god of death ghost whose body is soft with fat, with rich organs and hot blood bc he gives himself to the dead as their final meal; glutting themselves on his body so they're full and content and feel safe as he leads them to the afterlife

he doesn’t hate them for their hunger; it was his idea to invite them to gorge themselves upon him, to conjure memories of smaller times, of warm hearths, soft blankets and whispered lullabies and drifting off to sleep with full bellies

he just turns away as they cross into the great light so they don’t see the flesh reforming over his gnawed bones

johnny the fallen soldier, the child left to the cold of war. johnny who refuses to feast. he was raised to always respect and never take from the dead. he’s shared too many final breaths, dribbled water between too many trembling lips to bear to take from death himself; not even blood offered freely to slake his own thirst

but ghost can't bring himself to lead the hungry to the afterlife, can't leave him to be an empty starved thing; certainly not this soul who burns so bright with lives comforted before their gentle end. before they met him

so they stay together, guiding souls to the beyond; johnny the friend welcoming them to their final meal

ghost keeps trying to convince johnny to partake when he nourishes the hungry and wayward souls but he never does; instead he watches over him as he's feasted upon and cleans the leftover blood from his renewed skin as penance for rejecting a god

he never lets a single drop touch his lips, not when it means abandoning the ever-sacrificial ghost who will never admit to the loneliness of being taken but never kept

but the human soul isn't meant to linger in this in between purgatory; isn't meant to stay in the gaps between thought that the gods belong in and soap grows weak, struggling to cling to this half-life as his soul fades, a solitary dying light in the abyss. nothing stops him from passing into the beyond, from fleeing this dark place stealing his strength

nothing but an unspoken promise

so the god cradles him in his arms; gives him the same comfort he's watched him give to the other fallen. ghost watches the only being who's ever wanted him but refused to take from him slowly slip away

and he can't let him go

he brings johnny to his breast and uses his nail to carve into his flesh; thick, rich blood welling up behind it. he forces himself to ignore johnny's weak begging; his voice hoarse and faltering as he tries to struggle out of his arms but he is no match for ghost

and he can do nothing but look at him with betrayal stinging his eyes as ghost gently caresses his bloodied thumb over his inner lip, a touch he's longed for, and feels the cruel spark of warmth as his tongue touches life

johnny has been fed

ghost can bring him to the afterlife

and he’ll be alive to hate him for it

Alright, so I usually keep this to myself, but I just have to get this off my chest:

The fade prison makes no goddamn sense.

The entire locking mechanism for the prison is "regret." Just... Regret. Like, having some. That's what keeps Solas inside the prison, and once he blood magics his way into swapping with Rook, their regret keep them inside until "letting go of regret" frees them.

Okay. Sure.

This prison? Wasn't built for Solas. Or for Rook. It was built to hold Ghilan'nain and Elgar'nan.

So. A prison. For those two. Where the lock is based on the prisoners inside having regrets.

This is just one of the thousand fucking examples where the writing of the game is so focused on trying to make points that seem deep, but if you bother examining them, like, at all, its... fuck, it's not even a puddle. It's like someone split their fucking beer on the ground. It's like a dog took a piss.

i have seen a lot of posts about lucanis & illario lately, that specifically call out that some of the things Lucanis says about him are kinda mean. usually in context of 'yes what illario did was fucked up but they BOTH went thru the fucked up training and lucanis says shit to him too' etc etc. and i'll be honest as someone who does have a contentious/estranged/very-low-contact sibling relationship. everything lucanis said came off as super mild to me and they should both be WAY nastier to each other actually. yes even when you include their dynamic in wigmaker job which was both more lighthearted And heartfelt. but like if you want realism they should be going from that to 1 minute later annoyed enough to break out the super cutting remarks dragging up the worst things the other has ever done/said, specifically becuause they know it will hurt the other most. then i would believe it more tbh.

I think one of the most headscratching to me aspects of thoschei fan interpretations - and to be fair, writing, lately - is the chaos-order thing. That's probably because both the writers and the fandom immediately slap moral values on what are fundamentally amoral states. There can be disagreements about which is good and which is bad and which character is which as a result of the moral association, but like. It's always about what the show is trying to tell you is the better way to live because "What would the Doctor do" has become an unironic life coaching advice.

Meanwhile, from philosophical, physical and cognitive perspective it's been spelled out by Eight:

Chaos isn't eviler because scary and ununderstandable nor is it gooder because society wants to me do stuff, man. It's more primordial. It's the objective state of things without a subject to perceive them. Yes, there are patterns in nature, but they are results of working least bad in the evolution's infinite monkeying, not some unique order.

What I'm saying is, when you think of chaos snd order as ontological concepts rather than moral admonishments, it becomes borderline incomprehensible how you could look either at a character who delights in a species obsessed with evoking order out of chaos or a character who's whole shtick is control and scheming and say yup, one of these is totally into chaos.
