So tonight I finally started playing pkmn sword because I cleared UltraMoon recently and I’ve been SO excited to start, already sensed that Victor is at the high tiers of favorite and Hop/Victor is OTP and what can I say, I’m about 2.5 hours in after playing pretty much without pause, and my sense was RIGHT and I’m having a great time so far, I’m enjoying it immensely, I love everything about it and I couldn’t stop giggling pretty much the whole time (well, through all the events at least dgsfdgf)

My Picks for the “cannon” protagonist of each pokemon game based on Masters EX (and other evidence)

Gen 1 - Red, duh. You fight him in the Johto Games

Gen 2 - Ethan, Originally wasn’t a female trainer in gold and silver and Lyra mentions being the daycare people’s granddaughter

Gen 3 - Brendan, Not a debate, he is stated to be Norman’s son

Gen 4 - Dawn, This one’s tricky. While Lucas Has Dialga and Infernape AND Barry has Emploeon (implying Lucas was the one to take a pokemon from the brief case) he outright states to be the professors’ assistant and to be from Sandgem town. However I think the pokemon chosen can be choked up to semantics since 1- he could have just caught the Infernape later and 2- Dawn could have just given Dialga to him and Rowan to be researched. When all is said and done the pokemon they have in masters can’t really be evidence for who played what role since Masters seems to take place way after any of these games’ plots

Gen 5.1 - Hilbert, Hilda just says she didn’t know N until Hilbert told her about him, so it had to be him

Gen 5.2 - Rosa, while yes- Hilbert’s mom mistakes the player for him- Cynthia says the player looks like the one who fought Giratina- which we know was Dawn. So we have a tie for in game likenesses. In Masters, it is very obvious that Rosa was the one to go on the journey in B2W2. So I guess Hilbert’s mom just doesn’t know what her son looks like.

Gen 6 - Serena, Calem outwardly states to be from Kalos, not having moved there. He refers to the Serena as “neighbor” which is what the rival in X and Y does constantly.

Gen 7 - Elio, this one was REALLY tough because masters very cleanly divides Elio and Selene over the plot of Sun and Moon. The only thing I can really use to prove it’s Elio is that his in game description directly references the Island Trial and “gaining recognition from Professor Kukui” which I’m taking to mean he became the champ.

Gen 8 - Gloria, again the plot of SwSh is really divided between her and Victor, but she gets way more specific with it and Victor focuses way more on cooking

Legends Arceus - Rei, again the description describes him as being the one to have come from the rift in the sky, this one’s pretty cut and dry. And if the theory is true that Rei / Akari were Lucas / Dawn sent back in time, That means Lucas really did get to be a protagonist. Though in my opinion I think they just look similar, lots of these characters do if you take away their hats and recognizable clothing, I guess Hilbert’s mom can be forgiven.

Gen 9 - They’re not in Masters yet- but if I had to put money on it I’d say they’d take one of the SV subplots and give them to Florian and Juliana individually. Giving us another Sun and Moon situation.

Valerie's entire body still feels primed to panic. She's staring at the spot Gatz was at not fifteen minutes ago. A glance- again- at where Hilbert and Rosa were with Vivi revealed nothing. Not even the victory Pokemon got away. For what felt like the hundredth time, Valerie wished he'd hop on her and tell her it was a joke, that everyone went down to Route 1 or something and would be back.

The phone in the ranger's left hand was shaking, her trembling was visible. The contact screen was still open from when Valerie tried to call to see if Blue was still flying. Was there a chance? Scrolling down, there was Hilda's contact. Maybe, there was a chance. Tapping the listing brought up the call icon. Before Valerie could hit that, a giant red X appeared on the screen.

"Styl-ler! L-let me call!" Even Valerie's voice was trembling. Another X appeared, followed up with a text prompt.

I tried.

The call log came up. In the time Valerie stared at where her friends were, her rotom did what she tried to do. Call to Gatz, call to Hilda. Call to Lucas. Call to Red. Call to Rosa... Styler did go down the list. The most recent call was the one Valerie herself made to Blue. If any connected, she wouldn't have been able to place the call to Blue.

Breathe in. One... Two... Three... Four... Five. Breathe out, just as slowly. She can't panic. She had to fight the adrenaline pumping through her. Who was here? Valerie had the list of people she invited, but others came. The guy Rosa called Mochi Man was here with a friend. There was N. That one blonde lady, Valerie couldn't think of her name. There were so many.

And there was a way. It was risky. It would take up so much time. And there was the risk of losing everything again. The redhead's grip tightened on her phone. Her eyes narrowed as she began tapping the screen. She didn't care. That's what rangers would do. That's what she would do.

Call

Valerie put the phone up to her ear, listening to it ring. She had to find a way through the Ultra Wormholes. This was the first one that came to mind.

Everything was canon compliant up till the Mt. Coronet/Spear Pillar event.

I never caught Dialga (but we had a some sort of connection after our encounter) and I never became Champion (I don’t remember if I lost or wasn’t interested in challenging the League but I know for a fact I didn’t become Sinnoh’s Champion).

Instead my canon went divergent in the sense that Looker hired me as a member of the International Police and I worked as his partner. Eventually I moved to Unova to help out in this huge S-rank mission of Ghetsis and Colress, the revival of Team Plasma and the investigation of N’s disappearance and Hilbert’s murder (he wasn’t actually murdered btw turned out he was missing as well). So basically I was part of the events of BW2 just on the sidelines. Nate (who was also a member of International Police) was the one who did all the work.

After those events Looker introduced me to Nate and we worked together as a team. Nate never really liked me though but we started getting along after the events that happened in the Black Tower (another S-rank mission) and we were practically one of the best pair of the International Police. Then Looker introduced us to Rosa and Kris who were also team and were just as good (even better) than us and we became a four member squad with Looker as our leader.

Complicated canon I know but this was probably one of the best canons I had and I miss those times.

Hi, my name is AJ, but you can call me whatever you feel like! I’m 19, and I’m trying to garner enough writing experience to maybe some day open up commissions. This blog is centered around Pokémon, so if you want to see something, leave an ask!
