it’s knowing how much a shot of cream is, because when we go to diners and sit in the vinyl booths, you tell me that you want to put shots of cream in your coffee but you don’t really want to so you won’t. every time without fail.
it’s gripping the steering wheel tighter when you start to recognize the turns, you’re not taking the exit and you’re moving past it anyways, in all ways, but you grip the steering wheel a little tighter anyways. anticipation or stress or unrighteous cynicism. you’re not used to having nails and they dig into your skin. my knuckles are white like shots of cream against the black of the wheel now, and i cannot let go

California, Pt. 2

i & ii
The last two (four) poems in an anthology from a road trip down to California. I wrote the first drafts in the dark, then transcribed and developed them later. Normally I wouldn’t post first drafts but I feel that these add to it- it was really my friend who suggested I keep them. I owe these poems to them.

technically untitled or “take me back to the tree”, 2020
This is the first poem that I really cared to share, and kept me writing more. One of my personal favorites to this day. Strong feelings for this time period in my life, to this poem. This is probably my favorite, or at least most read.
