Just gone into chapter 6 on my third play through. Really wanna beat the shit out of Dutch.

He didn’t “fumble the prettiest girl at camp” he ruined Molly’s life.

People always hate on her for being lazy and useless, but what was she supposed to do?? she doesn’t have any experience in theft or hunt in like other members of camp. She never someone teach her any of it, she was just ‘dutches girl’. She was put on a pedestal by Dutch and by doing that, cut her off from the rest of the girls at camp. Which is what I think made her go even more crazy because she only had one person. Dutch. And when Dutch was tired of her, she had no one.

Sorry for the mini rant and I know your mostly a Micah page, but I see you do like Molly a bit so I wanna hear any analysis you have of her :)

I have a LOT to say about how some people—which is primarily the male part of the fandom—view Molly and Dutch's relationship. I'll sum it up into something short today, but I have a lot more I could say about them.

I constantly feel like their relationship is just way too over-simplified. People jump around actually saying it, but the truth is that Dutch abused Molly. He often used manipulation to make her out to be at fault for every minor or major thing, especially when it was his own doing that led to their fights. I also hate it when people act like Dutch just suddenly lost feelings by chapter 6, as if he wasn't already ignoring and belittling her, flirting with and checking out the other, younger girls in the gang and so much more, all already by chapter 3. He'd be cheating on her in broad daylight, in front of the others, with no repercussions. Molly was warned only by the other girls (Karen and Abigail) in two chapters before the sixth one, but the men do nothing. However, there's more to it—more which shows just how much influence Dutch had on the gang, to the point of being quite sad.

In one camp interaction, where you'll find Dutch talking with Mary-Beth, he'll make a comment about her to Charles and John as they're fixing a wagon, telling them that she's becoming 'quite a lady'. Charles and John will turn their heads and look at him for a moment, but thats it. Nobody will ever say anything about Dutch's odd, almost predatory behaviour—which is where power and title come into play. Dutch is never criticised openly because he's the leader, obviously. But, this makes it easy to get away with doing those types of things, because nobody dares say anything to him. Dutch has a power trip on not just Molly as his girlfriend, but on every other gang member as their leader. I don't blame Charles or John for not saying something about that odd comment, exactly because of that.

Molly is very much another unfortunate female character that's fell victim to misogyny, not just in the game but in the fandom—looking at the male fanbase, as I said. It's a very simple 50/50; they either blame her for everything, calling her annoying and saying she was the rat all along even when Milton confirms she didn't say a word and that her saying so was just some drunken blabbering. Or, they say exactly what you quoted, that Dutch 'fumbled' her. I've said that before, mostly as a joke, but it's genuinely concerning and upsetting to see people make that the only trait of hers. She is another very interesting character that's just swept under the rug by the fandom, and used for the same few misogynistic jokes over and over again. It is tiring to see, and I wish that more people appreciated how strong Molly was for putting up with such a manipulative relationship in silence for so long.

If Sean had survived to Chapter 6, how do you think he would’ve reacted to Molly’s death? And Lenny’s, Kieran’s and Hosea’s?

Dare I say that I think he would be the most devestated by Lenny's death. Naturally he was close with Hosea bit more... Tense than say Hosea and Lenny. I also think Lenny and Hosea's deaths would be what made him switch from team Dutch to team Arthur because he can't just blame it on bad luck. Like now something is wrong.

To Kieran, eh. Probably not the most sad. I mean he does talk with Kieran, and is one of the only folk not yelling at him, but he wasn't friends with him either per say. Probably feel sad though. With Molly, I feel he would be confused. ATP having switch to team Arthur, and knowing that killing teammates ain't good, but also what if she indeed was a traitor. What then? Yk?

Savour the Moment by - @evesaintyves

This fic made me both sad and hungry

This is a truly beautiful portrait of Molly and her relationship with Ginny. I really love how effortlessly this weaves in the food and cooking imagery with the emotions of the characters. The descriptions are so detailed and vivid that you can practically taste the cakes and pies off of the words alone.

Grief is hanging over this fic heavy, grief from Molly with her brothers and grief yet to come from Ginny. These two very different women, who also feel things very differently, have an extremely engaging back and forth of attempted connections. Both of them want it but aren’t able to easily get there with each other, and that struggle was very compelling to me.

Really such a great fic, I always find myself coming back to it

The house elf plot-line in the hp books leaves MUCH to be desired when it comes to fully and unequivocally condemning slavery. Due to this, you might find that me and my black ass are, shockingly, not its biggest fans.

However this fic is a brilliant look into elves’ oppression and enslavement AND their culture and agency.

This fic focuses on the death of Hepzibah Smith and the conditions surrounding and leading up to it. Specifically the subjugation of Elves and how that system encourages the idea of them as docile, unintelligent, and submissive (And how this perception can be wielded against the wizards that enslave them).

What I find so striking about this fic is how language is centered as a tool to illustrate the functions of colonial mindsets. I think this does a fantastic job at subverting the trope of “improper English = stupidity” that HP uses so frequently.

This was an extremely satisfying and moving read!

And if I said that she did nothing wrong then what?

I’ve mentioned this fic several times before but I don’t think I’ll ever be over it. The way this is written is actually masterful; the attention to details, the poetic language, the characterization. I’m going to scream.

There is just something about this fic that entrances me. This is actually my favorite genre of story, the “good for her!” category, and whenever I read/watch these I go temporarily insane.

Because this is in first person we’re really getting into Mrs. Zabini’s mindset and the traumas that inform it, and this is extremely effective/convincing in making you stay on her side even while she is committing cold blooded murder.

Another thing I love about this is how the actual murders are so casually placed in the story, in comparison with how rich the rest of the imagery that Mrs. Zabini is describing. It’s almost like an afterthought. It makes her sound so much colder and more calculating than if there was a long depiction of each individual killing, so I thought that was a really brilliant writing choice.

If you love Gone Girl definitely give this a read!

This one has it all: accidental cannibalism, ancient rituals, Snape sass, feral Lily, elf politics, generational trauma, fairy induced psychosis, and most importantly the Marauders + Sev and Lily + Regulus and Narcissa all teamed up. Oh yeah I’m eating this up

This one is longer than the others so I’m really going to try to make this as brief as I can but this fic is actually insane because it’s everything I’ve ever wanted in a hp fic and I think I could talk about it forever.

I was genuinely so giddy reading this. There were so many twists and turns and it remained gripping the whole time. This is a psychedelic fever dream, introspective character study, horror adventure and a beautiful tale of friendship all wrapped in one. I absolutely loved everyone’s characterization here, they’re all so beautifully flawed and you can really understand where they are coming from on a personal level but also on a sociological level, I think the author did a MASTERFUL job at this.

The worldbuilding is INSANELY good (the interlude chapters revolving around each of their mothers made me cry repeatedly. And Elieens chapter is just incredible, I have no words). And the pacing is just excellent, I never felt like any of the growth was forced or unearned.

This storytelling is also amazing, whenever there was a theme or reference brought up before in the story that got tied back in again, my mouth would physically drop because it was so seamless yet so meaningful and impactful.

(Sorry but I just need to talk about characterization for a brief minute because this has some of my favorite characterizations that I’ve ever read of some of these characters:

This is my absolute favorite Lily. Like ever. She feels so real here with her anger and flaws and quirks. She is neither villainized nor deified but a full fleshed out character. I just love her!

This is also my favorite James! James is usually a tough character for me to stay engaged with but this fic does an excellent job at balancing his strengths and flaws while keeping him compelling.

This Snape is PERFECT!!! I actually don’t think I can describe how much I love this depiction, all I can say is if you’re a Snape lover who enjoys him being a lil shit you should read this.

Also Peter is just incredible here, too often is he forgotten but this fic really does him justice.

Ok I’ll stop but just know that I could go on and on about all of these characters)

And seeing these characters who would normally hate each other come together to build meaningful bonds while they grow with their own issues is actually cathartic.

If you are a Marauder and Snape fan this is required reading, I really can’t recommend this enough!

Hmmmm. I mean it depends on which ones? Like Ginny and Molly and Arthur both aren't going to be hanging out with Lucius no matter what bc of the diary, for instance. Honestly I don't think any of them would forgive Lucius to the point of being acquaintances. Narcissa and Draco are a different story--helped by that in MY would building/headcanon/universe/whatever, they are major witnesses for the prosecution of the other Death Eaters and make serious efforts at reform. But I see Ginny and Draco as becoming friends postwar and like I think Ron would eventually come around on him or at least be civil. And both Ron and Ginny would be civil acquaintances with Narcissa--more complicated for Ron due to the brief period he spent as her prisoner--because of her saving Harry's life, they are grateful for that. And I also see her being involved in Teddy's life, and also see Romione and Hinny being involved with Teddy, so they would all get along over that. Whereas Bill--who was harmed by Draco's actions if indirectly--would be frosty with him, though I also think he'd be decently understanding of the rough position Draco was in. Civil to Narcissa though. Charlie...I think would be a little contemptuous of Narcissa and Draco but willing to interact with them postwar--and maybe he could bond with Narcissa over a mutual love of dragons (my random Narcissa HCs strike again lol). I don't see George being civil with any Death Eaters, honestly, even the reluctant Draco and accomplice Narcissa. He would not be able to face them without going for wands. I could also see Percy trying to be very distant from any ex-Death Eaters as well--and like during his Ministry villain era Lucius was largely losing stock so I don't think he'd know Lucius? I did see at least one fic where Lucius seduced him though. That was awesome. But irrelevant to this question as it was a honey pot thing during GoF and OOTP. With Molly and Arthur, I think...they could maybe be civil, but never friendly with Narcissa (they might be able to like talk about Teddy but nothing more than that). Bc they see themselves as her opposite in their consistent active choice to oppose VOldemort compared to her passive acceptance. Especially Molly, who I think was originally at least decently well-off and descended in social station marrying Arthur for love. She'd be pretty passive aggressive to Narcissa lol. Whereas Draco it think they'd see as raised badly and ultimately as a child soldier--with his parents and Voldemort largely to blame for his decisions, especially given how against their kids fighting they are they clearly don't like child soldiers. So they could definitely forgive him, and if one of their kids dated him they'd accept him though maybe not without initial disapproval.

This was surely the worst day of Mary’s life. Well, objectively speaking it was hard to judge that sort of thing without seeing them all in a row but at this moment, with her fiancé’s daughter screaming in the back seat of the car it was hard to imagine there’d be one worse than this.

“Katie, sweetheart we’re nearly there.”

“IT HURTS!”

“I know, sweetie. I know.” The guilt churned in Mary’s stomach again just as it had from the moment she’d heard Kate’s scream cut through the morning. She’d only gone back inside for a second, just a second because Kate had looked at her with a cheeky smile, leaning over the handlebars of her bicycle.

“Can we get chips for lunch?”

Mary had pretended to think about it. ‘You’d have to tell Appa that I made you eat broccoli.”

Kate gave her another cheeky smile, “I can do that.”

Mary chuckled, kissing Kate’s forehead “I need to call the shop. We can cycle down.”

“Okay!” Kate had pushed off again wobbling a little, and Mary had turned around, just for a second to go inside and call the shop down the street and she’d heard it.

She spun back around to Kate crumpled on the path outside, tears streaming down her face. SHe’d wanted to cry herself as she’d bundled Kate into the booster seat she now had in the back of her car. She’d been close when she’d called Tharman whose voice had cracked when he’d heard Kate’s cries from the back seat.

She nearly mounted the curb in the car park but she didn’t care as she scrambled towards the back seat. Tears were still streaming down Kate’s face and her right arm was clutched awkwardly against her chest.

“Katie, I’m sorry.” She picked Kate up, cradling her against her chest.

“It really hurts.”

Kate’s face was pressed against her neck, tears spilling into the collar of Mary’s sweatshirt and her heart felt like it was breaking. It had been a year since she’d met Kate and her adorable father and even when they’d first met Mary had felt a tug towards Kate, just as strong as the one towards Tharman. Her daughter as well as his. That was their intention. She took Kate to school just as often as he did, Kate waited in her office after school while she finished her last few appointments. Kate was her daughter as well.

“Hi,” Mary tried to ignore the way her voice wobbled, “My daughter fell off her bike, she’s hurt her arm. I think it might be broken.”

The nurse nodded, sliding a clipboard towards her. “Bring these back to me when you’re done.”

Mary found a seat and tucked Kate, still crying gently onto her knee, her face still tucked into Mary’s neck, speeding through the forms with her heart racing.

Mary started to rock her gently, soothing herself as much as Kate. “You’ll be okay. They’ll take a picture of your arm and see if it’s okay.”

“Will Appa be here soon?”

Mary nodded, “He’s on his way.”

Kate let out a shuddering breath, “Can I have chippies for dinner instead?”

Mary let out a watery chuckle, “I’ll buy you chippies and a sausage.”

“Okay.”

Mary had no idea how long they sat there, swaying gently together, feeling Kate’s tears slowly stop.

Kate looked up at the doctor who’d called her name through the curtain of her hair, looking nervously between her and Mary. “Can my Mummy come?”

What do you think each gang members favorite shows would be if they were from this century? Like modern shows and stuff?

OOOH this is very interesting, and I got a few in mind :)

some are more accurate maybe, some had to be mustered up to be filled in since I had no ideas D:

the guys:

Dutch — Hear me out; fashion shows. This man is first in line for the TV remote when theres a Victoria's Secret runway on one of the channels. That, or those "Wear or Tear" shows. He becomes a true fashionista.

Arthur — I feel, same with Charles, he'd be into watching Bear Grylls surviving in the wild. I don't know how to explain this one tbh, it just sounds right to me.

John — I really struggled with this one, honestly. I could NOT think of one thing he would watch. Anyhow, Abigail doesn't let him watch too much of it, but he'll also tune in when theres a football match OR, even better; baseball. I feel like he's a baseball type guy.

Javier — Another hear me out; Spanish cooking shows. This I have literally no explanation for, it came to me and I instantly said 'oh, YES' aloud. So, I'm sticking with it.

Micah — Would be big into sport channels, football and especially big on ice hockey. Let's be honest, he's literally a dad on Sunday afternoons but like, every day of the week, my little couch potato. His main thing would be ice hockey and I stand firm by that.

Lenny — Just a hunch here, but I think Lenny would like crime shows. Whether it's something like Criminal Minds or actual criminal cases and how they were solved, he'd be very much interested in that.

Sean — LOVES to watch people wrestle. He's either laughing about someone getting their shit handed to them or screaming at the TV for one of the people to punch harder.

Bill — Dog shows!! He loves those dog competitions where people train their dogs to run around and complete the courses, always cheers a certain dog on like it's his own and like he's getting the prize money.

Hosea — Chess competitions. I also don't know how to explain this one much, but I feel like he'd enjoy learning to play/to get better at chess through watching others play it, making little notes on a paper.

Strauss — Gotta be those old people Bingo channels with like, live games. He tried making his own bingo cards and literally nobody wanted to play with him because they said it was boring—and that he did it all wrong :( Otherwise peepaw loves that stuff.

Josiah — He loves watching "[Country]'s Got Talent", any country really. As soon as he sees a magician come up, he instantly locks in to see if he knows the trick that person is trying to do, and he especially loves the dangerous stunt compilations on Youtube. Rewatches them on a daily.

Reverend — Mostly online church services and those live broadcasts of it. If not that, which he does daily imo, it'll be some drug documentary. (struggled with this one D:)

Charles — National Geographic Documentaries; do I need say more? It's how he mostly learns about wildlife, if you don't count books. That, or I feel like he'd enjoy watching Bear Grylls surviving in the wilderness.

Sadie — She's also into crime shows, and especially true crime. You can't watch it with her because she loves to comment on EVERYTHING happening in the show, stuff like calling the killers bastards and finding what the clues the police find mean before the people in the show do sometimes.

Tilly — I was unsure of this at first, but I feel like she'd enjoy either cooking or gardening shows, but I'm more leaning to the latter. Likes to learn about all the different plants, sometimes writes information down in case she wants to plant something herself.

Mary-Beth — You know she'd be big into drama series and all the different reality TV shows. I swear, she'd literally LOVE Croatian drama shows and series so much, on the edge of her seat the entire time, literally. That, or she loves cheesy romances, of course.

Karen — I don't know if you guys have this, but we have a show which roughly translates to "Marriage at first", where two people get married at first sight. You can say yes or no at the altar after you see them for the first time, and the show leads you through the upcoming two-three weeks before the wedding. She'd love that, would be judging the wedding dresses the women pick the entire time.

Molly — Watches sickly sweet romcoms to heal her poor, broken heart. Good for her. :(

Abigail — Watches whatever Jack wants to watch mostly, but if she's got free time to watch something herself, she'll mostly use drama shows as background noise. Somehow, I feel like she isn't big on watching TV, so like myself basically.

Susan — She reminds me so much of my grandma that I have to say Turkish drama shows. My grandma has to be in bed by 8pm sharp with her shows, and that is exactly how I see Susan😭

do you think many members of dutch’s gang were religious? was dutch even religious?

There are some characters that we cant tell other than "oh they grew up in this place in this age" but there are also some where we know their religions! I am quickly going to go over them but HeavenlyMorals made a really good post on this which I recommend looking at!

Dutch is not a catholic, he verbally talks about his dislikes for them, meaning he probably grew up protestant, however he does act more in romantisism, which is based on the relationship between man, god and nature.

Hosea is protestant. He talks about wanting to become a priest however he gave up on it because he needed to be a catholic and he wasn't fond of that idea. He talks about heaven and salvation and about his relationship with god being rocky due to Bessie's death.

Arthur is agnostic. He is open to the idea of faith, talking about whether or not he can get salvation however he tells the nun he does not believe in anything at all. That said, he dislikes the church but not the people. He doesnt really care what people believe in, he respects it, but he hates how the church takes and takes.

John is a non-practicing christian. He makes reference to god, like marrying Abigail in front of her, Dutch not being saved and so on, but he is rather passive when it comes to religion itself and is rather realistic.

Abigail is a praciticing Christian. She asks Jack to read verses for her.

Sean is likely cultual catholic. He talks about being a Child Of God, and is proud of his irish heritage which is known for catholis.

Javier is too cultural catholic. He doesn't speak of it but he makes the cross sign.

Molly is probably a protestant due to her troubles with Sean.

Micah is atheist. He uses himself as a god, he bullies Swanson for being religious and talks it down.

Sadie is christian, though not practicing. She mentions god as a force but doesn't practice.

Swanson is protestant, though he has swayed a little. He talks about how "maybe catholics are right" when he is completely down and doubting in chapter 2.

For your evil mermaid au, how did Molly end up becoming a mermaid?

OOOO OK I ACTUALLY THOUGHT ABOUT THIS

To make a long story short, Molly ran away from home and asked the boys and Giovanni for help, she wanted OUT of that house. The boys and Gio DID have the idea to ask Ramsey to give her a contract and have a "free trial" of underwater life to see if she wanted to stay with them instead, and pitched it to Molly!

Needless to say, they wrote an official contract once the free trial period was up (Adoption Papers) and Molly has been living as a mermaid under Giovanni and the minions' care since!
