Chinese vessels spotted near Balikatan training area off Palawan
Since it formally started on April 22, Balikatan 2024 resulted in several military exercises and activities involving armed elements of the Philippines, the United States and France. This of course caught the attention of China and according to a recent Philippine News Agency (PNA) news article, several Chinese vessels were spotted near a training area off Palawan.

So funny to me when boe calls adepts 'wizards' (derogatory). Like they’re not even wrong, it just doesn’t begin to cover the whole *gestures vaguely at the waking nightmare that is the nine houses' standing army.*
I hear wizard, and the first thing I think is not ‘shock troopers who can suffocate you in putrid, pulsating globs of boiling fat pulled from the mangled remains of your dead comrades’. Or ‘soldiers who you definitely blew up a month ago appearing back on the battlefield with their organs regrown and and a functioning bone arm taped on where the missing limb should be’. Or ‘conquerors who arrived in a space ship powered by an obelisk covered with the ancient script of the unrestful dead and bathed constantly in fresh arterial blood while literal skeletons crawl over the hull like weevils’.
Fucking wizards. Love it. Keep being irreverent you crazy bastards.

His mother was 40 years old when Jesse was born. Jesse grew up in a very rough home in Morgantown, West Virginia. Jesse’s father, who was mentally ill, was a violent man and was abusive to Jesse.
At 13, his father died leaving his mother to take care of him and his brothers. At the time, things weren’t easy for Jesse and he didn’t think life held much hope for him. While Jesse had his struggles, he had dreams too. He wanted to be a ventriloquist and he found books on ventriloquism. He practiced with sock puppets and saved his money until he could get a real ventriloquist dummy. When he was old enough, he joined the military.
The military recognized his talents and placed him in the entertainment corp. He toured the western Pacific Islands as a comedian as part of a G.I. variety show called "Stars and Gripes.” It was there he was able to share his talents with fellow soldiers. In 1946, he was discharged with the rank of Technician Grade 5, which was the equivalent then of a Corporal. During his military service, Jesse was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal (with 4 bronze service stars), Army Good Conduct Medal, Marksman Badge (with an M1 Carbine), and Honorable Service lapel pin.
Through his military service, Jesse gained confidence and found that he had a talent for making people laugh. In spite of his early struggles, Jesse became one of the best-loved characters of all time. For it was Jesse,...Jesse Don Knotts who brought us Barney Fife!

across the world (in sixteen hours or less)
you know how you know nothing's gonna be okay again?
you lose your page again and again
you can't find your shoes
you pick up the phone even though you know you should stop
the happiest thing you can find is in a sad movie
and nothing changes
it's not English homework poetry where everything has to rhyme
you've got room now and it doesn't change a thing
your whole world is still your bedroom and some rock CDs
just like it was when you were five and ten and sixteen
there's no relief in the weather
because your weather's all the way across the world
(your brother's all the way across the world)
the rain is all the way across the world
the mountains you grew up with are outside your reach
the fog is still on that beach full of rocks
you still feel trapped
and you're never gonna see them again
xoxo.

To this day, it holds the records for the highest altitude in horizontal flight and the fastest speed for a non-rocket powered aircraft. For me it is one of the most beautiful engineering designs in history, a kin to the great Art Deco locomotives of the 1930s. "It still looks like something from the future, even though it was designed back in the 1950s," Peter Merlin, an aviation historian and author of "Design and Development of the Blackbird". "Because of the way the fuselage bends and the wing curves and twists, it looks more organic than mechanical. Most conventional airplanes look like someone built them -- this one almost looks like it was grown." 70 years on from its inception the SR 71 Blackbird is a timeless design classic.
