Mapping Fruit Fly Brain

Recently scientists have mapped out the entire brain of a fruit fly! Using AI and two years of slicing and dicing with Google's money, they have mapped out in 3D all 140,000 neurons and around 50 million neural connections! 60% of the fruit fly's genetics and brain mapping is found in higher animals and in humans. The human brain has about 80 million neurons with trillions of connections. The lab rat has 70 million neurons with trillion neural connections!

Science, using the accurate computer model, can now mimic the fruit fly's neural connections with its resulting behavior! Basically, science is demonstrating the principle of our thinking: a wave of energy traveling down certain brain circuits. The more the neural connections are used, the stronger the connections become!

The best way to understand this is from this analogy I postulated over ten years ago: imagine the water from a flowing river and some of the water overflows onto its sandy banks. The pattern in the sand depends on the amount of water, its force, and the sand itself. The variety of patterns is 10 to the 50 power!

This is the principle that our brain is automatic, just like the overflowing from a moving river!

One little thing I absolutely adore about Deadfire is how gorgeous the ingame maps are. As a map enjoyer I'm genuinely struggling to think of any I like more, it's just presented in such a clean & informative & well stylised way.

Also the info box in the top right corner is such a neat little touch, if we ever get PoE 3 I hope they keep this style.

Prosper, Hewn City historian and diplomat. Pre-Shatter, there were two Beastclan societies -- one Talonok and one Longneck -- that built most of the "ruins" of the Sunbeam Ruins. Unfortunately, this area was one of the hardest hit by the first appearance of dragons, being the birthplace of the Emperors. The Talonok, who lived mostly north of the river, never really regained a presence in the area until modern times, drawn in by the newer metropolis of Lanternlea. But south of the river, the ancient Longneck society still maintains a presence in the Hewn City, despite the cursed remains of early Fourth Age magic cast there and the Shade it attracts to this day. Prosper acts as a liaison between local governments inside the City and the councils in Lanternlea, and is generally an enthusiast of exploring the ruin's mysteries. His frequent exposure to Shade remnants seems to have dulled the yellow of his eyes.

i posted this on my twitter already BUT! the tumblr people should see too.

have u guys ever noticed how in the pleiades night outfits, only natsume and tsumugi have a pentagram on their designs? this is likely a reference to the Pentagram of Venus!

as 5 periods of Venus take eight years, it makes it so when viewed from earth, Venus is in the same position with respect not only to the sun, but also the stars 5 times! with its path creating a pentagram, its recognized as the Pentagram of Venus in astrology! only natsume and tsumugi have a reference to Venus, the planet of love!!

and for anyone confused, note how one circle is for venus and the other for earth, just like in their design!! venus also conjunctions with the pleiades yearly!!! its all connected!! its so cool!!!!

“I was… I sleepwalk. I was sleepwalking.” The words tumble over each other. Henry keeps his eyes on a point just above Hans’s shoulder. He sees his face in the corner of his periphery, Hans’s eyebrows drawing together in the middle, his lips pursing as he mulls over this revelation.

Finally, he says, “You what? And you just came to my room with a sword bared? Christ’s wounds. How long has this been going on?”

Henry rubs his eyes. They feel grainy and tired. The room is warm and inviting, even with the fire in the grate slowly dying. He finds himself leaning slightly toward Hans and the soft feather bed but straightens up quickly. “I don’t know. It started a little after Skalitz. Just before I met you. I sleep like shit, and when I do, sometimes I wake up somewhere else.”

“Jesus,” Hans says again. “When you say somewhere else—”

“Outside sometimes. Another town, other times.”

“God.” Hans arm shifts against Henry, then his fingers close around the edge of Henry’s sleeve. “Lay down.”

Henry opens his eyes. It’s cold outside, or there’s a fire in the mantle inside, or there’s revelry downstairs at the Devil’s Den, or a warm body beside him until it’s not there anymore. A story inspired by the Somnambulant negative perk.
