In ‘Wednesday,’ Jenna Ortega makes Netflix’s Addams Family series look like a snap | CNN
CNN
—
Although the main character’s name was inspired by the poetic line “Wednesday’s child is full of woe,” “Wednesday” is generally a delight, thanks almost entirely to Jenna Ortega. Having outgrown her Disney Channel days, Ortega makes the Addams Family’s now-high-school-age daughter the coolest humorless goth sociopath you’ll ever meet, in a Netflix series that’s more kooky than spooky or…

Finding a star for ‘Wednesday’ who embodies ‘Family’ values with her own kooky twist | CNN
CNN

There was a lot riding on the casting choice for the titular character of the new Netfilx series “Wednesday.” In addition to someone who could pull off creepy, kooky, mysterious and spooky, the role of raven-haired, pigtail-braided Wednesday Addams needed to go to a young actress who could rise to the occasion of playing a character from such an iconic property.
“It’s always a little…

if yall haven't seen it already, i super recommend this ongoing youtube series by the movie rabbit hole that unravels a lot of those instances where a movie claims to "have zero CGI". it really uplifts the knowledge that practical effects and CGI really go hand in hand, except that the CGI side is often left in the dust when it comes to acknowledging the work that goes into making these bombastic movies.
this is the first video, where he discusses multiple movies but mainly top gun maverick, one of said movies that claims it has no CGI.
the second video just came out, and focuses on christopher nolan movies, another set of movies that people claim have very little CGI.
in the future, i believe he also plans to cover the injustice that stunt performers often face, which is related to this topic. in pursuit of being able to say a movie "has no CGI whatsoever!" or that an actor "did all their own stunts!", you end up leaving out the CG artists and stunt performers, very important parts of the industry that are often hardly acknowledged while everyone goes nuts over how real and authentic the movie is. movies are a team effort! let's not leave anyone behind! especially not the people whom the movies literally could not be made without!

Will Queer Subtext Survive in Contemporary Media?
This video covers how broad issues with entertainment media, particularly Hollywood and Western television, are affecting directors and writers in their attempts to tackle queer representation—especially how they employ queer subtext.
We are witnessing the disappearance of subtext (the implicit) and, progressively, the disappearance of even explicit metaphors.
Issues such as the unforgiving pace of streaming platforms, Hollywood’s heteronormative standards, a decline in media comprehension, and uninspired writers are now blatantly palpable to the audience as we witness the demise of the Western film and television industry.
The video is not a dissertation! Given that this is a fairly new development in entertainment media, the video invites a discussion. Please let me know what you think! (And please be mindful if you engage with others.)
I apologize for the grammar slips; I’ve spoken primarily Portuguese lately 💛

'Glass Onion' sharpens the 'Knives Out' formula in a polished Netflix sequel | CNN
‘Glass Onion’ sharpens the ‘Knives Out’ formula in a polished Netflix sequel | CNN
CNN

Rising to the challenge of matching its successful predecessor, “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” maintains the razor-sharp formula, with a setup that feels even more conspicuously like an Agatha Christie homage before an extremely clever series of twists kick in. Writer-director Rian Johnson again assembles a solid cast behind Daniel Craig, but it’s his use of language – where nary a…

One of the things I love about Glass Onion is the way that the camera and music work together to tell nonverbal jokes.
Like when Benoit basically has to hold Miles' hand to get him to the conclusion that someone reset the puzzle box Benoit lies about receiving:
Benoit asks if it's possible that someone reset the box, and Miles then declares that someone must have reset the box like it is this huge reveal - and the camera zooms out while the music subtly swells as though he really has figured out something smart, when actually he literally restated what Benoit just said.

Owen Davis - Untitled Ukavar (2017). This album made by me was originally recorded in 2010 and was inspired by two notorious "Video Nasty" Cult horror classics, Nightmares In A Damaged Brain AKA Nightmare (1981) & Pieces (1982) which are 2 of my favorite slashers. Track 8 was first originally unreleased and omitted from UU until recently in 2013 where it was re-added and subsequently released on a compilation album titled SLASHER (a Horror movie-themed concept album with Various Artists affiliated in the Noise scene) by Static Wall Recordings. The genres for this specific release are: Noise, Industrial, Drone, Power Electronics, Death Industrial, as well as Dark Ambient. The front cover artwork is also made by me too. There is going to be a very limited CDr release of this with two extra tracks that are not available on the digital download, please PM me for details.

Quentin Tarantino has made it clear that Marvel movies are not his cup of tea, but actor Simu Liu has kindly reminded the director that the films and the studio behind them have provided underrepresented communities a chance to be seen on the big screen unlike ever before.
“If the only gatekeepers to movie stardom came from Tarantino and Scorsese, I would never have had the opportunity…
