The SDC has already been defeated, if it survived at all it will be Whitley or willow in charge, that plot thread HAS been ended but it’s all thanks to Salem more then anybody else, the mantle vs atlas conflict is arguable also dealt with by Salem because for the time being they’re now on even ground, as for the white fang, I’ve mad or clear that I highly question ghira’s competence for the job, and with sienna dead I don’t see anybody who can give me any sort of trust

So, here's the thing, the SDC hasn't been fully dealt with. The legacy of it still remains, there's a good chance there's still pockets of SDC buildings around in other kingdoms, and while the physical SDC is destroyed, thar doesn't mean the people who worked with them are dead and gone. The SDC can't be dealt with any further baser on the conditions that we see.

Mantle vs Atlas conflict is only going to grow worse because they're on even footing. Being on even footing isn't a fix for years of conflict between faunus, humans, the elite and those who are struggling to get by. The elite are going to continue to want what they had, tensions will rise, the issues between Atlas and Vacuo is only going to fan the flames. Just because Atlas was destroyed doesnt mean that issue is over. Thinking that Atlas is gone fixes an entire issue of hate, systematic failure, and prejudices overnight because now everyone is on equal footing is asinine. I dont know how to tell you politely that you are an idiot if that is what you think. That's not how it works. And chances are, we probably wont see much because that's not going to be the focus of the story. The focus of the story at this point will be getting people to work together, not fix all the issues. Mantle vs Atlas and subsequently Atlas vs Vacuo conflicts are probably going to get glossed over and will more than likely be a talking in show that while they're going to hate eachother for years, decades more, they still can try to work together.

As far a Ghira goes, I dont know how to help you on that one. Ghira is competent and the show gives us enough to prove that. If you cant see it, I cant help you. But here's the thing: if you're only going on his competency by the fact that the White Fang struggled to get anything done and ended up fracturing because of infighting, you're looking at the wrong person's competency. By that logic, Sienna is just as incompetent as Ghira because in the 5 years she was in charge, the only thing that changed was that the White Fang was hated and actively killing people. Again, racism isnt a thing that can be fixed overnight. Ghira's previous leadership style and Sienna's style are both commentaries, if poorly worded, on how solely peaceful organizations and organizations run by people who are tired of no progress being made arent enough to cut it. Protests work if people are listening, but that's not always the case. And violence only makes things worse. Adding fuel to the fire is only going to make a bigger fire. And if you had more trust in Sienna running the White Fang because she was getting progress with fear, that's a whole lot of issues you have that you need to work out because I cant help you. Overall, we'll have to wait to see how things go, but my point is this: Ghira is a competent leader given that he's leading Menagerie rather well, but finding the middle ground for leading a group and taking action is something he'll have to do differently from before.

TL;DR: Mantle vs Atlas conflict isnt over, the SDC situation is still there and hasnt been ended, you not having trust in Ghira is a you issue, and you're an idiot for thinking all of this is either fixed because Atlas is gone, or you have a lot of issues you need to work through if you cant see that Ghira is a decent leader and would rather trust someone like Sienna, who made things worse, over someone who is trying to make things better. Just because these subplots are going to start getting moved back doesnt mean they're done and over with. All it means is that as the story progresses, we'll see the girls tackle the main story as they go because their goal right now isnt to solve all the world's problems. Their goal right now is to stop Salem. And once they're done with that, then they can focus on the SDC and systemic racism, issues between the elite and those who are exploited. And chances are, that will be an afterward or an epilogue.

So... the Volume 9 Epilogue has gotten an extended epilogue sequence and...

What the actual FUCKING FUCK.

So just like before it starts where Volume 8 ended with everyone mourning the loss of many people who died cause the four little dumbasses and Harem wannabe knight and his team brought down all of Atlas. And thus reintroduces Sun and Neptune. Team CFVY and others.

So then cue a timeskip where we see things in Vacuo arent good as Atlesians and Vacuans are all trying to live together but at the same time shit has hit the fan literally between them. As the Vacuans do not appreciate them being here.

And oh right Mercury is there with Tyrian as they are joining forces with the Crown of Choice group from the stupid RWBY books or should I say forgettable.

To make matters even worse everyone is on edge with eachother as Nora steps up to be a leader while Ren is trying his hardest to keep everyone together to work as one. Oscar is trying his best to resist the merger between him and Ozpin and then after some yadda yadda talk and more refugee interactions.

An airship is in the distance and its from Vale and none other than Professor Port and Oobleckas they reveal that Vale has been destroyed by Salem.... and with no sign of Glynda Goodwitch.. it can be assumed she died.

(Literally my genuine reaction to hearing that info.)

You cant be serious. The writers fucked up one the most easiest cliche's ever. That me and many RWBY fans agreed that the final battle would take place in FUCKING VALE. And they decide to OFF-SCREEN ITS DESTRUCTION.

Like oh my fucking sweet baby rays on top of RIBS! This is garbage. Not only did they fuck up the most easiest CLICHE of all time the "It Ends Where It Began" but utterly fucked it up and placed it in a trash fire. Just Cause!!!

Whats even is the four dumbasses (RWBY) even fucked over Atlas by deriving Remnant of its ONLY SINGULAR MILITARY FORCE!

Thanks to Vale's destruction this would mean:

Millions of people may have died in Vale from Salem alone and those who managed to survive are suffering from starvation. Faunus Rights May Have Been Set Back By A THOUSAND STEPS because the White Fang attacked Vale and Beacon Academy.

The Humanitarian Crisis in Vacuo has went from bad to worse to "We're fucking cooked!" We've now been derived of a Glynda and Ozpin reunion.

SALEM NOW HAS GAINED ANOTHER RELIC!!

Anyways. It seems all hope is lost and then Raven reappears with none other than RWBY+ J as everything now is sparked up into a fire once more with everyone getting hyped up.

Like... okay. This is some ol' bullshit right here chief!!!! Like not only the writers just once again think its a good fucking decision to fuck over what many agreed to be Vale as the final battle location of RWBY or its final Volume. But the fact that Rooster Teeth couldn't even write a proper fucking ending to this show. So Basically to sum things up.

Hot Take: I wish Arrowfell had a mission where you worked with Robyn. It would have built up trust with Team RWBY and show why Yang and Blake trusted her. But nope. She's not even mentioned in the game. It just makes me feel like Yang and Blake's choice was a dumber risk then it already was since they where trusting a stranger that already didn't even know them. Yes, Robyn looked like a good person. But so did Cinder, Emerald, Mercury, and Lionhart. Ozpin didn't even tell them the whole truth (which, again, he had his reasons but still) You think after all that and agreeing to keep Ironwood out of the loop they would at least tell Ruby and the others they where taking a risk. But nope. It makes it feel like Yang and Blake don't trust the others, even if that wasn't the intention. I'm sorry for always bring this up, but that choice and what happened in Vol 8 still rubs me the wrong way, especially since they probably won't ever properly talk about it if/when RWBY comes back.

Actually, now that I think about it: Why wasn't it Ruby, Nora, or Ren telling Robyn about Amity. Robyn actually knows them, has talked with them, and can tell they mean well. Far as I remember, she's never met Yang and Blake before then. (Sorry, this got away from me. This topic just burns me up)

Arrowfell wouldn’t be able to have a Robyn mission because I’m pretty sure it takes place during the montage in V7, which is canonically before any of them interacted with Robyn.

I do wish Nora was the one to tell Robyn considering she was the one actively against Ironwood’s method. It also would’ve added more parallels and tension in the differences between her and Ren, who wanted to follow orders.

Honestly I do not fully believe what I am about to say at all, but if I think about it too long, it kinda feels like Robyn’s existence is a thing because RT still wanted the team to gain help from Atlas via an experienced adult with troops, but they made James evil.

It is weird narratively to leave from one place with a headmaster that turned foe, to go to the next destination and you gotta fight the headmaster again. Between that, and them being upset at Oz, you would think one of them would’ve said “Should we really be going to Shade?” There’s no positive experience going to an academy. 💀

Question about Bumbleby for you (ignore the earlier ask pls)

In one of my favorite analyses of the ship, you wrote:

“yang and blake admitting, finally, all of the things they see in each other, all of the things the other does to make them feel loved. you do what you say. you know what matters to you.”

How does Yang saying “You never gave up on people even when they hurt you. You never give up. You know what matters to you.” Relate to how Blake makes Yang feel loved? Not a dig at the ship, I just don’t get it, to me it seems just like things she sees in Blake.

to me, those lines ultimately come down to an acknowledgement of deep mutual trust. longer, more elaborate response incoming lmao

as far as "you never gave up on people, even when they hurt you. you never give up" is concerned, i think that's a reflection of how yang respects blake's ideological commitment to making the world better one person at a time. we've seen her give chances to people who have hurt her before, notably weiss and ilia. this actually goes for yang too, since blake chose to trust yang after the tournament fight where she broke mercury's leg and swore she didn't mean to. blake was triggered by that event because it reminded her of adam and how he would have violent outbursts (she says as much in different words), and so blake choosing to trust yang in that moment meant a lot. we literally see tears in yang's eyes over the fear that she might have lost blake's trust. she cares a whole about what blake thinks of her.

there's also the fact that blake came back after the fall of beacon - another iteration of "you never give up." blake left out of fear, but the most important thing to yang is that blake came back. they faced adam together. they protected each other even though they were scared. blake stood by yang's side and didn't give up. that sounds a whole like love to me.

i think "you know what matters to you" is an important inclusion for two big reasons, the first being related to the conflict between blake and yang in v7-8. it's about mutual respect. during the atlas arc, they figured out how to navigate the fact that they had different priorities, what with yang focusing on direct, concrete action by helping people in mantle and blake staying in atlas to help with the more abstract, ideological side of the situation. ultimately, they're able to reconcile their differences in viewpoints and come to an effective compromise in how to handle the situation. this is best exhibited in their conversation in the van before they go talk to robyn, which i frankly think is a massively underrated bumbleby scene.

essentially, their v7-8 conflict is a microcosmic counterpoint to the broader overarching political upheaval and eventual war in mantle and atlas. because yang and blake have that mutual respect for one another, they're able to express their different priorities - and acknowledge that one isn't necessarily more important than the other - and come to a consensus. yang knows she can trust her partner not to judge her unfairly if they have a difference of opinion.

i think there's also an angle here regarding blake's past with adam. she wasn't necessarily allowed to express her own beliefs for fear of retaliation. we've seen how he acts when anyone, especially blake, disagrees with him. when yang says "you know what matters to you" to blake, she's also acknowledging the fact that blake trusts her enough to express her beliefs confidently and honestly. the fact that blake sees yang as a safe person to talk to is a big deal for yang - she outright says she likes that blake has never been intimidated by her.

so, in conclusion, i think the lines you mentioned are an essential part of why yang trusts, loves, and feels so comfortable with blake. she's not just saying "i think it's cool that you have opinions," she's saying "thank you for telling me what you believe. i respect what you believe, and i know you respect what i believe. while we often agree on important things, i trust that we can navigate any differences that arise because we already have. and i know you'll be here to do that."

60 years ago... Faith 7 May 1963, USAF Major Mercury astronaut Leroy Gordon “Gordo” Cooper is seen at the top of Pad  14 at Cape Canaveral looking over his one-man “Faith-7″ Mercury-Atlas spacecraft. Gordon Cooper choose to wear  both his personal wrist watches, an Accutron Astronaut tuning fork GMT pilot watch  at his right wrist and an Omega Speedmaster CK2998-4 manual winding chronograph at his  left wrist. Both watches had a Jacoby Bender Champion steel mesh bracelet and Cooper compared  his timepieces during the 34 hours 3 minutes 30 seconds long mission (22 orbits). Both watches worked flawlessly. All Mercury astronauts received an Accutron wrist watch and at  least 8 of the 12 X-15 testpilots, among whom Neil Armstrong, wore an  Accutron GMT pilot watch during X-15 hypersonic research flights. Accutron watches were worn during Mercury-Atlas 9, Gemini III, Gemini V, STS-7 and STS-51D spaceflight  missions. Earlier, astronauts Donald Deke Slayton and Walter Wally Schirra were spotted wearing an Omega Speedmaster CK2998-4. However, Alan Shepard, acting backup for Gordo Cooper lobbyed for an extra MA-10 mission, during which he was going to wear an Accutron Astronaut GMT pilot watch as seen in numerous training photographs. You know what confusing in volume 8?

Why did team rwby and jnr trust emerald despite her actions in beacon especially with penny vs Pyrrha fight?

I would think JNR especially jaune would never trust her or even want her help.

I guess it bothers me because of how easy it was to trust despite everything.

Ruby should be furious with her. Yang too.

I think it's because of two massive mistakes the writing did.

Adding Salem's evil council of evil into the story - which instantly means Cinder's merry gang of misfits take a narrative backseat. Normally you'd have had those issues brought into the forefront already or characters noticing Emerald's gradual shift towards good. Ruby preferably should absolutely have time(AND SCREEN TIME) to be furious at Emerald due to what happened to Penny(hence before Atlas or not even doing the clickbait revival in the first place) and there's no way Yang WOULDN'T put at least some blame of what she went through onto what happened on Mercury fight (then again being framed in the middle of freaking Olympics should play a bigger role for her overall). By the time the actual redemption comes, you can have some pretty cool character inner conflicts go off as Weiss and Blake would be far more willing to give her a chance. And then you can have Emerald actually developing as a character and proving herself. But that's not in the show. As it stands there's just not enough screen time for that. Gotta spend time showing... Jaune being SAD and the threat of **Checks notes** Hastur?Hazbin? Hazel? You know the one with absolutely nonsensical motivations, as well as whatshisnsme mrhackerguy and the evil mentalhealthscare faunus. You know, the engrossing characters that matter and that one can truly care about according to MilesWBY.

Mashing Cinder/Salem and Ironwood/Atlas plots into one - it would make writers feel like having the mistrust of the Emerald plot here would be simply too much of the same thing (and make the other mistrust subplot even more flimsy) since the show is already deep into the mistrust subplot. Which is all the more sign that both Salem and Ironwood subplots shouldn't be happening at the same time. Not that you can't do Emerald mistrust and Ironwood issues both at the same time mind you - you absolutely can have both you just have to have proper build up and not mess up. Like questioning the difference between the situations and other stuff. Which is too much to ask out of RT I guess.

preliminary thoughts on v: dawn changes. subject to change as i chew on things more and/or if it turns out they wrote rwby beyond for me also.

i am, on reflection, raising my estimation on the length of the time skip to 6-8 months. this intuitively feels a little too long to me given the events shown, but amity gets converted into a battleship by the time the kids return and without valean support… hm.

on salem’s end: the point of making a beeline to beacon after atlas falls is in the short term anxiety as to what ozpin did to hide the crown, and in the longer term a gambit to get the sword out of the vault under shade without risking cinder’s life by sending her after the summer maiden, by leaving vacuo in a pressure cooker until a counteroffensive becomes necessary to hold the coalition together. she is hoping her opponents will risk trying to use the sword of destruction to take the fight to her.

that has always been her strategic aim here (and it’s what i think she’s doing in canon); to achieve it she needs vale to not be able to harry her flank while she digs in at beacon. i thought she might feel emboldened enough by having two relics to try turning the narrative against the coalition, meaning a diplomatic approach to neutralizing vale; razing vale is a different tactic to achieve the same end, informs the coalition she’s trying to force into a counteroffensive where she is, and gives them an emotional kick toward going on the offense by damaging morale whilst hardening resolve.

so: salem takes cinder straight to beacon to rendezvous with summer after the fall of atlas. she does not raze vale immediately upon arrival and in fact her presence in the ruins of beacon goes unnoticed for several weeks while she considers her next move. (cinder ditching and then skulking back happens within that span.) upon deciding that razing vale is her best bet, salem cracks the petrified wyvern out of its encasement and crosses the sound to flatten the city: mass panic draws grimm in droves, but most of the destruction is by salem’s power alone, with the wyvern patrolling to keep military aircraft off her back.

valean authorities immediately establish a safe zone in patch and begins to evacuate civilians there in an orderly and efficient manner, as we saw happen during the battle for beacon. this continues until shoals of marine grimm hit the island. knowing that the situation will deteriorate rapidly if patch’s meager defenses are overwhelmed, vale’s council stops the evacuation from vale and diverts all huntsmen and security personnel to hold the line while everyone on patch boards a ship to flee to vacuo. the majority of vale’s citizenry, left behind, in abject desperation, break through the sealed subway tunnels connecting vale to mountain glenn and take shelter in the undercity. glynda stays behind with them to seal off any existing breaches, then races to mistral to recruit help.

(here’s a post on my personal cooking thoughts on the possibility of mountain glenn foreshadowing a judgment call in the vein of sacrificing mantle to flee with atlas, with many people left behind by an aborted evacuation, if anyone’s interested in my line of reasoning regarding the civilian retreat.)

salem isn’t inclined to pointless massacres in any case and also stands to benefit from giving the vacuo coalition something to fight for worth the risk of wielding the sword: hundreds of thousands of survivors trapped under her thumb certainly does the trick. she makes arrangements to keep the local hordes out of the undercity, pretends not to notice the convoys sneaking in and out of the ruins of vale to gather supplies, and digs in to prepare for the counteroffensive.

meanwhile in vacuo, things are very, very bad; get worse when tyrian and mercury spring the asturias twins out of jail; and become downright apocalyptic once the refugee ship arrives from vale. popular support for the crown explodes. just holding the line against constant waves of grimm while the city barrels toward open civil war is nearly impossible. the first supply ships arriving from mistral, with a partially-repaired amity tower at the vanguard, eases the burden just enough for everyone to catch their breath and think about what they can do to prepare for salem’s advance, which they assume to be imminent.

then she doesn’t show up, for months. by the time team rwby and jaune make it home, construction to retrofit amity into a battleship is well underway and the coalition has managed to keep the situation with the crown from boiling over thanks to mistral’s assistance, but everyone is on edge. the thought of a counteroffensive hasn’t even crossed anyone’s mind yet, not when treading water feels this impossible. it feels like a matter of time before the situation explodes, and everyone’s sure that salem will swoop in the minute it does.

and then salem cracks the beacon vault :)
