Baroque is one of my fave art movements. the in-game art looked inspired by it, and I wanted to do a piece that combined my love for it and royal portraiture. this was inspired by the works of Flemish Baroque master Anthony Van Dyck.

this is one of the most ambitious and detailed pieces I've done so far: the fullsize is 22 x 32in, and it took over 50+ hrs. royal portraiture usually has extensive detail, so I wanted to make it as detailed as possible. it was challenging and time consuming, but a lot of fun!

- their ship came about because I wanted to give Raph a chaotic evil counterpart to his lawful evil. basically he’s the “mansplain, manipulate, malewife” to her “gaslight, (Baldur’s)gatekeep, girlboss” lol.

- I hc this Tav’s ending is the “In my name” one. though I hc she says “In our name” instead ;)

- visually, it looks like Raphael has more power but I hc it’s actually Tav for several reasons: many elements of the composition lead to her (Raph’s sash, arms, the curtains), she’s wearing her crown and is seated, and is also foremost while Raph is in the back.

- Raph’s crown is ceremonial/for vanity only while Tav’s tiara has enough fragments of the stone to be fully functional.

- The crown’s design is based on concept art, and if you look closely it kinda looks like it has hearts on the sides. I added the red gems.

I hc that Raph is a romantic and some of his lines seem to allude to this (code phrase of “my heart’s desire”, the Amulet of Greater Health, which Tav is wearing here, in a prominent place in his house, and his words to Hope in a transcript: “…serve me with your whole heart”)

- I hc they’re married at this point. Tav’s ring has two additional gems, and her outfit in general was inspired by the canon design of the Crown of Karsus.

- there’s a lot of red because according to Hope, Raph’s favorite color is “blood”. my hc for the painting overall is that it was done by his personal painter, maybe a debtor who has to paint for him for all eternity (not a bad deal right? /s) so it reflects his and Tav’s requests.

- I picture this hanging either above Raph’s fireplace in the dining room. or bedroom - much to Haarlep’s dismay 🤣

She no longer has to work as a slave (though knowing her, she'd still damn well would try to help out), and she would assimilate easily into an Enchanted Castle's environment, and her gentleness and kindness, with juuuuust a bit more of a feisty backbone to confront the Beast's temper, would unravel the Beast's tangled heart.

Aurora x Eric

There are two things Phillip and Eric have in common: they both slayed the villain in an incredibly badass fashion, and they both are smitten with a mysterious voice. Eric is 1000% an homage to Prince Phillip's character, and you cannot tell me that he wouldn't fall head over heels in love with Mary Costa "Briar Rose's" gorgeous voice. (And let's be real, Aurora definitely has a Type lol)

Ariel x John Smith

Ariel wants to see the human world. John Smith wants to explore the "New World." You do the math. Okay, in all honesty, this is lowkey my least favorite pairing 😭 but when you take away the Awkward Historical Stuff, they do still??? kinda fit???? It's one thing for Ariel to go ashore the nearest human kingdom; it's another for her to actually EXPLORE the planet, with an equal adventurer by her side. Sanuso T4T hits so good no matter in which direction. Canon adjacent transmasc Sanji and Transmasc Usopp? They literally laid eyes on each other and just went “Wow, what a dreamboat” they get each others insecurities, they both work on figuring out what being a man means to them instead of relying on someone else. Transmasc Sanji and Transfem Usopp? Sanji is her biggest cheerleader. He lays it on extra thick with her and she loves it, thinking he’s just indulging her and trying to make her feel good (it’s working) but he’s actually so deeply in love with her and he shows it in the only way he knows how to. Meanwhile he’s her Prince Charming, not only the most handsome man she has ever seen but also her best friend and such a good person even tough the world has been so awful to him. "Protect traditional marriage" when Sanji screams and cries when she sees a bug and Usopp moves it away (never kills it) for her. And "Girlboss x Malewife" whenever Sanji kicks somebody's butt for her boyfriend bc big big monster wanted hand-to-hand combat and Usopp is not built for that type of fight. Idk cause I feel like Oz would be way too intimidated by Vera but like…one of my favorite ships is literally Oz x Damien so I’d be a massive hypocrite if I said I didn’t ship them for that.

I said before I don’t see Vera with a guy but because Oz is masc nonbinary I think it’s fine. It’s like peak girlboss x malewife (enbywife?) energy. Like the ship is literally the embodiment of that dynamic. Like Vera will come home, and she will be greeted by Oz in a cute apron having made her cookies after a long day.

Xie Lian: July 15th

So we know he's a Cancer boy. For some reason i totally see him being a Pisces moon. definetely has Aquarius placements too

Hua Cheng: June 10th

Raging Gemini. There is Scorpio high up on his chart, i can smell it. He has that Boldly emotional but scared of being shot in the heart vibe. Also Taurus placements because of the lavishness and sensuality...

Shi Qingxuan: my favorite character in tgcf after Hua Cheng. Fun, playful, full of life...

I've seen people con them as an Aquarius, i personally think they're more of a sweet Saggitarius. I'm gonna for Saggitarius Sun Taurus Moon because one of my friend has this placement and she gives me major SQX vibes.

He Xuan: Saggitarius too since he's SQX's astro twin. Pretty sure he did have that potential to be a fun, loving person once upon a time.
