Bro strider totally fucking sucks and that’s the fun part of making hcs and analyzing him. Thanks again for answering that.
I will look forward to seeing that development over the course of the story!
Okay, here’s the question we’ve all been waiting for…..
Is Bro Strider…. attractive?
NO BUT LIKE HERE A SERIOUS QUESTION:
How did your interest in Bro Strider grow? I can tell you’ve been around with Homestuck for a long time.
I’m gonna be asking a lot about Bro strider if that wasn’t obvious already because I ended up getting interested in him (along with the other guardians) once the alpha kids were introduced. People also kept drawing him attractive and my poor self can’t handle that. I am only but a human being.
THHSLFKJS:ELIFJES:OI O:IJFESOI this is so fucking funny to me i'm sorry thank you for asking i'm just laughing so hard
because like
he shouldn't be right bro should not be attractive he looks ridiculous he is just a little guy BUT the fandom just decided actually this guy must be sexy and that was the end of it! i feel like when i was younger i was probably like ya that guy is hot or whatever lol but now it's evolved to, "this man is so tired all the time also his nose is crooked because it was broken when he was a teenager and aLSO he has never slept ever in his life" so. insomuch as a scraggled up dumpster raccoon can be attractive, i'd say he is! i can only draw him one way lol so i think i'm stuck with my headcanons and just. whatever shame that brings on me
"I can tell you've been around with homestuck for a long time" is certainly true! i feel like it's come up more lately but yes i have been here since spring 2011 basically! i've been trapped here for 11 years......... help
BUT honestly it went from passing interest in like, the concept of the dude everyone was drawing, to a more concrete person, once dirk was introduced, and then i left the fandom for awhile, came back, read all of dirk and dave's huge heart to heart, and then became basically a rabid animal who couldn't stop thinking about bro strider!!
i read like, all the gen fics in the bro tag but it simply was not enough, and then when i finally sat down and started writing rng, bro just kind of. decided he had to be a part of it lol! there wasn't really supposed to be a perspective shift ever but the second it happened i was just like. wow i really like being in this guy's head????
honestly just the concept of dirk in general really gets me i think he's such a funny little guy, and awful, and if i'm being genuine, i bet i connected with him on a certain level in 2016, when i got back into homestuck, and that led me to like, the question dave asks in the comic which is like "who knows what life would have been like if we hadn't had the puppet hanging overhead" and then i was like yeah.... maN what would a dirk be like who was like, influenced by an outside force, and how do you reconcile the concept of a genuinely bad upbringing with someone who you still love and who is still a real person and is that person capable of change??? and like, what does a lack of control mean for A Dirk Strider???
and then, post canon, my thesis is, always, "Who is Bro Strider without a purpose?" and that's really my driving force behind exploring him c:
i always joke with my friends, "we do not apologize for bro strider, but we do strive to understand him as a dirk" and i stand by that!
yeah c:

For as long as you could remember, you wanted to be a teacher.
Apparently, after coming home from your first day in kindergarten, you had announced to your parents that you wanted to be a kindergarten teacher. Twenty years later, you were living your dream.
Your kindergarten kids were your whole life. You always loved seeing them, watching them grow and learn. You typically dreaded summer vacation because you missed your kids and teaching so much, despite the few months of break.
This was only your second year of teaching, but you were enjoying it just as much as your first. It was tough saying goodbye to the first group of students, but it made it worth it when you saw them in the school halls and some still ran up to greet you.
School had just let out for another day and you already missed the bright young minds of your students. You were cleaning up your classroom before working on some grading when you heard a small voice coming from your doorway.
“Miss Y/L/N?”
You turned and saw a little girl with light brown curls and a turquoise blue backpack standing in your doorway, looking hesitant. She was one of your best behaved students, Ayla Reid.
“Ayla! Did you forget something?”
She shook her head, her ponytail bouncing with the movement.
“My daddy is late and they told me at the office to come stay with you instead of waiting outside by myself. Is that okay?”
She was the sweetest little girl. She was a bright little girl as well, having no trouble with soaking up new knowledge like her brain was a tiny sponge. She was always kind and helpful when it came to other classmates, but she never hesitated to speak her mind. All in all, she was an outgoing, bubbly little girl with a heart of gold.
“Of course, sweetie. Come on in.”
You took the chair to her desk off the top of it, setting it back on the floor so she could sit in her usual place.
You peeked over your shoulder as you headed to your arts and crafts station to see her settling in to her normal desk. You grabbed some paper and crayons and walked back to her with them in hand.
“Would you like to color while you wait?”
She nodded, smiling big.
“I love to color!”
You laughed, knowing that all too well. It was one of her favorite activities when doing schoolwork.
“Is your daddy always late when picking you up?” you asked, sitting back down behind your desk.
“Yeah. Sometimes it’s just a few minutes, but he’s never been this late,” she answered.
She’d already opened the box of crayons and was starting to draw before you’d even asked your question.
You glanced at the clock in your room to see it was nearing 3:15. School let out at 2:30–Ayla’s father was nearly an hour late.
“This doesn’t happen all the time,” she said, “‘Cause sometimes my mommy picks me up.”
You understood that. Plenty of your students had parents who worked full time and was occasionally late to pick them up.
She said nothing else as she was busy with her picture, so you started sorting through the turned in work for the week so far. You would have to log in grades and update the grades later on so it was just easier to get through this first step now.
“My daddy works a lot,” Ayla said out of the blue.
You looked up, smiling, seeing her still hard at work with her crayons.
“What does he do?” you asked, interested.
“He’s a pwofiler. I’m not quite sure what that means but he works in the FBI. That’s like the police but more important.”
You chuckled. She wasn’t one to miss much. When you’d said she was incredibly smart, you hadn’t been exaggerating.
“That sounds like a very interesting job. I’m sure you’re incredibly proud of him, Ayla,” you said.
“Mhm,” she nodded big, looking up from her picture, “He’s very smart too. He’s got a robotic memory!”
You raised a brow, not quite sure what she meant, but laughed anyway.
“Is that so? That’s impressive.”
“He a docta. But not like the ones you go to when you’re sick.”
She went back to the picture and you watched her for a moment, amused. There was so much energy and spunk in this little girl. You wouldn’t doubt for one minute that her parents had their hands full with her.
“Can I show you my picture?” she asked.
“Of course, let me see.”
You stood up, walking over to her desk, crouching to her level.
On it, there were several stick figures.
“Oh that’s beautiful,” you grinned, “Are these your friends?”
“No, these my aunties and uncles at the BAU. That’s where my daddy works.”
“I see,” you said, listening intently.
“This my daddy,” she pointed to the tallest of the group.
“This is auntie Emily, auntie JJ, auntie Penelope and auntie Tara.”
She smiled proudly as pointed at the obvious female stick figures.
“And what about these three?” you asked, motioning to a group of men.
“That is uncle Luke, uncle Dave and uncle Matt. The two on that side are uncle Hotch and uncle Derek. They don’t work with my daddy anymore but they still my uncles.”
“Wow, you’ve got a lot of extended family, don’t you?”
“Yes,” she beamed.
“Ayla, honey, I’m so sorry.”
You stood up from where you were crouching next to Ayla to see a quite tall man walking into your classroom, a tan, leather satchel slung over his body.
“Daddy!” Ayla squealed, jumping out of her seat, running towards him.
She collided into his legs, hugging him and he picked her up with a big smile on his face, kissing her cheek.
You took the moment to get a better look at him, now that he was closer.
He was undeniably attractive, but didn’t seem to be the type that flaunted his looks either. His light brown hair was as curly as his daughter’s and looked to be in a bit of disarray, part of it falling over his forehead while other curls fell in numerous directions.
He was outfitted in a work suit, a tie and sweater underneath his suit jacket. He pulled it off very well.
His eyes gleamed as he looked at his daughter and she kissed his stubbled cheek. You didn’t fail to notice his sharp jawline or his easy, bright smile either.
“I’m sorry I’m so late,” he apologized, whether to Ayla or you, you weren’t entirely sure.
“It’s okay daddy. I like Miss Y/L/N. She’s pretty like a princess.”
You sucked in a breath in surprise, touched by her words. You couldn’t help when your eyes immediately teared up. It was such a sweet and sincere thing for Ayla to say and knowing kids were brutally honest, you knew she meant every word of it.
You cleared your throat, composing yourself when you noticed Ayla’s father watching you, eyes squinting in concentration.
He probably thinks you’re a blubbering fool, you thought.
“It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Reid,” you extended your hand.
“It’s docta Reid,” Ayla corrected you, emphatically.
“Excuse me, I’m sorry. Dr. Reid.”
He chuckled, setting Ayla back down and telling her to get her things together.
“It’s no big deal,” he said, shaking your hand.
You tried not to focus on the fact his hand was so large in yours as you quickly pulled back, silencing any further thoughts.
“I told Miss Y/L/N how you’re a pwofiler and have a robotic memory!” Ayla exclaimed, as she cleaned up her desk, putting her picture in her backpack.
“Uh, it’s actually eidetic,” he said, flushing a bit.
“I couldn’t remember what it was called so I just went with robotic,” Ayla shrugged.
You both chuckled at her response, before turning back to each other.
“I was wondering how smart you must be to have a robotic memory,” you smiled.
“Well she was kinda close,” he grinned, running a hand through his hair, “Eidetic is just another term for photographic memory.”
“Oh wow,” you said, surprised, “That’s impressive. No wonder you have such a brilliant daughter.”
He smiled appreciatively and said his thanks before speaking again.
“I don’t remember seeing you at the Kindergarten registration a few months ago.”
“Oh, unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend as I was sick. My teacher’s assistant Mrs. Lamb stepped in for me. Apparently she was a big hit though because she got all the kids to believe she was from Old MacDonald's Farm!”
You cringed inwardly at your spiel. You were used to talking to five year olds and other teachers, definitely not attractive dads, let alone men in general.
You chided yourself again. He was probably married anyway and you had little business drooling over a student’s father.
His smile was on full display though as he laughed at your statement.
“Come on Ayla, we need to get going. I have to head back to work for a little while but you can hang out with auntie Penelope okay?”
“Okay!” she grinned, putting on her backpack and taking his hand.
They were just leaving when something made you stop them.
“Um, Dr. Reid?”
He paused, turning back to you.
“Yes?”
“If you ever find yourself running late to pick Ayla up, I’d be happy to let her stay in my classroom until you get here.”
You’re not sure why you offered. Well for one, you really did like Ayla, she was such a sweet girl. But you tried to convince yourself that it was just a nice gesture to hopefully make things a bit easier on him. You knew sometimes your parents struggled with finding someone to pick up their child from school on time.
It wasn’t because you hoped to see him again. Definitely not.
“Oh you don’t have to. I can try to get away earlier when possible,” he protested.
“No, it’s okay,” you reassured, “I’d love the company. Besides, she’s such a joy to have.”
He seemed to take a moment to think it over before nodding.
“I just may take you up on that.”
“Daddy, what does pwofiling mean?”
Spencer had just lifted Ayla into the car and placed her into her booster seat, where she was currently buckling the seatbelt to it.
“Well,” he paused, intrigued at what could have brought on her sudden question, “It’s just studying a person’s behavior. For example, I can recognize how you behave guiltily when you eat the last cookie in the cookie jar.”
Ayla grinned big, not in the least bit ashamed.
“But you do that with bad guys right?”
“That’s correct, baby,” he smiled, kissing her forehead.
He closed the back door and walked around to the driver’s side door, sliding in. He had just gotten his own seatbelt clicked into place when she spoke again.
“Daddy, I pwofiled you.”
“Did you now?” he chuckled, amused at his little girl’s comment.
“Yes,” she nodded, “You like Miss Y/L/N.”
“Well of course I do, she’s your teacher and she’s very nice.”
“No, I mean you like like her,” she emphasized.
“What makes you say that?” he asked.
“Because you’re smiling all goofy,” she said like it was the most obvious thing in the world, “You only smile like that when you talk about things you know about.”
He felt himself flush a little bit. It was true, he hadn’t stopped smiling since they’d left Ayla’s classroom. There was something refreshing about her teacher and he would have to be blind to not admit she was indeed as Ayla had said, very pretty.
“Are you going to ask her to be your girlfriend?” Ayla asked as he drove out of the school parking lot.
He chuckled at her brazenness.
“Honey, I don’t even know her. Besides, I’m too busy to date.”
“I’m busy too but I have a boyfriend.”
“You do?” Spencer asked, trying his best to hide his surprise.
“Of course, daddy,” she rolled her eyes, exasperated, like she was a teenager already, “I’m busy and don’t always get to see Michael but he my boyfriend.”
Spencer smiled to himself. Michael LaMontagne was his best friend JJ’s and her husband Will’s youngest son. He was a little over two years older than Ayla, but she always proclaimed that Michael was her boyfriend. The two got along extremely well and it was incredibly adorable.
He decided not to comment any further on it though because he knew she wouldn’t give up on it easily.
“Baby, you know what days daddy picks you up, right?”
“Yup. Mondays and Fridays.”
“Good. Since I never know when I might be running late, will you ask Miss Y/L/N if you could stay with her until I get there?
“Okay daddy.”
She turned to the window, watching the passing landscape, her previous conversation apparently finished.
He’d be lying to himself if he said he wasn’t looking forward to seeing Ayla’s teacher again.
Ayla rushed out of the elevator when the doors opened on the floor the BAU was located on.
“There’s my favorite girl!”
Penelope has been waiting for them, excited to spend time with her goddaughter. As she was her only goddaughter, Ayla definitely got a bit spoiled.
“Auntie Penelope!” Ayla squealed, running into Garcia’s arms.
“How was your day at school, pumpkin?” she asked.
“Good,” Ayla beamed.
“Must’ve been, your daddy is 15 minutes late getting back,” Garcia said, eyebrow raised in amusement.
“Uh, traffic,” Spencer said.
“No,” Ayla shook her head, looking up at Spencer, “You were busy smiling at Miss Y/L/N.”
“Miss Y/L/N?” Garcia questioned, her interest piqued.
“She’s my teacher,” Ayla explained, “And she’s really pretty, auntie Penelope. Like a princess!”
“Like a princess, huh?”
Garcia was now eyeing Spencer hardcore with a knowing grin. Spencer knew she would be all over this with a million questions before long.
“Sweetie, why don’t you go hang out with auntie Penelope now while daddy finishes up his work?”
“Alright. Come on auntie Penelope! I wanna show you the picture I drew!”
Ayla grabbed her hand, practically dragging Garcia towards her lair.
Garcia looked over her shoulder pointing a finger at him.
“Don’t think you’ve escaped my questions! We’re talking about this later!”
Spencer knew good and well they would be.
“So, a pretty kindergarten teacher, huh?”
Spencer startled, seeing Luke standing in the doorway of the BAU, his back against the glass door, holding it open. In his hand was a plastic cup of coffee that he was drinking. He’d obviously been here longer than Spencer had realized and had heard everything.
“Don’t you start too,” he grumbled.
“Hey, I’m just curious!” Luke protested, following Spencer in as he walked into the unit, “How pretty is she?”
“Very,” Spencer mumbled to himself.
Getting her out of his head would be the best thing to do, although maybe not the easiest.
It was the third time that you were keeping Ayla in your classroom after school until Dr. Reid could pick her up.
You found yourself counting down the hours every Monday and Friday, waiting to see his bright and smiling face.
You couldn’t believe you were looking forward to a maybe five minute encounter out of your entire day, but here you were.
“Miss Y/L/N?” you heard Ayla call from her desk.
“Yes?”
You looked up from the learning packets you were stapling together for the new week.
“Is it okay if I feed Freddy?”
Freddy was the class pet, a neon tetra fish. He was a simple fish, one that was easy for new fish owners, from what you’d researched before getting him.
He was small, but feisty. His coloring really took you by surprise when you first got him. With colors of bright red and green, red towards the end of his body and a lime green towards his front with a turquoise blue duochrome look to him, he always looked festive and bright.
He had an automatic fish feeder, but every once in a while you let one of your students throw a small amount in for him as an extra treat.
“Of course,” you smiled, getting up to help her.
You walked over to the fish tank and grabbed the fish food, opening it for her.
“Now, just get a tiny little pinch, okay?”
She nodded and did what she was told, her face serious as she concentrated on what she was doing.
Stepping up on the stool you left in front of the tank—for the small kids purposes—she sprinkled the food into the water. Freddy immediately devoured it.
“I think he liked it,” she smiled, watching him through the glass.
“I think he did too,” you agreed.
“Well, what do we have here?”
You turned, seeing Dr. Reid walk in, a smile on his face.
Your stomach fluttered, seeing him again for the first time in days.
“I fed Freddy, daddy!” Ayla grinned big, running to give him a hug.
“Did you now? That’s a very big girl task! I’m proud of you! High five!”
He was crouched in front of her, hugging her but then he pulled out of her embrace and held up his hand, which she high fived.
“It’s time to get your things kiddo, we’re having your favorite for dinner tonight,” he said.
“Chicken nuggets with sweet potato fries?”
“You guessed it! Now go,” he shooed her towards her desk.
You smiled, watching them. He stood back up, facing you with a small smile.
“I hope she wasn’t any trouble.”
“Not at all. She’s an angel. She’s probably one of my best behaved students,” you said.
“Now that’s surprising,” he chuckled.
“Miss Y/L/N,” Ayla called, coming back over with her backpack on her back, “You should come to dinner tomorrow night.”
“I-” you began, in attempt to politely turn her down, when Dr. Reid spoke before you.
“Bunny, you’re going to be at your mom’s tomorrow night,” he said.
Ayla’s reply was simple and to the point.
“I know.”
You felt your eyes widen and your face heat when you realized her insinuation. Dr. Reid looked just as flustered and thrown as you felt.
“Ayla, honey, you know daddy has to work tomorrow. Remember I told you I had to work late?” Spencer stammered, trying to say the entirety of the few sentences.
At that point, you just wished for a hole to open up in your classroom floor and swallow you. If it wasn’t awkward enough that one of your students had basically just asked you out for her own father, then it was definitely the fact that he was trying to backpedal on the “invite” and most likely because he had no interest in you, not that you could blame him.
“Daddy, you told me it’s wrong to tell a lie,” Ayla gave him a look.
You were sure at this point Dr. Reid had turned scarlet from his face all the way down his neck. You felt bad for him, but still felt the awkwardness of the situation.
“You said that when I was at mommy’s house last week. You said this week you wouldn’t have to work late.”
Somehow, this behavior from Ayla didn’t surprise you in the slightest. When she was set on something, she was determined to accomplish it.
He looked up at you, clearly uncomfortable but you spoke before he could, trying to salvage the situation.
“Don’t worry,” you chuckled, “Kids will be kids. Believe me, I know. I have 28 of them for 8 hours, 5 days a week.”
His smile eased a bit and you felt yourself relax a tiny amount.
“I hope you have a good weekend Ayla and I’ll see you Monday,” you said.
You couldn’t help but notice her pouty expression as Dr. Reid took her hand and left your classroom.
You almost had to breathe a sigh of relief after living through that awkward moment.
You had just sat down behind your desk and resumed stapling papers together when you heard your name being called.
“Miss Y/L/N?”
You glanced up, seeing Dr. Reid in the doorway sans Ayla.
“Yes? Did Ayla forget something?”
You stood, ready to head towards her desk to check for a missing folder or a favorite toy.
“Actually, no, I did.”
You gave him a confused look before he began to explain.
“I was- uh I was actually wondering if maybe you’d like to get coffee sometime? With me? Or maybe ice cream or something considering it’s still pretty hot? Hot outside I mean.”
Your stomach quite literally did a flip flop at his cute, nervous, rambling.
Here was a grown man, who worked in the FBI, had a child and could probably rival a Bachelor contestant, yet he managed to adorably stumble over his words as he asked you out.
“Well, I practically live off coffee because of my job,” you said.
“So do I,” he grinned, a small, new found connection between the two of you, discovered.
“But ice cream sounds nice,” you smiled, “Whenever you’re free that is.”
“Tomorrow?”
“Tomorrow sounds fine,” you concluded, “Hold on.”
You turned to grab a sticky note from your desk, jotting something down quickly.
“My number,” you smiled, handing it to him, “Just let me know what time.”
“It’s a date.”
“It’s a date,” you confirmed.
“Oh and for future reference, I’m Spencer.”
“Y/N,” you grinned.
With a smile on his own face, he walked back out of your classroom, presumably to an awaiting Ayla.
You had to hold back your laughter when you heard her next statement all the way from the hallway, clear as day.
“I think I know now why uncle Morgan used to say you got no game.”
It was roughly 2 pm the next afternoon as you stood outside the ice cream parlor that was near the elementary school.
You fidgeted in place nervously, wondering if he was going to show.
His actual asking you on a date was so sudden and abrupt, you’d hardly had time to wrap your head around it.
With one glance down at your outfit, you tried hard not to criticize yourself. You’d changed about six times before finally deciding on a simple, cute, sleeveless sundress in an aqua turquoise color. It would be cool, cute, casual and not trying too hard.
“You look nice and cool.”
You turned to see Spencer approaching you and you smiled, relieved that he actually showed up and it wasn’t just a dream.
“Hot enough for you?” you chuckled.
“Too hot,” he agreed, “Shall we?”
He motioned after him and you walked into the wonderful chilly air of the ice cream parlor. He even held the door open for you; this man was already amazing.
There was only polite small talk while you both ordered; mint chocolate chip in a cone for him, vanilla in a cup with numerous toppings for you.
“Vanilla?” he raised an eyebrow at your choice.
“Only if I’m in the mood for a lot of toppings,” you elaborated.
You’d ordered your ice cream with Oreo pieces, rainbow sprinkles and chopped nuts.
When you both retrieved your orders from the counter, he peeked over at yours.
“There any ice cream under there?” he teased.
“Hush,” you chuckled.
You found a shaded table outside to sit at. Despite the heat, a small breeze occasionally cooled the temperature, making it a bit more bearable.
“So, Y/N.”
“That’s my name,” you smiled.
It was amazing how up until this point, you’d been so nervous for this date, but sitting in front of him, you were much more comfortable.
He took another lick from his cone, a thoughtful expression on his face.
“Why teaching?”
You raised a brow, figuring you’d get in a question of your own too.
“Why the FBI?” you inquired.
He chuckled, appreciating your challenge.
“I’ll answer your question if you answer mine,” he said.
“Well—as the story goes, my parents claim—I came home from my first day of Kindergarten claiming I was going to be a teacher, specifically a kindergarten teacher. I don’t remember this at all,” you laughed, “But apparently it was kismet.”
He watched you intently as you talked, eating his ice cream silently as he hung on to your every word. It was surprising at how nice it made you feel to know he was interested in knowing about you.
“I joined the FBI when I was 22.”
“Wow, that’s really young and impressive,” you said, eyes wide.
“Well to preface this, I was somewhat of a childhood prodigy. I graduated high school at 12 and managed to earn three PhDs by 20, plus two BAs.”
You stared at him open mouthed, your spoon halfway to your mouth, the ice cream on it melting and dripping back into the cup.
He looked embarrassed and a bit uncomfortable. Something told you that while he was proud of his achievements, he wasn’t one that really enjoyed bragging about them.
“That explains the title of Doctor and the robotic memory.”
That seemed to break the spell and his face broke into a grin as he laughed easily at his daughter’s antics.
“That child, I swear. She’s something else.”
“She really is,” you agreed.
There was a lull in conversation and you decided to ask him about what you were wondering from the previous afternoon.
“So...you and your wife are separated or divorced I assume?”
“Oh me and Ayla’s mom have never been together actually.”
“Oh,” you said, surprised.
It wasn’t uncommon for you to deal with divorced, separated or even single parents of your students, but to actually know the circumstances like this was unusual for you.
He nodded.
“I wasn’t in a place for a relationship and neither was her mother, so all we ever had was a physical relationship and Ayla was the result of that. We remained friends and co-parent now. She’s got a lovely fiancé now though that’s great with Ayla. But as messed up and impractical as that relationship was, I wouldn’t change it for anything though because it gave me Ayla and I’ve never regretted her for a moment,” Spencer said.
“She clearly adores you,” you smiled, “You’re a great father too.”
“Thank you,” he smiled shyly, “I try my best. But what about you, anyone special?”
He winced the moment the question left his mouth.
“Well if there was, I wouldn’t be here now would I?”
You could help but tease him, flashing him a joking expression.
“Point taken,” he laughed inwardly, “It didn’t dawn on me how obvious the question was until I said it. I’m sorry, I’m not really good at this dating thing. It’s been a long time since I’ve done it, actually.”
He looked pained, like a teenager on his first date, but you found it extremely endearing.
“Well I think you’re doing just fine,” you reassured him, “Also, no.”
His brow crinkled in confusion.
“No, what?”
“No, there’s no one special in my life. Unless you count 28 five year olds,” you snickered.
Sometime during the conversation, you’d both finished your ice cream. You tossed your trash and returned to the table.
“I’ve got a few hours before I have to pick up Ayla. Would you like to take a walk?” Spencer asked.
“Sure,” you agreed.
The two of you walked side by side, chatting it up about a variety of different things until his tinkering chuckle made you glance up at him, curious to what he found so funny.
“What is it?”
“It just struck me funny,” he said, pausing to look down at you.
You stopped with him, waiting for him to continue.
“Who would’ve thought my five year old daughter could be such an adorable yet successful pint sized Cupid?”
You had to agree as your face broke into your hundredth smile of that afternoon. She had been persistent and it seemed like her persistency had paid off.
He was right though, you’d never in a million years imagined one of your pupils playing matchmaker for you.
But you were glad Ayla had.
How thankful you were to have her in your class.
“She was right, you know,” Spencer said, more serious now.
“About what?”
“You are as pretty as a princess.”
As you two resumed your walking, the smile now permanently plastered on your face, you could’ve sworn you felt his hand brush yours ever so slightly.

i’m really insecure about my face having chubby cheeks, if you’re free can i request for any of the boys with an s/o who has chubby cheeks? anything that can make me feel a bit better about it :( thank you!
Bby I bet you are the most beautiful person! Having chubby cheeks just means less wrinkles. You will be looking youthful forever hun! Also insecurities BE GONE THOT we have all the Pedro boys I could somewhat accurately write!
*Gender Neutral
*ALSO A FEW ARE 18+ SO ONLY FOR MY GIRLS, GAY, THEYS, AND THOTS. NO MINORS.
*ALSO NON OF THESE GIFS ARE MINE, CREDIT GOES TO ARTISTS WHO TOOK THE TIME TO CREATE IT (if you are an artist of these and wish for me to take it down shoot me a message and I will do so ASAP <3)
Din Djarin
Tumblr media
When you bring up to Din your insecurity about your cheeks Din is seriously not going to understand it. He loves your face it’s a big part as to why he pursued you in the first place, he thought you were pretty and that’s HUGE for a guy who was raised to not give a fuck about appearances. He’s going to gently caress your cheeks as he brings your foreheads together to press together into a kelble kiss. He doesn’t really know what to say but he does know what to do to bring some ease to you.
Javier Pena
Tumblr media
‘Honey, what?” your gonna get that exasperated look, y’know the one he threw at Connie when her husband went fucking missing? But unfortunately that was the wrong reaction and thus you burst into tears. Javi scrambles up to reach out to you as he cradles your face in between his neck and shoulders. He’s gonna be able to get you calm pretty damn fast as he comforts you and shows you truly how much he loves your face, especially how it looks when you find your bliss.
Frankie Morales
Tumblr media
He’s going to empathies with you for sure. He gets insecure about his own cheeks thinking they’ve grown more puffy due to age and his habit of having a beer or two. He’s gonna sit down and ask you if you would ever think less of him because of his own puffy cheeks. When you gasp and scold him of how you could and would never. He just gives you a warm smile as you reach up to press a kiss to your temple, whispering “then stop being so mean to yourself.”
Ezra
Tumblr media
He is instantly going to baby you once you bring up your insecurity. Provider and protector mode activated for Ez. He is going to coddle you and bring you into his personal bubble asap, waxing poetry on the spot about your face and your chubby cheeks. He thinks they are down right beautiful and brings you such a lovely quality.
Max Philips
Tumblr media
Max is literally going to hypnotize you. It will be consensual for sure, do not worry but god he just cannot keep hearing you speak so lowly on your face. He honestly gets a little pissy about how down you are about your cheeks. “I LITERALLY call you Dollface! You can’t get anymore perfect than a goddamn doll, Sweetheart!” he does not say that with any malice it’s just that he really does not know what else to do or say to get it through your head that you are FUCKING GORGEOUS DAMMIT.
Pero Tovar
Tumblr media
Excuse me? I’m gonna have to ask you to not speak so poorly of yourself or your husband is literally going to pop a fucking blood vessel. He just does. not. get. it. In his eyes you are perfect, unable to do wrong in any sense of the word and he WILL NOT accept you thinking so lowly of your angelic face. He’s going to seduce you into bed and get you so built up and frustrated that he will not show you mercy with release until you are repeating like a mantra “I’m perfect, I’m perfect, I’m perfect!” with every thrust.
Marcus Pike
Tumblr media
Now why did you have to go and break this man's heart? He is so confused, how could you not see how perfect you are. He was drawn to you in the first place because of your face and that fact that you don’t like a part of it that he kisses ALL THE TIME. He just….bitch(lovingly) what?! He is gonna get you in tears though, this man is an artist not just busting art crime. You are gonna come home one day to Marcus showing you his sketchbook. It’s something he holds really close to himself, always a tad insecure with his own work. And every couple pages there is a portrait study of you and that’s the first time you are able to see how truly beautiful Marcus sees you.
Jack Daniels (Whiskey)
Tumblr media
“Now darlin’ why would you go on ahead and rip out this old cowboy's heart?” Yes your dramatic yeehaw hunnie does not see any humor in the self deprecating joke you just cracked about your cheeks. He is gonna instantly tug you into his space, you resting on his lap as he instantly starts rubbing up and down your thigh as his other hand starts brushing his fingers delicately against your cheeks. He can never keep his hands off you already and the fact you are feeling insecure? Well Jackie-boy here is going to fix that faster than (insert yeehaw metaphor here). He’s gonna get you worked up by whispering dirty things to you going on and on how he loves to finish on your pretty face for a reason, sugar.
Dave York
Tumblr media
He’s literally going to stop and just give you the meanest glare. So much so that you end up bursting into tears because WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK DAVID!? He tends to do that sometimes, puts on a meaner face than intended due to his line of work making him a tad bit more...scary? Eh we always love a bad boy? Bad...suburban dad?? He’s going to usher you to sit down on the couch as he kneels in front of you to match your eye level. His gaze is intense, it always is. “I need you to listen because I really only want this to be a one time conversation. I don’t see what you see because all I see is the person I love, okay? Good.” He’s going to give your ass a squeeze when you both stand up and you give him a hug. He’s not the best with emotions but for you, he tries.

Dream SMP Animal Rescue Center AU
The L’Manburg Animal Rescue Center (LARC) is a well-known institution dedicated to the well-being of all animals known to man. The facility receives animals from all over the world, and has staff fit for any creature that gallops, swims, flies, climbs, or runs into their care. With hundreds of acres of land at its disposal, the Rescue Center is equipped to care for animals that cannot be released back into the wild for as long as they may live. Come and visit with our season pass, or drop by anytime with admission tickets half off for the kids! Anyone 15 or older is welcome to come and volunteer their help towards these wonderful beings!
~
Alright, now that the official canon stuff is done, I’d like to make a few quick notes on pthis AU! First off, this was inspired by Dazenightmare’s Grocery store AU, so go check them out as well! If you have any idea or comments about this piece, the ask box is always open! Anyway, I hope you enjoy, and without further ado, I present my DreamSMP Animal Rescue Center AU!
-Liv💫
(P.s, I’ll be setting things up by showing the character’s official staff introductions first, and then my personal notes on them! This is how most things will be presented!)
~
Our Wonderful Staff!
Listed below is all of our fantastic employees, each with important and essential jobs to keep LARC running smoothly! If you ever need anything, they’ll be happy to help!
~
Even though they all have differing roles and places in the hierarchy, the staff have always been tight-knit friends, almost a family. But, like any family, they definitely have their spats! As I come to think of more stuff I might edit this, but so far the employees are Nihachu, Puffy, Eret, Philza, Fundy, Wilbur, Tommy, Tubbo, Quackity, Techno, Ranboo, Purpled, Ponk, Awesamdude, George, Dream, Sapnap, Bad, Skeppy, Karl, Hbomb, Jack, Jschlatt, Foolish, and Ant. (Official names for introductions are Niki, Cara, Eret, Phil, Floris, Wilbur, Tommy, Toby, Alex, Dave, Ranboo, Grayson, Ponk, Sam, George, Clay, Nick, Darryl, Zak, Karl, Liam, Jack, Johnathan, Noah, and Antfrost,  in the same order as above. These are the real names of most of the characters, I couldn’t do the ones that haven’t done a name reveal. (I didn’t change Wilbur because it just did not feel right) If there’s a character you wanted to see that’s not here I’m sorry, it means I just don’t know enough about them. (I’m so sorry Punz fans, I’ll add him eventually but I’ve never watched him before and don’t want to improperly represent him!) The minors (Ranboo, Tommy, Tubbo, and Purpled) are technically volunteers and not employees, so they’ll be presented separately. I mention the Regulars (regular patrons) a couple times, these include other MCYTs! So keep an eye out for special appearances! Sadly, SBI is not canon in my AU. It just didn’t make much sense to me as I tried to write it, but if you want to interpret them as family you can! (They’re still very close, so they act just like a family even though they’re not related by blood!)
Clay - Clay is the manager of our facility, and has run it for 3 years now! He’s proven to be a capable and fun leader, and you can often find him wandering about with some other staff members! If you ever see him around, don’t be afraid to ask him for anything!
~
Dream - Since Dream is the founder and main leader of the SMP, making him the manager made the most sense! He kinda has two ‘settings’, his official business mode for when he needs to handle serious work, and his more chill mode he presents when he’s just hanging out with everyone. He’s never really pulled the ‘I’m your boss so listen to me blah blah’ thing before, he actually prefers to emphasize that he’s on the same level as anyone else, just with a fancy title. He’s only brought out his manager mode when it comes to his employees a few times before, like when one of Tommy’s pranks went too far, and when George was slacking off just a bit too much. Other than that, he’s a nice guy who considers all of his employees his friends, but he’s often busy with ‘manager things’ as he says.
George - Our trusty head of security, George is responsible for keeping our guests safe! He’s in charge of things like security cameras, patrols, and safety regulations regarding people. He’s often found manning the cameras or patrolling about! If you ever get lost or feel unsafe, he and the other security members are always ready to help!
~
George - He sleeps. A lot. When it says ‘often’ manning the cameras, that means always. Always manning the cameras, and 9 times out of 10 he’s sleeping. He patrols like, once a day for the bare minimum time purely because he has too. The only reason he isn’t fired at this point is because he has uncanny luck. Every time anything comes up that he’s needed in he’s always awake, without fail. Every time a crime (not really crimes more like petty stuff, vandalism and shoplifting from the souvenir stands) happens he always sees it. No one knows how, because he’s always sleeping anytime else. Despite that, he’s a pretty nice guy that everyone gets along with, and does his job good enough to keep people safe.
Nick, Sam, and Cara - Our loyal security guards, who faithfully patrol and protect! It”s their sworn duty to keep animals and people alike safe, and can always be turned to if needed! They can be found rotating between the different wings of the center, and are glad to help with any issue! You can easily identify their signature blue uniforms!
~
Sapnap - Since George is nearly always ‘occupied,’ Sap is usually the one who handles planning patrol routes and shift changes. Although he can definitely be mischievous or a jokester at times, he does take his job seriously. He’s kind to the little kids that visit, and likes to give them tours whenever Ponk and Eret are busy. He’s loved among the regulars, and knows them all by heart. He’s pulled his fair share of pranks (most often with Tommy, Skeppy, and even occasionally Dream to help him) but he takes care to not cause any serious damage. Overall, he’s a prankster, but he loves his job and fellow employees.
Sam -  Although he’s officially a security guard, he’s more like the resident handyman. Whenever there’s a problem with any electrical or plumbing systems (usually the fault of Tubbo, the poor kid breaks everything he touches) Sam usually handles it. He’s reliable, he doesn’t pull jokes like Sapnap does, but he can respect a good one. Despite being rather intimidating at first, Sam is gentle and can often be found helping Ant with the birds or Wilbur with the gazelles. He cares deeply for everyone, especially Tommy, Tubbo, Ranboo, and Purpled, and helps protect people whenever a Karen comes into the picture. He’s the one who helps elderly people cross the busy paths and gives directions to lost tourists.
Puffy - When she was first hired, people wondered why she chose to be a security guard. She was gentle and kind, and tried to avoid any and all conflict. But when a group of teens were spray painting the reptile house, it became obvious. Those kids not only volunteered to clean it themselves, but asked if they could help clean up garbage around the paths while Puffy stood over their shoulders. She’s been famous for her lectures ever since, and can even get Techno and Tommy under her thumb. Her gentle side definitely helps, and because she’s far less intimidating than the other guards, she’s the one who helps lost kids find their parents. She’s confident in herself, and shows it. No one questions her while she’s on patrol, despite being the smallest of the guards, she’s one of the strongest.
Eret and Ponk - Our lovely tour guides, they’re in charge of all the tours around the facility, from the reptile room to the butterfly greenhouse! Whenever you book a tour, one of these two will be in charge! They’re kind and energetic, and can be found with the scheduled tours all over our institute!
~
Eret - Eret is the more comedic of the two, often slipping in sarcastic jokes here and there on the tour. He’s not afraid to hide who he is, and he’s well known among the regulars for wearing extravagant outfits every now and then. Of course you always have the occasional Karen, but the moment one starts to approach him one of the security guards ‘conveniently’ needs his help. Whenever there’s some sort of event like a holiday or birthday, Eret is usually the one who volunteers to plan it. His parties are legendary, everything is always planned to perfection, and always runs smoothly. No one knows how he does it, it’s like he can predict catastrophe before it even happens. Tommy is mildly scared of him because not one of his pranks has worked on him, he always manages to get out of it (While looking fabulous, of course!) Despite his sarcasm and nonchalant behavior, he loves his job and ‘family’ he’s found!
Ponk - Definitely the more energetic of the two, he never seems to run out of stamina when he gives tours. He’s popular with the little kids because he gives out little stickers at the end of the tour, most often custom ones of all the famous animals. Whenever he’s off duty, he has a game he plays where he mixes all of the vending machine drinks together and sees who’s brave enough to try it. Sam is usually the victim, he has a hard time saying no to him! He’s been known to join in the occasional prank here and there, but never anything crazy (Like the famous Tiger incident, Tommy got suspended for a month after that…) He really cares about all his friends, and always comes into work with a smile!
Zak and Darryl - Responsible for running the various shops around our rescue center, these two are dedicated workers who can always be relied on! They’re always willing to lend a hand, and can be found at their respective stores! Don’t be afraid to say hi or ask for help!
~
Skeppy - Most definitely cannot be always relied on. I mean, he’s Skeppy, what do you expect? Whenever he’s on duty he’s responsible enough, but when off duty he’s even more of a trouble maker than Tommy! His stand isn’t usually as busy as BBH’s, so he has a lot of free time to goof off. He uses most of that time to plan pranks or tease BBH, much to his annoyance. Despite Skeppy always teasing him, he considers BBH his closest friend and would do anything for him. He’s faced his fair share of consequences and punishment, but he’s always managed to weasel his way out. He’s crafty and a troublemaker, but he’s also a good friend and a loyal worker when it counts.
BBH -  One of the most loved members of staff, he gets along with everyone he meets. He’s kind beyond measure, and never hesitates to help. Pretty much the opposite of Skeppy, who often annoys everyone. But opposites attract, maybe that’s why they get along so well! Whenever Sapnap and George are busy, Dream usually turns to BBH for help and advice. Since the stands aren’t busy all that often, BBH usually helps out wherever he’s needed, he especially loves helping Wilbur with the butterflies. Like Sapnap, he also gets along great with the little kids, who love to hang out with him! Because of Dream’s soft spot for him, he managed to get permission to bring his dog, Rat, into work to ‘help’ him at his stand.
Alex - Alex is our responsible janitor and handyman, always ready for anything that could happen! He’s hardworking and kind, with a good sense of humor! You’ll find him wherever he’s needed, always willing to help!
~
Quackity - Like I said, Sam is more of the resident handyman, so Quackity usually handles the cleaning. He tried to fix wiring on the meat freezer one time because Sam was busy, but it did not… end well… he somehow flooded the whole room. The introduction isn’t entirely wrong, he is responsible and hardworking, but he’s not exactly ready for anything that could happen. It’s not his fault, it just seems that no matter how much he prepares some new problem he’s never dealt with before comes up. Like when the peacocks escaped, or the infamous Tiger incident. (When he saw the destruction that caused he just dropped his mop and said “I’m taking my vacation time now, fuck this”) He still has his sense of humor though, he enjoys yelling at Karens in Spanish to scare them off. He’s yelling about the weather, but they can’t tell the difference.
Karl - Our fantastic admission worker, he’s the first face you see when you walk in! He’s in charge of admitting all of our guests, and to answer any questions you have before entering! He can be found at his booth helping anyone and everyone!
~
Karl - Still had his signature good attitude and positive outlook, he’s probably the most willing to help people. Since he’s the only admission booth worker (Schlatt occasionally takes over, but he’s usually busy with his own stuff) he doesn’t get much break time in the busy season, but when he does he usually spends it with his friends. He’s goofy and kind, with a giggle that quickly got him loved by the regulars and everyone else he meets. On the slower days, usually in winter when the tourists aren’t around, he likes to sit everyone down in the break room and tell grand stories about different points in history. These tales quickly became enjoyed by even the most reluctant members, much to his suprise. He’s a very skilled storyteller, but he’s also very humble and insists he’s mediocre. He’s a great guy and loved by everyone around him, the perfect first face to see when you enter LARC. Recently, however, people often catch him stealing glances at two certain individuals throughout the day…
Johnathan - Our loyal help desk worker, he’s here for any issues you may have during your time at LARC. He’s here for anything you need, from booking tours to answering questions. Johnathan is in charge of making sure your stay runs smoothly and is as enjoyable as possible! You can find him at his desk all throughout the day!
~
Jschlatt - I have no actual reason for why he has this job I just thought it would be funny. Out of all the members of the rescue center, he’s the one who’s mastered the customer service smile and voice the most. He’s kind of had to, considering what his job is. Surprisingly, it isn’t as hellish as it would seem. Most of the time it’s just people booking tours or asking simple questions, which doesn’t require that much interaction. Dealing with Karens is a rare occurrence, but not unheard of. He just hits them with the “Lady, I am not paid enough to deal with this. Either go talk to the manager or ask Karl for a refund, now at least move aside so I can do my damn job.” He has a lot of free time because of this, but he’s not allowed to leave his post so he just plays Solitare on his computer and chats with whoever’s nearby. Even though he’s sarcastic and reluctant, he is a good worker and gets the job done. He rarely shows it, if at all, but he does care for all of his fellow workers and enjoys his job because he gets to be around them.
Phil and Liam - Our specialized veterinarians are equipped for any animal that needs their care, from elephants to bats, scorpions to dolphins. They’re both capable and experienced, and can be found wherever they’re needed to do their jobs!
~
Philza - Definitely a capable vet, he’s probably people’s first choice when they need help. He’s worked at a few other places before LARC, but he insists that this is his permanent job until he retires. Although he tends to focus purely on work when on the clock, when he’s off duty he opens up a lot more. He enjoys out with everyone in the break room, most of all Wilbur, Tommy, Techno, and Ranboo. Sometimes his wife comes in to volunteer for a day, much to everyone’s enjoyment. Since Phil is the resident dad, she was named the official mom of LARC and was given a very fancy cardboard crown. Despite his reluctant behavior on the surface, he can be passionate at times… rarely. Very rarely. He once chugged one of Ponk’s concoctions from hell and walked away unscathed, mumbling “I drink more caffeine on my good days, try again with an extra 10 energy drinks mate.” Ponk has practically worshipped him since, no one had ever been able to take any of his drinks before Phil. Overall he’s a good natured guy who loves both animals and people, but tends to avoid the public paths because it’s so crowded.
Hbomb - More of Phil’s understudy than an official vet, he’s still learning quite a bit. That doesn’t mean he’s not capable, he’s great when he’s working on animals he’s familiar with or illnesses he’s dealt with dozens of times before. This is his first job as a veterinarian, and he found it quite overwhelming at first. Despite this, he quickly won over his fellow staff with his charm and humor. When asked who his best friend is, he jokingly answers “Fundy!” While Fundy violently shakes his head no in the background. He’s relatively carefree, but he can absolutely get serious when his skills are needed. He’s fine with not being the go-to guy to help with the animals, he’s content with helping Phil whenever he’s needed and sticking to the sidelines.
Niki - Our lovely Marine Biologist, she keeps the aquarium and other aquatic exhibits running smoothly. She’s an expert in her field, and we can go about our days knowing she has everything under control! She can be found most often in the aquarium, but keep an eye out for her around other exhibits!
~
Nihachu - Because the aquatic exhibits are the smallest and have the least amount of animals, Niki can usually run it smoothly. She’s passionate about her job, and has loved animals since she was very little. She originally joined LARC purely for experience, but as time went on she just… never left. She has no plans to either, she loves the strange family she’s found, and the constant flow of new animals keeps her on her toes when it comes to her passion. She never really wanted fame or riches from Marine Biology, she chose to do it because of her love for zoology. On her off time she usually hangs out with Puffy or Wilbur, since their jobs place them near her area. She’s a lovable and soft spoken, but can be serious when needed. She more than pulls her weight in LARC, and has proved herself many times over.
Dave - A spectacular zoologist who specializes in predators and their behavior, Dave handles even the most deadly of animals with calm mannership. He has experience with every apex predator, and treats every animal he cares for kindly. He may seem unapproachable, but he’s willing to help anyone who needs it. He can be found all around LARC, but most often by the big predators.
~
Technoblade - He has proved the statement “Technoblade never dies” many times over. Many. Times. Over. He’s faced bears head-on with no safety equipment (which is not good, please use safety equipment when around wild animals) and come out unscathed. All of the permanent predators at LARC that can’t be released have acknowledged him as an equal, and accepted him into their hierarchy. Even the most aggressive of the big cats hold respect for him, but not through fear. Techno refuses to ever, ever use fear as a tactic to win over animals. He claims it’s not right to rule over other beings through fear, especially such regal ones. He takes his job very seriously, and hates his interactions with animals interrupted. (Tommy did it once and he swears to never do it again.) He’s very skilled, but he often gets put aside when the inspector comes around every 6 months because of his refusal to use required equipment. He may still be as serious and no-nonsense as ever, but he holds his friends close. He doesn’t like to be in the public eye, so he stays as behind the scenes as possible. Like Jschaltt, he doesn’t show it much, but he cares for everyone in LARC.
Wilbur - The counterpart to Dave, Wilbur is our herbivore specialist at LARC! He’s responsible for the majority of the herbivores in our institute, from gazelles to horses! You can find him all around our facility, and if you’re lucky you might catch him feeding the animals!
~
Wilbur - He’s the opposite of Techno in a lot of ways besides just his job. Will actually likes to be in front of a crowd when doing his job, and even got Dream to add an official feeding time for the popular animals so people could come see. His intentions aren’t vanity though, he just likes seeing how happy it makes everyone. Because he cares for the majority of the animals at LARC, he can often be found with Phil and the other animal caretakers. He’s especially close to Phil and Tommy though, and Tommy often finds ways to change his schedule to be closer to him. (Tubbo usually follows Tommy, and then Ranboo follows Tubbo, it’s a whole chain reaction.) On his off time he occasionally causes mischief with other staff, but he’s chill most of the time. He cares a lot about all of the animals he cares for, and makes sure to form a bond with each and every one. Every now and then he brings his guitar to work, and can be found quietly strumming it and humming along in secluded places. Sometimes he even plays it in front of the animals, much to their confused enjoyment. He might be carefree most of the time, but he takes his work seriously and has a close bond with everyone at LARC.
Floris - Floris is our resident field specialist, here to use his experience to help wherever he can! He’s often one of the first to see new animals or release old ones, and always does it with a smile on his face! You don’t see him as often as the other animal caretakers, but he can be found throughout LARC!
~
Fundy - He’s been all over the globe since he graduated, since he got to study under a rather eccentric zoologist. No one knows why he decided to work at LARC and not somewhere more recognized, but they’re not complaining. Whenever he’s on break, he likes to retail all of his adventures in a dramatic manner, but no one knows if they’re true stories or not. Sometimes he shows proof of his escapades, but most of the time he leaves it up to everyone to decide for themselves. But whether his stories are true or not, he definitely has the experience of someone who’s travelled the world. No matter the animal, he seems to know how to predict their behavior perfectly. He’s as excitable and loud as ever, but he loves his job and all the creatures he’s gotten to work with. Oftentimes he’s in charge of keeping tabs on animal behavior, so he’s the first to note when something changes or goes wrong. He has journals full of notes on different animals, both from LARC and his time traveling. He’s definitely passionate and dramatic, but he’s also a good guy that just wants to help animals.
Antfrost - A fantastic mammalogist, he’s been at LARC for a few years now and has proven himself as a great scientist. He knows how to deal with a variety of mammals, from the tiniest bumblebee bats to the biggest elephants! If you ever have any questions, feel free to ask him!
~
Ant - Like Niki, this is his first real job in zoology. He was out in the field for about a year and a half, but he was basically an errand boy for the bigger names he was working with. That’s not to say he’s not skilled though, he’s fantastic at what he does. He often asks Fundy for his notes on the various animals to get to know them better himself, and has read the majority of his journals. He was timid around everyone at first, but he gradually got close to his fellow staff. It was the same when it came to big animals, Wilbur had to help him during his first time with the elephants, giraffes, and other large mammals. But soon he got used to them, and now he spends most of his time with animals. He has no plans to leave LARC, he’s found that this job is more than enough to keep him busy and happy. He’s a bit shy, but when he opens up he enjoys being around everyone.
Jack and Noah - These two, although not often seen, and essential for keeping everything running like a well-oiled machine! From lending a hand wherever it’s needed to helping prepare food, Jack and Noah work tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure everything is a-ok! If you ever do spot them, they’re ready to help with whatever you need!
~
Jack - The more experienced of the two, he’s been working at LARC for a long time now. He can be mischievous at times, but he’s responsible and knows his job is important. He struggles a bit to be close to everyone, despite the fact he’s been at LARC for a long time. He’s acquainted with most of the staff, but he’s not sure if he can really call anyone a close friend. He does have a good relationship with Tommy and Niki, but they always have so much going on and often overlook Jack. He grins and bears it though, keeping his loud and comedic attitude. He’s often all business and work, but there are times he wishes he could just be friends with everyone, and envies the very social members of staff like Quackity and Tommy. He may be a bit distant from everyone, but he still gets along with them… at least that’s what he always tells himself. He’s a bit stubborn, but overall a good guy who’s willing to help
Foolish - Foolish has only been working at LARC for a few months now, but he’s already made quite a few friends, both animal and human. When he’s working he tends to stick to himself, but when on break he enjoys hanging out with others and having casual conversation. He actually has a little corner of the break room for his hobby, making mini-models! He’s very good at it too, he has an intricate Egyptian setup that everyone likes to ogle at every now and then! Every so often he stays after for a bit to work on them, and no one has the heart to disturb him when he gets into it. He spends a lot of time with the animals, especially the aquatic ones. He seems to be drawn to the aquarium, and he’s often caught staring at the ocean tank. He’s positive and high energy most of the time, but he’s not to be underestimated.
Our Volunteers!
Volunteering is open for anyone interested in working at LARC non-officially, as long as you follow our rules and are 15 or older! Our current volunteers are
Toby
Tommy
Grayson
Ranboo
This is subject to change at any time! If you’re interested in signing up to be a volunteer, contact us either through our official website or our in-person help desk!
Volunteers aren’t allowed to be up close to any of the large or dangerous animals for their own safety!
We hope to see new volunteers soon!
Tubbo - He breaks. Everything he touches. Much to Quackity’s dismay, who’s often stuck cleaning it up. He doesn’t mean to break things, he just… does. Despite being quiet and even shy at times, Tubbo is without a doubt the most chaotic person in the entirety of LARC. He doesn’t pull off jokes or pranks like Tommy and Skeppy, he just subtly radiates chaos wherever he goes. He and Tommy are in charge of helping the westward wing (The area with the Africa, North America, and Insect House exhibits, as far away from the Aquarium as possible because Tubbo will break everything) and occasionally the Reptile House. A volunteer’s work isn’t exactly exciting, they mainly cut up and prepare food and do whatever Jack and Foolish are too busy to. Tubbo doesn’t really mind though, he finds the work rewarding and even fun at times. Even when the food he has to prepare is especially gross, some time helping Wilbur with the beehives always makes him happy.
Tommy - Oh man, Tommy… what problems hasn’t he caused? It seems that everywhere he goes he can manage to cause trouble, often roping Tubbo and Wilbur into it. It’s a miracle he hasn’t been fired yet (can you fire a volunteer? I don’t know) despite everything he’s done. He did get suspended for a long time after the Tiger Incident, but that’s the worst punishment he’s faced. He’s also not allowed to be near any of the people that come to LARC because last time he went “Vlogging” and scared away multiple guests. That was Jschaltt’s busiest day and he still has not forgiven him for it. He’s often stuck behind the scenes with Tubbo preparing food, but every now and then Wilbur, or even Techno if he’s lucky, lets him help feed the animals. When he’s off duty he can be found pestering Wilbur, Phil, and Techno or getting yelled at by Dream for causing problems. Despite being nothing but a troublemaker, everyone around him can’t help but have a soft spot for him. And on rare occasions, you can catch him leaving gifts for people to show his thanks for dealing with him.
Purpled - Probably the most laid back of the Volunteers, he’s actually allowed within 40 feet of the Tiger enclosure. (Although he has been known to solve problems by chasing people with a foam sword and yelling “Bedwars!!”) Since Tommy and Tubbo are usually on food duty, Purpled’s the one who delivers stuff to various places around LARC. This results in two things, no one ever being able to find him when they need him and him randomly appearing behind people when they least expect it. Seriously, he’ll just appear out of thin air to scare the shit out of you 5 minutes after you need him. He doesn’t even try to do it, he just… does, somehow. He’s a good worker though, and doesn’t complain much. He somehow managed to convince Dream to get an Xbox for the break room, and every break he gets he challenges random members of staff to a game of bedwars. He beat almost everyone without a hitch, except Technoblade. Currently they’re tied at 38 wins each, and Ranboo brought in a whiteboard to keep track. He may be a bit reluctant, but he likes LARC and can’t see himself leaving anytime soon.
Ranboo - Probably the most shy of the Volunteers, he tends to keep to the background and avoids the big, public areas. Because he’s the gentlest (and the most trustworthy) of the helping staff, he’s usually the one who gets the jobs involving animals. This usually includes helping Niki give the ducklings baths and feeding the deer with Wilbur, but like it says he’s not allowed near any potentially dangerous animals. He’s the tallest person at LARC (but by far the kindest) which results in him often scaring the animals at first, much to his dismay. Because he’s also on the taller side, Wilbur taught him a few tricks to seem less intimidating, which helped greatly. When he does open up a bit (usually around Tommy and Tubbo) he can be a bit mischievous and chaotic, but he knows when to stop. He hopes to become an official member of LARC one day, but for now he’s content with being just a volunteer.
Remember, LARC always welcomes guests, new or returning! We hope to see you soon!
Thank you guys so much for reading, this AU took me waaayyyyyy too long to write, and I’m psyched to finally have it done! I’d be super happy to answer any asks you guys leave, or any questions you have in the comments! Again, thank you so much, and I hope you enjoyed!

not moving on, not looking back // javid (ch. 10)
A/N: y’all know the drill
TW: discussion of abuse (physical and substance related)
Read On AO3!
And that’s how it starts.
They stop at David’s beforehand so he can change out of his slacks, shirt, and tie, and if David purposefully wears an outfit to elicit a certain response from Jack, he plays it off pretty well. He had changed into a tight white t-shirt and a pair of jeans that fit in all the right places, hidden under a baggy hoodie that he didn't take off until he was safe within the walls of Jack’s home. It feels… empty, now that Katherine isn’t there to fill the space with her voice, her presence.
It’ll be an adjustment, but as long as Katherine and Jack are okay with it, then David will follow their lead.
David sits alone on his phone while Jack goes upstairs and changes. He scrolls through twitter for a while, until he hears footsteps and-- oh, holy shit. Jack walks into view wearing a black sleeveless muscle shirt and gray sweats, and his hair looks so deliciously messy from combing the gel out. He’d clearly gone for the more comfortable look, and David has to stop himself from staring.
“You want anything to drink?” Jack asks as he walks into the kitchen, which prompts David to stand and follow him. Jack grabs a beer from the fridge, offering a second to David.
“Hey, I know we kind of talked already, but… How are you? Like, really?” David asks as Jack takes a drink.
Jack takes in a deep breath and shrugs as he hops onto the island in the middle of the kitchen, swinging his feet. He looks up at David, who has positioned himself to lean against the counter about two feet in front of Jack. “It… It tore me up for a while last night, after she told me, but honestly? I feel a lot better. Like a weight’s been lifted. I had a bad panic attack, but we talked more last night than we’ve talked to each other in ages, and I… I feel like I got my best friend back, y’know? I didn’t get a lot of sleep, though, just… because it’s makin’ me think about stuff I ain’t never thought about before.”
“Like what?” David asks softly, tilting his head before taking a sip of the beer. “Not that- I mean, you don’t have to tell me, but maybe I can help a little. I don’t mind.”
“It’s just… Family stuff,” Jack admits, then rubs his forehead. “We told my Ma last night and she was, y’know, a bit disappointed, but she understood. I just… The whole divorce thing makes me feel like my dad,” Jack explains softly, crossing his arms over his chest. For someone who is nearing thirty, Jack looks like a vulnerable teenager right then. He slowly looks up into David’s eyes, gulping. “He always said he regretted not getting a divorce. He wasn’t a good guy at all. Homophobic, real republican, but my mom married him because he had a good job and a good family. He was the one to kinda push the whole football thing on me, but I was never good at playin’, y’know? Loved the game, but I didn’t have any skill, trust me," Jack says with a chuckle, shaking his head.
“Did they get a divorce? Your parents?”
“No, my, uh… My mama died before anything was finalized, and everything kinda took a turn. I got… I don’t know. I was really fucked up for a long time. The school counselor suggested that I start drawing my feelings or starting a journal or something, and it worked. Really well, actually. I loved it.”
“Is that what got you into art? Kath mentioned that you wanted to go to art school,” David murmurs, moving to lean against the island, right next to Jack’s leg.
“Yeah, actually,” Jack says with a laugh, then gulps. “My dad wasn’t a fan of me doing the art stuff. I took an art class in middle school, and we had a showcase at the end of the year. I invited him to it, and he-- Do you, uh, do you mind if I talk about this? I don’t wanna force, like, heavy shit on you if you aren’t comfortable,” Jack cuts himself off, looking at David with a gulp. “I’ve only ever told my ma and Kath about this. My dad just… wasn’t a nice guy.”
“Thanks for checking in, but I don’t mind, okay? I’ll tell you if I’m ever not in the right headspace, but, Jack, you’re going through a lot. Just let it out,” David encourages with a sad grin.
Jack nods, then takes in a deep breath. “So-- Art show. Dad said he wasn’t gonna come. Told me he wasn’t gonna support me doing something ‘queer’, even though I’m- even though I told him I wasn’t,” Jack explains, taking a long drink from his bottle with a blank expression on his face. “But, uh, he didn’t believe me when I told him I wasn’t, and he… slapped me. That was when I was eleven. The physical stuff continued, ‘specially when football season started up again and he saw that I was on the bench every game, ‘cause I really wasn’t good at it. It got… rough. It only stopped when my coach noticed a bruise when we were practicing and I- I guess I was real stiff and limping real hard, so he told me to sit out, and when I took my pads off, my shirt lifted up, and… My dad was in police custody the next morning.”
“Fuck, Jack,” David says in an apologetic voice, staring at him with a lump in his throat. “I’m so sorry you went through that… Did he go to prison, or--”
“Yeah, there was a bunch of evidence, so- so he went to prison. Really easy case against him. He was supposed to get, um, ten years, I think. The last time I saw him, he told me that he was glad my mom was dead so she didn’t have to see me 'turn gay’- like I said, he was a shitty guy. That… I don’t know. I used to be like that, too, but then one of my friends, a coworker of mine, came out, like… eight years ago?” Jack bites his lip, looking down at his hands after putting his bottle down. “I’ve changed. I realized that I was just actin’ like him. I never realized he was so… bad, until I became an adult.”
“Are you still…” David gulps. “You haven’t talked to your father?”
Jack looks up at David, and smiles sadly. “He had a heart attack in prison, about five years in. So… yeah. I’m all that’s left.”
David is at a loss for words. He doesn’t know what to say. This is not how he thought the night would go, but at least Jack was getting to vent and David was getting to know him on an even more personal level but, good God, Jack had been through so much.
And adding being adopted, losing his daughter, and divorcing his wife into the mix…
Jack has hurt more in his life than he ever let on.
“Jack, I… I don’t know what to say,” David admits with a frown, but slowly reaches out, placing a hand on Jack’s shoulder. “Thank you for telling me all of that. You… You’re so strong, y’know? You’ve been through so much, yet you’re successful and smart and… I know we haven’t known each other long, but I am so, so proud of you. But- but you shouldn't have had to be so strong. You didn't deserve any of that. Not the… Not the abuse, or the homophobia, or the pressure. If you ever need to talk about it again, I’m just a phone call away.”
“Thank you, Davey, that means a lot,” Jack says with a tight-lipped grin, then gulps. “What about you? You got any skeletons in your closet? 'S only fair that you tell me somethin' sad now, y'know.”
David stares at him for a moment. He then holds up one finger and downs the rest of the beer in his bottle, taking in a deep breath once he is done. His eyes close and he tilts his head back, then begins speaking. “From the age of twenty-two to about a month and a half ago, I was addicted to cocaine. I had a brief stint in which heroin was a daily thing, but that stopped after a few months. Too expensive. I regularly had sex with drug dealers in exchange for pills, I’ve been kicked out of gay bars for showing up high out of my mind, I now go to Narcotics Anonymous meetings, and I have to spend, like, ten minutes every morning trying to convince myself not to call in sick just because I’m having bad withdrawals. Bad as in, like, shaking in the shower and crying because I feel like I need to shoot up.” He slowly opens one eye, shooting a sad grin toward Jack. “I guess we’re even, huh?”
Jack stares at him for a few moments, then lets out a laugh as he nods along. “I- I guess you can say that, yeah,” He murmurs, then looks at David with a gulp. “If you ever need anything, just let me know, ‘kay? I don’t… I don’t really have experience with that kind of stuff, but if you ever need anything, I’m here, whether you need to talk, or you… need somewhere to stay,” Jack says slowly, seriously, and David nods. “I’m right here, Dave. Just like you're here for me.”
“Thank you, Jack. I’ve been getting better, I think- the, uh, withdrawals are starting to mellow out, at least a little bit, but it’s just… getting used to sobriety that’s throwing me for a loop,” David admits. He watches Jack’s eyes shift from his face to the empty bottle in his hand, and David shakes his head. “I know what you’re thinking-- I never had an alcohol problem, it was just the drugs. I, uh, don’t drink often, though. Just to make sure.”
David doesn’t drink often because David has an addictive personality. David doesn’t drink often because David knows he’s susceptible to alcoholism if he goes down the wrong path.
It makes him feel better to know that Jack is watching out for him in that way, though.
“If you’re sure,” Jack responds with a kind smile. The two of them fall into a comfortable silence. Jack finishes his beer, David watches him, and everything is… calm.
But not for long.
“Dave? Can I ask you a kind of weird question?”
“Shoot.”
“How’d ya know you were gay?”
David’s eyes widen a bit. He wasn’t expecting... that. He looks up, but Jack refuses to meet his eyes. He’s instead staring at the cabinet above the sink, sitting eerily still, and David isn’t sure how to respond for a few moments. Slowly, David shrugs, and looks down at his hands. “I just never really found an interest in women. Plus, I used to be really into this guy in one of my classes… I don’t know, it was just kind of natural for me. My parents were religious, but they never really said anything about it if I brought guys home for dinner, or if I wore makeup to school. I never really had that… epiphany, I just… I was just gay. Never questioned it,” He explains, holding his breath in the heavy silence that follows. He slowly glances back up toward Jack, expecting to see him staring off into space, but to his surprise Jack is staring right back at him. “Can I ask why you’re asking?”
Jack gulps. There’s a long moment of silence, before he sits up a little straighter. “Kath has been talking about 'self exploration' ever since yesterday. Mentioned she’s, uh… curious.”
“Mhm.”
Jack meets David’s eyes. He stares for a few moments before locking his lips, straightening his posture, and saying, “I think I might be, too.”
There’s a beat of silence. David holds his breath. Holds Jack’s gaze. He waits for a few moments, waiting for Jack to back down, but it never comes. Finally, David gives in.
He asks, breathless, “Wanna find out?”
There’s no more speaking after that.

Falling For Red Masterlist
This Months Writing
“What are you doing with your life Red” I muttered to myself as I put the final touch to my hair. The person in the mirror wasn’t me, I didn’t wear fancy gowns, socialise and go to galas, but here I was getting ready to spend the night with the devil himself. At least I had my trusty knife, sitting flush against my thigh.
“Holy fuck” Axel breathed as he walked into the room, making eye contact with me through the mirror “you look phenomenal”
Something had changed in me, ever since Jacob called me a slut. He was right, I was playing two guys off against each other for pleasure and had already caused them to fight. I couldn’t help but flinch as Axel planted his hands on my hips.
“Axel, stop” I sighed “we can’t do this anymore”
“What do you mean Princess?” He asked, holding eye contact.
“Us, whatever us is. We need to stop” I said breaking eye contact. “I can’t do it anymore”
“It’s Blade isn’t it” he snapped.
“Axel shut the fuck up you are acting like I have cheated on you” I sneered.
“Something has changed” Axel stated folding his arms across his chest “ever since you started working this case for this Knox guy, what’s up Princess you falling for him?”
“The guy is a tosser so no chance” I dryly laughed.
“Whatever” Axel spat “don’t come crying to me when you get your heart broken”
I watched as he stormed out of the room, I knew he wouldn’t take it lightly but this was next level. As I slipped my feet into the heels Blade walked into the room.
“Everything okay babygirl?” He asked sitting next on the bed, placing his hand on my thigh.
“I’m gonna tell you the same thing I just told Axel” I said harshly, I honestly didn’t care anymore “the sex is over, I’m done”
“I knew this would happen, since you started spending more time with Grayson” Blade huffed.
“Why does everyone think it’s because of him” I spat “maybe I’m sick of you and Axel making your snide remarks, constantly having a dick measuring contest”
“Angel wait” Blade sighed as the sound of a car horn was heard.
“No Blade I’ve got to go” I growled “to spend the night with another alpha-hole. I must have seriously pissed the devil off because he is making my life hell”
Tumblr media
“Name?” The stuck up security guy said eyeing me up.
“Red” I said with a flirty smile.
“Sorry sweetheart you aren’t on the list” he smirked.
“You have to be fucking kidding me kidding me” I gasped “I was invited”
“Well you aren’t on my list” the guy shrugged “so stop trying to get in places you don’t belong”
I lost it, my arm went against the guy's throat, slamming him against the wall.
“Trust me I was invited by Grayson himself” I growled. “Now let me in before I take my goddamn knife and ram it down your throat”
“Boss we got a problem out front” the other security guy said into his ear piece “yeah some redhead saying you invited her, she currently has Dave pinned to the wall”
“You gonna be in shit now lady” this Dave guy laughed the best he could.
“We shall see” I smirked.
The moment Grayson’s eyes landed on me “Red” Grayson sternly as he leant against the door frame. “Leave Dave alone”
“And if I don’t, what are you gonna do?” I smirked, raising a brow at him.
“Wouldn’t you like to know Princess?” he winked, taking a step closer, placing his hand on the small of my back. “Now come on, can’t have you causing a scene the first time you come to my house”
“Spoilsport” I huffed, with a fake pout, as I dropped my arm, letting Grayson guide me. “Told you I was with Gray”
“You look” He whispered, brushing his lips against my ear “absolutely breathtaking Princess”
I couldn’t think straight with him being so close, with his hand so close to my ass. The smell of leather intertwined with hints of vanilla and subtle tones of lavender completely intoxicated me, the heat from his breath caused the hairs on my neck to stand, the shockwaves I was currently experiencing was like nothing I had ever felt and in that one moment I forgot how much I despised the guy.
“What’s up Princess?” He breathed against my skin. “I’ve never seen you speechless before”
“Stop being an ass” I snapped, pulling myself out of the trance “such a alpha-hole”
“I’m sorry what?” He chuckled.
“You heard me” I said narrowing my eyes “now are you going to get me a drink or is your plan to let me die of thristation”
“Come on then drama queen” he winked, guiding me through the crowd. “I also want you to meet a few people”
Within a few moments I had a glass of wine in my hand and was in conversation with an older version of Grayson and another female.
“Red, this is my father Theodore and my sister Harper” Grayson smiled, his hand still firmly planted on the small of my back.
“It’s nice to finally meet the mysterious Red, he keeps banging on about” Harper smirked.
“Hope it’s all been good” i laughed feeling very much at ease “in fact who am I kidding I don’t really care because he is a massive pain in my ass”
“Trust me he is the biggest pain in the ass so I feel for you girl” she winked.
Hours had gone by and I was actually enjoying myself which was a surprise. Tonight I was seeing Grayson in a completely different light. He was carefree, relaxed, at ease. It made me want to get to know him more. I was mid conversation with Harper when I felt Grayson’s touch on my back, making me shudder and a proud smirk appeared on Grayson’s lips.
“Hope you aren’t causing too much trouble” he whispered with his chest pressed against my back
“Me trouble” I scoffed “you must be thinking of someone else”
“Well I’m going to leave you two love birds alone” Harper smirked before she disappeared into the crowd.
“Come dance with me Princess” he whispered against my skin.
“You dance?” I laughed spinning around so I was facing him.
“There is a lot I do that you don’t know about” he smirked wrapping his arms around my waist. “Maybe if you got to know me, maybe just maybe you wouldn’t hate me”
“Maybe there’s more to me than you think as well” I whispered, placing my hands on his solid chest, a smirk playing on my lips as I got lost in his blue eyes as he guided me to the makeshift dance floor . “You just need to get to know me”
“Maybe I want to get to know you Gray” I whispered wrapping my arms around his neck as he pulled me close to him which I didn’t think was possible.
“I’m sensing there is a whole other side to you as well” he whispered as we gently swayed to the music.
“It’s a side that no one sees” I whispered resting my head on his chest.
“I guess you don’t trust many people?” He asked.
“No” I sighed looking up, looking into his eyes. Why was I letting someone I barely know the chance to chip away at the walls I spent so many years building. “I don’t tend to let assholes in”
“Maybe you just need to find the right type of asshole” he smirked “one that wants to get to know the real Red”

18) “We all had our connections, but it’s not the details themselves that matter, it’s the feeling behind them. There are a million coming-of-age tales. Lady Bird’s secret sauce is how deeply its creator gave a shit. The older I get, the less I care about anything but the sense of a filmmaker’s personal connection to the material. It doesn’t matter what it’s about, what genre it is, or whether it’s genre at all. I only really care that it feels like something the filmmaker had to tell me, and that it was that filmmaker in particular who had to tell it. It has to answer the ‘why are you telling me this’ question, and not just why are you telling me, but why are you telling me.
Lady Bird is a movie that feels like only Greta Gerwig could’ve made. And it’s only because it’s so specific to her that it can be so meaningful to so many people.” - Vince Mancini
19) "I have cast some lonely votes, fought some lonely fights, mounted some lonely campaigns. But I do not feel lonely now.” - Bernie Sanders

It yanks you out of your body and your mind and throws you against the wall. I have the feeling that drinking is a form of suicide where you're allowed to return to life and begin all over the next day. It's like killing yourself, and then you're reborn. I guess I've lived about ten or fifteen thousand lives now.” - Charles Bukowski
22) “You shouldn’t have to hear a band to know if they’re good or not” - Josiah Hughes
23) “I was raised by OGs.  Some of you were raised by IG.  I understand.” - Ice-T

24) “There are decades where nothing happens, and there are weeks where decades happen.” - Vladimir Lenin
25) "Taken together, this is a massive failure in leadership that stems from a massive defect in character. Trump is such a habitual liar that he is incapable of being honest, even when being honest would serve his interests. He is so impulsive, shortsighted, and undisciplined that he is unable to plan or even think beyond the moment. He is such a divisive and polarizing figure that he long ago lost the ability to unite the nation under any circumstances and for any cause. And he is so narcissistic and unreflective that he is completely incapable of learning from his mistakes. The president’s disordered personality makes him as ill-equipped to deal with a crisis as any president has ever been. With few exceptions, what Trump has said is not just useless; it is downright injurious." - Peter Wehner
26) "Epidemics have a way of revealing underlying truths about the societies they impact." - Anne Applebaum

31) “Our Father, which art in heaven… / Let him fucking stay there” - Deadwood: The Movie
32) “It’s like a power outage, but we still have power” - Ryen Russillo, on the pandemic
33) “Whenever Sox baseball returns, it’ll be weird to not have Farmer on the call any more. The relationship between a fan and longtime announcer is always built in the little moments. One afternoon, he’s the soundtrack as you clean the garage. On another night, he’s your bookmark for the game as you stand in line for churros or walk down the ramps at Sox Park to try for better seats in the 100 level. A voice like Farmer’s becomes so familiar that you only really notice when it’s no longer there.” - Kevin Kaduk, on the passing of Ed Farmer

Nate and Dave Ch. 13
Didn’t take long for us to leave the shopping street. We did take a few pictures together, mostly for storing. Dave is pretty photogenic and looks great in all of them (He even wanted to take his tank top off for a few! But I assumed that would attract unwanted stares. Silly old Dave...)
We left our bags at the back seat and drove off towards Dave’s house. Something I always liked about living in a town: Everything is close, and yet, a car never seems a bad idea. Maybe my ass is just lazy, but I enjoy relaxing next to Dave as my werewolf boyfriend just drives us safely towards our destination.
“I forgot to ask… Are your parents home?” I like Mr. and Ms. Walker! I really do! But there’s so many things you can do when a couple of werewolves with heightened senses are in the house with you. I have a feeling that they can hear every single sound in the house.
And that’s not really fun. I don’t think it’s intentional though, but it’s pretty hard to have a heart-to-heart moment when you think everyone is listening to you.
“Nuh-uh.” Dave mumbled, as he parked outside his garage. “Pop’s working during the evening, comes back by the time we’d be out of school, so we have quite a few hours before our private time is over. Mom’s out with some of her friends I guess, she doesn’t like spending much time ‘locked away’.”
“So, you really want to have a pool day? We’re a month or so away from Winter, big guy.” Not intending to sound like a party pooper. The day was nice and you can survive without a jacket, but I don’t think I’ll be going into the pool. Catching a cold isn’t something I look forward to.
“I’m always up for some swimmin’, but get what ya mean, bruh.” He turned off the engine and looked at me. “You can relax by the pool, and if things get really cold we can just go to my room and warm ya up!”
We entered the house. I couldn’t hear a single sound inside, which was a comforting thing.
“Lose the clothes! Lose the clothes! Lose the clothes!” Dave started chanting, as he stripped in front of me as fast as he could, soon standing naked in the middle of the living room.
I always liked how easily he loses his clothes at every chance he gets. Maybe he likes having his built body at full display for others to admire? I mean, who wouldn’t admire him?
The meaty pecs are not too big, but not exactly small either. His 6-pack abs are perfectly aligned and seem ready to take a few punches, breaking your hand in the process.
His cock was hard, of course. His cock was always hard when he’s naked, like an automatic thing.
He seems like a 15 years old with those levels of horniness, and yet he makes such a great job holding himself back instead of suggesting to have sex everyday. I don’t know if he jerks off though, maybe he’s just happy to see me.
“I… prefer to stay clothed?” Such a party pooper, I know, but I’d rather not worry my mom with getting sick because I want to seem cool for my boyfriend. I’ll get naked in the bedroom, but the pool seems out of the question right now.
Dave frowned. “Still worrying about gettin’ cold? Wait here and strip, I’ll get ya a solution, bruh.” He raced upstairs, our bags in hand. I loved how the locket dangled in between his pecs, such a cool detail.
I did as told though, not because he told me to but because I was curious. And a little part of me didn’t want to be lame. That train is gone now, though, right?
I waited for my puppy boy, as I started feeling the cold getting to me. It wasn’t bad, but not exactly the most pleasant thing in the world. I stayed in my boxers, because I wasn’t looking forward to the air invading my ass.
A minute later or so, the jock dashed down the stairs with his varsity jacket on one arm, and a pair of towels on the other. He was already wearing his speedo, but it failed to hide anything due to his hard on.
“Uhm… Could you go soft like… down there?” I asked, trying to sound as nice as possible. Perks of having a werewolf soulmate, apparently everything you say sounds always as nice as possible, Dave is just happy to comply with everything that I may want or need.
Including controlling his body functions, like how his dick just got soft all of a sudden and the speedo looked a bit less revealing. Still, it fitted him quite well.
“Not gonna swim, right?” Dave asked, giving me a finger gun. I shook my head, before laying a towel on the ground and just laying down. “A’ight, watch these moves then, bruh!”
He jumped in the pool with a cannonball, making a big splash, before giving me a thumbs up and smiling. I clapped a lot, to show him some enthusiasm before he sank back down and started doing laps. I rolled my eyes, and started scrolling through my phone.
--------
Dave pulled himself out of the pool after finishing another set of laps, and started drying himself off like a dog: Shaking it off.
I covered myself with his jacket, and I heard him chuckle. “Water’s so nice today, bruh. You should give it a try!”
“Are you really not cold? It’s okay if you are… We can do something else instead.” I knew he wasn’t but I was worried about him.
“Chill out, my body’s as warm as a lighted chimney.” He finished drying himself off with a towel and sat beside me on the stone floor. “Us werewolves can take some really cold temperatures, especially while wearing our fur, babe.”
Huh, that awakened my curiosity!
“So… everyone in your family is a werewolf?” I asked, reaching out for my phone. I had to write this down or otherwise I would forget about it! I had made a special text file for my research on Dave’s… wolfiness.
As soon as I get some juicy new information, I write it down to satisfy my inner nerd. Never thought I would be so invested in investigating a supernatural creature, but yet again, I never thought I’d have a werewolf as my soulmate!
“Uh… not quite?. Like, I think there’s a fifty percent chance if one of the two is a normal person, but we don’t really care about that. It’s not like it’s a super important thing to have a werewolf son.” He tried to explain, putting on his sunglasses again and sitting beside me. “It is pretty important for my pops but between you and me, he’s just kinda racist.”
My fingers tapped the screen as I heard everything Dave had to say. I mean, not the part about his dad, but the werewolves’ children having a fifty percent chance to inherit lycanthropy.
“But,” He resumed his explanation. “Most of my family is a werewolf, maybe there’s just one or two not werewolves out there? There are a lot of Walkers, that’s for sure. Not sayin’ we mate like bunnies but… I do have a lot o’ cousins.”
“Any siblings?” I asked, but he shook his head in denial.
“Nope. I’m an only son, bruh. I always thought it was because I’m an alpha, and dad says I got the jackpot with that rank. Heheh.” A smug look on his face, he flexed his arms while pointing to himself with his head high. The guy was trying to seem narcissistic or he was really proud of himself.
He looked cute anyway. The speedo was holding his now-soft cock perfectly, and you could see his shape through it. Muscles in all the right places… the guy looked like a really little hulk. Just… human-like, and not green.
I took my eyes off him for a few seconds to finish writing this line at my notepad. ‘Werewolves seem to mate and reproduce themselves quite frequently, but it varies on a subject vasis.’
“Hey nerd, drop the phone.” Dave said, in a commanding tone. I definitely wasn’t expecting it, but I looked at him again and he seemed a bit annoyed. Maybe because I wasn’t giving him much attention? He wasn’t flexing anymore, then he started walking closer.
I tapped my way to the ‘Save’ button before leaving my phone next to me. “Uh… sure thing? What’s with the attitude?”
The puppy boy didn’t stop to answer, but instead got next to me and grabbed my hips in a swift move. Supernatural speed or reflexes, whatever you want to call it, I loved it. “Just enjoy it, babe…” He mumbled, before leaning in for a kiss. I closed my eyes as I kissed him back, and could feel my body being lifted from the nice towel on the grass.
His warm skin against my naked chest, only protected by his varsity jacket. A few seconds afterward, the varsity jacket was off. The locket necklace was cold, but I didn’t mind. I just enjoyed the moment, just like he said.
Dave was walking, but the kiss distracted me. My mistake was closing my eyes, because I didn’t see his prank coming.
“One… two…” He started to swing me towards the pool. I opened my eyes as soon as he started counting, but I only managed to say a surprised “Dave-!” before he interrupted me.
“Three!” SPLASH. I fell in the water. The cold water, but my body was quickly getting used to it. I stayed underwater for a few more seconds to fully embrace the cold temperature, I knew that I would shiver a bit less if I did that.
I had my eyes closed once again, because I never got used to my eyes touching water, but I did feel the water movement as Dave jumped right after me.
I swam back to the surface. I’m not a good swimmer, but this area of the pool wasn’t that deep so I could touch the bottom with my feet and keep myself up with small jumps.
“Hey, hey. I got’cha now…” Dave mumbled, catching me in his arms and keeping me from jumping. I hugged him as tightly as I could. His body was still warm, so it felt really good. Like some kind of underwater stove.
“T-Thanks, big guy…” I managed to say. I would have loved to avoid seeming a weakling, but even with Dave’s hot body, I still felt myself getting colder the longer I was in the pool.
Pulling me closer, he leaned in for a good make out session which I really appreciated. I wrapped my legs around his waist and we stayed like that for a good while.
...Until the coldness was too much for me, that is. There’s a little line between ‘being a party-pooper’ and ‘my body can’t hold this temperature anymore’. The wind wasn’t making it any easier, making me feel colder at every part that stood out of the water.
“D-D-Dave… Let’s head... back in, okay?” I managed to say, holding him close. The jock nodded, and swam over to the edge of the pool, making sure to keep me as close as possible.
Once we were out, I reached out for the towel I was laying on a while before. Dave was shaking the water off him like a puppy boy would do, so he was okay in that part. Then, I noticed him getting zoned out again as the fur on his body started to grow.
‘Oh, geez, I love this part!’ I thought, noticing a tail appearing behind him and his muscles growing with the yellow-ish/brown fur on his skin.
His human head morphed into a humanoid wolf one, two little fangs sticking out of his dog snout with a little black spot appearing where his nose was. His hands grew paw pads and claws, before finishing the transformation with a howl after going out of his self-induced trance.
I kept drying myself with the towel, hoping to get warmer with that, but then the puppy boy tackled me. I managed to grab my phone from the ground as he said “Don’t ya worry, my love. Gonna take good care of you…” before picking me up and dashing inside. He was already warm before, but his fur was really comfortable and helping out with the cold.
A few minutes later, the big guy entered his room with me on his arms. I felt like those couples on tv, being carried by my big and strong boyfriend towards his bed. Dave gently left me on top of it and then laid down next to me. A tight hug afterwards, I could feel the coldness fading away as a very comfortable warm invaded my body.
-------
Dave’s POV
Nate fell asleep in my arms. His shivering stopped, and he was warm again.
I sighed, such a dumb move I’ve made. But hey, gettin’ to werewolf form to warm him up was pretty smart, right?
Reluctantly, I pulled away from him and tried to get up from my bed. Any other day I would love to do this, he’s my soulmate! Weeks after noticing him, I still couldn’t believe it. I’m supposed to make him happy and safe, fuck.
I grabbed the bedsheets and made sure Nate was well-covered in them. ‘Only the best for my boyfriend’ I thought. I shivered the bit at the thought of having a ‘boyfriend’, but that’s what he is. A guy. THE guy, the one I love the most in the world.
Magic can be quite funny, huh. How a soulmate can turn my whole world upside down. I would be beatin’ the heck outta this guy if he ever implied that we’re meant to each other. And now I fell in love with a guy. Karma’s a bitch, some say.
The sight of Nate being so comfortable in his sleep, not shivering anymore, just happily dozed off, it pushed all the buttons for me. He had to be happy, I had to make sure of that. I want to be a good soulmate for the guy I love.
Looked down at my hands, I noticed I was still in werewolf form. Mom hates when we go werewolf while we’re at the house, because the fur gets all over the floor sometimes. She’s not home though, so I can do whatever I want.
Nate’s phone was firmly held by his owner. He had all that investigation thing in there, so I guess that’s why. I knew he wanted to know more about me and my lycanthropy, and I was honored to help him! He wanted to try and understand me more? He’s the best!
I rubbed my hairy wolf head, what to do now? Should I wait for him to wake up?
I mean, I’d love to spend time just cuddling with him, but I kinda feel guilty for pulling him into the pool like that. Gonna start listening to him if I want to stop fucking up.
Nate’s really nice to me, and never tells me I fuck up, but there’s always that little possibility I actually fuck up our dates quite often and he just never tells me, and I love him too much to hurt him in any way.
That’s also why I’ve been trying to control my strength, too! Our first days together, I almost crushed the guy down with my weight, but after some practice I managed to keep myself at bay to make sure he’s comfortable with me around!
I clenched my fist and threw a punch to the air. A little unfamiliar ‘cling cling’ sounded as I did so, the locket. Watching it filled me with joy and a warm feeling. It’s like I carry a little reminder that I’m Nate’s soulmate.
A puppy boy, always ready to please my owner in any way possible.
My own words, the ones I wrote on the little note inside the locket, resonated through my mind. “My heart, body and mind belongs to my lovely soulmate Nate Hall.” Followed by my signature. It was cheesy, and maybe a try hard-ish thing for my taste, but it was the truth. Nate was my owner and I was his puppy boy.
I held the metal thing tightly in my hand, before letting it go and turning around, heading out of my room. Empty house, still plenty of time to have fun.
I had to walk in tiptoes, because my heavy footsteps may wake up my boyfriend. I could just change back into human form, but I felt stronger and faster while in werewolf form. Any excuse I have to use it will be great.
Out on the corridor, I looked for the attic trapdoor’s handle on the ceiling. The attic is a pretty dirty and dark place, we just use it as storage. So, I assumed mom and pops would store their family treasures or memories. Boxes filled with old books, photo albums, letters and other trash.
Somewhere in those boxes had to be my old copy of the ‘Being a werewolf: How to keep the secret safe and live among the human society.’ book. (Sounds lame, but I ain’t making that up!).
So, time for a good search. I can’t search it by smell, because I would only smell dust and humidity.
My claws made it a bit more harder to search through the boxes without breaking stuff, but I managed to search through quite a few of them pretty quickly. No luck so far.
A box next to a small window had a little ‘Old stuff from Dave’ tag on it. Mom liked to organize stuff, I don’t know why I didn't look for this one to begin with.
I opened the top of the box and began searching through full notebooks filled with gibberish writing from when I didn’t know how to read or write. I was quite the slow learner, according to a few old teachers. Then, there it was.
A brown book, with a wolf doing a thumbs up to me, with silver letters that read ‘Being a werewolf: How to keep the secret safe and live among the human society.’ And a little seal of quality on the bottom of it that said ‘Approved by the supernatural council’. This would make a perfect gift for my nerdy boyfriend.
I decided to look a bit more around that box and other ones, just in case I found more stuff for him, but I’ve been up in the attic for quite some time, apparently.
“Uh… Dave?” A dazed Nate asked, still in my room. I could hear him perfectly, great part of the heightened hearing.
“Comin’ up!” I answered, trying to sound loud enough for him to hear me. Searching for treasures would have to wait, my soulmate needed me.
I left the attic and closed the trapdoor, before running into my room. Another rule, my mom doesn’t like us running in the house because we could break the furniture, but pops always gives me a free pass on that one.
“Need anythin’? I’m so sorry for pushing you in down there, bro…” I tried to apologize, but Nate didn’t seem mad at all. Nor disappointed, he just seemed… comfortable. “If you want me to do something to make it up for you, just say it and I’ll do it. Anything. Oh, wait, got you this book for your investigation...”
I sometimes think I can exaggerate when around Nate, but there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for him. And that’s not poetry, I mean it quite literally.
There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for him.
I gave him the book and Nate examined it carefully. “Being a werewolf… Is there actually a whole guidebook about being a werewolf?” He asked, before leaving it on my night table. I nodded, wondering if he liked it or not.
“Thanks so much! And about before, don’t worry about it.” Nate said, breaking the few seconds of silence. “I mean, I’m not dead so… it was just a fun prank!” Huh, I thought he would actually be mad at me after that. “Hey, c’mere.”
I did as told, while he reached out for my wolf head. I started giving light kicks to the floor as he scratched the back of my ear. There’s no way I can describe the pleasure this gives me. It’s just… the best thing in the world, next to him.
“‘sides, you also brought me up here and warmed me up. I can’t be mad at you for being such a good puppy boy! Who’s a good puppy boy? Huh? Who’s a good puppy boy?”
An urge to answer overwhelmed me. “I am!” I said. “I am a good puppy boy! Woof!”
“Yes, you are! You’re the best puppy boy ever, aren’t you?” He continued, now scratching my neck. My kicks came out a bit stronger now, as the pleasure went up. My cock was already rock hard, this was amazing!
“Yeah! I am your puppy boy, bruh! Woof, woof!” My urge to bark wasn’t a new thing, either. It was like my animal instinct and my human mind were at a bit of a struggle right now. I didn’t care though, Nate’s happiness was the thing that mattered the most to me right now.
“Come up on the bed, we’re gonna have some puppy fun, right puppy boy?”
I nodded excitedly, before climbing my bed. I loved how small Nate looked when on my bed. Probably because I’m way bigger than him, and the bed was actually made to fit my werewolf form on it.
“Also… could you just… zone out for a bit? You know, like we’ve practiced, puppy boy.”
No time to think, though. Had to obey.
If Nate was the center of my world before, then he just became the center of my universe as my mind emptied from every thought that didn’t involve obeying him.
Nate was my soulmate, my owner, the most important person in my life without a doubt. And I was just a simple puppy boy jock.
“My heart, body and mind belongs to my lovely soulmate Nate Hall.” Those words resonated again in my mind, this time stronger, as Nate pulled his wet underwear off. “Take off your speedo, puppy boy.” He ordered.
I was smiling, and my tongue was lolling out. I obeyed his order without a single doubt in my mind. Pure bliss by just obeying my soulmate was a great thing. Nate moved me like a ragdoll, having one of my hands wrapped around his cock and the other around mine. “Now, start jerking us off.”
It was an honor for me. My owner wanted me to jerk him off! I couldn’t disappoint him!
I did my best, trying to control my strength well enough so he could enjoy it without pain. I replicated my own moves on my cock, pleasuring myself as well. Nate was just laying there, eyes closed and arms behind his back. He moaned from time to time.
While we already went through the ‘fucking’ stage, I never knew if Nate enjoyed it as much as I did. We never did it again, so it’s hard to know.
But hey, any moment with my soulmate is an amazing one!
I kept stroking him for quite a while, not minding anything but focusing on bringing him pleasure. My own pleasure was another thing, but he included it in his order so I had to pleasure myself too!
Then, he pushed my hand off and grabbed me by the locket. “That’s enough for now, let’s just cuddle together, all right?”
My answer was a bit of panting, as I did as he suggested and wrapped him in my arms. I hoped my fur warmed him a lot more, after the shitty move I pulled before.
“I love you, puppy boy. You’re the best and only puppy boy in the world for me...” A little yawn as he laid on my pecs.
I smiled, feeling myself blush a bit but it would have been not distinguishable at all due to the fur in my face. This was one of the few times that I had to fight against the influence of being ‘zoned out’, not for a bad reason, but because I wanted to answer him.
“I… love you… too, my love…” I managed to say, quite happy but still a bit unemotional. Eh, did my best there, and Nate seemed happier, since he hugged me tighter.
“Let’s just nap for a while… Okay?” I don’t know if that was an order, but I almost immediately dozed off.

Somewhere Else Sterek, 1.5K, Teen For the prompt: Neighbors AU Also on AO3
“It isn’t real.”
Derek blinks, startled, and looks up from where he had definitely not been staring at Stiles’ long fingers wrapped around the neck of a beer bottle. “What isn’t?”
Stiles leans in closer, eyes darting around like he’s afraid someone might be listening in, as he stage whispers. He is definitely at least buzzed right now. “Me and Scott. Our whole relationship. We faked it.”
That is... a lot to try to unpack all at once.
Derek’s known Scott and Stiles for a few months now, ever since they moved into the apartment building his mother owns. Derek lives one floor above them and acts as general manager and handyman for the place. Other than himself, all the other tenants are either couples or families, one of his mother’s stipulations for renters.
For these last several months Derek has believed Scott and Stiles to be one of the most loving and solid couples he’s ever met.
Now here he is, standing over a barbecue at the neighborhood block party, being told by a somewhat tipsy Stiles that the relationship is a lie.
“I’m sorry, what?” he asks, and then hisses as he smells one of the burgers he’s been flipping start to burn. He takes it off the grill and puts it onto a plate with the others.
Stiles takes a swig of his beer and then leans in a little closer. “We both really needed to find a new apartment, and this one was perfect. Great location, and way cheaper than anything else we could find, so...” He shrugs. And then his eyes go comically wide. “Oh god, please don’t tell your mom.”
“I...” Derek has no idea what to say. Stiles and Scott are just friends? Stiles... doesn’t have a serious, live-in boyfriend?
“Okay but seriously, we’re cool, right?” Stiles looks a little panicked now and suddenly a lot more sobered up. “I only told you because you and I are, like, bros now, or whatever. Or, well, you let me chill on your couch and eat all your stock-piled girl scout cookies. And you don’t complain anymore when I call you over just to change the batteries on the smoke detector.”
Derek can’t help himself from responding to that ongoing argument. “If you would just go buy a freaking stepstool--”
“That I would use once every freaking blue moon, when you’re just a floor away? I’m on a budget, Hale.”
Derek swallows. “Right. Which is why you apparently lied to get this apartment.”
Stiles bites his bottom lip and looks down, idly toying with the peeling edges of the label on his beer. “I mean, we really are basically married.”
He’s not wrong, as far as Derek’s been able to tell. Stiles and Scott are attached at the hip, and they move around each other like they’re psychically linked.
Derek turns his full attention back to the barbecue, scowling at a hot dog that’s a little too done. “Ask him out, then. I’m sure he’ll say yes.”
In his periphery he sees Stiles rear back, startled. “Uh. Come again?”
Derek flips a veggie burger and nods a distracted greeting at the couple from the second floor who both salute him in tandem with the hands holding their hard ice teas.
“I won’t rat you out to my mother, I’m not that much of a dick. But you guys are good together, and you obviously wish there was more there. Just ask him out. I can tell you right now he won’t say no.”
Stiles starts choking so hard, Derek makes to leave the grill and do the Heimlich.
But Stiles shakes his head and holds up a hand to stop him. “Sorry. Sorry, I just. Scott has a girlfriend? Who he is super in love with. And the idea of me ever being into the guy who is basically my brother is upsetting on so many levels, dude.”
“Then why are you telling me any of this?” Derek shakes his head, brow furrowed in confusion. “If you aren’t lamenting a lack of romance with the guy you’re pretending to be romantically involved with, then why...”
Stiles grabs the back of his neck, ducking his head, and a blush blooms across the pale skin of cheeks. “No real reason. Sorry. Probably best to forget I ever--”
“Stiles,” Derek interrupts. He sets down his spatula, takes Stiles’ beer from him to set aside as well, and steps forward.
He really doesn’t want to get his hopes up. There’s been too much heartbreak in his life that the idea of putting himself out there for more is terrifying.
But he’s been more than a little in love with Stiles since the guy first knocked on his door to borrow milk, and then unceremoniously set up shop in Derek’s living room to eat cereal and heavily critique every title in Derek’s Netflix queue. If there’s even a chance that Derek has a shot here, now that he knows Stiles doesn’t have a boyfriend...
“If you’re not actually with Scott, and you don’t want to be with him, is there maybe someone else that you do?”
Stiles looks up and meets Derek’s eyes, biting his lip. “Maybe,” he hedges.
“And is that someone possibly the same person whose freezer full of Thin Mints is now completely bare?”
“Hey, if you weren’t willing to share your stash, you never should’ve let me into your kitchen in the first place.”
“I seem to recall you hijacking my fridge all on your own despite me repeatedly telling you to get the hell out of my apartment.”
“Token protests.” Stiles waves a hand dismissively, a smirk forming on his face. “We both know you love me.”
Derek smiles, small but genuine. “I suppose we do.”
There is a moment where the rest of the world fades away as they just stare dopily at each other. Derek doesn’t care how much of an idiot he probably looks, only that Stiles has got his hand on Derek’s forearm now, and then they’re both leaning in, and then...
“Wait!” And then Stiles shoves Derek hard enough that he stumbles back a step, nearly right into the grill.
Which is starting to smoke a bit, so Derek immediately reins in the frown on his face to something more like a scowl and focuses his energy on checking the meat instead of feeling heartbroken.
“No, don’t-- I mean, I want to,” Stiles stumbles over his words in his urgency to get them out. “I really want to, I swear, but--” Derek looks back at him in time to see him gesture at all their neighbors around them. “I also really don’t want to get kicked out of my apartment, ya know?”
Right. Derek’s mom is pretty strict about the qualifications for tenants.
But she also has a soft spot for her only son, so.
“You said Scott has a girlfriend?” Derek asks, while taking off the apron he’s been wearing and waving it at Dave from down to block who’s been looking to step in all afternoon.
“Um. Yes?” Stiles replies, clearly confused.
“And they’re serious?”
“As a heart attack.”
Derek nods. “Good. So you’re both in long-term, committed relationships. I think I can sell that to my mom as being within her restrictions.”
“Wait, but I’m not--” It takes Stiles a second to get it, even as Derek’s taking Stiles’ hand in his and leading him towards their apartment building. “Oh,” he says, blinking, and tripping over his own feet. “Oh.”
Derek looks back at Stiles with a smirk and feigns a nonchalant shrug. “Worst case scenario, you can just move in with me and then she won’t have a leg to stand on.”
A burst of bright, delighted laughter erupts from out of Stiles. “Okay, big guy, but we might want to put off conversations about moving in together until after, like, the third or fourth date.”
“You practically live on my couch anyway.”
“I could practically live somewhere else in your apartment.” Stiles wags his eyebrows ridiculously. Derek is so completely gone on this moron.
Which is good, because Derek has a feeling that no matter how this all goes down, he has a very length lecture from his mother to look forward to. But as Stiles kisses him at the door to his apartment, before Derek’s even managed to get his keys out, he couldn’t care less.
Stiles does, in fact, practically live “somewhere else” in Derek’s apartment for a very long time after that.

Two days after the incident in the training room, finals week had wrapped up, Kennedy had already gone home to celebrate an early Christmas with her parents before joining you in Victoria, campus closed down and you had found yourself displaced. Originally, pre-Typocalypse...you were supposed to stay with Jamie and Katie, then all fly back together after the game tonight. But those plans had since changed since Jamie was obviously still not talking to you. Kennedy offered you to come and stay with her, but you were already stealing her for Christmas, you didn't want to intrude on the few days her and her parents got to spend together for the Holidays.  Before you could even think about booking a hotel for the next few days, Big Rig offered you his guest room and the two of you have been temporary roommates ever since.
It was a great set up, honestly. Since you were still obligated to be at team practices, the two of you drove there together and left afterward. He was like the big shield that protected you from Jamie's glares and Tyler's horrible attempts at trying to please Jamie by not looking at you. When they went on their Florida series, Dave offered you a chance to go since you were on break, but you turned it down and made a joke about how if you went to Florida you might not come back. Instead, you relaxed on Big Rig's couch, thought about going to see Tyler's dogs and switched between binging 'You' and 'Fuller House' on Netflix.
But today was the day that you would be handing John the paperwork for your internship that he needed to sign and handover. Just things saying that your timesheet was correct, signing off and typing up a letter about how you did. The practice before they left for Florida, actually the same day he had offered you a spot on the trip, was when you broke the news to him that you wouldn't finish out the season with them. Of course, he probably had some kind of inkling as to the reasons why. You always thought that girls were the worst when it came to gossip, but it turns out grown men are a lot worse. But he was kind and never asked for the specifics and respected your decision not to continue and just told you to give him the paperwork whenever you could and that he'd fill it out for you. He also commented on how good of a job you did and that if you ever changed your mind, they'd welcome you back without a second thought.
And that's what you told Katie when the two of you went out to an early dinner before heading to the arena for the game. But now, as the two of you were in your uber and headed towards the arena, the daunting task of having to actually hand over your paperwork weighed heavy on your heart. Katie had invited you along to dinner and you thought that it was probably her way of reaching out to you since your brother was failing to do so, but you didn't mind. You really liked Katie and she was like the other big sister you never had. To your surprise though, the two of you didn't talk much about what had happened between you, Tyler and Jamie. Instead, she focused on your senior year, where you were applying to jobs and how life in L.A. had been treating her.
But now you were itching to get her opinion on the matter, because if there was anyone besides you who was closer to Jamie in this city and had the insight of his thoughts– it was her. When the two of you stepped out of the Uber and made your way through security to get to the back hallway, you broke the silence on the matter.
"Did you know?" You blurted out as the two of you bypassed security. She turned to you with a generic expression. "Did you know before he...found out?"
"I mean, I kind of had a feeling something was going on," she replied, shrugging her shoulders. "Just even during the few times I was down here and we all went downtown. The two of you had never really been as close or hung out too often before and I just noticed all of the little things that boys are too oblivious to see."
"Yeah, maybe going out together was a bad idea. Maybe this whole damn thing was a bad idea," you sighed, clutching the manilla folder close to you.
"I don't think it was a bad idea, I just think that you and Tyler approached it wrong. You guys should've been a little more upfront and honest with Jamie. He still might have been angry, but it would have been a lot better than the alternative."
You nodded, accepting her cold truth as the two of you made your way through the parking garage and towards the hallway entrance. "Has he reached out to you yet?"
"Jamie or Tyler?"
"Both, I guess."
You shook your head, pushing back the pain that came with the thought of the two guys you cared for most, ignoring you. "Not even an in-person acknowledgment."
"I've been talking to them both, trying to get them to see the sense of it all. I told Jamie he needs to talk to you before this gets any worse...but you know how he is."
"Yeah, I do," you nodded, opening the door and stepping into the hallway. You looked down the right towards the training room and took a deep breath. "Well, I guess this is it."
"I can come with you if you want? Give you a little moral support?"
"Thanks, but I need to do this on my own," you took a deep breath and nodded, giving yourself a little encouragement. "I'll see you at home in a few hours?"
"Longest plane ride of our lives," she joked, hugging you before turning towards the elevator. "Oh, one more thing about you and Tyler!"
"Yeah?" You asked, giving her a hopeful, but sad look.
"It wasn't just the physical things I noticed, like the small touches." She shrugged her shoulders and gave you a small smile. "But it was just how different the two of you seemed. You were a lot happier and open and Tyler...he was a lot calmer and genuinely happy. I think the two of you are very good together."
You didn't know what to say, but instead gave her a thankful smile and watched her get into the elevator to head up to the upper level. It hurt your heart, to think about how your relationship had changed the two of you for the better and yet here you guys were– avoiding each other at all costs. You brushed those thoughts aside and walked down the hallway. You needed to give Dave your paperwork, but there was something else you needed to do first.
You knocked on to the locker room door, hearing a voice on the other side. You covered your eyes with one hand and pushed the door open, stepping into the room. "Is everyone in here decent?"
"It's just me and Dobby, Y/N," Klinger said, laughing. "So yes, open your eyes."
You uncovered your eyes to see the two men sitting in their respectful stalls. "Where's everyone else?"
"Training room, on the bench or playing footy," Dobby said, standing up. "You okay?"
You nodded, walking over towards Big Rig's stall and holding up your purse. "Big Rig just asked me to bring something for him, he forgot it at the apartment."
They nodded and Dobby walked out of the door, Klinger stopping while holding it open. "Do you think you can tape me today?"
You felt a crushing feeling inside of you because he had no clue that you weren't here to work...but instead to quit. "If no one's busy." You smiled, as he nodded in reply before leaving the locker room.
You took a deep breath and sighed before walking away from Big Rig's stall and over to Tyler's. You dug into your purse and pulled out his house key, which was attached to the  '#1 labrador mom' keychain he had given you, and placed it right in the middle of his stall. You've been meaning to give it back to him since everything crumbled, but you just haven't had the courage to face him since the day of he and Jamie's explosion. Plus, you were flying home to Victoria tonight and there would be no better time than the present to give him back the gift. Now, you had to do the one thing that you came here for– turn in your hour sheet, along with some other internship paperwork, to John. You had talked to him earlier in the week about deciding not to finish out the season, and you had to admit that you felt honored that he was upset that you were choosing not to continue. For the first time in a while, it made you feel like you had accomplished something here and that your work was appreciated. But the hardest part wasn't telling him that you were quitting, it was turning in your paperwork for him.
You stood outside of the training room door, contemplating whether or not to call Katie and tell her that you had changed your mind, that you'd love for her to walk into the room with you so you could walk right back out. But then you thought back on all of your conversations with Big Rig since Kennedy left and how, in her absence, he's been more than willing to lend an ear and even give you some advice and boost up your confidence. You closed your eyes and took a deep breath, exhaling and then opening your eyes again. "I can do this." You gave yourself a few more seconds before bringing your shoulders back, lifting your chin and pushing the door open, walking into the training room like you owned the place.
"Y/N!" Pavs cheered, throwing his fists into the air. "You're finally here! I've been waiting for you to come and tape my ankle for me, for like...ever!"
"Sorry for being late," you replied, looking immediately in John's direction to see him walking over to his desk. "I just need to–"
"And you're out of your uniform?" Dickinson scoffed, walking by you. "What are they teaching you at this fancy college?"
"Yeah Y/N, you're not on winter break yet. No, relax!" Rads chimed in as the rest of the guys just laughed.
You rolled your eyes at their chirping but kept the smile on your face because you were glad that things seemed to have rolled over when it came down to the tension whenever you, Tyler and Jamie were all in the same room. This was ringing true because the three of you were in the same room at this very moment. Tyler was sitting down by Big Rig, stealing a resistance band from him to work on his shoulder, while Jamie was lying on a table in front of John's desk, getting his hamstring scraped by Craig. Neither of them looked as tense as they had in the last week, but they still weren't paying any attention to you. Well, you thought they weren't until you caught Tyler looking away from you the moment you went to say something to Big Rig about his bands. He played it off, looking immediately to his right, probably not realizing he'd be staring at a blank wall– but you were over it all, so it didn't bother you one bit.
"Is this the paperwork we talked about?" Dave asked, finally sitting down at his chair and tossing a towel on his desk.
You walked forward with the manilla folder in hand and held it up, giving him a tight-lipped smile. "Yep, this is it. Sorry I couldn't get it to you sooner. It took a while to get together since Finals ended and everything is hectic."
You held it out to him and he grabbed it from you, placing it onto his desk and opening it, skimming through the pages and nodding. "Can I get this to you after you come back from break?"
"Absolutely. There's no need to rush," you looked off to see Big Rig giving you a supportive look. He was the only one in the room besides Dave, that knew just what those papers were for. "Just as long as it's before graduation."
"Y/N!" Miro said, rushing into the room and out of breath. "You're here! Please tape me, you're the only one who can."
"Looks like you're stuck with just Craig and me, Miro," Dave said, closing the folder and standing up from his chair. "You guys must have chased her away. She's finished with her internship and decided not to extend for the full season."
That non-existent tension that you mentioned earlier, sprung it's ugly head back into the room the moment that his announcement left his lips. Both Jamie and Tyler perked up at what Dave had said, both surprised and even had a split moment where they looked at each other. Though of course, they had no clue of your decision, so shock and confusion were along the lines of what you expected them to feel. You made eye contact with Jamie first and you couldn't exactly pinpoint just what he was feeling since three separate emotions ran across his face: shock, disappointment and finally, joy. When you acknowledged him back, he opened his mouth slightly as if he might just say something, but instead bit the inside of his cheek and rested his head back down onto his forearms as Craig continued to scrap him. Tyler on the other hand only had two visible emotions: sad and extremely pissed. And if it wasn't for the fact that his eyes carried hints of sadness, you'd only think he was extremely pissed, seeing as the scowl on his face and his knitted eyebrows were the key symbols of his anger. Rightfully, you were confused at his reaction. How could he even be bothered to be angry about your choice when he hasn't talked to you in nearly two weeks?
Screw him, he has no right to be angry.
You turned your attention away from him and started to make your way back to the training room door. "Well, shit, who the hell is going to deal with my shin problem now?" Big Rig said, clearing out the silence in the room.
Bishop laughed as well a few other guys who were still left in the training room before walking away from your desk and over to you. "You're 27 years old, figure it out, you dweeb!" He came to a stop in front of you and hugged you. "Good luck with the rest of your senior year. I hope you'll still come around."
"Eh, maybe I will," you joked, pulling away from the hug and giving the guys a small wave. "Good luck tonight guys. Someone fight Tkachuk or I'll disown you as my team and switch to the Canucks."
Your joke was followed by multiple groans and mumbles, in reply to your goodbye and to the fact that you were leaving their training room forever. Once the conversation returned to normal, you took that as your time to slip out of the training room unnoticed and back out into the hallway. The moment you stared down the empty hallway, you took a deep breath and felt as if a huge weight was lifted off of your shoulders. You, Kennedy and Big Rig had made yourself a checklist of things to do before the year came to an end and you came back from winter break.
The first? Talk to Dave and give him the paperwork to wrap up your internship.
The second? Somehow repair your relationship with Jamie, which has yet to even have an outlined plan.
And the third? ...Close things off with Tyler on a positive note. He was a friend way before he was a hookup and he's your brother's best friend. Just because the two of you had relations, doesn't mean you couldn't still be friends.
You weren't one to lie to yourself. You knew that the last one probably wouldn't happen before the end of the year, if at all. Confronting Tyler was terrifying to you. Sure, you've planned everything that you wanted to say to him– it's been boiling inside of you for days. But there was never a moment that presented itself to where you could get Tyler alone, and you no longer felt comfortable just showing up at his place. So, you just pushed it onto the backburner and knew that somewhere down the road, you'd be able to accept that things would be like this from here on out– avoiding each other and pretending like nothing ever happened.
"Y/N, wait!" Halfway down the hallway, you stopped in your tracks as you listened to the sound of a door closing and shoes scuffing along the floor.
You didn't want to turn around, hell, you didn't even want to stop. But it was like your body turned against you the moment that you heard his voice. His footsteps came to a stop just behind you and you could hear him panting a little, trying to catch his breath. In his hand, you heard the slight jingle of a single key on a lanyard, and your heart squeezed in your chest.
"You can't do this. You can't leave!" The anger in his voice took you by surprise, just like his reaction only moments ago in the training room had. "You can't let me stop you from keeping this internship."
"Excuse me?" You scoffed, whipping around and feeling pure adrenaline running through your veins. "That's awfully narcissistic of you."
He looked taken back as he held tightly onto the lanyard he'd gifted you. "That's why you're leaving, though. Because of...everything?" He took a step towards you, shaking his head. "If it is I–"
Maybe it was the way he had phrased the sentence or maybe it was the way that he had pretty much just written off every moment the two of you had shared in a hesitant state. Whatever it was, you felt a whirl of anger and adrenaline swirling around inside of you as you clenched your fists by your side. "I completed my hours, Tyler, meaning my internship is done. I've fulfilled my duties as an intern here and even if it was about you and 'everything'," you threw your air quotes as you stared at him, your eyes hoping to burn holes into his head. "My position here was never permanent and we both knew that."
You felt slightly proud of yourself for the sly insinuation you threw in at him, and even more so proud when you saw that he understood just what you were implying. "Y/N listen, we need to talk."
Even if you wanted to, you couldn't have prevented the laugh that escaped from your mouth. "You've had almost two weeks to 'talk', Tyler. Two weeks to send me a text or a phone call to meet up someplace! But now that I'm leaving and I'll no longer be around for your convenience, it's the perfect time to talk?"
He stood there silent because he knew damn well that you were right. He had plenty of opportunities in the last two weeks to reach out to you, but he hadn't even bothered to pick up the phone and there was no denying it. You stood there, taking him in and it only made you feel worse. He had a hurt look on his face like he was lost as to what you wanted him to say or to do– and that only made you angrier. It was simple, what you wanted him to do. For the last two weeks, all you've wanted was for him to just talk to you, to let you know that he hadn't tossed you aside like another pointless hookup. But now, all you wanted to do was get everything off of your chest, and it was then that you realized...the universe was granting you the alone time you've desperately wanted.
"You don't get it, do you?" You asked, shaking your head as you felt a knot tighten in your throat. "You don't get how...how embarrassed I am! Do you know how many people told me to avoid getting involved with you? That you'd do nothing but end up hurting me in the end?"
"'He has a reputation for a reason, Y/N!' 'All he does is whore around Dallas, Y/N.' 'You guys are in two different stages of life, it won't work out.'" You laughed again, trying your damndest not to try. "I've heard it all, Tyler. From Kennedy, from your teammates, from kids at my school, hell– I even heard it from my mom!"
You bit the inside of your cheek as you looked off to your left, giving yourself a few seconds to compose your thoughts before looking at him again. "But I brushed their worries aside because I saw a side of you that they never got the chance to. I saw how kind and sweet you were with me. How you'd jump at any opportunity to help me study and how you always made me feel welcome in your home."
"I saw it all and I thought, 'hey, you know what? They're all wrong. He's not that kid in Boston and he's not the same guy he was when he first got to Dallas.'" You pointed at him before letting your hand drop back to your side. "I gave you the benefit of the doubt because I know people can change and with my whole heart, I believed that you had."
He continued to stare at you, almost void of emotion now as if he had put up a wall and was just letting you scream at it, which only made you more upset. "I understand that you could have lost your best friend, I really do. And I'd never ask you to put our, whatever the hell we had, above your friendship with Jamie."
Your bottom lip trembled as you thought about the nights since, where you've checked your phone every minute to see if he had texted you. "But you could have texted me. You could've said 'hey, I just need some space right now to figure stuff out' and I would have been fine with that! Instead, you just...tossed me aside and shut me out."
The more that you spoke, the more weightless you began to feel. It was as if speaking every word and feeling you had saved for Tyler was freeing you of the pain that him dropping you like nothing, had caused. Yet, you couldn't help but feel angry at how he was just standing there. You wanted a reaction, you wanted him to apologize– anything was better than this.
"Say something! Stop standing there and staring at me!" You yelled, feeling surprised at yourself for just how high your voice had gone and echoed off of the walls.
You watched his Adam's apple bob as his fingers tangled and twirled through the lanyard."Jamie and I... we've been talking and I think it's going well."
"Well that's great for you, isn't it?" You scoffed, shaking your head and motioning towards him with a hand. "At least my brother is talking to someone, right? Better you than me, I guess. I'm happy you got your best friend back, I truly am."
The longer you stood there, the more you felt your body begin to shake from the pure adrenaline running through you. And the more that he just stared at you, the more you felt your heart breaking because it was starting to become clear that you were the only one who was hurting from all of this. You laughed in disbelief at your revelation before turning away from him, preparing to walk down the aisle and out of his view.
"Why?" You asked, keeping your back turned. "Why did you do it?"
"...Why did I do, what?"
You turned around, your hair whipping into your face before you brushed it back with your fingers. "Why did you go back to Maisy?" Your voice cracked as you spoke softly, staring at him with the tears that were threatening to spill. "Why did you treat me like I was the most important person to you and then toss me aside like I was just another pointless hookup?"
"Y/N..."
"Did you even care? Wait, no, of course, you didn't and would you like to know how I know that, Tyler?" You stared at him, expecting an answer but knowing you wouldn't get one. "Because you practically rushed me out of your house and into an uber like I was nothing. You couldn't even be bothered to make sure I got home okay! The first sign of trouble and you toss me into an uber, sent me away and then ignored me like every..."
Your voice broke as you brought a hand to your mouth and turned away from him. You took a deep breath, trying to calm down your racing heart before looking back at him. "You ignored me like every moment we spent together meant nothing to you. And m-maybe they did but to me? They're some of the best memories I've had here in Dallas."
"So imagine how it made me feel, when my brother of all people, tells me that she's here...in your seats, not even four days after you had sex with me and tossed me aside." You glared at him as your bottom lip trembled once again. "You made me look like a joke Tyler."
"It wasn't like that, okay? Maisy was just–"
"I don't care what it was like, Tyler! She was here, in seats YOU bought her last season!" You yelled, throwing your arms in the air. "You told me that you guys were over! That you haven't talked to her since July and yet, there she was!"
The moment you felt the first tear glide down your cheek, you knew that you only had moments before you would burst into tears. You went to speak and a small sob escaped from the back of your throat. Tyler went into a small panic, his eyes widening as he stepped forward and reached out for you. "Y/N–"
"Don't," You stepped back, smacking his hand away. "Don't touch me, just...don't." You closed your eyes, focusing on your breathing and collecting your thoughts before opening them and looking at him one last time. "I gave you the benefit of the doubt Tyler, but it turns out everyone was right."
You laughed again, shrugging your shoulders and shaking your head. "You're still that 19-year-old kid in Boston, who doesn't have a clue about what he wants for his life...you're nowhere near the man I thought you were." You looked him dead in the eyes, not caring about the tears running down your face. "Grow up."
With that, you turned your back to him and started to finish your journey down the hall and to the elevator, choosing to ignore how his footsteps followed you. "Y/N, wait...please."
You stopped, this time choosing to and kept your head down towards the ground and holding back your sobs. "SEGGY WHERE ARE YOU? GET DRESSED, WE'VE GOT 5 MINUTES TILL WARM-UPS!" Big Rig called out, his loud voice echoing down the hall.
You expected to hear Tyler's footprints walk in the opposite direction, but you were met with silence. "Y/N, stay after the game, please? I just," he sighed, trying to figure out what to say. "We really need to talk about everything and just...please wait for me after the game? Five minutes, two minutes, one minute– whatever you want, I don't care. Just...please, let me explain?"
"SEGGY LET'S GO!" Rads called out this time, his voice louder as you kept your back to Tyler.
You heard him sigh again before listening to his footsteps run in the direction back towards the locker room. You didn't hesitate to walk as fast as you could to the elevator, letting out every tear and sob your body had held back as he pleaded for a chance to explain. It was all you wanted from him, an explanation, but he was too late. You weren't staying for the game, you were leaving the arena and hopping onto a flight to Victoria in two hours.
You just didn't have the heart to tell him that.
You were grateful for the elevator attendant who stayed silent your entire ride up to the upper level. Before the doors opened, you took a deep breath and wiped your eyes, fixing yourself up before you'd make your way through the crowds and out of the arena. The attendant gave you a friendly smile as you walked out of the elevator. As soon as the doors closed and you made your way through the crowds, you spotted Paisley turning away from the drink cart ahead of you and you were desperate for the crowd to swallow you up before she could witness you in all of your misery.
Unfortunately for you, the universe wasn't so kind because as soon as she looked up from her purse, her eyes locked on yours and she smiled and waved at you. You froze in place, probably bothering the fans trying to make their way around you as you watched in horror, Paisley coming towards you.
"Y/N, hi!" She smiled, just as cheery as the first time you met her, which again, made it so hard to dislike her. "What are you doing up here? I thought you were down in the training room and stuff?"
"How did you know that?" You asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Cole," she scoffed, rolling her eyes before taking a sip of her beer, which was another shock because you took her for a wine kind of girl. "He complained about it and Tyler Seguin and some dude named Big Rig? But I don't understand why because like, your job sounds really cool!"
"Well, it was pretty cool, but I finished up my internship, so I won't be here much longer." You replied, stuffing your hands awkwardly into your sweatshirt pockets.
She looked at you, her eyes taking in your appearance and lingering on your face for much longer than you'd like them to. "Are you okay? You look like you've been crying."
There were a lot of things you wanted to do right now and talking to the girl your boyfriend cheated on you with, was not on the list. But she was being so nice to you and after the horrible moment you just had with Tyler, you needed a little positivity right now. "I kind of just maybe...broke up with someone? I mean we weren't a thing, but we kind of were and it's just...it's a whole hot mess." You sighed, shaking your head and brushing it off. "It doesn't matter anymore."
She gasped, bringing her drink to her chest and grabbing onto your wrist with her free hand as she leaned in. "You broke up with Tyler? But why? You guys seemed so happy whenever I saw you out downtown. Even when I saw you walking around campus, you just looked so...happy."
"It's complicated."
She shook her head, sighing and taking a long sip of her wine. "I guess it is true then, men are shit. College guy or NHL player." She must have seen the shocked look on your face because she shrugged her shoulders and rolled her eyes. "Oh yeah, I dumped Cole's ass. Sometime after you left the ABC party. He's just an asshole! And I'm sorry about everything...I never knew and I feel horrible about it."
"It's okay, he really was an asshole." You laughed, feeling a small flutter of happiness rush through you for the first time in what felt like forever. As she joined you in laughter, you dug your phone out of your back pocket and smiled. "What's your number? Maybe we can hang out after break?"
"Oh my God, yes!" She squealed, taking your phone from your hands and bringing her own out. "And I'll add you on snap and Instagram, too! Honestly, you and Kennedy seem like the coolest girls and I've always wanted to be friends with you since freshman year English lit, but we never really had classes together again."
"We can make plans for spring break maybe?" You suggested as the two of you added each other on social media before putting your phones away.
"Yes! We can plan it after break! Maybe you can even introduce me to a cute hockey boy?" She winked, nudging you playfully. "It seems to have worked out for Kennedy well."
You laughed again, nodding your head. "I know a few single guys, we'll see what we can do." You felt your phone vibrating and you brought it back out to see the notification about your uber being ten minutes out. "Oh shoot, I need to go and get my bags before my uber gets here. But I'll text you later?"
"Sure thing!" She nodded before turning to walk away. "Oh, and one more thing!"
"Yeah?"
"Don't count him out just yet, okay? As I said, I saw how he looked at you whenever I saw you guys downtown and if I know boys like I think I do...I'd say that boy loves you. And a boy in love doesn't give up that easily." She smiled and shrugged her shoulders before winking at you. "Just a thought."
You watched her disappear into the crowd, wondering what the hell just happened. When you made your way down the escalators and into the main lobby, you navigated your way towards the front office where Big Rig had asked the staff to hold your bags for you. Sneaking in and then out quickly, you grabbed the Stars 'staff' lanyard around your neck and stuffed it into your sweatshirt pockets before walking out of the arena doors with your luggage in hand and made your way to the spot where you'd meet your uber. As you stood there, waiting for your Uber to arrive, you thought about what she said. Out of curiosity, you brought your phone out of your back pocket again to see a new text on your screen...from Tyler.
'see you after the game?'
You went to reply to tell him the news, but your uber pulled up and you locked your phone and shoved it into your sweatshirt pocket along with the Dallas Stars lanyard.
You were leaving for Victoria, Tyler would go home to Toronto and there would be no waiting for him in the hallway after the game, giving him a chance to explain.
The damage was already done.

Happy New Year! (hopefully, cuz... whew!)
Tumblr media
Ugh! Let's get this year over with; what do you say?? I don't even want to rehash the year like I normally would around this time of year.
Pre-COVID seems like so long ago: We were out at bars, games, concerts, and parties of strangers. We were dancing all up on each other, we were passing the bottle around, we were grabbing all kinds of doorknobs with no concerns. Kids were planning to soon graduate and step into their hopeful, bright futures. Adults were planning vacations around the world to escape a once hopeful present.
Tumblr media
Times were good! Look at this groundhog eating pizza.
Not a care in the world.
And then, Thanos snapped his fingers, the world turned into shit, and we all realized how much we cared about Tom Hanks.
Can you imagine if that were literal? I think someone should get another gauntlet and turn planets into literal piles of crap. A new villain - "Poopfingers"
Ew... I know. I'm sorry.
Like I said, I don't want to talk about that stuff. I'd rather focus on entertainment instead. Join me for a few awards that I like to call "The Praphies"
MOVIE OF THE YEAR -
"WAP"
Tumblr media
I know what you're thinking - "That's not a movie." Meh, it's movie-ish.
It's got two protagonists, whom are trapped in a mansion. It kinda reminds me of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, but instead of chocolate being manufactured, we'd got... pleasure. Who doesn't want more pleasure after the year we've had??
There's a lot of weird things happening in the mansion, so that’s good for the plot. Plus, these ladies are all about... empowerment? - I guess?
Tumblr media
Sure.
Kylie Jenner shows up for some reason, so I'm sure she's up to something; maybe she's the villain. And according to the lyrics "there's some whores in this house". Will they get rid of the "whores"? Will they embrace the whores? Perhaps this word will be taken back, and used as a term of endearment.
As mama looks at her daughter, walking bravely back into schools some day "That's my lil whore." Maybe we're all whores - what a twist.
It's a good picture. One of Scorsese's best. He did direct it right? I think so.
BEST ACTOR -
This one was a close race for me:
Jeanise Jones (Borat 2 - on the right)
Tumblr media
This woman, who was not in on the joke, deserves a medal. She's the star.
Joe Exotic (The Tiger King)
Tumblr media
Anyone standing behind Trump during those Rona briefings, who can hold a straight face.
Technically, Joe and Jeanise aren't actors, and Trump's people are... you know, TRUMP'S people, so I give the award to Mario Lopez for his role as Sexy Colonel Sanders.
Tumblr media
Did y'all watch "A Recipe for Seduction?" It's entertaining. It was my runner-up for MOY.
SHOW OF THE YEAR -
Easy - "The Tiger King" for keeping us all together in the beginning of this 2020 corona mess.
Which leads me to MY person of the year (cuz let's be honest, Uncle Joe and Kamala... no)
Tumblr media
The POY is -
Carole Baskin -
Tumblr media
We all know that she murdered her husband, and yet she took over Joe's zoo property, continues her animal rights activism while being openly weird as hell, and was last seen being applauded on "Dancing with the Stars".
Only in America.
Animated action of the year - “Soul” for bringing us this negro,
Tumblr media
played by Tina Fey :)
I’m just joking ( I love Tina Fey)... well, she does play him, but it’s not like that; still makes me laugh though. At least she didn’t have to worry about blackface.
Tumblr media
I like my action flicks. They all can't be tear-jerkers like "WAP".
Which leads us to ACTION HERO OF THE YEAR --- Kiera Allen
Tumblr media
If you saw the movie "Run" then you know this actress. She is the acrobatic, wheelchair-bound star of the movie. She is in a wheelchair in real life. In this movie she breaks through one window, climbs across a rooftop, breaks through another window, all with water in her mouth for a special finishing trick to end the scene. And she throws herself down a couple of flights of stairs. Let's see Liam Neeson try to do that!
I'm serious when I say - I expect to see her in the next "Fast & Furious" film.
Award for LEAST FUX GIVEN - Ricky Gervais, for lighting Hollywood on fire.
Tumblr media
Athlete - TEAM JLo and Shakira
Tumblr media
--- sidelined me (I attempted to dance like Shakira at work) and sent souls to hell
Tumblr media
(that's some powerful booty shaking... and or just another example of white people being mad at brown people for existing)
SONG OF THE YEAR -
Vin Diesel’s "Feels like I do" - not up for debate.
Tumblr media
Name another action star in 2020 with a single.
Album of the Year - "The Lion King: The Gift / Black is King" - by Beyonce
Tumblr media
We didn't feel much like royalty, but at least we were being heard... well, for a lil bit; a lot more than I ever remember us being heard.
Remember when white people in Hollywood felt so much shame that they did this?
Tumblr media
We had corporations like the NFL tryna pretend to be woke. Aunt Jemima and that Native American woman on the butter were freed
Tumblr media
(though they did keep the land).
White people were afraid, and thought that perhaps this album was going to spark the second coming of Black Jesus.
It's interesting -  black people protested (mostly peacefully); wanting justice, and white people got anxious.   People started rioting and looting because of injustices rooted to this country's original sin, and white people, who's ancestors committed this sin, shook their heads at us in shame. Black people and anyone (of any color) standing with them were treated as hostiles, while white people with guns, shooting at black people were hailed as heroes.
What a time.
I wish Black Jesus really did come back to these Beyonce tunes.
Oh, and this stuff happened too
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Toobin (Ha! This guy )
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ASSHOLE OF THE YEAR (4 years straight)-
Tumblr media
Trump
It's not even close. I was going to suggest that the dude from "The Vow" being a strong runner up, but even that would be disrespectful to Trump's assholery.
The world was on fire (metaphorically and literally), and Trump as our leader, threw gasoline on it. "BLM" came along to be heard and get justice for George Floyd, and Trump convinced his worshippers that BLM is a terrorist group. He shot away protesters, so he could pose awkwardly with a bible (doing God's work - this “work” included telling us to do the opposite of what physicians around the world plead with us to do during a pandemic, pushing drugs on us that these same physicians say no to, and telling us to inject ourselves with bleach. Hallelujah!). He accused Biden of corruption (pot calling kettle black). He loses to Biden, but fights the results with zero evidence, and at the sore loser rallies, there were stabbings and arrests, to which Trump praises their efforts.
A round of applause for the Michael Jordan of Assholes.
Donald J. Trump!
RESPECT!
Lastly, The Praphie (most coveted of awards)
The nominees are -
Kaylen Ward - raised over one million dollars for the Australia fires relief, by passing out nude photos of herself... yep. Seriously, look it up. Well, maybe don’t do that:)
Michael Jordan -  "The Last Dance" was the only sports content for a sports addict like myself. MJ was the drug we needed.
Dr. Fauci - Really for putting up with us.
Dave Chappelle - a hell of a year for him. Plus, he was dropping N-Bombs and smoking on SNL
The Fly on Mike Pence's head.
Kamala Harris
Cardi B - just because
The winner is - Dave Chappelle
Not only for his great year in comedy (in this bleeped up year), but he has evolved into a modern day prophet. Who would have thought that the guy who made "Half Baked"
Tumblr media
would be the one we'd seek out when racial tensions got to the highest levels this year??
Kaylen Ward would have won it, if she had continued her efforts. She could have raised some funds for Greta Thunberg. She could have used her nudity along-side protesters, or even joined doctors around the world, raising money for a vaccine. Smh. That's a shame.
In thinking about Chappelle's evolution, I'm reminded that we're all processing and changing as a result of this year. Some will change for the better, and others for the worse. Some will go to the depths only to rise up again. Regardless, of how you handle it, it's important to know who your true peeps are. Who loves you? Who’s got your back? Who do you love?  We're all going to need true peeps to help us endure. Which leads me to my slogan for next year.
"If you love something let it go, if it doesn't return to you. Hunt it down and kill it." Idk about you, but that touches my heart.
Enjoy yourselves as much as you can tonight, and by that I mean safely :) Some of you might want to consider going to bed early, just to end this year faster.
Happy New Year, everyone!

Sick Day
Request:  can you write something where the reader is sick (head cold or something) and idea 1) david takes care of her and it’s cute or idea 2) he goes out and leaves her at home to care for herself and something goes wrong??
I decided to with the good ending. I love these cute little stories.
Keep the requests coming!
I rolled out of the bed for the first time that day, barely able to breath through my nose and slowly walked over to the bathroom to turn the hot water on hoping the steam could offer some relief. I got undressed and sat down in the shower letting the hot water pour over me, feeling too light headed to stand. I sat there for what seemed like an hour before I heard foot steps walk in the bathroom and then the water turned off.
"You'll boil your skin off if you sit in that hot water any more." David said reaching for a towel to wrap me in.
"I thought you went over to Jason's to do the podcast." I said, my voice sounding funny due to my plugged nose.
"Are you kidding I'm not going to leave you to fend for yourself." David said sitting down on the bathroom counter as I dried myself off, he had already placed some comfy fuzzy pajama bottoms and one of his click bait sweaters on counter for me. "These are fresh out of the dryer." He said picking them up and handing them to me. "Jason came over and we did the podcast here while you were sleeping and cleared the whole day to take care of my baby." He said standing up and kissing me on the cheek. "Well you know we'll cuddle and Natalie and Taylor will take care of us but you know what I mean." He joked smiling at you.
I giggled, and even though I felt like ass, it was nice to know that Dave would clear his whole day for me if I needed it, I know how hard he works to make sure he has footage for the vlog and it takes up a lot of time. It made me feel a little sad he was putting off work for me.
"It's okay really, I can take care of myself I know you had some bits planned with Zane today you should do that." I said getting dressed in the clothes and then reaching for a brush to calm the rats nest that was my hair.
"Absolutely not. Besides cute couple videos are good click bait." He said winking at me before walking out of the bathroom. "Finish getting ready then we have movies to get to."
I smiled to myself, maybe being sick wasn't so bad. I finished brushing my hair before throwing it up in a pony tail and following where David went.
"What's on the schedule" I asked walking into the living room, interested in what movies he had planned. I fell into the couch next to where David was. He opened up his arms welcoming me to cuddle in close to him.
"Well we of course have to do 50 firsts dates, and then I have a couple 90s rom coms that the fans told me I had watch" He said pulling me close into him. I took a deep breath as I usually did when he pulled in so I could smell his cologne that I had bought him on our first anniversary, this time though my nose was so stuffed up I couldn't even breath through it.
"Can we get some soup?" I asked wanting to do whatever I could to break up the cloudiness in my head.
"It's in the process of being made." David said looking back into the kitchen where Taylor could be seen stirring a pot of what I assumed was good ole canned chicken noodle soup.
"Just like mom made.": I joked resting my head on his shoulder, while he moved his hand to my outer thigh absent mindedly rubbing his thumb back and forth over my skin. Everything about him was comforting.
About five minutes into the movie Taylor brought me over a bowl of soup with some crackers and a water. "Here you go." She said kindly, placing the food on the coffee table.
"Thank you so much Taylor I know you're an assistant and not a personal servant don't feel like you have to do anything extra for me." I said gratefully moving to pick the bowl up and bring it closer to me.
"It's no worries I'm not just an assistant I'm a friend too and I wanna help you get better if you need anything tell me, or David will." She joked smiling at me and walking away to do actual work.
"She's good." David adding knowing she was exactly right.
I smiled, "Give that girl a raise." I said, only half joking as I brought my spoon to my mouth. I could feel the heat from the broth helping to break up the congestion in my body. "This is so good." I said slightly moaning at the relief. David just smiled at me and kissed my forehead before going back to watching the movie.
We sat in mainly silence while the movie played out, David pulling out the camera a couple times to get a couple cute shots. We had just finished the first one and were deciding what to watch next when Carly and Erin walked through the door. "Hey y/n, how do you feel?" Erin asked sitting next to me with a bag in hand.
"I'm fine it's just a head cold or something, I feel like David told people I was on my death bed" I laughed, every half hour or so today I had gotten a text from a different person asking if I was okay after David said he couldn't hang out.
"We'll we still wanted to help you get better so we picked up a couple things for you and then we will be out of your hair." She said hanging the bag over to me.
"You didn't have to do that. Thank you so much guys!" I said sitting up to see whats inside. I pulled out a couple bath bombs off the very top.
"Those are my favorites when I don't feel good they're relaxing but also fresh so it clears you up." Carly stated. I smiled at her out of gratitude before reaching in for the last couple of items, a face mask, tea and essential oils.
"Thank you so much that was so thoughtful." I said reaching to give both of them hugs.
"Here let me take one and I’ll get a bath going for you." David said grabbing a bath bomb and walking out of the room. "Thank you." I said as he walked away.
Carly and Erin stayed for only a couple minutes more telling me once I was well again they wanted to do a video together which was the least I could do to repay them for their kindness. I said good bye to them and walked in the bathroom where David was stirring the water around to make sure it wasn't too hot.
"I put the essential oils in the diffuser in the bedroom for you once you get out. I'll be editing let me know if you need anything." He said kissing you on the cheek and walking out of the bathroom. I was so grateful for everything he was doing and it made me happy that he would be able to get a little work done too. I quickly got undressed this warm bath definitely more relaxing and helpful than the boiling shower i took this morning.
I took my time to do a face mask and deep condition my hair and just relax listening to peaceful music. I had lost track of time when I heard a knock on the door and David opened it.
"I'm done editing and I was just checking on you." He said coming over and sitting on the floor next to the tub so he was eye level with me, he reached over and starting running his hands through my hair.
"You're done already?!" I asked shocked, it usually took him hours to finish emitting and there was no way I had taken that long in the tub already. He laughed at my shock,
"I only had a little left to do” He said looking my body up and down. "You know even when you're sick ... you're still the most beautiful girl I've ever seen." He said softly looking back up at my eyes.
"I don't know how I got so lucky." I replied.
"I'm the lucky one." He retorted.
"No I really mean that David. Thank you so much for everything you do for me, and for inviting me into your life. You changed my whole world, giving me experiences and friends i would of never had otherwise." I said almost choking up as my heart started to feel so full for all the things I had in life.
"Alright that's enough the cold medicine is making you loopy." He joked, kissing my head. "You are my world." He stood up and walked towards the door “When you're done come to bed. I just wanna lay with you for a while."
All I wanted to do in that moment was be in his arms. The bath had helped a lot and I was feeling better. I quickly got dressed again after drying off. Throwing my hair up in a bun and meeting David back out in his room I smiled at him as I saw him already lying there phone in hand looking at tweets.
"Everyone loved the cute couple insta stories" He said back at me moving over so there was room in the bed for me. I got under the covers and snuggled in close to him. He kissed the top of my head and wrapped his arm around me running his hand up and down my back and he switched between social media apps.
I don't know if I've ever felt more content in my life. I didn't even care that I was sick anymore, this moment everything felt perfect.

“Wet Sugar” [Part 15 of 30]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
youtube
"We at the family reunion Tellin' jokes and playin' spades Uncle Dave is on the barbecue grill Grandma braggin 'bout the blanket she made For the new baby on her way Even though the daddy ain't really ready This child is coming, anyway, yeah
Neicey made her famous potato salad, somehow it turns out green Maybe it's all the scallions, could be the celery But oh, Uncle Jerome loves it Hey baby baby, here comes my favorite, my favorite cousin He says he doing fine, takin' it one step a day but in my heart I know it ain't that way…"
Jill Scott – "Family Reunion"
The fifty-pound block of solid cement exploded in a flash of smoke and blue pulsing rays of vibranium firepower.
"Whoo, shit!" Erik yelled feeling the vibratory power of Klaue's new and improved arm.
He turned off the remote-control unit in his hand and ran his fingers along the closed seam of the pale arm.
"Fuck yeah," Erik mumbled to himself as his fingers felt the slow whirring of the device powering down. The arm itself was just faintly warm. He was confident he had solved Klaue's problem. He opened and closed the arm numerous times for a full hour to see if there were any glitches in sealing up properly but there was none. He decided to do pulse glass breaking tests for the next day.
Feeling good, Erik took out a Glock from the gun rack and fired off some shots against a few targets.
"Killmonger, everything okay down there?"
Yani's voice on the intercom was always a treat.
"All good, baby. I'm done."
"You want something to drink?"
"Bring me a beer, please."
Within ten minutes Yani was strolling up to him holding a cold bottle of Carib Lager. He chugged it down and he wasn't surprised when she handed him another.
He kissed her on the lips and she wiped a bit of beer liquid from her mouth. He put the second bottle down.
"You ever shot a gun before?" he asked.
"No."
"Want to?"
Her eyes took in the clean-looking Glock in his hand.
"Guns scare me."
"They should, but you should know how to handle one around here."
She nodded. He walked back up to the gun wall and grabbed earplugs and small safety glasses for her.
"Put these on," he said handing her the protective items.
She stuffed the plugs in her ear and adjusted the yellow high-def glasses over her eyes.
"Watch me," he said.
He chose an easy target for her, a wide metal post. Holding the gun properly, he exaggerated his technique so she would clearly see what he needed her to do to stay safe and talked her through his actions.
He let off a few rounds, then walked over to fix a new target for her. Returning to her side, Erik took the magazine out of the gun, made sure the chamber was clear and allowed her to handle the weapon safely so she could get used to the weight of it in her hand. She was an apt pupil.
"Put the webbing of your hand as high on the backstrap of the pistol as you can…yeah…just like that. Now make sure the knuckle of your middle finger goes under the trigger guard here…yeah…good. That's the point of contact I was telling you about. You sure you haven't handled a gun before?"
"Nope. Not a real one."
"You lookin' real comfortable with that piece in your hand, girl. Make sure that slide is in line with your…yeah…your forearm. Good. That'll help you control your recoil. Now get your weak hand in place."
She moved her left hand in a forty-five-degree angle and placed it in position. Her left pointer finger went under the trigger guard too and he saw her breathing speed up.
"You're doing fine. No bullets in there. This is just you getting to know the gun like a new friend. Okay?"
She nodded, her eyes very serious, and her lips pressed tight with focus.
"Roll your thumb down target…"
She did as she was told and he saw her relax once the gun felt more secure in her hands.
"Get your stance correct, strong side and support side."
Yani adjusted her legs accordingly.
"Bend those knees…"
Her chunky knees looked cute in her cutoffs as they bent to give her flexibility in movement. She was sweating in her tank top, more so from nerves than the sun he was guessing.
"Doing good, Ma. Aim for your target…don't lock your elbows all the way out, Yani. That recoil will start pushing you back if you do that. You're going to let off multiple shots—"
Yani stood straight and pointed the gun down and out toward him.
"I don't want to do this," she said.
"What's wrong? You're being safe—"
"I just…I just thought about when Chez had that guy put a gun on you…"
"I'm ex-military. Had a lot of guns on me. I'm still here. You can do this. I won't push you if you really don't want to try it."
He reached out for the gun and took it from her. Her hands went to her hips and she stared at the target.
"We can do it another time," he said.
Her right sneaker tapped on the ground and her eyes leveled back on his.
"Can we just practice this part and not shoot yet?"
"Whatever you want."
He watched her work the gun with practice grip and stance moves and after some time she seemed to ease into more comfort.
"I do the video shooting with Kendall, but it feels different when the real thing is in my hand," she said.
"I hear ya," he said.
Her eyes sought his again.
"I think I want to shoot it now."
"Okay. I'll put the magazine back in and you can fire some rounds. Stop any time you want, just make sure the aim is downrange at all times. Understand?"
"Yeah."
He armed the gun and handed it back to her. Her hands were steady.
She smiled at him.
Standing behind her, he watched her get her grip and stance correct.
"Nervous?" he asked.
"I don't want to drop it and have it bounce and kill us," she said.
"I'm right here with you. You already have a nice grip on it. Plant your stance…"
Yani aimed for her target.
"Whenever—"
She squeezed off rounds that swiss-cheesed the target very close to the center. He stared at her for a long time, even after she aimed the gun down the way he showed her.
"Good?" she asked.
"Guess that video playing helped," he said.
"It wasn't as hard as I thought. I could feel my arms straightening and I felt that push back. I want to try again."
The hard plink sound of metal striking metal echoed with muffled sound from the earplugs.
Yani seemed pleased with herself.
Erik taught her how to load the Glock and how to check the chamber. She shot more rounds and tried to improve her accuracy. By the time they were done, his second beer was hot from the sun.
"Can you show me how to use one of those big guns? The AK's?" she said.
Well damn.
He brought down two different assault weapons and showed her how they worked and let her practice her grip and stance again. Before he let her try firing them, he had to let her know about his trip.
"I'm going to leave next Sunday."
Her eyes seemed to dim. A crease marred her forehead.
"How long?"
So quiet. Her voice and her whole demeanor reminded him of his mother whenever his father left them for thirty days once a year until his death. At the time, his parents fed him the lie that his father was going to work in Atlanta for a month. N'Jobu Udaku pretended to be Joseph Stevens, a popular Oakland barber. So popular that his teaching services were needed at a barber college down south. It was just the way it was. Until Erik learned the truth in his father's journals that his play Uncle gave him before he made the decision to go to the Naval Academy. Truth, always stranger than fiction, was encased in the ruse of his Baba being in Georgia. As a boy, Erik had no clue of what his mother went through every time his father left. Her anxiety over his father leaving didn't make sense, but looking at Yani, he saw his mother again. The worry of would he return safe and sound. Would something or someone keep him from coming back to her?
"A week at the most. I have to return something to Klaue in person—"
"Whatever it is that you have been blowing up down here?" she asked.
"Yeah."
"You won't be in danger again, will you? Not like last time…"
"Any work with him is dangerous. You know that."
"Will I be able to talk to you while you are gone?"
" I can't risk—"
She held up her hands.
"The less I know, the better…right?"
"Yeah."
"What if something happens to you…would anyone tell me?"
"No."
Yani shoved the AK-47 back into his hand, picked up the empty and half-full beer bottles and headed back up toward the house they shared.
"Yani!"
He put all the weapons away and secured them before he went after her.
###
Erik found Yani checking on Sydette who was still fast asleep for her afternoon nap in her room. The shades were drawn to block out the bright sun, and the baby was on her back with her thumb stuck in her mouth and her fingers curled around a soft pale green baby blanket.
"You know my life. You know there are risks for me," he said.
Yani walked away from the bed and out of the bedroom. He followed her into the living room and out onto the porch. She sat on their favorite lounge seat and he perched up next to her.
"Mi know what you tell," she said.
"It's just a delivery."
"What if he won't let you come back?"
"He don't control me like that."
"But you're loyal to him. He said that all the time. You always do what him wants. If him tell you stay wherever he is, would you do it?"
Purpose. The long game. Righting a wrong. Justice.
"I would."
"Then none of this is real. My love doesn't mean anything to you."
"Love is everything. It's why I do what I do. I know that doesn't make sense to you, but I have to do what I do to finish something that was started a long time ago. I can't stop…this work…I can't…I have this contract that I have to finish. Until I do that, nothing can stand in my way—"
"So we are in your way?"
"You know that's not what I mean. I finish my contract and then…I can do what I want."
"Does that mean me and Sydette?"
"If it's meant to be."
"Are we meant to be, Killmonger?"
"I dunno. Nothing is guaranteed in this life. But I'm trying to hold onto you and that little girl sleeping in this house as long as I can."
"Can you even tell me where you are going?"
"Far from here. Don't ask me anything more about it."
"Mi no like this."
"I know."
He pulled her onto his lap.
"You just study and take care of Sydette. The compound is yours. I need you to stay in the middle house while I'm gone. If I can contact you, I will. It'll be seven to ten days max."
She shook her head.
"Don't talk about it. Just go and come back."
She threw her arms around his neck and he kissed her throat and let his lips drop down to her shoulder. She straddled him and accepted the wet touches of his lips on her skin.
"I'm coming back to you."
"I won't believe it until it's true," she said lifting her neck to accommodate his mouth on her warm skin.
He ran his lips down her side and lifted up her tank top and gave soft teasing kisses down her side. He nipped at the side of her right breast and pulled her top off all the way. She lifted up and eased her shorts and panties off and kicked away her trainers.
Her eyes avoided his face as she pulled off his shirt and then licked his lips with her eager tongue. He opened his mouth and let his tongue slide against hers. Her nails drew soft lines in his scalp.
"All this new growth. I need to palm roll alla this for you," she whispered in his ear.
"I should cut it off. Start fresh."
"I can cut it if you want," she said.
His mouth suckled the side of her waist as she raised up and leaned over his right side, her head resting on the lounge seat headrest.
He lifted her up and unfastened his pants, slipping them off and pulling her back down on his lap.
There were so many positions they had done together, but his favorite with her was this, relaxing outside with a view of the ocean and her body writhing on his lap, his lips pressed into her side, licking her there, tasting her skin there, feeling her weight holding him down.
He felt himself stiffen with slow ease and he took his time touching her all over. She kept her head resting near his neck and just circled her waist. He reached down and adjusted his erection between her legs. His fingers traced up her back, one hand cradling her neck, the other resting on her backside. Everything he needed in life at that moment was right there on his lap. He let his head fall back and turned his face to look at hers and then he was looking down at her plush rump.
She lined her face up with his and finally looked at him.
"I love you," she said.
"Love you," he said and sank his tongue deep in her mouth.
They couldn't part their lips from one another. Erik listened to the crashing of the surf down below, could smell the lush bloom of island flowers around the house, tasted the saliva exchanged between them flavored with beer. His fingers pinched the tips of her breasts and her nipples pebbled like ornamental jewels. A shivery breath left her mouth and he eyed her breasts as they jiggled slightly. Her body was fuller since they had been living together, their rich meals and unrushed life adding pounds to her frame. It became evident when her bikini tops couldn't fully hold her breasts and her shorts couldn't fasten around her belly like before. When she walked around the house, her thighs always touched, and Lord have mercy when she swam naked and he caught sight of her walking into the surf, her rump bouncing, he could just die right there a happy man.
He went for her lips again. When he couldn't handle kissing her anymore and she had her mouth sucking on his neck, he lifted her up by her waist.
"Lemme cum in your pussy," he sighed.
She reached between their legs and held his manhood. Sitting down on him, letting his inches split her folds, her heat engulfing him with tight squeezes until she rested on his balls, Erik held his breath. Yani's face returned to the headrest, and his eyes watched the sea once more.
"I can hear that pussy, baby," he groaned.
She shifted her weight and gripped the back of the lounger dropping her ass on him hard. His heels pressed into the floor and his legs shook.
"Ooh, pound that pussy on me, girl…."
His hands gripped each ass cheek and he held on for dear life. She leaned back and the sweet look on her face forced him to unravel under her.
Gasping for breath he stared up at her and saw the worry was back in her face again. He flipped her over and pressed his face into her soft folds. His tongue and fingers had her lustful cries tingling his ears, but even as he brought her to completion, a lingering sadness enveloped her and he couldn't shake it away from her.
"Stop worrying," he whispered in her ear.
She could only throw her arms around his neck and he held her for a long time.

Yani had some of the cheating-est cousins on that side of the world.
Erik was paired up with her cousin Kendall for a game of Spades, but two of Yani's other male cousins, Dex and Boogie took every opportunity to subtract points, make up points and deny reneging on various hands.
"I'm done!" Erik shouted.
Dex and Boogie laughed as he jumped up from a folding chair and grabbed a cold ginger beer from a cooler next to Twyla who was waiting to play with Cee Cee. Erik's eye's darted to find Yani making the rounds with her family on the beach.
Their arrival had felt a little awkward when they met up with her parents and a few Aunties and Uncles. Erik carried a twelve-pack of beer and two family-size bags of potato chips. The stares they gave him made Yani nervous until Twyla rescued them by pulling them away and taking Sydette from Yani's hands.
He felt eyes on him everywhere he walked, and for a time, her male relatives were cool to him until Kendall arrived. He got along well with Kendall, and once the others saw Kendall and Twyla treating him like family, the tension eased. Mainly from the younger family members. The elders sucked their teeth and whispered.
"Your cousins are shady at the table," he said.
Yani sipped on a coke and kept her eyes on Sydette who played in the sand with some younger children.
"Told you not to play with them. Go play dominoes with Dulan and them. You want anything more to eat?"
"Nah. I'm good for now. Full."
Yani walked to a grouping of folding tables filled with food. Yani's Uncle Monty grilled some chicken and the enticing aroma of BBQ sauce and charred meat swirled around them. He watched her fix herself a new plate.
"Gyal, look at you…all big and fat and happy looking. Yuh wit pickney again?"
Erik saw Yani's face freeze with embarrassment. She stopped in front of two women seated on a picnic bench across from where Erik was seated. Yani's eyes caught his and he could only stare helpless.
Yani's mother's head swiveled their way, her eyes tight. The gathering seemed to come to a halt until a familiar voice cut through the discomfort.
"Auntie!' Yani called out moving quickly to Leona who swept onto the beach with more people. Leona gave a shout to folks and hugged Yani before her eyes rested on his face.
"Mr. Killmomnger!" Leona shouted giving him a big hug.
"Hey you two, why the looks?" Leona said to the two women on the bench. Yani's mother walked over handing Leona a cool bottle of water.
"Your niece, she nuh look big? New baby?"
Leona stared at Erik first and then her eyes slyly took in Yani's figure. Yani sucked her teeth.
"I'm not getting big like that," Yani squeaked.
The women made chiding sounds and looked away. Paula put her hands on her hips.
"Yani is going to school in the fall. She nuh going down that road…tuh."
"Stop trying to shame mi niece," Leona said, "you look good, Yani. How's the compound?"
"Good. Excuse me."
Yani walked over to Erik and sat down. She ate her food and made no eye contact with her Aunts.
"They always have something to say," Yani said stuffing curried chicken roti in her mouth. Erik threw his arm around her chair.
"You look good to me, baby," he said kissing her cheek.
"Mi look fat to you?"
"I said you look good—"
"But, I have put on a lot of weight—"
"Good weight, trust."
"They will tell everyone I'm pregnant by you."
"Don't trip."
"I knew this was a bad idea. I should've told Mommy I was sick or something."
She finished her plate as Sydette came waddling over and reaching for any leftovers. Yani let her chew on a tiny piece of her eaten roti.
Erik took her plate and threw it away and grabbed another soda for her. He handed it to her as Twyla sauntered over.
"Fitting in?" Twyla said grinning.
"I'm cool," he said.
"They do every new person like that. You are a real treat for the gossip," she said.
"Them so rude," Yani said scooping Sydette onto her lap. She drank from her soda and let the baby have some.
"Oh, shit," Yani said.
Her eyes looked past her parents and toward the boardwalk. Erik looked to see what caught her attention and he felt his jaw get tight.
Chez.
He was alone and dressed nicely in board shorts and a snazzy designer t-shirt. He walked up to Yani's parents and greeted them. They didn't seem happy to see him, but they allowed him to linger. Yani's mother pointed toward Yani and Chez walked over. Erik stood up glaring at him.
"What are you doing here?" Yani said.
She held Sydette tight. Chez reached down and touched one of his daughter's twists.
"Hey Detty! Daddy's here."
Chez gave a cautious glance at Erik.
"Can I hold mi pickney?" he asked.
"Thought I told you not to be around her—"
"Chill, nigga. It's Sunday. Been taking her money to Twyla—"
"I told you to bring it to the house later when I got home," Twyla said, just as agitated as Erik was feeling.
"I have a show tonight, won't be able to come later. I know y'all come here so I'm just dropping it off."
Chez reached into his pocket and pulled out an envelope. Twyla snatched it.
"Time to leave," Erik said.
"Can I hold mi pickney for a minute?"
Chez looked at Yani.
"I said leave—"
"Killmonger…please. I don't want a scene."
She stood up and handed Sydette to Chez.
Erik stepped away from them and Leona sidled up to him.
"He won't act up here," she said to him.
"I know he won't—"
"Calm yourself and talk to me."
Erik kept his eyes on Chez. Yani stood near him with Twyla right next to her.
"Killmonger…"
Leona's voice was soothing and his frayed nerves simmered down.
"She looks happy, my niece. Treatin' her well?"
"Yeah."
"All three of you getting along?"
Erik smiled.
Leona regarded their surroundings.
"Family hot and cold?"
"Yeah."
Erik could see some strain on Yani's face. Sydette's face was calm and focused on Yani's. Chez rocked her in his arms.
"Baba," Sydette said when Erik stepped next to Yani again. The baby raised her hands up to Erik.
"Baba?" Chez said. His eyes turned cold quickly.
Yani took Sydette from his arms and stepped back from him. Erik did his best to remain passive, but he could feel his blood pressure rising.
"Mi have her money. You held her. We done," Yani said.
Eyes watched them all.
Chez turned to Erik.
"This is my daughter. Not yours. You playin' house wit mi Fam—"
"Nah, you were playing house. I suggest—"
"Not here, not here…" Twyla hissed, her eyes taking in the stares.
"You wrong for this, Yani. Hear?" Chez said.
Yani broke eye contact with him and her eyes found Erik's.
"I want to see my daughter more than once a week. I have a right to have her with me in mi own house. I'll take you to court—"
"Didn't you hear me say not here?" Twyla said stepping closer to Chez.
"Take me to court then—"
"I've been keeping up with my payments—"
"Yo, let's go talk over here…" Kendall said.
Kendall threw an arm around Chez and guided him away from Yani. Twyla followed behind them.
"You okay?" Erik asked.
"Yeah. He'll take me to court."
"I don't trust him."
"I don't either."
"Don't worry about court."
"He did that to shame me. Just like them…trying to say I'm pregnant."
"He's gone don't think about him."
"Yani. Is everything okay?"
Paula watched her daughter and held her hands out for Sydette. Yani handed her over.
"Everything's fine Mommy."
Paula cut her eyes at Erik and walked away with the baby. Yani stuck Chez's envelope in her purse and sat back down. He sat down next to her and held her hand. His eyes scanned the boardwalk. Chez was gone. Twyla and Kendall spoke to one another near the grill.
"Those two always have your back," Erik said.
"My faves. They do look out for me. Shit. I wish Chez would just go away. He does this right when you are leaving."
"You are safe at the compound. You can have Leona come stay with you if you want."
"Can we just go home now?"
Erik stood up and held her hand.

Joburg was cold.
The driver Klaue sent to pick Erik up at the airport was tight-lipped with pale leathery skin. After a forty-minute drive, Erik switched cars with another driver who dropped him off at a busy bar in the main part of the city. He waited thirty minutes and much to his displeasure, Huntsman arrived and led him to another non-descript car where they drove to a private ranch surrounded by intense security.
Huntsman dropped him off with his large duffle bag and drove off. Erik was frisked and his duffle scanned before he was escorted inside on an electric golf cart. Left in front of the main door, Erik waited for entrance.
"Killmonger!"
Klaue hugged him and grabbed his duffle bag.
"Let's not waste time. Give it to me!" The man said.
Klaue's breath was foul with liquor and his eyes were bloodshot.
"Maybe you should wait until you are sober," Erik suggested.
"I'm fine, mate."
Erik dug inside his bag and pulled out a large figurine. He broke it on the floor and pulled out Klaue's prosthetic. Klaue yanked it out of his hand and admired it.
"Nice," he said.
Pulling off the arm he was using, Klaue put on the new one. Erik showed him how to activate it. Klaue stepped in front of a large round mirror that hung above the roaring fireplace he had going. A flash of blue shot out and the large mirror shattered and fell in pieces in front of the fire.
"Excellent! I feel like blowing more shit up! Let's go outside!" Klaue shouted.
"What the hell is going on? Killmonger!"
Erik turned toward the stairs.
Linda walked down and when she saw his face, a huge smile came across hers.
"Hello stranger," she said.
Klaue ran out of the front door.
"What happened to the mirror?"
Erik pointed to the front door.
Sultry in her sweater and tight pants, Linda sauntered over to him.
"How long are you here for?"
"Not long."
Her eyes were coy.
"Just enough time to catch up," she said.

klaus/dave + "You deserve so much more then you think you do."
(you can also find this story on my AO3)
“Are you sure you want to do this, Klaus?” Dave asked, hovering on his right shoulder.
“Yes.” Klaus answered absentmindedly, “I mean, not really, but here we are, right?” he let out a dry laugh.
Behind the closed doors, sitting on the couch, were all his siblings, probably getting irritated by how long Klaus was making them wait. He’d been surprised when they all agreed to meet him, specially Luther, who never seemed to listen to him.
Klaus breathed out and frowned at the door. The dark wood seemed to be mocking him today more than usually.
He hoped they would let him speak. Most times he was fine whenever one of them would talk over him, but this was important. Klaus had the feeling they would listen, though, since they all came.
The door swung open and Klaus was brought back to the moment. Diego was standing on the other side, looking at Klaus up and down with a frown on his face. He probably looked like a maniac; he would give Diego that.
He’d been pacing the hall for the last ten minutes, worrying his lower lip between his teeth. His hair was also probably a mess from all the times he combed it anxiously. All that, plus the fact that he didn’t get a wink of sleep the entire night.
“We were wondering where you’d gotten yourself into.” Diego said. He gave a quick nod in acknowledgement to Dave’s presence before turning his attention back to his brother.
“Uh, yeah, I was— yeah.” Klaus glanced quickly at Dave, who smiled and nodded approvingly before the two of them Diego to the living room.
As he expected, all his siblings were waiting for him, not exactly sitting on the couch, but close enough.
In fact, only Vanya was sitting down. Five was lying on the couch next to her, occupying the rest of it and not caring for the sour looks the others were shooting in his direction.
“So, what was it that you wanted to share?” Luther said, voice ringing too harshly on Klaus ears.
“Uh…” now, with all of them looking at him with impatience badly hidden in their features, Klaus was rethinking the importance of this meeting. Maybe he should have called them instead of asking to come personally, God knows how busy Allison was with her work and child.
Before his mind went spiraling downwards, Dave interlaced their fingers and squeezed his reassuringly. Klaus met his gaze and smiled, knowing that he had support no matter what.
“I’ve been going to AA meetings.”
There. He said it. He felt a heavy weight lifting from his shoulders.
He’d been to five sessions in total until now and they’ve been working like magic. That, and the never-ending support of the most amazing boyfriend. He has already been able to let go of the heavier drugs, and tone down the amount of alcohol he drank daily. All in all, his life was finally getting better.
The AA instructor had been so proud, Dave had been so proud, and more importantly, he was proud of himself. He never believed he would be able to get sober again, but things were starting to change.
Dave suggested telling his siblings, but he was the one who decided to bring them all together and commemorate. After all, they never been kind on him about his addictions, so he thought they would be pleased to find out Klaus was changing for the best.
So, Klaus was taken aback when Luther answered in the same tone as before.
“You act like this is a big deal.” He said, breaking the silence.
He frowned at Luther and said, as matter of fact, “It is.”
He looked around the room, not believing what he heard, waiting for one of the others to take a stand, because surely, they couldn’t possibly agree with Luther.
But no one said anything.
His throat closed and sweat started forming on his palms. Klaus was expecting a lot of reactions, but apathy wasn’t one of them. He dared a look at Dave and the pure rage he found there was grounding, even if he did feel helpless.
“I can’t believe this.” Dave said, probably because Klaus didn’t find it on himself to speak up.
“Congratulations?” Vanya tried, shrugging slightly.
“You must be joking.” He deadpanned. Dave was now shaking next to him, so Klaus tried to calm him with a nudge of his hand.
It worked for approximately five seconds before Diego opened his mouth.
“What do you want us to say to Klaus?” he pointed an accusatory finger at Klaus, who felt it deep in his soul, “Congratulations on doing something you should have done a long time ago? For getting your shit together?”
Klaus felt numb. He didn’t want this; he just wanted his siblings to know how he was doing. But turned out they didn’t care as much as he thought they did, and really, even before he didn’t think they cared a lot.
“Don’t speak to Klaus like this.” Dave’s voice was so sharp it could cut diamond, “You have no idea how hard it has been for him. God, I cannot believe I was the one to suggest he told you guys. You clearly don’t care. How DARE!” he shouted, and breathed in, closing his eyes and calming down before speaking again, more level this time, “You know, I never believed when Klaus said you were jerks, but now I see it. Klaus deserves so much more than you all. Until you try and put yourself in his place, we aren’t speaking with you. Bye.”
And they left. Their steps through the mansion hall was the only sound the house made until they shut the front door with a loud thud and walked back to Dave’s apartment.
The entire trip back was spent in silence. Klaus didn’t know what was going on in Dave’s head, but the man still hadn’t let go of his hand, so he wasn’t completely lost in rage.
Klaus himself didn’t know how to feel. He should have expected his siblings to react poorly, he really did. But that still didn’t damp the hollow numbness inside of him. On the other hand, Dave had stood up for him.
And that was…
Well, it was—
They only spoke again after their apartment door shut close with a gentle click.
“I’m sorry I lost my temper back in the mansion, Klaus.” Dave slumped his shoulders, face growing miserable. “I’m—”
“I love you.” Klaus blurted out. Uh oh, Klaus felt his spine growing cold, that was not something you blurt. Ohhh boy.
Dave froze, blinking dumbly at Klaus.
“What?”
“I, uh—realize I’ve never said before, and I didn’t mean too, but now that out, I need to own it, right?” He laughed nervously. When Dave continued to stare at without saying anything, he panicked. “It’s just, what you said. Back in the house. I’m… well, I’m not used to having people standing up for me. Ever. So uh, it’s a nice change. And that’s not only why I love you. But it’s great that you care for me—Yeah. I’ll shut up now”
“I love you too.”
“Yo-you do?” Klaus could feel his heart beating out of his chest.
“I do. And that’s why it hurts so much watching all your siblings downplay you like that. Klaus,” and now Dave was right in front of him, breathing from the same air. His hands found Klaus’ and squeezed them gently, “you are the love of my life. I know you’re not perfect and neither am I, but you march on, you endure, and you survive. And I love you because of it.”
Klaus felt his lips trembling downwards and his eyes stinging with tears. Next thing he knew, his lips were on Dave’s as they shuffled their clothes off with clumsy yet anxious tugs. They stumbled on furniture until they found their way to the bedroom.
Dave pressed Klaus gently against the mattress and shucked the last of Klaus clothes, leaving him embarrassingly exposed with a hard on against his belly.
“I want to show you how much I love you.” Klaus shivered as Dave’s lips brushed against his ear. He kissed softly Klaus’ neck and caressed his naked torso, hands going south but halted once they got to his pelvis.
Klaus groaned and buckled his hips, trying to make Dave’s hand slide downwards, but the hand stayed stubbornly in place, playing with his pubic hair.
“How is this showing love.” Klaus grunted, before nibbling at Dave’s ear. In retaliation, Dave moaned and bared his neck for Klaus.
“Never said love doesn’t tease.” Dave refuted once he recomposed from Klaus’ neck attack.
But even though he said that, Dave finally moved his hand past the pubic hair and wrapped it around Klaus throbbing cock. His entire body shivered with pleasure at the small pressure Dave was applying with his hand, and Klaus couldn’t hold back a moan escape his lips and into Dave’s mouth the moment he gave the first strokes.
He could come just like that, Klaus realized in midst of all the pleasure fogging his mind. With only Dave’s hand and long kisses and the warmth of his body against his own. He would take whatever Dave would give.
“I want to worship your body.” Dave declared out loud, “I want you to know how much I love every, inch, of, you.” He said in between kissing his way down Klaus’ body. “Because this is what you deserve.” And now his face was centimeters close to Klaus’ dick, breath catching against the flushed skin, making Klaus’ have goosebumps.
Klaus only moaned in answer to his declarations. There weren’t words he could say that could express what he was feeling, so he just nodded and tangled one of his hands on Dave’s short bangs.
Dave’s lips brushed fleetingly over the head of his cock before his tongue pressed against the tip. Klaus hissed and tossed his head back, enjoying the feeling of the soft tongue lapping over the crown and down its length until it found the balls.
A shiver ran through him when Dave took one of his balls in his mouth and sucked it, making Klaus’ grip on Dave’s hair to grow tighter.
“Fuuuuck, Dave.” He whined, opening his eyes –when did he close them, he wondered– to look down at Dave. His eyes were pouring lust and love and when he looked back at Klaus while fondling his tongue between the balls, Klaus almost came at the expression alone.
Without any more preamble, Dave took Klaus’ entire cock into his mouth and Klaus moaned breathlessly when he started sucking. He usually was the one giving the blowjobs, and really, he enjoyed it, but receiving them gave him another kind of pleasure mixed with a warm feeling in his heart.
It wasn’t everyone who cared enough for him to pleasure him with care. Or at all.
For Dave to be sucking and bobbing, giving Klaus gratuitous pleasure because he wanted to, meant as much for Klaus as their declaration of love. It showed that Dave cared, truly, about him.
Klaus could feel his orgasm building up in his belly not long after that. Dave was sucking and lapping his tongue over his sensitive head, looking focused on his task when Klaus’ hips started to thrust forward on its own.
“I—I’m coming, D-dave.” He warned and tried to get Dave’s mouth away from him, because any second now he would be spilling, but Dave shook his hand away and stubbornly worked his way down on Klaus’ cock again, until his nose was buried in dark hair.
Dave let out a moan and the vibration was enough to tip Klaus off edge. He came with a shout, hands tight on Dave’s hair as the man slurped through Klaus orgasm, giving him a few more waves of pleasure before backing away.
When he came back to himself, Dave was breathing hard next to him, arms wrapped around Klaus’ waist and bringing him closer. Klaus frowned and turned in the embrace, so he was facing Dave.
“What about you?” Klaus asked, looking at Dave’s waist and frowning even more when he saw his boyfriend was soft.
“I, uh, came while sucking you off.” Dave blushed.
Klaus burst out a laugh, feeling giddy with love and happiness.
“Gosh, I love you so much.”
Dave smiled fondly at him.
“I love you too.”

The Faja Essays.
May 22, 2020
We have all met people along the way who have influenced our lives. If I were to do a “top ten” of those who influenced mine, Garry Faja, my high school buddy who died last summer, would be high on the list. The son of working class parents whose father emigrated from Poland and repaired machinery at the Rouge plant, Garry went on to become the President and CEO of St. Joseph Mercy Health System. Recently, I and four or five of Garry’s friends and former healthcare profession colleagues were asked to write essays for a book about him being compiled by a friend from his grad school days at U-M. It is intended to be a keepsake for Garry’s only child. I was honored to be asked to contribute stories about Garry’s early life. Because several people who follow this space knew him well, I’ve posted the portion I wrote below:
First Impressions.
I had heard of Garry when he was an eighth-grader during the 1960-61 school year at St. Barbara’s grade school, near Schaefer and Michigan in East Dearborn. I was also in the eighth grade, attending St. Alphonsus school, just a mile or two to the north. Garry and I both had neighborhood reputations as athletes at our respective schools.
St. Al’s, however, had a much more successful CYO sports program than St. Barbara’s. We won our divisional football championship in the fall, going undefeated; we won our divisional basketball championship in the winter, going undefeated again; and we were 6 and 0 in the league in baseball that spring when we played Garry’s St. Barbara team on a sunny May afternoon at Gear Field.
That’s when--BAM--it happened: “Down go the Arrows…down go the Arrows…to Dearborn St. Barbara’s.” An old news clip from The Michigan Catholic, a popular weekly newspaper in those days, included the following snippet about CYO baseball that spring: “Dearborn St. Barbara’s came through with the upset of the week by knocking off St. Alphonsus, 11-8. St. Alphonsus still holds first place in the Southwest Division with a 6-1 mark.”
Neither Garry nor I could ever recall how either one of us performed on the field that day. We did recall, however, that we both looked forward to joining forces and playing sports together in high school. St. Barbara did not have a high school; St. Alphonsus did. Garry had long planned to enroll for his freshman year (1961-62) at St. Al’s, where his brother had been a track star, one of the top high school hurdlers in the state.
When we began high school in the fall of ‘61, I recall standing in the middle of the playground with my close friend Anthony Adams, along with Sam Bitonti and Patrick Rogers. I remember looking over to Calhoun, the side-street on which the high school was located, and noticed a small procession of cars dropping off new students from St. Barbara’s: twins Jim and Mike Keller, Sue Hudzik, Margo Tellish (Garry’s grade school girlfriend) and the “big fella” himself.
At the urging of Garry’s mother, Jim, Mike and Garry wore white shirts to school that day. “The boys” and I, on the other hand, wore multi-colored shirts (mine was purple), skinny ties, tight pants and pointed shoes. Looking like “the Sharks” from West Side Story, we approached the new kids, welcomed them to St. Al’s and shook their hands.
I’ve long thought that the way we were each dressed that day—Garry in his white button-down, me in my bold attire—portended the essence of what we would ultimately take away from each other at the completion of high school: for me, a determination to go about things the right way; for him, a touch of edginess.
The Person. The Scholar. The Athlete.
I never knew anyone who didn’t like Garry Faja. Unless, that is, you count a hulking bruiser by the name of “Bucyk” from Ashtabula, who elbowed our buddy Tony Adams in the chest and tried to intimidate us on the street at Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio. (Thank God we talked our way out of that one.) Otherwise, all the guys, girls, parents, nuns and coaches of the St. Al’s community loved Garry. He commanded respect on every level—for his heart, his intelligence, his athletic prowess.
Garry was a born leader. Despite being the “new guy,” he made such a good early impression in high school that he was elected president of the freshman class. He was a member of the student council all four years. And he was elected president of our senior class.
Garry was an excellent student, a member of the National Honor Society. He was neither class valedictorian--that was Lorraine Denby--nor the salutatorian--that was my girlfriend, Leslie Klein—but he had an extraordinary ability to “figure things out,” enabling him to excel at algebra, trigonometry, chemistry, the sciences. Moreover, he was highly disciplined. He had what our parents called “stick-to-it-tive-ness,” and it served him well at everything he did.
Garry was an organizer, a strategic thinker, who rallied for increased student attendance and crowd participation at high school games, involvement in a big-brother/big-sister-type mentoring program by seniors for freshmen, as well as causes he believed in. For example, it was Garry, with support from senior class leaders such as Larry Fitch, Vince Capizzo, Tony Adams and myself who compiled a list of “Ten Demands” that were presented to the school principal, Sister Marie Ruth, on behalf of the Class of ’65. It was, essentially, a protest against what we perceived to be unreasonable rules and disciplinary actions created by the priests and nuns of St. Alphonsus: single-file lines and “no talking” during change of class; locked school doors on sub-zero mornings during winter; mandatory daily Mass attendance, etc.
It was a daring, out-of-the box challenge to religious authority for a bunch of Catholic high school kids in those days. Predictably, our demands went nowhere and we were disciplined by having to stay inside the school for two weeks during recess, and, ironically, forbidden to attend daily Mass for two weeks. (The nuns showed us, I guess.)
Sometimes I wonder whether our youthful backlash, with Garry at the forefront, was an early tip-off to the kind of student thinking that morphed into the free-speech movement and anti-war protests that developed on college campuses across the country a year or two later.
As highly as Garry is remembered as a person and leader by St. Al’s Class of ’65, he is recalled by “old Arrows” for his basketball playing ability. He was a starter on the JV squad from day one of his freshman year. However, it took just a few weeks for the coaches to realize that he was talented enough to help the varsity. In Coach Dave Kline’s last year at St. Alphonsus, Garry was moved up to the varsity where he became “sixth man,” before being designated a starter at mid-season. That was big stuff, really big stuff, for a freshman at our school.
So what kind of player was Garry?
A mini-version of former U-M standout Terry Mills, in my estimation. He was a shade under 6’2” tall…thick-skinned…had a nice 15-foot jump shot…and an ability to use his derriere to “get position” under the basket. Any former St. Al’s player would tell you that Garry had game and a distinctive way of gliding up and down the court. For some reason, he also suffered severely sprained ankles more often than any other young athlete I have ever known.
Garry and I were starters together for three years under Coach Ron Mrozinski and were elected co-captains as seniors. Garry once said, “Lenny, we gotta be the team’s one-two punch.” I had speed and quickness, often stealing the ball at mid-court, and would dump it off to Garry who could be counted on to fill the lane. If he came up with the ball after the other team turned it over, I was to beat my man and streak toward the basket, expecting to receive the ball from Garry. We pulled that stuff off dozens of times each year. But we never realized our dream of winning the Catholic League’s A-West Division title and competing in the Catholic League tournament at the U-D Memorial Building (now called Calihan Hall).
However, Garry was named to the Dearborn Independent’s all-city basketball team after his senior season in 1965, a particularly special honor when you consider that St. Al’s had an enrollment of just 450 students, while most other first-teamers and “honorable mentions” on the all-city squad came from Class A schools with enrollments approaching 2,000 (Fordson, Dearborn High and Edsel Ford).
Happy Days at Camp Dearborn.
It was prime time for Dearborn during the early-to-mid ‘60s. The city had idyllic neighborhoods, spilling over with kids from the baby boom generation. The Ford Rouge plant was pumping out record numbers of vehicles, including an all-new “pony car” called the Mustang. And it owned Camp Dearborn (in Milford, 30-35 miles away), over 600 acres of rolling land with several man-made lakes, devoted to the recreational interests of Dearborn residents.
One of Camp Dearborn’s attractions was a narrow tract of land along the Huron River, designated for tent camping by teenagers. Dubbed “Hobo Village,” it was “chaperoned”—if you want to call it that--by a couple of disinterested college kids who worked day jobs, cleaning up the camp, and who lived in their own tent on the river.  As 15-year-olds in the summer of ’62, Garry and I got our first taste of independence when we camped there together for a week.
We set up a large tent, with two cots inside, that my Dad had purchased at a garage sale. We hung a Washington Senators pennant to decorate its interior. And we subsisted on Spam and eggs that we cooked in a Sunbeam electric fry pan (we had access to electricity) that my Mom let us borrow.
Every evening we’d cross the camp on foot en route to the Canteen for the nightly dances. We’d get “pumped” every time we heard “Do You Love Me” by the Contours playing in the distance. Our goal, of course, was to meet “chicks,” and we attended the dances for seven straight nights. However, I don’t recall that we ever met a girl. Or even mustered the courage to ask one to dance.
But that all changed in the summer of ’63.
Camp Dearborn had another, larger camping area for families called “Tent Village,” featuring hundreds of tents built of canvas and wood, set on slabs of concrete, each equipped with a shed-like structure that housed a mini refrigerator, mini stove and shelves for storing staples. The mother of our classmate, Patty O’Reilly, agreed to chaperone a tent full of St. Al’s girls, next to the O’Reilly family tent, while Tony’s mother, Mrs. Adams, agreed to chaperone a tent full of boys, next to the Adams family tent.
Tony, Vince Capizzo, Larry Fitch, Dennis Belmont, Garry and I occupied one tent. Our girlfriends occupied the other. Much to my amazement, my parents allowed me to take their new, 1963 Pontiac Bonneville coupe to camp for the week. So we had everything we needed—hot chicks, a hot car, rock ‘n’ roll, the dances and secret “make out” spots in the camp (Garry’s girlfriend at the time was a cute blonde St. Al’s cheerleader, Donna Hutson). It all made for perhaps the happiest days of our teenage lives.
And we did it all over again in the summer of ’64.
During both years we were involved in shenanigans galore: We threw grape “Fizzies” into the camp’s swimming pool…we switched out a hamburger from Vince’s hamburger bun and replaced it with a Gainsburger (dog food)…and one afternoon we took my Dad’s Bonneville out to a lonely, two-lane country road, just outside of General Motors’ proving grounds in Milford, where we floored the accelerator and topped out somewhere north of 100 mph. It scared the shit out of us when we hit a bird in mid-flight that splattered all over the windshield. Thank God for laminated safety glass. Thank God we lived to tell the tale.
Which brings me to the “edgy” side of the teenage Garry Faja.
Stupid Stuff We Did.
When Garry came to St. Al’s, my circle of friends became his circle of friends. And an eclectic group it was. Some were college bound kids. Some were mischievous pranksters. A few were borderline juvenile delinquents. None of us, including Garry, were immune to peer pressure. Consequently, we did some pretty stupid things. Here are a few examples:
The Toledo Caper--On a snowy Friday night after a basketball game during our sophomore year in high school, Garry, Jim “Bo” Bozynski and I trudged down Warren Avenue in our letter jackets, headed for Bo’s house, with the intention of ordering a pizza.
It was, perhaps, ten o’clock at night as we crossed the field in front of Bo’s home on Manor in five-inch-deep snow. As we looked ahead, Bo surmised that because the house looked dark, his parents were already in bed and likely asleep. That’s when he hatched a plan:
Bo proposed to enter the back door of his house, go to the kitchen and retrieve the keys to the Bozynski’s ’58 Mercury sedan. Then, he, Garry and I would quietly open the garage door, push the Merc down the snow-covered driveway and out to the street, where we would start the car…and head for Toledo.
Neither Garry nor I objected to the idea. Ultimately, the plan worked to perfection.
However, we were just 15 years old and had not yet obtained our driver’s licenses. Plus, Bo grabbed a bottle of Bali Hai wine that he had stashed in the garage. And, the snow kept falling…then turned to rain. We drove through slop and glop on Telegraph Road, made it to I-75 and took turns at the wheel between gulps of cheap wine as the windshield wipers labored to clear the mounting sleet piling up on the windshield.
I was sitting in the back seat, the bottle of Bali at my side, when the car slid out of control in the middle of the southbound freeway, somewhere in the downriver area. I don’t recall whether it was Bo or Garry who was driving at the time. But I do recall that the car made a 360, sliding across two lanes of freeway, before coming to an abrupt stop in a snow bank on the side of the road.
We got out of the car. No one had hit us. Miraculously, we had not hit anyone or anything. There was no damage to the Bozynski’s family car. That’s when three stupid teenagers got back into the vehicle, reversed course, headed for Dearborn, killed the engine as we turned into the Bozynski’s driveway, silently pushed the Merc back into the garage, and turned in for the night at Bo’s.
No one was ever the wiser.
The Speeding Ticket—Both Garry’s parents and mine were strict disciplinarians when it came to girls and dating, but they rarely said no whenever we asked to borrow the car. We had already turned 16 when on a beautiful June day we took a bus downtown, filled out some paperwork (or maybe took a test) and obtained our drivers’ licenses. My Dad used his old ’58 Chrysler to get to work that day and let me have the Bonneville for our use when I got home. So, Garry, Larry and I jumped in the car and headed to Rouge Park for some joy riding. As usual, we disconnected the speedometer and took the “breather” off the carb so that the exhaust would make a throatier sound when we put the pedal to the medal. When we got to the park, I turned the wheel over to Garry. It was not as though he ordinarily had a heavy foot, but he did that day. I doubt that Garry was at the wheel for more than a few minutes when he spotted the red flasher of a Detroit cop car in the rear-view mirror. We pulled over. The policeman was all business…and gave Garry a ticket for speeding. Garry’s parents were furious that afternoon when he got home and explained what had happened. Garry went to court and lost his license for 30 days.
The Stolen Cadillac--It was a beautiful summer evening and we were playing our usual game of pick-up basketball in the alley between Tony’s house and Schaefer Lanes. As I recall, four of us were just shooting around—Garry, Tony, Butch Forystek and me. Someone looked up and noticed that a 1963 Cadillac Coupe de Ville had turned off the side-street, Morross, and was slowly making its way up the alley. It stopped in front of us. Our pals, Joe McCracken and Gary “the Bear” Pearson, jumped out of the car. Turns out that the Caddy had been parked in front of a store, with the keys in the ignition. Joe and Bear got in, fired up the Caddy, and drove it to Tony’s. Then we all got in, took turns driving the car, and went to M&H gas station to buy Coke and chips. For reasons unknown, Joe and Bear unlocked the trunk of the car. Underneath the rear deck lid were piles of pressed clothes on hangers in plastic bags, apparently for delivery by someone who owned a dry-cleaning establishment. Also, there was a narrow envelope atop the pile of clothes. Someone opened it. Much to our amazement it contained over $200 in cash. We all got back into the car and headed for a cruise down Woodward Avenue. We stopped along the way at a sporting goods store to buy a new basketball. On northbound Woodward, as it passes over Eight Mile Road in Detroit, Butch grabbed a handful of cash and threw it out the window. (It seemed hilarious at the time.) Garry and I each took a five-dollar bill, reasoning that keeping such a paltry sum would not be considered a “mortal sin.” After taking turns doing “neutral slams” at red lights, we turned the car around, headed back to Tony’s, and continued playing basketball while Joe and the Bear ditched the car.
Again, no one was ever the wiser.
The Shotgun Incident—It was a crisp fall afternoon. Garry and I were hanging out with Tony in his parents’ basement, while Mr. and Mrs. Adams were away, attending some sort of event. Tony knew where Mr. Adams, a bird hunter, stored his shotgun, and proceeded to take it out to show us. There were also a few boxes of shells next to the gun. Tony informed us that his Dad owned a large piece of vacant property in an area that was known as Canton Township at the time. Knowing that his folks would not be home for several hours, we took the shotgun, a box of shells and placed it in the trunk of Mrs. Adams’ Ford Falcon. Off we went to the property in Canton. To hunt sparrows. Tony had seen his father load the gun. Otherwise, none of us had ever had any training in the proper handling of firearms. We knew enough to stand behind the guy with the shotgun in his hands. We took turns shooting into the trees. And bagged a couple of small birds. We eventually returned to Tony’s and put the shotgun away.
Yet again, no one was ever the wiser.
How The 53-Game Streak Started.
Most people know that Garry and I attended 53 straight Michigan-Michigan State football games together—whether in Ann Arbor or East Lansing—from 1965 to 2017. In fact, when the streak ended, we had been in-stadium for 48 percent of the Michigan-Michigan State games ever played.
Prior to the 2018 game, however, Garry determined that he would not be able to negotiate the steep ramps to the second deck of Spartan Stadium due to his failing knees. So, for the first time in our lives—since the days of black and white TV--we watched the game together on the tube. Here is the seemingly unremarkable way a renowned tradition began…plus a closing thought:
As I remember it, Tony Adams, Garry and I were sitting in my bedroom on a hot, steamy, mid-August afternoon, making future plans as we counted down the days to the beginning of our respective college careers. Tony would be going off to Western Michigan University as a business major. Garry would be attending U-M, majoring in engineering. While I planned to attend MSU to study journalism.
We had been athletes. Competitors to the core. Garry and I knew that our respective schools would rarely, if ever, be playing Western, but we certainly understood that he and I would be butting heads in the future, pulling for opposing teams in the Big Ten Conference every year. So, in a spirit of friendship, we mutually decided to get together every fall to attend the Michigan-Michigan State football game until one of us died.
It was as simple as that.
But when I think back to that muggy August afternoon when we made our pact, it seems a metaphor for all the goals, hopes and dreams we so often talked about between the games, joy rides, dances, pranks, parties and school projects we collaborated on at St. Al’s from 1961 to 1965. I often think, for example, about how Garry and I worked alternate days at my uncle’s store, from the spring of our junior year until the fall of our senior year, and shared tips and insights into how we each did our jobs—long before anyone ever used the term “best practices”--so that we could be the best damn stock boys my uncle ever had. As I hinted earlier, I will always be grateful to Garry for making a lasting contribution to my determination to do things the right way in life. And I’d like to think that Garry thought well of my tendency to “push the envelope” on the things I attempted, and that maybe I made a contribution to the release of his creative potential.
Miss you, Big Guy.
