Why undoing things is hard:

I am inherently, a very lazy person. And I cannot stand being bored. This has, of course, resulted in me being really into coding and automation.

And when I begin my journey as a mathematician, thirteen-year-old me was really sure I'd figure out how to write just the right algorithm that would automatically solve all math problems. But this is actually really hard.

Now, naively, it's really easy. You just write a code that takes the axioms of a system, your premises, and then just tries to apply every single possible rule to generate more statements until it either proves or disproves what you want.

But two problems arise: halting problem, and the fact that it takes a really, really, long time to get anything done.

Maybe you can mitigate the halting problem somehow or something, you could additionally try adding proving the statement is unprovable as a stopping condition, but maybe it is unprovable that it's unprovable, or maybe it's unprovable that it's ... I'll stop.

But that doesn't much matter if it's going to take a twenty years to prove a single statement. At that point, you might as well prove it yourself.

Let's say we have a proof checker, it starts with a proof and then tells you that it is valid. If we run this algorithm backwards, then... shouldn't we get a valid proof?

This, quite obviously, doesn't work. Or at least, doesn't work easily. (The fact that it doesn't work is tied with P vs NP) It's less obvious when you're trying to do this without realising you're trying to do this. But for some reason it took me a while to realise why that wasn't 'easier'.

The reason it doesn't work finally clicked with a Rubik's cube. If I run an algorithm like CFOP on a cube to solve it, then I can run CFOP backwards to get the original position, starting from a solved cube? Nope. Mathematically, the best I can do is reduce it to 1/12th of the states, leaving some 43 quintillion (43,252,003,274,489,856,000) possible starting points which all end up in the same ending point. Running an algorithm backward isn't just some trivial thing. It's a whole millennium problem, you get a million dollars if you figure all of this out, since running verification backwards is what all of P vs NP is.

At some point after that, I learned there's a whole field of math devoted to this.

And today, I watched a YouTube video about someone trying to run Conway's Game of Life backwards. It's not easy to find even one possible backwards step. And I remembered this.

So, to everyone here, I suggest learning about SAT solvers! They're cool! That's a whole branch of math devoted to doing this.

I made Steve a math teacher in one of my AUs and a lot of people were like, ‘I don’t think Steve is good at math.’

But I do!

I don’t think he’s great a mental math or necessarily all that fast with it but I think if you give him some paper and time, and he’s figure it out. Steve has been shown to be a pretty good problem-solver, the bulk of math is just ‘figuring it out.’

None of this matters because most of the time, we make Steve a second grade teacher so he’s doing all the subjects anyways.

I just think he’d be good at math.

(Completely valid to make his an English or history teacher though)

TONE DEAF :: Rosita and Norman <3

The first in a [hopefully] series of redesign + headcanon posts where I give you my take on a character for my AU

I'm grouping the two together because a] a lot of fluff headcanons I have, they share [because they're literally husband and wife]. And b] if I made an individual post for every single character, I... would go insane. So yeah. A bunch of characters are gonna get clumped together.

HEADCANONS // BACKSTORY ⬇️

Me and the bad bitch I pulled by being autistic [also autistic]

Both of them are the same age, mid to late thirties.

In terms of general intelligence: Rosita has gifted IQ, while Norman is at genius level.

I know. I know Norman seems kinda dim in the movies. But guys [LMAO]. "I know it looks like there's nothing happening behind those eyes, but...... he can make entire computers!"

He's so smart yet so stupid. He's that kind of character. Like he can do all of this super impressive shit, and is super talented and can do math like BOOM done, but he's also kinda a "deer-in-the-headlights" when it comes to life [I LOVE HIM 👹]

Both of them worked hard and have their college degrees almost completely paid off at this point because of the scholarships they earned.

Rosita has a degree in engineering, Norman's a computer scientist.

They're both in STEM, it's just that Rosita likes to handle more of the mechanical aspects of things while Norman's better with the technical stuff, which I think is cute af.

Yin and Yang <3

This dynamic is just how they are too. How they act. Like for example, Rosita can be very to-the-point-

She's very much a problem solver and will get right to it once she understands what she's doing. Like yeah, she often takes a very methodical approach to it [see the scene where she's got all the papers laid out to try and learn to dance- very new territory for her], but once she learns, she gos all in. And EATS.

Norman's gotta have a plan before doing anything, meanwhile. He has a morning routine that can't be interrupted or else his whole day and mood will be thrown off. He reads through a recipe twice before even starting. That kind of stuff.

He's a lot more hesitant to even try.

A lot of people find Norman boring. But Rosita is enraptured by every word he says, she LOVES his long spiels about hyper-specific [and often mundane] things.

AAAA--

Norman is also a closeted DORK. He ran a tabletop games club in highschool with a couple other of his geeky ass friends [he's still into D&D to this day and has introduced Rosita to the game too]

[she's fun to play with, but super competitive. This goes for ANY game, actually, not just D&D. She'll kinda accidentally turn everything into a "contest" due to her inability to not do her very best] [it's mostly inspirational, not annoying, if that makes sense?]

I also wanna say Norman was in a weird amount of drama that he didn't want to be in at this time. Like all of his friends had falling-outs, and he was just always caught in the middle of it.

He's afraid of confrontation [UNLESS IT'S FOR HIS WIFE] [HE STANDS UP FOR HER RAHHHH] [this is gonna happen when I get to rewriting Sing 2, he's NOT just gonna take Crystal calling his WIFE "mommy pig"]

They're sooo "excuse me, he asked for no pickles"

Norman and Rosita technically met in high school, in Junior year when Norman first moved to Calatonia.

WHICH, he and his family did this because this was a point in time where laws having to do with the rights of animals were VERY flimsy, and Calatonia was one of the first and only safe places at the time-- for Pigs especially, actually.

The 3 Little Pigs is deadass CANON TO SING. So Pigs were/are actually a marginalized species in this universe.

So anyway, they "met" in high school- Norman totally crushed on Rosita from afar whenever he'd catch her in volleyball matches-

Rosita had a major tomboy phase throughout high school, slowly falling out of it during college [still only saves dresses and skirts for special occasions really]

[[Fun fact, Rosita is also sapiosexual [attracted to intelligence] [Roxanne Ritchi ahh] ]]

They actually got introduced to eachother and had a proper arc when they went to the same college [which might've been a college in Redshore actually? But I'm not 100% sure on that headcanon. It would line up since Rosita's "wanted to perform in Redshore since she was a little kid" and Redshore is obviously a massive city with a lot of notoriety. Idk though- and it's not really that important to the story anyways]

Norman and Rosita had plans together- they were gonna make it big and live freely. Things were looking up with the lawmakers, who were finally repealing a bunch of nasty stuff that was put in place during the war times. And the two had hope that their dreams could actually be accomplished.

Rosita, who was originally gonna play it safe and become an engineer, was now thinking about attempting to become a performer [which Norman has supported since the beginning, he LOVES her singing, and often tells her that she's "better than some of the people I've heard on TV!"]

But. Life got in the way...

Present day, Norman works in Redshore at Crystal Enterprises. He's the head of some sort of organizational team- not really working on what he loves at this point.

And this is because of their children, who were a very sudden appearance in their lives [which is why we see so much struggle in the chaos at the beginning of the movie in this AU]

Rosita stopped everything, and Norman grabbed the first high-ish paying job he could, spending all his spare time on clocking in overtime hours.

The kids are all adopted, and there's only 6 now: Oldest Caspar [13], twin boys Mickey and Moe [11], middle child Kelly [9], little bro Freddy[8], and Zoey the sweet baby sister [6].

They became foster parents after the death of Rosita's sister [this hc is kinda subject to change, but this is the story rn. I'll specify on this later ☝️]

So Rosita's kinda put her life on hold for these babies. She's such a great mom to them, and they love her and Norman so much

But some of the older kids [Caspar specifically] are kinda in a rough phase since they feel like she resents them [which she doesn't], or that she isn't their "real mom" [which she IS]

This is like an E plot in the story, but definitely's gonna get at least a little bit of focus.

Rosita and Norman's marriage is falling apart just a little bit due to burnout, but it'll get better <3 [I can't do anything tragic to these two they're too sweet]

Norman snuggles up to Rosita in his sleep. Rosita starfishes LMAO

They wake up entangled. This is normal.

"Pig piles" are also a thing- there have been several nights where all six children "had nightmares" and so the family of 8 all slept in the same bed.

Norman has the best bond with the two girls out of all the children. They immediately latched onto him to be their level-headed dad.

Rosita can carry two kids at once easily, and often "relocates" them like this :>

She's probably the strongest out of everyone in the troupe if you don't count the potential Meena has. She solos.

She's constantly taking notes on everyone and everything around her. At the theater, you'll catch her tidying stuff up she spots out of the corner of her vision while you're having a conversation with her [she's still listening]. She knows everyones favorite foods, and allergies, and their preferences in things, etc. She's the most attentive and considerate out of all of them [the mom]

She may have a touch of OCD.

She gives the best hugs.

Rosita is also a FANTASTIC cook [not even a headcanon, I'm pretty sure the entire fandom agrees on this one] and often bakes stuff for her sweet-toothed children [and husband]

This is actually how she initially connected with Caspar, who refused to eat or speak at first when they were all placed with Rosita.

Cinnamon rolls.

Kelly will only eat the frosting off the top, and has ruined an entire pan before by doing this.

Rosita actually isn't the biggest fan of chocolate, small detail.

Idk why she just strikes me as not being an enjoyer.

Loves vanilla though. People are furious when she answers "vanilla" with zero hesitation to the chocolate vs vanilla question.

Norman is kinda a hopeless romantic, or at least really enjoys the aesthetic of it [in a sweet and not shallow way ofc], and goes all out every Valentine's Day: balloons, flowers, the works. He's learned that Rosita prefers strawberries over a box of chocolates, however. Has a tradition of getting a fruit basket for her <3

They also have a tradition from all the way back in college, where they go out to eat at specifically the in-universe equivalent of Olive Garden [which was the fanciest thing they could afford at the time] and eat a shared giant plate of spaghetti.

Norman loves coffee. Insists he likes it black but actually prefers a good 50:50 ratio of creamer and coffee.

Norman is also ☝️ lactose intolerant LMAO

[[or would be, if traditional milk was widely accessible/a thing. I say "lactose intolerant" but what I really mean is he's allergic to most milk substitutes- like nuts and soy [gives him tummy ache, not anaphylaxis] ]]

This is kind of a ramble, hope you’re cool with that. Your writing is everything. Part ten of Odds of Survival is perfect to me. It’s exactly what I wanted in sense of writing when the idea of Mecha AU was first proposed. It’s the perfect mix of hilarious and serious. Everything flows perfectly. The whole idea is absurd and it knows it’s absurd which makes it work in every way. I don’t know how to properly express how this makes me feel. I’m giggling and squealing and kicking my feet, while simultaneously wanting to dig into something with my teeth and shake it around.

The way you wrote how humans and Cybertronians interact was really fun to me. It felt nicely balanced. I loved that humans are acknowledged as weak in comparison to Cybertronians but also super strong with those damn Mecha suits. Other organic aliens not liking Cybertronians is really interesting to me. I love love love world building, and I want to know how these other spices think. Why don’t they like Cybertronians. How could you take one look at giant robot aliens and not think “awesome”? That’s the coolest thing ever. I’d ally with those metal freaks in a heartbeat.

Prowl being shocked about how we do space travel. “What do you mean you use explosives?”. Sir, how else are you supposed to get into space? It gives the implication that most species don’t use highly explosive materials to leave their planet, but have found out another method which I can’t wrap my head around, but is so totally us . We aren’t going to not do something just because it’s dangerous. We’re going to latch onto whatever method works and make it the best it possibly could be.

Elita being disgusted by Jazz moving was so funny. I was cackling. I love the idea of being perceived as gross by aliens. I threaten to smear my hand oils on things just for the heck of it. Speaking of hand oils, did you know that placing your bare skin on certain types of lightbulbs will cause it to explode? The oils in our finger tips will cause the light to heat up unevenly which in turn, makes it exploded and launch molten shard of glass everywhere. Not totally relevant, but I learned this in film class and thought it was a cool thing we could do and really wanted to share. Hope you don’t mind.

Anyway, your mecha fics are amazing, truly. I know you said you were done writing for Odds of Survival, but I hope you keep writing other stuff in the mecha universe. If not that’s cool too. No pressure obviously. I’ll just be content with what you gave us. But seriously. This is so amazing and cool and awesome and just everything. There’s so much more I want to say that I can’t formulate properly, but your writing is good. I like it lots. 10/10

When it comes to truly absurd concepts in stories, I far far more enjoy when writers actually play with the implications of those concepts.

I’m certainly a fan of the Humans are Space Orcs variety of fiction, but mainly I just like it when the human characters are still interesting independent of the alien characters. Generic Everyman humans are fine in the short term but I love when writers flesh out their human and alien characters beyond the surface level of “my species is my personality.”

Jazz is a badass and a liar and an extremely “improvisational ” type of problem solver, which makes writing him interesting. Likewise, Prowl is a genius and a schemer and an extremely stubborn problem solver.

Put the two into a bucket full of problems and it’s a joy to watch them go!

The human/alien dynamic just adds another layer to an already interesting assortment of character interactions.

Prowl is having a hard time imagining what “big missiles” is supposed to mean in terms of space travel.

He isn’t thinking of 50+ people in a command center all working together with an deathly serious amount of math to ensure the rocket makes it to the station safely. Prowl is imagining Jazz holding on to the outside of a missile for dear life.

Likewise, Prowl is thinking they return to the planet by using reverse propulsion from the rockets to slow down, and he is definitely not thinking the actual method of descending from space is “big cloth and some rope”.

The lightbulb funfact is really cool! And yeah, Elita isn’t normally bothered by organics but there was a little too much Freaky going on for one day. The mostly hairless twitching space gerbil was not on her list of things she expected to deal with that day.

I’ve definitely got more ideas planned for the mecha au. There’s a lot of other characters to explore and I’ve been sitting on some plans for a while.

Engineer: - Engi's always wanted kids, and knowing that you were the person to help raise them? It's safe to say he's over the moon - Immediately starts planning both emotionally and practically - he’s a problem-solver, so he begins researching how to best support you through pregnancy - Will design a crib or other baby gear on his own, making sure everything is safe and perfectly customized to how you would like it - Takes on a quiet but confident role, ensuring you’re comfortable and have everything you need - Engineer would be the cool, nerdy dad - building toys, helping with science projects, and encouraging a love for learning - Loves teaching the child practical skills from a young age, whether it’s mechanics, math, or just how things work in general - Will always be there to fix things and solve any problems around the house, and likely pass those skills down to the child - Very patient - always ready to help the kid with whatever they may need - Family is everything to Engineer, and he’d prioritize spending quality time with you and the child

Sniper: - Sniper would be quietly stunned, not sure how to process the news at first, but once it sinks in, he’d be terrified but deeply moved - He isn't someone who wants kids, but seeing you in front of him, smiling and excited to be a parent - it instantly changed his mind - Likely to be concerned about providing a stable life, given his nomadic tendencies, but would resolve to settle down to ensure the best for his future family - Sniper would be a practical, no-nonsense kind of dad, but with a surprising soft side, especially when it comes to bedtime stories or quiet moments - He’d teach the child important survival skills, like camping, fishing, and tracking, wanting them to be independent and capable - Values alone time with the child, whether it's exploring nature or simply sharing quiet moments - Protective, especially in the outdoors - always keeping an eye out and making sure the child is safe in any environment - Although not overly expressive, he’d show his love through actions - always being there, ensuring the family is provided for, and offering quiet support

I know we're focusing on Jaden's teenage years for obvious reasons but I keep thinking about Leo and Luna being spiritshipping kids. The idea that Jaden creates them and entirely by accident is really funny - like maybe after fusing with Yubel he has to leave every once and awhile to expell shadow magic that's built up and then one day that shadow magic somehow creates the twins and he's just like "well shit" and comes home to Jesse hands them to his (now) husband and goes "hold them for me I need to pass out" and the promptly drops unconcious from just how much shadow magic he used. And Jesse (bless him) is like "okay I have to be responsible and rational about this" and proceeds to call Yugi in a panicked mess like "Jay left and now he's back and there's babies!" and we cut to Jesse and Yugi just screaming in a panic while Jaden is passed out blissfully unaware

I love this.

When I tell you there are at least 15 ways you can make Leo and Luna the children of spiritshipping I mean it.

I feel like this would be more of a discussion between Jaden and Jesse and not just a random surprise.

The twins are 11 in the first season of 5Ds and Zerod Revers happened 17 years before. Meaning the twins are born 6 years after Zero Reverse. That means the Muto/Kiaba family has been through and dealt with Zero Reverse.

So if 5Ds is 20 years after Gx they only have 3 years before Disaster (Jaden would be 20/21) and then 6 more years before Leo and Luna (26/27)

I did math is Officer Trudge is the bully from Yugi’s high school and he in his 50s in 5Ds that means 5Ds has to take place 20ish years after Gx. You could push it to 25ish if you want to give them more down time before Zero Reverse, but who wants that.

Anyway that would make Yugi around 51/52 when 5Ds is happening and Jaden would be 37/38

Anyway back to Leo and Luna.

In reality I think it was talked about. They are closing in on 26/27. They have been through a lot of tragedy in their lives, and spend most of their 20s traveling the world/different dimension. This is Jaden’s job. He’s always going to be called to fix the world’s problems, (and believe me Yugi, Seto, and Atem have feelings about that but this post isn’t about them) and Jesse wants to be at his side.

But their friends are settling down and having kids and a families. I feel like Jesse would want that to. I always saw Jesse as someone who wasn’t very close to his birth family or was raised by distant relatives as a result of either his parents being extremely distant or his parents passing away young. His cards are more his family than his biological family. With that I think he really treasures the family he has with Jaden. All their friends and then the Dm cast, it’s more than he’s probably had before.

Jaden’s already given him so much. The best friend/boyfriend/husband he could ever ask for. A tangible way to peruse Jesse’s dream. (Jaden’s end of series mission is literally Jesse’s dream) a reliable family, the Dm cast would do anything for these boys. Friends. Not to mentions Jaden risked so much and went through so much trauma just to save Jesse.

Not to mention that Jaden is always made to give so much. Not in their relationship, but in his relationship with the world. Back in the academy he was treated as the problem solver. When something went wrong they would turn to Jaden to fix it. And it hasn’t changed since graduating, it’s gotten worse. After cleaning up the mess of the supreme king Jaden is now seen as a savior in other dimension. He’s constantly pushing back against the light of destruction.

Jesse’s wants to stand by Jaden’s side. They are each other’s safe havens. And Jesse knows that this is to chaotic of an environment to bring kids into. They are always traveling to different dimensions or jetting across the world to deal with spiritual problems. It’s not like they can retire, and while he could stop and settle down,Jaden can’t, and Jesse can’t leave him to face this all alone.

But knowing that doesn’t mean Jesse doesn’t want kids. And it gets bad when Chazz has Sly. Jesse wants to have kids, he just doesn’t think it’s an option. No adoption agency would put a child with parents who travel as much as they do. They don’t even have a permeate home in this dimension! (They stay with Seto and Yugi when in the dimension)

But Jaden knows Jesse and knows when something is on his mind. The two talk and Jaden had never really thought about kids. He’s so busy saving the world. But now that Jesse has bought it up he can’t get it out of his mind. Having a family with Jesse. Having kids. Seeing his parents as grandparents. He wants that to. And Jesse is right that there are a lot of obstacles between them and having kids but they are also Jaden and Jesse. They can do anything.

And the next time he goes to the spirit world to handle something he goes alone, either to give Jesse a break or maybe the threat was so small it didn’t need both of them. He comes back to Jesse with not one but two accidental babies. He didn’t mean to make them out of thin air but hey that works.

The gentle darkness created the universe. It could make two babies.

Jaden didn’t mean to do it. He was just using his powers and thinking about how much me loves his husband and how much he wants to have a family with him, and suddenly two babies are in his arms and he’s like ‘well not what I had in mind but this works’

Jess absolutely freaks out when he gets home. Once he realizes Jaden did not steal to babies he’s calling g Yugi and Seto and they are all losing their minds while Jaden’s like ‘come on! This isn’t the weirdest thing that’s ever happened.”

Headcanon that Silver trains himself with mind puzzles, mathematical problems and problem solvers to keep his mind nimble.

Since his psionics require brain function he can be seen levitating upside down solving math puzzles at rapid speeds or playing memory games to keep his mental processing skills elastic.

The mental fortitude required to coordinate the moving of large structures, keep up with Sonic in flight and execute complex actions in battle bespeaks a great intelligence in Silver.

I can try to elaborate.

I call the first one Just because that is what it demands. Karma, painful punishment for those who do evil and justice for their victims. It is the moral compass that tells me to punch bigots and act when seeing injustice... Violent retribution and embody judge, jury and executioner. It isn't bad at It's job but it can be very flawed at times...hence the other 3.

I call the second one Kind because it is steeped in compassion. Gentleness between people, concord even. One hand is the art of compromise, it is more fair for everyone to get something. Another hand is belief in humanity, every human has potential to change, there is hope for a better world that starts from compassion towards others. It isn't bad at It's job but it can be very flawed at times...hence the other 3.

I call the third one Innocent because it does not want to be tainted. The mean justify the end, it doesn't matter what that may be. At best it stops sacrifing others for a "greater good", at worst It's inaction in front of complex decisions. There is much good that can be done but that can't come as the expense of doing evil. It isn't bad at It's job but it can be very flawed at times...hence the other 3.

I call the fourth one Pragmatic because it turns morality into what's basically math. The end justifies the means, always. To kill 1 is right if it means saving 5. The life of someone young is worth more then that of someone old. The life of a human is worth more then that of a pet. The life of someone who can help others is worth saving more then that of a murderer. A living trolley problem solver. It isn't bad at It's job but it can be very flawed at times...hence the other 3.

Study Faster And Retain More With This Quick Tip

I don’t know a single student who doesn’t want to study faster and retain more at the same time. I usually get a little nervous when trying to use quick fixes to make this happen, but today I have an actual quick tip to help you do just this!

Being a problem solver by nature, I dug into the situation and tried a few new approaches. Some worked, and some did not.

One of my best strategies was to sort the information into two categories:

facts to be memorized

concepts to be understood

You can use this strategy for any course. No matter the subject, there are things you have to memorize (terminology, dates, names, equations, etc) and concepts you need to master. Identifying this creates a clear, drama-free path, meaning you actually study faster and retain more because you are working on the right information in the right way.

How To Memorize Facts

I used to hate memorization work. It seemed tedious and hard and I sucked at it. Or so I thought!

Turns out I just didn’t have good skills. now I have some strategies in my toolbox and I love fact work. It’s easy and you can master it quickly. The key to mastering memorization is to:

Keep a list of what you need to memorize.

Schedule time every day to work on it. You must have the daily repetition if you want new facts to stick in your short-term memory. Start with just 10-min each day and you will see results.

Vary your memorization strategies. If you use only one strategy it becomes less effective.

How To Master Concepts

How you approach concept mastery is going to vary a lot based on the subject you are studying. There are two strategies to help with every subject:

1. Hands-On Practice

You will never fully master a concept through reading about it. You learn the concept through reading, but there is a big difference between learning something and mastering it.

The basics of hands-on practice for any subject are to come up with an applicable problem and solve it. Then come up with another problem and solve it too. Here are a few ideas, by subject, of how you might practice:

literature – Read a book or short story and write an analysis of whatever focus you are working on.

computer science – Come up with a problem and solve it with real code.

graphic design – Imagine a client asked you to design something, and create 3 different solutions for them.

math – Pick an equation, make up some starting numbers, and solve it.

science – Define a hypothesis, create a simple experiment, get in the lab and execute it!

2. Explain Or Teach It To Someone Else

Want to be certain you have mastered and fully understand a concept? Teach it to someone else.

As a teacher myself, I can tell you there have been plenty of concepts I thought I knew really well until I tried explaining them to someone else. You need a thorough understanding yourself before you can help someone else understand it.

Enlist the help of a friend or family member and try to explain a major concept in a few minutes. If you struggle, make note of the sticky spots. They are exactly what you need to work on next.

If you have no problem explaining it and your friend understood everything, mark it off your list and move on to the next concept.

I hope this quick strategy helps you dig out of confusion and take the right action in order to study faster and retain more.

While the others were talking or gaming or both, Tomari was at a desk in the main living area, fretting over an old math textbook. “This not only isn’t the correct solution, but this equation shouldn’t even be possible. The notation makes no sense!”

“It’s pretty wild how this made it to print without anyone realizing,” Aria agreed, sat across from her. Despite not being an official member of Liella, or even a Yuigaoka student, she had become a fixture at these hangouts, on account of her budding relationship with Tomari.

“I want to figure out what this equation was meant to look like. Perhaps I could work backwards, and once I find the right solution, I can send the publisher a strongly worded revision request.”

“I’m sure there are more recent editions of this book, it was probably fixed,” Aria said with a smile. She had become quite familiar with Tomari’s propensity to fixate on things like this. She was such a problem solver, and Aria found it charming. “But if you’d like, then we will work backwards, find the right solution, and I’ll even coauthor the strongly worded revision request.”

Tomari looked up to see Aria adjusting her glasses and smiling confidently. Tomari smiled back. “Agreed. However, somehow I doubt your ability to strongly word anything. You’re just so kind.”

Aria frowned. “Hey, I can be stern.” She leaned back and crossed her arms. “Just yesterday I told off a rude customer.”

“Oh? I wish I had seen that,” Tomari winked at her. “An assertive Aria-chan, what a lovely thing to imagine.”

Aria blushed and smiled. “I’m sure it wasn’t that impressive.”

“You deflect doubt and praise in equal measure. Your dedication to self determination is so admirable.”

“I…” Aria pondered that for a moment, then shook her head and pouted. “I…don’t know what to say to that.”

“And you’re so honest~” Tomari said, resting her chin in her hand.

Aria’s face got red, suddenly determined to counter Tomari’s flirting. “Well… Given how confident and smart you are, I think you’re the one who deserves praise, so… There.”

Tomari looked back down at the book and frowned. “Ah, now you’re changing the subject. Very shrewd. You’re so astute, my dear.”

Aria drummed her hands on the desk. “Quit it! It’s like you’re parrying my attacks.”

Tomari giggled, only to gasp softly and grimace when she glanced over to see a familiar pink phone on a selfie stick pointed towards them from the couch. “Sister Dearest…”

“Ignore me! Just keep doing what you’re doing,” Natsumi insisted, with Kanon and Mei both looking over and grinning at them.

Aria hid her face in her hands. “She’s definitely posting that online, isn’t she��?”

Solver of Problems

Today we just got back from picking up The Wife’s™️ new IPhone 16 Pro. Luckily I was there to remember how to access the Verizon account. Apparently she could recall our old zip code. What should have taken 20-30 minutes took 60. Nonetheless, crisis averted.

Last Wednesday I have a convo with my sister. Our father’s old Saturn SUV has a frame problem and could crack at any minute. She didn’t know what to do, as he has blown all his money. I don’t have any to give them/ him, but suggested they buy a car in their name and let him use it until he dies, then their youngest (and jobless) son could have it.

I also learned they sold my sister’s car to their oldest (who does have a job) son. However, they never signed over the title to him. So I know my father gave them $40K and now their son gave them $8K, all of which is gone.

My BIL recently got 3 years of disability pay from the state of Michigan, so yeah - they have money. But I digress…

Yesterday my sister thanked me for the idea. Today, my father called The Wife™️ (because he never knows where I am)…all excited about the new to him car he has, a Toyota something or other.

I’m shocked they gave me credit for the idea. I’m shocked they went through with it. I’m shocked he called.

Not shocked he called The Wife™️. Not shocked that everyone else couldn’t think of this idea. Also not shocked he’s having issues with the technology. Plus he hasn’t even figured out how to text me a picture of it. (80 years old, his phone is nothing but games).

It’s simple math: we have 2 licensed drivers and 1 car. They have 5 licensed drivers and at the time only 2 cars…now 3.

My sister just texted The Wife™️ and again thanked me for giving her the idea.

Yes! That fact never made sense to me either. For example, if Gale, a human who's clearly in his 30s, managed to become an Arch-Wizard, then what's stopping elves with lifespans ten times his own.

Theory A

Humans are born with an invisible xp multipler. Since at the end of the day, the dnd universe functions by game rules, and characters do, in fact, "level up," but they're not aware of it themselves.

To make up for their short life spans, all short lived races either are born with an xp multipler that lets them achieve more faster, or elves are born with a xp multipler that has a negative penalty.

So if a human by themselves has a multipler of 100% per year of magic study, then elves would have a 10% multipler. While dragonborns would have 110%. Kenku and Goblins get a 140% etc.

What about immortal creatures? Simple, they start with 100% or whatever their base race multipler is and suffer a decay penalty the more years they live past their age. But i feel like there should be a cap, maybe it can never get less than 1%.

Theory B

All races have the same xp multipler, but elves tend to fuck around doing nothing all day more. Maybe study one page for week and call it a day. It's not on purpose but their perception of time is really altered, what feels like hours to us might be seconds for them.

So if an elf really wants to, they can study all their life and actually become one of the most powerful arch-wizards. But they just...don't for some reason. Maybe it's the way Corellon made them, maybe being a wizard is scoffed at amogst their ranks because they are all born with inherited magic and the idea of learning and borrowing magic from the weave is insulting. Like how in drow society, most wizards are male, because if a women can study or do magic then it's considered much better to become a priestess of Lolth. Being a wizard is an insult.

Theory C

Because humans are speical and I said so :"((((

Because what if they really are? What if elves have been genuinely trying their best to become wizards and study all their life but for some reason, it's just not enough, yk. Maybe the weave prefers the short-lived, maybe Mystra prefers the humankind. Who knows.

Magic is Not like math, at least not like non-quantum math bc god knows that shit is the closest we will ever get to actual magic. People have been trying to marry it with actual physics and our normal math for years to no avail.

That's why kids are so much better at magic, you see. Magic is limited by your own brain, your own creativity and how you bend the rules.

What are humans known for? Their endless potential and creativity. What are they best at? Breaking the rules.

Maybe the human brain just clicks with magic. Our entire evolution of becoming really good problem solvers. Maybe solving puzzles for fun is a unique experience for humans which is why most of them end up falling in love with magic.

Maybe even that elvish word has a perverted meaning that flies over your head when you happily answer to it and think they're warming up to you.

They try to become really close, inviting you to their hangouts, inappropriate parties, and everything that a professor shouldn't be attending. They hand you drinks and watch you swallow them down, coaxing you into showing them your cute human games, truth or dare it was called right?

One student dares you to sit on their lap, they coo and run their fingers on your body. Another skips turns to dare you to take your blazer off, why are you wearing formal clothes here?
