Black History teaches being “Bold & Cold”

Ever so often I feel the weight of intimidation from others who disapprove-of my outspokenness, as an “artivist” and in my personal life. A kind of silent coercion trying to discredit or silence due critiques to ideas, systems, institutions or basic unacceptable behaviors and assault on dignity. It also doesn’t help that I’ve always been very private and quiet...that-I’ve found, can perceived as weakness and is a liability.

When it comes down to it my home life was both “privileged” and a mix of traumas and academic/professional overachievement. But I was always* raised to be a leader. Between my parents, their education, 1st generation immigrant mentality (lol) and my academic & artistic background-there was no way I could end up becoming meek and mild. 

I often remind myself of the GREATNESS of BLACKNESS that I’ve been around, exposed to & taught by. And whenever I feel the weight of intimidation trying to shut me up or put me down...especially given Trump era politics, #GeorgeFloyd and #BlackAtheist activism...I have learned to remind myself of who and what I come from. It reaffirms me to be BOLD & COLD in my analysis, my speech and my sense of direction. This is my affirmation. May it help and affirm you too, if it be so.
