"Here's your badge, your gun, and your assignment." You chief hands this to you in a basket. It may not seem like it but you're giddy from the fact that you finally have an actual badge.
When you trained at the academy for this, nobody said you'd be stuck on desk duty whispering in some agent's ear on how they can escape or disarm a bomb. You should've been out there from day one but "there were too many agents".
"This is it?" You open the folder that held your case. It was one page long. "Surely there's gotta be something more."
"if there was, I would have already given it to you but there isn't. We're dealing with something unknown here, something only you could figure out." Chief Wright sighs. "All my agents compromised, their names and faces on every social media. Some dead, some missing. You're literally the only one we've got. Otherwise, I'd have to send out those half-baked muffins on the street." She watches the new hired agents, one accidentally stapling his finger and the other getting frustrated over the copy machine.
"You can count on me. I'll send you reports every now and then." She stares heavily at you.
"No, this time, you will not. We have no idea which system they've hacked and we can't risk going digital. When you have time, drop by to see me personally." A knock comes at her door and a man pushes to come in.
Your breath hitches, this has to be a dream. He can't actually be here, right? He said he was going home to his parents. You never heard from him since then, he's dressed like an agent. You turn away and compose yourself.
"Ah, Mr. Jung." Chief gets up and shakes his hand. "I believe you have additional intel on the hacker. Please do discuss it with your partner." She steps back and you know that's your cue to face him. "This is Agent YN LN, our only hope." She gives both of you a tight smile.
Hoseok's heart rate increases, he hasn't seen you or heard from you in years and yet here you are, partners until further notice.
"Hope we get along well, Ms. LN." He holds out a hand and you shake it firmly.
"I hope so, Mr. Jung." You tried your best to control your voice, to stop it from trembling.
The chief dismisses you both and Hoseok follows you to your new office. One you two would share, the air was thick with awkwardness, one waiting on the other and vice versa. You quietly laid out your so called evidence, it was a series of codes that was used to weaken the firewall you had at the agency hence making it penetrable for any hacker.
"How are you?" Hoseok speaks up for the first time since you both entered.
"I'm not being hunted, if that's what you're asking." You put your feelings aside, now is not the time. "And you?"
"So-so. I'm happy to see you again." You snort.
"it didn't seem like it. I bet you're thinking what a seasoned agent like you is doing with a new field agent like me, right?" You've finished spreading the sheets of paper on the blank wall. "This must suck for you." Why are you suddenly mad and rude? You ask yourself, why are you being so bitchy all of a sudden? Its not like he broke your heart. "Sorry, been on the edge lately." You look away and busy yourself with your computer.
"It's alright. I get you. Your friends and colleagues' lives depend on you." He takes a seat as you start pinning up all the codes that were extracted from the server during the hacking.
"So, what do you have?" You speak without facing him, he clears his throat and takes a deep breath.
"My informant tells me that this was done from within the bureau, manually uploaded into your server through a hard drive that broke down your firewalls. And that usually, hackers leave a signature, something that would identify them if the people who chased them were smart enough." He glanced at the folder you were just handed. "I'm guessing you have no solid leads?"
"I guess not, everyone is lost. We can't even find our top agents. The moment we sent the alarm, all of them went poof!" You drop a piece of paper on the floor and Hoseok couldn't help but look at your ass as you bent to pick it up.
Hoseok and You had history, back at the academy during your first year, he was number 1 and you were number 10. Not the sharpest tool in the shed you are but you never give up which helped build your confidence.
Hoseok magically disappeared in year three. He called you and said he had to go home to his family and that you won't see him for a long time so its best to move on.
And it has been a long time, 6 years since and nothing. It's not like you were hoping he'd come back for you, but he's ruined you for anyone. For a Friends-with-benefits situationship, he sure knew how to swoon you win you with home cooked dinner, walks in the park, late night drives and study dates.
Unfortunately, it seems that you were the only one who caught feelings since it was so easy for him to leave you behind.
With Hoseok out of the way you were able to graduate as 3rd of the class. Yet, you were stuck on desk duty.
You've finished the layout of 25 pages of codes on the blank wall and you both stare at it.
"It makes no sense." You squint and try to look for something.
"If it makes no sense then what's the point of putting it on the wall?" Ah. There's the sass that you missed.
"Because, Jung Hoseok, there has to be something that would stand out. Like you said, a signature." He nods and looks at it again.
"Or, we can start looking for that hard drive." You purse your lips, eyes still on the wall. "Let's go check your servers for any clues anyone might have missed."
You admit, you're not the only one working on this case, you're sure there are 50 more agents on it yet you're on the front line to cover up everything.
A knock on the door and one of the new interns peeks through the door. His smile always makes you feel giddy whenever he looked at you.
"Hey YN, coffee?" He offers.
"Oh, I'll have an Affogato please." Hoseok beams, he sees the way the man looks at you and he noticed the faint blush on your cheeks.
"I'll have the usual, Jin, thank you. I'd join you but I'm in the middle of something." You give him a small smile and he just nods as he left the room.
"Your new beau?" Hoseok raises an eyebrow.
"None of your business, Hoseok." You plainly reply and he clicks his tongue on the roof of his mouth and proceeds to open the files on your table hoping to find something.
After about 15 minutes, Jin comes back with your drinks and hands Hoseok his affogato. He opens your straw, wraps your drink in a tissue and even gives you a coaster. The way Jin stares at you as you read makes Hoseok feel uneasy.
"If you'll excuse us, we need to get back to work." Hoseok speaks making Jin leave the room apologizing.
"The man bought you a coffee out of his own coffee and you throw him out." You chuckle as you scan over the files. "You're right, this is useless. Let's head to the server room."
You both take your drinks and head for the elevators. You're temporarily housed above a Pizza Hut since the agents are compromised, so was the building. Hence, nobody stays there but that was only across the road.
But before you crossed the road you head towards the underground parking lot where a sleek black high top van was parked amongst the cars.
"There's some male clothes on this rack. We can't afford to look like agents when we enter the building." Hoseok agrees and sets his coffee into the cup holders of the front seat next to yours.
The windows were tinted and there were racks and piles of clothing in the back while the two pilot seats are vacant, though you both need to duck when inside.
"Why do you have male clothes?" Hoseok questions as he picks out a hoodie and some baggy jeans as his fit.
"For when I'm undercover, Jung Hoseok, I was always the guy or girl sitting on the park bench on lookout for potential threats." He just nods again.
He was about to ask you where he can get dressed but you start stripping in front of him, Hoseok's jaw drops as he notices the once small tattoo on your shoulder has now blown into a full sleeve and an underboob tattoo. He looks away as you raise your eyebrows at him.
"You can look, its not like you haven't seen it before." You grumble as you pull on the ripped jeans you've picked.
"I see you finally got the sleeve." Hoseok starts to unbutton his shirt, he kept trying to glance at you.
Great, now you're bent over as you drag the jeans up your ass and now he has a full view of your plump behind. He feels his dick come to life but had to distract himseld before it could lead to a hard-on.
"Are you done?" You ask, finally pulling an oversized shirt and a bucket hat on before tying on your sneakers.
"We have a problem, I don't have proper shoes." He points out as he finally zips up his pants.
"Oh, I should have something in here." You bend over Hoseok, your chest to his face as you reach beneath the racks for the pair of shoes you once bought but got the men's size instead of the woman's.
They were AF1s.
"Damn, these are nice." Hoseok tries them on and it fit him perfectly. "Let me buy them off you."
"Just take it." You shrug and open the door to hop outside. "You coming?"
He finally sees you dressed as you are, oversized shirt, ripped jeans, the buckethat that he recognizes.
"Is that mine?" Hoseok points to the hat and you take it off to inspect it and put it back on.
"Yep." Was all you said as you walked back to the van, lifting your shirt to adjust the holster on your waist.
Hoseok couldn't stop staring at your exposed skin. He really does regret leaving you behind, he should've asked you to come with him, take on the adventure together but he was in no position to put that kind of weight on your shoulders not when he hasn't told you his feelings back then.
But now, you're both mature and in the peak of your careers, it excited him when he found out that he was going to have you as a partner, it was chance to re-do everything.
You both act naturally like teens as you both enter the adjacent building. Walking straight through security posing as students visiting the art studio above the office.
As you get off the elevator, Hoseok stops you and you're both silent. There was a sound of rummaging down the hall, you place your hand on your hip where your gun was resting.
Suddenly a janitor comes out of the server room, you start to relax but Hoseok didn't.
"What are you doing?" He asks the man who draws a gun but both of you were quick enough to draw yours. "Its two against one. Drop the gun and nobody gets hurt."
The man says something in a different language and starts to shoot, you both duck behind the corner. There was another exit on the other side of the building to where the man had started sprinting.
You chase after him, ignoring the calls from Hoseok to stop. You know this office all too well so when you run into an office and use your momentum to barge into an actual dry wall, you just catch the man by a meter and shot his ankle making him fall and drop his gun.
"Whoo! That's what I'm talking about!" You punch the air despite being covered in debris and powder and bleeding 200lb man a few feet away from you, Hoseok takes his gun and watches you celebrate.
This is you, not the cold person he was speaking to this morning. You were a fireball, loud and corny, you laughed at his dumb jokes and treat your trainings like a game.
If there was one thing you beat Hoseok in, that's strategy. Hoseok would've chased him down the building and cut him off in an alley but you knew the weak parts of this office and despite your average build, you can smash through walls.
Now, you find whatever wire or rope that was sitting around and tie the man... In weird knots.
"Take your time with your arts and crafts." Hoseok is amused as he watched you tie the rope all over the man's body.
"It's called Shibari. Look it up." You explain non-chalant. Since Hoseok had time to burn, he pulls out his phone and looks up 'shibari' and he was horrified.
"That's fucked up YN. Why would you do that?" Hoseok groans and puts his phone away but he hears you giggle, making him smile.
Once you're done you do a small "Ta-da!" Before revealing the man tied from neck to toe.
"You do the interrogation, you're much more intimidating than I am to him now." You pat Hoseok's shoulder.
"Who do you work for?" Hoseok places the gun on the man's temple. The man responds in Russian. Hoseok understands him, he plans on getting all the information before he relays it to you. "Tell me where I can find him." But the man refuses to speak now.
"Answer him or I'll shoot your dick off." You spoke in fluent Russian and Hoseok slowly turns to you and frowns.
"What? It's fun language to learn." You roll your eyes and he turns back to the man.
After not much interrogation, since the man's body was starting to convulse from difficult position you tied him into, he spills everything.
He's working under a company called The Empire, he knows the leader isn't Russian but his superior would know who he is. He gave us an address.
"Well, thanks. Hang here while we check out the place and we'll come back for you, yeah?" You and Hoseok toss the guy into one of the closets and go back to the server room.
You called on one of the new agents to clean up after the Russian.
As you both inspect the 'trash' the man was about to take out, Hoseok says the servers are burned and there's hardly any evidence left. You take the entire trash bag to inspect later.
Hoseok notices a piece of debris stuck in your hair behind your ear, without much thought he takes it out and fixes that part of your hair. You freeze at his act, your heart starts racing.
You bit your lip to control your breathing until Hoseok pulls away and takes the trash bag from you and throws it over his shoulder.
You both walk in silence, his small act making it a bit awkward until you reached the car parked again, but instead of going into the van, you pull out another set of keys from your holster and unlock the white sedan a few cars parked away.
Hoseok didn't even question it, of course you'd have access to multiple cars for your safety. He places the trash bag in the trunk of the car and follows you to the front of the car.
You get into the driver's seat and he's sitting shotgun. He notices a necklace hanging from the rear view mirror, his heart swells but he pretends he doesn't notice it.
"I got you something." Hoseok announcing himself as he enters your apartment, you were preparing dinner on the kitchen counter. "Hey." He kisses you on the cheek.
"Hey. How'd it go?" You ask, taking a small spoon to give Hoseok a taste of the creamy seafood soup you're making.
"Oh, that's good. But the interview went great! They said I might even skip the 4th year." Hoseok beams, his hand in his pocket fiddling with the box in his hand.
"I never doubted you for a second." Hoseok takes out the box as you were occupied with stirring the soup.
He pulls the silver necklace he's been wanting to give you for a while now, while your back was turned to him droops the pretty pendant that had a sunflower with one petal missing. You gasped as he proceeds to clasp it around your neck.
"Oh Hobi, its so pretty." You touch it with your fingertips. "You know, for a self-proclamied fuckboy you sure are a romantic." You peck his lips.
"Its just to remind you of me. When we have our own missions later on." Hoseok's face turns a little glum. Especially with the conclusion of the interview earlier.
"Now you're making me feel bad for not getting you anything." You pout but he captures your lips in his again.
"This is enough." He raises his wrist.
Hoseok runs a finger over the fading scar below his thumb as you drive quietly to somewhere Hoseok doesn't question.
He got you the necklace months before he gave it to you then a week later he left you through a voice message.
"This is a safehouse, we can set up camp here. I can't trust anyone else with what we might find." Hoseok just nods and follows you. You take the bag from the back and walk into a two storey apartment in the middle of a quiet village.
"Hello!" An old lady greets you as you cross the yard towards the front door. You both simply bow and smile as you enter the house.
Hoseok notices the lack of cold space in the house, it was cozy and warm inside, not at all what he expected when you said it was a safe house.
You notice his frown as he looks around.
"Yes, Hoseok. I live here, this is not a safe house- safe house this is a my personal home that the bureau has no idea about because I too fear for my life." You state simply. "There's a bedroom with a blue door upstairs, you can settle there but if you're going to have your stuff dropped off you can meet them at the actual safe house 2 blocks away."
You leave him in the living room and walk down the hall towards your home office where everything was white from the walls to the tables.
Having Hoseok here, in your personal space again feels nostalgic. All the days he spent at your place were filled with laughter or even petty arguments but none lasted more than a day, you'd always end up compromising with him. Your situation with Hoseok was easy, although it did occur to you that he may feel like he wants more but you both never spoke of it. Afraid of what the future might hold in your type of career.
A knock on the door pulls you out of your thoughts.
"I need the keys to the actual safe house. I'm going to wait for my stuff there and I think its best if I stayed there." You expected this offer do you just nod.
"They keys are hanging by the front door. Its the set with the Elmo keychain." He nods as well and walks out of the house towards the actual safe-house with the address on his phone.
As you rummage through the trash, organizing each piece by size, throwing away what look like useless pieces. You sigh step back for a second.
Your body wants to work on this but your mind just keeps reeling towards Hoseok.
6 years is way too long to be hung up. Comparing him to every guy you dated, not one even came close. You didn't have friends here, so nobody could really scold or distract you from what life should have been.
It always went back to Hoseok. What's even worse is that, it's not even a relationship. You were friends with benefits but those benefits were never really clear. You were even exclusive with each other, which is a dumb friends-with-benefits set up.
"Fuck my life." You groan and go back to the mess on the table and busy yourself with finding anything that would help.
Hoseok stood on the porch of the safe house, the interior was too creepy and he regrets suggesting that he would stay here tonight. A sleek black car stops in front, and the intern from earlier steps out and takes Hoseok's bag from the back seat.
"Jin, right?" The man nods and peers behind Hoseok. "Oh, YN's not here right now."
"Ah, right." Jin takes something out from the front seat of his car. "This is takeout from her favorite Thai restaurant. Could just give it to her? There's enough to share." The man gives Hoseok a warm smile.
"Oh, thanks. I'll let her know... And thanks for the coffee earlier." Jin beams at Hoseok's words which was a bit creepy but maybe that's just what he is.
"Thanks, Hoseok." He winks and walks back to the car and drives off.
Hoseok definitely felt creepy vibes from him. He's not even sure how old the man is but he addressed Hoseok as if he was older. He should look into him later.
Now, with the dinner in his hands he has a reason to walk back to your place, he takes his bag with him and locks the door of the actual safe house.
You're exactly right where he left you, except this time you have a bottle of wine next to you and some R&B music playing in the background that has you nodding along to the music. You were in your own little world and Hoseok always loved seeing you like this.
The music gets a little groovy and you start moving your hips to the music. When you turn to Hoseok you don't startle, instead you try to pull him into the dance, Hoseok glances at the almost empty bottle of wine in the corner and blames that.
When your hip hits the corner of the table you hiss but laugh at the same time. Hoseok asks if you're okay and you just nod and turn down the music.
"Sorry about that." You mumbled and gave him half a smile. "Its just, I haven't had company in a while and seeing you just sort of brought me back."
"I think its the wine talking." Hoseok takes a deep breath. "You should rest, I'll take over."
"The wine and whiskey are to blame, but I'm sharp as a knife." You grin at him, Hoseok tried to look for the bottle of whiskey but you must have thrown it out already.
"Jin dropped off some dinner along with my stuff, come eat." You take off your gloves and follow him into the dining room.
You and Hoseok were never one to prolong arguments and there is one long overdue that Hoseok has to own up to.
"YN." Hoseok starts but you start opening the food and take a good whiff. "YN?"
"Oh, sorry. Yes?" You both take a seat at the table and out of habit, you and Hoseok alternately distribute the food among your plates but nobody addresses it.
"When I left..." You freeze at his words.
"Don't. Please, not now." You speak but he cuts you off.
"No, I have to say it now or—" You raise your hand and give him a genuine smile.
"I'll hear you out tomorrow. I'm not exactly sober right now, Hobi." You pat his hand that was resting on the table and proceed to eating. The nickname hits him like a freight train.
Hearing it from you again, even when a little drunk takes him back to when you were his. Well, not exactly his. He has too many missed opportunities during your time together, he should've gone all in on you but he was worried you didn't feel the same as he did.
You looked across the table, it felt like a dream. One day, he was gone. Next, he's right back here having dinner with you as if nothing happened.
Nothing did happen, you weren't his girlfriend, you've met his family once, you're friends, best ones. A genuine friendship with a bit of sex.
Who are you kidding? Looking at Hoseok right now is painful. Because every time your eyes connect you're back beneath him, moaning and begging. When you decided to get drunk tonight, you didn't expect him to come back, he said he was sleeping at the safe house.
You're actually afraid of what might happen if you both sleep under the same roof. Not that you won't like it but you've put your feeling up on a shelf, luckily Hoseok is tall enough to reach for it and hand it to you on a fucking crystal platter.
"Is everything okay? Does you hip hurt?" Hoseok looked worried. It was not your hip that hurt it was the throbbing pain between your legs that just as much pulses as your bleeding heart.
"I feel haunted right now." You blurt and Hoseok frowns. "Not haunted like actual ghosts but by you." His mouth goes into a tight line and he takes a sip of water.
"If you would just let me explain—" You raise your hand again.
"Over breakfast. Just let me speak for now, because I don't know when will I let this feelings out. You owe me that much." Hoseok just nods and lets you continue. "So, I told myself hundreds of times that the first thing I wanted to say to you if ever we saw each other again was 'FUCK YOU'." You breathe deeply.
"Understandable." Hoseok peeps.
"I had a lot of maybes, a lot of ifs, and could've beens but it was too late. I tried calling, I even spoke to your mother. Took me three years to realize, why was I even trying so hard to look for you when you left." A tear had finally escaped your eye and Hoseok was quick with the tissue.
"Fuck. I hated you." You looked down. "I wanted to hate you all these years... But I couldn't." You try to smile but it pops your bubble you're full on sobbing. Hoseok had gotten on his knees hugging your torso.
"I'm so sorry, YN." His voice cracked.
You finally sobered up a little and took a deep Inhale. Your hand patting Hoseok's head.
He was about to speak when a soft alarm goes off in your office, ruining the mood but you were in the middle of a crisis and duty calls.
"What is it?" Hoseok's eyes were red and puffy mirroring your face.
"Someone is trying to break into the safehouse." You start up your computers, there were cameras all over.
A man was trying to pick the lock at the front door, behind him stood three more men, armed.
When they got impatient they just rammed through the door, the lights inside the house where automatic when the front door is forced open. You dial the number to the local sheriff and he says he's on the way with backup.
"You're going to leave it to the sheriff?" Hoseok frowns and you shake your head.
"Its as if you don't know me, Hobi." With a click of your button your booby traps start booby trapping.
You did treat your missions like games, Hoseok remembers you being obsessed with scooby doo and from what he can see, most of the traps are Scooby inspired.
"Okay, we got two out of the four!" You wait for him to give you a high-five and he just chuckles and gives it to you.
You smile at each other and watch as the local police gather the trapped ones.
"Hey." You answer the call, from the security cameras. Hoseok can tell which one are you talking to. "Yeah, we'll meet you there."
You nod at Hoseok and decide it was a quick walk. You can see the police lights from where you're coming from.
"Park." You call for the sheriff who was standing by his car while his team searched the area for the other two.
"LN." His attention turned to Hoseok. "And Jung Fucking Hoseok!" His face lights up. "How are you man, haven't seen you since academy days!" Hoseok looked confused. "Oh, shit." He takes off his fake mustache and sun glasses.
"Park Fucking Jimin!" They hugged.
You smile at their exchange, you excuse yourself as you approach the house and inspect the door. The captured men were in the back of Jimin's patrol car.
"I'll hand them off to you after we go through protocol." Jimin and Hoseok were still talking.
"Hand them?" You frown.
"They're wanted in different countries. Interpol can take them." You nod. "But we'll let you interrogate them of course."
You take a ride with the police cars towards Jimin's station. He's undercover for a while now so when the bureau was leaked, he already established a different identity in this part of town. You knew he's also be working on this case.
Hoseok was the first to interrogate one of the two men.
"How does it feel to see the dead rise again?" Jimin teases as you both watch Hoseok from behind the one-way window.
"You have no idea. Just when I thought the bureau couldn't surprise me anymore they hit me with this. After 6 fucking years." Jimin was a friend from the academy and was even closer with Hoseok.
"I always felt like he was just somewhere in the world, remember the rumour that he might even be undercover? Not gonna lie, something about him is off now. Like he's always on guard." Jimin's words made you think, he noticed that within the hour he saw Hoseok yet you were with him all day and you focused simply on your feelings that you failed to be wary of him.
Instead of observing the man being interrogated, you observe Hoseok for the first time.
His hair was longer, body was bigger, demeanor much more intimidating, not once did you hear him laugh today, not that you remember.
When he spoke to the Russian this morning, he didn't immediately translate what that bastard said. Was he planning to withhold information from you? He was able to draw out information too fast.
He felt sincere at dinner, fucker even cried. But he was worried why you were leaving the job to the Sheriff. The Russian man said it the leader wasn't Russian...
"Hey, I got all the information we need." Hoseok beams as he steps out of the room.
Okay, now it was too fast. He did it even without torturing or even annoying the man. You try to push down your thoughts.
"Are you okay? You look pale." Hoseok's frown is back as he studies your face.
"Oh, I think its just the alcohol." He takes your answer.
You both leave the other man to Jimin so you can match stories later on. One of the deputies drop you off at the actual safehouse.
The sun is just about to come up when you start walking back to your place.
"They were Italian." Hoseok speaks freely now that you're in the confines of your house. "Let me make a call to a friend and confirm."
You both take a spot on the couch he calls on the phone and puts it on speaker.
"Cassano." The other line speaks.
"Are you involved?" Hoseok asks in perfect Italian. Not even bothering to explain because he was sure the news of the leak has reached every gang, mafia and thug on the street.
"We'd never stoop that low, Jung. All I heard was, he wasn't from the west." You both purse your lips and try to think deeply.
"Thank you." The call ends there.
"Okay, now let me make a call." You take out your own phone and put it on speaker.
"YN, sweetheart. How are things?" A sweet deep Russian voice sounds through the phone and Hoseok couldn't help but frown again.
At this rate those lines on his forehead should stay permanent.
"Hello, Leewon." You chuckle into the phone. "I'm good. Let me just ask if you were involved?" A chuckle echos and you smile too.
"As if we'd put you in danger, sweetheart. Ceasar and I know better. Don't worry, we wouldn't waste our time." You smile, thinking about the man on the line.
"Of course you wouldn't. Stay safe, Leewon." The call ends there and Hoseok still has a frown on his face.
"Leewon?" He asks you, you smirk.
"He's in control of the two Russian mafias. Well, technically his husband and father but he's the queen bee. We were friends in high school." You lean back and think about the events of today.
Hoseok just nods also thinking about the events of today, but his day consisted of you alone. You've matured a lot, you've lost your baby fat, you figure is much more slim but your playfulness is still there, your adventurous spirit filled Hoseok with content. He hasn't felt this way since... You.
The sun starts shining through the curtains just has he hears your light snores. You body sprawled out on the couch. He's thinking about carrying you to the bed but that would invade your privacy too much he decides on placing a blanket over you.
Hoseok slept for 2 hours then proceeded to rummage through the trash you both brought home.
He notices a small fleck of gold from the ashes, he uses a tweezer to pick it up.
He places it in a ziplock bag and puts it aside, he hears the water running from the kitchen, he knows you're up already but he stayed focused on finding whatever can help.
The sooner you get a lead, the sooner everyone can sleep better.
The sooner you'd stop being partners.
Hoseok stops at his thought. He has a time limit to making things right, he should balance work and personal life.
"Did you find anything?" You stand by the door, hair disheveled from your sleep but still beautiful.
"Yeah, this." Hoseok hands you the chip. "It looks like a micro sim card."
"Let's take it to the lab later. Come, have breakfast. You said you wanted to talk." Hoseok follows you out of the room.
Feels like deja vu sitting on this table about to open up some boxed feelings over toast and butter.
You've made his coffee just how he likes it, sweet and strong. You both make eye contact and you smile as you bite out of your sandwich. Hoseok clears his throat and you nod, giving him the go signal.
"Remember when I had that interview, the night I gave you that necklace." You nod. "Well, they said I excelled fast. And that they needed me to go undercover like deep undercover. I had to start low and gain my ranks, I was able to infiltrate the group, slowly pull them apart and now they're either dead or in jail. They were human traffickers. it was traumatic but I had to pull through, I thought it would take a year or so, I didn't really put much thought into it but it took me 5 years to finish, then they asked me to keep it low for a year. Now, here we are." You stare at him.
In a flash you arms wrap around his head in a tight hug. Hoseok wraps his arms around your torso again.
Hoseok looks up at you and cups your face, you try to hold back the tears.
"I'm sorry you had to go through that." You whispered.
"I'm sorry I left you alone." Hoseok whispers back.
"In a way, I felt like that was the reason you left me. But still, that was a shitty way to say goodbye." You both giggle.
His hand wraps around yours, he releases a deep breath. Finally, some closure.
Your doorbell rings for the first time in a while, you frown and grab a gun from one of your holsters.
You take a peek through the window and decide to open the door.
"Jin?" You question the intern.
"YN. You're alive!" He hugs you and you pull away, he's never hugged you before.
"I am. What are you doing here?" It troubles you that he knows your house, your home.
"That's not important. What happened last is already under the wraps." He winks like your life isn't in danger.
Hoseok studies him, he's way to confident in his own skin. Barging in on you at your home, hugging? Hoseok saw your face, it was unusual for you.
You didn't invite Jin inside, instead you followed him out and escorted him to his car all while he explained that he was worried when he heard about it and that they were notified.
You didn't report anything to your boss yet. Did Hoseok? No, you were together last night. Unless he made the call while you were asleep. But why would he give your address when he knew the risks.
You look back at the house where Hoseok was watching you and Jin from the porch, the frown back on his face.
"YN, I need you to listen to me." Jin grabs your attention. "Something's off with this guy, his file is too clean." Jin whispers into your ear.
"I can handle it, Kim Seokjin." You practically shove him in his car. "Stop worrying about me." You bid before going up towards Hoseok.
You decide to keep your suspicions to yourself until you have clean evidence that Hoseok may be involved. You groan as you stomp back to your bedroom, followed by Hoseok.
"Go shower, get dressed. We need to move it today, Jin already knows where I live. There's something off." You hope he catches on what you're trying to say.
While in his supposed room, Hoseok gets a call from one of his colleagues.
"We have a lead." His deep voice sounds him out. "We received a tip, last name is LN, eliminate her." His blood runs cold, before he could protest the line cuts off, he tries calling back to ask for more details but all he received was a photo of you talking to someone dressed in all black and another photo that same figure coming out of the server room.
From your room in the first floor, you received the same instructions from your boss. A tip that points another finger at Hoseok.
They send you an image of Hoseok speaking to a man in an alley and the same man leaving the building. You can't tell if it was a fake photo from all the nerves building in you.
Hoseok speeds up packing his stuff. He can't trust anyone but he can certainly trust you, but he had felt the distance that took 6 years to grow. You do know someone from the Russian mob, how can he be sure that Leewon isn't lying on your behalf?
You stand in the living room with your backpack filled with some clothes and mostly weapons. With shaky hands you take a cigarette out of your pocket and put it between your lips.
Trust noone.
6 years, you waited. 6 years, you were alone. No more hiding, no more lies. It took you a long time to get here.
If they want you to eliminate each other then so be it. It ends tonight.
A creak comes from behind and you whip out your hand gun and point it directly at Hoseok who has his hand on his hip as well.
He raises his hands in surrender.
"Its just me." Hoseok speaks barely above a whisper. You take a drag of your cigarette and secure the gun back on your hip. "You got another one?" He nods towards your cigarette.
You hand him a stick and a lighter. You both smoke in silence, your thoughts all over the place. The tension in the room is so thick, that you have to manually shoo away the smoke.
"Let's move." You kill the cigarette in your ashtray and he follows suit.
"I'll drive." Hoseok's voice was stern, like he was angry. Instead of protesting, you toss him the keys and leave the front of your house.
Hoseok's route was familiar, all too familiar. You know where he's headed but you don't speak. You practice your monologue in your mind on how you're going to confront the man that was said to be behind all this.
Hoseok parks the car a couple of blocks away from your previous apartment. The one where you spent your academy days together.
The elevator ride was silent, too silent.
You follow him like a cat towards food. No exchange of words just gestures.
The moment the two of you are inside you drop your bags and your hand guns are pointed at each other again. You don't know how long you stood like that but looking at Hoseok with his gun readily pointed at you makes you think that maybe he brought you here on purpose so you'd let your guard down. The placed meant too much that you actually don't mind dying here, so you surrender yourself to him just as you did 7 years ago. You take deep breaths, trying to control your tears from blocking your view.
"I can't." You lower your gun, he shakes his head, the gun still on you.
"Don't do this to me. Fight me." He says through his teeth. "Come on! You've been wanting to kill me for the past 6 years!" Hoseok's tears free fall, looking behind you he sees the kitchen where you would often cook or just hang, he can't believe you would do it but orders are orders.
You continue to cry and drop the gun on the floor. "I have done nothing but love you for the past 7 years." Your voice was weak. 7 years in included the time you were together.
You close your eyes and expect him to pull the trigger but instead all you hear is the gun dropping and feel his lips on yours. You kiss back with all the pent up frustrations, all the anger, all love you've kept inside.
He picks you up by the waist making you wrap your legs around his torso while his hands move swiftly beneath on your ass.
Hoseok takes a seat on the couch with you on his lap. You break away from the kiss but he keeps you in a tight embrace. None of you dared to move, afraid that if you do your bubble would pop and you'd have to kill each other again.
"I would never hurt you again." He whispers into your shoulder. "You kept me alive. Whenever I got hurt I would think of you, when I was lonely I fed myself fantasies of a life with you, I missed you. So. Fucking. Much." His voice cracked and it hurt you to see him this vulnerable.
You lift his face off your shoulder and land a soft kiss on his lips, his cheeks, his eyes that had turned red from crying, his forehead where your lips linger for a moment.
"I was given information that you were behind the leak." He admits and you slightly pull away. "I was ordered to kill you." He couldn't look up at you but you made him.
"I received the same order." He wasn't surprised. "Maybe one of us is lying, maybe we're being played but I trust you with my life."
"And if you wanted to kill me, you would have. I know you." He's whispering.
You stare at each other in silence but his eyes suddenly widen and he gestures for you to be quiet. You try to listen for what he hears, there's a light ticking from somewhere, he gently slides you off himself and heads towards the kitchen where in the oven, sits a homemade bomb with 7 seconds on the clock.
"RUN!" You both bolt for the door but it was too late, the explosion had burned through your back as you both jump in the hallway.
You feel yourself hit the wall
"Hoseok!" You shout from the ringing in your eyes, you can see blood blocking your sight, through the pain in your arms you push yourself off the floor.
You sit up and clutch your left rib, you try to slow down your breathing. You can feel cuts and burns everywhere but that's not what's important.
"HOSEOK!" You shout again, unable to see through one eye. "Hobi please!" You try again
"There you are." A large man stood at the end of the hallway. You couldn't make out who he was until he approached.
It was the Russian you shot yesterday. He was limping but behind him was another man.
"Take her." The other man picks you up despite all the pain you thrash in his arms, you felt a prick in your ass.
"Hoseok! Let me go!" You continue until a haze suddenly hits you and you're suddenly out of strength.
"Hoseok..." You whisper as you feel yourself go limp, you make one last attempt to see him and you're met with the sight of his body sprawled beneath some debris before you turn the corner.
"Hoseok?" Your sweet voice rings in his ears. "You're home." He sees your sweet smile again as you cook some spaghetti in your shared apartment. "You look tired, bad day?" He shakes his head. "Something wrong?" You ask but Hoseok couldn't open his mouth to speak, instead he kisses your forehead but as he pulled away, he sees blood dripping from your hairline. He grabs a towel to wipe it but sees his own hands covered in blood, he looks back at you but you're not there anymore. He tries to call you but his voice doesn't come. "Hoseok, let me go."
Hoseok coughs as he regains consciousness his body in immense pain as he received majority of the blast after pushing you out of the way.
"YN." His throat was dry and he could feel his lip bleed.
He takes a deep breath and push himself out of the debris and up, he calls out for you again. He was sure he pushed you out of the door, he sees a hand print of blood on the wall that looked like it was dragged away, he placed his hand on it and by the size, he knows its you.
Someone took you. Were you okay? He hopes you're not hurt as bad as he is.
Why didn't he noticed that the apartment complex seemed abandoned, nobody came to check on the explosion. Not so much as a report to the police.
He limps his way outside the almost burned building, he was lucky it rained that most of the fire had been put out.
There's a payphone by the corner of this complex, he should have enough strength to get there and call for help. There was nobody around, not even the police or anything.
He reaches the payphone, he leans his entire frame on the wall before picking up the phone to dial a secret number.
"Jeon's Funeral Homes and Pizzeria where yesterday's loss is today's sauce, what can I get started for you?" A man's voice comes through the phone and Hoseok feels relief wash through him.
"4 cheese family size for JHS0218, Andrea Apartment Complex, Apartment 2A." The line cuts and Hoseok vomits.
Not even 15 minutes later a pink pizza delivery car parks in front of Hoseok. Two men come out and helps him up into the van before speeding away.
"Hoseok? Can you hear me?" That voice sounds familiar. "Come back brother."
"Yoongi." Hoseok feels slightly better although he feels high, probably on the painkillers since he sees the IV bag hanging above him.
The unsteady floor makes him believe that they're still on the road but he feels the bandages on his skin.
"Take it slow, we're almost there, stay with me." Hoseok's friend looks at him and back at the driver who asks if he's awake.
Yoongi and Jungkook were the only two genuine friends he was able to make while undercover. He had freed them both from almost torture for crimes their superiors committed. Yoongi was a nurse and Jungkook was a student who had wronged the son of the mob that Hoseok was undercover in. When he 'disposed' of them, he would help them get new identities.
"We have to find her." Hoseok whispers. "I can't leave her."
"Let's get you patched up first." Jungkook says before swerving into an exit leaving the city.
Jungkook reaches his house in no time, rushing to help Yoongi haul Hoseok into a bedroom where he reluctantly lays down.
"Just give me pain killers and I'll be—" He groans at a sharp pain under his rib."—on my way."
"Shut up before I shove the piece of wood further up your ribcage." Is that what that pain was? Yoongi could be exaggerating but he hands a bottle of antiseptic to Jungkook who takes Hoseok through the pain.
"So, who do we need to find?" Jungkook asks, distracting Hoseok as Yoongi picks out glass and wood off his torso.
"YN." Hoseok says before howling at the pain from pulling a 3 inch plywood that was under his skin.
"Your lover?" Jungkook recalls the name, Hoseok had shared their story when he was in captivity. "You got back with her." A smile grows on Jungkook's face but is instantly replaced by a grimace as he watches Yoongi stitch Hoseok up.
"Not exactly but... She waited." Hoseok's heart hurts over the events of today. "And I'm not stopping until I find her."
