Dick gave Robin to Jason

Ok so I was reading up on some of Jason Todd’s original origins (I couldn’t remember a specific detail) and it was all stuff I was very familiar with

Until I got to Batman 1940 issue #368

Where we see Jason Todd wearing not the classic Robin uniform but this

Which first of all

He had pants

And second of all what those two are doing in this panel is discussing what new name Batman’s partner should have instead of Robin. Because when Jason first shows up as Robin in Batman 1940 issue #366, it wasn’t Bruce’s decision

Bruce is surprised to see him (mostly because at first glance he thinks Jason is Dick but I digress)

and more than that he actually gets upset that Jason put the costume on in the first place. Because it wasn’t his to take

Bruce proceeds to explain that he refuses to allow Jason to steal Dick’s identity because Robin belongs to him

Hence the need for a new identity

It’s in the middle of them discussing this that Dick shows up with a box in hand, asking Jason how he’s doing and starts talking about how he felt when he first became Batman’s partner. He then tells them he saw Vicki Vale’s photo of “Batman and Robin” stopping the Joker

Jason immediately apologizes, saying that it was never his intention to try and steal Dick’s identity. But it’s Dick that stops him and tells him that it’s ok because he’s no longer Batman’s partner and that he’s done trying to be like Batman

He talks about how he’s the leader of the Titans and that it’s time his name reflected the fact he was no longer Batman’s partner

It’s then he finally opens the box that he came in with to reveal the Robin uniform

He proceeds to then give it to Jason and more than that tells Jason that he deserves to be Robin and that he explicitly gives Jason permission to use his identity

He then leaves saying he has to get back to the Titans and that he has to figure out what he wants to be next

but not before calling Jason “Robin”

There was no big betrayal or fight, nothing was stolen(permanently anyway).

Dick gave Robin to Jason and then left on peaceful terms

Now obviously this version of the story has been long since retconned and rebooted a dozen times over, but I still found the fact that Dick had originally given the Robin mantle to Jason very interesting

IT REALLY DOES SUCK HOW MUSTARD, BY FAR ONE OF MY FAVORITE VILLAINS IN MHA AND ONE OF THE BEST MINOR SIDE CHARACTERS SHOWS UP FOR WHAT? THREE EPISODES? IN WHICH HE GETS MAYBE 20-30 LINES OF DIALOGUE, EVEN IF IT IS SOME AMAZING DIALOGUE, THEN HES JUST SENT TO JAIL AND NEVER COMES UP AGAIN??

LIKE ITS EVEN WEIRDER CUZ YOUD ASSUME HIM GETTING ARRESTED WOULD LIKE STIR SOME CONTROVERSY, ESPECIALLY SINCE HE HAS A GUN AND IS A LIKE PROBABLY 14-15 AT MOST. LIKE EVEN IF THEY DIDN'T WANT TO USE HIS CHARACTER AGAIN THEY COULD'VE DONE A BIT OF BACKGROUND WORLDBUILDING ABOUT HOW HIS TRIAL WENT OR WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM OR JUST ANYTHING ABOUT HIM. WE DONT EVEN GET A BACKSTORY ON HIM.

POOR MUSTARD, ONE DAY I'LL WRITE SOME BALLER FANFIC ABOUT HIM JOINING THE LEAGUE OF VILLAINS/WHAT HAPPENS AFTER HE'S ARRESTED OR SOMETHING BECAUSE I LOVE HIM. THE GUN REVEAL AND THE MONOLOGUE ARE SOME PEAK STUFF AND I THINK HE SHOWS A REALLY COOL ANGLE OF THE MHA UNIVERSE. Also I like his power, his design rocks in my opinion because in a universe with so many over the top designs (which I do love) something so simple yet clear stands out. Also gas masks are just objectively super cool in character designs. ANYWAYS RAMBLE OVER/

i want to be so so mad at you about your snack choices but when i went to middle school the lunch line would sell like. little takeout sauce containers of pickle juice for 25¢ for some reason. and like i would frequently buy around 5 and drink them like shots at the lunch table

I'm so excited and proud of this boy. He's just getting better & better. Today he ate some mustard greens for the first time, didn't even skip eating a day or two to protest first. Ate a full third of the greens I put down. So he got roaches as a reward & was SO quick to zoom over when I showed him the bowl. Chomped them all down in no time!

And as you can see, he's shedding!!! Already gotten a bit off the neck. The rest of his body is getting dusty looking, so will be joining the party soon.

I'm just so happy about him today.

Dammit, I love the way I look at the world, I love my creativity, but I also wonder why it has to be so extra damn hard just to make and keep friends and to never *ever* know what you're doing so differently than anyone else. It seems I literally *cannot* make deep connections with peers who aren't some flavour of neurodivergence or otherwise disabled. I could be as fun, talented, interesting and authentic as possible, and yet all those qualities can also apply to a fancy little fish in an aquarium that you just... leave behind when you're done.

Late diagnosis autism is just... confirmation that most new people you meet will probably notice something 'off' and use that subconscious thought to put you out of their mind once you're out of sight, because it's always been this way, you were just too naive to see it. That you're missing some ridiculous 'vibe'. Of wondering if anyone who you get along with unusually well might secretly be neurodivergent too because you have that little faith in neurotypicals.

I just don't know how I'm supposed to move on with this when it really does feel like my social skills have just... atrophied. Withered away.

If anyone has any tips at all, that would be greatly appreciated.

I need to make myself a damn chart that shows what greens & veggies & such can be eaten by Ed, the hermit crabs, the rats, the hamster, and the pokeys so I can share out the goodies better. Ed can never eat as many greens as I get for him anyway, since I get multiple for variety. Need to get better at chopping up half for the mammals & crabs.

I personally disagree with the whole line of thought of "Why should we learn things in school that we'll never use in real life?" I might not use chemistry in my everyday life but that stuff is MAGIC. Are you telling me a WIZARD is coming here to teach me the secrets of ALCHEMY???
