Broly, the Legendary Super Saiyan: A Brief Dragon Ball Z Analysis

Yo, it's me again. So I'm still on a break from my Drakengard analyses, which I haven't forgotten about! Those require a lot of research and time, so I'm keeping them on the back burner for now. But instead, I'm here with a pretty unexpected analysis. I've never talked about Dragon Ball Z on my blog before, so this'll be the first time. Today I wanted to talk about Broly from the original Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan movie. The reboot was a fantastic movie and they did a great job at making him more human. I may very well do another analysis on the new Broly one day.

I wanted to give my take on Broly's character from the original movie, since the movie itself doesn't even attempt to. Let me preface this by saying that this is just my opinion based on the character's backstory and behavior. I'm certain someone will disagree, which is fine. Do let me know your thoughts and let me know if I get something wrong. SPOILERS AHEAD: READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!

The Start of Broly and Paragus

So, let's talk about it. By now, everyone and their mother has already criticized Broly's original backstory, and for good reason! It's literally the worst backstory I've ever seen, so fans are right to dislike it. Lemme explain his backstory briefly: when Broly and Goku were born, Broly had an abnormally high power level of 10,000. King Vegeta felt ashamed that his power level exceeded that of his own son, so he sought to have Broly and Paragus (Broly's father) executed. I don't know why he would try to kill him and not just make use of him later on, but okay. So Paragus and Broly are attacked and left out to die. That also happened to be the same day that Frieza destroyed Planet Vegeta, and Broly managed to get them both to safety. Paragus wants revenge on Vegeta (understandably), but Broly wants revenge on Goku for disturbing him with his crying when they were newborns.

My take on this: All of that makes sense except for Broly's... strange fixation on Goku. This heavily implies that he had a high level of sentience as a newborn; to be able to acknowledge that another newborn is crying near him and remembers this newborn well into adulthood. As humans, we don't gain that level of self-awareness until age 4 or 5. We see this again when he saves himself and Paragus. Although I don't think he knows exactly what's happening, I believe he is aware that they are in danger, and he sorta goes into fight or flight mode. So by that logic, would he not remember that King Vegeta nearly stabbed him to death? He was able to recognize Goku's face and name as an adult, so would he not recognize that Vegeta looks exactly like his father? The more I think about it, the more it doesn't make sense. Anyways though, let's move on.

The Life of Broly and Paragus

It goes without saying that Broly and Paragus' lives have never been easy. Broly has always had this unfathomable amount of power inside of him that he can't control. He's a loose cannon, to put it mildly. And this overwhelms Paragus. Rather than Paragus training him to hone this power, he chooses to use a mind control device as a quick means of "calming" Broly when his temper gets out of line. What lesson does this teach Broly? It teaches him that his anger is unacceptable; that his emotions are wrong. And it also forces Broly to be completely dependent on Paragus, stunting his maturation and effectively making him a man-child. Even though Broly is the same age as Goku (mid to late 30's is my guess), he never leaves his father's side for very long and only speaks when spoken to. This is such an abusive parent-child relationship.

Even when Broly is first introduced, he appears docile and unassuming. When he speaks, his voice is devoid of any emotion, with a lack of emotional facial expressions to boot. He's been forced to suppress his emotions for years because he will be punished for doing so. No doubt that this may have caused some deep-seated resentment. But alas, his strange hatred for Goku made him snap. The device broke and there was nothing to hold back his rage. What happens when a child who has been raised by a controlling parent gains freedom? They lose control. He lost control. It is the first time in his life that he actually has autonomy. The dam had been broken, and all of his pent-up rage and emotions came flooding out, and nobody could stop it. Paragus' lack of trust and fear of his own son brought about the very fate that he had hoped to avoid. It was a disaster waiting to happen, and boy did it.

Aside from completely wrecking the shit of our main heroes, he also finds and kills Paragus as he attempts to flee; he crushes him inside the space pod and hurls it toward the nearest planet. I believe that deep down, Broly developed feelings of hatred and resentment towards Paragus for all the years of abuse he suffered. And when he snaps, it's like "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde." The seemingly harmless Broly is no more, but is instead replaced by a savage, ruthless and cold-hearted killer. Or in other words, evil. It's for the best that he was put down by Goku. Who knows how much more destruction he would've caused had he still been alive? Let's not forget that he decimated an entire galaxy at the very start of the movie.

Now, I sympathize with both Paragus and Broly at times. I understand that they both had incredibly difficult lives. Between being wrongfully mistreated by King Vegeta, left out to die after almost being killed, losing his entire home planet in a matter of minutes, and having to raise a son whose power level is beyond the scale of anything that he's ever dealt with, it makes sense that he would turn out this way. And then here we have Broly, a person that was raised by a toxic, controlling parent who never let him express his emotions or act independently. Their story is one of tragedy. It doesn't justify either of their actions. It's just an explanation. I could talk more about how Saiyans are raised in families devoid of love and affection, but that's another analysis for another time. But hey, that's just my two cents.

“W-Where am I?” Y/n asked as Logan finally played her down his bed. The layout on the room scared her, because it was similar to her own layout, just more things she’d been wanting to get that she has noted in her notebook.

“Home, princess — Gotta lay low for a couple of days though, after that stunt you pulled,” the man had glanced back at y/n as he went through his drawer that was full of clothes y/n would definitely wear, and some clothes that she noticed him missing throughout the months.

“Logan-“ y/n was scared at how much work he put in for her. He was a grade a stalker, and the worst one at that. She wouldn’t be able to fight him off. No one could, and he knew that.

“C’mere, princess,” the man said after finding a nightgown for her to wear for the night. “D-Don’t come near me!” She shouted, but it sounded so pathetic. She knew that once he laughed and continued walking towards her.

“N-No,” Logan pulled on y/n’s ankles until she was on the end of the bed. “You needa be comfortable around here, Bub. Can’t have my princess worried, stressed or anything. Not one issue,” the man said like he hadn’t kidnapped her.

Y/n could hear the sirens outside of the apartment, making her think he probably lived close to the bar, and he did.

He worked hard to earn money for his own apartment. He didn’t need to stay with the x men or anyone else for that matter. He needed his own place to have y/n in.

“Stop it, let go of me!” She yelled at the man as she kicked and swung, but the man eventually got her clothes off. Every last fabric.

“Don’t fuckin’ piss me off, y/n. I’m just gettin’ you ready for bed,” the man tried being calm. He didn’t want to hurt y/n, but she’s leaving him no choice just about.

“N-No! I wanna go home!” She yelled as she finally got loose from his grip somehow. It wasn’t long before his hand wrapped around her arm, but she was read.

The young woman had grabbed a lamp that seemed brand new and untouched. She raised it and broke it across the man’s face.

She soon regretted it as the man turned his head back to her with a terrifying look as his the cut in his cheek healed back in her face.

“You’re in for you fuckin’ bitch,” Logan cusssed before he lunged at the girl, two hands wrapping around her neck as he slammed her against the wall. The wind was knocked out of her.

Y/n cursed herself out in her mind, unlucky that she was completely naked and he was only in his boxers. If she had played along, maybe she could’ve snuck out. Or maybe she’d just stay. He’d come for her again, anyhow. She was fucked either way.

“Wanted to treat you like my little princess, but sometimes pretty girls like you needa be stooped down to a slut,”

Logan lifted the girl up and threw her from the wall to the bed. She flew across the room, shocked when she hit the mattress, but before she could process the fact he threw her like a baseball, the man lunged over her.

Logan waisted no time bite at y/n’s neck. She cried in pain, but she knew she was fucked when her head became light from the instant rush of lust.

“Mhm,” the man growled in her neck as he pulled his boxers down. Y/n pushed at the man’s thighs, begging for him to let her go, or maybe even take it easy on her, but he didn’t want to listen.

“Whores don’t get what they want,” the man whispered in the girls ear like some game, before he plunged into her, stretching her in an instant and violating her walls.

The girl cried loudly, feeling him deeper than when he fucked her over the bar counter. This man was a an animal, a fucking beast the way he bullied through her.

“Nah uh, you shut the fuck up! Fuckin’ callin’ the police on me and breaking lamps over my fuckin’ head. You’ve gotten on my last nerve tonight, y/n. Last fuckin’ nerve,” Logan’s hips snapped hard.

“P-Please, Logan — I-I’m sorry,” she cried out, regretting it all. She knew the cops were going to be no help, she knew that damn lamp wouldn’t do shit to Logan, and she knew she was so close to cumming dumb around his cock.

“Oh, really, baby? Well, you’re gonna have to show me how much you’re sorry to deal with me tonight,” Logan gave y/n a chance, but she barely wanted to take it, but she couldn’t lie anymore.

All the crying, all the trying to get away — It made no sense when the young woman knew she was going to fall apart on the man.

Her mind was forced to forget every red flag about him. The way he fucked into her, made her clueless. She couldn’t understand how dangerous he was, knowing he fucked like this. She couldn’t deny how much she loved being used by an animal.

“Gonna fill this cunt up, and give you another chance to relax tonight,” the man said through his teeth as he felt his cock twitch.

Logan was a mutant, and the downfalls of being a good person, is y/n forgetting all about that. Forgetting that the alcohol doesn’t blind him from beauty. Forgetting he’s capable being a bad guy. Forgetting he’s capable of breeding her until she can’t carry anymore.

“F-Fuuuck,” the man buried his face in her neck as his hips rolled, stroking against the right spot, but she couldn’t react. She felt unconscious, but she was still there. She was high off of his cock.

Sucheon will not text under any circumstance. His pride and hurt won't let him, and also probably blocked your contact the moment things went sour. Suppresses everything- out of sight out of mind. He will agonize over it sometimes, like maybe asking why it ended the way it did, or a scathing remark, but in the end, he never will.

Duke? Don't make him laugh. Once you're done, you're done. Contact blocked, messages deleted, and you're all but non-existent in his head. Your house could be burning down, he'd hear there's a hit out for you, he's not texting you.

Jiwoo, the poor thing, is absolutely texting you back. Unless if it ended absolutely horrifically (like trying to murder him), beyond a romantic partner, he'd still want you to be by his side and would go to great lengths to keep it that way. Would be heartbroken if you stopped keeping in touch, actually.

Wooin won't respond at first over text. However, if you keep texting him, he'll eventually show up in person to confront you and talk to you face to face.

Jisuk is fighting literal demons not to text you. He has a whole album on his phone filled with memes and photos he wants to send to you, but he can't because that shit's embarrassing. He does give in pretty quickly though; especially if you text first.

Ian is likely the one to text first. Either does it because he's a.) bored and doing it for the plot or b.) misses you so bad he has no idea what to do with himself. Will text you a lot, but plays the games and responds only after leaving you on delivered for a whole day.

Asher is similar to Ian and Jisuk, but I can see him getting attached pretty easily, and doesn't text you just to fuck around. Misses you and wants to text you back, but his pride and hurt will override everything and likely won't end up texting them back.

Gahin can only last about 24 hours after seeing their ex's text before going ham in the responses. He's sending paragraph after paragraph, fluctuating between cussing them out for fumbling the best option they had, and demanding answers for why it ended the way they did. Very much a stream of consciousness and has shit to say.

Alright, dropping some lore for the Inkling daughter I gave to SMG4

WARNING: this is long AF and very quickly put together, so I might change some stuff

Anyway, presenting the...

SUPER MEME INKLING AU

In this AU Meggy and Desti both die on Anime Island. The machine doesn’t change Meggy into a human, but kills her by draining her.

Four is shocked and Mario is depressed, as well as the rest of the crew. Axol feels responsible, and the kingdoms, especially Inkopolis, is once again divided, harsh mentality against anime lovers back in full force.

Axol does not want Meggy to be forgotten, and so tries to train and reform the squad to win the Splatfest and honor her memory, alongside the crew. They win and dedicate that victory to her, asking for a statue in her honor and in honor of Desti too, who helped in freeing all the kidnapped inklings and octolings on Anime Island.

The rest of the arcs mostly follows the same line of storytelling, with a few changes here and there given the absence of Meggy.

Genesis follows the same length, with Axol getting possessed and instead being freed by Melony and staying alive.

Scarred, he decides to take a break from it all, to regain his mental stability, and goes to Sunset Paradise instead of Meggy (the events of that series happen afterwards in the AU instead of during the Genesis Arc).

Melony decides to train anyways, sad and missing Axol and feeling guilty over the fact that he still ended up being broken instead of bringing him back all in one piece. Niles still possesses her and uses her vulnerability to achieve her god form. Without Axol’s guidance, she’s easily manipulated.

Once Axol is back for her graduation and learns of the event, he instantly helps her feel better, and the two actually start their relationship, as she becomes his art student as well.

Four and Three bond in Revelations given the heavy loss they both suffer: Four with Meggy, Three with Terrance.

The two also bond more with Mario, who took it the hardest.

The Lawsuit Arc has Three be the replacement for Meggy, and the two Meme Guardians try to save themselves from Nintendo thanks to their teamwork.

They get closer and closer earlier in the arc.

IGBP happens the same but without Meggy, and Three doesn’t get sucked in the mirror, but saved at the last second by Mario. His face is half mutilated on his right side because of the effects of the almost possession of the flesh creature that actually possessed him in the movie.

Four is also scarred on the right side, his face sometimes paling and freezing mid talking, as if it goes on standby.

It takes Three and Mario to help him reconnect his train of thoughts.

Same happens to Three with his scar, sometimes his lip twitches and spasms.

After, Four gets the RV.

Suddenly, one night as he is trying to sleep, he is awoken by a painful cry outside the caravan. There he finds an infant inkling crying mostly in pain because of the rain sometimes hitting her face.

Immediately he takes her in, and panics because he is NOT a stable man right now both mentally and financially, how the hell is he supposed to take of a baby-

But once she smiles it’s over and decides to adopt her.

Meggy is then shown to Mario, who immediately freezes and softens and decides to become the best uncle ever to her.

Everyone in the crew adores her and helps out to find a way to get the castle ready as fast as possible. Everything happens without Meggy, and the little inkling is either babysat by Axol and Melony or by the other members of the crew at random.

Western Spaghetti is wildly different.

Mario kept Meggy’s beanie in memory of her. One day it disappears, and it sends Mario into a crazy search with Tari and Four. Eventually they find it and Four realizes he is taking care of an inkling and also probably taking her away from her culture and people in the first place, and also struggling because he doesn’t know exactly how to raise her.

Tari can relate to this because she also always feels afraid of doing anything, being left out and missing stuff, so she wants to help give Four the right amount of comfort of trying this new thing and adventure, making him feel that he is not alone in raising her.

They are led to Wren’s house and see the commercial, giving Four the idea of searching for him to show his daughter the hero his friend Meggy loved so much, and maybe have some advice on how to take care of her and maybe help her out on being a champion if she so wants to.

Tari is against the idea, feeling it odd and just going overboard, believing Four doesn’t really have to do this for Meggy, and finding this situation just weird in general.

However, they depart anyway and get taken by Wren.

Four is the one being tortured. Seeing his little girl being taken away from him over and over, seeing his late friend Meggy alongside Desti, having Wren challenge him on what it takes to be a right father for his daughter, believing in the fact that he could take her away and be the next champion instead, training her in the simulation.

Tari helps Four out in defeating Wren.

And doesn’t easily forgive him, relating to him on having a whole perfect world where he could do whatever he wanted and recreating his career.

After that everything happens the same way and Meggy grows up to be a loving and caring daughter, full of energy and a tad bit insane, loving ink explosions and battles, but not interested in winning the Splatfest.

She loves memes but not anime, despite adoring her Uncle Axol and every single one of the crew that is revolved around the anime world (Saiko, Boopkins etc)

Her two fave people aside from Four though are Three and Mario, whom she calls Daddy-ho (given she wants him and her dad to date) and Uncle Red.

She gets along with Beeg SMG4 as well, causing chaos and mayhem whenever she can, and likes to hang out with Eggdog and draw with him.

Also adores cappuccinos with marshmallows, and her favorite weapon of choice are the ink bombs. She also loves street art and paints every wall of the castle if she wants to, arguing with Four about it sometimes.

Sometimes when you’re mindlessly scrolling through your phone, and he can’t help but boop your nose. He doesn’t know where this urge comes from, or why his affection manifests in that way, he just knows that he can’t help it. When you look up at him, a mix of confusion and infatuation written on your face, his heart burst inside his chest. You’re so cute, and he’s so lucky to have you, and as weird as his actions are, you appreciate that he can’t help but touch you sometimes. 

Even though he’s not the most hands-on or cuddliest person ever, he has his phases. Small moments where he takes you in his arms and won’t let go no matter what either of you are supposed to do. “let’s just stay like this for a moment” he whispers, nuzzling his head into the crook of your neck. You accept, and let your body relax into the warmth of his embrace. But he never lets go, and you have to drag yourself out of his embrace, ignoring his whines as you leave the room. 

When he talks about something he’s excited about, he can’t help but touch your arm as he speaks. He doesn’t even realize what he’s doing, it’s a reflex, an excited child thing. But you do, you realize what he’s doing. You can’t help but smile as you look into his eyes, infatuated by the beauty of them. You also don’t mind that he’s repeatedly hitting your arm in a way that you would otherwise find annoying. Right now, you’re just happy that he feels comfortable enough around you to let himself be so raw and genuine. 

Sometimes his schedule is so hectic that you don't see each other for days, but he always makes sure to send something to you. Sometimes it’s memes, other times it's his Spotify listening history, or even random pictures he took that day, but most of the time it’s a vocal note. He knows those are your favorite. He doesn’t say much in them, he just tells you about the few cool things he did, about that one song he listened to that reminded him of you, and, at the end of the note, right before cutting abruptly, he tells you that he misses you. 

 With time, you’ve come to realize that he has very deep and complicated feelings, he is just not the best at articulating them. Sometimes he will initiate conversations with you about a topic he has thought about for a while, and you're always impressed at how deep his thinking goes, at how elaborate his suppositions are. When you talk about it with other people is when you realize that you’re the only one privy to these thoughts. As expected from him, everything he lacks in words he makes up for in actions. 

The most precious memory you share with him is that one time he invited you to his studio. It was the first time he had you there, and you were excited and nervous at the same time. He showed you around, before letting you put on his headphones and scroll through the unfinished drafts he had recently been working on. Amongst them, was one with the sappiest lyrics you’ve ever heard, and when you started teasing him about it, he bashfully replied to you that this song was for you, because he was better at communicating his feelings for you through the music. Despite how aloof he can seem, he has no problem to admit to his feelings, whereas you still haven't told him you loved him yet...

A while back Instagram decided to make it impossible for US artists to manually opt out of allowing Meta AI to scrap their work. Currently the only way to opt out is to send Meta a *request*, in which you need to include proof that your art has already been scraped....and then I guess they get back to you on that.

Anyways, I was and kinda still am going through a self loathing problem when it comes to my art. This definitely didn't help, but it did give me the motivation to go looking into what's happening with ai and how to fight it. You can read those ramblings under the cut if you so wish.

So! If you have a computer that can run it, I highly recommend downloading Nightshade and Glaze. Glaze will protect your art style from being copied, but Nightshade is a POISON. If shading a single image, you can manually enter a tag for NS to "cloak". If shading in batches, Nightshade will generate a tag for each image after scanning them for recognizable images. It's a bit hit or miss sometimes, but the above images when run through NS would most likely be tagged as something like "cartoon" or "glasses" or "drawing". That way when they are scraped, the ai will be shown something that isn't a cartoon/glasses/drawing but is tagged as such, and that will alter what it generates when prompted with any of those words. Even if you aren't an artist, you can run anything from game screenshots to memes through it. Tags can also be character names like Mario, Sonic, etc.

YOU SHOULD ALSO NEVER EXPLICITLY SAY IF YOUR WORK IS SHADED OR NOT

Currently, AI devs are expecting to have completely run out of unscraped data by 2026, according to this article I found. Which means they have, and continue to, scrape everything you can find just by moseying through the internet. One of the ways that MetaAI came up with to possibly get more material, was to buy a publishing company so they could scrape all the available books under it's name.

AI cannot generate images meant to imitate art unless it has art it can steal. Protect your art, or just poison it for fun. Either we kill it or it starves.

I wish I did backgrounds more. It's not that I can't physically do them, I just don't often have the attention span or the vision for it. On the latter point, though, it's most just because I am so character-focused in terms of the message being conveyed through the subjects rather than a larger picture. Sometimes I write like this, too.

2. What would they do if the other woke in a manic state after a nightmare?

i'm going to imagine Raylan waking up after a night terror about nicaragua.

Tim usually wakes up first, slow and silent and still. he doesn't try to touch Raylan or make him wake up too. Tim just makes sure he's there for Raylan when Raylan wakes himself up. Tim doesn't try to mask his breathing or close his eyes as Raylan rouses himself out of bed. if it's real bad, Tim will get up and go sit across the room so Raylan doesn't accidentally hit him, but otherwise he'll just lay there and wait it out.

and he doesn't follow when Raylan bangs into the bathroom.

Tim knows about enemies that wait for you to close your eyes before attacking. he knows it's bullshit to try and cuddle it away. to remind Raylan it was all a dream. none of that helps.

Oh jfc Raylan, of course. Raylan our cowboy always has to be the HERO. He's definitely more outwardly protective of Tim in the traditional sense and demonstrates it through showy displays even though GUARD DOG Tim is more consistently protective and lowkey about it.

Raylan needs to be protected from others ... Tim needs to be protected from himself. Other people will harm Raylan if Tim doesn't step up, Tim will harm himself if Raylan doesn't take over.

Raylan doesn't hide his emotions. It's very apparent when he's upset both from the looks on his face and he vocalizes it. Tim has a bad habit of hiding his emotions and Raylan is usually too busy and wrapped up in his own shit. Either they're outright fighting about something right off the bat or Tim has swallowed his upset and Raylan doesn't have a clue. It can take ages for Raylan to realize something is off and has been for a while.

Raylan: ...you're pissed at me - you been pissed at me.

Tim: Have been for a while, thanks for noticing.

45. Can they fall asleep without the other?

yes, they can do it but they both drink more at night to compensate for the absence.

Tim gets too used to falling asleep with Raylan around and can have a hard time adjusting when they have to be apart for long periods. Sleeping alone makes Tim feel vulnerable. Because Raylan is a night owl and Tim is an early bird, Tim likes that when he falls asleep Raylan is still awake. he sleeps like shit without Raylan as he wake up periodically throughout the night.

Raylan just likes the company, likes knowing Tim is there for him to look at and touch whenever he wants, so misses it something fierce when Tim isn't there. He also hates making his own coffee in the morning and is horrible at getting himself up. Raylan chronically runs late without Tim in their bed and Raylan's sleep habits suffer big time. he'll start taking more naps, dozing off on the sofa in the evenings.

One Piece Live Action - OP Fan Review

So it's finally time.

We waited on bated breath and anticipation to see if Oda's masterwork could in fact translate to live action, much less Netflix live action. Titles such as Death Note and Cowboy Bebop have caused sincere fears that it would not go so well, but with Oda in the production there was hope, and now we see if it's rewarded.

Knowing that this is an adaptation and they were covering most of East Blue's saga in 8 episodes there will of course be differences. But whether or not they work remained to be seen, so let's talk about it.

Spoilers for One Piece, both Live Action and manga/anime because there will be overlap to discuss

First and foremost we will need to pour one out for those who didn't make the cut; Woop Slap, Ripper, Ritchie (referenced but not seen), Gaimon, Django (he had a poster but not a presence), the Usopp pirates, Johnny and Yosaku, Carne, that fly in Fullbody's soup, Pearl, Moocy, and most surprisingly Hachi. It's a shame to not see them (also 3 future-warlords in the audience of Roger's execution) but I can understand them...minus Hachi he's kinda an important connective piece in the long run. Also no Usopp Hammer or Usopp Rubber Band, the sacrilege!

So as far as adaptations go though this was really good. Opinions are of course subjective, so a lot of fans are welcome to say that Live Action has done arcs better than the manga/anime, but I'd say it's either as good or a little less, but that's nothing to be ashamed of. A lot of people who haven't watched or read One Piece get a nice introduction of almost the first 100 chapters/45 episodes, which contrary to the memes of 'yeah One Piece gets good at episode 629' should be enough to whet people's appetites to see if they wanna take the plunge.

Of course, change is scary and sometimes not accepted, so not all the changes made were ones I liked, at least as much as the original source. I kinda feel like we did a few characters dirty; Makino (no flirtatious chemistry with Shanks? come on), the Orange Town Mayor, Mohji, Chouchou (again, I get it, can't really get animals to act so easily), Fullbody, Gin, Krieg, Genzo, and Nojiko did have a bit more to do in the source material but often only got one scene or lacked the same spark they had. Also the amount of death was surprising, I get most of it but at the same time killing off Merry (and recontextualizing how the Going Merry was named by not having Merry be its creator even with the lore change that Syrup village makes ships) does kinda leave Kaya even more alone, in the original at least she had him and the Usopp pirates for company. While Buggy as a character is awaiting praise later down the line I will have to say that his role beyond episode 2 was a bit lackluster, he was never gonna help the crew for sure but it was weird for him to just saunter away from Arlong Park, I also feel like we could've better explained Devil Fruits and water's effect on DF users, because it is a very big misconception by those on the outside that Luffy simply loses his powers when hit by a splash of water, rather than his strength being sapped when more than half-submerged; rain, splashing waves, that doesn't effect DF users that way, and it's not like it's an off switch Luffy could still stretch while in water it's just harder to do so. It was also a shame not to have Shanks and Buggy's backstory shown. The CGI did have some rough moments too, I was not too much of a fan of how they did Kuro's pussyfooting (no you don't understand it's literally called the pussy foot technique) in episode 3, episode 4 was better, I felt that Luffy vs Arlong relied a bit too much on it too. Zoro's flashback was oddly placed in episode 4, given how it's more fitting as a build up to Zoro vs Mihawk, also felt like the context of Zoro losing to Kuina 2001 times in a row was sorely missed in that flashback. I will also have to admit that while the costuming is great, there is a very glaring case of it being very easy to spot the important characters from the crowd.

Some changes I was more than fine with, Alvida changing her call to most powerful makes sense since insulting her appearance wouldn't really go down too well, Zoro could've been a bit more mellow but he still played the edgy deadpan guy well...at least until Luffy eventually wears down his brain cells, and as cool as the Mr. 7 fight was it does not help debunk those 'minority hunter' memes. Changing Sham's gender worked pretty well too, the actress wore the look very well, and though people were a little let down that Benn Beckman is not super handsome I didn't have a problem with his look.

Of the changes I liked more it's probably that we saw more of Nami growing vulnerable to the crew, sure in turn we lost her fake-stabbing Usopp and grabbing a lit fuse but we got her bonding with Kaya and staunchly try to convince Zoro not to fight Mihawk - whereas in the anime/manga she had already ran off with the Merry - plus I feel like we got more friendship between her and Zoro at this stage, it's not that they didn't get along but I do feel like Zoro's dismissal in the live action is almost tied to feeling a little hurt by her betrayal. I enjoyed and was surprised with how much Garp we got, and how much he and Koby interacted with Luffy this early, since while we get the cover story of Koby-Meppo it's more it's own thing and we don't even learn of Garp's relation to Luffy until about 3 more sagas (sagas, not arcs, sagas), but it did help flesh out Koby's character more and his own character growth in parallel to Luffy. Think the change I was most approving of was confirming Kaya x Usopp, like she loves that liar so much so it was sweet to see a kiss in there, no romance my ass Oda, I also liked that they made it that Kuro was poisoning Kaya, since her original illness suddenly going away was a bit strange.

Every major character in this show translated very well to their characters in the source, even if they are a little different in some traits. Inaki as Luffy is a perfect fit, being equal parts charismatic, serious when necessary and aloof, he handled the big pressure that would've come with a character of Luffy's character in fantastic stride. The other crewmates were of course very well casted too, having wonderful chemistry with each other, as were their child counterparts, but I found myself most impressed by the villains; Morgan, Helmeppo and Kuro especially surprised me by how well they came across, Jeff Ward as Buggy was always gonna be a perfect fit in my mind too, given how much I saw of him in Agents of SHIELD. Arlong did take a bit of time to grow, but I can't deny he does the laugh perfectly. Side characters such as Kaya and Zeff also impressed me, having been given a bit more content to chew on in their stories, and Shanks did soothe my worries I had from the trailer by being jovial and true to character.

The biggest positive impression I got from One Piece was the sense of wonder and vibrancy, the settings were all wonderfully crafted with care and style fitting to Oda's vision, I particularly liked the added carnival entertainment stands in Arlong Park to better reflect its homage to Sabaody Park, the same can be said with costuming - referencing previous colour spreads - and motifs like the bounty poster introductions and the leitmotifs of characters like Buggy, Arlong and the Straw Hats, plus the instrumental of 'We Are' is wonderful. Most important is that the moments landed, especially Shanks giving the Straw Hat, the barrel scene, and Nami asking for help, but we also crafted some newer subtle moments, such as Luffy being drawn to the Merry and pitching to Kaya regarding it, and Zeff and Garp's conversation. Easter eggs were also hidden well enough to not be blatant to non-fans but rewarding to those who know.

So yeah, it was very much a huge success, one I hope will be translated in its positive reviews and viewership. If there's a second season I'd anticipate that we'd cover Loguetown and the Alabasta saga, but with that comes more castings I do not envy the team to find, because outside of campaigns for Jamie Lee-Curtis to play Kureha there are a ton of big and iconic players in those arcs that'll need perfect casting to pull off; Ace, Crocodile, Vivi, Bon Clay, and Tashigi (since you'll have to have a comparison with Kuina's actress) is tough enough but we're also gonna have to make the 'puppet or CGI' decision with Chopper and somehow cast the most beautiful woman on the planet to play Nico Robin. Then perhaps Season 4 (providing they do the Skypeia saga all in Season 3, only needing to cast one to three properly big players depending on whether they have Shanks meet a certain someone) they'll have to struggle with even more casting difficulties.

Still, if they're up for the challenge go ahead and do it, I'll be there for Season 2 if they're willing to make it.

Adrien let his head thunk on the table, "I know."

Jake leaned towards him, "Yeah, I actually got to talk to you about your thing. Cause it's starting to affect my whole deal."

Danny waved him off, "Later, we're helping Adrien deal with his mental breakdown right now."

"I'm not having a mental breakdown," Adrien mumbled into the wood.

"Buttercup, I think you need to have one." Randy said.

Adrien tilted to the side until he was laying more on Randy than the table, "I don't want to talk about my thing anymore. Let's talk about Danny and Jake's thing."

Jake threw his hands in the air, "It's Danny’s thing that's affecting me!"

"Look it's not the first time all of reality had to get rewritten so that everybody would forget my secret so I don't know why it's affecting you this time."

Now Jake looked like the one who should be having a mental breakdown. "I was talking about your self-appointed Title!"

"My what?"

"You heard the capitals in that too, right?" Randy whispered to Adrien, who just nodded his head.

"What do you mean reality got rewritten?! Danny did you BREAK REALITY?!?!?!"

"No! Vlad did! I fixed it! Can we go back to the titles thing cause that sounded kinda important. Like proper capitalization important."

"Danny I swear on my ancestors-"

"So like chapter titles or movie titles?" Randy asked.

Jake turned to stare at him incredulously and Randy could feel Adrien shaking from giggling.

He opened and closed his mouth a few times in response, before waving his hands in front of him like he was trying to ward off all of Randy's General personality. "Randy please, I can't deal with you and Danny at the same time."

"Hey!" Danny said in offense. Randy just nodded in understanding.

Jake groaned into his hands for a moment, before straightening up and pointing at Danny. "Phantom has been officially Titled as the Liminal Bridge. No one knows how that happened and are miffed about it. And now I have a bunch of restless spirits that keep bothering me because they somehow figured out I actually know you and they don't know how to reach you."

Danny looked confused, "No one has ever called me that. Why are you saying it like it's a big deal?"

"Because it is a big deal." Jake stressed. "In the magical community, things like that are big deals. I don't just call myself the American Dragon for fun. It's an official Title. And it comes with responsibilities only I can do, problems that only I have the authority to solve. These aren't things you can just give yourself either. It's usually done by someone with higher authority over you, it's passed down from previous holders, some very old and powerful mythical beings can bestow one on you, and sometimes the right magical artifact can if it's sentient and impressed enough. You can't just call yourself a bridge and be like "That's a thing that everybody has to call me now!"."

Danny was looking at him wide-eyed, "I uh….I mean that's kinda what happened?"

Jake's head hit the table with a 'thunk'.

I’m in my feels about Charles’ having a Seb helmet and also in my Maxiel feels because of a conversation with a friend so here is a thing.

Maxiel: The Helmet

Most of Daniel’s friends aren’t here and that’s ok. There’s a party waiting for him in 6 different countries and he plans on hitting them all like some kind of fan service retirement thing so no one worries too much.

But he’s looking forward to Christmas - where he plans on turning off his phone and forgetting about everyone and everything.

He’s currently staring at the Lance DTS meme that another acquaintance has sent him because they think it’s funny. “You love the sport but it just don’t love ya back.” Sure, Danny had made that joke himself, but he was allowed to do that. It hurt coming from other people.

There was no F1 fanfare for him either - the sport he bled for, the one that kept him from his family for two years, the one he’s missed birthdays and funerals and weddings and time for.

Of course, Seb was getting a proper fucking send-off. Daniel was getting a reserve seat and he knew he’d never see the inside of a car at lights out again unless something bad happened, and no matter what, he couldn’t wish that on anyone - not any of these guys.

It’s Charles’ helmet that breaks him though. The helmet for Seb. You love the sport and sometimes it just don’t love ya back.

And the worst part is he had told them all not to do anything. He was a reserve driver. He’d still be around. Don’t worry about making a big deal about it, I’ll be back.

He didn’t expect anyone to actually take him seriously…he expected something.

Danny is tired now, counting the hours until he can bolt. Ready to drink a bottle of wine on a flight and not have Michael glare at him passive aggressively.

Danny’s helmet isn’t special - the same design he’s had all season - because he didn’t want to remember this. But maybe he did and maybe he’s bitter and maybe he doesn’t deserve a full time seat ever and -

He’s tugged sideways suddenly and he nearly loses his balance but then Max is righting him with that gentle smile on his face that he gets for people he actually considers friends. Danny hadn’t seen it this week after everything, but there it is.

“Hiya, Maxy. What’s up?”

Max beams and whispers, “come with me.” And then he’s waving at people in the RBR garage as they walk past them and towards Max’s driver room.

Daniel feels like he should leave. Even if he has a contract with these guys that technically starts in two days - he’s in McLaren Orange and he sticks out, but Max doesn’t let go and they keep walking.

“I, of course, did not change anything. It is still gold, and my lion is the same as always, but -“ Max pulls Daniel through the door of his driver’s room and slams it shut behind him. Daniel has flashbacks of - well, not the time for that.

“Max, what?” Daniel asks, confused and a little tired.

“I know it is not your last race ever, but it felt important to me,” Max is still rambling - quick and nervous like he does when he’s unsure if he did something wrong, and then he picks up his helmet, the gold one with two stars on the back. “You will have a seat in 24, but I wanted to -“

Max turns the helmet around and taps on the place underneath the two gold stars. The number 3.

Max put a - a 3 on his helmet for Daniel.

For Daniel’s last race.

“I know things have been hard for us, since-“ Max waves a hand between them, and it’s met to encompass everything between them. “But you are still one of my best friends and you helped make me the driver I am today and -“

He shrugs and Daniel pulls the helmet from his hands with shaky fingers, placing it back down on the table.

“Thank you,” Daniel says, before he hugs Max, winding his arms around his waist and squeezing him close. “Thank you.”

Max puts his chin directly on top of Daniel’s head somehow and says, “Yes, well you are important to me. And I am glad you are coming home.”

Daniel squeezes Max tighter. Maybe he was right. Maybe he was coming home in more than one way.

PLOTS OR MEMES : as much as i appreciate the ease of memes, they're a hit or miss a lot of the time for me. i rarely post them much nowadays but i do still like to send them in for others! i feel a lot more comfy plotting something first, even if it's just the bare minimum cause i like the certainty of being on the same page and making sure we want to write the same ideas.

LONG OR SHORT REPLIES : both! i just write whatever i'm feeling at the moment really, sometimes that's something short and casual or more long and introspective.

alright... I guess the main pattern with me is either a dialogue opening that dumps the reader in the middle of the scene and sets the tone, so to speak. OR I am grossly overusing "it's..." hahaha. The sentence length varies WILDLY and I tend to go with using shorter openings for shorter fics and longer opening for longer fics. As someone who loves writing introspection, opening sentences don't come easy since I gotta try and not dump too much information at once (show, don't tell etc). I have a habit of sometimes writing fics in reverse (starting from scenes that come later and build back up) but having the first sentence and what could be potentially the last sentence helps me a lot. For example, with number 1 on the list the first sentence literally popped into my head the moment the idea took its form. Almost same with number 7 and 10.

overall I tend to overexplain A LOT and I always try to keep myself in check with this haha. openers are so important and gotta hit you right from the start.

ooooo as a music nerd i love this question and i apologize for how longwinded my answer is XD i don't do many songfics or much song-related writing [*shoves the title of two fights for freedom under the rug*] but i do have a ton of playlists and songs that make me think of specific characters or fics. to answer this question, i'll just pick one called "Fever Dream" by Dirt Poor Robins. specifically the part starting just after the 4:00 minute mark. the lyrics make me go INSANE with this idea for a dark/horror dq bros fic where doflamingo realizes that corazon is just a false identity and he can't do anything to get his brother back and it drives him even more insane. these lyrics make me crazy Now here comes the liar (lion) Clawing at your door Drunk on the blood of your brother And he's back for more (apparently the lyric is actually "lion" rather than "liar", but i hear "liar" so therefore i declare it is "liar" for the sake of my own brainrot) imagine a fic where rosinante is the one psychologically tormenting doflamingo!! unsure if i'll ever get around to writing it, but it'd probably have a similar vibe to blood gone sour.

i usually do a nightly prowl under the one piece fandom on ao3 and either filter by most recent fics with rosinante or bell-mere. otherwise i read recs that are bumped on discord servers, or stories friends write! i'm actually terrible at reading tho i don't read nearly enough. when i have free time, i usually use it to create.

10. How do you decide what to write?

excellent question. i make a list of priorities. sometimes it's disorganized lists on my phone, sometimes i use calendars. first and foremost are things with due dates, so zine work, or gifts for exchanges, birthdays or holidays. next i prioritize stories that are works in progress, but already posted on ao3. i hate having incomplete works posted on ao3, so i strive to get them wrapped up asap. then it's a rabid thunderdome of all my other wips and ideas all wrestling for victory for who gets to be created XD i'm constantly bursting with ideas i never get to work on, unfortunately.

37. Promote one of your own “deep cut” fics (an underrated one, or one that never got as much traction as you think it deserves!). What do you like about it?

i'm gonna go ahead and promote spitfire and ice because i busted my ass on this for the crackpair event and i was actually really happy with the result? i was assigned makino x kuzan, so i threw bell-mere in there too just to shake things up, and then i fell madly in love with bell-mere x makino and their flirty banter. it captured my heart in a way i was NOT expecting. i guess the tags aren't particularly interesting to most, so it's relatively unknown with only 4 kudos and 31 hits. but look at this!! “Hey, I’ve gotta ask you something.” She leaned over the counter once Makino settled herself and refilled the pitcher for the next round. “Would I still be wanted here…after hours?” With a tight smile, Makino rested her hands over the tabletop. “We’re closed for customers after hours. I need some time to tidy up the place.” “Right, right…” Pretty gray eyes wandered. “But in this situation, I wouldn’t be a customer.” With an amused chuckle, Makino folded her arms over her stomach. “What do you want me to say, Miss Bell-mère? Do you want me to welcome you to my private quarters upstairs?” That exposed chest filled with air. “I wouldn’t be against an invitation.” smh. well, at least i'm proud of it!

For House of Yandere... What if MC was a kid? Like, not in a pedo way, but the skeles are like 'this is my little sibling now'. How would things be different?

This ones actually very cute

Sans -Likes to annoy them more. With the kid he’s a lot more like classic Sans telling just all of the puns and will also come out of his room a lot more often. You and he will often bond over video games or memes and he always makes sure you're set up with all the latest gear. 

Papyrus -He’s not really any different. Yandere Papyrus is pretty much classic but with creepy undertones on the surface. He doesn’t really hide his personality as such it just comes through creepy undertones in his actions or words so he never really tries to keep it hidden no matter who he’s with. 

Red -Actually hides his real personality a lot. He makes sure he’s clean and doesn’t smell like blood and keeps his anger in check. Surprisingly he’s still pretty good with kids and knows how to cover his tracks so that he doesn’t scare them. He makes a pretty good big brother here. 

Edge -He has no idea how to act here. He decides not to change how he acts at all but will poison you less. He does forget that kids can be, well dumb, so his speech will sometimes fly over your head but he sort of acts as a defacto butler to you. He is very proper but will get you whatever you want. 

Blue -It’s actually a great time. He is less physically abusive to the point where it’s like he would never hit anyone. All his weird shifts get directed at other people and the two of you play a whole bunch of games together. He doesn’t hide his sinister side from you, you are just not the target anymore. 

Orange -How Orange treats Blue normally, so the teasing and the annoying pranks and what not he still does but he also is very protective of you. He is like the best, ideal, big brother trope. Playing games with you, getting you things but also taking just really good care of you both behind the scenes and center stage. 

Berry -His more mature and less wants to get stabbed. Think work Berry. He is very serious and direct but also really good at looking after you. He won’t spoil you but you aren’t missing anything from your life either. It’s pretty good. 

Syrup -Treat them like he treats Berry. He will spoil them rotten and they could literally stab him and he would think it was them being cute. Literally gets them whatever they want when they want and will let them get away with murder.
