Everytime I look at Remmick pics nowadays I’m like. Damn you’re just a horrific shell of the man you once were.

Literally nothing remains of who this body used to belong to. You are just a spirit of such profound emptiness that your ceaseless hunger drives you across the earth like a virus or a parasite.

Like usual a character doesn’t so clearly show me they are a monster who took over a person, and I don’t nearly care enough about the horror of that loss. But the cultural and artistic roots in that identity loss in Sinners makes it truly profound and devastating.

I’ve looked at demon characters, vampires, possessed characters, traumatised characters, but they still had an overall feeling of identity cohesion. To some degree, aspects of their traits were egosyntonic, even if they had traits that caused incongruence. Even if they were complicated characters with multiple negative, even sadistic, even antisocial traits.

Through Coogler’s unique lens I don’t even see ‘the real Remmick’ anymore. I see the thing that is puppeting his body now. Adding the sacredness of cultural heritage to the identity of a body has transformed that feeling like no other piece of media ever has. It always felt like a pithy trope that described a figurative loss of original self through trauma or transformation.

In Sinners, the lore and the weight of its storytelling makes me see a Thing, not a man. That to be killed and released from that body was the only merciful and happy ending for a man who was over a thousand years old and had a thousand years of blood in his hands. The weight of the grief of a monster had never really felt truly poignant to me before, in my adult life.

I’m really so grateful for the director, film production team and crew, and actor for Remmick to have show a true monster in human skin for me for the first time, where I so easily dis-identify the human body from a human soul.

sylus most precious gem is us

we all know our beloved dragon has a fixation on gems, but with the conclusion of touring in love, it’s brought up once more

as we sit in his apartment looking over at the gems, we asked sylus “which gem is your favorite” and of course loverboy over here just looks at us with those love drunk eyes

sylus has never been shy with expressing his love, always ready to confirm he loves us dearly and keeps our memories close to his heart. and it’s something that fills me with great joy

sylus knew the question was in our head and asked if we wanted to hear his answer. but we told him we didn’t need to hear it because just one look at us and we immediately knew, we are his most precious gem
