im watching a playthrough of Dangan Ronpa (the third game) with my partner and i have thoughts. its definitely one of those things that were ruined by a fandom because they were too young for it. dont get me wrong, the characters are so out-there and unique they lend themselves to be perfect shipping war candidates, but there is seriously a wealth of artistic value to the games. watching through it ive been delighted with the artistic direction and sound design. the OST is dripping with personality and whimsy. its all around a fucking hoot to watch. its goofy and leans into the absurdity of it's setting without sacrificing sincere moments of the story. the murder mysteries are solid and engaging. Monokuma and his kubs are the stupidest motherfuckers ive ever seen and are hilarious whenever they show up. Ouma is there. ive had the most fun interpreting the ultimates as different flavours of neurodivergent and even if their role is short (i.e. theyre an early game victim/culprit) they have complexities. DR is genuinely cool as hell, if youve ever been interested in it i recommend tackling the playthroughs to enjoy the art of it - there really is nothing like it and i think we're all grown up enough to see the beauty in the absurd.

the arrival of the Monokubs at a non-despair HPA causes a lot of chaos, as everyone thinks Junko built the kubs to make fun of them specifically. in fact, Junko didn't build the kubs at all, but she lets them "live" because their existence causes everyone despair (including her and her favorite son, Monokuma)

this may be a sin to some, but i actually prefer Miu and Keebo to have a brother-sister relationship, where Miu gets to dote on her Stupid little robot brother and give him Equally Stupid upgrades. (yes, i know there's a sexual element to a lot of how they interact in canon, but i like to think that's before she really knows how to Treat People Normally. it evens out Eventually, although she still asks him from time to time if he wants [INSERT SOMETHING ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING HERE] so he can "get with some bitches or Ouma or whoever the fuck")

speaking of Miu, she still watches Saturday morning cartoons with sugary cereal every morning. if you interrupt her Genius Routine she can't function and blames you for depriving the World of the things she could have made that day

Hajime often discovers memes about 5 years too late and tries to use them to befriend others. it's charming, a bit. he still thinks Rickrolling is funny. this is less charming

Sakura does not participate in social media with one exception: she loves TikToks of animals being silly, cats especially, and bonds with Ryoma and many others over this. it's one of the first inroads she has with people

BONUS: during the main timeline events, it's Hina who observes AI Chiaki and bashfully, carefully, eyes cast down to the floor, asks Makoto if there's any chance they could use the same Technology to bring back their friends, too. "at least...the friends we still have a piece of." but as she watches the NWP she knows it will only cause her more grief: AI Chiaki was not the original Chiaki, and an AI Sakura would be less than a ghost. the true Sakura would not want to dwell on the past...even if the impulse is there. instead, Hina becomes friends with Alter Ego, and understands the importance of a legacy vs cyber-necromancy thru AE's insistence that he is more like Chihiro's son, not Chihiro

Here's a DR Demix question that I have regarding the Monokuma Kubs & the Warriors of Hope since I haven't heard anything about them in this AU. Do they by any chance swap with each other like the Li'l Ultimates become Usowa babies (Or whatever baby bunnies are called.) & the Kubs are now human kids working under Taka?

You've hit it right on the head! The Li'l ultimates in this au swap with the Monokubs in DrV3, with the Monokubs getting their own swanky humanized forms (design still TBA for now) with each color Monokub swapping with the equivalent, or similar, colored WoH member.

Rather than a group of poorly-taught kids, these "Enforcers of Despair" are a group of university burn-outs, cruel outcasted losers who find an erroneous purpose and freedom by serving as Kiyotaka's successors in his absence, continuing his will and serving his perverted view of law, peace, and justice. Together, they are in charge of the conquering one of the last shreds of resistance against Taka's new world order: an isolated mountain haven called Jabberwock Village.

They have a particularly strong hatred for children and the meek, with special orders to completely stamp out the childlike glee in all children. Replacing it with unquestioning obedience to authority and rigidity.

In the order they appear:

Hantaro (Monotaro) is the first. A naive and forgetful dullard, but dedicated and unshakably loyal. Hantaro is completely invested in the cause in earnest, for reasons that he may have trouble remembering, but believes in nonetheless.

Seinsouke (Monosuke) is the second. A selfish and rude brute, whose shrewdness is only matched by his greed. Seinosuke is not a believer in the cause for any real ideological reason. He simply sees it as a means to amass more and more wealth.

Stephanie (Monophanie) is the third. Airheaded and unassuming, but carries a manipulative streak that belies a deeper intelligence. Stephanie is another believer of the cause, one who willfully blinds herself into seeing only the good in Taka's reign and seeks to preserve it.

Touma (Monokid) is the fourth. Cruel, untamed, and of an unmatched physicality that makes him the perfect enforcer. Touma sees the world as his playground, and Taka's system has enabled him to live in it without stupid limiting rules and limitations, bullying and terrorizing all he sees fit.

Adamu (Monodam) is the final of the enforcers. Patient, unfeeling, brilliant. Adamu has no loyalty to the cause. Not anymore. Not after Taka's death exposed it for what it really is: a weak, imperfect vision of the future that will inevitably end in a fall. A vision that he will perfect and replace.

As for their V3 equivalents, the bunnies will be known as the something-chowa, still nothing concrete on these, but their names are: Masachowa, Nagichowa, Monachowa, Jatachowa, and Kotochowa. They're a bunch of rebellious kids that Usowa wants to whip into shape.

Okay so it's been a hot minute since I read your fics(I should reread them soon) but the fics/parts that stick out to me is.

That part in the chapter 5 fic where Kaito saves Kokichi, where Kaito gives Kokichi the makeshift antidote and he almost dies.

That soulmate chapter 5 fic with the kiss and color.

The introductions in twins au(specifically Mui and Gonta's), and the part where Monokuma starts beating up the kubs and Kokichi comforts Kurochi.

That part where the warriors of hope tend to Kokichi's wound.

That Kokichi Kurochi hotel fic where Kokichi reveals that secret.

Oh and the part in your wanderer fic when he sees his memories, specifically that scene where he starts panicking due to seeing how a certain doctor treated him.

Okay, let's go through them one by one!

How to Stay Behind the Doors of Life - One of the first RPs turned into fanfic, I cannot talk about this without giving @aroseandapen credit here too! While I did ficify it, my favorite part of it was actually roleplaying it. Writing with L is extremely fun, 10/10 I highly recommend

Our Colorless World - This fic!!! I sometimes come back to this fic, and I just. Oof. This fic was fun to write because it's one of the few times where I technically wrote a tragic ending instead of a happy one. Fun fact: If I ever write a tragic ending, I always imagine an AU extension of the ending where the fic continues and it's revealed that everyone's alive and they get a chance to heal from the Trauma. In this fic's case, it's a VRAU and Kaito has to win over Kokichi after realizing their soulmates. ANYWAY. My favorite part to write for this fic was probably Kokichi's story about the boy under the yellow slide up until the end. Just, so much oof that Kokichi knew his own soulmate hated his guts and thought he was the worst person in existence...... and still hoping (but not expecting) a second kiss from the person he was bound to. There's a lot of tragedy in this fic hhhhhh

Danganronpa V3R: Graduation - Twins AU, Twins AU! I knew this one would come up, hueueueue. Twins AU has a special place in my heart and forever will, and I really aim to one day complete and post the fic in full. While Twins AU had a lot of RPing done with L, I actually think my favorite part to write (and subsequently, to reread) was the introduction of the fic itself. I tend to go hard with surreal imagery and I think that it's one of my strong suits in writing--so of course to this day the introduction of Twins AU is such fire that I can barely hold it without burning myself from how much I love it. I'm currently editing Twins AU's prologue and what little I had done for chapter 1, so hopefully the scene is even better now!

A Change of Fate - Hey, this is the commission you got from me! I had a feeling you might bring this one up too~ Writing this fic was overall a very interesting change of pace as I was HEAVILY in the Genshin Fixation at the time--I think I ended up putting this fic on hold for a long time in favor of "Chasing the Voided Moon" actually (I'm still sorry for that, the fixation wheel refused to free me--) and tbh it did remind me that I love the Twins so very much. I think my favorite part to write was when Junko appeared--there's something very cathartic about writing a really chaotic evil character, not gonna lie. But I also liked how Kokichi was acting during that confrontation--it was overall a great interaction.

Can you really call this a Hotel, there weren't even Mints on the Pillows - To this date this fic has the LONGEST name, and I love that for it. The chapter you're talking about was really fun to RP and ficify, too! Kokichi finally revealing that he saw Kurochi's half-written suicide note is oof. However, I think that the Korekiyo chapter deserves some credit too, since it does change the context of the LSE to one of BDSM and consent than... whatever the fuck canon was trying to do LMAO. Still, this is ALSO a fic I plan on continuing for Twins AU! I even think I know which character will appear in the next chapter >:3

Chasing the Voided Moon - The fact that you've read this fic and enjoyed it even without knowing much context for Genshin is a thing I take GREAT pride in. Though it's actually interesting that you chose that scene in particular, since the favorite scenes of that fic are often chapter 12 and chapter 16. Yet I think you're right in that there is a haunting, disgusting revelation in that chapter that is never spoken, but doesn't need to be spoken. The fact that it is canon that Wanderer's body was mutilated to the point where the big robot he was put in was his life support and his initial reaction to the idea being "Yeah that sounds about the same as what Dottore's done to me before" is. Honestly the fact that Scaramouche theorists on YT miss the severe torture/abuse implications of that scene in canon alone is staggering. It's definitely not a top favorite of the fanfic, but it really does highlight that Scaramouche didn't just suffer three really bad instances of trauma and nothing else happened to him--he endured so much off screen that was so heavily implied, and who knows how much for how long. Anyway murder maim kill Dottore. Though as for my favorite par to write... I'm sorry to say, it is chapter 16 :'D I went hard on that chapter and I'm very proud of it. Chapter 12 too, but I prefer catharsis over pure angst tbh.

I love your art for the Gopher Project AU! We need more of the space adventure fun! I actually made a server not long ago for this exact AU! So my question to you is, do the kubs still exist? For nondespair I decided that Usami would be in charge and the 'monokubs' were now the 'monobuns'! Take after rabbits and while their fur is now all white, their clothing now are in charge of representing their colors! Their ears would be different variants too!

so, for my au, it kind of depends on which canon? for non despair, no! the gopher project in a non despair setting would be completely separated from team DR and it’s robots n characters, even the AI running the ship would have zero relation to the kubs/monokuma/usami etc. im honestly still trying to decide if DR would exist all together in the non despair version…

and for the killing game version, they would!! their designs/personalities wouldn’t be all that different though in mine, i feel like the kubs would have cute little spacesuits like everyone else despite not needing them LMAOO same w monokuma!! it’d be a situation where tsumugi somehow snuck the kubs n kuma on board through her luggage and they make their way to the main ship. she uses some program to take out the original ships AI and replaces it w a monokuma virus, to swerve the ship off its original path and stop any one from going outside the ship or taking emergency pods, and also to encourage the commencing of the killing game (though monokuma surely does so himself without the help of a virus) i feel like in a killing game setting on a ship like this itd be so much more dreary… no proper day and night cycles, no concept of time… and no world to go back to..

Before I say what I want to say, I want to be clear that I have a dissociative disorder and a system, which is where I'm coming from with this.

The more I've thought about the monokubs as alters and being connected to kokichi I realize it makes more sense for him to have a dissociative disorder than for him...not to...

He blatantly shows us that he's able to heavily compartmentalize his emotions and "switch" them on and off seemingly instantly. You don't have that ability without having some level of a dissociative disorder, regardless of if he's part of a system.

I'm currently watching another let's play as it's being posted so if you'd like to hear my thoughts on this as I rewatch the game under this lens I'll happily keep notes and share periodically!

(short one gaming on YT, def recommend checking them out bc they usually play games as a duo where one of them is familiar with the game and the other isn't which leads to a lot of interesting moments, and both of them work professionally on games and are imo also good voice actors for the let's plays)

In DR world we've seen 'big brain talents' reach quite an extreme. Junko's alone would be downright impossible in our reality, and could cause its own variation of brain-mess like a cognitive overload, which for her involved a lot of 'personality switching'. That's just me spitballing anyway- cognition-whatsits involved with supernatural talents is something I like to crack at now and then (I forget if they addressed this lore in DR0...), but if Ouma (who we see ingame I mean) theoretically does not have a talent of that sort you could say he has a dissociation situation instead :0

Anyway this is interesting! I normally see psych theories focused on his lying rather than his emotions in specific. Thank you for sharing, feel free to send more at me if you want!

The kubs and Mother says their goodbyes one more time as the kubs leaves for FF HQ. Motherkuma waves goodbye to her kubs as the boy in black comes out of the darkness across the street.*

"Sending your children off to fight me alone, huh?"

"My kubs are safe. That's all that matters." *She snaps her fingers as many monobots appears, surrounding Achlys.* "I don't know why you're doing this, and i don't care. I'm taking you out and getting Shiro and Kid back."

"Well in that case, bring it on."

"Gladly.......KILL HIM!" *The monobots charges at Achlys as he draws his sword.*

O-Ok Monophanie...You tell Shirogane that we failed to kill Akamatsu with the Exisal’s, and I’ll tell her that Monodam betrayed us and is working with her now.

Who’s gonna tell her that Monosuke was killed by her and that Monokid’s Exisal has been compromised...!?

Uuuuuh...I dunno...Scissors Paper Rock for it?

How are we going to do that!? We don’t have fingers!

Ugh! It’s starting!

What is it? Whatever news you’ve brought forward had better be good.

L-Like we said...! We thought Monodam had killed Akamatsu, but then he apparently started speaking against Zetsubou’s ideals, so Monosuke was forced to shut him down!

But Akamatsu saved him, and now Monodam is fighting on her side! The AI she’s with also compromised Monokid’s Exisal, so now she’s got two Exisal’s and her super spear, against just the two of us!

AI huh? I think they might be referring to Sora on that one.

Sora, huh? That’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time.

*The other members of Organization Zetsubou actually sit with Tsumugi as she talks to the Monokubs, sans Celeste, Nagito and Mikihiko.

Narumi’s battle-hungry antics aside, I gotta agree. The problem isn’t that Akamatsu isn’t a threat, because she’s proven that she very much is.

It’s just...she seems to be a relatively minor one compared to the likes of Sakura Ogami, Hajime Hinata and Kuripa Kurafto, which we’ve also had to contend with. And yet right now, she seems to be everybody’s priority.

Correction: She’s not everybody’s priority. But she automatically becomes everyone’s focus because she’s solely Shirogane’s priority.

“A Ton of Monokuma’s” in terms of power, are equivalent to that of one Exisal. Akamatsu has already proven she’s capable of taking them down, AND she has two at her disposal. It won’t be of much use.

So what’s the plan?

The plan is I’m going to send someone I ACTUALLY can trust into the lab to eliminate her and her little battalion she’s got accompanying her, not to mention I’ll have to slaughter that traitorous Monokub too.

What confuses me is that we do not even know Shirogane’s motive. She’s obviously completely serious about wanting to kill Kaede Akamatsu, but isn’t telling anyone, not even us, why she desires such a thing?

Like I was saying, Akamatsu’s not nearly dangerous enough, so even if Mugimu thought she would be a problem later, I don’t really get it.

So the real question is...What is she so afraid of?

This is just a silly theory but its possible that in v3 even the characters' "pregame" selves are a fabrication. The "team danganronpa" intro only has irl dr content, Tsumugi never cosplays from the supposed other seasons, and initially in the prologue Kaede wakes up with "no knowledge of who she is" and has similar symptoms (headache etc.) post talent flashback light. Also the kubs act like theyre the amnesiac students from the ult hunt storyline. However, they still recognise monokuma branding

definitely possible, anon!! v3's prologue and epilogue are deliberately very vague so players can interpret them however they like (a writing choice i've never been that fond of, but it did prepare me for fnaf lore...) if the audition tapes are real, then the characters have *definitely* had their memories edited before the prologue, since they remember being kidnapped, not signing up.

*i've* always chosen to interpret kaede's no sound, no voice, no light, no form, no knowledge of who i am speech as the moment before the vr simulation loaded in, for example! there's so many options. although i wouldn't use tsumugi only cosplaying previously-seen dr characters as evidence - kodaka says in the artbook he wanted her to do more, but he was constrained by budget hpasjdhg.

revived ultimate stuff

this'll prolly be added to my au doc but just in case it isnt heres the info (feel free to send asks :]!)

the reset only affected v3. i'm unsure if this'll be changed later but for now its only v3

the reveal of ch6 isn't canon to the reset, everyone is actually who they are, no show or anything

there's probably a faint bloodstain on the floor in front of the school lol

there aren't 'ultimates,' everyone is just really good in a particular field

the hidden bookcase room is untouched, and no one is aware of it. there's extra precautions on it so no one can stumble on it, but otherwise, its looks just like it did prior to the events of the game

there is no evidence of the killing game. kokichi's room is still a mess, but it consists of random items he stole across the school, for little to no reason

everyone's ultimate room is referred to as their personal rooms, and look pretty much the same. rantaro's is the only one to look different, instead reflecting themes of travel

there are elevators across the school and a nurse's office. the elevators are for everyone's use, and at least one leads all the way up to the top floor. monokuma will always show up dressed as a nurse in the nurse's office. its a unpleasant experience for whoever entered

despite there being no killing game, there still isn't a actual school semester, nor a dating game, monokuma just lets everyone run around the school doing whatever, as long as it doesn't break any rules

the kubs still show up at random to chat, announcing themselves every time

the students don't remember where they lived, so it isn't too much of a bother that they cant leave

shuichi tends to follow kaede around, though he does do activities on his own or with kaito and maki

mainly, he still trains with the two at night

he's getting stronger

students who died during the killing game were revived with related health issues after the reset

students who bled upon death will sometimes bleed from the scars left behind, confusing them greatly

rantaro won't usually notice if he's bleeding as the pain blends in and he fails to register the feeling of blood

kokichi won't notice his back or arm bleeding for the same reason, but he will notice if his head bleeds as the blood drips into his eyes and mouth

rantaro and kokichi have memory issues

students who were culprits will become wary by those they killed/think they killed

if the victim is aware who killed them, the feeling is returned

students who were victims are wary in rooms they died in

rantaro constantly has bad headaches that range from 'somewhat manageable' to 'cannot focus at all'

rantaro's headaches usually keep him up at night so sometimes he dozes off in random places across the school (he's also often seen against a wall with his head buried in his arms)

this combined with his occasional bleeding will make it look like he's dead

kokichi enjoys lying on the floor face down when his head starts bleeding

kokichi's cane and chair has stickers on it from himself and the kubs

students tend to leave rantaro alone when they find him asleep, unless he's bleeding, to where they either wake him up, or attempt to bandage him while he's asleep

students who were culprits have nightmares about their executions. kaede will read books about music when she can't sleep due to them

kaede and miu have issues breathing and loose their breath easily

ryoma has minor headaches every now and again, alongside angie

he also immediately starts drowning in water

kirumi is just as dedicated to being a maid despite the occasional stabbing pain throughout her body

angie and tenko have neck pains, and they will notice if the scars on their necks start bleeding

kiyo and gonta are always really warm. gonta is also a target to be stung, but it doesn't make him like insects any less

kaito usually has a cold or flu, very rarely will he cough up blood

kokichi's entire body is in pain, he has scars on his back, arm, and head, and his body right below the arms will sometimes go out without warning. he also can't walk well without support, and needs something to lean on in order to stand

the kubs don't have the same associated emotions when it comes to dying pre-reset. they view each other the same as they did prior to the game starting. monosuke and monokid don't feel wary around monodam the same way kaede feels wary around rantaro

the kubs like snuggling with students should they find them sleeping around campus (though most of them wont admit it)

kokichi has been caught attempting to balance in his chair to reach things numerous times

kokichi will sometimes see gonta strangling miu if he's alone in the room with them. he'll then collapse

tsumugi was not brought back

The only one even remotely likeable is the robot personality one and that's because I'm pretty sure they don't pull any weird shit

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure they're also one of the first 2 kubs to die.

yeah if memory serves monodam died in ch2 Best Monokuma look alike is Monomi hands down I love Monomi so much
