I really liked Fei. She grows on ya. And I liked Lady dragon. I liked the renlings

I will say it is a better special in terms of Lore and plot than the NY special. It was lacking in the love square interactions that I wanted. But they were still cute when they had them. I do think there are a few plot holes, like Eagle being an action figure. WHEN DID THIS SPECIAL TAKE PLACE. (Edit, found out it was an animation error, NVM)

Also, now the elephant in the room? Was the special racist?

The answer is, no.

It wasn't racist, so we can all calm down about it?

OK, so, @heniareth​ asked to hear more about my first Warden for DAO and it took me a bit to put all this together, but here we are :) Thank you so much for asking and giving me a chance to ramble about him :D The post is long, hence the cut and please be warned about the thorough lack of structure and order haha I am bad at ordering my thoughts properly. I hope it is still alright to read :)

I have exactly two screenshots of my warden Theron Mahariel and those are it (apparently my obsession with taking a f*ck ton of screen shots of like everything only truly developed with DAI) xD Second one is in the temple of sacred ashes and it was taken in an attempt to make a bad joke about how the battle was so grisly that everyone got blood splatter under their armor ha

Anyway xD Theron is Dalish and he spent his entire life safely with his clan until his best friend Tamlen and he stumbled across some ancient elven ruins in the forest and made a discovery followed by tragedy. Duncan was able to save Theron’s life, but not Tamlen and by the time they returned to the ruins to search for him, Tamlen’s body had disappeared. Not only that, the sickness that had befallen Theron was one that had only been delayed with Duncan’s help and had but one cure, the Joining. And so, to survive, Theron was forced to leave his clan, the only life he’d ever known, his home, his family, to follow Duncan to Ostagar where he would become a Gray Warden.

He’d been a hunter for his clan for a while before all that happened and therefor knew his way around a bow quite well, though he’d never fought anything more frightening than a bear in the wilds. His clan has tried its best to stay away from Shemlens and avoid confrontation, so Duncan was one of the first humans Theron had ever really gotten to talk to. He was suspicious at first, but his keeper trusted Duncan and seemed to hold the Gray Wardens in high regard, so he decided to heed her judgment. Leaving his clan behind, unsure if he would ever see them again since they’d already decided to move North as soon as possible in order to keep safe, was one of the hardest things he’d had to do up until that point in his life.

He was raised by Ashalle, an old friend of his father’s. Both of his parents died around the time of his birth, so he never got to meet either of them and he was never really told about the circumstances of their death. All he knew was that his father had been the former keeper of his clan and his mother a hunter form a different clan. His father had fallen in love with his mother and they’d had to meet in secret because the elders did not approve of their bond. It wasn’t until the day he was to leave his clan for good that Ashalle finally told him the truth about what happened.  Apparently, when his mother was pregnant with him, during one of those secret meetings of theirs, their parents were attacked by a group of humans and city elves. During the resulting fight his father was killed and his mother gravely wounded. She stayed alive just long enough to give birth to him, then passed away. Quite the story to stomach, especially when he was about to put his life into the hands of a human, stepping out into a world that had been nothing but hostile towards his people for as long has their memory lasts. A world he knew very little about, other than the stories the elders told of the dangers and cruelties lurking everywhere within. And through all of that, his failure to protect Tamlen weighed heavily on him, a burden he’d carry with him wherever he set foot.

He was mid twenties, when all of this happened and at that point, the elders and Ashalle had been urging him to find an elven lass to bond with and start his own family for a while. And he’d been doing his best to dodge them for just about as long. He’d never met a woman he’d been interested in and perhaps, if he was to be very honest with himself, his feelings towards Tamlen might have run a little deeper than he’d have liked to admit to anyone, let alone himself. The Dalish don’t frown upon same sex relationships per se, but since the elves are such a diminished race it is regarded as extremely important that anyone who can start a family and produce children to keep their blood alive do so as a duty to their people. Anyone who refuses to or, gods forbid, settles with a partner of a different race is all but branded a traitor to their kind and shunned by their clan, sent into exile to fend for themselves. So in a way, by leaving when he did, he dodged a bullet or a very tough decision he was eventually going to have to make for himself that had been headed his way for a while now. Though one wonders if the fate he found can be considered any better.

He loved his clan and the life he led with them dearly. To him, there was nothing better than that simple life of wandering from place to place and the inherent freedom of it, the deep green of the forests around them, the moonlight glint of the hallas’ coats, the aravels’ colorful sails, the stories of his ancestors told around campfires as the young and old listen with equal wonder, the thrill of the hunt as thin soles tread soundlessly over soft, moss-covered forest floors, Andruil’s invisible hand guiding him onward, and the rush of satisfaction at having been successful. At having been able to provide for his clan, keeping them fed and healthy and safe from danger of any kind. That was where he felt most at home. It was not an easily life, but one worth living.

He can’t read. Never learned, because it never seemed important. All of the lore about his people is kept as oral history not written down.

He really wanted to be able to take Zevran to meet his clan, once all of the horrors of the Blight were over. He knew they wouldn’t be able to stay if they wanted to be together, but he at least wanted to visit and show Zevran how he grew up and who the people were that meant so much to him. Finding a place among the rebuilding Wardens after that didn’t seem like such a bad thing, then. Sadly, none of that ever came to pass. He died defeating the Archdemon and ending the Blight. And instead of receiving a burial the way his people would have intended, in the green forest he’d loved so much with a seed planted over him, a tree growing to mark his grave for his people, his body now lies in a cold stone crypt together with his Warden brothers and sisters, who share the honor of having given their lives to end a Blight.

Part 2 of my really long oddly specific levihan now family fic no one asked for

Context for this: I'll be using Sophie's (aka drinkyourfuckingmilk) levihan children ocs, but made a few tweaks (here's more info on Samson and Leelu here)

Their personalities are still the same (well, I might tone down their crackhead-ness just a bit) the only difference is their birthdays, and instead of being 1 year apart, they're a few minutes apart, and Samson is the oldest twin by 5 minutes XD.

So...this is going to be REALLY long so be prepared for that.

Ok enjoy!

- Levi came up with the name Sam but Hange thought it sounded basic, so she came up with Samson.

- Levi also came up with Leighla, and then Hange started calling her Leelu as a nickname.

- Samson was a pretty loud baby as Leelu was pretty quiet, however she does get aggressive.

- Leighla once almost slapped Levi in the face when she was hungry.

- Samson makes weird noises whenever Levi is around, and he look at him confused, which made Samson giggle.

- Hange and Levi switch nights to watch over the twins.

- I can imagine Levi singing them to sleep and it actually works.

- Sometimes, Hange would watch from the door.

- Hange would ramble on and on about her experiments to the twins, despite Levi telling her they're not going to get it since they're babies and to at least wait until they can talk.

- When they take the twins outside, Samson would look around the environment they're in, meanwhile Leighla sleeps.

- Hange's parents came to visit to see the twins and offered to babysit them since Levi and Hange looked like they haven't slept, so they let Hange's parents babysit them as they catch up on some sleep.

- Kuchel and Kenny visited at one point to see the twins as well, and Kenny almost dropped Samson bc Samson wanted to be tossed.

- Levi was pissed but held back bc his mom, Hange and the twins are there, however, he didn't let Kenny carry him for awhile.

- The twins took a liking to Erwin, Mike, Nanaba, Moblit, Nifa, Farlan and Isabel.

- Samson and Leighla would sometimes pull on Isabel's pigtails.

- They also pulled Mike's hair and Leighla would lightly slap his face. Levi was amused by this.

- They were surprisingly calm when Erwin and Farlan held them. The twins would just stare at them and then lay on their shoulder.

- Nanaba played peek-a-boo with them and they seem to enjoy it.

- Moblit was a bit hesitant holding the twins, but they took a liking to him bc they started giggling.

- Samson took a huge liking to Nifa.

- Levi didn't feel comfortable with the twins around the 104th squad until they could stand (at least) bc he's afraid either they'll break the twins or the twins will break them.

- Mikasa asked about meeting the twins when she was helping out at the tea shop and went home with Levi to see them.

- Mikasa let out a soft smile as the twins started babbling to her and tried to touch her hair.

- She would try to get them to say her name but failed every time.

- Both Samson and Leighla are pretty active babies. Once they were able to crawl, they would crawl all over the house to the point where Hange would chase after them (she had fun chasing them around though and would praise at how active they are).

- Levi definitely baby proofed the house (and the tea shop)

- Once Hange was able to go back to work, Levi would take the twin to the tea shop to watch over them. They would be in the playpen in his office.

- Petra, Olou, Eld, Gunther, and Eren played with them a lot and gave them a lot of attention.

- As they were nearing their first birthday, the twins learned how to walk (or waddle) .

-Levi would watch them from afar in strict dad mode (aka how he usually is) but later eased up a bit.

- He gave the 104th kids a VERY stern warning to behave (specifically warned Jean, Eren and Connie), be gentle with the twins and made sure that their hands are clean.

- Samson loved the attention he was getting, meanwhile Leighla felt a bit overwhelmed until Armin carried her, she started to feel at ease.

- They occasionally enjoy Connie's silly peek-a-boo face.

- Sasha ate their baby snacks "on accident."

- Jean and Eren would bicker who the twins likes more, but turns out they like Armin, and Mikasa the most.

- Sometimes Ymir and Historia will join the 104th squad and play with the twins.

- Marco sometimes like to watch them crawl around and they'd chill on his lap sometimes.

- One time, Reiner, Bertholdt and Annie came into the tea shop and at first, they were confused on what's going on until they saw everyone was playing with Samson and Leighla.

- Samson and Leighla saw Bertholdt and started making grabby hands towards him.

- Bertholdt was a bit nervous, but held them anyways.

- When Bertholdt tried to give them back, they would NOT let go.

- Leighla did not like Annie. She got pretty aggressive when Annie tried to hold her at one point.

- Samson would poke Leighla repeatedly on her face to get her reaction until one time he accidentally poked her eye. She started to cry out of pain and then punched Samson in the face and he started crying.

- You can imagine how that went for Levi and Hange.

- Leighla and Samson were playing with the 104th squad and Leighla wanted Armin to carry her so her first word was Armin.

- Mikasa totally wasn't salty about that.

- The whole squad was freaking out and Armin felt honored.

- Leighla felt proud of herself.

- Levi was about to tell everyone to keep it down, but when he heard Leighla say her first word, he felt so proud of his little girl. He didn't show it, but when he took her to his office to feed her, he softly smiled at her and basically had a little father-daughter bonding time.

- Hange basically twirled her around screaming how she can now talk and smothered her with affections.

- The family was walking in the park, with Hange carrying Samson and Levi carrying Leighla. Samson spotted a butterfly and pointed at it saying bug.

- Hange started squealing "that's my boy!" and then gave a huge lecture on butterflies.

- Even though Samson has no idea what the heck she's saying, he seemed interested.

- Levi sighed, but gave Samson a soft smile and a pat on the head.

Toddlers- 4 years old

- They would make a mess in the living room bc they like to throw pillows at each other.

- Levi obviously scolded them and taught them how to pick up after themselves and where to put their toys away. Remind you they were toddlers.

- At least they learned where to put their toys and didn't scatter them onto the floor.

- They LOVE listening to Hange ramblings, especially Samson.

- She made bedtime stories more interesting, the twins looks forward to that.

- Levi would cuddle them close and listens to Hange telling them bedtime stories.

- Leighla really likes fairy tale stories, I would say her favorite would be Cinderella.

-Idk why, but I feel like Samson would like Alice in Wonderland, actually, they both like Alice in Wonderland.

- Hange would tell them the Grimms brothers version of the fairy tale classics, and although they were fascinated by it, in the long run.....that wasn't a good idea.

- Levi told Hange she shouldn't do that, but ofc, she didn't listen (spoiler, he gave her the "I told you so" look after an incident later in the future)

- Things started getting really busy at the tea shop, so grandma Kuchel would watch over them and they LOVE her, she's so sweet. She would tell them Levi's childhood stories.

- Isabel once babysat them and it was pretty chaotic. They made a blanket fort with her and they would cuddle up watching a movie together, it was so cute.

- Levi wasn't really happy that he's gonna have to clean that up but it was cute and the twins are in one piece so he let it slide.

- Hange took a picture.

- The twins liked riding on Mike's shoulders bc he's so tall.

- Nanaba would sometimes chase them around (idk I thought it'd be cute)

- One time, Hange brought her kids to her work and they wandered off.

- Luckily, Moblit found them in the lab staring at Hange's guinea pigs, Sawney and Bean.

- Moblit took them out for a bit so they can hold them.

- Hange came barreling into the lab out of breath and panicking to Moblit that she can't find the kids, only to find them playing with Sawney and Bean and Moblit.

- Hange ended up rambling about Sawney and Bean to the kids and went into too much detail.

- Nifa saw them playing with Sawney and Bean and decided to join them.

- When they go to the tea shop, Levi would lecture them on what rules to follow, things like not running around, disturbing the staff, steal pastries and don't exit the tea shop.

- Sometimes staff would make them iced fruit teas and give them a cookie to snack on.

- Connie would teach them how to do pranks. He had them one time sprinkle salt into Jean's tea and uhhh Jean spit it in Eren's face which resulted in a fight.

- Levi broke it up and was furious at Connie and the twins.

- He made Connie and the twins apologize and clean up the spill.

- He gave them a really strict lecture when they got home and uh, lets just say that was the first time they've seen Levi genuinely mad and it scared them a bit.

- Their punishment is to clean that they have to do house chores and help out with the tea cafe, they can't be with the 104th squad for a week.

- Hange bursted out laughing when she heard what they did, but stopped when she saw Levi wasn't happy.

- She could tell Levi had a stressful day, so she snuggled against him to comfort him.

- She saw the twins peaking from behind the entrance of the living room and called out to them to join them.

- They hesitantly went to into the living room and sat on the floor next to Hange.

- "What's wrong kiddos? Come here, don't be shy, it's just us."

- Samson and Leighla both squished each other on the left side of the couch and kinda hiding behind Hange.

- Hange picked up what's happening and brought the kids closer to them and gave them a pep talk.

- "Kids, I know you feel scared and guilty, but you know, even if you guys messed up, your dad and I still love you very much ok? And it's ok to make mistakes, it happens to the best of us, even you're perfectionist of a dad messes up sometimes, especially when we first got together but that's another story for when you kids are older. Anyways, the importance of making mistakes is that we make them so we learn from them and grow as people. And in the lab, we make mistakes or errors, but we don't give up, we learn from those errors and study past errors in order to find a way to thoroughly run an experiment and come to an accurate conclusion, there's this one experiment-"

"Hange, I think they get the point."

"Right, so in short, it's good you feel sorry for what you did, and it shows you genuinely care, but even though there will be times where we're going to have to be tough on you, we'll always love you ok?"

- Samson and Leighla apologized for their earlier actions and Levi apologized for yelling at them, and cue the sweet family bonding time on the couch.

I just saw your take one Lilo&Stitch's approach to child protection and I was wondering if you could give some advice on how to write realistic stuff in this matter? I've been meaning to write a foster care/adoption fic and I do know the system in France must be at least a little different - and I will get down the research hole once I have a bit more time - but do you have any advice on how to write the kids reactions, the way parents deal with everything, the bonding part... things like this, so I can avoid clichés.

You don't have to answer though, feel free to ignore all this akdjwja I just figured there's no harm in asking XD

Yeah, sure! (To anyone else reading this who has a fic, feel free to send me a message if you have questions!) I’m definitely not the most knowledgeable person, but I know quite a bit. And I’m sure things are a bit different in France (hopefully their court system is better - yikes!) but I think the human element would be pretty similar, so here we go. 

First off, know that everyone is foster care is having a rough time constantly. Foster kids, workers, parents, foster parents, foster siblings. And no one knows what’s going on long term. There’s always a lot of uncertainty. Will the kids go home soon? Are parental rights going to be terminated at the next court date? Who knows???

The birth parents, at best, are going through a really tough time in their life, made worse because their kids were taken away from them. Some care about their kids, but they’re extremely self-centered and have zero parents skills. Some are manipulative and see foster care as free babysitting, and as long as they get to see their kid for an hour or so a week, this arrangement is fantastic for them! At worst, they’re just horrible human beings who abuse children. In general, most parents are clueless and selfish and pretty manipulative. They say they’re good parents and have no clue why their kids were taken away, even though their kid has cigarette burn marks on their back, or had to eat out of the garbage to survive because the were left alone for hours at a time when they were four, or worse. They have no clue at all what their behavior does to their kids, and they refuse to listen to anyone who tries to explain it to them.

No matter what type of parents they were, their kids ALWAYS love them and want to go home. Every single one of them. No matter the age. No matter what their home life put them through. Some of them aren’t old enough to understand why they can’t go home. Some have been in foster care for years and hardly remember living at home but still want to go home.  

It makes for complicated foster relationships sometimes because the kid will be attached to both birth and foster parents and feel guilty or conflicted or disloyal, or they’ll try really hard not to be attached to the foster parents in the first place. (I can think of only one exception to this. Two sisters who had been put into another home and liked the foster family and decided that they were going to be adopted by this family and were very excited about it... except the foster family had no plans to adopt them. I never learned what happened there.) 

And this is before accounting for the mental health struggles that often accompany the trauma most of them have been through. Some kids come in with anxiety that makes it difficult to trust new people. Some kids’ behavior is so extreme that it’s difficult for foster parents to take care of them, and so the kid moves around constantly. (If their behavior is too bad, they can sometimes be put into either a group home or residential, either temporarily or permanently.)

Parents are also entitled to visits, usually either weekly or every other week, at least while the goal is reunification (which is always starts out as). Before the pandemic, these usually took place in the DCF (Department of Children and Families is what it’s called in my state) office or in a visitation center. Sometimes the court orders that the visits be supervised so they don’t start promising their kids that they’re coming to get them next week. Often the workers think that sitting down the hallway not listening counts as supervision. 🙄 

With the pandemic, kids have been meeting over Zoom. That’s being phased out pretty soon here. Kids are almost always triggered by these visits. I mean, they look forward to them usually. Some kids are mad at their parents and don’t want to talk to them, but almost always, they want to see their parents. And almost always whatever behavior problems they had before is extremely worse for the next 2-5 days. (Which is terrible if you get a visit every week.) Some parents bail on these visits regularly. Some consistently bail on only birthdays and Christmas. We’ve learned not to tell the kid that they have a visit coming up until we know it’s definitely happening, or sometimes only right before we’re planning on leaving to go, because the anticipation of a visit is triggering or because getting stood up by your own mother is traumatizing. Sometimes you can get the kid’s therapist to write a note asking for the visits to be less frequent for the kid’s sake, but often that just means every other week instead of every week.

For foster families welcoming kids into their home, it’s a little different. They’re often more stable, and their whole life isn’t shifting around them. They’re just getting one or two kids into the family. The home dynamic is going to be a little different. Nothing huge, compared to what the foster kids are going through. It often depends on the kid how fast you get attached. Sometimes you know kids are only going to be there for a month because their normal foster family had to deal with an emergency, but the plan is to take them back soon. Sometimes they’re adorable babies and you get super attached really, really fast. Sometimes they’re so unhappy and scared that they make your home life completely miserable. Sometimes you’ve seen so many kids come and go over the years, and they’ve all left eventually, and your heart becomes guarded to protect you from that pain. But you get attached eventually anyway. 

And sometimes your parents are given a newborn whose goal is reunification and it’s love at first sight even though you don’t know if you can keep him, and then he’s put up for adoption when he’s two and you adopt him SO HARD. And then you make future foster kids upset because you can’t adopt them too. :( And even though they get adopted by friends of yours, they still feel conflicted over it four years later. 

You would think that a kid raised completely in their adoptive home from birth would have no problems, and sometimes that’s the case. Sometimes they still get upset about the adoption when they’re older because the foundational belief they have about themselves is that their mother didn’t want them, even though it’s not true. 

(This is the real-life story of my brother. We are the only family he’s ever known, and he’s 13 now, but he still has issues over being adopted. The other boy is 16 and is doing much better with his new family now, though he still has some issues. We had him for a very long time, and we were all happy that we know his adoptive family well because we stayed it contact with him, which almost never happens when a foster kid leaves.)

Oh, I forgot one thing. Usually when kids first get to your house, they are perfect little angels for a while. Depending on the kid, it’s either a couple days or maybe even three months. It’s called the “honeymoon period.” Once their subconscious realizes that this is a safe place to work on their issues and they aren’t in physical danger, they start to process what they’ve been through. It comes out in a variety of ways. Behavioral issues, bedwetting, explosive anger, nightmares, etc.

A note about social workers: All the workers (at least in my state) constantly have too many cases. Like, double what they’re legally supposed to have. Most of them try hard to keep up. Some DO NOT CARE. Some are fantastic and put extra time in to go to the kid’s end-of-the-school-year recitals and build a relationship with them. They’re in charge of organizing visits and making sure the kids have everything set up and are generally important in the kid’s life. They’re required to visit once a month and make sure foster parents have all the right paperwork and arrange dentist visits and bring them to all their therapy appointments. (FYI, You get a piece of paper that says you’re the legal guardian. You have to show it to schools and doctors when you make arrangements for the kids. My mom also keeps a copy in her purse, just in case a kid starts screaming “HELP! SHE’S NOT MY MOM” in the middle of the store or something. It’s never happened, but you know, just in case.)

Also, you would think that they’re the constant in the kid’s life, but if the birth parents move, the case gets transferred to another office in the state, and so the social workers switch. I sincerely hope that’s not how things are done in France because it’s garbage for a lot of reasons.
