Part 4 of ??? of my series of redrawing Twin Peaks as if Satoshi Kon made a 90's anime adaptation.
I know there are so many horrifying moments in Twin Peaks but for me this was so jarring and shocking I knew I had to include it for this project (and also the spookiest month of the year). Because even all these years later after seeing it, it still gives me chills. Frankly I was completely creeped out the entire time drawing it...
The idea of a character who embodies light, and whimsy, and altruism, being twisted beyond recognition is truly terrifying, such a huge cliffhanger.
In a lot of ways this moment felt very eerie and similar to both the literal visuals as well as the sensation of later seeing the bloody 'faux Mima' near the end of Perfect Blue. Where the dream instead takes on a nightmare quality for it's surrealism.
(also still mind-blown this was Frank Silva's first acting role)
Screencap under the cut as well as two shots from Perfect Blue for comparison's sake.

Day One Hundred Seventy-One
The seniors played a their prank last night by having a sleepover in the parking lot. We saw the remnants when we drove in: cars scattered everywhere, kids with blankets a sleeping bags, a few campers, and one group of girls having breakfast in a circle of camp chairs they'd set up in my parking spot and Mr. C's- and one of them had brought her dog! I laughed, told them to enjoy their coffee and bagels, and found another spot to put my car.
It's a good prank, and I wish it had all been harmless fun. But. Apparently there were empty alcohol containers found in the woods around campus, and some other things that should not have happened, sooooo some folks are going to be in pretty serious trouble (our parking lots have security cameras on them).
It's too bad because, y'know, way to ruin something that could've just been a laugh.
Anyways.
My Global Studies classes today were a blast. After I handed back graded on-demand essays and talked about those for a bit, I transitioned into brainstorming for the multi-genre project. I asked students to tell me what's going on in the world right now, and they immediately started giving my topic ideas. I'm saying, they absolutely lit up, I could barely keep up with them. And then? They got really competitive. My first section came up with 50 topics, so my second had to beat that and came up with 86. My third? Got a full 100. It's impressive to see when it's all up on my whiteboard.
And it gave them lots of options. They all chose the topics they wanted to research, planned out the types of pieces they want to create (some amazing ideas already!) and started working. I like that I added the step of project planning- did that last year- because it really sets them up well for the next two weeks.
They're excited about this, I'm excited to see what they create. Engagement and rigor in June? Heck yeah.

the way i've dreamt about my 5th grade teacher since..i wanna say 2013/2014 (whenever i started 7th grade), it's crazy.
they're even more sexual, kinda like "hidden/forbidden love" type of thing; idk if i'll ever stop dreaming of him cause i miss him?? i miss being that kid always excited to actually be in a classroom because of him...
he looked so happy that quiet morning, was very touched too. already knew right then and there i was on his list of "favorite students" 🥰
to this day, he's the ONLY teacher i've ever gotten him something for his birthday. it was a big chocolate cupcake..cake lol had green frosting and i think chocolate chips on top.
i miss him, terribly
*he's not dead lmao, he's at the same school, now teaching 1st graders*

But now it's gone...
I had a lucid dream a few weeks ago. Lucid dreams are quite rare. I think I've only had about four of them in my nearly sixty years of life.
In the dream, I went out for a walk at sundown. There was a forest right outside my home, with streams of clear water, pine trees, moss, and tiny white mushrooms everywhere. I could have lingered there forever, but I saw a deer staring at me, and when the deer moved away, I decided to follow it. The deer led me out of the forest to a highway, and then to a neighborhood. By this time, it was almost dark, and the houses and street lamps lit up. Then the strangest thing happened: the deer shapeshifted into the see-through shadow of a man and asked if he could walk with me. Instead of feeling afraid, I actually felt safe with him, so I told him it was fine. After a few blocks, the houses started looking familiar. And then I heard music coming from one house. It was a Fleetwood Mac song.
But now it's gone It doesn't matter what for But when you build your house Oh, then call me home...
Stopping at this point, the man turned to me and said, "It's time to wake up." And I did.
Although I didn't make out anything of the dream other than it being lucid, I went and told my friend Vicky (previously wrote about her here) all about it, and to my astonishment she said she had a Fleetwood Mac song played at her daughter's funeral. It was not the same song, but, still, it was an incredible coincidence. I mean, of all the music bands in the world, why Fleetwood Mac? I hadn't listened to any of their songs recently.
Vicky didn't seem to care much for my dream, though, and abruptly changed the subject, telling me that she thought she had had a hypnagogic hallucination—her very first—the night before, that is, the night when I had the lucid dream. She said she heard knocking on her door as she was falling asleep.
This instantly reminded me of what happened with Jennifer, my half-brother's daughter. I never met her in person, but my father did and was very impressed by her. The two of them clicked. Years after the last time he saw her, my father woke up at night and came to tell my mother and me to go open the door for the person who was knocking. We were watching TV and neither of us heard any knocking—plus, it was too late for anyone to visit—so we thought my father must have dreamed it. He insisted, but my mother reassured him there was no one at the door, and he went back to bed, looking rather confused and worried. We also went to bed shortly after. Then, later that night, I woke up with the sensation of breeze sweeping across my face. I looked up and saw what appeared to be a translucent black veil floating in the air a few inches above my bed. I found it fascinating and lay there looking at it, not believing my own eyes, until I eventually fell back asleep. The next morning my mother told me over breakfast that she had seen something dark floating around her room. So, we both saw it. That same morning, my father received a call from David, my half-brother, to say that Jennifer had passed away unexpectedly the night before. My mom and I then believed it was Jennifer who my father had heard knocking at the door. She had come to say goodbye.
Suddenly the lucid dream made sense to me. It was about Vicky's daughter (the Fleetwood Mac song hinted at this), and not about me. The dream meant she had 'come out of the woods' (the state of confusion following death) and finally found her way back home to her mom. That's why Vicky heard knocking on her door that night.
I advised Vicky that before moving to a new place, she should ask a priest or medium for help to put her daughter's spirit to rest. A medium told her to be in the lookout for white feathers, because it would be a sign that her daughter was now at peace. Then Vicky sent me a picture of several white feathers she found scattered in the yard.
She's just bought herself a new house and will be moving soon. The house is the one that Mr. C showed me in a hypnagogic hallucination, telling me that it was Vicky's place. He was showing me her future and not present home. About the car I saw parked at the front, it was a late 1970s model—and it turns out her new home was built in 1976.

Here's how to spot a Mad Scientist:
Is very smart in a specific field
Probably hasn't slept in the past 4 days
Depressed
Slowly decends into madness/spirals/gets obsessed over something to the point where they destroy their lives over it
Here are other minor signs you might want to look out for (doesn't apply to all Mad Scientist):
Very pathetic. A loser, if you will
Is gay
Wears glasses
Has a best friend who is extremely friendly and also a poet
Graying hair despite their relatively youthful appearance
Can be a little bit silly (as a treat)
Note that not all Mad Scientists are actual scientists. The Mad Scientist can be disguised as something else and may try to trick you; do not be fooled. Look for these traits to identify a real wild Mad Scientist.
Now you are ready to go out into the wild and find your very own Mad Scientists to hyperfixate on for the next month! Hope this helped❤️

Day Sixty
So I tweaked my back this morning while getting out of the car because I'm old now, and that's what happens. Did that stop me from acting horrifically offended when one of the junior boys called the team of teachers who'd come to play basketball during flex time "the old people?" No.
It didn't stop me from playing basketball either.
The student council put on a tournament during flex all week, so we were playing the winning team. It was me, Mr. L, Mr. C, Mr. N, Mr. F, Dean 2, and The Principal. We lost, of course, but we did show them that- for old people- we can ball. And my students learned that, whether I'm good at a sport or not, I will smack talk (lightly- still school appropriate). One of my APGOV boys said he didn't expect that of me, and I was just like, "Yup. I run my mouth."
Teaching APGOV was excellent today. I was teaching NatSec policy, which is my favorite- and, gosh, it's relevant right now. The discussion we had was a rollercoaster in terms of pace and wild directional turns, heh. It was so much fun.
Global Studies was less fun, but it wasn't bad. I had tests to go over, and advice to give to those who didn't do so well, and then students read an article about Confucianism and Taoism. I fielded their questions, had them share what they'd learned, and that was that.
And this five-day week, our only one this month, is now over! Two days next week, then we're on vacation!
