SANTA MONICA, Calif., November 17, 2023 – In anticipation of today’s worldwide release of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, global content leader Lionsgate (NYSE: LGF.A, LGF.B) has teamed up with Spotify for a multifaceted partnership that celebrates the legacy that music has played throughout the history of the Hunger Games franchise. 

From the beginning of the franchise, music has played a prominent role, with Taylor Swift, Coldplay, and Lorde previously providing memorable tracks for the films; in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, three-time Grammy® Award winning singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo joins their prestigious ranks, co-writing and performing the end title credit song “Can’t Catch Me Now.” The soundtrack to the new film, produced by Dave Cobb, also includes eight songs performed by the film’s star Rachel Zegler and new music from Flatland Cavalry, Billy Strings, Molly Tuttle, and more. The soundtrack is available today via Geffen Records.

As part of this partnership, the studio and Spotify are diving deep into that musical history of the film. Featuring explorations of the previous and new soundtracks, the partnership is highlighted by an opening day (November 17) bespoke "Sounds from Panem" destination available globally including the Hunger Games Official Playlist featuring songs from the new film’s soundtrack, and other playlists inspired by the film like Spotify’s Front Porch playlist. There will also be a Hunger Games audiobooks shelf available in the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and the United Kingdom featuring all the books from the series. To further expand the presence of the partnership, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes will be the Presenting Media Sponsor for Spotify's This is Olivia Rodrigo playlist during release week. 

Supporting the initiative across 27 markets, Spotify will feature The Hunger Games on billboard signage in Times Square and Los Angeles, post on its socials, and feature an exclusive  Q&A with Olivia Rodrigo on Spotify’s For the Recordblog. Spotify also co-sponsored Monday’s star-studded special fan event, where they obtained exclusive content and access to the film’s talent and filmmakers.

On Air Fest Announces New Star Attendees at Podcast Party

Okay, so it's not Taylor Swift's Eras tour. But for podcast fans, it's pretty cool. On Air Fest in LA continues to add celebrities and activities to the festival for people who love audio. For example, On Air Fest has just announced Showcase of The Audible Original Third Eye with Felicia Day, Live Talk Easy Taping From Brit Marling & Sam Fragoso as Final Headliners For On Air LA Annex.  Taking place November 1st-4th at multiple locations across the city, On Air Fest will now kick off with an exclusive showcase of Audible's Third Eye, live at KCRW's state-of-the-art Annenberg Performance Studio. Alongside a sneak preview of KCRW's soul-centric new season of Lost Notes, and an interactive rendition of CBC's Let's Make a Horror, Third Eye creator, acclaimed actress, voiceover artist and New York Times bestselling author Felicia Day (Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, Mystery Science Theatre: 3000, Supernatural, The Magicians) will dive deeper into the side-splitting fantasy adventure series, discussing the creation process behind the Audible Original, and the ways in which audio storytelling is able to enhance and enrich listeners' lives.

For the next night of On Air LA Annex, November 2nd, another vanguard of storytellers, audio creatives and inspired listeners return to KCRW's Santa Monica studio to further shape and celebrate the culture of sound. Following its two nights of programming at KCRW, On Air LA Annex continues on Saturday, November 4th at dublab in University Park, for a gathering focused on exploring the future of podcasting, and revealing new answers to the question of "what's next?" (WIRED). From 2pm-8pm, On Air Open House will deliver an all-day immersive sound event that is free and open to the public.

Each session will feature sound and storytelling in immersive new ways, bringing everything from a Dolby Atmos immersive audio installation to foley performances, sculptures you can hear and listening booths, vibrating drinks and bass waves, live radio broadcasts, in-studio podcast tapings, DJ sets and more from Ear Hustle, ESPN 30 for 30, Joanna Fang, KamranV, LAist's How to LA and Imperfect Paradise, Radio Nopal, Tenderfoot TV's High Strange and Dear Alana, The Wind, Western Sound and others.

 On the heels of debuting On Air: The Podcast Experience earlier this year, a multiroom installation that "transforms the podcast into an  immersive experience", the On Air Open House will include an inaugural new exhibit, as guests move between different stations to interact with the first-ever collection of On Air Official Selects.

Launched as part of On Air LA Annex 2023, the open call for short-form audio stories invited global creatives to submit an original piece under 10 minutes in length, with an emphasis on experimentation and boundary-pushing approaches. A panel of leaders, tastemakers and judges – including Alejandro Cohen (Executive Director, dublab), Gina Delvac (Head of Podcast Audience Lab, KCRW), Marshall Lewy (Chief Content Officer, Wondery), Ben Adair (Founder and Executive Producer, Western Sound), Christy Gressman (Vice President, Podcasts, Topic Studios) – will soon award 10 works with an honorarium, as well as the opportunity to showcase their piece for all the attendees of On Air Open House.

Reputation: I have a lot of emotions

Alright so the Saturday after Reputation came out, I bought the album on itunes because I loved the singles and because @itspileofgoodthings and @thelonelybrilliance have long been winning me over to Taylor Swift.  I spent the next two or three hours listening to the album, and Emma was amazing and listened to me freaking out.  However, I can’t not share my initial reactions with Maria, so girl, this transcript of my reactions is dedicated to you and Emma and I hope you enjoy!

1.  “Ready for It”

I wasn’t expecting Ready for It to be the first song but the name fits and honestly it is a GREAT choice because it has the cool intense intro thing idk what is that called a bass thing?  It is a great mix of the intensity and also the sweet breathless flowing faery melody

I don’t know how to talk about music

I just love it

2.  “End Game”

End Game isn’t my fave but I liked it “I wanna be your a-team” :) and the friendship between ed and taylor is sweet

3.  “I Did Something Bad”:

HOLY HECK  I LOVE I DID SOMETHING BAD WHAT NOW THE SOUND My JAM

I LOVE IT I DON’T EVEN KNOW WHAT TO SAY IT’S DELIGHTFUL AND LIKE I KNOW IT’S OVER THE TOP KINDA BUT THAT MAKES IT AMAZING “I DON’T REGRET IT ONE BIT BECAUSE HE HAD IT COMING AND I’D DO IT OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN” I LOVE THAT PART AND HOW IT DESCENDS AND DEEPENS

MAYBE SHE IS A WITCH AND MAYBE SHE ISN’T BUT HECK SIGN HER UP FOR THE BURNING

And my fave is that this is the same singer who in a few songs sings “Call It What You Want”

4.  “Don’t Blame Me”

It’s like the classic lady killer in love trope but reversed.  And I swear there are fictional characters out there I can connect this to but I have to think

OMG IT’S SO CATCHY AND I AM EVEN OK WITH HER SAYING I’M YOUR BABY EVEN THOUGH I USUALLY CAN’T STAND THAT TERM USED ROMANTICALLY

5.  “Delicate”

Delicate is so aptly named it is so tentative and fragile and that frightened feeling of “I think this is love?? Would you hate me if I told you that?”

6.  “Look What You Made Me Do”

I. LOVE. LOOK WHAT YOU MADE ME DO.  Despite the chorus, which is kind of bland and repetitive but the rest of the song is so freaking awesome like I don’t even care and I even sing along enthusiastically to it and maybe have started to appreciate it (the chorus).  

The song has the same delicious musical vibe as I did something bad.  It’s: don’t mess with me anymore, I am so done with y’all, I don’t even care anymore, I’m the nightmare now......except secretly underneath you know there IS caring for other people’s opinions and yearning to love and be loved and that makes it even better??

7.  “So It Goes”

I love the first verse best, the magician , the mesmerizing, the dark enchantment...and I say dark because I don’t know how I feel about the rest of the lyrics...but the SOUND is amazing and I am totally already making up a story in my head to reconcile my conflicted feelings because the music here and taylor’s voice and the whispered 1, 2, 3 have entranced me--like magic

8.  “Gorgeous”

Gorgeous....GORGEOUS!  WHISKEY ON ICE, SUNSET AND VINE, WHAT BEAUTIFUL EVOCATIVE IMAGERY!!!

I love Emma’s connection with her story Match, but also...don’t laugh too much...you know how I love Dick Grayson, and I feel this is literally how I would feel if I were in the same room with him.  Overwhelmed by his stupid pretty face and unable to function properly let alone say hello

Gorgeous is THE unexpected crush song, the oh my gosh I just met a masterpiece, the I don’t believe in love at first sight I mean I thought I didn’t, the I would literally die if you looked me in the eye because that would be a fairytale and if we actually fell in love I don’t know what I would do

THAT RING OF THE SPOON ON THE CHAMPAGNE GLASS (IN MY HEAD AT LEAST) IS A MAGICAL FAIRY BELL, OR MAYBE A FAIRY’S LAUGHTER, OR THE HERALD OF WEDDING RECEPTIONS AND CALLS FOR THE BRIDE AND GROOM TO KISS

IT’S THE IMAGINATION AND THE BIRTH OF CRAZY BEAUTIFUL HOPES

9.  “Getaway Car”

Did Taylor just riff off of A Tale of Two Cities??? And run with it?  I STRUCK A MATCH AND BLEW YOUR MIND

I CANNOT WITH THIS SONG UGH MY HEART this song is BEAUTIFUL and TRAGIC

It’s a love brilliant and glorious like a sun flare, its a desperate wish for something better than the stupid mistakes of the past and bitter fights and broken hearts

Like here she has met this wonderful nigh perfect man who is just as in love and ready as she is to jump in that car and leave the world and everything awful behind but which is more important the devastation they are fleeing from or the vision they dream of?

And whatever the answer to that is, it doesn’t matter because the future they hoped for in their hearts could be nothing more than an wish, a mirage, because as wonderful as both of them are, they are just not fated for each other, they just won’t love each other like they want to

And SHE LEFT HIM AND CALLS HERSELF A TRAITOR AND FEELS SHE DESERVES WHAT SHE GETS FOR THAT--THAT SHOT THROUGH THE HEART, THAT SHE FIRED

BUT IT ALSO HAD TO HAPPEN

AND IT IS THIS TANGLE OF VINES OF MISERY AND BEAUTY AND GRACE...YES GRACE BECAUSE AS MUCH AS THIS ALL MAKES ME WANT TO CRY THERE IS STILL A FEELING THAT DESPITE THE GRIEF AND HURT THIS ISN’T LIKE OTHER TIMES WHEN SHE HAS BROKEN UP WITH SOMEONE

BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT SO MUCH WRONG FOR EACH OTHER AS JUST NOT RIGHT FOR EACH OTHER

AND SO WHILE THE HURT IS SHARP IT IS NOT SO DEADLY TO LOVE IN GENERAL

Okay I have listened to it four times I need to move on

10.  “King of My Heart”

Ok maybe it’s just because I am coming down from Getaway Car but I am not as into King of My Heart at least music-wise.  The lyrics are sweet and precious though, just the sound doesn’t capture me like the rest of the rest of the songs

The term “King of My Heart” is a really beautiful term, styling the man as someone who not only has her love but also her respect...this is someone who does not need to impress her with fancy cars, he just needs to be him

My fave lyric: “Late in the night, the city’s asleep / Your love is a secret I’m hoping, dreaming, / dying to keep”

And you can just imagine sitting on a rooftop far far above the distant city lights, with the faint hum of traffic, and no one knows that your world has shifted and broken and been shaped into something new, and so you nestle the gift of his love in your heart and just wonder how in the world any of this is real

11.  “Dancing with Our Hands Tied”

DANCING WITH OUR HANDS TIED HURTS MY HEART.  IT HURTS BECAUSE IT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE A DOOMED LOVE AND SHE TRIED SO HARD TO IGNORE THE FORESIGHT SHE HAD

And she tried so hard to hold on

“My, my love had been frozen Deep blue, but you painted me golden Oh, and you held me close Oh, how was I to know what”

THIS.  THIS HURTS

Because it’s like he tried and it seemed like things could be good and beautiful, and there might be a chance for it all to work out, but it’s telling that he wasn’t able to change her, to unfreeze her love.  He only painted over it...gold yes, but paint nonetheless

Her certainty, “I knew” and then the telling truth “I had a bad feeling.”  Some things are too good to be true, too sweet to last when the bitter, callous, selfish world wants what it wants

“Can we dance / oh, through an avalanche” like what an impossible task, what a beautiful wish.  A love like that...would be everything.  Withstanding all the world together, no matter the wounds and hurt, picking each other up and moving on after every hit.  And it doesn’t seem to have worked out this time?  But maybe it will

12.  “Dress”

AAAAHHHHH DRESS IS REALLY PRETTY SOUNDING AND I LIKE CERTAIN OF THE LYRICS BUT UH I JUST CAN’T IT’S TOO MUCH

Slow down, girl :)  but also some of it is really cute.  I could maybe handle it better if she didn’t say she didn’t want him like a best friend because I need it to be both..ah well

On the other hand I love the lyrics to the verse about the flash back, and the lines “Even in my worst times, you could see the best of me” and they do expound upon friendship and love and make the Eros more palatable

13.  “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things”

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA i LOVE THIS IS WHY WE CAN’T HAVE NICE THINGS IT’S SO FUNNY

It moves past bitterness and is just like LOL yeah I’m not dealing with you, peace out, bye

*full out cackle* I CAN’T EVEN SAY IT WITH A STRAIGHT FACE I’M DYING

And it’s almost like she is talking to a little kid at one point.  Look, son, you break stuff I gotta take it away, when will you learn

14.  “Call It What You Want”

AND NOW WE MOVE ON TO MY FAVE.  CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT!  EVERYTHING IS HEALED!!!

After the ups and downs of the album, of life...everything still matters, still happened, previous loves and previous heart-wounds and previous sins but also none of it threatens her life anymore, her heart

“My castle crumbled overnight I brought a knife to a gunfight They took the crown but it’s alright All the liars are calling me one Nobody’s heard from me for months I’m doing better than I ever was”

THE MOST BRILLIANT JUXTAPOSITION

The songs begins with her home, her dreams destroyed, with her bad decisions open for the world to mock, with her crown kicked down a hill by detractors and fools and the wisest alike

But she says it is alright.  It’s okay.  And we wonder why?

People call her a liar, say she is fake, say whatever they think or want.  Maybe she is gone forever--who has seen Taylor at all, let alone knows who she really even is at this point...

And so we all think, maybe this is it.  Maybe Taylor is dead.

BUT ACTUALLY

SHE IS BETTER THAN SHE EVER WAS!!!!

the old Taylor is dead? I THINK NOT

She has merely walked (flown) down the path we all must take, and maybe she has stepped on more thorns or fallen to the dirt more often, maybe she has scraped knees and heart-blood seeping through her white sweaters, but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t found a life she happy to live, things worth fighting for, someone who will fight for her...someone who she doesn’t need to fight, only cherish

And so she can sing whatever the hell she wants, “I Did Something Bad” or “Getaway Car” or “Look What You Made Me Do” or “Gorgeous”

HE DOESN’T SEE HER WATCHING HIM BUT HE JUST WALKS TOWARD HER, SO FOCUSED, PROBABLY CAUGHT UP IN HOW MUCH HE LOVES HER, OR MAYBE THINKING OF NOTHING IMPORTANT BUT SHE JUST LOVES HIM SO MUCH AND IT’S LIKE WHEN YOU SEE SOMEONE DOING SOMETHING INSIGNIFICANT, LIKE YOUR MOM COOKING DINNER OR YOUR BROTHER BENT OVER HIS HOMEWORK AND YOU JUST GO “I FREAKING LOVE THIS PERSON”

Also OMG remember how in Dancing with Our Hands Tied her love was frozen?  HE DOESN’T PAINT HER TO LOOK BRIGHTER AND WARMER NO HE FREAKING BUILDS A FIRE TO WARM HER

“All the drama queens taking swings All the jokers dressing up as kings” THERE IS ONLY ONE KING OF HER HEART

Taylor Swift isn’t the first snake woman. She’s fighting misogyny’s favourite myth

It’s cool to hate Taylor Swift. She’s a social media pariah, the punchline of every meme, a living snake emoji. Her new single Look What You Made Me Dowas jeered into the charts , making it to number one and breaking records on its way. Her new album is to be a treatise on reputation, and boy could Swift deliver a TED talk on that subject. She’s become universally despised to the point where it’s taboo even to admit to feeling sorry for her. One is allowed to concede that 1989 had a few bangers but that’s the limit.

Swift became synonymous with the snake emoji thanks to one fateful subtweet by Kim K. Her spat with the Kardashian-Wests is what has earned her most of her bad reputation – she’s a liar who got what she deserved, right? Case closed. But it’s naive to think good old-fashioned karma is all that’s at play in the Swift saga.

Swift is not the first snake woman. Since the Old Testament, society has sought to discredit and vilify women by associating them with the scaly and the slithering. It’s the oldest trope in the book – from Eve to Medusa, the snake has always been a faithful misogynist device, used to destroy female reputation.

Celebrity culture is at best a lifelike simulation, at worst an outright fabrication. The general public can only guess at what really went on between Swift and West, and the entire incident may well have been a mutually beneficial publicity stunt. Yet it was seized upon with an unconcealed glee by the online horde that now collates and quantifies every female celebrity’s actions for moral evaluation – realistically, it was just the excuse they were looking for. Swift’s downfall was long awaited. She has been dismissed as a maneater who exploits her partners for Youtube hits and, in thatfamous diatribe, declared a calculating professional victim. We’re supposed to believe the powerful playboys she courts are blameless lambs.

Long before the West debacle, she was already branded a snake when she sent attorney’s letters to fans selling Swift merchandise and to her former guitar teacher for attempting to exploit her past. In a society that supposedly abhors the gender wage gap, one could be forgiven for thinking Swift’s unashamed defence of her intellectual property and rightful earnings to be admirable. Instead she was met with a vicious campaign of character assassination – evidence of her years of endless, painstaking kindnesstoward fans was buried in a sea of hate memes. People were determined to see her as false and traitorous.

The eagerness to scrutinise and condemn surfaced again when Swift made fumbled attempts at good feminist engagement. When trying to call out Nicki Minaj in a now infamous Twitter quarrel, she demonstrated ignorance of the intersection of race and feminism. Quickly realising her mistake, Swift listened, learned and apologised, which one might think was an exemplary response – but too late. The witch hunt was already under way.

In 2017, it is unacceptable for famous women to learn on the job – they must emerge from the womb with a complete working knowledge of intersectional feminism and if they don’t they apparently deserve a sustained campaign of online abuse. It’s hardly surprising that a year later, Swift backtracked on endorsing misogynist lyrics by West – she was likely terrified of making another misstep.

Swift made headlines again recently by suing her sexual abuser for a symbolic $1. She won with style, unapologetically asserting the wrongness of the abuse that was perpetrated on her but on the day of her victory, there was tumbleweed on the Taylor Swift hashtag. The online horde that has judged Swift for so long misses nothing, so the selective deafness on certain actions speaks volumes. Only the damning evidence is accepted as canon.

Regardless of what Swift does, she is accused of being a treacherous temptress. She’s always a snake. Her actions are incorporated into the narrative as an afterthought, perfunctory pieces of evidence to support an already foregone conclusion. Like all witch hunts, it’s trial by drowning. If you sink, you die, if you float – we kill you for being a witch, stupid. Hating her is the end in itself, and her response means nothing. She’s tried proudly owning her reputation, she’s tried parodying herself (see Blank Space and her LWYMMD video) but nothing works. Her reputation is set in stone regardless of her actions – but this is nothing new, for her or any famous woman.

Only 18 months ago, a different woman was synonymous with the snake – Hillary Clinton. Like Swift, she is not unproblematic – but next to Donald Trump should have been an easy choice as president. The public once again latched onto spurious nothings (in this case phantom emails) to magnify cracks in a woman’s character that would have been passed over in a man. No material evidence was even required for Clinton’s downfall – “woman as serpent” is so ingrained in society that we defaulted to it with only the most subtle encouragement. Her reputation was decided before facts. Once again, the snake reared its head and we all obediently hissed in unison.

The snake eating its own tail in Swift’s lyric video is a genius symbol for the hatred without any logical end or beginning; misogyny is always a self-fulfilling aim. It’s an infinitely repeating cycle – it wasn’t so many decades ago that Monica Lewinsky was the snake and Hillary Clinton was the contrasting archetype of purity. Before Swift, it was Lady Gaga or Lana Del Rey being slammed as fake and phony. Now they’ve miraculously fallen back into favour, but for how long? Women are swapped in and out of roles in the machinery of patriarchal society and its race to destroy them.

Swift’s new song is superficially crafted as a Kanye diss song, but the “tilted stage” Swift refers to is not West’s, it is ours. We, her audience of billions, are the ones who always leave her slipping off the edge. Swift’s imagery is too spine-tinglingly salient to be accidental – “you said the gun was mine” expertly captures the way the misogynist society conjures up incriminations to vilify, demonise and discredit women.

Swift knows she can’t win, so she is content to play up to whatever role will bring her temporarily back into favour – “I’ll be the actress, starring in your bad dreams”. Swift knows her reputation is out of her own hands. Yes, Swift’s new single is a diss track, but she’s dissing us. And we probably deserve it.

Ever since you talked with Daniel you couldn’t get the conversation out of your head. “Take care of yourself Y/N please” kept replaying in your head ever since he said it. You weren’t completely fine like you told him. Your friend and you went to get some food from a really good restaurant after a very exhausting event in Planica. You hardly ate anything so far and you were starving. Know how they say never go to the store hungry? The same thing applies to never ordering food when you’re hungry. You ordered two pizzas and two portions of American pancakes, one with blueberries and one with chocolate.

After twenty minutes the food was ready and you were teased the whole ride home with the smell of freshly made pizzas. The ride wasn’t long but right then and there it was just too much. Finally, you arrived to your friend’s house and got everything ready to eat. Friends episode was playing on the television and in your lap you had your pizza with tuna and pancakes. You knew you can’t even eat one whole pizza so let’s not talk about a whole pizza and a portion of pancakes. Both of you were tired so the only thing that could be heard was a few “mmm” and “so good” along with the voices of Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Phebe and Joey.

That night your friend went to sleep early. It was funny since you were always the one who went to sleep first and she was awake till midnight. You’re not saying you weren’t tired because you were, but somehow you couldn’t fall asleep. “Take care of yourself Y/N please” kept repeating in your head and even the way he was looking at you like you were going to crumble down any second. His eyes were worried but somehow loving. “Don’t let him mess with your head again Y/N” You said out loud to yourself. “I’m fine, everything is okay. No need to worry.” You were trying to calm down your thoughts. But deep down you knew that wasn’t true. Ever since he left you, you didn’t know what to do with yourself. Yes, you had a job and things to do but you weren’t who you were before. Your family and friends noticed that and began to be more attentive to you but they weren’t who you needed. You lost your appetite and lost weight, not much since you were skinny anyways but it was noticeable.

He was your first serious boyfriend and before him you were very organized, independent and you could take care of yourself. But then he came along and everything changed. You got too attached and used to always having him a call away if anything happened and now suddenly he was taken away.

With everything else you were strong but dealing with this break-up you figured out that you have a weakness and that was him. He was with you at the time that you lost your grandfather and with his help you handled it in the best way possible. He was your source of strength. And now you had to become your own. It wasn’t easy but you though you‘ve got this.

You’ve looked at your phone to see that’s the time. It was already 11PM and you still weren’t sleeping. Somehow you managed to fall asleep and slept like a baby till the next morning.

Planica was over and the season ended. You felt a small relieve since you knew you weren’t going to see Daniel’s face every weekend on the television for some time.

You needed something to distract you so your friends decided to have a little get together in your family’s weekend house. They got everything you needed from food, music, drinks and sleepover clothes. For this occasion, they went over the top and you all got matching pyjama shorts and top. The party started and after one drink thing got a bit wild. You weren’t drunk, far from that you just got a bit of courage to do things you normally weren’t comfortable with.

You were playing songs and singing along until Justin Bieber’s song came on. You weren’t ashamed to admit that his album Purpose was downloaded on your phone. From `Sorry´ to `Love yourself´ you found yourself singing and dancing along. His song that described your situation all too well. “Where are you now that I need ya? Couldn’t find you anywhere. When you broke down I didn’t leave ya, I was by your side So where are you now that I need ya?” You sang and then did some weird dancing. You loved the song not solely based on the lyrics but because the beat and the melody was really catchy. Someone else got a hold of the phone that was playing the music and after a few songs we ended up listening to Taylor Swift’s music. That wasn’t a very good sign. From `I knew you were trouble´ to `Style` and `We are never ever getting back together´. The most important thing was that you were having a good time and you and you had all good friends together after a long time.

You all went to sleep in the early hours of the next day and were tired from dancing. Some of you even had sore throats but it was all for a good cause. You looked on your phone to see the time but you were looking at your lock screen that was full with notifications from Twitter and Instagram. “What the hell?” You said with your groggy morning voice. “What” your friend next to you asked even more confused. “My twitter and Instagram mentions are blowing up.” You were clicking so fast on your phone and when you saw what caused all that almost made you drop your phone. “No, no, no, no.” – “What Y/N? What’s going on?” You closed your eyes trying to calm down and get some oxygen in your brain so you could think straight. “Someone recorded me on snapchat dancing to Justin Bieber’s song `Where are U now´ and then to Taylor Swift’s song `I knew you were trouble´. On my snapchat where I have some of Daniel’s fans and they put that on `My story´ and they put that online. I guess Daniel saw that and tweeted lyrics from another song from Taylor Swift and people are going crazy.” You said putting your phone down and bringing your hands to your face. “Show me” Your friend said and you gave her your phone. “Daniel Andre Tande: what you’re looking for has been here the whole time. why can’t you see you belong to me.” She read her face looking more shocked with every word she read. “You know what this means right, Y/N?” She asked you with a small smile. You were too afraid to say anything since it was all too much. Since you kept quiet she took that as a no. “He still loves you.”

Los Angeles’s Baker to the Rich and Famous Shares Her Chocolate Chocolate Teacake with Pursuitist

Artisanal bakeries are the current kings of the gourmet food scene, even in bread-phobic Los Angeles where the rich and famous famously watch out for their waistlines. And there’s no L.A. baker more acclaimed than Zoe Nathan, who opened Huckleberry Café and Bakery five years ago with her restaurateur husband Josh Loeb, in celebrity-central Santa Monica. Every day since, their display case has been piled high with fresh organic breads, rustic pastries, savory tarts and oodles of cookies to tempt crowds who indulge in Nathan’s extraordinary sweet treats after coming in for a healthy Romanesco Frittata for breakfast or tender brisket hash and roast chicken for lunch.

Wholesome foodie fans include regulars Jennifer Garner, Reese Witherspoon, Taylor Swift, and Gwyeth Paltrow who says Nathan’s “rustic, delicious food (is) a staple in my house.” Elijah Wood singles out her “ridiculously delicious” salted caramel squares, and Bear Grylls raves that Huckleberry is his “favorite restaurant in the world.” We tend to believe him since, coincidentally, Bear named his son Huckleberry.

After receiving such applause, it was inevitable that L.A.’s celebrity baker become an author with her first cookbook: “Huckleberry: Stories, Secrets, and Recipes from Our Kitchen” (Chronicle Books). With 288 pages of recipes and nearly 150 photos by Matt Armendariz, the book finally shares Huckleberry’s recipes, re-proportioned for home bakers. “Giving something you made to someone you love is just about the best feeling in the world,” says Nathan.

In that spirit, Zoe Nathan and Chronicle Books gave us permission to share her rich Chocolate Chocolate Teacake recipe with Pursuitist readers. Resistance is futile.

CHOCOLATE CHOCOLATE TEACAKE Makes one 9-by-5-inch loaf.

¾ cup pastry flour 6 tbsp. all-purpose flour 6 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa powder 1 tsp. baking powder ¾ tsp. baking soda ½ cup strong brewed coffee, cooled ½ cup buttermilk 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1 ¾ cups coarsely chopped dark chocolate, 60 to 70% cacao ½ cup + 2 tbsp. unsalted butter, cubed, at room temperature 1 cup + 2 tbsp. sugar ½ tsp. kosher salt 3 eggs Powdered sugar for topping (optional)

1. Position a rack in the middle of your oven and preheat to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9-5-in loaf pan. 2. Sift together the pastry flour, all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and baking soda. Set aside. 3. Combine the coffee, buttermilk, and vanilla. Set aside. Melt ¾ cup of the chocolate gently over a double boiler or in a small bowl set over a small saucepan of simmering water. Remove the pan from the heat, but leave the chocolate over the double boiler to keep warm while you mix the cake. 4. In a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream the butter, sugar, and salt on medium-high speed until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes. Incorporate the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Be sure to scrape the sides of the bowl well. Pause mixing and add the flour mixture. Mix just until incorporated. With the mixer on low speed, pour in the coffee mixture. Fold in both the melted and chopped chocolate. 5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 55 minutes, or until a cake tester comes out clean. Do not overbake! Allow to cool completely. 6. Place a flat plate on top of the cake and pan. Carefully invert the cake onto the plate by flipping both upside down. Then lift the pan off the cake. Rest your serving plate on the bottom of the cake and turn the cake right-side up onto the plate. Once cooled, top with powdered sugar, if desired. This keeps beautifully, tightly wrapped, at room temperature, for up to 4 days.
