Hey you ever kinda just think about how like.
Yeah, the teacher telling Khan “there might be something damaged with her system” about Uzi and the “maintaining your insane daughter unit” stuff might’ve been not-meant-fully-seriously but like. To take things completely at face value/ wayyy to seriously for a show about Funny Robots for a moment
The drones may be starting their own civilization but like. They’re picking up a lot of stuff/copying a lot of stuff from the humans
The humans viewed them. Really just as nonsentient tools- any deviation in behavior from the norm was likely viewed as a sign of damage/corruption, and like.
Sure now the drones are experimenting with letting their children develop in new ways but, intentionally or not, it kinda feels like they picked up a lot of the views on themselves as people from the humans? Like- not really mourning/reacting properly when someone dies (despite implications that it does affect them like Khan’s happy memories box and Doll wanting revenge), the way it kinda feels like they’ve just given up and accepted living in constant existential dread, and of course, jumping straight to words like “damaged” and “Insane” when talking about people like Uzi and Nori… which, given how a lot of Uzi’s quote-unquote ‘craziness’ can be more linked to stuff like ‘actually caring enough to get angry when people are hurt/mistreated, being passionate about her work, wanting to find the source of/fix problems, venting about her frustrations, wanting affection but never getting it in return’ (even if it often comes out more as wild cackling and monologues, conspiracy boards, and mad science gadgets)… paints a pretty tragic picture
Like, it feels like the colony as a whole never really learned to grieve or to view themselves as actual people, and even if they have the pinnings of a society, they’re still stuck at thinking of themselves as tools and replications of people, save for a few like Uzi and. I guess to some messed up extent, Doll?? (Like- she cares enough about her parents to want to avenge them even if it means slaughtering anyone in her way to do it, which could be seen as “caring about people but take it in a bad direction… which I guess Uzi has shades of too in the whole ‘wanting to take revenge on humans just as a concept’”)
How sad that the ones who seem to care the most are the ones that ended up having to literally eat people to survive. Irony’s a real dick sometimes, huh?

Hazbin Hotel Murder Drones AU: Master Post
I love both shows so much and someone on twitter suggested that my Alastor w/ mic-tail looked like a Murder Drone and I just was compelled to draw it.
It's very indulgent and I'm sure some characters would fit better with others, but this is what I came up with and I'm running with it! (If anyone wants to take their own spin on it, please lemme know I wanna see)
It's a Radioapple AU, with minor Adamsapple
It's also got flavors thrown in from a few popular theories
Character sheets, art and more below
Alastor is the Uzi Character, I vibe a lot with the idea of Alastor in the Eldritch!Form
Tumblr media
A normal worker drone infected with Absolute Solver (which is Roo in this au!) Yes I gave the microphone teeth. I am so sorry. I imagine these versions of the characters are adults, instead of high schoolers to more vibe with Hazbin's character pool.
Here's a fully rendered art I did inspired from Episode 7. I really wanted to draw the lantern in the mic-tail's mouth
Tumblr media
Lucifer is in N's position
Tumblr media
An outcast among the Disassembly Drones. He has the biggest crush on Adam at the beginning of the story, but eventually develops feelings for Alastor
I like to think the Cyn in this au which is Eve/Roo gave him more wings then everyone else because he was nice to her.
Also look at him, he's baby, I wanna million of him
Tumblr media
Adam takes V's position
Tumblr media
He fucking LOVES being a disassembly drone, but after Al and Lu drag him into things he very quickly adapts and eventually becomes a part of the team. He ends up becoming the cool guy at the Worker Drone Colony
I went though a few incarnations before I found my final design for Adam:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lastly for characters whom have art that I have finished here's Lute in the 'J' position.
Tumblr media
She's sent down with Adam and Lucifer, and later is helping the Tessa character (who is Lilith). She's definitely the least fleshed out at the moment, and I might branch away from MD canon with her, but I do like her coming back with Lilith.
Like Adam figuring the exact style took a few tries:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Other cast members I have worked out include:
Tessa - Lilith
Cyn/Absolute Solver - Eve/Roo
Alice - Pentious (my beloved snake boi I'm so sorry maybe I'll save you in the au somehow)
Beau - Frank

Good afternoon Murder Drones Tumblr, it's time for another headcanon since y'all seem to like mine:
Disassembly Drones have really good night vision since they're only meant to be active at night anyway, I'm sure we can all agree on this. Therefore, N does not have a fear of the dark - aside from a small remnant of unease left over from when he was a worker (you cannot tell me that boy didn't fear the shadows). But y'know who does?
Uzi.
HEAR ME OUT, a typical Worker Drone would have no reason for advanced night vision capabilities, given the fact that they have to recharge at some point and based on what we've seen they do enter a sleep mode at night. Now I'd be willing to accept that certain models are made to do certain jobs (nightguard security watch and the like) so there are probably SOME workers that have night vision, but Khan was (presumably) made to fill the role of a mechanic (who we know via Frank "Ladderbot 5000" need flashlights anyway) and Nori was just straight up a test subject. Why would either of them have night vision; their intended purpose doesn't require them to be active at night anyway.
Anyway all this to say that if and when Uzi and N fall asleep in the same room Uzi is definitely thankful for N's tail, which would fill the role of a nightlight of sorts.

So I was looking at the missing posters in episode 3 and noticed something about the dates.
Tumblr media
On the posters we get dates for January, February, March, April, and May. So, a 5 month timespan.
Now, there are two ways for these girls to end up with missing posters. 1. They were killed by Doll, and 2. They were killed by eldritch J. (most likely the former)
It wouldn't make sense for any of them to be killed before that point, because if they died during the break in during episode 1, the colony would know they were killed by the disassembly drones, not missing. Also, when Thad brings Uzi her gun, he tells her about the "recent disappearances." Which suggests they started after Uzi banished herself. (We also know when Thad went to get said gun, J's corpse was already gone, keep this in mind.)
This would mean that, between the events of the pilot and the prom, about 5 months have passed.
Now then, when in that time frame did episode 2 occur?
There are four events we need to place within that 5 month time span: - Frank gets sent to fix the hole in the roof, J goes worm mode and kills him - Thad enters the storage room (must happen after Frank dies) - Jorm eldritch J begins her murder spree, this happens concurrently with Thad bringing Uzi the gun, as she and N immediately return with Thad at this point - Prom occurs, this must happen at the end of the 5 months
The first question we must ask is: How long was J's corpse sitting there?
The first event we can try to place is Frank getting killed when he goes to fix the hole in the roof. This happens at the same time J's core mutates into eldritch J. So how long do we think that 1. The colony would wait to try to fix the hole and 2. The core would sit there waiting? I feel like this had to happen not long after the break in, as neither the colony nor the core has a reason to wait around. It doesn't make sense for several months to pass between the end of episode 1 and this scene.
Second question: How long did Jorm wait to start the murder spree?
Eldritch J uses Frank's hologram to lure Tim in to kill him. Khan is informed of this during the parent teacher conference, which he stays at while the other WDF members investigate. Uzi, N, and Thad witness this investigation and hear the detective drone comment that Khan is at currently at the conference, ergo Tim's death likely happens the same day those three enter the bunker.
So the only part where we can really speculate about time is in between Frank and Tim's deaths. When he sees the hologram, Tim is surprised and says, "we looked everywhere for you." This suggests that some time has passed between Frank going missing and Tim seeing the hologram. So, we then have to ask how long would it take for them to notice that Frank was gone, and how long would it take for them to "look everywhere." This is tricky as we don't know how long a drone could go missing for before the colony takes notice, or how it would take for them to check around the bunker for him. Especially since we have no way of knowing how much Tim could be exaggerating when he says this. The time frame could be anywhere between a few hours and several weeks. Keeping in mind that he's forgettable enough for Tim to call him Ladderbot 5000 in spite of a name tag. Was Tim the only one like this, or did the colony just not care much about his guy?
As for when Thad enters the storage room. While, it doesn't make too much sense for him to go get the gun and just hang on to it for weeks on end. There's also nothing to say he went and picked it up right after J's corpse moved. Whether he went to get it minutes or days after Frank died, things could still play out the same way they do in the episode.
Third question: How long did Uzi wait before trying to go talk to N?
So, between the events of episode 2 and the prom, Uzi and N wallow in a guilt and shame for a lil bit. Till Uzi finds the posters the day of prom and plans to go out to talk to N about it.
This time frame is probably the most malleable of them. Because honestly, I can see these lil dumb dumbs doing that for multiple months. Angsty girl who built a sci-fi nonsense gun to fix her problems through violence, and a golden retriever of a guy who thinks he's too dangerous to be around? They could dodge trying to work that out till Copper 9's sun went super nova. The only reason they meet is that they needed to stop Doll's plans.
The amount of time Uzi spent living with N and V is also very up in the air. She had enough time to: make her pod plans on the whiteboard, learn that the communicator is busted, the disassembly drones' memory got messed with, realize that the solver symbol shows up in her eye, look around and find the pin on N's hat, and get in contact with Thad in some capacity. None of which would take all that long.
We'll probably never know exactly how long it was between each event.
But here's my estimation: We'll be generous and say it took maybe a week or so before Frank went to get eaten.
We'll be very generous again and say eldritch J hung out in the vents for 2-3 weeks
That gives us about a month or so that Uzi was banished, and another 4 for her and N to avoid facing their problems
If we assume that the next three episodes took about another 5, that would put us at just under a year for the events we've seen. Which feels about right. 6 near-death experiences in ~10 months feels doable. Also, would place episode 6, and the upcoming events, around October, which seems fitting.

(Small Wars Journal) Although Ramadan is the month of repentance and a time of unity and solidarity for Muslims worldwide, terrorist organizations take this opportunity to call for terrorist attacks, labelling it “the month of conquest and jihad”. Attacks during Ramadan fit the strategic rationale of such organizations, as it allows them to showcase their operational capacity. So Vivzie just tweeted this and I have thoughts that won't fit well into tweets so here I am
Tumblr media
For starters, the criticism of fanfiction isn't targeted towards the queer aspects. In fact I've found that some of the most extreme critics of fanfiction culture are also queer people. From the fujoshi fandom that causes an extreme rise in MlM shipping but largely for fem gazey smut, the unrecognised untagged unhealthy relationship tropes, to the misogyny often within these works, stories like these come with many issues.
The criticism of writing feeling like fanfiction, especially towards Helluva Boss, is that the elements of the stories people heavily critique feel unnecessary, tropey, and derailing from consistency.
In The Circus, I do not fault the idea of a queer character having a childhood crush on a same sex friend. The problem is more to do with how it stunts the desperation Blitz has to keep his business alive, since he's no longer just sleeping with some rich guy but an old friend, and the sudden unexpectedness of their situation. It's also a common trope where the live interests actually knew each other as kids so it feels overdone and generic.
In Exes and Oohs, the mafia setting feels completely bizarre considering the intense bigotry and classism within the world. Not only that but the daddy issues, fridged mum, forced marriage and overall unrealistic depiction of the mafia is very common in fanfiction written by teens who do no research and just want the aesthetics.
Secondly, there are plenty of straight works that have a similar label attached to them. ACOTAR and TOH both have writers who originally wrote fanfiction and they didn't develop out of the negative habits within fanfiction writing. Therefore their original work feels like fanfiction. Riverdales "I'm weird, I'm a weirdo" speech was heavily critiqued for sounding like a fanfiction line.
Thirdly, a big reason for being compared to fanfiction is the unfinished feeling of the scripts. I've already pointed out in a previous post that some of the dialogue in Western Energy felt like it needed to be cut down by an editor. And most people agree that the situations and logic aren't often very well thought through, such as how the aging machine could have just been reversed or how DORKS should have been killed off. The scripts feel like loose first drafts that could use additional edits. Fanfiction usually doesn't have an editor or even a beta reader, I've seen more "no beta we die like *insert character*" tags in many of the fandoms I read for than "beta" tags.
If people critiqued the owl house for feeling fanficcy because it had a diverse cast in a highschool setting with a quirky MC, I'd agree it's a bad descriptor because it's directly the queer and neurodivergent stories that are being attacked. Or if Murder Drones was labelled as fanficcy because it has an edgy teen female MC I'd say it's unfair because a lot of girls genuinely act like that and deserve to be represented and have our stories told. But most of the criticism about Helluva Boss to do with its LGBT rep is less to do with its inclusion and more to do with people feeling it's falling into yaoi tropes. Not the fact it includes queer stories.
This is something We Are Not Alive said recently that such with me, but just because it's an indie project doesn't mean we have to settle for subpar writing. There are loads of indie productions you can support! Murder Drones, Lackadaisy, the animated Anne Frank movie, and these are just some of the more popular ones!
And I wish people would stop weaponising every single argument to try and defend issues in Helluva Boss. The fandom says "of course it has issues" then cries when we point that out.

Merry Christmas Here is Ethan pov of Episode 2
Tw: murder, cannibalism, homophobia, mentioned explosives, mind control, sleep drugs, open bodies (patient Charlie), mentioned gunshots, anything else mentioned in mastermind of the warehouse
Ethan never knew whether to like or hate filming the shows. At least this one was over now though. The plot was a bit awful, something Ethan couldn't even keep up with. All he knew was he had killed Vinny and eaten part of him. He always hated how much he enjoyed the taste of human meat but it was something to eat. He knew that one of the drones would come by to reset him soon, he didn't even bother to move from his spot. They'd already taken Vinny's body away so he was left in an empty set next to a pool of blood. Not even registering the figure walking up next to him.
"Ethan?" He wiped the blood off his face and turned his head to face the other person.
"Oh hey Austin, what's um, what's up?" Ethan was surprised Austin actually wants to talk with him after probably witnessing all he did. Not that he's exactly complaining, he enjoys Austin's company.
"I need to tell you something before they reset us, it's important." Austin seems nervous to say this, as if he was breaking a rule. Which technically, he was but Ethan didn't know that. Ethan tilts his head to the side as a sign he is listening. "I-i think I'm in love with you. I think you're just amazing and I-" Ethan is no longer listening. He has too many thoughts running through his head to register the words coming from Austin's mouth. Too many thoughts to notice the employees carrying masks towards the two. He's too focused on how he's been taught to think about how disgusting and wrong gays are. How he's been repressing his own feelings for Austin to keep the two of them safe. And then Austin just makes all his hard work disappear. Before he can really respond, a mask is shoved on his face and it all goes blank.
When he comes to, he's strapped to a carousel with a bomb around his neck. He turns his head every which way to see what's going on with this set. Vinny is still unconscious on his right and he remembers the taste of his flesh. Austin is on his right and he realizes that he didn't forget anything this time. He remembers the last show, and he remembers Austin's confession. As he looks, he sees a door and some kind of control panel in front of him. Niki and... what's left of Frank is also on the carousel. Surprisingly, so is Sneeg. He's sat directly behind him but Ethan can tell that he's awake. Showfall is probably gonna get stronger sleeping drugs for them soon. Ethan makes sure that the cameras aren't on yet before attempting to talk to Sneeg.
"Any idea what we're doing this time?" Sneeg barely responds,
"New guy, Puzzler's probably here too given the spirals and TVs. There's also audience interaction this time around. Which is new."
"Oh that's just great." Ethan says sarcastically. Now all they do is wait for the others to wake up. Ethan and Sneeg are, unfortunately, trusted enough by Showfall to where they don't need many implanted memories to put on a good show but the others almost always have totally fake backstories.
After the others wake up and a while of mostly fake panic, the new guy Sneeg mentioned opens the door. Everyone instantly switches to pleading for their lives and for him to get all of them out. Eventually The Puzzler has to come in because someone (probably Sneeg) broke the TV and explains that Ranboo, so that's his name, gets to pick someone to come with him and the rest die. So Ethan starts to explain his case. He wants to get out, to get back to Turner (is Turner real?), that he lost everything in the 2008 recession (is that why he was sent here?), that he's unemployed (technically true), his fiance left him (Did they really leave? That doesn't sound right), that he's bad at math (didn't get a full education), but he's good at other things (he knows how to be useful to the show, how to be entertaining, how to appeal to the audience). He's cut off and after some issues with the carousel controls, they move onto Austin. And what Austin says nearly breaks Ethan. He claims to have a wife and kids. The group tells him he's lying and pressure him to admitting that it's a lie, but Ethan's the most adamant about it. He hates to hear that and after his confession, its so much worse. At some point Charlie is rolled in, his stomach cut open and his guts visible. Ethan notices his mouth watering and stops himself. The cycle continues on and the audience votes. Picking Niki and Sneeg. The audience has to do a puzzle and then they're gone. Even the Puzzler and the Rats have left. But they weren't killed. There's silence. And later, Ranboo comes back through the room and the pleading starts up again. He goes into the room he originally came from and brings back a game piece. Apparently they're playing Mousetrap. The Hero leaves and all is silent again. Two gunshots are later heard and Vinny is unbound and ushered to the next room. And still they are not dead. They still have use. Charlie stopped moving and talking a while ago, probably died. So that leaves only Ethan and Austin strapped to the carousel. The cameras are off with no sign of turning back on and so Ethan attempts to do something risky. He tries to reach and grab Austin's hand. But his hands are too tightly bound. He can't reach. And so he looks away and hopes Austin didn't notice. But what Ethan didn't know was that Austin had noticed. Some time later, they're brought into a room that looks like a huge closet. The clue The Puzzler gives them is vague and none of them have any clue what to do so Ethan suggests something.
"He said looks can be deceiving so what if we deceive him with our looks?" The others don't have any better ideas so they try that out. But Ranboo is clearly controlled and Sneeg got put further under at some point too so it's mostly him and Austin trying. Ethan hopes his idea might jog Austin's memory since he's still very insistent that he has a family. It sorta works. Austin's at least more comfortable in himself and is now wearing a wig and heels. The Puzzler comes back and they do a small fashion show but that wasn't the puzzle so they take all the stuff off and start looking around the room again. They find two buttons that turn on the blacklights which illuminate drawn arrows and words. It's too obvious and the group doesn't trust it. The Puzzler comes back and leaves again and Ethan thinks he knows where the Puzzler left through. He tries to pick a shoe off of a shelf and it begins to turn. He yells that is the way out before he's turned enough to see Security. He screams as Security behind to tear into him and he doesn't know why. Maybe it's because he basically did drag and tried to get Austin to as well. Maybe they found out about his feelings for Austin. But he's being killed and he's bleeding out. He can hear Austin screaming about the blood and begging for the others to react to it. And then nothing.
Little did Ethan know that this was enough to make Austin remember. Little did Ethan know that Austin realized how much Ethan was trying. Little did Ethan know that Austin was so distraught he could hardly think.

do have any ideas for you version of miraculous ladybug like introducing non akumatized villains?
Tumblr media
Hmm, I think I have a couple of ideas, like with turning back M. Pigeon and the Mime into non-akumatized villains. So, here are my concepts for some of the villains of seasons one and two for now:
Hawkmoth is a dark, mysterious supervillain serving as the main antagonist of Miraculous Heroes. He is only identified by his dark purple suit and his reflective butterfly mask, and he is the current wielder of the butterfly miraculous charm and is aided by Nooru, the kwami of empowerment. He possesses the ability to either grant someone superpowers or empower their already-existing abilities, transforming them into an advanced, empowered version of themselves. He is also recruiting other supervillains (through his personal henchman, the Mime) into his new supervillain team, the Société Obscure, and so far, he has recruited M. Pigeon, Simon Says, the Bouffon, Matchmaker.
The Mime is a quiet, dangerous henchman working personally for Hawkmoth. He can manifest any object to existence by using mime performance, like a wooden mallet, or a set of TNT. He is also responsible for recruiting local villains into Hawkmoth’s new organization, the Société Obscure. In his public identity, he is the gentle performance artist Fred Harpèle, who happens to be the father of lycée student Mylène Haprèle.
Phantom Phreak is a eccentric, mysterious crook who is seen in an LED smiley mask and hooded street wear. He possesses a specialized hacking gauntlet that allows him to hack into and control any form of technology, such as cars, security cameras, or computers, and he has an arsenal of weaponized drones. He is also an ally of Hawkmoth, though not a member of the Société Obscure, as he aids him through manipulating teenagers into his secret supervillain school program, Académie Fantômas, and so far, he had recruited Dark Cupid, Timebreaker, Gamemaster, Stormy Weather, Tidal Thunder, MC Zoom, Rismatik, Princess Fragrance, Lady Wifi (secretly undercover), Puppeteer, and Volpina. In public, he is talented super scientist Dr. Gérard Innovera, director of Eiffel Innovations and frequent ally of several superheroes (including Knightowl, Jade Turtle, and the previous Miraculous Duo).
Queen Aurumis is a dastardly villainess who wishes to steal every luxury item in the world and make them hers. She is made entirely out of golden glitter, allowing herself to slip into tiny openings, and she is also equipped with a cursed staff that allows her to petrify anyone or anything into solid gold. In public, she’s one of the world’s famous fashion icons and director of the high fashion magazine Style Queen, Audrey Bourgeois, who is also Chloé’s neglectful mother and André's unfaithful wife. Aurumis also happens to be a recurring enemy of the Union of Superheroes and New York Guardians. She later invites herself into the Société Obscure, much to Hawkmoth's dismay.
The Milieu Chasseur is the city’s most dangerous organized crime gang, led by the notorious David Chasseur. They have been long active since the 1910s, having committed numerous criminal activities such as racketeering, money laundering, robbery, arms trafficking, and murder. They were also responsible for the reduction of super activity in the 1990s, as David wanted no superheroes or supervillains to interfere with his activities. The gang is also in conflict with the larger Collectif, as David wants to preserve his gang's legacy as the last standing French milieu gang in France. Other members include the Specialistes, a trio of high-ranking lieutenants consisting of well-reserved enforcer Marcus Beauchamp, quiet muscle man Hector Levesque, and rowdy gunman Frank Ménard.
Lapin Blanc is a quick, dangerous hitman noted by his white attire, creepy bunny mask, and signature machine pistol. He serves as the trump card of the milieu, as he has a high kill count of 76 targets and a 97.7% success rate of his assassinations, and he also serves as a special enforcer in order to intimidate criminal associates, especially corrupt politicians like André Bourgeois. In public, he is local slacker Bernard Rapidos, a man in his late 20s who mainly plays FPS games and watch comedies on TV, and he always hates it whenever someone barges in his door, whether it's his landlord or his boss, David.
M. Pigeon is a goofy supervillain who specializes in taming pigeons and using them for his dastardly crimes. He aims to make the city pay for their long mistreatment of the local pigeon population. He is equipped with a special flute that allows him to control his flock of pigeons like a pied piper. After he is first defeated by Ladybug and Chat Noir, he is immediately taken by the Mime, who then recruits him into the Société Obscure. His public identity is simple pigeon handler Xavier Ramier, a prominent animal rights activist who aimed to push a reform in public attitude with pigeons before his plans were rejected by local indifferent politicians.
Simon Says is the villain moniker of former TV personality Simon Grimault, a failed hypnotist who attempted to make a successful hypnosis on live TV. He uses a state-of-the-art hypnotizing hat that allows him to control people at his whim, but only when he uses the phrase "Simon says". His first scheme was to expose Ladybug and Chat Noir's identities, but they eventually learned how to use quantum masking (irremovability of their masks) and managed to defeat him. He later becomes a new member of the Société Obscure after his defeat.
The Bouffon is a wild, wisecracking jester who aims to turn the city upside-down. He has a large arsenal of wacky gadgets and gizmos to aid him in his wild pranks, such as operating a metro train on the streets of Paris, turn the Eiffel Tower into the Leaning Eiffel Tower, or TP-ing the entire Palace of Versailles. He is later recruited into the Société Obscure by the Mime after his plans were thwarted by Ladybug and Chat Noir. He is identified as former lawyer Jacques Ardouin, who had been involved in numerous scandalous cases that drove him mad.
Pixelator is a new supervillain who specializes in kidnapping people, paralyzing them, and posing them in weird, flamboyant portraits. He uses a state-of-the-art camera that can freeze someone in place as long as they are in eye contact with the flash. His public identity is Vincent Aza, and he also happens to be a huge fan of local rock star Jagged Stone, but sadly for him, he got banned from attending any meetup with his idol after snooping into his dressing room one too many times. After his defeat, he is later recruited into the Société Obscure by the Mime.
So, that's all the villains I can conceptualize for seasons one and two of my ML fan concept. Sadly, I had to make a part two of this post after reaching the apparent 4096-character limit. Sorry if I took too long to answer, @xwolfclaw.

King as Michael Jeffries, Adrian Elizondo as Philip Guerrero and Antony Del Rio as Alexander Hughes.
Our heroes:  Try, try, try again.
What important things did we learn about:
Callen:  Away on assignment – he always misses these wacky Body Stitchers. Sam:  Pulled away from the case for a terrorist threat in San Pedro. Kensi:  Not thrilled to be dealing with Cindy Ferguson again.    Deeks:   Not thrilled by any of this. Fatima:   Working late. Rountree:   Heard about the Body Stitchers case in the Academy. Kilbride:  Wants the team to stop whining about losing the bad guys the first time and get them this time.
What not so important things did we learn about:
Callen:   Absent. Sam:   Cleaning up after Arkady in Sam’s own backyard. Kensi:    Working with Agent Rand for a lot of the episode. Deeks:   Working with Sam for a lot of the episode. Fatima:   In charge of freeing the Body Stitchers almost victim. Rountree:  Catches a Body Stitcher on his own. Kilbride:  Warns the team that they can help on this case as long as NCIS doesn’t need them.
Where in the world is Henrietta Lange?  No mention today.
Who's down with OTP:   Not a lot of OTP time today.
Who's down with BrOTP:  Not a BrOTP episode either.
Fashion review:   Black, long-sleeve tee for Sam.  Kensi has on a wine-colored long-sleeve v-neck tee.  Deeks wears a very pale blue/nearly grey henley.  Fatima is wearing a purple turtleneck.  Rountree has on a charcoal grey pullover sweater under a denim jacket with a leather collar.  Admiral Kilbride is in his usual three-piece suit with a pale blue dress shirt and a blue tie with a darker blue paisley tie.
Music:   “Gravy Train” by Lettuce is playing while Raymond is having breakfast.
Any notable cut scene:   None today.
Quote:  Sam:  “I'm just a government employee.  Explain it to me.” Ferguson:  “He's a great master, like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Renoir.  These humans who changed the world with their imagination and a pencil.” Sam:  “So Vincent is a master artist?” Ferguson:  “Yeah, Vincent, like Vincent van Gogh.  Uh... You know?” (mimics cutting her ear) Sam:  “Yeah.” Ferguson:  “He's the great master behind the bodies.  It's his vision.  We're just his apprentices, learning the art.” Sam:  “The art of sewing bodies together?” Ferguson:  “God. Isn't it beautiful?”
Anything else:    Lots of previously-s from “Monster”.  And the weirdos are back doing weirdo things.  This time with extra self-importance.
Raymond is having breakfast, listening to tunes when Sam walks in with a cigar butt.  Raymond feigns ignorance but there are four others in the backyard.  Raymond starts to call Callen – obviously an investigation must be started.  When told Callen is out of town, Raymond suggests bumping it up to the SecNav.  Seems the cigars don’t belong to Raymond – he doesn’t smoke.  But Arkady does.  Raymond made a friend not to Sam’s liking.  The family fun is interrupted by a call – Sam’s being called to the office.  Leaving, Sam bars Arkady from the house.
Rountree is waiting as Kensi walks into the office.  Agent Rand from the FBI called.  Kensi speaks highly of Rand and asks why Rand called.  Rountree tells her about the “legendary” case while he was in the Academy about killers who make Frankenstein monsters out of their victims.  There was scuttlebutt Rountree heard about another agency being involved in the case.  Kensi said they were all in a dark place after the case.
Up in Ops, Kensi and Rountree join Deeks and Fatima.  Agent Rand is on the big screen.  In a different Zoom box is Special Agent Zachary Collins from the BAU.  The FBI heard the group is back in LA.  Rand sends Fatima some pictures from a the “Body Stitchers” last crime scene.  It freaks Fatima out a little and Rand apologizes.
Rountree asks for a motive.  Collins explains the killers think they are creating some kind of art and make money selling the event as art on the dark web.  The money gives the killers the freedom to move around largely undetected.  Collins thinks the motive is also sexual – the killers meshed violence and sex together as young people and are acting on it.
The Body Stitchers have been seen in the US, Central and South America.  The FBI has gotten close several times but just missed.  Deeks asks why.  Collins tells the group – including an arriving Admiral Kilbride that the killers aren’t stupid.  They set up, do their thing and move on.  They avoid common ports of entry and regularly purchase new identities on the dark web.
The Admiral puts his foot down – this is not a military related action, the OSP’s involvement will be limited.  If NCIS needs the team or a team member, they’re out of the case.  Rand is fine with that – the OSP is the only agency ever to interact with the killers.  As advisors or part of the task force, the FBI wants NCIS to offer whatever they can.  Kensi tells the Admiral the case is unfinished business for the team.  No, it is unfinished business for the FBI, he replies.  Deeks brings up Lt. Commander Weir but Lt. Commander Weir was a random crime victim and not killed because of his service.  Kensi brings up how he was killed and the Admiral relents – NCIS will be mildly involved.  Rand is grateful.
Sam, Kensi and Deeks arrive at the crime scene.  Rand is there with the dead guy and Collins from BAU.  Collins introduces himself as Mark Collins which is weird since he was Zachary Collins about five minutes ago.  Sam asks when did the FBI figure out the killers were back in LA.  Rand explains a woman named Staci Campbell was murdered.  Suspect Michael Jeffries got a text with photo of all the body parts used to sew the “art” together.  Sam notices freezer burn on the dead people’s shoulder.  That makes sense to Collins – if they don’t have enough parts to sew together, the killers have to preserve the parts they do have.
Kensi asks about Jeffries, who is in custody but there isn’t much to hold him.  He’ll likely be cut lose in a few hours since a judge turned down their warrant request to search Jeffries’s apartment.  He was only seen with the dead woman a few hours before her death – that’s not enough.  Sam, Deeks and Collins are off to interview Jeffries, Kensi and Rand are teaming up.
Just after the men leave, a young female FBI agent has something to show Kensi and Rand.  There was a locked room, now opened.  Inside are a lot of dead bodies.
While Collins is interviewing Jeffries in interrogation, Sam is in the main room of the boatshed talking about how the four people in the case lied right to his face.  They killed people and sewed them back together.  “And we had them.”   The Admiral arrives and wants Sam to stop “wallowing in the fact that you missed something” and tell him what Sam learned.
Sam said the killers knew exactly how to manipulate the investigation.  Deeks chimes in that the killings themselves, the planning, the execution – “the intelligence was off the charts.”  They did not present themselves as smart.  Collins joins the group.  Jeffries knows the FBI and NCIS have nothing so he’s going to be released soon.  Sam asks about Jeffries, who doesn’t really work, just short-sells stock online.  He has no connection to the killers, just lives in the same building as murder victim Staci Campbell.
Fatima pops up on the plasma to connect Kensi and Rand.  The only person to see Campbell and Jeffries together is the super in their share apartment building.  They are going over to interview the super now.
The Admiral tells Sam and Deeks to remember who they are, put the past in the past and “get this thing done.”
In interview, Deeks just stares across the table at Jeffries while Sam sits near the door.  Jeffries is about to speak when Sam tells him to “hold that thought.”  Deeks talks about the smell of the sea around them, the ocean breeze and how these things hide a cold, hard truth.  Jeffries tells them he did not kill Campbell.  They were neighbors but he never touched her.
That’s not the truth, Sam tells Jeffries.  Deeks explains that Jeffries is surrounded by frustrated and angry agents from several government agencies.  “We’re hungry and you’re the only thing on the menu,” Sam says.  Jeffries is keeping up – the kitchen is closed, he didn’t kill Campbell.  Deeks brings up his connection to the killers, killers who executed a member of the US Navy.  That’s federal lock-up.
Sam pushes the idea that they have proof that Jeffries has provided financial assistance to the killers.  Jeffries admits he’s a fan – “people love true crime and serial killers.”   He though the body parts came from grave robberies or morgues.  He didn’t think they were being killed for the art.
Outside Jeffries’s apartment building, Kensi and Rand approach Phillip Guerrero, the super.  He’s trimming some hedges in the building’s courtyard.  He liked Campbell, “good tenant, nice girl.”  Guerrero saw Campbell and Jeffries walk into the courtyard.  They were chatting about food delivery people leaving too many menus by the mailbox area.  As the conversation goes on, Guerrero brings up “Mrs. Jeffries”.  Rand thinks wife but it actually Jeffries’s mother.  She’s in bad health – an invalid after a partial stroke a month ago.  Guerrero drops off food deliveries from time to time – he likes her.
There is no response from Mrs. Jeffries after they knock on the door.   Guerrero lets himself in to see if she’s OK.  While he’s looking around, Kensi checks in with Rountree.  He’s trying to chase the killer’s money but it all leads to offshore accounts which are dead ends.  As Rountree finishes, Guerrero runs from the apartment, horrified and unable to breathe.  Kensi and Rand enter the apartment.  They find Mrs. Jeffries in the bathtub.  Kensi and Rand flee the premises when they get a whiff of sulfuric acid fumes.
Outside, Kensi provides the team an update.  The building has been evacuated due to the health concerns around sulfuric acid.  Guerrero breathed in too much and is getting treated.  Kensi assures everyone she and Rand ran out as soon as they understood what was in the air.  Collins notes that sulfuric acid is easy to find so tracing its purchase will be tough.  This fact annoys Sam.
A titanium knee pretty much identifies the woman in the bathtub as Mrs. Jeffries.  Collins offers the idea that Jeffries killed her because she had incriminating info on her son.  This doesn’t work for Rand.  Based on the lack of damage to the bathtub, Mrs. Jeffries is likely dead only 12-hours.  Jeffries has been in custody for over a day.
Sam, Deeks and Collins ask Jeffries about his mother, why he didn’t mention an older, sick woman alone in his apartment while he was in custody.  Sam tells Jeffries his mother is dead and he seems genuinely surprised.
Jeffries blames Collins for his mother’s death.  The killers would know the Feds were in town while they were planning their show.  He had a ticket to go but couldn’t because he was in custody.  The killer thought he was selling them out and since they couldn’t kill him, they killed his mother as a message.  Collins thinks Jeffries’s mother knew he killed Campbell and he paid someone to kill his mother.  Jeffries is willing to trade info on the dark web he has about the show for witness protection.
Rountree gets to the Body Stitchers’s website on the dark web.  It’s been cleaned out but they access to the e-mail server and will be able to track the killers to their next website.  Kensi calls in with Rand.  Mrs. Jeffries right hand was sawed off before she was put in the acid bath.
Fatima found the new website with a new live video going out shortly.  Everything is password protected but she’s working her way in.  In the live stream, everything is set up but nobody is there.  The stream is coming from an abandoned movie theater in Woodland Hills.
As the team is about to leave, a terrorist warning come in based on an OSP case in San Pedro.  The Admiral has to send something to deal with San Pedro since it is an NCIS priority.  Sam goes.  Deeks and Collins are off to Woodland Hills.
Kensi, Deeks, Rountree and Fatima pull up with Rand and Collins leading the FBI.  SWAT is on their way but not expected for 30-minutes.  The teams can’t wait and enter the theater.   There are 16-theaters.  Everyone breaks off to clear their own theaters.  Fatima and Rountree are in five, Kensi is in theater six.  Deeks enters a theater on his own.  He’s worried the place is too big – too many places to hide.  He starts looking around as one of the FBI agents notes the comms in the theater barely work.
Outside of theater seven, Rand find the group at theater eight.  Kensi and Collins are on their way.   A shot is fired during the “art” event, dropping one of the killers on the stage.  Rand is as surprised as the killers.  She yells FBI and seems stunned that everyone runs.  One of the killers, Barrington, is chased by the young FBI agent who showed the team the dead bodies earlier in the episode.  Barrington drops his knife in his right hand but has a really small boxcutter in his left palm.  When the FBI agent tries to cuff the killer, he stabs her in the throat just as Collins arrives.  As Barrington flees, Collins calls for an EMT.
The young agent claims she’s fine so Collins goes after Barrington.  In a hallway, he runs into Deeks.  The two startle the hell out of each other.  They search as a team for Barrington.
In the theater, Fatima is having the planned victim released from the board he is strapped to with the help of the FBI.  Another FBI agent removes the mask of the dead killer – it is Bobby Griffin.  Everyone wonders who shot him.
Kensi finds Cindy Ferguson trying to escape and quickly cuffs her.  “You’re not getting away, again,” Kensi tells her.
Justin Tucker, the fourth killer, runs right to where Rountree is searching.  Tucker pulls out a big knife, which Rountree insists he drop.  An elevator ping and opens, giving Tucker a way to escape.  Rountree tries to get to the elevator before the door closes but doesn’t make it.  On comms, he warns everyone that Tucker taking the elevator down.  Collins says he’s nearby but the elevator barely moves before Tucker shuts it down.
Outside the elevator, Rountree and Rand try to talk Tucker into surrendering.  Rand demands a cellphone.  He wants to speak to Vincent, the last living master.  Rountree and Rand have no idea what he’s talking about.
Deeks is in a projection room when he hears Collins call “Agent down.”  Deeks finds Collins, who says Barrington stabbed him in the neck.  With the comms are failing, Deeks goes after Barrington when Collins says he’s alright.  Deeks finds a fire exit and starts making his way down.
In the theater where all the killing was going to go on, Fatima with Kensi and Deeks are talking to Alexander, the man who nearly was killed.  She has photos on her phone of the Body Stitchers and Alexander recognizes a few of them but wonders why they don’t have a photo of the main guy – “Master”.
Cutting a deal, Tucker will come back to the NCIS/FBI floor and turn himself in if he can speak to Vincent.  He does go to the NCIS/FBI floor where he cuts his own throat in front of the NCIS and FBI teams.
Kensi has a very tough talk with Ferguson, who the FBI dropped off at the boat shed.  Ferguson doesn’t know Michael Jeffries but she’s not interested in talking to Kensi.  Talking to Kensi takes time away from the beautiful places like the Taj Mahal and not the prison cell she will call home for the rest of her life.
Out in the main room of the boatshed, Sam is back with Deeks, Rand and Collins.  The reason to call Sam away was a paperwork issue.  Collins doesn’t think Ferguson will offer up anything – she’s too committed.  While they have to cut Jeffries loose – no real reason to hold him – Jeffries lawyered up and the lawyer wants him in witness protection.  Deeks thinks that’s the next best thing to having him in custody.  Sam wants a chance to speak to Ferguson.
Ferguson remembers Sam.  He asks to speak to her without Kensi and Kensi is happy to leave.  Reintroducing himself, Sam tells Ferguson she’s being turned over to the FBI.  Ferguson doesn’t care and Sam knows that – because she’s “stupid.”  Ferguson doesn’t like that.  She really doesn’t like when Sam tells her Vincent is in custody and spilling everything he knows.  He gets time off any sentence for every crime he helps the FBI solve – crimes that will put her in prison for decades.  Ferguson doesn’t believe him but Sam says it is a done deal.
Sam would like to Ferguson explain the whole idea of Vincent being her master.  He isn’t her master, Ferguson explains, they aren’t a “cheesy cult.”  Vincent is a great master like DaVinci or Michelangelo – a great artist like Vincent Van Gogh.  Ferguson shows off her ear and pretends to cut it off.  She is an apprentice to a great master learning their art.  It is “affecting” and Sam agrees – he’ll never forget what they did.  Ferguson goes on about their art making them immortal, gods and how they’d die for Vincent.
At home, Sam is enjoying a nice dinner with his father.  Raymond jokes that he’s cooking great meals hoping it will keep him in Sam’s house.  There’s a WBA middleweight fight that night – Sam thinks the two of them should watch together but Raymond has other plans.  A honking horn outside the house is Arkady, who knows he isn’t allowed to come inside.  Raymond is off to play poker and drink some fine whiskey.  Sam isn’t happy about this.  Raymond is annoyed – he’s happy, he has a friend and someplace fun to go.  He plans to live whatever days he has left as full a life as he can have.  Raymond hits up Sam for a few hundred dollars – he’s joking.
Just after Raymond leaves, Rand calls.  She’s sure they missed something.  Jeffries’s mother was dead for at least 48-hours based on the blood lividity tests.  He killed her – Jeffries wasn’t in custody at that time.  And if he removed his mother’s hand, he’s part of the Body Stitchers.  Sam wants another crack at Jeffries, who is being taken to an FBI safehouse in San Diego by Collins.   Sam calls with an apology to Fatima but he needs her help.  She has Kaleidoscope searching the cameras around the theater.  They are looking for video of Barrington leaving.
Saying “Dementia can eat my shorts,” Raymond returns home with a large wad of cash.  He throws it to Sam, who was snoozing in the living room.  When Raymond leaves for bed, Fatima texts Sam – “You need to see this.”
There is video of Barrington leaving the theater through a back door.  There is someone wearing a dress shirt holding the door open for Barrington.  A flashback shows a wounded Collins getting up and letting Barrington out of the theater.
In a car, Collins is joined with Barrington, who is sure the entire state of California is looking for him.  Collins tells Barrington he updated the killer’s profile saying Barrington is likely to return to his home in Orlando.  Collins plans to have him on a beach half-way around the world.
Sam contacts Rand with questions about Collins.  Rand met Collins during the Body Stitchers case.  He’s profiled many serial killers, a logical addition to the team.
In Collins’s car, Jeffries joins Barrington and Collins with a “gift from his mother, I thought she could give us a hand” – it’s a cooler.  Collins is relieved they got rid of the amateurs – Griffin, Tucker and Ferguson – who were only going to get them caught.  Another flashback shows Collins killing Griffin from the theater’s projection room.
The plan is for Barrington and Jeffries to lay low for a good long time.  Collins gives them envelopes with new identities and $10,000.  There will be more cash when needed.  Down the road, they will reunite and change their art.  Make a body with three arms, five legs and a head growing out of its stomach.  “What would Picasso or Dali do?”
Rand tells Sam that Collins and Jeffries never made it to the safe house in San Diego – they were due hours ago.  She’s worried something happened to Collins.  Reviewing Collins’s interrogation of Jefferies, Sam sees Collins run his hand through his hair and showing Jeffries his ear.  Sam flashes back to Ferguson and her Vincent Van Gogh remarks.  Sam tells Rand that Collins is Vincent.
What head canon can be formed from here:  “Monster” was a really well done episode that was also a one and done hour.  No need to stop on USA or ION when you see it is rerunning there.  It was clever (if disgusting) and rarely does the team get beaten by the bad guys at the end.  There was also the introduction of Spencer Williams and all that would unfold in the Mosley storyline.
This wasn’t that.  A little lighter on the gore, though only a little, a lot more muddled in the storytelling.  Hated the idea that what we thought were these clever psychopaths were actually just lemmings following a serial killer who was working for the FBI.  It takes away the accomplishment of the “Monster” episode.
Always happy to see Rand but Collins (with three names here – Zachary, Mark and eventually Vincent) was going to be one of two things – the red-shirted member of the team or one of the killers.
Did like the Sam and Raymond storyline bracketing the episode.  Raymond putting his foot down about living his life the best he can as long as he can was good to see.  Sam has his father’s best interests at heart but Raymond lived a long life and planned to enjoy what he had.
Also liked that Rountree learned about the case in the FBI Academy.  A reminder how much younger he is than the rest of the team that participated in the case.
Kudos to Callen who missed both of these episodes with the Body Stitchers.
Episode number:     The third episode of season 14.  Episode 305 overall.
