What I love about Hobbie as an English Person (TW: Flashing Lights)

God does it feel great to have a British character in a none British film that actually feels, well, British.

So to the rest of the world, you guys have this stereotype of us being poor ass Conservative assholes that only care about ourselves and its sad that stereotype is so common because (appropriately) its a tiny percentage of people.

Now I'm not from London (another thing guys we're not all from London! It's like saying every American is from California) so I don't know every reference Hobbie made and I was born far after the punk movement so take my observations with a pinch of salt but...

He feels so real!

I work in retail so I see a lot of unique colourful characters and I've met people similar to Hobbie, you'd think they'd be intimidating or stone-faced but they're so chill and more likely to treat people in our work place with more respect then others. And I totally believe Hobbie would too (he's punk he has to).

I love all the little references in the way he speaks, I find it hilarious that the film had to translate what a jumper is or other things I thought were universal.

I love how kind and open he is to Gwen and Miles. If his story is anything like the comics I would've expected him to act more douchy or angry but he doesn't give a toss he just wants to play his music and make Miguel angry (which I respect).

His art style is collage! My favourite medium!

(Also very appropriate from what I learned in college, where we analysed album covers and artwork by punk bands and artists and how it stood out in a time of same-y looking artwork) So very appropriate for Spiderverse.

Anyway I didn't have a structure to this. I just love having English representation that actually feels like the writers talked to actual British people (not posh assholes but actual people) and did their homework.

So Daniel Kaluuya got to use his actual accent for once! Yay!

Propaganda:

For Law:

Relies both on his sword and his powers and became the youngest Warlord of the Seas. He can conjure spherical "rooms" where he has full control over anything inside- up to being able to use teleportation and soul-swapping. There was also that one time he straight-up removed hearts from multiple people's bodies without harming them, his powers are great for medical purposes (like operation) or, well, whatever non-fatal dismemberment qualifies as. Law is completely unaffected by Hancock, a female Warlord so beautiful her power can turn anyone even slightly attracted to her into stone (this works on nearly every man and multiple women). Luffy, another unaffected character, is canonically asexual and aromantic so this could mean Law is aro/ace, gay or both. Either way, he's a great possibly-queer swordsman!

When he uses his fruit powers, his sword is never wrong. And he can cut what ever he wants however he wants. Like the still-beating hearts out of sailors. Or give in needle prick of anesthesia

For Tashigi:

A lady swords man?! Who looks like Zoro's dead friend grown up?! She is very knowledgeable about swords and handles hers well. Honestly it's been a while since her skills have been displayed but she has been moving up the ranks of the Marines and her fighting is with a blade. Amazing in Lougetown and Punk Hazard.

She's a good fighter and is reasonable/cares about justice unlike way too many Marines. Tashigi has big lesbian vibes and is both badass and clumsy which is a funny contrast.

For Shanks:

He is the only Yonko without a devil fruit power which means his skill with a sword (and his haki use) must have carried him up there. He often dueled with Mihawk back "in the day" but they don't now...See Shanks lost his dominant arm protecting the future chance of liberation and had to basically re-learn the all that. Love!!! Amazing!!! Best!!! Imagine being top-tier and having to re-learn and then youre top-tier again!!

Shanks used to be one of the greatest swordsmen out there but he's strong enough that even losing one of his hands didn't stop him. He has strong divorced energy with Buggy and (depending on who you ask) Mihawk, who he used to fight regularly back when they were evenly matched- for reference, Mihawk is THE best swordsman in the world so it must have taken expert skills to come close to this level.

Neptune in the 8th gets the best sleep right after an orgasm. Quality sex just completely relaxes them! Also they're likeliest of the Neptune houses to get erotic dreams, and second likeliest to have premonitions in dreams (just behind 12th ofc).

Hobie would make his person a jacket like his for their style if they might not be punk or if it is punk he makes it like his. But it still has your beliefs in the jacket which is probably similar to hobie’s. As hobie wouldn’t date someone who doesn’t believe his beliefs, it’s obvious why he wouldn’t. So on the jacket would also probably be stuff of hobie and you on there or put in it that’s hid. Honestly he’d be into what you’ve liked that whole year or really payed mind into that year and give you it. Then he’ll give you another present when you aren’t around friends or family or anyone. I just saw your post for the band Au, and I so love your designs for them! Especially for Boris. Questions for today, what are some of the questers favorite music genres? Do they have any competition with other bands? Will some familiar faces be joining this Au? Are any of the band members interest in a relationship? And who is Bendy and Boris caretaker? Hi! I’m so glad you enjoy their designs! I’ve been working on that drawing for so freaking long lol.

Their favorite music genres would be mostly punk rock or just in general rock.

Bendy and Boris preferring some of the older rock music dating back to Elvis Presley to current. They appreciates some of the grunge from the 90s too. Bendy also listens to a lot of more modern techno and pop music. Especially ones that are strong with the more computer created sound effects, heavy beat drops, and bass. I’m not sure how to describe it but songs that aren’t only instruments but also includes computer created sound effects, that sort of thing.

Cuphead listens to a wide variety of music depending on his mood. He listens to general rock genres but he also appreciates songs about things he relates to on a personal level. It doesn’t always matter the vibe, but if the lyrics strike a chord with him he’ll add it to his listen playlist (this is also in my Cyberpunk AU lol, Cup just has the same music taste throughout my AUs) He also loves indie and alternative rock.

Mugman seems like the kind of guy to listen to musicals. He’s a romantic, so of course he’d listen to a lot of Hamilton, Justin Paul and Benj Pasek; Andrew Lloyd Webber, and Disney songs. And I guess in general any songs about love, romance, and that have a good vibe.

No competition so far that I can think of. Idk… maybe the butcher gang??!?!? I dunno!?!? There’s not a whole lot of groups that aren’t taken in IM that I can turn into a band.
