Girl Talk (. tmnt 2012 .)
SUMMARY: Ashley and April are having a sleepover together at April’s house, and the orange-haired girl asks her good friend for advice.
NOTES: once again, I fucking love writing friendships and platonic relationships. This mentions my friend's, @thepsyichckistune, oc, Alex. I would say this is RIGHT before April, Donnie, and Alex are an official couple. Enjoy!
WARNINGS: April gushing over Alex and Donnie because they are so cute together omg

“DO I NEED TO GET ANYTHING, APRIL?”
The brunette asked over the phone. She set her phone on the counter in her kitchen, tying her long brown hair into a high ponytail. Ash grabbed her purple platform combat boots from the shoe rack and pulled out a stool that was by the counter. Ash sat down on the stool and started putting on their boots. Her overnight bags and other necessities were placed on the kitchen counter, as well as her small backpack. Ashley had been dying to get out of her apartment for what seemed like the longest time. Finally, she had an excuse. The brunette had a chance to leave her home for the night, and she was sure as hell going to take that chance with open arms. April had called her up, asking Ash if she was free for a sleepover. With her father away on a business trip for his journalist job and Alex working at her job, Ash thought that it was the perfect opportunity for her to get out of the house.
“Umm… hold on, let me check and see what we have.” The orangette said. Ashley heard her friend hum to herself, opening the cabinets and the fridge. “Let’s see… we have ice cream and chips. We also have water, sweet tea, various kinds of juice, aaaand Pepsi.” The brunette could hear April shut the door to the fridge.
Ash finished zipping up her combat boots. “Okay. Do we need anything for dinner?” They asked as they grabbed their bags from the kitchen counter.
“We have enough food to make an actual dinner. I think the only thing that we need is popcorn.” April informed her friend.
“Yeah, we’re gonna need popcorn for our movie night,” Ash said, shutting off the light to the kitchen. They then proceeded to grab their car keys from the coat rack that was by the front door. Ash unlocked the front door, opening the door to her apartment. Ashley took her phone off of the speaker and put it to her pierced ear. “I’ll head to the store and get some popcorn for us. I might get other stuff, but I don’t know yet. Text me if you need me to pick you up anything.”
“You got it, Ash! Be careful.” April said to her friend.
Ashley closed the front door to her apartment. She locked the door behind her. “Alright, see you soon, April,” Ash said, hanging up the phone call with her friend. Shit, I have to let dad and Al know that I’m leaving the apartment. Ash thought to themselves. The brunette remembered to text Alex and their father that they were heading out. The last time Ash forgot to notify her dad that she was going somewhere, he blew up at her and got very worried. Yeah, I definitely don’t want a repeat of that shitshow. After letting her father and sister know of what she was doing, Ash put her phone in her sweatshirt pocket. She then made her way to her car, threw her stuff in the passenger’s seat, and started her journey to her destination.
After picking up the popcorn from the store, Ash finally arrived at April’s house. They got out of their car, went around to the other side, and grabbed the groceries and their overnight bags from the passenger side of their car. They closed the passenger door to their car, and they approached their friend’s front door. Ash knocked on the door, stepping back as April opened the door.
“Ash! I’m glad to see that you’ve made it here safe.” April greeted with a smile, inviting her friend inside her apartment.
“Thanks, April. Oh, also, I got more than just popcorn.” Ash stated as the finger closed the front door behind them, locking it and the deadbolt. Ash presented the groceries to their friend.
April peaked inside of the two grocery bags. “You got Oreos and ramen packets?” April inquired interestingly, lifting a brow.
“Yup! Specifically, I got peanut butter Oreos and Java chip Oreos, along with beef flavored ramen.” Ash clarified, taking the grocery bags into the kitchen. This earned Ash an amused smile on April’s face.
April followed her friend into her kitchen. She started to put away the groceries, taking them out of the bags. “You can put your stuff up in my room. I got this.” April said to her friend.
Ash nodded. “Okay, thanks, April.” With that, the brunette walked out of the kitchen and went upstairs. She put her stuff away in April’s room before walking back out and going down to the kitchen. Entering the kitchen, she saw her orange-haired friend putting the last of the groceries away. The brunette pulled out a stool and took a seat on the island. They whipped out their t-phone and began scrolling on Tumblr.
“Are you hungry right now, or do you want to wait until later?” April asked her friend, turning to face the brunette’s direction. April leaned up against the counter.
Ashley went to speak, but her stomach had spoken for her. Their stomach growled loudly, and Ash hummed in response. “I think that answers your question,” Ash said with a small chuckle.
“Have you ever eaten anything today?” April questioned, lifting a brow.
Ash hummed in thought. She looked up from her t-phone for a brief moment. “Now that I think about it, I think the only thing that I’ve eaten today was that chocolate-covered granola bar that Alex gave me,” Ash recalled in thought.
“When was that?”
“Oh, this morning at, like, eight,” Ash confessed honestly, seemingly unaffected at the fact that she hadn’t eaten right today.
April crossed her arms across her chest. The ginger teenager sighed tiredly. “You really need to eat more. Why didn’t you eat anything?” April asked genuinely.
Ash blinked. “I’ve had a busy day, that's all.” The brunette responded nonchalantly.
“Still, you should have eaten more. You really couldn’t find any time during the day to eat, like, a piece of pizza or something?” April interrogated her brunette friend, who still seemed indifferent to her eating habits.
“Girl, I have pizza practically every time I hang out with the guys at the lair. I’ve pretty much reached my quota on that.” Ash remarked to her orange-haired friend. She continued to scroll on Tumblr until she located the certain smut fanfiction that she wanted to read.
“Right, whatever, that’s not the point. You couldn’t have taken even ten minutes to get a snack?” The ginger teenager continued to press on the matter. However, Ash wasn’t budging, and April knew that. Her brunette friend was quite stubborn.
“April, you’re starting to sound like Alex,” Ash commented with a smirk, “not that it's a bad thing because it’s not. It’s just that if sis heard that I didn’t eat like I usually do today, then she would have talked to me like you are now.” Ash waited for a sassy and lighthearted response from April, but it never came. This caused the brunette to look up from her t-phone and at April.
“I’ll start making dinner. What do you want? Ramen?” She asked. April turned away before her friend could see the blush on her face.
“That’s fine, but don’t switch up the conversation on me. What’s up?” Ash questioned. The brunette woman could tell that there was more to the story. April, while not trying to give any implications away, decided not to face Ash and busy herself with beginning dinner.
“Nothing’s wrong, Ash,”
“Bullshit,”
April shot Ash a fierce look, which caused the brunette teenager to lift her brow. “Really! There’s nothing wrong!” April protested with a tinge of nervousness in her voice. She tried to act casual, and for the most part, she was succeeding, but Ash could see right through that act. April took out a pot and ran it under the kitchen faucet.
“You sure? You didn’t start acting weird until I mentioned Alex,” Ash observed nonchalantly. They set down their phone for a moment, becoming more engaged in the conversation.
April briefly turned around to get some ingredients from the refrigerator. That’s when Ash saw the orange-haired teen’s face. Her cheeks were as red as the red bell peppers she was retrieving from the fridge, and she seemed like she was pondering something. “Hey, Ash?” April spoke up.
“Yeah, April?”
“I have a question for you,” April started. There was an anxious tone to her voice as she closed the refrigerator door behind her.
“Lay it on me,” Ash responded calmly.
April shut off the kitchen faucet, taking the pot from the sink and placing it carefully on the stove. “Um… I don’t— I don’t really know what else to ask you, but…” She trailed off before continuing with her speech, “do you have any advice on how to approach Alex and Donnie?”
“In regards to…?”
“A relationship,” April stated, turning the dial on the stove.
Ash nodded in realization. “Ahhh, okay, okay, I see you,” The brunette took a moment to think before she responded. “Hmm… I mean, I can’t speak specifically on how Alex and Donnie feel because I simply just don’t know. I would say just pull them aside whenever you feel comfortable and be honest with them about how you feel about them and being in a relationship with them.” Ash spoke matter-of-factly, watching her best friend continue to make themselves dinner.
April sighed. “Yeah, I understand that. However… who would I choose? Alex or Donnie?” April grumbled in frustration. “Why do feelings have to be so damn complicated?” She asked, mainly to herself, in a quieter manner.
Ash paused for a brief moment. “I… I can’t answer that, April. You know, as to who you could choose I mean. That’s something that only you can decide.” Ash voiced to her comrade. “However, there is such a thing as polyamorous relationships.”
April briefly turned to her brunette friend with a quizzical expression on her face. She lifted a brow as she began stirring the ramen noodles so the pasta wouldn’t get cooked to the bottom of the pot. “Polyamorous relationship? I've never heard of that before.” April inquired curiously, wanting to know more.
“A polyamorous relationship is basically a relationship where there are multiple partners involved. Consensually, of course.” Ash elaborated.
April slowly nodded her head, thinking about her friend’s response. A polyamorous relationship, huh? April thought to herself, cooking the noodles for another minute. April then put the scorching hot pot on another stove eye that was adjacent to the one that was used. The more that April thought of being in a relationship with both Donnie and Alex at the same time, the giddier she got. She adored the thought of dating the purple-masked turtle and the blonde-haired psychic.
“I mean, I like both of them. The sound of this polyamorous dynamic… it doesn’t sound like a bad idea. Of course, that’s if both Donnie and Alex are into that, you know?” The orangette commented, draining the water from the noodles. Once she did that, she evenly distributed the ramen noodles into two bowls.
Ashley left her phone face up on the counter, humming in understanding and acknowledgment. The brunette teenager got up from their seat and went to the fridge, opening it to find the other ingredients that they needed. They got the soy sauce, the gochujang, the peanut sauce, and the diced chives. “You need anything?” Ash asked before she decided to close the fridge.
“No, I don’t. I have the chili flakes already, so I don’t need anything other than the soy sauce.” April responded.
Ashley then closed the doors to the refrigerator. Walking over to their seat, Ash set all of the desired ingredients down on the counter in front of them. Ash started to pour in the soy sauce and gochujang, adding in the peanut sauce and chili flakes soon after. Ash passed the soy sauce to her orange-haired friend from across the table.
“Going back to what we were saying before,” April began as she stirred her ingredients up in her ramen, “I’ve… I’ve never felt this strongly about anyone else in my life before. Sure, there have been other classmates from school that have had crushes on me, and there have been other people that I’ve had small crushes on in the past. However, with Donnie and Alex, it’s different. My feelings for them are different… and stronger.” April took a few bites of her ramen, and she took a drink of her apple juice after. She cleared her throat, continuing to talk. “My feelings for Alex and Donnie are different, but in a good way. I feel nervous, sure, but, all in all, Donnie and Alex are people that I feel comfortable around. I feel like I can unapologetically be myself without running the risk of being ridiculed. Donnie is incredibly smart and caring, and Alex is just so nurturing and supportive. They’re amazing, Ash… but I-I don’t know what to do…” April stared at her noodles, deep in thought. She realized that she had been rambling this entire time while she and her friend were eating their dinner. “Shit, I didn’t realize I rambled. Sorry, Ash,” April said shrinkingly, taking a quick bite of her ramen. She giggled nervously with a blush coating her cheeks.
Ash took the last drink of her sweet tea before responding. “No, you’re fine, April. You’re not bothering me. Like I said earlier, I would just pull them aside whenever you deem the time is right and be honest with Donnie and Alex about how you’re feeling.” Ash advised her best friend as she finished up her ramen dinner.
April smiled at her comrade, her blush dying down. “Thanks, Ash. I figured I should get some advice from you since this is your older sister I’m talking about. That, and you are a good listener and very perceptive.” April explained, hastily devouring the rest of her bowl of ramen.
“Well, I see your point, and I’m glad that you trusted me enough to tell me all of that,” Ashley communicated as they put their dishes in the dishwasher. They also put up the ingredients and put them up in the refrigerator.
April nodded. “Of course! You’ve always been good at giving advice to others.” The orangette told the brunette as she, too, put her dishes in the dishwasher. As she closed the dishwasher, April smirked at Ash, turning to her friend. This cunning look on her friend’s face made Ash raise her brow. “You know, maybe you can dish out some information about you and Raph’s relationship over the movie we’re watching?”
Ash blushed, her cheeks burning red. “Oh, hush!” Ash exclaimed.
“Come on! I admitted something to you, you have to admit something to me!” April protested, trying to convince the stubborn brunette woman to give her some sort of juicy information.
Ash crossed her arms across her chest. She sighed. “I mean… Raph and I have only been dating for a year now…” The brown-haired teenager trailed off in a low tone of voice.
“Come on!” April pleaded.
“Ugh, fine! You make a good point— you did share something with me, it’s only fair that I share something with you…” Ash acquiesced reluctantly.
April grinned. “YAY! Alright, Ash, let’s go put on that movie and talk about your love life!” The orange-haired teenager cheered, both of them walking out of the kitchen. “I’m going to get my pajamas on. You should do the same.” April said.
Ash playfully rolled her eyes. “April, I can just wear what I have on now. I’m just wearing a purple hoodie and grey sweatpants.” Ash countered.
“Fine by me. Just know that it gets really hot in my living room, which is where we’re crashing for the night.” April then walked away and went upstairs to her room so she could change into her nighttime clothes.
Guess I’ll get some movies out to choose from. Ashley thought to themself as they made their way into April’s living room. They sat down on the floor in front of the tv, covered up with a plush white blanket. As they searched through the drawer that was filled with movies, Ash saw a few that piqued her interest and she took them out, laying them next to her on the carpeted floor. Even though her friend was extremely anxious about bringing up her feelings to the purple-masked turtle and the blonde psychic, Ashley had a gut feeling that everything was going to go in April’s favor.
