My Hero Academia Class 1-A Music Headcanons

I've been catching up on the manga and thinking a lot about Jiro making a collaborative playlist to help her really connect with her classmates lately. Anyway,

Deku listens to soundtracks, like bombastic instrumentals from old superhero movies, and I like to think he enjoys some fantasy adventures too. He also likes J-rock, including some openings and endings from the anime. He's pretty open to recommendations no matter the genre, but generally prefers more mellow stuff to help him relax and study or just unwind after a long day, and tends to listen to the same small handful of his favourite songs anyway.

Bakugo listens to heavy metal, particularly extreme metal. He loves the blast beat drumming and harsh vocals. A lot of the lyrics are incomprehensible upon listening, but if you took the time to look some of them up, they'd give more insight to his more vulnerable side that he's too prideful to show. I also like the idea of him having a softer private playlist that nobody lives to speak of.

Ochako didn't really seek out new music on her own before high school and formed her taste mostly from the radio or recommendations from friends. She has a lot of fun going through the playlist and she's happy to listen to anything from bubbly J-pop to heavy metal. I think she'd be a big fan of Babymetal.

Iida also likes instrumentals for studying, but more classical, and with faster tempos that he can take his morning runs to as well, like allegro. Something like hardcore techno would be funny, maybe some sport anthems, and a few more mellow rock songs that he picked up from his brother for when he needs to cool down.

Todoroki was very isolated and had a really limited musical library before high school. He'd also just listen to some classical, traditional Japanese music, or whatever was on the radio, if anything at all. He later gravitates to edgy alternative rock, or anything with relatable lyrics that help him vent his emotions. I think he could use that.

Tokoyami likes goth, modern classical, anything mellow, dark and ethereal-sounding with poetic lyrics. His music is oddly calming and haunting at the same time. He doesn't like anything too loud or harsh-sounding, partially because it can excite Dark Shadow too much.

Tsuyu and Koda both listen to cozy movie soundtracks, like from Disney or Ghibli, folk, lo-fi, ambient nature sounds, anything grounding and soothing, or "cottagecore".

Momo listens to classical, traditional pop, or modern music with elements of either, like baroque/chamber pop.

Jiro is already confirmed to have a preference for rock, probably alternative rock, and punk. I'd like to think some metal as well, but she'll listen to almost any genre and has impeccable taste in everything. She was largely influenced by her parents, and maybe grandparents, so her library spans a few decades as well.

Mina and Toru both listen to upbeat J-pop, and I like to think one of them introduced the others to Little Glee Monster. Maybe some sappy or wistful love songs more in private. Mina also likes 70s pop, disco and hip-hop, the kind of music that just compells you to dance and sing at the top of your lungs, maybe some psychedelic space rock and sci-fi horror soundtracks.

Kirishima is also confirmed to like 80s rock, like Eikichi Yazawa and Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi. I'd also think he likes stuff from as far back as the 50/60s as well, since Yazawa is the closest thing to Elvis from Japan that I know of, and that he picks up some more modern hard rock and metal mostly from Bakugo and Tetsutetsu as well.

Kaminari and Mineta both listen to J-pop, mostly from female idols that they think are cute. Besides that, Kaminari likes pop rock/punk and a lot of English music, and seems to have formed a lot of his taste from whatever was popular on the radio or social media with the occasional unexpected banger. He also had a dubstep, Vocaloid and hyperpop phase.

Sero is almost as adventurous as Jiro with music. He has a talent for finding underrated indie bands, and songs in a few different languages as well.

Aoyama also listens to some classical, but more opera, as well as French pop, some disco and house that he can vogue to. It's mostly upbeat but there's some sad-sounding songs in there as well that the others can't translate.

Shoji doesn't have much to contribute, being a minimalist, but he generally likes the more mellow indie stuff. He can get overstimulated easily.

Sato and Ojiro both like upbeat stuff, and enjoy music more as background noise for training, or baking in Sato's case. I also think Sato would enjoy the girls' bubbly pop music, and Ojiro would like some traditional stuff. Idk man they're nothing characters

Yu Yu Hakusho x Oshi to Ame Special Collaboration at FavoteriA

The lollipop saga continues. Now, it's cute chibi chara!

This is the second collaboration of the candy brand "Oshi To Ame" (Ouchi de) and Yu Yu Hakusho. This time, it's a Yu Yu Hakusho Café that will take place at FavoteriA, in Ikebukuro. Drinks, Candies and Goods will be available. Some merch from the 1st collab are going to be sold at the cafeteria, and some merch from this event will also be sold on "Ouchi de" at a later date.

I'm impressed by the number of characters from this collab. Practically, the most important characters from all the seasons are here, even some members of the Reikai SDF. Eikichi on the top of Kuwabara's head is too cute.

P6 Idea : The Masculine Boy

I mentioned the roles of the athlete and the advisor before, but this time I’m going to talk about the character who have a strong image and are very masculine.

His appearance is that of a strong, blond European male. His personality has elements of Ryuji, Akihiko, Kanji and Eikichi from the previous games, especially the part where Eikichi likes music.

During battles, he uses a electric guitar as a melee weapon and a bazooka as a ranged weapon.

His Arcana is Hope derived from the Visconti-Sforza Tarot. Her persona combines the 3 elements of "rock music", "airplane" and "winged animal".

"You know what? I'm glad we met again. Next time, you're gonna join my band, got that? It's a promise; don't forget." "Chinyan, darling...remember me, no matter what. I love you..." "I shall always watch over you from within, and pray that you break through the unwritten laws of destiny and remember each other...Farewell." Farewell.  That was such a finite word, Tatsuya thought as he watched his friends leave one by one through the portal connecting the new world to the old, into the new timeline they had created. With each tearful goodbye, each back turned on him, he could only stare silently while they disappeared into the void, the memories reclaimed after years apart melting away in exchange for a hopeful future where their big sister figured lived once more.  But was that not such a steep price to pay? They had only just found each other again. Saving Jun from the clutches of a demented god; clearing up the misconceptions from ten years ago; fighting for humanity’s future with the power of the friendships once forged at an unassuming shrine so long ago… A mere few days wasn’t enough when the world sought to fall apart around them before they could even play catch-up. Especially when a majority of that time was spent ignorant to the truth and each other’s identities.  Tatsuya clenched his fists at the unfairness of it all. He didn’t want to do this—to forget his time with his beloved friends. He had only just gotten them back. It wasn’t fair that they were so cruelly taken away because of a stupid bet between gods and a cheating prophecy that they couldn’t ever hope of beating.  And yet, he didn’t really have a choice in the matter anymore. Eikichi, Lisa, Jun, and he had all made their decisions immediately. Their memories as payment for Maya’s life. To go back on his promise now was to trample the hopes and dreams they carried for this new world. One where humanity’s dark wish didn’t follow them and bring to fruition a future of ruin. He didn’t have a right to step back on that decision. But that didn’t mean that he wasn’t upset about everything. Heaving a sigh, Tatsuya took a step towards the portal, readying himself to pass through and lose everything, when he was stopped by a hand roughly grabbing the sleeve of his blazer. “And just where do you think you’re going?” The voice was as distorted as ever, but he recognized it all the same. He turned around and came face to face with his shadow, its bright red eyes gazing back at him with scorn, just like back in the Leo Temple. Tatsuya unconsciously moved to flick his lighter, but the comforting feeling of metal clasped between his fingers was nowhere to be found. Ah, that’s right. This was the passage between dimensions; if he was going to move on, then in this new world, he and Jun technically would never have met—never would have exchanged their personal treasures with each other in front of that shop once upon a time. It made sense if he was already being stripped of everything that connected him to this side.  The loss of yet another precious memory burned in his chest.  Instead, Tatsuya shoved at the hand still holding him in a vice grip as irritation began prickling at his skin. His other hand, still seeking out the cool metal of his once prized possession, clenched and unclenched at his side. This only made his shadow laugh, the harsh sound carried through the vastness of the void around them.

“What? You think I’m stepping out of line?” His facial features twisted into a cruel grin, eyes practically gleaming with derision. “I’m only telling the truth, Tatsuya; after all, that’s why I’m here in the first place. “I’ve told you before, you self-righteous hypocrite, your weakness is a sin. What makes you think that you can take on the necessary burden to save the world? “You couldn’t even save the life of your beloved older sister figure.” At those words, Tatsuya grabbed his shadow by the collar, arm poised at the ready to strike. However, his shadow didn’t even bother gracing him with a flinch, as if expecting this of his other self. Rather, he only looked unamused, eyes watching Tatsuya like a hawk, waiting.  "If you really want to go to the Other Side, go ahead. Strike me down. Forget about your friends, your memories—all of the things you did, here and now. Your other half isn’t here to shelter you like before. So let's see your resolve.”  Tatsuya’s fist shook with barely restrained anger.  How dare he. Was he not already proving his resolve by choosing to give up everything for this slim chance at a better future? Was he not already showing how strong he was—giving up the sliver of happiness he was denied after ten long, long years of loneliness and isolation? He didn’t have his friends by his side for so long yet, through a chance meeting, met them again… only to have them ripped away oh-so suddenly because some god decided he wanted to win a stupid bet that damn badly? And now his shadow of all things was saying that he didn’t have the strength to move on?  He could kill his shadow right here and now with his bare hands. Prove his resolve and leave this doomed world behind. All he had to do was let go of everything holding him back.   But as his mind filled with the last words spoken to him in the Sea of Souls, he hesitated. He thought back on everything that happened—the impromptu Joker game at Sumaru Prison leading a ragtag group on a wild goose chase throughout the entire city; finally getting closure for the Alaya Shrine incident; and reuniting with people he thought he would never see again. Could he really give all of that up? It was such a short amount of time they had together…  “I don’t…I don’t want to forget what happened. How could I forget…?”  Tatsuya’s fist dropped, his grip on his shadow’s collar loosening ever so slightly.  His shadow sneered. "Oh you can't? Figures. You’ve never been able to make decisions for yourself, always relying on the strengths of others. Pathetic, aren’t you? You can't do anything, the way you are now. 

“And this is why you don’t deserve this second chance.”  The split second hesitation was all that was needed as hands shot out and wrapped themselves around Tatsuya’s neck, squeezing and constricting his air flow immediately. The crushing weight of the memories that clung to him like a vice felt suffocating in the grip his shadow had around his neck. Tatsuya tried to scramble to break the hold on him—to shove his shadow away, kick him, bite even, anything to just breathe—but his shadow was relentless. The fluttering of his heart pounding incessantly against his rib cage spoke to the very real part of him that didn’t want to die yet, fear crawling down his spine. Was he really going to die here? Was he really not going to be able to fulfill his promise? After a few moments, the grip loosened and Tatsuya fell to the floor, lungs burning and coughs racking his body as he tried to take in the oxygen he was deprived of.  His shadow looked at him, disgusted. “Whatever. In the end, you’re free to continue to cling to those damnable memories of yours. But—“ Hands immediately pulled Tatsuya back up to his feet and every nerve in his being seized up on instinct, moving his arms sluggishly to protect his throat. His body was pulled forward with such force that he stumbled, face to face with red eyes that glowed with an ethereal anger. “—just know you can never outrun the guilt of your sins.” With that, a rough shove propelled Tatsuya backwards and he fell through the portal. A darkness unlike any other began to overtake his vision. Right as he was carried to the new world, Tatsuya could have sworn he heard muttered words in the distance. “For your sake, I can only hope the consequences of your actions come back to bite you.”

When the world came back into focus, Tatsuya was lying on a dark checkered tile floor, marble pillars positioned in a semi-circle reaching into a starry sky. Glowing runes floated around him, undulating with magic that seemed to keep the entire place together. He slowly sat up, taking in his surroundings. He was back in the Sea of Souls. But why? Didn't he just come from there, or some extension thereof? And where was Philemon?  However, before Tatsuya could stand and start to look around, the sound of loud clapping and thunderous laughter reverberated through the space, bouncing off the shadows that enveloped him. "Let's give it up for Tatsuya Suou, Philemon's beloved champion! The boy who doomed the whole world with his selfishness!” From the darkness, a sharp click was heard before a tall figure stepped out, the edges of a Sevens uniform coming into view and fluffy brown hair illuminated by the runes that surrounded them. A gleam caught Tatsuya’s eye, a familiar sight of a metal lighter held between the figure’s hands.  For a moment, he thought that his shadow had followed him across universes to perhaps finish him off—his muscles tensed in the case of a fight breaking out—but the golden eyes that stared down at him with contemptuous condescension spoke to who it was that greeted him. The creature wearing his face gave him a mouth-splitting smile, the corners of its lips curling impossibly far as it delighted in Tatsuya’s shock. “Don’t you think this visage suits me? Or, perhaps—“  A blinding flash of light forced Tatsuya to close his eyes and, when it was once again safe to open them, he found a mockery of his best friend, eyes closed and a sweet smile on his face, standing in its place. A silver watch adorned his wrist, catching the light as if to further taunt Tatsuya on what he couldn’t have.  “—you’re more inclined towards his face, hmm? After all, this is your beloved, the one you yearn to see most.” Even the voice was the same. Yet the distortion underlying the words served as a reminder to who was truly in front of him.  Tatsuya immediately lunged at the cruel god, the burning embers of rage licking at his veins as hands readied to rip him to shreds. He already played his asinine game; no way in hell was he going to let this farce continue for even a second. Not on his nor Jun’s honor.  However, inky black hands sprouted from the floor below, grabbing onto his limbs and pinning him down with an inhuman strength. The pressure was enough to force Tatsuya in a kneeling position no matter how much he struggled. A smile began to slowly spread across Nyarlathotep’s lips at the sight of the proud lion reduced to a mere docile kitten.  “Ah, ah, ah, watch that temper of yours, Sun Arcana. You wouldn’t want to hurt the face of the one you hold dearest, no?” Another haughty and malicious laugh echoed through the void as Tatsuya snarled but didn’t make any further movement. The nails digging into his skin served as a well-needed distraction because, loathe as he was to admit it, Tatsuya couldn’t bear to attack any version of Jun. 

Even if that version was currently a monster wearing his face. Swallowing his pride, Tatsuya just bowed his head, hiding his eyes behind his bangs. At least this way, he didn’t have to witness this disgusting display before him. Nyarlathotep resumed his closed-eyed fox smile, head tilted in contented glee as he circled Tatsuya like a predator to prey. “In the end, you chose to forgo the parameters you yourself decided and kept your memories in an act of pure selfishness. You pushed all the pain upon your friends, yet retained your memories…you claim that I’m evil, but I would say you’re just as heartless as you say I am."  The footsteps stopped directly in front of Tatsuya but he refused to look up. Nyarlathotep instead bent down at the waist and hooked a finger under Tatsuya’s chin, forcing his head up so their faces were leveled with one another. “So tell me, how does it feel to sit upon your throne of lies and broken promises, knowing that everything is and was futile in the end?”  Tatsuya flinched at the words. The Crawling Chaos cackled.  “What will you do now, hmm? Doom this world like you did the other, on account of your selfish wish? Start over again anew? You had your one chance and yet you squandered it, all in the name of the tepid things you humans call bonds.” From his spot, Tatsuya began to curl into himself, fists clenching tighter. He hated this. He hated the fact that he had done the one thing he swore he wouldn’t while he was still battling with uncertainty towards the decision to start the world anew. And in doing so, he had betrayed his friends’ feelings. And for what? Because he himself didn’t want to let them go so soon? Maybe his shadow was right about him being a hypocrite… “No need to feel bad—this is what you humans wanted after all. But perhaps you wish for some comfort? A shoulder to cry on? You’re looking for the wrong person if you think I can provide that. But maybe…” The monster knelt down in front of Tatsuya and slowly reached a hand out to touch his hair, fingers tracing down—past his bangs, the curve of his cheekbone, under his chin—before settling back against his cheek in a tender caress. It felt cold. Tatsuya closed his eyes.  “Tatsuya…” 

No… “Tatsuya, it’s alright…”

Anything but this… The hand cupping his cheek was so achingly gentle. The telltale distortion marking the cruel, faceless god had disappeared, the voice calling out to him light and soft, so much like the voice he was so familiar with. Flashes of memories exploded behind his mind’s eye—small touches here and there, a dazzling smile, bright laughter, and the scent of floral notes mixed with a mild perfume… He should know better. He should know better, but a part of him wanted to give in, to chase after the siren’s song that lured him in. Even though Tatsuya knew—knew that behind those closed eyelids awaited, not the beautiful brown irises he loved, but a cold, unfeeling golden glare—it was the closest he could ever be to his beloved in a world that pegged them as strangers.  But still, Tatsuya remained quiet. Silence passed for a beat or two and, ever the hopeful one, Tatsuya thought that perhaps Nyarlathotep had given up on this charade and gotten bored. However, the sound of feet shuffling closer and a body shifting positions gave the answer. “It’s okay. You don’t have to say anything, Tatsuya. I’m never leaving your side…” Something soft pressed against his forehead.  The tender dissonance of the action caused Tatsuya to jerk his head to the side, away from the offending figure, biting down on his tongue as his body shook with unbridled rage. He thrashed against the hands holding him down but they didn’t let up. This only caused the figure—brash, cold, and threatening; nothing like the soft and sweet memories of his Jun—to cackle. "Now, now, don't turn away. You and I both know that this is the one face you could never deny," ‘Jun' opened his eyes and instead of the warm browns that Tatsuya knew and loved, they shone gold, glimmering with malice. “Brilliant. Look at that expression, teeming with desolation." “As much as I would like to keep you here to torment for eternity, that’s not what I’m here for.” Having said that, the fake doppelgänger stood up. With a snap of his fingers, a crown of red flowers materialized into his hands. It seemed to pulsate, swaying in an invisible wind as a few petals dropped to the floor like droplets of fresh blood. Between each bloom, the same inky hands that held Tatsuya down linked together in a mass of writhing limbs, forming a monstrous Mobius strip of sorts.  “A gift for you, Paradox Boy. The first of two. I think you’ll find it quite thoughtful.” Nyarlathotep chuckled as if proud of himself. “A crown for the king of fools May it serve as a testament to your greatest sin, the reminder of the point at which this world was doomed by your own hands.” Another silence rang out in the Sea of Souls and Tatsuya peered up cautiously, bracing himself for whatever that monster had in store. He could still see the image of Jun—‘not Jun,’ he reminded himself; the unnatural gold staring coldly down at him shattered all illusion he could have deluded himself into—looking at him with an expression he never thought his Jun could have.  “I won’t give you an explanation for what this does. That would ruin the fun. But considering all the time you’ve spent with my previous pawn, you’ll know what these mean.” Bending down slightly, the Crawling Chaos placed the flower crown upon Tatsuya’s head.

As soon as the crown touched his brow, a sharp pain coursing through his body caused his sight to become blurry, body quaking and writhing from the shock. Tatsuya wanted to scream, cry, curl up onto the floor–anything to get away from the pain assaulting his body—but the hands still gripping onto him kept him upright. At least there was the comfort that they loosened enough to give him back mobility in his arms, even if it was slight. An involuntary cough left him, shaky as the breaths he tried to take in through the hands that covered his mouth. When he pulled one hand away, Tatsuya could barely make out the blobs of red that coated his fingers. They smelled slightly floral with a hint of iron.  He could only stare bleary-eyed at the god in question. Said god only huffed in response. “Oh don’t worry. This won’t be enough to kill you. After all, this is meant to be a punishment. There would be no fun if I just allowed you to simply die. “No, no. I want you to remember your sins with every breath you take and have carved into your heart the reminder that no one can escape Fate so easily. “That is my final mercy to you, Paradox Boy,” Nyarlathotep said, his voice still distinctly Jun’s but now carrying the power of the monstrous god behind it. “And one that is far more kind than anything Philemon could ever give you.” As the Crawling Chaos dissipated into the shadows, the echoes of maniacal laughter leaving Tatsuya alone in the Sea of Souls, he swore he could see the faint, weak fluttering of golden butterfly wings in the corner of his eye.

At the front of an unassuming train station, six strangers met for the first time.

I wanted to make a tatsujun doujin a couple years ago but idk if I ever will.

It was going to take place on December 31st 1999 cause y2k. Tatsuya and Jun wouldve been laying in bed together cuddling. Jun would be talking about how the world was going to end tonight and jokes about how unfair it is that they were seperated for so long and could only spend a few months together.

He brings up how he used to dream of them growing up together. Adopting a cat but only after they argued for days bc tatsuya would want a dog but jun would want a cat. The argument would escalate to the point that jun would worry that this might be the argument that ends them. He would be so disappointed and cry but that night when he comes home tatsuya would have a kitten with a ridiculously big bow on her collar. They would agree to adopt a dog as their second child but the kitten would be wild and constantly try to eat the plants. They would agree to wait.

He would dream that they would get married. None of their parents would be there but Maya would be the one to give him away. All their friends would live in the same neighborhood. They would even have dinners together. Everyone would help to raise the kids.

Tatsuya quietly listens to all this twisting a metal wire in his hands. He rolls off the bed to get on one knee. Tatsuya proposes in his underware with a cheap wire he twisted into a ring. Jun of course agrees.

They decide to get married that day. Jun starts calling everyone to meet at the shrine. Tatsuya puts on clothes and runs downstairs. While downstairs katsuya stops him to ask why hes grabbing camping equipment. He begins to lecture him on how he needs to be there with the family tonight. He thinks tatsuya needs to get his shit together. Not just with the family but to take his life more seriously. Take school seriously. No more nonsense about going straight to work instead of college. Make their father proud.

Tatsuya leaves as katsuya keeps yelling after him. He slams the bedroom door closed before katsuya makes it up the stairs (before he can see the still severly underdressed jun sitting on the bed with eikichi on the phone)

Jun looks up concerned as katsuya is banging on the door. Tatsuya walks up to him before laying on top of him to kiss deeply. (Eikichi makes gagging noises over the phone)

At the shrine Maya Lisa Anna and Yukino are waiting. Mayas arms are full of fruits for offering. Yukino is bragging about the quality of sake she brought for the wedding.

Jun is near tears as Maya teases the two. Lisa pouts while demanding to do their makeup. While preparing for all this a priest notices the group.

Maya and yukino step in fearing they would be told they would have to leave. The priest sighed and would offer to hold the wedding since the shrine was emptying out.

Eikichi and Miyabi show up with armfuls of snacks to give as offerings. Lisa would berate him for it.

They would have a shinto wedding. It isnt the western wedding that jun would dream about but he wouldnt change it for the world.

The group would see them off as tatsuya and jun would ride off to the mountain. They would set up a campsite and lay together to watch the stars. Jun would point out constellations to tatsuya.

They would countdown to midnight together.

Somewhat Brid regretted leaving the colder wood of her dorm to go out into the current heat, especially given she barely had clothes that fit for the weather, however once she arrived back to visit Hyogai, she was lucky they lend her a comfy shirt instead to rest up... she was curious to try what they suggested, to make Ice themselves...

And so both sat down before the machine, Brid only in the shirt and small shorts as she kneeled over to see how it works... eyes lighting up curious as the shaved ice finally came out.

"So which flavour would you like?"

"Is t-there something like Wild berries?"

"There is Raspberry."

Hyogai handed her the Sirup as she nervously poured it over the ice cream, almost like she discovered the wonders of the earth as it turned another color. And even more she gasped as she tried it for the first time.

"Its incredible... like alchemy but in ice form."

She leaned against their shoulder in happiness as they put an arm around her.

"And you have nothing in your dorm, not even a smartphone?"

"I could but I never s-seen it as necessary.... Odel calls people when I need to talk to them."

Hyogai looked at her and ruffled her hair.

"We really need to get you up to date one some modern things, Gremlin."

"H-hey... I am learning slowly... but I thank you for the help."

She leaned up placing a kiss on their cheek.

"These clothes are really comfy though... maybe I should get more casual clothes."

"Then its settled.... out next date is in the mall."

He was figuring that if he invited Aldrich to accompany him to the beach, he probably would bring his metal detector. But that was right up his alley cause he brought a shovel as well to dig some stuff up... maybe some stuff would be usefull for experiments... eventually both walked together and explored the beach for secret treasure and stuff of interest as suddenly Eikichi put something to Aldrichs notice... and so they both found a certain unique kind of material, as Eikichi looked closer he accidentally went so excited he pulled Aldrich into an embrace before withdrawing and scratching his head.

"It was a good idea to bring it, this will be tons of good things to experiment with."

"I hope to stumble upon fossils more but I am glad we found something for you."

"Even if this is fun and all... don't you wanna take a break, we could search the sea together later as well."

"Splendid idea. Maybe we will find some historical forsaken artifacts."

Eikichi chuckled seeing him excited yet cause him off guard by pulling his arms around him from behind getting him flushed.

"For now we should rest under the umbrella, I did come here to spend more time with you and Not only work on our projects."

"R-Right... its still some to get used to it... to have you as a boyfriend."

"You don't have to be nervous... you know I have fun as long as we spend time together but you still need to not overwork... if not I will trap you with my arms in my lap."

SNK - Resumo sobre uma das maiores produtoras de games

Hoje em dia, a SNK é uma das maiores produtoras de games de todo o Japão, sendo os maiores sucessos desta empresa, Metal Slug e a série de games de lutas mais famosa de todos os tempos, The King of Fighters, que rivaliza com Street Fighter(Capcom). A empresa predecessora da SNK, que levava o nome de Shin Nihon Kikaku(新日本企画 lit. New Japan Project), foi fundada em 1978 por Eikichi Kawasaki na cidade de Osaka. Em 1981, a Shin Nihon Kikaku teve o seu nome mudado para SNK e uma filial foi instalada nos EUA, sendo chamada SNK Electronics Corporation. Os primeiros games que a SNK lançou foram Ozma Wars(1979) e Safari Rally(1980). A qualidade gráfica dos games da SNK mudou a partir de 1981 com o lançamento de Vanguard, e devido ao sucesso deste game, a SNK foi rapidamente conquistando fama e reputação como produtora de games de arcade no Japão e no resto do mundo.

1986-2001 - A era de ouro da SNK

Em Abril de 1986, a Shin Nihon Kikaku Corporation teve o seu nome mudado para SNK Corporation. Em Novembro de 1986, a SNK Electronics Corporation foi renomeada como SNK Corporation of America. Em Março de 1988, a equipe da SNK mudou-se para um prédio em Suita, uma cidade localizada na prefeitura setentrional de Osaka. Entre 1979 e 1986, a SNK produziu 23 games independentes, com destaque maior para Athena(1986), e Ikari Warriors(1986), este último teve tanto sucesso, que gerou duas sequelas, Victory Road(1986) e Ikari III: The Rescue(1989). Durante os anos 1980, o Japão foi afetado pelo Crash dos Videogames de 1983, no entanto, a Nintendo, uma das empresas do segmento de consoles, resistiu fortemente, e em 1985, trouxe ao público japonês o Famicom, que no ocidente foi rebatizado como NES. Na época desse console a SNK lançou um game chamado Crystalis(1990), um action RPG inspirado em fantasia medieval. A SNK como um todo não se envolveu nas "console wars" do início dos anos 1990. Em vez disso, a companhia concentrou seus esforços nos fliperamas. Outros terceiros, como Romstar e Takara, assumiram a árdua e lisérgica missão para licenciar e portar as propriedades da SNK para os vários consoles domésticos da época com a ajuda da divisão americana de entretenimento doméstico da SNK. Com as reprogramações para consoles desempenhadas principalmente fora da empresa, ela passou a desenvolver equipamentos de arcade da marca SNK.

Nota: O nome Ikari veio do subtítulo que o segundo filme da série Rambo recebeu no Japão, Rambo: Ikari no Dasshutsu(ランボー : 怒りの脫出) e o significado é muito simples, Rambo: A Escapada Furiosa. Mais tarde, o grupo Ikari Warriors, composto por Ralf Jones, Clark Still e Heidern apareceriam em The King of Fighters ‘94.

No começo de 1990, A SNK desenvolveu uma máquina de arcade chamada NEO GEO MVS, que apresentava o sistema de vários cartuchos de arcade em um único hardware, daí o significado da sigla MVS, que significa Multi Video System. No entanto, a SNK queria trazer os games de arcades para as casas das pessoas, sem comprometer o desempenho da CPU e da memória que os consoles domésticos típicos foram forçados a fazer. Veio então em mente o Neo Geo Advanced Entertainment System(AES). Diversas franquias surgiram com o Neo Geo, tais como Art of Fighting(龍虎の拳), Fatal Fury(餓狼伝説), The King of Fighters, Metal Slug, etc., bem como games obscuros como Savage Reign e Galaxy Fight. A SNK também desenvolveu o NEO GEO CD, o Hyper Neo Geo 64(uma placa de arcade que falhou miseravelmente em repetir o sucesso do Neo Geo MVS, e o único game dessa plataforma a ser portado para consoles foi o Fatal Fury: Wild Ambition), e os consoles portáteis: Neo Geo Pocket e Neo Geo Pocket Color. Vários títulos de franquias mais famosos, originalmente criados para os sistemas MVS e AES, foram portados para outros consoles, como Genesis, Saturn e Dreamcast; SNES; PlayStation e PlayStation 2. No entanto, nem tudo se resume a flores, pois a partir dos anos 2000, a SNK estava passando por uma crise que levara a empresa à falência em pouco tempo...

2001 - Falência e renascimento como SNK Playmore

Vamos ter de admitir, a SNK fez muito sucesso na época em que os arcades eram uma febre(década de 1990), no entanto, a partir dos anos 2000, o interesse nos arcades diminuiu consideravelmente em favor dos consoles caseiros e portáteis, e a empresa nipônica responsável por The King of Fighters não estava conseguindo se ajustar às mudanças do mercado, com os recentes lançamentos de hardware vendendo muito mal, e a migração para novas áreas de marketing como parques de diversão falhou. Em Janeiro de 2000, a situação financeira da SNK era tão critica ao ponto da empresa ser adquirida pela Aruze, uma fabricante de pachinko. Em vez de desenvolver máquinas de arcades usando as propriedades intelectuais da SNK, a Aruze estava mais interessada em fazer pachinkos com bases nessas franchises para obter benefício próprio com essas máquinas. No mesmo ano(2000), a Capcom optou por fazer parceria com a SNK na criação de uma série de games de luta com personagens de ambas as empresas. Os games da série Capcom VS. SNK foram um sucesso, no entanto, a maioria dos lucros foi passada para a Capcom, uma vez que foi a produtora de Street Fighter que fez os games. A SNK encerrou as operações em solo americano em 13 de Junho de 2000. Com a moral em baixa, alguns funcionários migraram para a Capcom, outros para a Arc Sysem Works, outros se juntaram para criar uma empresa chamada Dimps, que fez games como a trilogia Dragon Ball Z Budokai. 

Eikichi Kawasaki juntou-se com outros antigos executivos da SNK para formar a BrezzaSoft, que prosseguiu com o desenvolvimento de games do Neo Geo, como por exemplo, The King of Fighters 2001. Observando o fim da companhia, Kawasaki deixou a SNK juntamente com outros executivos para formar a Playmore em Agosto de 2001. Em 2 de Abril de 2001, a SNK solicitou ao Tribunal Distrital de Osaka a aplicação da Lei de Reabilitação Civil. O pedido foi aceito e os procedimentos de revitalização já estavam em andamento, e a sede voltou para Suita, Prefeitura de Osaka. Em 30 de outubro de 2001, o Tribunal Distrital de Osaka declarou a falência da SNK, com isso, a SNK entrou com pedido de falência e colocou os direitos de propriedade intelectual de suas franquias em leilão. As licenças dos direitos de produção e desenvolvimento de jogos da SNK para suas franquias foram vendidas para várias outras empresas. Isso incluiu a BrezzaSoft, que produziu a franquia The King of Fighters entre 2001 e 2002, e a Mega Enterprise, que produziu Metal Slug 4. Para recuperar o controle da SNK, a nova empresa de Eikichi Kawasaki, a Playmore, fez uma oferta com sucesso e recebeu os direitos de propriedade intelectual da SNK em 30 de outubro de 2001. A empresa então começou a reforçar seus ativos e recontratar ex-funcionários da SNK para se reestruturar financeiramente. 

Para se restabelecer no mercado de games, a Playmore adquiriu a BrezzaSoft e os ex-desenvolvedores da SNK, bem como a Noise Factory, desenvolvedora Neo Geo baseada no Japão. A Sun Amusement, uma distribuidora japonesa de jogos comerciais, foi adquirida pela SNK para fornecer à empresa um ponto de distribuição de fliperama no Japão. Escritórios internacionais foram estabelecidos na Coreia do Sul, Hong Kong e Estados Unidos sob o nome de SNK NeoGeo para distribuição de jogos comerciais e, posteriormente, de consumo. Todas as entidades adquiridas foram consolidadas na SNK Playmore em 7 de julho de 2003, quando a Playmore recuperou os direitos de uso do nome SNK da Aruze. No mesmo ano, a SNK comprou a ADK logo após sua falência. Anteriormente, a ADK era uma empresa terceirizada fortemente associada à SNK desde o final dos anos 80. As operações da SNK Playmore no Japão já se assemelhavam em grande parte à empresa original: a SNK empregou muitos funcionários que saíram após seu pedido de falência e ocuparam seu antigo prédio. Também é notado a forma como Kawazaki lidou com o caso envolvendo a Aruze, em relação às IPs, visto que tal empresa continuou descaradamente usando os personagens da SNK mesmo após à dissolução oficial da softhouse que produzia The King of Fighters.    

SNK Playmore(2003-2016) - Reerguimento gradual da SNK

Em 2003, a SNK Playmore retomou os direitos sobre as placas AES, bem como as atividades na América e a softhouse de The King of Fighters se reerguia gradativamente. No entanto, com os grandes avanços tecnológicos da época(2003), a SNK Playmore não via necessidade em desenvolver hardware de arcade proprietário, preferindo descontinuar a placa AES para formar parceria com a Sammy Corporation. Usando a placa Atomiswave, a SNK desenvolveu os próprios games e em 2006 migrou para o Taito Type X². Paralelamente a isso, novos games foram desenvolvidos, como a série Maximum Impact, além de uma infinidade de coletâneas de clássicos. Infelizmente a SNK não teve o retorno esperado no Type X² com a décima segunda iteração de The King of Fighters. Embora o game apresentasse gráficos em alta definição com o uso de sprites, KOF XII foi criticado pela falta de conteúdo e a ausência de enredo, sendo considerado um dream match assim como KOF ‘98, em vez de um título canônico, como KOF 2001, por exemplo. Em 2010, a SNK Playmore lançou The King of Fighters XIII, que foi considerado de longe um game muito melhor que o predecessor justamente por ser completo, apesar do estilo gráfico ser similar ao Guilty Gear. 

Outro grande feito da SNK Playmore que merece destaque é o NEO GEO “X”, um console retrô portátil de 2012 que continha em seu armazenamento vários clássicos da época de ouro da SNK como desenvolvedora de arcades, muito antes da época em que a Nintendo trouxe o NES Classic Edition para o público, e a SEGA faria o mesmo com o Genesis Mini. Enfim, foi uma grande iniciativa mirabolante por parte da SNK Playmore, no entanto essa ideia não durou muito tempo, pois logo o NEO GEO “X” foi descontinuado, devido a desentendimentos entre a SNK Playmore e a Tommo Inc., a manufaturadora do NEO GEO “X”. Naquele momento, o futuro da SNK Playmore estava meio que incerto, mas muitas coisas estavam pra mudar, pois assim como a Capcom, a SNK pretendia se reinventar e recuperar a reputação da época passada que ela perdeu.

2016 - Presente - Reestruturação da SNK

Em Março de 2015, uma empresa chinesa chamada Leyou Technologies Holdings despertou grande interesse em investir em “uma certa renomada companhia japonesa produtora de games”. A ideia deles era a de pegar as propriedades intelectuais da SNK e expandi-las para segmentos midiáticos além dos videogames, como filmes, histórias em quadrinhos e animações. Em 25 de Abril de 2016, a SNK abandonou oficialmente o subtítulo Playmore e readotou o slogan “The Future Is Now”. Um dos primeiros frutos dessa reestruturação foi The King of Fighters XIV, que foi o primeiro título da série a apresentar gráficos tridimensionais, apresentando o elenco clássico da série, bem como alguns personagens novos. Em Fevereiro de 2022, fãs foram presenteados com The King of Fighters XV, que surpreendeu muitas pessoas, principalmente por causa do retorno de um personagem azulado que foi esquecido pela empresa, K9999, agora intitulado Krohnen. Segundo a SNK, K9999 era um plágio de Tetsuo Shima, do filme Akira, e uma vez que eles tinham o mesmo dublador, Nozomu Sasaki, K9999 apareceu apenas em KOF 2001 e KOF 2002. Em The King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match(2009), K9999 foi substituído por Nameless, e a SNK estudava uma forma de trazer K9999 de volta para a franquia sem cometer violações de copyright. Para solucionar o problema, a SNK redesenhou K9999 com traços de Alba Meira e Nameless, no entanto, o personagem foi renomeado Krohnen, para evitar questões de copyright com o criador de Akira, Katsuhiro Otomo. Enfim, a SNK é uma grande produtora de games, que teve os momentos áureos, mas que teve de passar por muitos problemas, desde o risco de falência com a Aruze, até os dias atuais com a reestruturação, graças ao apoio sólido da Leyou Technologies Holdings.
