i think that if you find yourself penning a post arguing that women are intrinsically too sentimental/hysterical/emotional/intellectually shallow/sexually frigid/otherwise deficient to have valid opinions about a fictional male character (excepting, of course, those women who agree entirely with your opinions), you should perhaps stop and ask yourself 'am i committing a misogyny in the name of winning a stupid ship war on tumblr dot com?'

- take a shot every time he expresses his love for nantucket or whaling trivia

- i know everyone said it was queer and usually i've come to expect that as hyperbole but this time they weren't joking

- CHILDE HAROLD REFERENCE?!?!?!?!?! BYRON QUOTED?!?!?!?! not surprised bc it is the romantic genre which byron & chp helped inspire & he was the best selling writer in early 19c usa & is noted for his oceanic refs & he & esp childe harolds pilgrimage esp are both noted on wikipedia's "nautical fiction" page but like. i had no idea they were immortalized in moby dick

I hate when people say that the only thing to get out of literature is romance and sex. Like people who think that haven’t experienced literature enough. There are so many important things that literature can do, and boiling it all down to romance and sex just diminishes the other work that it does.

you are presented with 2 copies of the same book

the first copy is in tip top condition. a little yellowed, hinting at age, but other than that, there is barely even a crease in the spine. there are no marks, and the owner says that they always keep their books in a book bag when carrying them around.

the second book is battered. absolutely wrecked. it is yellowed, the spine has multiple creases, and there are scriblings in pencil all over every single page, the thoughts of the owner entwined magically with the book forever. there are a few highlighted bits and bookmarked pages.

would love if we brought back romances in books that aren’t completely built on sex/the whole relationship doesnt hinge on sexual attraction and wanting to fuck.

Theres nothing wrong with a good smutty romance, love what you love. But good god i miss non sexual intimacy in books. Not every physical action between a couple has to be sexual. I get bored having to read this couple being extremely horny for eachother 24/7 like theres beauty to your partner outside their sexual appeal and power!! Let a character think positively about their partner without it being/becoming sexual

This is why i used to love ya romances. Since their SUPPOSED TO BE Ya (12-18) they SHOULDNT be too sexual (Maybe a fade to black if we r getting real spicy.) The characters relationship has to be built purely on respect and affection for eachother. You get to watch them become friends or falling for eachother, realizing that wow they love eachother

and its not just because of sex

I had a couple of things lying around that were too quiet to be Monkeys tunes – well, that’s what I thought, anyway. So I said, what about these and Richard [Ayoade] liked them. But then we were putting this together and I really thought it might fit in with ‘Thunderstorms’ and ‘Suck It And See’. So we thought why not just do another version [recorded with the full band] because the one on Submarine is just me and James, he played drums and there’s some strings and stuff on it. I think doing that Submarine album did lead me into some of the songs on this album too.”
