Inspired by the wonderful @julietashealing-child for her writings about mama bear Alma.
Three out of Three
Julieta can’t lie
Agustín can’t stop talking
Alma needs a long vacation
When you’re a single mother of triplets, you don’t sleep and if you do, it’s not deep sleep. Alma Madrigal had always been a light sleeper, but at this point in her life, her children were young adults and the teenage years had given her even less of a reason to relax. So she was up now at 11:30 at night because there was a faint noise downstairs and it had woken her.
She took her candle and shawl and was down the stairs when she heard more shuffling and then a thump as the cabinet door slammed and she entered the kitchen a minute later to find her eldest standing in the middle of the room, looking as if she’d just run a marathon from Bogotá through the mountains.
Julieta was breathing quickly and her face was flushed and her hair was messy, with large strands falling out of her carefully placed bun. Her forehead glistened with sweat and her blouse was slightly off center. She took a deep breath upon seeing her mother and moved to shuffle things around on the counter as if it was the most important task in the world.
“Mamá?! You startled me!”
“Julieta, what in the world? Are you alright? You’re completely flushed.”
“Fine! Fine! Really I’m fine!”
“It’s almost midnight! What are you doing still awake?”
“I need to finish baking something.”
Alma looked around the kitchen, but there were no supplies, ingredients opened, and the oven wasn’t even warm. A smile pulled at the corner of her mouth, but she kept silent.
“And whatever this is can’t wait until morning?” Alma asked. Julieta worked hard, but she had a tendency to overdo it.
“Uh no…I…was looking for the sugar. I forgot there was an order I needed to take care of before tomorrow and…well…”
“You mean this sugar?” Her mother asked dryly, pointing to the large bag that sat in front of Julieta.
“Oh! Thank you, mamá…wow…I’m extra tired I guess.”
“Well, then you need to get to sleep, my dear,” Alma said, straightening herself up and motioning towards the staircase. “You mentioned at dinner that you wanted to make a few house calls in the morning and you usually start those before breakfast.”
Julieta nodded. Her fingers nervously twisted the pleats of her skirt. “Right.”
“And you wanted to go with Pepa to the fields to get new herbs for propagation…”
“Mhmm…” Julieta nodded calmly. Alma smiled at her.
“You’re a hard worker, mi amor. I think tomorrow might be a good day to take the afternoon and rest for a bit.”
“Sure, I’d like that.” Julieta answered, somewhat distracted, eyes darting to the pantry. Alma’s smile turned up further as she followed her daughters gaze. None of her children were as subtle as they thought they were.
“But let’s get you to bed now.” The older woman draped her arm around her daughter. “I’ll walk upstairs with you.”
“Thank you mamá, but I just need to finish down here. As soon as I find the flour, I’ll go to bed.”
“I thought you were looking for the sugar.”
Julieta’s eyes widened. Shit
“I need both.”
“Well, I’ll give you a hand then.” Alma set her candle down and leaned against the counter, looking at her daughter. “Where should we start?”
“Mamá, really. I can manage.”
“Julieta you’re so tired, you’re forgetting which ingredients you need, cariño. Now let me help.”
“But…” Julieta clasped her hands in front of her and clenched her fingers together.
“Oh, Agustín!” Alma called in a sing-song voice. “Have you seen the flour?”
For a moment, the tension in the room lifted just slightly before crashing down heavy on mother and daughter as Julieta’s eyes grew wider than an owl’s as she stared at her mother in disbelief with her mouth open and heart pounding in her chest.
“Mamá, what ?”
“Of the three of you…” Alma began, placing her hand in the pantry door. “You, Julieta are the worst liar.”
Alma unceremoniously pulled the pantry door open and Agustín fell out as the door gave way and he crashed into a heap at the older woman’s feet. Alma’s arms were cross and she looked at him with a bemused expression and raised an eyebrow. Julieta cringed and buried her head in her hands. Scrambling to stand up, Agustín adjusted his glasses and stuffed his tie in his pocket. The top few buttons of his shirt had been opened and he looked just as jittery as Julieta. She gave him an “I’m so sorry” look and he looked at the crucifix on the kitchen wall, praying God would take him quickly.
“Well, well…” Alma said after letting them squirm for a few minutes. “Good evening.”
“Uh, good evening, Señora Madrigal.” Agustín brushed his hair with his fingers, desperately trying to hold onto any dignity he had left. “Look, I…”
“Got lost on your way home? And ended up in our kitchen? Is that what you were going to say?”
Agustín cleared his throat and quickly shook his head. “No, no!”
“Well, you were helping Julieta look for supplies then? And the door just randomly shut behind you?”
“Señora…” he looked over to Julieta for help, but all she could do was shake her head helplessly.
“Now then, let me guess.” Alma continued. “Your tie has been removed and your shirt was going to be taken off because of the heat, is that right?”
Agustín raised his hands in a show of innocence.
“No, no! I would never…I was the one who insisted it stay on even though…Julieta was the one who wanted to…”
“Will you SHUT UP?!” Julieta shrieked. She had been hoping Casita would open a hole in the floor and bury her alive, but now she swore she could’ve killed Agustín in that moment.
Alma gave a strange look to both of them before pinching the bridge of her nose and sighing deeply.
“Alright then,” the matriarch said briskly. “Visiting hours are over. Agustín, say goodnight and I’ll walk you out.”
“Mamá, I can do it,” Julieta insisted. She could have cooked an arepa on her face.
“Julieta, you need to find your flour, remember?” Alma said sweetly. “I’ll see Señor Rojas out. Young man, say goodnight to my daughter and come with me. If you give her a kiss, please make it one that is kind to my eyes.”
Gulping, Agustín gave Julieta a fast peck on the cheek and left her in the kitchen to follow Alma out to the front hall and to the door. He braced himself as Alma stood before him and spoke. He was considerably taller than her, but she currently had an air about her that made him feel about two feet tall. For a moment, Agustín could have sworn that he even saw Pedro Madrigal’s portrait glower at him.
“Agustín, look at me.”
“Señora.” he whispered.
“Ive known you a long time and you and your family are held in high esteem by mine. I’m sure you’d like to keep it that way. Our house is much livelier and brighter during the day so until you and Julieta are wed, let’s limit our visits to then, yes? Nine o’ clock in the evening will be a reasonable time for you to leave and the same goes for Julieta leaving your home. Just in case you were considering defiling your mother and father’s pantry as well. I’m glad you are courting Julieta, but these are my rules and I don’t negotiate.”
Agustín nodded at her as relief flooded him and the realization that Alma wouldn’t strangle him began to take hold.
“Marriage is my plan, I promise.”
“I assumed marriage was your intention,” Alma said, nodding.
“Yes! Lo siento…that is. I love Juli with all my heart and yes I want to marry her someday.”
“When the time is right.” Alma said with a smile.
“With your blessing, señora.”
“Good. Alright then,” Alma said, opening the door. “Give my regards to your parents.”
“I will.” Agustín began to walk down the stairs but in a sudden burst of courage and relief decided to ruin the moment. “Señora Madrigal, I promise I wasn’t going to take my shirt off…or anything else! Or DO anything else. I didn’t and won’t …I mean I absolutely wanted to, but I won’t! Not in your pantry anyway and definitely not before we get married. Julieta’s clothes stay on too! No matter what she keeps telling me!!”
Dios
Alma gaped at him and her mouth hung open. As the words he just spoke floated in the air, Agustín seemed to register just what he had said and wished badly that he had a window next to him so he could put his head through it.
“Casita?” Alma’s voice was deadly calm.
With a swish, Casita’s stairs became rubber and tossed Agustín into the air and onto a patch of moss a few feet from the house.
“Goodnight!” Alma called out. Pulling her shawl around her shoulders, she re entered the house and seriously thought about a hard drink before she went back to sleep if only it weren’t for the headache that was starting to form. That’s three out of three for the week, she thought. Pepa and Bruno had both given her migraines at the beginning of the week with their antics and now Julieta rounded out the trio. Walking back to the kitchen, she glanced with a huff at her late husband’s portrait.
“You’re enjoying this aren’t you?”
His brown eyes seemed to wink back.

Ways to say I love you...
So I stumbled across this post a few days ago and it made me want to write a drabble for Alma and her little family. I hope you enjoy.
Alma walked down the stairs, hands clasped together as she thought about all that needed done today. Two homes on the south side needed shingles replaced. The gardens at the north end needed more water, that would mean Pepa would need to be there before the noon bell rang. Then there were the weavers who needed more fleece for clothes, that meant she needed to see if the sheep were ready for shearing yet and then the wool would need transport. All of that was besides what she would need to do for home. Sure Casita could take care of some things, the dishes were something it enjoyed, but the floors still needed to be swept and the laundry needed washed and hung out to dry. Her day looked busier the longer she thought of it and truly it was starting to give her a headache already.
Now usually when she entered the kitchen, it was already in motion, Casita took care of the bulk of that with starting the ovens and moving some of the larger things about. This morning however things were still and quiet, the twelve year old triplets sitting at the counter in wait, looking bored and impatient.
“Mama!” The eldest of the triplets bounded over, grasping Alma’s hands in hers with a grin and followed very closely by the other two. Their eyes were eager and bright as they smiled at their mother.
“Buenas dias mis bebes. What is going on here?” The woman couldn’t help but smile in return, seeing them happy always made her so.
“Mama, we were wondering… would you make huevos pericos for us?”
“Pretty please mama?” That was her second daughter, chiming in with her hands folded in front of her, a pout on her lips. Alma blinked at the three, a brow arching as she considered the request, her hands poised on her hips.
“But you know how to make that, Juli.” She couldn’t help but chuckle a little bit, shaking her head slightly at them. These were her children, these silly things.
“But.. you make them really good.. Juli does too but yours are the best..” She looked at her son, his head turned down slightly and the pout very apparent. He was rubbing at his arm again but he still managed to look up at her for a moment before back down at his own feet.
And that’s what pushed her over.
With a soft sigh and a small smile the woman set to work. She pulled the skillet out and got the eggs and tomatoes.
“If I am to make this, you have to make the arepas.” She turned to see three bright and eager faces shining at her and laughed. “Go go, get the masa, apúrate por favor.”
The kitchen bustled with life as the four found themselves helping each other with the exception of Alma’s huevos pericos, the children wouldn’t even look at the pan she was cooking in. How she still got roped into helping mix and mold the arepas was beyond her, surely three preteens could’ve handled that much. But she wouldn’t complain, not in the least, it had been ages since she had been the one to cook in this kitchen. Since handing the domain over to Julieta at the tender age of ten she had hardly needed to. She had missed this…
“The arepas are ready, mama!” Pepa had the plate full, ready to take them to the table with a bright rainbow over her head. It made the woman so happy to see that. She pulled the pan from the stove and placed it on a towel on the counter, leaving the spoon in for serving.
“How about we eat here today. I’m sure Casita wouldn’t mind us not using the dining table.” And neither would she, for once. She missed the nostalgia of cooking a meal, of eating in the kitchen with her babies, of them being so much smaller… It would be okay for today. At least for breakfast time. It’s okay for her to just be a mom. And when breakfast is over, she can be everything else she has to be, but in this moment it feels good just to be their mom.
The plates were filled and the three kids sat on the stools, happily spooning eggs into their mouths. When she finally got to her own plate, she made the discovery that all the arepas she herself had made were gone. Selecting one she knew her son had formed she smiled, watching the three dig into their plates happily.
“Gracias, Mama. This is so good!”
“Yeah it is! These are the best huevos ever!” Julieta at least had managed to swallow her food before she spoke, Pepa seemed to be having too much of a good time for that thought.
“Si! Gracias, mami.” Alma cupped the boy's cheek with a smile, he was easiest to reach being right next to her, and gave a nod. “Of course, mis bebes.”
It was just eggs, tomatoes and scallions. The arepas were made the same way as they always were. And yet, Alma had to agree with them.
Those were the best eggs she’s had in a long time…

Spoilers for the end of The Desolations of Devil's Acre ahead!!
I just think its so sweet of Miss Peregrine to remake the loop a day earlier so the kids can have peace without bombs falling from the sky every single night
And also, the trees in the form of Miss Avocet welcoming the kids with open arms is extremely kind
She didn't have to do it, she could very well kept the loop being on September 3rd, 1943
But she moved it so they could finaly be at peace after all the war and stuff against the Wights and the stress of being on the run and I just can't get over how much she loves the kids

Mamá Mirabel AU
My own (rewritten) version of the mamá Mirabel AU, in which Mira takes care and basically raises Alejandra, Juancho, Cecilia and Antonio
Enjoy!
Ever since her failed ceremony, Mirabel tried very hard to prove to her family that she’s worth something.
But when she was 10, Pepa and Félix decided to take advantage of this, and dumped their newborn son Antonio onto the 10 year old girl to care for, the couple not wanting to be parents again. Besides, it gave that useless brat something to do other than be lazy.
Despite only being 10, Mirabel took good care of her primo, and loved him to bits.
Unfortunately, some of the townspeople got the same idea Pepa and Félix had, and decided to dump their kids onto the 10 year old as well.
In total, Mirabel had to care for 4 babies; Antonio, Juancho, Alejandra and Cecilia.
It obviously was hard caring for 4 young kids when being 10, especially when no one bothered to help you, but Mirabel somehow managed.
It went on for years. Every day, Mirabel had to go to town and take care of the 4 children while their actual parents were doing their chores, gossiping or mostly relaxing…
And obviously, the 4 kids started to see Mirabel as their mamá…
“Mami!” Antonio said, reaching towards Mirabel as little Juancho and Cecilia called her that as well. “Mami!”
Mirabel tried to correct them, saying that she wasn’t their mami, but it was already too late.
And when Alma, Pepa and the other parents found out, all hell broke loose…

Mama Isa. I gotta know, what did Alma do (or try to do) at Dolores' and Luisa's weddings? Was she gonna try and stop them? Or did she just wanna be there?
So honestly. She had shown up to Dolores, because by some miracle, she had found out (because now that the encanto is essentially open and unprotected, people go in and out, mostly for business.) After seeing Mariano, she actually thought it was Isabela getting married. Finally, in her words. But when she saw Isabela not getting ready (later learning that Dolores was actually the one walking down the aisle)/ she wasn't happy.
See, Alma still had the mindset that she still had some sway over the family. She tried to, basically crash/stop the wedding. Going as far as to upset Pepa on purpose by reminding her of how "terrible" her own wedding day went. She basically didn't like how the pairing was and tried to sabotage it. Isabela obviously didn't let it slide, and Alma wasn't there much longer.
For Luisa, by this point it had been some years, and she was tired, and had given up. But she still wanted to come, to come see who Luisa was marrying. She never really paid much attention to Luisa's personal life before they left, you'd be surprised how little she knows about her. She tried to just go in there. Damn near objected, but Mariano and Félix took her out so fast it's not even funny 😭
Felíx, Agustín and Mariano after seeing Alma try to pull up to the wedding:

Day Nine: Time
Just me wondering what Alma was doing the day before the kids opened their doors…
Tumblr media
Alma put the finishing touches on her children’s birthday clothes and looked up at the clock. She sighed. Just never enough time to do all the things she wanted to. It was already past midnight. Her eyes strayed to the portrait of Pedro that hung on the landing. She held up the outfits so that Pedro could see and said, “Our babies will be five tomorrow, Pedro and will be moving from the nursery to new rooms. Casita says there will be something special inside for each of them. I know I should be happy... ” Alma stopped as that familiar wave of unhappiness swept over her. If she finished that sentence she would start crying, and she did not want that today. “Everything will be fine,” she said to herself, “Tomorrow will be perfect.”

Mirabel AU / Mirabel Angst / Mama Mirabel / Part Ten
Tumblr media
“Ah! Sorry- sorry I didn’t mean to- uh-” He stops not knowing what to say. Mirabel was so surprised that she stopped shaking and her breathing slowed.
“Tio Bruno…? What are you doing here?”
“Well- um, I kind of live here? Unless you mean like- like in this area which is because I heard someone in the passageways, and then I saw my vision and you know uh, yeah.”
“Oh.. um, what do you mean live here? How?”
“It’s a bit hard to explain, it might be easier for me to just show you.” He says offering his hand, Mirabel takes it, pulling herself up. He takes her through the passageways to his “room.” Mirabel walks by and sees cracks that are covered in cement.
“Are you patching up the cracks?”
“Oh! No no no no no, I don’t go near those. All the patching is done by Hernando.”
“Who is Hernan-” Bruno puts up his cape and says,
“I’m Hernando and I’m afraid of nothing!” he pauses, “It’s actually me, I say my real gift was ‘acting,’ haha.” Mirabel looks at him and she can’t decide whether to find it funny, charming or concerning.
“I’m Jorge, I make the spackle,” Bruno says. Mirabel decides she should probably be concerned. They make it into Bruno's room. It’s filled with rats messing with his stuff, and his room is small and covered in small things he’d collected over the years.
“You never left?”
“Well, I left my tower- a lot of stairs you know. It’s kitchen adjacent, and-” He goes over to the television, “free entertainment! Telenovelas!” He says as he flips through different cutouts for the rats. He sits down on his red chair.
“Their love could never be.”
“I don’t understand, why did you leave, but not actually leave?”
“Well, free food, and uh ya know.” He just shrugs. Mirabel looks through a hole in the wall to see the dining table, and then looks at a small table that’s labeled with his name, showing that he uses it to pretend like he’s still a part of the family. Bruno stands up and walks behind her.
“Yeah, my gift wasn’t really helping the family, but, I love my family, ya know?” Bruno says. Mirabel nods and looks at the vision in her arms.
“Nobody was ever meant to see that vision.”
“Why- why did you take the vision?”
“Well, after you didn’t get your gift Abuela was worried about the magic and asked me to take a vision. When I saw the vision I knew how it was going to look, because I’m Bruno and everyone always assumes the worst, so.. So I left.”
“You left… for me?”
“I mean not just that, but yeah I guess. You are my niece after all.” Mirabel smiled sadly, just happy that he cared that much.
“Thank you, Tio.”
“Ah- no don’t- I uh, you don’t need to,” he stumbled.
“I feel like I should though. I messed up Isabella’s proposal and now I’m hiding in here instead of facing Abuela. I know I don’t have a gift but I love my family and I just want to help.”
“You are helping.”
“You don’t know that.”
“I do know sobrina. I still know a little about what goes on in the Casita. You’re doing fine. Whatever is happening with Isabella, it’ll be ok.”
“Gracias Tio,” Mirabel says as she hugs him. He awkwardly hugs back,
“Anytime, kid.”
“I think I know what I need to do. I need to apologize to Isabella.” She says as she goes to leave but Bruno stops her.
“Wait, before you go, if you save the miracle, could you visit sometime?”
“When I save the miracle, I’m bringing you home,” Mirabel says confidently. Bruno smiles and then knocks on a bunch of wood as Mirabel leaves.
Mirabel walks up to Isabella’s door, and a lot of emotions run through her, debating if this was the right decision. She goes into the room anyway to see an angry Isabella.
“What are you doing here?!” She says irritated.
“I came to apologize.”
“I’m listening.”
“I’m sorry for ruining your proposal, I’m going to talk to Mariano and try to fix this.”
“Don’t bother.”
“Why?”
“It’s not like he’ll change his mind.”
“You don’t know that- Do you… want to marry Mariano?” Isabella looks surprised at the question and thinks.
“I- I mean yeah. It’s good for the Ecanto, and Abuela-”
“I’m not asking about that, I’m asking if you want to marry Mariano.”
“I don’t know. I mean, I thought I was fine with it, but now- now that I have a chance out… I don’t know.”
“Why would you marry someone you don’t love?” Mirabel asks.
“Well, I don’t really want to get married, but Abuela just seemed so happy when Mariano and I started getting along. When she suggested getting engaged, I-”
“-Wanted to make her proud?”
“Yeah. I don’t know why I’m even telling you this. You know Abuela is livid right now? Mami and Papi were arguing with her and everyone’s looking for you.”
“Oh… well, I’m sorry. For all of this. I hope that you can get the ending that you want. I think I need to talk to Abuela,” Mirabel says. Isabella nods,
“It’s fine I guess. You kind of gave me a chance out, so thank you.” Isabella says. Mirabel walks out of the room and goes to talk to her Abuela, though she runs into her mami first.
“Mirabel! There you are!” she says as she pulls her youngest daughter into a hug.
“Hola mami.”
“I don’t know what’s going on. Your Abuela is being unreasonable and there are cracks littered around the house. I don’t understand.”
“I think it’s the miracle mami. I’m not sure what I’m going to do yet, but I need to talk to Abuela,” Mirabel asserts. Julietta just nods and lets her youngest go. Mirabel goes to the living room to see Abuela talking with Senora Guzman. She goes up to both of them, and Senora Guzman sees her first.
“Mirabel,” she says. Abuela turns around to see her youngest granddaughter, anger written all over her face.
“You need to fix this,” Abuela says.
“Lo siento Abuela. I won’t. Isabella-”
“What?! Don’t disrespect me.”
“I didn’t mean-”
“No, you listen to me. I don’t know why you weren’t given a gift but it is not an excuse to hurt this family.” Abuela says with venom. To Mirabel, it feels like a stab in her heart. Senora Guzman looks shocked. Her Papi comes to see what’s going on while Dolores and Camilo were sitting on the couch nearby. Tia Pepa and Felix were near the kitchen.
“I will never be good enough for you… will I? No matter how I try- No matter how hard everyone tries! Luisa will never be strong enough! Isabella will never be perfect enough! Tio Bruno left because you always saw the worst in him!”
“Bruno did not care about this family!” Cracks begin to form on the walls and ceiling.
“He loves this family, I love this family, we all love this family! You’re the one that doesn’t care.”
“Dont you ever-!”
“The Miracle is dying because of you!” As Mirabel finishes her sentence the house begins to fall apart. Mirabel runs straight for the candle, while Casita tries to help her while also pushing everyone out of the house. Everyone is yelling at her to stop, telling her it’s not worth it. She continues though. As she goes up she sees her Tio Bruno escape the house with a bucket on his head, and she smiles slightly to herself. She makes it to the candle but the house is too far gone. Casita’s last efforts are covering Mirabel with furniture to protect her. The Casita was gone, all that was left was the rubble of what it once was. Mirabel holds the unlit candle as her Mami runs over to her.
“Mirabel! What were you thinking?! Are you hurt?” Julieta says while checking her, Mirabel is despondent, still looking at the candle. Julietta looks at her daughter, who had dropped the candle on the ground, and then back out hearing her hermana call her.
“I’ll be right back- don’t move,” Julietta says as she runs towards her hermana.
When most of the fog clears and most of the familia is together, they realize that Mirabel is gone. They call out to her but there’s no response. Everyone goes looking for her, including Abuela. After hours of searching it just so happens that Abuela ended up finding her, she found her holding her knees to her chest while crying next to a lake she knew too well. She walks up to Mirabel and sits beside her.
“I’m sorry, I- I just wanted to help. Instead, all I ended up doing was hurting us.” Mirabel says as she cries into her knees.
“No, it’s not you. Mirabel, this is on me. You are a child, I’m an adult. Ever since we got our miracle I’ve tried so hard to give back to the world. Why out of all people did I deserve a miracle? Instead, I’ve been so focused on the miracle that, now that it’s gone, I can see clearly. Mi familia, they are the most important thing. Not the candle, mi familia. So truly, I’m so sorry Mirabel. I don’t deserve forgiveness yet, but I’ll do my best.” Abuela says as her hand glides against the current. Mirabel looks over to Abuela and pulls her into a hug.
“I could never stay mad at you, of course, I forgive you. You’re mi Abuela, you’re one of the bravest women I’ve ever met.”
“Gracias Mirabel, you’re too kind.” They break from the hug as Bruno jumps through the bushes with a horse, and jumps off.
“Don’t blame her! I gave her a vision-” he says before his mami pulls him into a hug.
“Oh mi Brunito, I missed you. I’m so sorry I pushed you away.” She says as she squeezes him tightly. He wheezes,
“I think I missed something.” He smiles sheepishly as all three of them jump on the horse.
“Mirabel! Mija I was so worried!” Julietta exclaimed as she pulled Mirabel into a tight hug.
“Lo siento Mami,” Mirabel says while muffled by her mother’s arms. The familia gathers, happy that Mirabel was found and the entire familia was together. After Mirabel was released from Julietta’s death grip, Antonio jumped on her, Mirabel caught him and hugged him as well. From behind the horse came both Abuela and Bruno. Julietta and Pepa both look to see their brother, Pepa goes up to him first and slaps him in the face, and then pulls him into a hug.
“Don’t you ever do that again pendejo,” she says. Bruno awkwardly hugs her back.
“Lo siento hermana..” he says, not sure if she’s happy he’s back or angry he left. Pepa let him go and then Julietta hugged him as well.
“Welcome back hermano,” Julietta says. When the familia was reunited they realized they needed to figure out a plan as to where they were staying, and how they were going to rebuild their home. Despite earlier events, the townspeople all came to help including the Guzmans. Multiple people had guestrooms for the family to stay, Senora Gabriela had two guestrooms that Mirabel and Bruno took, the Garcias had a guest room that Julietta and Agustin stayed in, the Lopeses had one spare bedroom with two beds that both Isabella and Luisa too, the Guzmans had two extra guest rooms, which Pepa and Felix shared one, while Antonio took the other, Lastly the Gomezes had two extra bedrooms that Dolores and Camilo stayed in. The family was really grateful to all the townspeople, but they insisted because the Madrigals had helped them so much over the years. Plans were made for the next day of clearing the rubble from the area, while also planning out the blueprints for the Casita. That night though, the Madrigals got some much-needed sleep, at least most of them. Mirabel couldn’t sleep no matter how hard she tried, despite the apology from her Abuela, which she was elated about, her negative thoughts still flooded her brain. It was almost as if they got worse. Did she deserve to be apologized to? Does she deserve forgiveness? The more she lay in a bed that was not her own, the louder the thoughts became.

Pepa and Felix just had Antonio and there very tired, pepa more so.
It’s now a game of hot potatoes with the new baby!
Julieta and Agustin are the first people to help take care of Antonio. Julieta like it because it gives her a reason to leave the kitchen, it’s been 10 years since she held a baby and it’s so nice. She gets to sleep and play with the baby and when her anxiety get the better of her about not healing the town, not cooking, baby Antonio just babble to her
Dolores and Isabela are the second
So on down the family chain
Everyone in the house has so many damn issues that they think “man this baby can fix my/our problems”
Isabela take care of Antonio because he’s a baby and he the first person in a while that smiles without any hidden motive and he see her as a person, not as perfect or as the next heir to the family
Dolores takes care of Antonio (and Mirabel) because we’ll, everyone is busy and Dolores at first took care of Mirabel since the rest was busy then when Antonio was born she and Mirabel took care of him “together” (it’s just Dolores but she let Mirabel help)
Luisa raises Antonio and it nice because that means she didn’t have to work, didn’t have to lift any donkeys or stress or have to carry so many rock that she sometimes things she die because they can crush her on day. Being with Antonio is calm and quiet, she can act silly and childish
Camil takes care of Antonio because it’s his job, his only 10 yet he learning how to be the town’s babysitter and what better way to practice is to take care of his brother? When Camilo has to watch the other children, Antonio is there next to him, fallowing him like a little duck.
Mirabel is just like the mama Mirabel au
Alma also help raise Antonio, it’s been a long time since she held a baby and a part of her wonder why pepa is too tired to watch her son? (She don’t think about how much she pushing her children to be better, to be strong. She doesn’t think how much it hurts to hold onto something that is so fragile and is independent on her, when was the last time she hug her family? Held them close as she comforts them?)
Felix and pepa obviously take care of their son, it just what it’s a 50/50, (ok it’s just Felix more of the time but it’s alright). The yellow parents love their son and it make them happy how much he’s grown
Bruno is the last to help raise Antonio, mostly at night. He come out of the walls and into the nursery and just watches the baby. Telling him stories and all about the cracks. He hold Antonio and the two walk around the house or something if the weather is good, outside
When Antonio is a toddler and started talking it’s a man house we’re everyone is trying to get Antonio to say his first words to them. It only after Antonio says his first words that the family realized that hey! We are all basically raising Antonio individuality! Hmmmm weird
Antonio calls every mom and dad. Or for the kids sisters and (brother for Camilo).
Bruno comes out of the walls because Antonio keeps asking for the “green ghost” and when ask he just tells the family about a man in green who visits him at night. The family is obviously, freaking the hell out about that. It’s only when Dolores finally spills the bean that Bruno comes out, and before anyone can do anything Antonio launches himself at Bruno and hug him and calls him “ghost dad!”
Family then comes together and have a big family talk and the cracks get fix and it’s all good and happy. And when Antonio gets his gift the family all yell and scream and excited, since the family is not king being perfect or working themselves to death they just act normal or as normal a magical family can be.

Mamá Isabela AU 2.0
An AU where Isabela basically raises Mirabel.
Enjoy!
Isabela always wanted to be a big sister, and although she was too young to remember Luisa being born, Isa got her wish when Mirabel joined the family.
Isabela couldn’t be happier, and she and Mira quickly grew to be best friends.
But after Isa’s ceremony, Alma and Pepa tried to separate the two sisters, wanting Isa to be perfect and the new matriarch of the family. But the oldest sister refused, and stuck with her hermanas
But things only got worse after Mira’s failed ceremony. The girl didn’t get a gift, and the family started to treat her badly. Alma and Pepa were really mean to her, and Julieta and Agustín were too busy to even notice their three daughters.
11 year old Isabela was the only one who comforted her youngest sister in the nursery that night, and she decided that she’d look after Mira. None of the adults bothered to do that anyways.
And that’s exactly what Isa did. Dolores quickly became the new golden child, but the sisters didn’t care.
Even after all that, Julieta and Agustín were too busy taking care of the town to even notice their three daughters, and Pepa and Félix just straight up only care about the gifts and the family remaining perfect…
But Isa just ignored them, and just focused on taking care of her youngest sister, and Luisa too, of course.
