Maybe she was witch but was mortal. Idk but I’m obsessed with magic user. So she’ll probably be witch again. Maybe I’ll add in that she’s been having dreams of her past life with Alucard. Idk just angst for Alucard(my little pookie I’m sorry for doing this too you). Because imagine the life of your life dying only to see her like 200 years later. Maybe Alucard’s slowly starting to forget what she sounds like and he only has miniature painting of her that he keeps with him at all times to remember her by. I’d have to watch Castlevania nocturne tho and I’m kinda busy this weekend. I’d maybe I’ll make her day job like an opera singer because those where big in that era of France.

Fast forward a long ass time and you find some cool satanic worshippers that dig the idea of conceiving your child for you and the Devil, but they actually fuck you over with the blood magic stuff they used and now your son belongs to them. You don’t find this out until you’re about to bless him during his dedication ceremony after the woman you trusted to carry your son has the baby, which you have never been happier in your existence about. Said woman has the audacity to name your baby “copy” since she used the fetus of her own baby with the current Papa to make an antichrist. You can’t tell him who he really is or who you are, and all like five of the demon kings that you hang out with that love you so fucking much can’t do anything either because of that drippy ass pendant Mr. Salty is wearing giving him Solomon top energy. Now you’re terrified of what they’re going to do with your son and wondering how long it will be until they kill him, and you can only interact with him while you’re in your silly little human cosplay. 

Oh, and your son is being raised by rats for like the first couple years of his life because his dad thought it was a good idea. He’s never seen The Omen, but if he had he totally would have given Copia a hell hound. Rats are rad too though. 

But it all kind of works out, because you really really like the current Papa’s oldest son, and so do all the other Lords of Hell, so you decide to sort of gift him/ dump a third fratellino on him AND give him a sexy vampire Prime Mover that you have blessed yourself. 

Now all the Unholy Mother can do is wait until the wrath of God can come down upon the church when Jesus arrives.

Hey so, I've been thinking on this since your newest Astarion modern pic. I want to say good job, because while I excitedly reblogged the first 2, this newest one broke me. First one- amazing. We get the set-up, it's understood. Second one-wonderful- here he is in a few options, including being sassy. Third one- OH NO. You managed to 100% get Act One Astarion energy. I actually DID NOT care for Astarion in the promos I saw because it pinged me as a put on act. It wasn't until it was confirmed I could relax and go "ah, that's the point". Seeing that in a modern context breaks me. It's one thing when the fantasy twink elf was enslaved for 200 years. It's another thing to see someone who can exist, wearing bloody nail polish (idk why that gets me so hard) with that story. Good job. I can't even reblog it, it's that fucking terribly emotional.

Oh, I'm so sorry for the impression my work has left you and hopefully this will comfort you a little bit: in my modern AU setting, star is still a vampire and Cazador is punished severely even more. I didn't strongly connect it with any of the products from the darker side of today's world, like drug control or child abduction, which will also make me sad. So apart from those, what doesn't kill star made him strong and we all know he pulled through all of this. I'll draw more free-vamp Astarion stories in the future, where he'll be sexy for his own pleasure. I promise!

I have no intention of watching the new IWTV show, but I was wondering why you think Armand's characterization was so bad. I kinda hated how Antonio Banderas played him in the 1994 movie (not on its own, just in comparison to the books - I feel like his personality/demeanor was totally different), so it's sad that they still haven't gotten him right... Judging from pictures alone, I did think the casting for him was more fitting this time. Anyway, just curious to hear your thoughts!

Oh man!!!!!!!!! I do wanna say up front, I think Antonio was NOT A GREAT ARMAND but I like those scenes in the movie so much because they feel SO RICEY to me. Like I LOVE Movie!Armand even though he isn't Book!Armand, and if you read IWTV in good faith it's the only book that doens't harp on Armand looking like a smol uwu cherub so like ! SURE. He definitely still brings the calm nurturing mentor vibe in a huge way and the scenes in his room feel the most like the books to me.

I also know from the director's commentary that they specifically wanted Armand to look like that so that the Europe vampires would feel like OLD WORLD SCARY vs like, another twink lol. So he's got a little more of a tropey Dracula vibe going on and I think like as a visual contrast it works really well.

As far as the show; I think Assad is EXCELLENT. And like the whole fandom was joking even when the credits hit IMDB that it was gonna be Armand because everyone was like "OHH ARRIGHT.. LOUIS'S """""ASSISTANT"""""" OKAY !" so like I was one of the conspiracy theorists looking for clues the whole time. And his MANNERISMS are dead on and gave him away before anything else did. I have zero issue with the actor, I think he's so spooky and a complete smokeshow which Armand DESERVES. And I wish I could like the show for him, I really do! But it's just NOT WORKING FOR ME.

I'll put the rest under a cut cause it got lengthy and I'm not trying to like be a downer on anyone's dashboard but TLDR the show is so completely unrecognizable to me and I think it would've been so much better as an original concept, and personally I'm not excited by randos who share names with the books I read. The show is a hit! People really like it! But idk like showing me these two random ass men and saying "Hey this is Daniel and Armand" doesn't excite me because the story they're showing me actually ISNT Daniel and Armand lol. I'm here for the story!!! I'm not here for Easter Eggs!

Here's my main few gripes with how they wrote Armand which I find mega disappointing:

He spends 6.9/7 episodes pretending to be Louis's assistant named Rashid. WHY! LOL. Why would he do that! DANIEL DOESN'T REMEMBER HIM ANYWAY SO WHY???????? I DONT UNDERSTAND. Like Armand is a weirdo but is he THIS WEIRD? idk. idk.

The show also (in my opinion!) horrifically botched Lestat, but there's like this grain of doubt because the show has a theme of memory being unreliable, so the speculation is that maybe Armand planted a skewed version of events in Louis's head? Even the show runner sort of hinted at this? LIKE I HATE THIS?? Because if we get to S2 and it turns out that Lestat's been misrepresented, it then turns the tables and makes it that ARMAND is the one who's horrifically botched????? Like I'm all for silly Armand jokes and memes and whatever but like. sigh idk i just looked really forward to this show and hoped to see Armand on screen and I didn't really want a meme version of him. ((Also as an aside I really dislike the unreliable memory themes on the show the way they're presented because like the books frame unreliable narration as like interpretive and emotional but the vampire lore canonically is that they have like mega supernatural photographic memory? idk. If memory is faulty because they still have that human fallibility it's one thing unless they're saying Armand planted memories in Louis's head??? idk idk.))

And like speaking towards whether or not Armand is a person who would plant false memories in Louis's head; I concede that he psychically influenced Louis to join him in IWTV but like. ARMAND IS A NUANCED CHARACTER WHO ACTS FROM A PLACE OF NEED AND HURT. And idk it's just so fucking clunky I can't imagine the manipulation taking this type of shape. There's just, to me LOL, a huge difference between the mental nudge of "You are lonely and you need guidance please come with me" and "Lestat was a horrific domestic abuser." And like. idk. Just within the package of the whole rest of the season, this team has the subtlety of dropping a fucking piano so I just have no trust in them to write him with any sense of nuance.

AND THE BIGGEST OFFENSE THAT I'M JUST COMPLETELY DISGUSTED BY IS THAT HE'S A DAYWALKER?????????????????????????????????????????????????

I just hate the daywalking shit so fucking much I can't even start. Like the show changes a lot of the lore which is fine whatever it's their show change lore if you feel like it whatever but like. ARMAND'S ENTIRE LIFE IS THEMATICALLY BOOKENDED BY DARKNESS. He grows up in a CAVE. He lives in a CULT BENEATH A CEMETARY. He tries to KILL HIMSELF by GOING INTO THE SUN.

Like. And he's only 500? That's like adolescent for a vampire LOL.

There were a couple times in the season where they had some continuity errors on the show!lore so I got the vibe that the writers didn't really care about all the VAMPIRE STUFF which is kinda disappointing to me bc I'm a nerd lol but it felt like they used Armand in the sun to just give the audience a red herring and it came across as really cheap to me. So I wouldn't put it past this team to kinda be like DAYWALKING SURE LOL and not really take it seriously or think about the larger picture of how that unfolds for the character over more seasons.

IT'S WHATEVER, I JUST. I know it wouldn't make good television but I like VC because it's like existential dread and consuming darkness, I want it to hurt me, I want it to feel bleak, I want Armand's entire arc to be about how much he struggles with the idea that there's no God. It just feels like if you can make it a few centuries and be able to withstand the sun, what's the fucking point? What sacrifice did you make for being immortal? Especially for a character like Armand who so fully believes himself to be damned and would never want to make another vampire, would never subject even an enemy to it.

Especially bc like in the show the vampires can like ? Smoke? And have sex? And they can eat food (even though it tastes like paste but they can eat food). IF YOU CAN SMOKE AND FUCK AND GO IN THE SUN YOU'RE JUST A GUY. Where's the fucking DAMNATION OF IT ALL? Also what's the fucking point of Those Who Must Be Kept if you can go in the sun lol. I just . Ugh what a clusterfuck.

The show turns vampirism into more of a power fantasy than the way the books treat it as damnation or a symbol of being othered so it doesn't really mesh with like, my idea of VC and what I want out of it.

So Armand being a daywalker = Instant Nope From Me. I'm not interested in whatever they're trying to sell me lol.

A few other things that are NOT confirmed but generally just giving me the ick that I worry about:

I really, really, deeply, truly, hated how they wrote Claudia's character and how they wrote about rape, and that gives me a really bad feeling about how they'd potentially tackle Armand's canon background. The two options are: They don't, and he's a completely different character with a different background, with completely different context for his personality/motivations/etc (in which case who the fuck cares he's just some guy who shares a name with the book I like, and not really Armand), or: They GO THERE and it's just extremely heavy handed and insensitive and not fun to watch. I think show!Claudia maybe has more in common with Armand than book!Claudia because they aged her up to be a teenager so it's just, yikes. THEN AGAIN ARMAND IS NO LONGER A TEENAGER ON THE SHOW?

And to that point like. I don't need a bunch of fucking conservatives getting in my face about how I want to see a teenager sexualized because that's not the point; logistically for TV it makes sense that he's older, but again, it changes his backstory so much. imho, Armand being turned as a teenager and looking like a teenager is a huge element of his character! It's important! It just is! And I'm sorry that the show decided that the vampires could have sex, because they invented this problem for themselves! If they kept the canon lore you wouldn't have to see them have sex anyway LOL.

I also was not a fan of the truncated timeline of the show; season 1 takes place in like 30 years I think? And covers from the beginning of the story until Lestat's murder. And I believe Louis will meet Armand in the 1940s; they have the original interview in the 70s and they're together then, and they're together in the present in 2022. Idk I'm just not impressed; humans can get divorced after 30 years too, what's the point of having immortal characters if you're not gonna stretch out the timeline? And so much happens for Armand and Louis in canon and I have no idea what's happened or not happened on the show yet, no one's really sure which events have happened yet in the present day segments of the show. So like idk there's just a lot of Armand/Louis stuff to be smushing into 70 years lol and I'm bummed that they're rushing through the timeline so much.

So I just. Sigh. There's a lot of themes in VC that I really adore that the show doesn't care about, like being VERY OLD and NEVER SEEING THE SUN AGAIN but. I'm in the minority on this one because people love the show LOL. I'm happy for everyone who likes it, but it's not for me.

And like. Just! I knew going in that it would be the Loustat Show, I think everyone knew that, I didn't have huge expectations for Armand/Daniel content but it's such a small part of the books that like it would've been nice to get a couple scenes or some gifs out of it or whatever. It just sucks that like they SET UP the series in a way that the Devil's Minion won't happen on screen. And it sucks that like, depending how long the show runs for or how long AMC retains the rights, this might be the only chance in my lifetime that I had to see Devil's Minion on screen and it's not going to happen.

It's just a bummer man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In no particular order:

1. Romeo + Juliet- I love this movie so much. Leo dicap is in his full 90s twink era , the movie is so colourful and expressive and so Shakespeare. THE best adaptation for real. When tybalt threw off his jacket to reveal the Jesus Christ tight denim vest, I was like oh my god. This is cinema. Pure vibes.

2. Suckerpunch- me and my sister watch this movie together a lot. I like movies that are very elastic, non realistic and expressive. this one hits all those points. It centers on a group of girls who are being exploited by an orphanage . They aim to escape together, which they do so through these dream action sequences. It's got p dark themes but ya still def a comfort watch.

3. Scott Pilgrim vs the world . YEAH. I watched this as a teenager , im from Toronto and I am in love with Ramona flowers like any other chump who listened to too much bright eyes in the 2010s. But fr, the way the comedy and visuals in this movie calls back to the comics is great, and the way the actors deliver their lines works for what this movie is about.

4. Amelie - another one of the elastic , unrealistic , visually interesting movies. This movie is really twee and cute but there is something about it that is a bit of a callout haha. One of those , oh no I'm in this one ! Movies. But hopeful because hey she figures it out. This one is filled with so many little snippets of other stories , little details everywhere :)) love that.

5. Back to the future- this is a movie I watched with my dad a lot. We both really like it , it's a fun romp with memorable characters and great performances like . Classic movie , easy to love. Also super cartoon-y and leaning into it.

6. Spirited away- One of my fave miazaki films and the first one I ever saw. Its a movie I've been able to evolve with , and that's a joy. As a kid I felt that sort of dreamy and sad atmosphere, but I focused on the story and the fantastical elements. As an adult, it's so clear that a lot of the miazaki movies are about young adulthood. That dreamy / sad mood hits different when you realize you're living in it, and the way the protag stumbles through everything? And is just desperately trying to get through it ..Yeah it's sooooo early 20s. You'll make it chihiro.

7. Over the garden wall - I love this miniseries so much and I aim to watch it in October. I love the music , "send me a peach" was not even in the series and it is SUCH a good song. Theres so much lore , and so many layers to the story. AND you can just feel that it was crafted with a lot of love :))) . A mini series that you can come back to and pick up a new detail and glean new meaning everytime.

here's a quick rundown on astarion: gay vampire spawn (not a vampire. like a demo version vampire. a "lesser" one but don't let him hear that) who has been kept for 200 years by his master as a slave. guy (who was an actual vampire) carved him up, tortured him and forced him to lure victims into his manor. astarion has been abused in so many ways i'd hit some sort of character limit if i listed half of them. he was only allowed to feet on rats and small vermin in the sewers. poor little meow meow astarion is now free due to [game story] reasons and seeks power and revenge -- he's an edgy fuck with a lot of swag and no moral compass. bro is a menace and loves causing problems on purpose. [slight spoiler] he will literally try to suck some of your blood like a day or two after you meet him and unless you succeed a skill check he'll just keep doing it until you die. if you resurrect yourself afterwards he'll go like "ooooh ooopsie sowwy! i wouldn't kill you if i knew you'll be back teehee can we forget about this? ;) <3 don't fucking kill me". he's such a good fucking whumpee you don't even know. it's insane. i don't want to ramble but he's almost everything i've ever wanted from a character like this in a large scale rpg. [slightly bigger spoiler] despite being the go-to "fuckable" character who everyone finds hot as hell (both in-universe and online) he's HORRIBLY traumatized by his sexual experiences from when he used to be a slave and when you romance him a good portion of his storyline revolves around trying to make him realize that he's more than just a slab of very attractive meat. he hides his feelings behind a facade of "evil tumblr sexyman-esque" mannierisms and getting to finally peel it back and see him for the poor wet cat that he is is so fucking satisfying. [an even bigger spoiler] i loved watching him cry when he finally gets to confront his former master. pristine content. there's so much more to his character (and this game in general) but if you ever need to justify spending full price on a new videogame release, there's nothing better than bg3. if i could choose one game to beam directly into the brain of each whumpblr user, it'd be this one.

Also i wish i had the opportunity to even consider buying a full price new release no matter how good the game is there is no world in which id be able to pay for that. Also idk about the gameplay either it seems very story oriented roleplay and almost dating sim-ish? Not a huge fan of those in general its gotta have more gameplay than walking around and basically watching a movie, but, again. No idea about anything, maybe it has incredible gameplay and i just dont know. Dont tell me if it does itll just make ms sadder bc that would absolutely make me wanna play it myself. Its kinda funny honestly the longer i spend not knowing anything the crazier everyone seems to me both online and irl. Its like im living in a separate world, i know no one who hasn't played this fucking game fjfhskhfd

Considering "all vampires turn bisexual once they become vampires" (which, I agree with you, feels a little wrong), there should be lots of wlw relationships but the only ones I can think of are Eudoxia and Zenobia who are described as lovers, and Rose’s guardians Aunt Julie and Aunt Marge which reads to me as lesbian parenting but it’s not explicitly said (I could be wrong about that, forgive me if I am). I know some people like to imagine Gabrielle and Jesse as a couple but it’s just headcannon. It’s a waste of good potential romances in my opinion because some characters would be SO GREAT in lesbian relationships, especially Akasha (the official man hater) and Gabrielle. I think a big part of that has to do with AR seeing mlm relationships as sexy and exciting but seeing no point in writing wlw relationships, which is super sad.

This is something I haven't talked about much but I've definitely thought about as a lesbian fan of VC. Like you said, if all vampires are "bisexual", there should be just as many relationships between women as between men. Eudoxia and Zenobia are the only canon example I can think of and honestly I hardly remember them. They certainly weren't real, actual characters.

I think this is largely an extension of AR's overall disinterest in female characters, one that grows even more obvious as the series progresses. (I'd say Claudia is the primary exception, though she isn't entirely.) That's another can of worms, but it really is the groundwork for this issue. I think the place this intersects most clearly is in Gabrielle.

The fandom jokes about AR being so misogynistic that she created a super cool butch (or transmasc, I just personally read her as butch) character aren't really an exaggeration. Gabrielle's masculinity is clearly meant to be read as a flaw and a disparaging "not like other girls" and that really says a lot about AR's feelings towards GNC women in general. Her shorthand for "bad woman" is a masculine woman (one of the only times she's really praised in the narrative is when she performs femininity, like at the end of Blood Communion).

There's so little representation for truly masculine women in media, and while it's wonderful to feel that connection to Gabrielle as a lesbian-coded character, the truth is she isn't really. Not intentionally. It's just another instance of fans improving upon canon by applying their own readings. She's just the exception that proves the rule.

Akasha is another great example, but she really reads more like an anti-feminist strawman than a real, well-rounded character. Again, it can be easy to want to cheer her on and enjoy the female power fantasy she creates, but like Gabrielle, she's another "bad woman" who AR made powerful to disparage. Her strength isn't a compliment and she isn't given the courtesy of any real complexity.

Besides AR's clear dislike for GNC/non-traditional women, there's the flip side which is the fetishization of gay male relationships. This isn't a new phenomenon to most people who have any experience with fandom, but it's a very common issue in media. If anything, I would say AR was one of the first authors to really establish this type of straight female gaze for gay men in literature.

To be quite frank, the repetition of the young, white twink in a relationship other young, white twinks has fetishization written all over it. The way they're described and the incredibly lopsided favoring of this kind of relationship in the absence of much else (besides pedo shit still involving at least one white twink and exoticized POC) is very uncomfortable, even more so alongside the absence of good female characters and the extreme sanitation of gay relationships.

The fujoshi craze isn't quite as pronounced as it once was, but the crafting of a specific type of male character in a heavily emphasized yet deeply idealized same-sex relationship that's attractive to a straight female author isn't new. It also hasn't stopped since then. In my opinion, it's the inverse of the straight male obsession with lesbian porn despite dehumanizing actual lesbians and disliking gay men.

As far as we know, AR was a straight woman and she was writing the ideal of what she wanted to see. It's obvious in her writing (and her own words) that she didn't think highly of other woman and thus she had no interest in writing them well. On top of that, lesbian relationships didn't cater to her personal fantasies (and tbh, neither did genuine gay relationships, just fetishistic, curated ones that are basically proto-yaoi).

In a perfect world, VC could be something really special. The biases of the author make it the opposite. There are huge holes in representation and what is there isn't there for the right reasons. It's not surprising that there isn't any real rep for lesbian and bisexual women, but it's disappointing nonetheless. Even more so because women are so used to relating to male characters and stories without representation that she could get away with it. This goes double for wlw who are extremely adept at that while also well-practiced at accepting not-great rep of gay men as our own because it's usually the best there is.

I guess this is just another stick in the pile of missed opportunities and offensive implications in VC.

My full IWTV thoughts/feelings/“review” (Part 2).

(I talked about what I liked in my previous post. This might read very negative but I'm not an anti or anything) Now, what I didn't like. First of all, the domestic violence. I already expressed most of my thoughts in another post, but on a sort of TLDR: It was too graphic, didn't have to happen in the first place when it wasn't in the books, and taints even more a relationship that was already toxic but we're still supposed to care about. They also should have done either just the punching and all in the house or the sky thing, both was overkill. It was disturbing to watch, and it's impossible to address it well enough if the conclusion is anything but that Loustat shouldn't be together anymore. In the topic of sensitive issues, in the same episode, adding sexual assault to Claudia's story. I'm glad that it wasn't shown, but in a way I also felt like it was glossed over way too much. So, Claudia. I think she's great, but not how her origin was handled, or her relationship with Lestat. I don't like that it's Louis who decides to turn her. It's important that it's Lestat's idea to turn Claudia. The "baby-trapping" is iconic, but also like, the way he's the one who really makes them their daughter. He's the one enthusiastic about the idea, and the show has him being annoyed and reluctant, and for what? If anything, just having him look pleased, like he has ~seen the vision~ in that moment when he says "...A daughter" would make a big difference already. Seriously, that makes much more sense to me. Lestat would be seeing a chance to hold Louis tighter to him, plus he's just the kind of extra person to want to have a little vampire daughter, and it would immediately frame his relationship with Claudia in a more positive light. But also, the fact that originally Louis fed on her, and Lestat turned her. In the book, it's framed as in that, Lestat saved her. Yes, Louis is against turning a new vampire and wouldn't do it himself, but the fact that this little girl he almost killed won't actually die is still a comfort to him. When Claudia asks him about it, he confesses, ashamed, that he was the one who killed her, Lestat gave her new life. In the show he... Heroically saves her. Yeah he could be blamed for her house burning, but that's not enough. And to make it worse, I thought that was at least gonna be somewhat used as his big sin which caused her to be turned, like when she learns he fed on her, but no. He just tells her about it out of his own volition, and it's not an issue at all. But I'd be willing to gloss over all that, if they just had what I said about Lestat enthusiastically being her dad. The whole Lestat/Antoinette thing. In the book, Lestat only meets Antoine years after Claudia. When Louis has already distanced himself from him. In the show Louis is still trying to make their relationship work. Lestat says he "likes a little variety", which is literally the opposite of what happened in the book. There Antoine is the exact same type as Louis, and Lestat is essentially using him as a rebound cause he can't have the "real thing". Besides that, I liked Antoine and I'm sad that when he'd finally have the opportunity to be in an adaptation, he's not (he didn't even have a name in IWTV, I had to google it). Like, when Louis' was being all no homo with Lestat, this little twink was giving me the gayness I wanted, I thought it was cute when he went to their house asking where Lestat was and that he wouldn't leave without telling him. With the way things ended for Antoinette I guess it's actually good that it's not him, but if they just didn't kill her I'd want it to be. Lastly, I don't think I like the whole second interview thing. It feels like a weird meta nod to the book as the first version of it, even when that interpretation doesn't work if you really attempt to follow it. I guess it brings up a fun mistery of what's up with the Louis/Armand x Daniel history, but you could still do things in a more straighforward way and it would work fine. I'll admit it has bothered me less than I thought it would though.

How they play them: Keira has very conflicting emotions about Billy. I’m a hard judge of other people’s writing at times because of my own personal standards I apply to myself (sorr I’m from the My Immortal just dropped era I’m afraid to write a big tiddy vampire girl OC sometimes) & one of those standards is if this rat bitch has conflicting emotions about your character they’re very well written.

The mun: They’re gay. As hell. Massive gay, I could smell it from a distance. I love Punky for that because I myself am a chaotic twink gremlin like gehegt pls harass me daily our crackhead energy matches perfectly I love you??? 🥺 Also I’m very biased towards people who indulge me. Pandemonium really feels like the writers had no idea what to do during asphodelos then once in abyssos they left out Athena purposefully for the Big Reveal tm of the last part of the raids so outside of Eric's fight asphodelos is just there screaming at us that lahabrea is a charismatic leader (citation and examples needed/he just publicly hurt a subordinate so y'all look bad)

Not saying they should have deleted Hesperos but he should have been clearly in on Athena's plot even if it was revealed after his death because like this he felt very much like a flat crazed gay character obsessed with a het man. The only thing he gave us was linking rdm with vampires even more and it's not like this will be ever explored.

They should have deleted the proto carbuncle especially now that Kokytos exists.

With the reveal of Hegemone all women were either killed, punished for their evil or both which is... not very Girlboss!

Lahabrea's mental degradation, knack for changing bodies despite the obvious consequences and change of attitude was not explained outside of maybe the heart of sabik also corrupted which oh! The heart of sabik! Complete asspull. Once more ivalice makes the other raids look bad when its just a homage to ff tactics.

I didn't get Athena trolling the rest of the paragons which is expected because nobody can pull a fast one on Most Ancient Emet or Elidibus, Dev Favorites. Instead she became yet another ff villain trying to become the most generic brand of god. Big sad but not surprised that me and several other people can make better theories than these writers. She's still my gamer girl queen though.

What's with elidibus choice of VA huh. Why is a boom speaker coming out of this little twink.

Oh well, there's other ways to make the ancients look bad.

The new fights ARE fun. They seem less complicated than agdistis but still good. And we are done with the ancients! That's always good news to me.

Finding the First Gay Kiss - Diary of a Big Ole Gay - 3/6/23

Hey Whores, How you been can't remember the last time we talked. Totally not staring into the abyss of fear and shitting myself. Hiiiiii.

so I'm trying my best to get some hours this month so that I can in fact pay my bills and its been stressful. But it turns out that when I'm stressed I watch a lot of movies so heres what's been going on.

Victim (1961) dir. Basil Dearden

A spirtual sucessor to Anders die als Andern this is 2 hours of a crime thriller that just so happens to be about gay people. This film is part of British New Wave which tends to be very focused on british margenilized groups and Dearden manages to be surprisingly sympathetic for the time period. Sure this film features tortured gays who don't even get to fuck a twink but this is a lot better representation then most of the queer rep during the period.

Its important to recognize the effects that censoreship had on the time period. I still have to do some research on british censorship because it is different from american censorship but suffice to say, gays weren't meant to be depicted in a wholesome way so the Tortured Gay Trope stems from that influence. Gays who wanted to stick there dick in some pussy and be "fixed" was the story people could tell with gay people so it was the story they told.

Lust for a Vampire (1971) dir. Jimmy Sangster

The second in the Karnstein Trilogy (yes I watched all three), this one is only slightly lesbian. We have nubile women walking around with there titties out, we have pretty vampire lady being a little interested in the ladies and then .... she fucks a dude.

Yeah they no homoed this lesbian vampire. This is the last in the series that has any lesbian undertones as Twins of Evil is a lot more like a classic folk horror then a lesbian vampire story. There all alright films but I was also very sad when I watched them.

The Vampire Lovers (1970) dir. Roy Ward Baker

Oh Carmilla!

This film is the most faithful to the Carmilla canon. Its a movie where Baker told the Censor board. But Hays Prude's!!!!!! this is based on a classic gothic story, the Lesbanism is like so important to the plot and she has to have her titties out to its like symbolism you know and one they like play with each others tits thats like super hot... I mean like double symbolism. We're respecting the source material.

Yeah this is a movie that centers lesbians for the male gaze and who doesn't like tittys but theres also some aspects that are just gross. Apparently the young coquette was told that her nude scenes would only be for the "Japanese Audience" and the Carmilla Actor encouraged her to go nude despite her misgivings. So its giving double predatory lesbian vibes.

I will say that this is very faithful to the plot despite the fan service and they make a point of making these vampires follow the original rules of the Le Fanu story.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) dir. Richard Brooks

Fuck I forgot how hot the two leads were. Fun Fact: This film was in color because the director wanted to show off how pretty the actors eyes were which is absolutely a good reason.

This is another Tenessee Williams play which I feel like I have a relevant quote here somewhere.

Yeah, so as we know local asshole, Will Hays, was like wah wah theres to many coke orgies in my movies about white supremacy myths, think about the children just not the ones in the mines. (yes I understand that it was a multi-person thing and this stamp licker was just the figure head I too have read Hollywood Babylon now shush), so everyone got together to write a wet blanket code to censor shit and some of that shit was THE GAYS. Thats not to say that that inherenetly stopped queer films from happening, (through the gayest Code Film I have is Slyvia Scarlet after that we mostly have a lot of queer subtext and foreign films like Clud de Femmes or the Orphic Trilogy), but as we get into the 50s and 60s the main we began to see films be more about the stigma of gayness. Theres a few different films that act out the pansy scare, (Tea & Sympathy, The Childrens Hour), were people are accused of being little homos, and these types of sexual repression films were if were lucky its something like Victim (1961) or Detective (1968) were these homos are actually gay they just hate themselves, (remember that the Hays Code was like you can have shit they just have to be villanized or shown that its a tormented lifestyle: See the Queer-Coded Villian), and at worse its just implied that this is the reason this person was sad and killed themselves. 

T-Billy plays actually work well on this front which is probably one of the reasons why so many got made during this time frame. The Hays Prudes were loosening the iron grip on queer depictions and T-Billy's Ouvre was already playing with like the specter of queer subtext so it was a match made in some prudes queer-erasasing heaven. I think that its also a testiment to the power of how gay Tenessee Williams is, that when you literally do a hachet job and try to rip out the queerness of his films. The queerness is just felt that more strongly. He was a master of somehow writting negative queer representation. Storys were the missing person in the room is on everyones mind.

So put it simply this movie has a lot of queer subtext but they also take out all of the parts of the original play that was actually super gay. Its still an amazing film but it misses points in the queer catergory due to censoreship.

A Taste of Honey (1961) dir. Tony Richardson

so lets talk about british new wave. basically it was a lot of arthouse nonsense adapting plays about disenfranchise poor brits. This film is about a bunch of british people "That just didn't exist". Namely people like single mothers, interraccial couples and a singuler gay.

I've been writing out full reviews for the last couple films and I'm just been very mentally drained lately. so if you want a bigger description check out my Letterboxd.

This films gay rep is absolutely shitty. This man doesn't even call himself gay his gal pal just insinuates it. he doesn't have a boyfriend hes literally just this artsy domestic sort and it is very lazy rep in terms of writing. Don't get me wrong as a film this disserves the accolades it has but it doesn't get points in the queer films category.

It might explain why I've had a hard time with these films as of late. The 1960s are kinda the low point of the queer movie watchlist as we arn't dealing with the sexy queer subtext, (rebecca is iconic we stan) and we arn't dealing with the bright aggresiveness of New Queer Wave so this decade is like the Queer Truama Porn of Early Queer Cinema (yeah thats what I'm calling it now)
