Chapter 27 - Motorcycle Training (Part 1)

Sunset and Sci-Twi are in front of Sci-Twi’s house and on the side of the street. Sunset is preparing for her motorcycle training.

“This is amazing Twilight. I can’t wait to ride this pony.” said Sunset.

“Before you use the weapons on this motorcycle, you must learn how to ride this.” said Twilight.

“That’s the plan and don’t worry. I know how to ride a motorcycle. I rode one in the Friendship Games.” said Sunset.

“Well this motorcycle is state of the art. It has a lot of buttons and it’s super advanced. So you better be careful with that.” said Twilight.

“Thanks for that warning. I’ll be careful. I pinkie promise.” Sunset promised.

“Okay. All you gotta do is to get on and push that big silver button.” said Sci-Twi.

“Okie Dokie.” Sunset got on and pushes the button. The motorcycle and the computer screens turns on.

“Wow! This is super awesome!” Sunset exclaimed.

“Thanks. Okay. I made a really big ramp so you can do your long jump. Are you brave enough for this?” said Twilight.

“I’m not afraid of anything. Let’s do this.” said Sunset with confidence.

Sunset starts driving the motorcycle and begins to drive fasts. She makes a determined face while gritting her teeth. Sunset made it to the ramp. Sunset didn’t stop driving. She kept going. Sunset drove to the ramp and she and the motorcycle jumped from it. Sunset and the motorcycle are now high in the sky. Sunset thinks of a super awesome trick. She jumped out of her motorcycle seat and did a triple flip in the air. Sunset landed back on her motorcycle seat and the motorcycle landed safely on the ground. Sci-Twi was super impressed.

“Sunset. That…was…SUPER AWESOME!!!! I loved the trick you did in the sky.” said Sci-Twi.

“Thanks Twilight. In order to become a great masked crusader, I must do some impressive moves and tricks.” Sunset explained.

“So true. Now let’s continue your training. Now this time with the buttons and weapons.” said Sci-Twi.

“You got it.” Sunset gave a thumbs up. So did Sci-Twi.

Sunset knew that she’s going to do amazing things with her new awesome ride.

Stepping In The Sun: Looking Up?

Sunburst was starting to feel good.

Finally, something he was actually making progress with. Something he can actually DO. Something other ponies were proud of him for. And Sunburst was really good at it!

He couldn't help but smile with pride at the scoreboards for the final grades. His name was so high up, his neck kind of hurt looking at it.

“Wow. You're second place, Sunburst!” Bouillon Roux–an albino filly– remarked. “Think you can tutor me a bit? I got 20th place…”

“Well, shucks, I dunno about THAT.” Sunburst rubbed a leg in bashfulness. “Moondancer beat me by a LARGE margin. You probably should ask her.”

“Get real. She doesn't like anypony but her friends. I feel like she'd bite me if I approached her.”

“Come on, I don't think–”

“Look, it's Shimmer and Cadenza!”

The two turned with the crowd to see the two stellar students of the academy—under the tutelage of Princess Celestia herself! — trotting down the path.

Mi Amore Cadenza: the supposed niece of Celestia. She was a pegasus with incredibly mysterious aero-magic that seemed to enchant anypony that laid eyes on her.

And Sunset Shimmer: a newer protégé with exceptional spellcasting skills and a seemingly endless well of magic at her disposal. She also happened to be Sunburst's sister.

Sunburst ducked a little behind Roux when he spotted Sunset. He didn't want her to see him.

Sunset held her chin high, seeming to ignore Cadenza's chatter in her ear. Sunburst wasn't sure if she was trying to act cool, but she had an annoyed expression that focused directly ahead. She always seemed so mad these days.

The two mares approached the boards, where Cadenza sighed so loud. “Phew! My all-nighters paid off. I hope this makes Auntie proud! What did you get, Sunshim?”

Sunset pointed as she looked for her name, then grunted in displeasure. “Not good enough. So not fair.”

Cadenza’s ears flattened a bit, searching the board. “Well…you placed lower last semester right? So it's still very good–!”

“Oh piss off already, Cadence.” Sunset pushed through a group of kids. “I didn't ask you.”

Sunburst watched her storm away, Cadenza hurrying behind Sunset.

“What was that about?” Roux whispered. “She bit her head off.”

He shook his head. “I don't know. She's quick to be mad.”

“Huh? You know Shimmer?” she tilted her head.

Crap. Sunburst rubbed the back of his head. “It's…not important. Let's just get to class.”

“Right. Isn't today we gotta get our report cards?” Roux remarked.

Gulp.

Report cards. He didn't think that part through. He grew nervous.

“Sunburst?” Roux touched his shoulder. “Are you worried? What for?”

“I…didn't tell my mom I switched classes,” he admitted.

“Why?”

“I'm worried she'll take it wrong. And she'll make this big fuss and make the principal put me back in Spellcasting.”

Bouillon blinked. “So she won't understand? Even if you're really good at it?”

“I don't think so. When my mom has her mind set, it's hard to talk to her.” Sunburst looked down.

“My dad’s kinda harsh too,” Roux admitted. “I love cooking, but he wanted me to be a scholar more. Because he couldn't make my brother do it. Hey!” She stepped closer to his face, making him nervous. “I got an idea!”

“W-what?”

“Shh!” She warned, whispering. “I'll change your report card for you! Then she won't know!”

“Ch-change…?? Are you crazy?” Sunburst panicked. “But that's wrong. If she finds out, I won't hear the end of it!”

“She won't! Don't tell anypony, but I've gotten good at it!” Roux smirked. “I do it for my brother all the time. And Dad never catches on.”

“I don't know…” Sunburst looked away.

“It'll be just a name switch. Think about it. She'll be proud, and you don't have to go back to the other course! Avoid the conflict!”

“I would think lying would add MORE conflict…”

“Fine. How's this? I’ll change it for the night. If you don't send it to your mom by morning, I'll change it back. No sweat!” Bouillon held out a hoof. “Eh?”

Sunburst hesitated. Well…he'll be letting her down either way…but he COULD go scotch free. “....Alright. I’ll think about it. ”

Later that night, Sunburst couldn't sleep, even if his short life depended on it. He just sat on his dorm room bed, staring at the paper.

It wasn't like he was changing his grades or anything. He was changing the class names. Could it be so bad?

Yes! This was still lying! Mom would be so mad and Dad would be disappointed! What if the school kicks him out for this?

Sunburst groaned and rubbed his forehead. He didn't want to tell Mom what he's been holding back either…could he claim he lost the report card? No, Mom would probably call the school for it.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

The orange unicorn jolted. Somepony at the door?

“H-hello?” He stood near the door, reluctant to open it.

“It's Sunset.”

Sunset??

“I don't have all night.” She grunted.

Sunburst cracked the door open enough to poke his head through. “Something the matter?”

“I'm visiting Mother tomorrow.” Sunset explained, “Did you get your report card?”

“No!!” Sunburst panicked.

Sunset blinked, and scrunched her nose in annoyance. “You don't have to yell. Jeez. I thought your whole grade got them today? I was just saving time.”

“Right…we did. Sorry I'm just…stressed over…homework!” He nodded and smiled nervously.

“....whatever. Give it to me.”

He did so. Get it over with.

“And stop wasting ponies' valuable time.” Sunset turned to leave.

Sunburst sighed, and moved to shut the door, when he heard his sister mumble.

“Take care of yourself.”

Did he hear that right?

I watched equestria girls videos for 2 hours straight. I discovered that sunset is an artist, a gamer, and works at a sushi place. Idk what to do with this information

I never really talk about it, but I like MLP. The only reason I bring it up is because of one, very key thing I’m thinking about right now: How the heck has Sunset Shimmer not been put in jail yet?

I know it’s a weird thing to talk about, but like, hear me out. Sunset Shimmer is effectively a criminal in the human world, no matter how you wanna slice it. I’ve thought long and hard about it, but the fact of the matter is that if this series’ human world was “realistic” and not based in the reality of a children’s cartoon, Sunset would be in jail. There are a number of things that play into this. I’ll get into them under the cut:

There are several ways of looking into this, so I’m going to cover the ones that I hear the most:

1. Sunset Shimmer’s the only Sunset Shimmer between the two worlds. 2. Sunset Shimmer’s double is in a different country. 3. Sunset Shimmer’s double is across the country. 4. Sunset Shimmer’s double is dead.

To start, let’s look at the idea that Sunset Shimmer is the only Sunset to exist between the two worlds. This, as it turns out, would be the most annoying thing to say to explain stuff, because it opens a lot of logistical issues with her existence. Namely: she has no proof of citizenship. Sunset doesn’t technically exist in the human world’s database for things like the medical system, or even the school system. She could theoretically have forged some documents, but those would be found out eventually, because of a number of factors. She could have also gone about the long, legal headache that is effectively an even harder immigration process.

The immigration process largely works the way it does because you have a history that can be traced back to when you were born, since most governments keep track of that kind of stuff for various reasons. Sunset is effectively an immigrant from Equestria, but since Equestria is a whole other dimension, it makes cross referencing databases next to impossible, especially since Equestria is, as far as we know, something that only Sunset and her friends even know about. We don’t even know if Equestria keeps records like humans do, which makes the process even more messy, assuming it was even possible to begin with.

Basically, this means that Sunset has to enter the system long after her birth, which is a logistical nightmare when it comes to paperwork and the like. Why? Because Sunset has to provide a reason as to why she didn’t exist prior to this. People don’t just appear as teenagers after all, they have to come from somewhere (or someone, technically), so not having background info makes things expensive to correct.

This can also effectively play into the whole idea of Sunset’s double being dead. Regardless as to how the double died, Sunset would have to, again, enter a legal system, this time to prove that she is, in fact, not dead. If you were declared legally dead, only to show up later, you’d have to enter the courts to prove your identity so they can overturn your death from a legal standpoint. This would mean that Sunset would have to explain how she avoided death. This would only not be the case if Sunset iced her own double, which is a pretty bleak thing to think about. It would also open up another can of worms that I don’t want to get into, but it would still, technically, make her a criminal. In the case of Sunset’s double living somewhere else, it just means that Sunset is effectively committing identity theft.

Regardless as to whether or not Sunset’s double is in the same country or not, Sunset’s status would be called into question the minute her employer does their taxes. See, most governments to my knowledge have a SIN/SSN (Social Security/Insurance Number) for the sake of taxes and other government functions. This means that if the human double of Sunset has a job, once Sunset hit the age where she could legally fill out tax forms, and get her tax returns, one of them would get in huge shit from the government. If she’s in the same country as her double, it would just be a matter of looking into the two’s backgrounds, and looking for inconsistencies. If they live in different countries though, Sunset would get in shit because she doesn’t have a visa for temp citizenship status.

Thing is, in order to get most jobs, you need a SIN/SSN number, and Sunset works in food service (A Sushi Truck specifically), so she has an income of some kind. She needs the job to have a provable source of income, which is required (in my experience anyway) to get an apartment. Heck, some apartment places as to do a background check, which would make Sunset’s situation even harder to explain away.

I know I’m thinking too hard about a kid’s show character’s status as an illegal immigrant from another dimension... but still it makes you wonder how one could explain it. If ya’ll have an answer that makes it work, then by all means tell me.

I enjoyed my morning today. Nature spoke to me today and said that I should relax more and not over think insignificant things and most importantly to not get distracted from my purpose. My being shines bright when music is audible. Music was there for me through my traumatic life experiences and music is how I cope with every negative thing that happens in my life. I am a little bit happier everyday, trying to forget my past in a way and its worth it on my end. I don't really feel comfortable talking to the closest people in my life or family about the deeper things in my life. I just have myself to figure everything out. I just feel more comfortable being independent because I've been forced too. Something I dislike a lot is when I put myself out there and I can be viewed/interacted with/manipulated and don't like releasing my control or opening the door first. I learned from those silly experiments from when I was younger. Who would've thought interacting with another human being would be so weird or absurd? We are the same but we are not compatible? That was a hard pill to swallow a couple of years ago but I'm learning SONDER and that we all are going through this journey and I just don't have room for those experiments anymore. I shed the light I had glistening within me to help others and no one reciprocated it. No one remembered. No one cared. I learned and got what I wanted and that makes me happy. I will no longer over think and question myself and question everything little thing of mine. You have your friends and the special motorcycle that Twilight gave you. They will help you along the way. You are a very special natural born leader Sunset. Just like Twilight from Equestria, when there is trouble or if they are hurt from fighting a gigantic villain, you are always there for them. You have a gift Sunset. What is the best television show you’ve ever watched? Meerkat Manor is my favorite show of all time, but as a proper show could have been better. AP made up their own shit and deviated from the KMP facts A LOT (guess what: Mozart killed a competitor's litter before; not exactly MM's her, right?), and not only was that confusing, but just annoying. Give me the real shit; don't just tweak stuff for dramatic effect. I could list a novel of lies in the series. Now, what I feel is the best show without a meerkat bias and just has an overall good plot. I kinda wanna say Supernatural, but the boys dying five million times got old. Possibly Fullmetal Alchemist. Are there any songs you can’t listen to because they bring back memories? I 110% refuse to hear "Stairway to Heaven." Have you ever saved someone’s life? Funny this is brought up after recent events. My sweetheart online bud had a cerebral aneurysm while having an extremely difficult time talking to me, and no one was home quite yet. Her final message was concerning and she didn't reply to me for a while, so I wound up messaging her again after a bit, and her boyfriend heard the b.net notification sound. Saw it was me and asked what was up. Told him, and he figured out she wasn't sleeping on the couch, she was passed out. He told me he never would have known if I hadn't said something. So does that count, even though I didn't like, physically save her? Have you ever broken any major bones? No. Are there any websites you’ve used for over 10 years? Good question? Idk. I'm in college right now, and I desperately want it to stay that way. I'm fucking going somewhere in my life, and the education it provides will bring me closer to that. It's just annoying to change clothes for like five seconds. What are your thoughts on marriage? It's sweet, but I've come to find it... kinda needless for the most part? Like I know it has financial pluses and the symbolism is beautiful, but it's just that: symbolism originating from fantasies (imo, don't scream at me). It only adds pressure to stay in a dying relationship and makes splitting much more complicated. BUT, even with all that said, I personally want to get married someday, but only if I am *sure* about this person. It's the symbolism I like. That and it's so ingrained into my head that that's the "end goal" of relationships, so I'm pretty much just conditioned to want it. How long have you lived in the current place you’re living? Two years. Do you plan on moving anytime soon, if so where? I want to, but I am not in the financial position or at a level of independence where I'm ready for that.
