🔶🔸DEVIL MAY CRY
Tumblr media
Cominciamo con un primo annuncio MOTIVAZIONALE (*wink wink*). Dante, Vergil e Lady di nuovo in versione animata, 8 episodi, più stagioni in programma.
La sceneggiatura è stata concepita da Adi Shankar (Castlevania) and Alex Larsen (Yasuke), mentre il tutto porta la firma di STUDIO MIR (The Legend of Korra, Dota: Dragon's Blood, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf).
youtube
🔶🔸SONIC PRIME
Tumblr media
Go next.
youtube
🔶🔸CAPTAIN LASERHAWK: A BLOOD DRAGON REMIX
Tumblr media
youtube
🔶🔸SCOTT PILGRIM
Tumblr media
Non ce la fate ad aspettare il 17 novembre per vedere la versione animata, in stile SCIENCE SARU (The Tatami Time Machine Blues, The Heike Story), del famoso fumetto di Bryan Lee O'Malley? Eccovi una clip in anteprima allora.
youtube
🔶🔸MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE: REVOLUTION
Tumblr media
youtube
🔶🔸TOMB RAIDER: THE LEGEND OF LARA CROFT
Tumblr media
In programma per il 2024, è prodotta in casa Powerhouse Animation (Castlevania, Masters of the Universe: Revelation).
youtube
Per chi si fosse perso la premiere in anteprima e volesse comunque un assaggino di Castlevania: Nocturne, nel mentre aspetta di poter maratonare la prima stagione (vi ricordo che esce domani by the way), ecco i primi sette minuti della prima puntata in omaggio.
youtube

So... I've watched the trailer for Blue Eye Samurai, and I do plan on watching the show after seeing it, and it got me thinking on what a potential movie for Daken could be.
One has to admit, Daken has a lot of untapped potential. He has a lot of interesting stories to tell. Hell, when the trailers for Logan first dropped years ago, I was kinda hoping what would turn out to be X-24 could have been Daken.
Whether it be Daken's quest for revenge against his father Wolverine, or him forming a bond with X-23, or even some other options, Daken has stories you can tell.
There's a chance I'll add more to this in later, just gotta get some more thoughts together.

Now I’m gonna talk about it; because I can.
In Into the mind (and a few related stories) the sides have special objects that relate to their roles and help support them, The Shield, Cloak, Breastplate and Sword.
Hilariously, the scroll work I used is basically fancy linked ‘s’ which made me laugh when I realized it. Virgil and Roman have less because I wanted to make the designs on Virgil’s more jagged, and Roman’s didn’t really have room. I maybe should have made the sheath gold too, but I wanted to call in the ‘samurai sword’ he uses in the videos, even though it didn’t match the way his sword is described. (it’s not described as sheathed either, but practice safe swords.)
The star on Thomas’s shirt is broken apart because he’s a bit fragmented being where he’s not supposed to be. Originally I had each piece of the star a different color, but I didn’t feel great deciding who went in the middle, so steven universe reference go.  In the original configuration, the sides are looking in all directions, surrounding Thomas, while Thomas is looking directly at the viewer. (Technically, no one is looking behind them, and it would have made sense for Patton to be, but that would have hidden his face.) Generally speaking in the story, Virgil was watching the back and Patton led, but for better display of the artifacts, I switched them. (Besides, Anxiety watching where you’re going while the heart supports from behind works)
While all of their eyes are brown, I added highlights of their colors, just like the hair. Logan has the least highlights, Virgil has the most.
Logan’s wearing jeans; and the color is closer to indigo than true dark blue. He’s wearing slip on sneakers because it was described in a fic once and I liked it. A little bit nerdy, a little bit cool. Just like him.  Gonna level with you, not really satisfied with the shield. Overall design good- execution poor.
Patton’s wearing socks with sandals because I thought it was funny, and then I just committed. His socks have paw prints on them. His bracelet has a cyan bead, an indigo bead, a purple bead, a red bead, a green bead and a yellow bead. The friendship band is orange because of Joan’s beanie. There’s a heart on his belt buckle, it would probably match his logo if it was bigger.
Virgil would totally zip up his hoodie over the breastplate if people call too much attention to him. His hair is darker than everyone else’s.
I really like what I did with Roman’s coat, with the tails and all and the stripe of gold down his leg

Some Juicy Outtakes
Some extra scenes based on my fanfic Blueberry Body, which can be found here!
Warning: Gore? Body Horror? Blood? I don’t know which one applies the best.
Logan jolted awake at the sound of his phone’s alarm. He always set an alarm on his phone for this exact reason, in case he fell asleep while working and needed a wake-up call. He groaned and let out a yawn before fumbling his hands across his desk, trying to find his glasses amongst the mess of papers.
Wait... Hold on... While, yes, Logan’s vision was blurry, he could still see colour. And, for some reason, his hands appeared to be not his regular skin colour, but bright blue.
He fumbled for his glasses faster, unease bubbling inside him. Finally, he felt them in his palm and pushed them onto his face.
His arms and hands were a rich blue colour.
Logan’s mind swam with questions, but he could hardly think straight with the buzzing of his phone’s alarm. He leant forward to grab it from where it was sat on the window sill, only to find he couldn’t quite reach it, something obstructing him from leaning all the way forward.
‘C-c’mon...’
Finally, he grabbed the phone, and he turned off the alarm. He leant back in his chair, letting out a deep breath. He rubbed his eyes and pinched himself, hoping it was a dream and his arms weren’t actually such a bright pigment. However, when he pulled his hands away from his face, they were still blue. But that wasn’t all.
Logan’s eyes drifted down in order to see what had been stopping him from leaning forward and grabbing his phone. However, it seemed there was no object in the way. The thing that had actually been obstructing him had been his own stomach, which was bulging outward.
Logan stumbled to his feet in shock, pushing himself out his chair and staring down at his stretched shirt. He hesitated before giving his belly sharp poke, causing it to make a faint sloshing sound.
He ran to the full-length mirror in the corner of his bedroom to take in his full appearance. On top of the swollen stomach, his entire body – not just his arms – was the bright blue colour.
Wait... blue skin... stomach filled with a liquid of sorts... Oh dear god.
As Logan realised what had happened, he couldn’t help but scream.

Logan stared around the room Roman had brought him to. It was plain: white walls, grey floor. It was large and empty.
‘So, why exactly have you brought me here, Roman?’
‘Isn’t it obvious? I’m going to do something about that belly of yours.’ Roman gave Logan’s stomach a small poke, causing it to let out a sloshing sound. ‘We’ve gotta get that blueberry juice out.’
‘And how are you going to do that?’ Logan asked.
‘Simple, just do what they do to Violet in the book: juice you!’
‘Juice me?’
‘Yeah, y’know, squeeze all the juice out.’
‘And how exactly are you planning on squeezing the juice out?’ Logan inquired, slightly nervous given how painful it sounded. ‘I’m guessing you’ll copy the process in the book?’
‘Well, I would, but then I’d have to spend a lot of time and concentration creating an elaborate juicing machine and that would take way too much time,’ Roman explained. ‘I figured that maybe it might work to just...’
‘Just what?’
Roman summoned a baseball bat. ‘It’ll hurt, but it should work.’
Logan raised an eyebrow, looking from Roman to the bat. ‘Are you serious? Do you actually want to hit me in the stomach with a bat?’
‘Yes...?’
Logan sighed, rubbing his temple. ‘Fine. Fuck it.’
‘Okay, hold still...’ Roman raised the bat and slammed it into the logical side’s stomach. Immediately, Logan choked on juice which he vomited up, spitting it up onto the ground.
‘There! I knew it would.. work...’
Roman trailed off as gurgling sound came from Logan’s stomach. Then, suddenly, it started swelling, making up for the lost juice and then some, so he looked he was 9 months pregnant.
‘What did you do?!’ Logan yelled, pressing into his belly.
‘I-I don’t know! Let me try again...’
‘No, wait- !’
Roman whacked Logan again with the bat. Once again, Logan threw up a bunch of juice, and once again, his stomach swelled, this time so he looked like he’d swallowed a beach ball. His knees looked close to buckling under the extra weight. Roman swore under his breath before raising the bat again.
‘One more time! I’ll get it right this time!’
‘Roman, don’t!’
‘But I have to fix this!’
‘No you don’t, you’re just making it worse!’
‘But I have to make this right! I have to! I fucked up so badly, I can’t just leave you like this and be faced with the guilt of what I did every time I look at you.’
Logan sighed. ‘I understand you want to help, but this is not the way to do it. Look at me!’
Roman bit his lip, trying to think of another solution. Suddenly he thought of an idea. But it was really really really risky... But what other options were there? He put his hands behind his back, summoning the object he needed. ‘Logan... I need you to stay perfectly still okay?’
‘Um... oka- ‘
Roman ran forward and slashed his samurai sword across Logan’s stomach. Logan let out a scream of pain, collapsing to his knees as juice poured from the large gash. Tears streamed down his face as his stomach emptied, first of juice... then blood started pouring out.
‘Shit... SHIT!’ Roman started panicking. ‘What do I do, what do I do?!’
‘What the fuck’s going on in here?!’
Roman looked up to see Deceit stood in the doorway. The prince had never been more relieved to see the snake. He ran up to Deceit, grabbing him by the collar.
‘Oh, thank god! Deceit, you have to help! Logan’s gonna die if we don’t do something!’
‘Okay, I have no idea what’s going on, I can’t really fix this if I don’t know,’ Deceit replied.
‘Logan’s stomach was cut open, no time to explain the rest, we just need to patch up the slash before he dies of blood loss!’
Deceit sighed, obviously annoyed that he was not getting the full story. However, he grabbed Roman’s hand and ran up to Logan, placing a hand on the blue side’s shoulder. They all disappeared and ended up in an operating theatre.
Deceit lifted Logan and led him on the surgical table. He then clicked his fingers, and his outfit changed into a sterile surgeon’s one.
‘You’re lucky I was the one to find you two. Due to Insanity’s... well, psychotic tendencies, I had to train myself to do various operations so that none of us Dark Sides died,’ Deceit muttered as he injected Logan with anaesthetic so he’d fall asleep.
It was only then it struck Roman how odd it was that Deceit, a Dark Side, was helping Logan, a Light Side. He opened his mouth to ask about it, but Deceit seemed to read his mind.
‘I need logic in order for my lies to be grounded in reality. If he dies, my lies will no longer be convincing.’
‘So, Logan’s gonna be okay?’ Roman asked. ‘Patton’ll kill me if something happens to him...’
‘He’ll be fine,’ Deceit responded. ‘I’ve performed an operation similar to this one before. Insanity and Lethargy got into an argument a few recently, and it did not end well for Leth.’
‘Okay...’ Roman nodded, biting his lip. ‘What exactly is the procedure?’
‘I’ll sew the gash in his stomach to prevent loss of anymore blood. I’ll then he’ll be given a blood transfusion to replace the lost blood. He’s lucky we all have the same blood type.’
‘How long should this take?’
‘Quite a long time, and he’ll need time for recovery,’ Deceit explained. ‘However, Logan and I actually worked together in creating this room in the mindscape. He informed me that we could make it so time moves faster in this room. It took some effort, but we did it. A day in here is a minute out there.’
‘Wow...’ Roman muttered. ‘Wish I knew how to do that.’
‘Shut up, Princey, I need to concentrate.’
‘Okay.’
*     *     *     *     *
Patton smiled as he continued to sketch in the notepad on his lap. He and Logan had decided, after the havoc of the day, to get in their onesies and relax in the common room, eating snacks and watching a movie. Logan had ended up falling asleep, head resting on Patton’s shoulder. It was an adorable sight, Roman and Virgil could confirm when they walked past the doorway and saw them.
Patton was currently doodling ideas for Halloween costumes, as it was right around the corner. He’d decided to take Logan’s new skin pigment in his stride, coming up with the plan for them to go as Ruby and Sapphire from Steven Universe.
His drawings were coming along well, he couldn’t wait to show them to Logan! Oh, but they weren’t coloured yet.  Looks like he had to go get his crayons.
As he started to go skip off to his room, he couldn’t help but pause as he passed the kitchen, from where he heard Virgil and Roman’s voices.
‘YOU WHAT?!’
‘Sssh! Be quiet, don’t let Patton hear us!’
‘I will not be quiet! I will not be calm! You almost killed Logan!’
‘SSSSSSSSSH! He’s fine, you saw him! Deceit patched him right up.’
‘Wha- D- Decei- DECEIT?! You got Deceit’s help?!’
‘Well, yeah, he was the only one apart from Logan who was qualified to perform the surgery, and Logan couldn’t really perform it on himself, could he? Look, Logan’s perfectly fine. Let’s just leave it, okay?’
‘Fine... But it doesn’t change the fact you slashed open Logan’s stomach.’
Patton froze. The words sunk in, and he turned to head back into the common room. He shuffled up to Logan’s sleeping form and retook his seat beside him. He carefully undid a couple of the buttons of the logical side’s onesie, revealing a large stitched scar across Logan’s stomach.
‘Oh... my little blueberry...’
Patton wrapped his arms around the teacher, tears welling in his eyes.
‘I promise, I’ll never ever let you get hurt again.’

Insert Cool Demigod AU Title—Chapter 3
Summary: People get claimed. People are gay. There are sword fights that are more nerdy than possible to describe in a summary. The action finally gets started, kind of. It’s kind of montage-y. I just really wanted to get this chapter out as soon as possible.
Word count: 1641 words I think?
Pairings: Platonic LAMP, romantic Logicality and Prinxiety (eventually)
Warnings: Sword fights, intense nerdiness, pining, the mortal disease of Gay, the Princess Bride
A/N: OKAY NOW WE CAN GET THINGS STARTED! ...in the next chapter. I’m tired and this chapter feels complete-ish. Also I totally haven’t memorized the entirety of the Princess Bride, noooooo! ANYWAYS, this is based off of @becca-becky ‘s Demigod AU, go give ‘em some love! I have nothing else to say, enjoy!
“The Hulk is THE strongest person! How could he not take care of some bees?!”
“Is his skin vulnerable to bee stings?”
“I DON’T KNOW?!”
“Now now, tiny little hedgehogs, no need to fight.”
“We are not fighting, we are debating. There is a difference.”
“...tiny little hedgehogs?”
“Make like a ball of spikes and roll with it, Virgil.”
Said boy rolled his eyes at Roman’s words. Two weeks had passed by fast, and Virgil found himself denying attachments to his three companions more than expected. They had grown on him. Like toe fungus or strangling creeper vines.
“Bees are faster than the Hulk,” continued Logan, “and numerous as well. They can swarm around him and make him tired."
"But even if bee stings can penetrate his skin, an annoyed Hulk is an angry Hulk is a strong Hulk is a smash Hulk!" Roman slammed his fists on the table in emphasis. "SMASH!"
"But the bees can scatter before the Hulk smashes them! Fast!" Logan seemed very passionate about the bees.
"What do you think, Virgil?" Patton asked. He started a little at having to give an opinion, but after a moment of thought, spoke:
"Well, the bees might be fast, but they aren't as strong as the Hulk. Also, don't they die after stinging? He can just clap his hands and boom, dead bees."
Roman pumped his fists in the air, shouting a victorious cheer as Logan delivered a convincing counterargument, scowling. Who-even-knows children, honestly.
That insult wasn’t really effective when they hadn't been claimed yet.
"CAN YOU QUIET IT DOWN OVER THERE?!" A random camper yelled. "WE'RE TRYING TO ROAST MARSHMALLOWS!"
"Jeez, that guy is not a--"
"NO--"
"Happy camper!" Patton grinned as Logan groaned into his hands.
"Why do I even try? That wasn’t even a pun!”
"SSSHHHHH!"
The other campers resumed their marshmallow roasting. There was singing of campfire songs about grandmothers putting on armor. All was peaceful. Everything was good. It was all well.
Roman leaned over and stage-whispered: “Hulk has bee-proof skin.”
That started the argument all over again.
They kept at it for quite a while, the darkness comforting, the magical fire roaring, debating Avengers vs. insects. Bees were insects, were they? Virgil didn’t know these things. He wasn’t Logan.
A glowing brown sheath of wheat materialized over Patton's head. He didn't notice. No one did.
Except Virgil.
“Hey, Patton, maybe look up?” He said, trying to silently send the message of  ‘LOOK AT THE MAGICAL WHEAT ABOVE YOUR HEAD!’.
He failed.
"Did someone say puppy?!" Patton was frantically searching for a small dog. "WHERE WHERE WHERE?????"
"No, LOOK!" Patton finally got the hint and looked up. His eyes widened.
"WHAT." He swatted at it, trying to get it to disappear. People were finally beginning to notice (because a radiant brown sign above people’s heads isn’t the most subtle thing ever), and were whispering.
Virgil suddenly got a sinking feeling that Patton was not the only one to be claimed tonight, and his head slowly swiveled to look at Logan.
A blue owl was shining above Logan's head, and all he could do was stare.
"What..."
"AAAAA I'M GLOWING PINK?????"
Roman was now decked from head to toe in a pink glowing aura. There was a rose-colored dove above his head, but of course, Aphrodite was a freaking meanie and just had to change his clothes too.
Roman’s clothes had changed into an Ancient Greek dress (because he looked magnificent in any clothes, no matter the gender). His makeup was done, and though Virgil knew nothing about makeup (like he knew nothing about worrying, honestly, stop lying already!) he knew Roman looked...
"Stunning..." he muttered. He might have been blushing, but no one could prove it. He had white foundation and a pale complexion working for him. Roman was, indeed, utterly and completely beautiful.
Virgil was freaking gay.
Well.
Time to die now.
Everyone else got to their knees, including Chiron, and Virgil was quick to follow. Logan, Patton, and Roman were the only ones left standing.
"All hail, Patton Morobus, son of Demeter, goddess of harvest. Logan Teach, son of Athena, goddess of Wisdom. Roman Royaume, son of Aphrodite, goddess of love."
Of course, the claiming didn’t dissuade them from returning to the truly important topic at hand.
“Hulk!”
“Bees!”
“Oh my gods.”
———
Many weeks after Virgil’s he-stopped-counting-long-ago gay awakening (Team Hulk totally won the debate, by the way, but don’t tell Logan), the four were training. Logan had acquired a sword, Patton had been granted a magical trowel that turned into a spear, and Roman… well, Roman was an indecisive little—
“WATCH OUT!”
A flying spear shot last Virgil, narrowly missing his hoodie. Which he wore. In the middle of summer. Yes.
“SORRY!” Patton ran past him to retrieve his spear, which had missed the target by miles.
“It’s fine, I didn’t need my head anyways,” Virgil replied weakly.
“Why are you even throwing that so close to people?” Logan asked, adjusting his glasses. “You could hit someone.”
"I'm hunting, Lo!" Patton grinned in that special special way that meant a pun was coming.
"Don't you dare--"
"I'm on the trowel!"
Logan groaned. "You ruined it. You ruined the moment. You ruined me. Why."
"Love you too Lo!"
Logan choked on air, sputtering. Virgil grinned evilly, grabbing his dark angsty skull staff from the ground.
“You know you walked right into that.”
“No? I didn’t?” Logan sighed. “Hey, where the heck is Roman?”
“Who knows.”
Speak of the beauty child, Roman walked around the corner, tiara on his head, in his hand was a—
“Is that a samurai sword?!”
Roman hefted it up. “Why yes it is, Anthony Lockbrood.”
“...how did you manage to get worse with your nicknames?!”
“Who knows? Not I, not I.”
“...you’re the one creating them,” Virgil pointed out.
Logan let out an exasperated noise. “Oh my gosh can you just train?!”
“Sorry Lo.”
“Sorry Lo.”
They headed to a different part of the arena, leaving Patton and Logan to flirt in peace.
“So,” said Roman, handing Virgil a sword. “Shall we begin?”
“We shall.”
Patton was swinging around the spear, clearly with no idea what he was doing. He looked adorable doing it, of course, anything he did was adorable, but he was obviously clueless. Logan walked over to help him in order to attempt to silence his feelings. He failed.
“Do you wish for assistance?” Patton started, dropping his spear. He retrieved it, blushing.
“If you could help, that’d be swell!”
Logan quirked a brow at his word choice. “Swell?”
“It just came to mind!”
“Okay then.” Logan walked over to Patton, and grabbed hold of his hands. Patton flushed harder, and it was all Logan could do to keep from doing the same.
“What are you doing, Lo?” Patton asked, Logan’s hands covering his on the spear.
“I—you need to adjust your grip slightly.” Logan moved Patton’s hands on the spear so they were in the right position. He kept his hands there far longer than was strictly necessary, but neither said a word. They were too busy yelling in their thoughts. Two awkward gays.
Their eyes met.
Logan suddenly realized what he was doing, and pulled away, putting precious, regrettably precious distance between them.
“I—um—you—your strikes should be better now,” he stammered, trying to play it cool. He failed. Miserably.
“Okay.” Patton was blushing still, his adorable turquoise eyes shining. “Thank you, Logan.”
“I—you’re welcome.”
Logan was gay.
Really gay.
After a few more minutes of torture, the pair walked back to where they’d left Roman and Virgil, to find them reenacting the fight beside the Cliffs of Insanity. Roman had his sword up against Virgil’s practice one, and the latter was pressed up against the fence.
“You cannot tell because of my mask, but I am smiling,” said Virgil.
“And why is that?”
“I am not left-handed either!”
Virgil all but tossed the sword into his other hand, and they began (or perhaps continued) their duel. Their swords clashed as they fought.
Logan could only stare. Patton clapped and cheered for both of them. Neither of the duelers paid attention, entirely focused on their fight.
They kept quoting the Princess Bride at each other. They were both intense and complete nerds. This was saying something, coming from Logan. Finally, after many minutes of fighting, Roman was on his knees, and Virgil circled him like a herbivore circling a particularly nice patch of grass.
That simile did not work particularly well.
Eh.
“I would sooner kill Da Vinci than destroy an artist such as yourself,” Virgil was saying. Dang, he really knew this movie. Or book. It was both a movie and a book. Not enough people knew that. “However, since I can’t have you following me, blah blah get knocked out scrub.” He smacked Roman across the head with the butt of his sword.
Instead of falling gracefully, Roman yelled and clutched his head, rolling on the grass.
“Dude! That actually hurt!” He rubbed his head. “Why?!”
“You were the one who chose Inigo Montoya,” Virgil said.
“I only said the first line as Inigo! You were the one who didn’t let me switch!”
“Uhh, you should have chosen Westley, then.”
“But Inigo speaks first!”
“What is happening?” Logan said. They finally seemed to notice that Logan and Patton existed. Roman jumped to his feet as Virgil adjusted his hoodie (which was tied around his head like a mask).
“We were simply practicing our sword-fighting skills, that is all!” Roman declared.
“YOU WERE AWESOME!” Patton exclaimed. “I liked it when you went shoom, shoom, and when YOU were like, CHING CHING, and it was really great!”
No one knew how to respond to that.
Luckily, they didn’t have to, because in a case of extremely convenient timing, the dinner shell sounded.

Saving the Day before Bedtime in Style: The Powerpuff Girls Then vs. Now
Tumblr media
THE CITY OF TOWNSVILLE!
I remember growing up a little with The Powerpuff Girls, namely the pre-2002 episodes on CN and a promo for the show on my VHS of Animaniacs: Wakko’s Wish. That show is a part of my childhood. My sister had an Easy-Bake Powerpuff Girls “Cookie Makin’ Bake Set” and a Burger King 2002 figure of Bubbles. The length of the series’ run is now 20 years old, though the franchise as a whole is over 25 years old, if you count A Sticky Situation.
In the past, I watched little of PPG because I neither understood nor appreciated action at a very young age; the same went for Samurai Jack & Star Wars: Clone Wars (2003), though I did watch Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008), which included a former PPG writer, Brian Larsen. Now, “Cartoon Cartoons” like @crackmccraigen‘s Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, Dexter’s Laboratory, Grim & Evil, Courage the Cowardly Dog, The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, Ed Edd ‘n Eddy, Chowder... I grew up on those. I remember little about 2 Stupid Dogs (now officially available on MOD Disc DVD) and Captain Planet. I didn’t see the PPG marathon in 2009 with the final McCracken-produced episode so far, The Powerpuff Girls Rule!!! (my sister watched it, though). I began to return to PPG as I saw excerpts from the show on Netflix in late 2015, prior to the reboot. Tara Strong’s tweet of dismay, I think, was how I heard of the new PPG episodes.
The first time “Painbow” was encored (that is 2nd airing), during like 6 in the morning, I began to love Ms. Keane, their teacher, who’s voiced by Jennifer Hale (I knew her best for voicing Gladys, Billy’s Mom, in Grim & Evil / The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, whose voice is nearly identical to Keane’s). What I love about Keane is that she’s sweet, somewhat perky but usually mellow, and kind, in addition to her voice, big blue eyes, and hair style, that I find to be attractive, but ultimately she is very nurturing to her students, like a mommy. Ms. Keane is why, in 2016, I became really into The Powerpuff Girls... and, including regard for the former CN Studios team, hyped for the return of Genndy Tartakovsky’s Samurai Jack (season 5, which featured Craig Kellman and other familiar creatives). However, though The Powerpuff Girls is my personal favorite of Craig McCracken and I grew up somewhat more on Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, I do feel that Wander Over Yonder is Craig’s greatest achievement as it excels at not only humor--both slapstick and... well... “modern”--but also some very important life lessons and ultimately the heart.
Now, many PPG fans were upset with the new episodes for many reasons that were, in my opinion, nostalgically incorrect. Personally, like many fans, I mostly prefer the former art styles of the series (specifically the 2002 movie and episodes, as well as the following designs by art director Paul Stec and character designers Carey Yost & Stef Choi) but I also highly admire @cheyennecurtisart for adding more defining details to our favorite crime-fighting and now ex-kindergarten students (and also for designing my other favorite woman, Star Butterfly, whose title show @crackmccraigen, creator of The Powerpuff Girls, wanted to produce for CN). The main reason for the hate is apparently that the new actresses replaced the former ones for the title characters. They are fairly good voices, but I still prefer the former, namely Tara Strong as Bubbles (No offense, Kristin Li, but, to me, it feels impossible to turn down Tara’s acting). Natalie Palamides as Buttercup is probably the closest-resembling to the original voices, but she still stands out differently; likewise Ms. Keane’s voice, though akin to the voice direction of Jennifer Hale by Craig McCracken and later Colette Sunderman, also has an accent that stands out, while Tom Kane is generally true to the nature of Utonium’s voice. Of course, once the casting and/or voice direction changes, maybe Cavadini, Daily and Strong will return. Also, E.G. Daily said in an interview that Cavadini, Daily & Strong originally did record for, I believe, Escape from Monster Island, until someone else replaced them; if bonus features exist on future season releases of the Jennings-Boyle PPG episodes, then an original dialogue recording track for the episode should totally be on it.
WHAT LOOKS DIFFERENT ABOUT THE POWERPUFF GIRLS?
Another reason for dislike from PPG fans is all about the art direction. Although @eusong Lee worked with Craig Kellman on Storybots and current art director Roman Laney designed and painted backgrounds for Craig McCracken’s Wander Over Yonder, their art direction resembles that of a more streamline, smooth, round, futuristic, not-so-cartoony look contrasting with the simplistic, storybook-like art direction of Craig Kellman, the cartoony but simple art direction of @donshank, and the defining and Hanna-Babera like art direction of Mike Moon, Paul Stec and Sue Mondt. The buildings in the Jennings-Boyle episodes are more straight, detailed and lineless, whereas the former designs were more extreme and exaggerated with building shapes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Comparing the designs above of Andy Bialk & Stef Choi (whose designs were of many shapes and sizes; former monsters had sometimes simple but also very wild designs)...
Tumblr media
...with those of Alan Stewart & Steve Lambe and Dean Heezen & Carlos Nunez reveals great contrast. The character design of current Townies, like the backgrounds, are more round-edged and of more simplistic, specific shapes and sizes. The monsters are different too; props are more realistic and explosions usually look simpler and more streamlined, round-edged, etc. Also, character & prop outlines aren’t really thick, which many CN/H-B cartoons are know for having. As the current designs from Memory Lane of Pain show, the Mayor and Robin Schneider are seen, along with an elderly woman who looks similar to the usual one in former episodes and a kid who somewhat resembles Mitch; next to those 2, there’s also a big guy whose model appears... shrunk for some reason.
Tumblr media
Now, some Season 8-9 designs look a little more familiar, like the disguise character of an alien in Never Been Blissed, Locan Logan. He looks fairly akin to the works of Craig McCracken. Could the alien be disguising himself as Mac (from Foster’s) at an older age?
Not belittling @cheyennecurtisart‘s contributions, character designs developed for The Powerpuff Girls Movie are some of the finest ever done for the series, lead by Carey Yost; these designs were eventually implemented into the series, supervised by @andybialk and Chris Reccardi and designed by Stef Choi. Ultimately, though, @cheyennecurtisart and Carey Yost plus Andy Bialk (2002-2004 only for the latter two), did my favorites.
Tumblr media
As you can see here, Man Up 2: Still Man-ing was the one of the few current episodes where the Mayor’s mouth is visible... but it wasn’t the first time. Paul Rudish storyboarded the Mayor with his mouth for transition in Boogie Frights; some official models of him (as well as a comic book cover) show the mouth as well. It’s unorthodox, but honestly I’m not hating on the new creatives for that. In most of the episodes excluding Man Up 2, it’s probably a mistake, since in those episodes he also does the mustache lip-sync thing he tends to do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the bright side regarding nostalgically correct art direction, the Pokey Oaks flashback in The Wrinklegruff Gals (art direction by Eusong Lee) was very true to that of Paul Stec (I’d think that Ms. Keane’s in the first shot, but these shots are 1.78:1 and not “letterbox” widescreen like the DVD covers of most CN shows in the last decade claim them to be in). They included students Mitch Mitchelson, Elmer Sglue, Robin Schneider, Harry Pitt, Suzie Jenkins, and Clara (the African girl in purple dress, called by Ms. Keane in ’Twas the Fight Before Christmas; in other episodes Jennifer Hale voiced her and the other dark-skinned girl in a pink dress). The new art creatives were so good at that, that I wondered if they’d contribute to season 5 of Samurai Jack. Speaking of that, the series finale of Samurai Jack, EPISODE CI (as did EPISODE II and Comic Issue 19), referenced The City of Townsville with the city of dogs that Jack saved! I also recently noticed a background from The Powerpuff Girls Meat Fuzzy Lumpkins in Aqua Teen Hunger Force, cleverly called “Powerpuff Mall” (tweeted here), and the episode “Universal Remonster” features a PPG with a mohawk on a Spring Break Cancun shirt!
Tumblr media
Also, there’s the reference to Abracadaver in Memory Lane of Pain, where Blossom realizes how different she looked then and a re-orchestration of the PPG’s theme plays in the background, as in the new intro itself. The shot in reference is a digitally traced, cleaned-up version of a shot with models by Andy Bialk & Chris Battle.
Tumblr media
Relatively, former character designer @chrisbattleart designed for the PPGs in the Teen Titans GO! episode “TTG vs PPG” which were true to the improved designs of @cheyennecurtisart...
Tumblr media
...though they sometimes resemble the pre-2002 models, which he reflected in the last Craig McCracken-produced episode, The Powerpuff Girls Rule!!! As with both specials, the PPGs have thick outlines & black-colored mouths and are in model-rigged or “puppet-ed” animation.
Tumblr media
Also relatively, Wander Over Yonder, which referenced both PPGs & Samurai Jack, featured @lambebeardo, who storyboarded the PPG-referencing episode The Boy Wander, who did some character design on season 8 PPG episodes.
The new theme song implements the general PPG theme within, as I said before, but there’s more nostalgia than that: the extended version of the current intro/theme song, “Who’s Got the Power?”, opens up like the original intro, with the original Tom Kenny narration, score and certain sounds. “Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice. These were the ingredients chosen to create the perfect little girl, but Professor Utonium accidentally added an extra ingredient to the concoction...” Yes, except that Utonium didn’t break the bottle of CHEMICAL X by throwing his fist in success, though; Mojo rammed him into it. That is an error of continuity, which some episodes have, namely The Power of Four (regarding a rival of Utonium, Netronium, creating the perfect little boy)... though there is one thing that that episode did right...
Tumblr media
TV PUPPET PALS PUPPETS! These character originally appeared in a few episodes like Mommy Fearest, and were created by either Genndy Tartakovsky and/or @crackmccraigen for The Justice Friends, whose pilot was about TV Puppet Pals. Once again, some nostalgia is preserved; thanks to Prop Designer Nathan Alexander Rico (and/or the act’s character designers/storyboard artists)!
In case no one noticed: I refer to the current seasons of The Powerpuff Girls, produced and directed by Nick Jennings & Bob Boyle, as the 7th, 8th, and 9th seasons, since, to me, it’s still the same show; despite different art direction and other styles. The other reason is that some episodes did call back to former events, like I said about Memory Lane of Pain.
Another thing that seems to be lacking in The Powerpuff Girls is the visually cartoony stuff. Memory Lane of Pain is the only episode to use a “pow” cloud as the Rubber Bandit streaks out of a shot. This was common in earlier episodes, often accented visually with words like “POW”, “ZIP”, etc. In most current episodes, characters run out of a shot more realistically.
WHAT’S WITH THE ANIMATION?
Additionally, most of the animation direction, though still with Robert Alvarez, Randy Myers and Richard Collado, is pervasively slow-paced, compared to the pre-2016 episodes, namely those of seasons 5-6 and, of course, The Powerpuff Girls Movie, on which Genndy Tartakovsky was the main animation director. Unlike most current CN Studios programs, however, Samurai Jack season 5 did its “sheet timing” very well, particularly in EPISODE XCVIII and its scene of Ashi owning a whole army of orcs (Sheet Timing by Rob Renzetti & Robert Alvarez; storyboarded & written by Bryan Andrews & Genndy Tartakovsky).
As with that and most CN Studios programs, both Samurai Jack and The Powerpuff Girls have animation that is checked by CN’s Sandy & Julie Benenati. Speaking of creatives still involved, there’re at least 25 people still working on The Powerpuff Girls just as they did decades ago... including @joltumblingart, a former BG/Prop designer! At least us nostalgia-craving fans can appreciate that! (By the way, if you crave classic CN Studios projects, you can watch the ENTIRE series of Samurai Jack here!)
WHAT OF THE NEW GIRLS AND GUYS ON THE SHOW?
Now, I can say that some of the new creatives could serve The Powerpuff Girls well:
Tumblr media
Character designer @cheyennecurtisart did designs for Star vs. the Forces of Evil; the show’s art direction (namely season 1/Joshua & Justin Parpan, but also including Israel Sanchez, who all worked on Wander Over Yonder) is similar to the works of @crackmccraigen and closer to the Mike Moon / Paul Stec styles I prefer, specifically elements of background/location design and character design. Some designs of Princess Bluebelle in the Emmy-winning episode Once Upon a Townsville seem to resemble the looks of Star Butterfly. Also, SvTFOE location designer Larry Murphy did background design for PPG episodes “Save Mojo” and “Substitute Creature”. A number of creatives from SvTFOE should work on current PPGs too, regarding art direction/design/storyboarding action, in addition to former creatives involved with Samurai Jack (including season 5) and Paul Rudish’s Mickey Mouse, including clean-up artist king Robert Lacko. Relatively, SvTFOE location designer @peteremmerich served as the art director on Netflix’s Harvey Street Kids, whose background design is very much like the PPG locations under Paul Stec’s art direction.
Character designer @lambebeardo did storyboards for Disney’s Wander Over Yonder, created and executively produced by @crackmccraigen, as mentioned before, including “The Boy Wander”, which ends ala “The Day is Saved!” segment. There’re 2 specific creatives for a season 7 (or, in reboot terms, season 1) PPG episode...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Power Up Puff features storyboard artist Roque Ballesteros, who storyboards for Star Wars: Forces of Destiny and did animation/layout on CN’s Enter Mode 5 at Ghostbot. One could compare that to Bryan Andrews who did storyboards for Star Wars: Clone Wars (2003-2005) at Cartoon Network Studios, where Power Up Puff was produced; Brian Larsen, who worked with Bryan Andrews, also did storyboards for PPG and Samurai Jack, as well as (the non-Cartoon Network Studios) Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008-2019)...
Tumblr media
...and then there’s animation director Shaun Cashman, who did animation/sheet timing for another CN Studios original, Genndy Tartakovsky’s Sym-Bionic Titan. Cashman also supervised the timing on Disney’s Star vs. the Forces of Evil and produced Grim & Evil AKA The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy for CN. I think that there’s some good animation timing in Power Up Puff, which’s rare due to the way CN Studios and SMIP do the animation these days.
Tumblr media
One episode I intend to note here is Save the Date, which’s about Ms. Keane, as was Keen on Keane. A few aspects on design are covered below. One is about the title cards as shown above (which uses props/characters to reflect the episode’s subject/theme) and below.
Tumblr media
These cards swipe to the right, rather than having the PPGs beam by and then reveal the storyboard artist/writer and art director. Originally the text was still, until after the movie and they’d zoom in slowly, not italicized and even glowing the tiniest bit. Also, some of the writers aren’t storyboarding, and the art director’s listed on the credits.
Tumblr media
Lastly, of course, every single episode is directed just by Nick Jennings and Bob Boyle, aside from a supervising director. Can’t someone from Samurai Jack, Wander Over Yonder, Star vs. the Forces of Evil direct instead? Often, an animation director like Robert Alvarez or Randy Myers would direct The Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, Grim & Evil, etc. For that matter, someone on the show should get, like, Genndy Tartakovsky (currently at Sony Pictures Animation) to direct. High-octane action and slapstick are a big part of his direction.
Tumblr media
Since the Season 7 episode People Pleaser, @deanheezen is the main character designer, in place of @cheyennecurtisart; @carlosluisnunez still contributes, but usually Dean Heezen or Gordon Hammond (and sometimes Steve Lambe and Alan Lambe) are the only designers for an episode. From the episode Save the Date onward, Ms. Keane has only one bang, when she usually has 2, though there is one shot in Keen on Keane where she has one bang, (in various shots of the episode, she has 3 bangs).
Tumblr media
In Save the Date, Ms. Keane’s fashion is different from hers in Keen on Keane, which was modified in Octi-Gone. Also, Keane didn’t walk well in high heels in Save the Date, unlike Keen on Keane.
Tumblr media
Pertaining to certain fashion, like Keen on Keane, more of Ms. Keane’s body shape is exercised, namely on her legs. Unlike Keen on Keane Ms. Keane’s calves aren’t as obvious if [one of] her legs are straight. Usually, her legs appear shorter as well... kind of stubby, which I think is cute. In some shots in Save the Date, Ms. Keane’s hands are sharper-looking, as were the designs by Carey Yost and Stef Choi.
Relative to both animation and design, compare Ms. Keane fighting the giant, radioactive ant in Save the Date with the aforementioned sequences in Samurai Jack EPISODE XCVIII:
Tumblr media
Now, in these 2 shots, you can see more detail to the design/form of the legs in action. If Carey Yost did the designs of Ms. Keane like those they did in Keen on Keane, the look and form to Keane’s legs in action would appear maybe somewhat stylized, but far more realistic.
Tumblr media
In the fight in Save the Date, there’re a few pieces of fast-paced animation, but only a few as, like I said before, animation in CN shows these days are usually slow-paced. In Samurai Jack, of course, there’s much balance between both fast and slow-paced animation which helps convey more realistic (and intense) action. Robert Alvarez was an animation director with Sherri Wheeler (supervising) & Randy Myers for Save the Date and did sheet timing with Rob Renzetti for Samurai Jack EPISODE XCVIII.
Tumblr media
Now, like Samurai Jack, Ms. Keane here shows good form in an action pose. The lines in the PPG shot are similar to the shot of a falling catapulted rock in Samurai Jack EPISODE III, too.
Relative to Samurai Jack EPISODE XCVIII, the Dexter’s Laboratory episode Dexter Dodgeball has a very nice sequence of well-timed, balanced traditional animation including much fast-paced animation; Dexter’s hair animates somewhat as well. In addition to being filmed and animated with cels, the timing/animation direction gives to moments of this scene movie-level quality of traditional animation. “Additional Animation Direction” is claimed to be done by Robert Alvarez, @crackmccraigen and Rob Renzetti.
Tumblr media
Ms. Keane’s homes vary in the series: Dave Dunnet designed 74A in Keen on Keane and another house in ‘Twas the Fight Before Christmas, while Santino Lascano & Clark Snyder revealed a much bigger home for her in Save the Date.
Tumblr media
Speaking of location, current episodes have new places like The Snooty Rose and Penguin Pete’s...
Tumblr media
...but what about Pete’s-a Pizza, Malph’s and La Donut King Donut?
Tumblr media
One interesting thing to note about Save the Date is a matter of size (this’s also the first time in the entire series that sweet Ms. Keane cries). Of course, she’s not the only one with concerns of size.
Tumblr media
The PPGs themselves were made to be giant by Mojo Jojo, too, in What’s the Big Idea?, one of the last McCracken-produced episodes (and starring @donshank as a protest leader. He’s the Townie in that fallen building).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The other thing notable about this episode... “WHAT ABOUT THE GIANT ANT” in Bubblevision? Of course, that was a different ant that looked more realistic and just gnawed on stuff at random, but I like that more. The giant radioactive ant in Save the Date was only pushed back by the heat ray of the PPGs, but in Bubblevision the giant ant totally burned up.
Tumblr media
One thing I don’t like about the credits--aside from lacking BiS’s popular hit, The Super Secret City of Soundsville Song, which’s the PPGs’ End Title [Theme] Song--is that they don’t specify the voice of the episode’s lesser characters (such as “Todd”, who kind of sounds like Tom Kenny... just a hint of Commander Peepers in his voice). Of course, Samurai Jack season 5 sometimes did this too. Typically, they don’t credit sound designers or foley artists/recordists, either; at least The Powerpuff Girls Movie gave credit to Joel Valentine and his team for Sound Creation and Design and foley.
Tumblr media
Now, there’re approaches to character design in current episode that I do enjoy. In this shot from Buttercup vs. Math, Blossom recoils from intense emotion with a very funny yet simple face.
Tumblr media
Prior to that, of course, the former emotions are also very wild and creative...
Tumblr media
...but that doesn’t mean that Andy Bialk, Carey Yost & @chrisbattleart didn’t do that either (though rarely), as this shot from A Very Special Blossom proves. Art Director @donshank and Models guy Carey Yost, like many great CN Studios creatives, were formerly involved with Spumco, particularly on The Ren & Stimpy Show, which could account for this wild, somewhat detailed design.
Unlike most of Craig McCracken’s former works, except for Wander Over Yonder, character reactions in design weren’t usually as exaggerated as they are in the new PPG episodes. Such design extremes tend not to apply to Ms. Keane as she’s rather mellow and more realistic with emotional reactions, and usually not in grave danger or needful otherwise, compared to another woman designed by Cheyenne Curtis, Star Butterfly, who tends to be highly poignant with emotion (in most ways I love her more than Ms. Keane because Star’s been through a lot, needful and emotional).
Tumblr media
In very rare cases, though, like these shots in Keen on Keane and Speed Demon, Ms. Keane shows catchlights in a closeup, which may contribute to either intensely poignant emotion and/or close-up detail (including lighting). Her look in Keen on Keane (Carey Yost) does suggest a needful emotion, but not too exaggerated.
As I said before, I don’t care for the current art direction as much, except for @cheyennecurtisart‘s part; eventually Dean Heezen took over until Gordon Hammond started doing all of the character design, which aren’t really much different. Some others don’t like the designs currently with The Powerpuff Girls, including one artist who decided to re-design and re-animate the promoted scene from Man Up. The designs of the PPGs look very much like the SSN 1-4 models, and the rest vary; some resemble Andy Bialk/Stef Choi or Stephanie Ramirez. The backgrounds are very detailed but similar to the original art direction.
Tom Kenny’s famous, lovable narration that began and ended all pre-2016 episodes has been absent in most current PPG episodes (except for a few, like Painbow, Little Octi Lost, and Fashion Forward). Even worse is a talking snowman voiced by Maurice LaMarche narrating instead--and on-screen--which is one of the major crimes to The Powerpuff Girls in their second Christmas episode, You’re a Good Man, Mojo Jojo. “I BEGIN AND END EACH EPISODE OF POWERPUFF GIRLS, ME, THE NARRATOR!” he claimed at the end of Los Dos Mojos. Next to Scaramouche, Spongebob and Commander Peepers, his narration on The Powerpuff Girls is one of his finest and most memorable roles.
Also missing are more familiar and specific Townies like the Chief of Police, the Pokey Oaks students (excluding the flashback scene), Floyd & Llyod... Also, since Chuck McCann died, I wonder who’d voice the Amoeba Boys now. Perhaps former creative Lou Romano could, since he was their original voice in the pilot/Craig’s student film A Sticky Situation. Some creatives and production staff on the show made cameos, namely @donshank (voiced first by Tom Kenny and then Shank himself), who, himself, served as a supportive character in What’s The Big Idea? leading a protestant group against the PPGs. This Easter egg is rare in cartoons these days (though a recent Teen Titans Go! episode put @chrisbattleart and other creatives in a city crowd), but the episode Electric Buttercup implemented creatives like @cheyennecurtisart, Nick Jennings & Bob Boyle, Kyle Neswald, and others in “THE ROCK & ROLL HALL OF SHAME”.
In general, the approach to sound design on the show is a bit quieter but uses more Disney sound effects and other typical Hacienda Post sound design, as well as aural gags thematically associated with noting a certain subject (e.g. a cash register opening and ringing accents a thematic element pertaining to the Monopoly-esq game in Rainy Day, as money is a relative/thematic element). Although Hacienda Post (namely the team) has always been involved with the series since 1998, the original “Sound Creation and Design”, debuting on the episode Crime 101, was by Joel Valentine (Samurai Jack, Big City Greens, Wander Over Yonder), one of my favorite sound designers, who was only credited on The Powerpuff Girls Movie; episode credits would mention only Twenty-First Century Entertainment, Inc. for “Sound Editing”, though they obviously did sound design and foley too. Whether or Joel or all Hacienda, foley members are usually uncredited on the show, yet they bring our favorite Townies to aural life. Joel used his funny little castanet sound to accent many emotions, and the “SINGLE MAGIC WAND HIT” among other sfx to accent the PPGs beaming away. The classic H-B/Universal explosion often accented big feet, impacts and explosions, as well as the original title reveal in the intro; Joel would use some more tweaked variants of that sound too, and, next to Skywalker Sound, Joel is the only one whose consistent use of that sound excuses the general cheesy nature of that sound. Of course, in my opinion “ROCKET LAND SPEEDER: START AND AWAY”, which often accented the PPGs flying (usually for relatively fast/increasing speeds), seemed particularly exaggerated, but Hacienda Post seems to avoid overusing that.
Also, the music style often is more pervasive compared to former episodes, and Mike Reagan did some very nice cartoon-y music, like in the beginning of Rainy Day, though the style feels different from that of Thomas Chase & Steve Rucker in episodes like Pet Feud. The stylized sound of horn sections and strong techno beats in the score by James L. Venable (AKA “DJ Avalanche”) are very cool but aren’t so common in the current episodes, though respectively the action doesn’t live up as well as former episodes, like Live and Let Dynamo.
Near the end of this post, I note that I found great value in The Ren & Stimpy Show as many creatives on it/at Spumco worked on The Powerpuff Girls, Star vs. the Forces of Evil, Samurai Jack, Spongebob Squarepants, The Iron Giant, The Twisted Tales of Felix the Cat, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, and many other great animation, including a gem of a Cartoon Network “Minisode”, Buy One, Get One Free*. My love for the work of John Kricfalusi/Spumco boosted with [adult swim]’s airing of the Yogi Bear/Ranger Smith episode “Boo Boo Runs Wild” on August 13th, 2016 A.D.
To conclude: The Powerpuff Girls is an iconic show that deserves to still have some design that feels signature to it, over 25 years after the pilot, @crackmccraigen‘s CalArts student film A Sticky Situation (originally with a mildly profane name for the trio, though Paul Rudish came up with their official name). In my honest opinion, there’re 5 original people whom I wish and pray would contribute to The Powerpuff Girls again: Carey Yost (with or without @chrisbattleart), Tara Strong, Dave Dunnet (with or without @shinypinkbottle), and at least Joel Valentine. Honestly, regarding Star vs. the Forces of Evil, I hope and pray that Joel Valentine, Genndy Tartakovsky’s band of excellent writers/storyboard artists, and even @crackmccraigen could/would contribute to that franchise’s future media. Additionally, the new creatives in season 5 of Samurai Jack, like Dustin d’Arnault, David Krentz, @stephendestefano and Amanda Qian Li, should contribute to these shows too. Again, I also suggest that the former voice of The Amoeba Boys, Lou Romano (in A Sticky Situation), should replace the late Chuck McCann. While Craig’s first words to me suggest that he may not return, more or less, to PPGs, still at least members of his team deserve to, and who wouldn’t want to come back? Meanwhile, at least Craig’s working on new stuff to be announced, including Kid Cosmic for Netflix.
Tumblr media
I leave you with not only a petition image to suggest ways to bring nostalgia back to our favorite kindergarten crime-fighters, but also IMDb lists of appropriate creatives for future media of PPG, future media of Dexter’s Laboratory, and even future media of Samurai Jack (pre-Season 5 events to fill a more or less “50-year” story gap). Spread the petition (and/or IMDb lists), and perhaps our childhood days will be saved--thanks to fans like you! GO, POWERPUFF! [z, z, z-z-z-zuuu...] *cue H-B swirling star* (also a Tumblr post)

Afternoon Fic - Angel AU (Part 11)
And I’ve finally figured out a good outline for the rest of the story.  It was taking me a bit to settle into what I actually wanted to do with it, and now I’ve got more of a handle on the lead up to the finale.
Part One
Part Two
Part Three
Part Four
Part Five
Part Six
Part Seven
Part Eight
Part Nine
Part Ten
***
"In name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit…" Harold breathed.  "…O glorious Archangel St. Michael, Prince of the heavenly host, defend us in battle…"
A bright light flashed and standing before them were two familiar presences.
"Nathan!" Harold called out in relief.
"Carter." Fusco and Shaw exclaimed in shock.
The Guardians wings unfurled, making a protective barrier between the advancing demons and the humans.
"You get one warning."  Carter gave the goons a smirk.  "Go back into the hell hole you crawled out of or we'll shove you down it."
"You think two pathetic Guardian Angels can take us."  One made his way up to them, snarling and posturing. "You're out numbered."
"You're also stupid."  Nathan pulled a weapon from his coat and shot the demon.  "If you think we came alone, you're mistaken."
Suddenly men began to appear out of nowhere.  They were wearing military and police uniforms, modern and ancient.  World War Two.  Crusaders. RCMP.  Roman.  Greek. Marines.  Samurai.  SAS. ANZAC. There were 40 of them all together.  They advanced onto to the demons, weapons out and ready for war.
"And I thought I had seen some weird shit in my day."  Fusco stated, eyes wide.  "But this will lead any man straight to church."
"That's the idea…"  Brian smirked at him.  "Now that they are distracted, let's get Harold out of here."
***
Michael felt the darkness creep around him, he shook it off and waited patiently as the demon made his grand entrance.  It was always the same, intimidation to distract from the fact they were shaking in their boots being near him.
"Michael."
He kept his face neutral, staring silently at the demon who was trying to dethrone Lucifer. There were times, he really wished the fallen Angel would take care of his domain. It was annoying to deal with these morons.  Lucifer had his role, and Michael had his.  There would be no Angel above him, like no Demon above the ruler of hell.
He was tired of taking out his trash.
Though he had to admit, Lucifer wasn't stupid.  Though history never stated he was, it's much easier for him to let the morons attack an Archangel thinking it would show all the other demons that he was bigger and meaner, only to get his ass handed to him.
While Lucifer smirked, and lounged on his throne.
"Demon." He wasn't going to honor it by saying his name.  "This is a foolish quest, but then I shouldn't expect much from a lowly creature."
Michael bit back the smile at the snarl.
"You like my new suit?"  It ran its hand down the tailored, hand crafted suit.
"Logan Pierce, I commend your soul to heaven.  Be at Peace and go to God."  His voice boomed across the street, causing the smaller Demons to cower. A bright light flashed, and the Demon yelled as the soul was pulled from the body and sent home.  "I could not save his life, but his soul will be spared."
"It doesn't matter.  He was an annoyance.  I'm more interested in your little bird.  Logan's memories gave me all the information I needed."
"Then you're more of a fool than I had first thought."  Michael paused, as he felt Harold call out his prayer.  He snapped his fingers, and the two guardians he trusted the most were sent to protect him.  "Many of your kind have made the mistake of challenging me, but none were this reckless."
"You think your rehabilitated pets will protect him.  Shaw and Fusco were mine, before you dragged them into the light.  It won't take long show them where they belong."  He took a few steps forward, challenging the Archangel on a physical level.  "Let alone that Hell Hound of yours.  It knows its place."
"As should you."  He tilted his head slightly, the smirk barely there.  They had got Harold out of the building and were moving for safety.  Now he just needed to get rid of this idiot.
"What will your precious little bird say, when he discovers his beloved Grace was killed by Demons?  That the all and powerful Archangel Michael couldn't save her?"
"There is only one being All and Powerful, and I am not Him."  Michael shifted his stance, wings shifting slightly, prepping for battle.  "And you should know not to underestimate me."
Grace sat in her favorite spot looking out over the canals of Venice.  She had painted the scene a dozen times, but it was still memorizing.  It had taken her a while to adjust to living in Italy, to know that something had happened to change her life, though she had no idea what it was.
The one thing she never let herself think about was, the small nagging doubt in the back of her head that said Harold had arranged all this.  It had his fingerprints all over it, but that would mean thinking about the fact he was alive, and had not come to her.
"Your skill is very good."
She startled, jerking slightly towards the voice.  If anything those days in New York had done was make her much more aware of evil in the world.
"I am sorry. I didn't mean to startle you."
He was handsome, dark black hair, with startling blue eyes.  He was tall, but not overly so.  His suit was nice, but simple.  It took her a few moments to realize he had his hand out.
"Oh I'm sorry."  She put the brush down and took his hand.  "I'm Grace."
"Luke." He looked at her painting again. "It is quite beautiful.  I have seen many paintings of these canals, and yours is exquisite."
"You flatter."
"I tell the truth."  He put his hand on his heart and bowed.  "But I have to admit, that I am here for a purpose, Grace.  I have come to take you to safety."
She stilled. "For whatever reason?"
"Detective Stills sent me to retrieve you, stated that it was important and to trust his judgement."   Luke held out his hand, waiting until she took it, even if it was hesitantly.
"Are you a police officer?"  She asked as he led her to a waiting vehicle.
"No." He nodded at the driver, who opened the back door.  "I am a simple doctor, that patrons the arts.  And as you are an artist, I was requested to come."
"I don't understand."  She slipped into the car, half expecting to find a gun pointed at her, but only found it empty.
Luke settled next to her.  "All will come to light, my dear."
The drive was longer than she suspected, doubt and fear crept in, but anytime Luke would reach over and touch her hand, she calmed.  Everything was confusing, and she had no idea what was going on, but that nagging part in the back of her head reared up stronger than ever, that it had to do with Harold.
"Tell me the truth."  She shifted and looked at the doctor. "Is this to do with Harold?"
"In a way, yes."  He gave her a nod.  "It is beyond me to explain, but know that I'm taking you to the safest place in Italy, maybe even the world."
She nodded and settled into her seat.  Part of her was upset, angry, but she knew Harold wouldn't hurt her on purpose, and obviously was still watching out for her.  She was more upset he didn't trust her.
"Grace we're here."
She looked out the window, the evening had begun to set giving an unearthly radiance to the place. She opened the door and stepped out of the vehicle.  An tall man, wearing a dark suit, followed by two guards, that she recognized instantly the bright uniforms of the Swiss Guard.
"I am Ernesto Olivetti, Inspector General of Vatican Police."  He held out his hand.  "Welcome to the Vatican."
"Oh my." She took his hand, and was led inside.  "What has Harold gotten himself into?"
Ernesto chuckled.
The Demon frowned, snapping his fingers, sending two Hell Hounds straight for Michael.  He pulled his gun, and shot them both dead. A second gesture had a squad of attackers moving towards the Archangel.
"Is there a problem here?"  A voice called out, stopping the attackers in their tracks.
Michael glanced to either side of him, to see two police officers on large black horses. "Officers."
"Do you need assistance?"  One asked, his gaze not leaving the ring of men slowly advancing.
"I could use some, I'm need elsewhere."
"It's been a while since we've had a good fight."  George glanced over to his partner.  "What do you think Demetrius?"
"Dragons, snakes, demons they're all the same."  In a flash he was holding a magnificent shield, one that bore Michael's mark. "Let's show these guys how it's done."
George pulled his spear, and instead of a NYPD Officer he now looked like the Roman Soldier he was.  Michael smiled softly at their antics.  The two have fought together over centuries, called upon by so many.  To help fight the physical and mental dragons of this world.
"Go with God." Michael stepped back, and watched as the two Saints charged into the battle.  He listened for Harold's voice, and in a flash he was gone.

Logan's Costume Changes In Every Phases Of Wolverine Movie (Best to Worst)
Logan hit cinemas now, there has never been a better time to obsess mutant symbol "Wolverine" was that says "bub". In this article, the goal is to focus on the segments. Wolvie, played by Hugh Jackman 99% of the time and Troye Sivan following X-Men Origins opening: Wolverine had his fair share of facts during his long life, big screen, tasteless Natty up. The black leather is how it all started, with the first X-Men fun movie "yellow spandex" a snarky line of dialogue. Years later, the legend came very close to a U-turn this. And, interestingly enough, the trend of super leather suits dropped a good deal over the same period. Each is the favorite Logan of his 17-year career in the theater they seek, and have decided to sort the suit are the signature of each film and some of the other notable ensembles that have appeared only a brief. Here, each costume is rated best Wolverine film getting worse. 1. YELLOW SPANDEX! (The WOLVERINE Scene Deleted)
And finally a little trap: never again see the yellow comic copy on the big screen, because it was in favor of cutting the Wolverine, the last part of the film, rationalize. First Yukio that Logan's suit is on the level before the final credits: Logan opened a suitcase, threw Technicolor clothes and raised an eyebrow at Yukio. The scene can be seen on YouTube. It may not be an officer, then the garrison, but this is something of pure beauty. After all the uniforms, leather jackets and misaligned Western magic, it is a pleasure to see what would stand the position of a purist comic about Wolverine costume in the form of live action. Maybe one day, when Logan's role is a makeover and extravagant costumes have become acceptable as a miracle, we see Wolverine with all his yellow glory on the big screen. James Mangold is not really interested in it, so if it ever happens, it will not be for a while. However, this fact is not used - with all its beautiful textures and precise comic colors - it is the best you will get.
2. Look worn Jacket (X-MEN)
As much as the original leather uniform was great, he gave us not to say as a sign about Logan as Professor X, who gave him too late X-Men. No doubt used before the Hugh Jackman costume which, when introduced correctly after the topless fighting cage, is more important. The first appearance of the film Wolverine consisted of a brown leather jacket, denim jacket, an old brown shirt and black shirt. It also has an old West-esque belt and worn jeans. (It's no different than your Logan cowboy costume actually.) It's a well maintained and outdated whole, suggesting that Logan is a man who does not care much about his appearance, and gently hinting that it was more than expected. When Logan first encounters Vampira, with her in the bar among puffs on his cigar grunts, you immediately get a sense of who that person is. It could be great fight, but you have nothing to fight. Not important enough. The clothes he wears help give that impression. The first action was of great importance Wolverine - I set the tone for the character, his cinematic journey of 17 years always started on the right foot - and is also one of the best.
3. UNIFORM LEATHER FIRST (X-MEN)
Bryan Singer's first 2000 Wolverine X-Men divisor uniform, is certainly still the best they've come with. Along with the cast of the Jackman role, Wolverine redefined for a film group. The animal was short and yellowish rage comics gone, and instead an Australian actor was 6'2 '' a mysterious amnesiac with claws and a leather suit suit. The idea was to tie the yellow jacket inspired to do enough to show that the filmmakers and designers were not playing thoroughly the comic canon. Two on the neck, one on each handle and the belt buckle: Hammered was this respect for the home material of no less than five X symbols. In addition, shoulder and arm padding in this first uniform is more like that of a motorcycle jacket, the useless-to-the-love-of-it texturing that came after. This is the costume that made the movie buffs Wolverine serious, and made sure that the comic book fans were kept happy. A master clock, actually. 4. All Black ALL (THE WOLVERINE)
Nothing says "this is waste cooler and less than the last Wolverine movie 'enough to make its protagonist in a black suit plonking everyone. What is surprising is how well it works because it sounds so extravagant as old socks On paper, as a deliberate attempt to make the film look grumpy and grown up. The reality of Hugh Jackman all in black, Wolverine Sport slightly flattened hair, claws stained with blood, is really unbelievably cool. He catered very well to the idea of Logan as a samurai and separates the effect of heavy leather vest / vest glasses we had seen before. Logan's views on a suit and tie should be shocking, but in fact it's one of the less grating elements of The Wolverine. It is certainly a better idea of the villain to give a shiny mech silver suit. This elegant selection is ideal for Japanese expedition Logan's suit, and his funeral reflected the dark morbid (though ultimately uncooked) morbid themes about Logan's desire to die and the death that follows.
5. Future Game (X-Men: Days of Future PAST)
The Board decided to pay the leather X-Men: Days of Future Past, designed a really amazing Wolverine costume run. Instead of the elegance of the old uniforms, Jackman has a promise of more tactical appearance that seems to be a bit more bulletproof than elegant. It has metal parts, and padding protection. It looks ready for battle. It also has blue and yellow manga, provides a return to the cartoon and cartoon series. Longtime character fans have a kick out of this design decision, and creates a brighter than the previous films of the X-Men, without compromising the integrity of Wolverine sand suit compromise. Unfortunately, it was not much with the future version of Wolverine. He was sent back to the past and then accused of lying to the rest of the film. But even this action is a great mix of cinema, realism and color comics. 6. SECOND LEATHER UNIFORM (X2: X-Men United)
What a difference a belt buckle makes. In many ways - the black color, textured shoulder pads, yellow lining - this is the same suit he wore Hugh Jackman X-Men: The Last Stand. But the X2: X-Men United version somehow manages to be much better. The differences are minimal, but they make a big difference. A yellow X badge on the belt buckle adds a bit more fun and a bit of respect to the comic show, and it looks like it could be different shades that are used in black leather sections. The X through Pecs Jackman certainly seems to be a bit more than he did in the next movie. The yellow lining also goes a little farther, shoulders, arms and abdomen accentuate more than the latest version of the brace. X2 is undoubtedly the best film X-Men Wolverine Magistrale in terms of material and has a strong fit equipment.
7. snazzy shirt and jacket 70S (X-Men: Days of Future PAST)
A suit does not always have a deep and meaningful history to win our hearts. Sometimes, just look as cool as hell. This is the ambience that 1970's Wolverine costume shines on in X-Men: Days of Future Past. It's really just a generic suit period, but Ronin's evil takes it so well. After all these years in black Hugh Jackman watch uniforms, waistcoats and leather jackets, it was a shock to the system to see something as colorful and playful as this. The funk standard shirt, collar collar, humungous belt and funky buckle is a striking phrase. If you with some of the finest hairstyles of the franchise and clutches of Pre-Stryker bone match everything, you have a really impressive look. In this film, change in the past have focused on, changing Jackman in the past was a real highlight.
8. SANS COWBOY (Logan)
For reasons that do not leave spoiler reasons to protect Western films - especially film Shane George Stevens 1953 - play a major role in Logan. Wolverine, of course, he always had the air of a lonely old western gunslinger in him, and Logan makes some interesting ones about this idea of building moves. One way to do this is, Logan dressing up with the outfit - a black T-shirt under a royal blue shirt under a brown jacket, literally score on a cowboy display. It does not choose to resign, but if you ever choose Logan this equipment, it can be read as growing as a sign. In addition to his dull workwear, Logan decides to dress up as a cowboy conscious. Unwritten words, but the implication is that he is willing to embrace a heroic identity. There can not be an X-Man, but you can still do good in the world. They may not be the most prominent Logan topics, but what makes this set represent important.
9. WOLVERINE Weapon X (X-Men: Apocalypse)
Except for the X-Men: First Class Cameo Bar and footage of Hugh Jackman's face in Deadpool, this scene in X-Men: Apocalypse, the shortest time Wolverine spent on screen in a X-movie. Was imitating the sketch created by this brief carnage. The city, with red eyes, the filmmaker must be intriguing looked but experimental comic readers recognized as an allusion to comic book Weapon X written in 1991 and illustrated by Barry Windsor-Smith. It is a simplified version of the suit as drawn - Comics to contain an integral head helmet with a Cyclops-like eye window - but the number was evident. In terms of practicality, it is discussed just one step up from the jeans-on-a-suit vest. You have to worry about the poor Wolvie when it works in the snow will use only a few cuts, a harness and a technical device. But still, it looks good. And that's the main thing, is not it?
10. GENERIC WORKWEAR (Logan)
It's something to see incredibly sad, Logan dressed in a poorly washed shirt and an ill fitting jacket, his hair and beard scruffy. It's like seeing an old friend at work unchanged and scruffy stumbled, the morning after a Christmas party at the office, which got out of hand. Except, of course, Logan is the whole society that has gone a little wrong. Here is the iconic hero Hugh Jackman is in a constant state of hangover line work even more difficult could not be created. There are only mutants, the X-Men have cartoon characters, and the most powerful heroes on Earth had come down to get a normal job. Working for Uber post-apocalyptic is a depressing life in Logan's big screen chapter, and this is the carefree and glamorous suit you fit. It may not be cool, but it's perfect for the opening of the latest Wolverine look grim movie. 11. UNIFORM LEATHER THIRD (X-Men: The Final Clash)
Best official uniforms Wolverine this is the especially gentle number of X-Men:. The Last Stand It is painfully simple, looking almost identical to all others with its black color and unnecessary textures around its shoulders. Beast, short lines and a proper X sleeves emblem have the only decent uniform on the film. The rest of the team gets the same standard edition of the gummy garbage, with the least hint of color for some of the seams. Wolvie had a yellow chest X, for example, but it's subtly that can only be seen in the finished film. Undoubtedly, this is the point when Leathersuits feel fresh stopped. Could have something a little more colorful things lively but fans had to wait until X-Men: First Class to. However, it is a fine line between the precision of modern comics and stepping acceptance. Purple Horror Psylocke X-Men: Apocalypse definitely proved that it can go too far towards the comics as The Last Stand showed that the source material can ignore for a long time to be annoying.
12. The view of LUMBERJACKMAN (X-Men Origins: Wolverine)
He is a woodcutter and well, his wife was not killed by mistake today. Undoubtedly the best Wolverine worst film costume (as the rest of his X-Men leather jacket never looked good), this tree-block set says a lot about the state of Logan's psyche at this point in the movie. For the first time Logan is at peace when in the woods. He works hard for a peaceful, working trees instead of cutting people for a change. It is in the garden of nature and really has a purpose in bleeding. Good for him. The plaid flannel shirt may mean a bit about the shape of the nose that since they were pictures of Logan felled trees enough would take away the view. However, it has grown to look great and significant than a vest, jeans or dress. Another easy for cosplayers, too.
13. COWBOYS and a jacket (other films)
One step up a half-suit team is another incredibly common look for Logan: Combined Jeans and Vest that if counted the minutes of the entire franchise, there may be more than the current X-Men uniforms are worn. A hand for lazy people, it is also very easy for fancy parties to recreate. That's exactly why this fact with the character has become synonymous with a bit of mystery. Maybe it's because it presents the hero Hugh Jackman as a humble man who likes beer among the superpowers to sit spectacular on a plateau with a few cans. Or maybe it's because it's cheap to repeatedly play for the costume department with additional blood splashes and bullet holes per movie. Curiosity: X-Men: The Last Stand, seems to have its own Wolvie vest of renewable energy. They were called peaks in the forest for life, ripping holes in their beloved huge piece of sleeveless clothing, but in the next scene, the holes disappeared. Or Logan has super powers or carries a spare. 14. Only minimal equipment (other films)
It would be at least a free topless scene Hugh Jackman a Wolverine movie without. Pants, but nothing about what is the most common form of filmmakers in his X-Film without shirt shirtless goat, but you could forget the time that the whole pig was and had a completely naked Logan lake alkaline leak and jump into a waterfall In X- Men Origins: Wolverine? The look of the denim shirt is not just a suit, but it is worn so many times that it has been the inclusion here worthy. And what is lacking in style and protection against the elements, the balanced over the laundry costs. Is performing heart surgery on himself at Wolverine, after his scars on Logan, and shot several times, after a bed of air on the license X-Men-Wolverine successfully changed his dry cleaning functions on numerous occasions: Days of Future Past opting to get rid of his shirt for a scene or two. He is the best at what he does and what he does is his abs.
15 Children's Dress (X-Men Origins: Wolverine)
X-Men Origins: Wolverine began his inelegant to delegitimize his previously enigmatic protagonists from the outside, with Troye Sivan the role of an opening salvo save sum, the too many whining incredibly fast climbing patricide disease inadvertently. You must have noticed the choice of clothing for this young James Howlett, which contributed significantly to the feeling that the opening of Wolvie was eroded. Yes, before immortal Wolverine was in the heart of the aggressor X-Men, who was a child who needs a white pajama haircut and a red robe. You see, even if it lacked you severely cold, the story was to show how James was different before the journey began his hero. To be called before the Weapon X program came, he was just an ordinary young man; Able to wear and wear adorable nightwear and kill his father like the rest of us.
