I just rewatched the s5 episode of TCW, “A Sunny Day In The Void” and remembered why I like it so much and why it’s surprising to me that I have never seen anyone talk about it. (It’s the second episode of the D-squad arc which everyone remembers because of clone commando Gregor in the third episode of the arc.)
“A Sunny Day In The Void” is such a harsh departure from the chaos and politics standard to TCW because it’s intentionally got so little of anything in it. It lacks a visually interesting set, any familiar Jedi or clone characters, any immediate Separatist threat, and has a very simple plot. It’s just Colonel Meebur Gascon, WAC-47, R2-D2, and the other 3 astromechs of D-squad trying to get off planet Abafar, a planet that’s just one hard, flat, and bright surface with no visible sun in the sky. In other words, Abafar is probably one of the most dangerous planets in Star Wars because it’s so easy to get lost there. And I think what makes this episode so interesting to me is that Colonel Gascon is so caught up in his own ego and self believed ability to lead, this impossible obstacle drives him crazy. The only one of them to get caught up in the colonel’s bs is WAC, who has an ego and desire to lead of rivaling size. Meanwhile, R2-D2 stands as the MVP as usual for the episode taking ~5 seconds to have solved the scenario and leading the remaining 3 droids of D-squad to a way off the planet. With 0 environmental input, R2 just decides to head straight until they run into something useful. Colonel Gascon and WAC have to wander around, yelling at each other, then, be nearly trampled by flightless birds to come to their senses and catch up with R2.
There are so many absurd things about this episode that make it work so well, especially WAC who has such standout lines like “He should’ve jumped,” and “I didn’t think giving up was a part of your programming.” Seriously the whole D-squad arc deserves a rewatch from you, but this episode does in particular, simply because it stands out from the rest of TCW in terms of setting and tone yet still retaining the same level of good quality characteristic to the show.

For the trivia thing:
What is the name of the space station featured in the Clone Wars arc that introduces Gregor?
For extra points, which don't really exist, what was the name of the Venator stolen by the Separatists in that same arc?
You really had to pick one of like three areas of Star Wars that I just do not care about huh?
Can i get any points if i just say Meebur Gascon?

Star Wars Alien Species - Zilkin
At around 20 BBY, the commanding officer of D-Squad, Meebur Gascon, was a member of this species. He was a strategic colonel and had served the Galactic Republic since the First Battle of Geonosis.
Later in the war, Gascon was assigned a squad of droids and was part of a secret mission to steal an Encryption module from the Separatists.
Tumblr media
This eventually led to him encountering a field of comets, getting stranded on the strange world of Abafar, discovering and returning the memory of a Clone CC-5576-39 going by the name of Gregor, and being part of the destruction of a hijacked Venator-class Star Destroyer full of Rhydonium over Carida.
Their short lifespans cause Zilkins to be one of the fastest learners in the galaxy, capable of learning in weeks what takes other Species months. However, their short statures causes many Zilkins to develop inferiority complexes, which in turn creates more blusterful boasting. This boasting leads to a poor reputation among other, which heightens the Zilkin's inferiority, creating a horrific cycle of depression.
Tumblr media
Due to this cycle, Zilkins hold mentaps and other psychiatrists to an unusually high level of respect, and they truly treasure those friends that they do make. Zilkins' sharp minds and learning ability makes them capable slicers and computer specialists. Many often join governmental militaries, becoming well-known for their tactical prowess.
Zilkins are tiny, about 1.1 feet, green beings with prominent eyes stalk. Their skin is often molted, usually with blue-gray speckles. Additionally, Zilkins have large bulbs of skin underneath their chin that puff out slightly when they speak.
Tumblr media
They were based on a drawing of an early version of Jar Jar Binks, by Terryl Whitlatch.
Zilkin age at the following stages:
0 - 1 Child
2 - 3 Young Adult
4 - 6 Adult
7 - 9 Middle Age
10 - 11 Old
Examples of Names: Meebur Gascon, Fasca Tiradé.
Languages: All Zilkins speak Zilkin, a guttural tongue filled with croaks. Most Zilkins are also fluent in Basic within their first years of life.

The fact that The D-Squad arc from Season 5 of The Clone Wars is George Lucas’s favorite story arc from the show makes me so happy. Never change, George.

“You...you terminated BZ.”
“It’s not my fault he fried his circuitry! I didn’t tell that nitwit to attack the access panel.”
No, you just had his ability to form memories removed. Which I don’t know, might have impacted his critical thinking ability?
