So I went to lunch with my dad, came back and saw a big bird over in my neighbor’s yard. I took a closer look and it was a Red-Tailed Hawk eating a dead squirrel! I have lived in the same house for 21 years and this is the very first time I have seen a red-tailed hawk eating. So I dropped everything ran inside my house as fast as I can to grab my camera and started shooting some photos. My hands were literally uncomtrobly shakiing the entire time so it was a challenge to get these photos. Anyways enjoy!

Gonna do a little anti peta zoo loving rant but this is important...
People who actually support Peta are probably the most gullible of all ppl out there.. I been researching on zoos again cause I love zoos. And came across a article written by PETA as to why zoos are bad for animals. One of the claims was that a bear in a zoo starved to death when put in hibernation WITHOUT FOOD OR WATER.
does... peta even know what hibernation is... bears do not eat, drink, or even use the bathroom when they are in hibernation mode. So then I clicked on that article to see the source. It lead me to another article written by you guess it Peta.
So my point is, people if you are gonna throw your anger at zoos and your primary source is Peta. Then you instantly loose your argument especially because Peta doesn’t actually take their sources from legit sites their links are directed back to other pages on PETA.org. Or side websites run by Peta. Not actual news stories written by new York times or any of those kind of legit publishes. What I find sad is how Peta is trying to shut down all zoos, and say all zoos are bad, and give reasons as to why but leave out the legit source of information which makes the argument just invalid. And the truth is I just read a interesting article about golden lion tamarins. And so golden lion tamarins you know this cutie here:
Tumblr media
was literally on the brink of extinction in the 1900s, in fact only 150 of them actually remaind in the wild, but thanks to zoos breeding efforts now there are 3,000 left. Which yes they are still endangered but not on the brink of extinction anymore, and now 150 zoos worldwide have them and trade with eachother to prevent inbreeding. This is a success story which Peta doesn’t want others to know the good in zoos.
Here is the article written by national geographic about the golden lion tamarins
so moral of the story do not listen to a word peta spills about zoos. They have absoulty no clue all the hard work and care these keepers put in to take care of the animals and provide them with the things they need to survive and thrive in captivity.

Let’s Talk about Invasive Species...
Hey y’all I am gonna discuss with all of you about a term known as “invasive species”
So apparently a lot and I do mean A LOT of people are completely unaware what exactly is a invasive species and why biologists call them that.
Well to put in short, invasive species, is a issue we created.
Humans decide to put a animal where they don’t belong, and that animal then destroys the ecosystem.
Let’s take a very common and known as a pet, the Red-Eared Slider. Red-Eared Sliders are a invasive species due to pet owners not wanting their pet turtle anymore cause Red-Eared Sliders (and I know since I am the owner of one) gets really big. Females can reach a foot long even. A lot of people are unaware of their size, and due to this instead of taking the turtle to a local reptile adoption place (yes they exist). or instead of asking someone you know to take them (my uncle did that when he gave me my turtle 10 years later still have her). Or doing a lot of research before adopting one so you know what you are getting yourself into. You then end up releasing them into a lake cause  in your mind you believe the turtle lives there since it is a lake. Nothing can go wrong right?
Well think again.
Red-Eared Sliders are omnivorous juveniles tend to need more meat then the adults which prefer veggies and as I know due from my turtle experience will eat ANYTHING that falls into their tank. Even if it isn’t edible they will try until they realize it isn’t food. (hence why you should never put small rocks in a turtle tank). So when you decide to put them in the lake cause you think it is where they belong, but then don’t even realize that red-eared sliders are highly adaptable and highly aggressive and will compete and chase away smaller turtles that aren’t that aggressive away and start competing with food in that ecosystem wiht other turtle species. Red-Eared Sliders reach maturitiy young making them able to reproduce at a faster rate compared to other different native turtles. And they bully other turtle species out of basking which if a turtle cannot bask they will eventually die. Basking is really important for semi-aquatic turtles. And like other captive animals, captive turtles can possibly carry diseases not familiar to native turtles causing those turtles to get the diseases too.
It is a really big problem and Red-Eared Sliders are not the only invasive species seen in the USA.
In fact 4,300 species in the USA alone have been declared an invasive species.
That means a lot of native animals in areas all around the USA have been put in danger due to people putting animal species where they do not belong. So really if you want to get rid of your captive pet please don’t toss them out in the wild. No matter what species it is. Best to give the animal away to either a family that will love it forever or to a shelter that specializes in legal exotic pets. Because by throwing your pet animal out there, you are doing way more harm then good. And I believe this PSA should be striticly enforced and learnt at even a very young age starting in elementry school, to prevent future generations from doing the same mistake.

I travel to zoos often. I been to a lot, and over the years have managed to get increasingly better at photography. So I thought I would share some of my proudest ones with you all. I did retouching on them on photoshop. The zoos these animals came from were Turtle Back Zoo, Zoo Atlanta and Kansas City Zoo. I have 0 idea if anyone will appreciate this but if it turns out y’all do then I will sure in the future post some more.
Species list:
Red-Tailed Hawk (turtle back zoo)
Masai Giraffe (turtle back zoo)
Orangutan (Zoo Atlanta)
African Lion (Zoo Atlanta)
Giant Panda (Zoo Atlanta)
Fiji Banded Iguana (Zoo Atlanta)
Caribean Flamingo (Turtle Back Zoo)
Taveta Golden Weaver (Kansas City Zoo)
Gray Wolf (i think arctic subspecies?) (Turtle Back Zoo)
Western Lowland Gorilla (Kansas City Zoo)

Sharing this fact with y’all I know this is true due to multiple sources including National Geographic says the same thing.
That’s just pathetic. Honestly how do humans claim to be the smartest animals when they do stupid things like keep a 490 lb tiger as a pet. It’s sad there are states that allow it I think it’s like 8 states. Tigers should not be kept as a pet. Forget managing and requirements that animal has the capability to maul you and eat you and the fact such dangerous animal is allowed to be kept as a pet yet pit bulls are ban in some of those states just pathetic. Pit bulls are domestic animals tigers are wild animals and do wild things. You put a tiger or any wild animal really in closed confinement without the proper education and management (like AZA zoos) and enrichment you’ll end up making the tiger go insane. It’s just sad.

Honestly going to confess about something that I just realized
I always wanted to be a zoologist, always. From when i first knew what a zoologist was I wanted to become one. It is the only career I want to do, but after looking at animal studies I see shared on FB and see the comments I have come to a conclusion that
the public doesn’t take zoology seriously... some of the comments were calling these studies stupid or a waste of time and say it is a waste of money and so forth. Or even make jokes about these studies. It honestly kind of you know hurts.. that the best field in science is not taken seriously. I tell people I want to be a zoologist and most have no idea what that is. People just don’t realize learning about animals, learning why animals do certain things, and why animals look certain ways can explain even further depth into our world.  One big mystery as to why zebras have evolved to have stripes. And many theories think they know the answer. But not one final answer has totally been proven as to why. And so I saw a article related to this and people called the study stupid. Now let me tell you something even if the study is about feces it isn’t stupid. No scientific study is stupid. Science is all about the why in the world and testing and experiment to figure out our planet and even beyond. Did you even know that a new scientific study found in great white sharks can be the way to cure cancer? Well here is the article:  zoology is important. And fun fact if people actually listen to us for once so many people would not have died due to preventable animal fatalities. A tourist in Australia decide to pick up a blue ring octopus UNKNOWNLING about how that tiny golf ball size octopus can kill them within minutes. I think she survived not sure but my  point is if people knew these things, if people understood animals, so many wouldn’t be in danger. And I believe our world would be better. Sure there will always be animal abusers but I am refering to ppl who just don’t know these things like don’t keep a 670 lb male tiger in your house.. Sorry ranting again, but I really feel like zoology is not taken seriously and decide to write this on my animal blog since this is related to zoology.

Gonna rant on cat and dog care
I'm just gonna rant on something here but look I love my cousin and my aunt and uncle and yeah but oh my god do they take horrible care of their dog and cat. Let me list the things that they are doing wrong with the animals: 1. The dog has no leash and they just have a long leash outside that they put her on but she can't go anywhere. 2. They let the dog pee and poo in the house by having wee wee pads for her. She's a four year old dog wee wee pads are meant as puppy training. And it encourage dogs to go in the house. 3. When she barks at ppl they yell at her to stop and eventually sweep her up to make her stop this just reinforce the behavior. If she's barking IGNORE HER TILL SHE STOPS. 4. The cat is declawed which is abusive but even more so is they let the cat outside to roam. Despite the fact the cat been missing for two years they still think it's a good idea to let him out. And declaw at that so he cannot defend himself or catch his prey cats use their claws a lot. They claim "well he has been a outdoor cat all his life" well you can either build a cat patio or train him slowly to only be indoors. It's possible and it can be done some more difficult then others but it can by far be done. 5. They have no litter box for him which like what if there is a tornado or a snow storm like would you really let him outside in that kind of weather to go potty. I also notice stains on the couches so it possible the cat peed on here. And just they don't listen cause they think they know what they are doing and just no you don't and just grrrr

A video I just took of my cat loving her crate. And so I am here to share some secerets as to how to get your cat to absoultly love their crate that they go in by themselves and rest in there;
Tip 1: Start them early if possible
This is crucial because when a cat is a young wee thing their bodies and brain are still developing much like a human baby. If they are exposed to things like crates, dogs, people etc at a young age, then they are less likely to become fearful of these things later in life. Of course it isn’t always possible to start them early cause sometimes ppl adopt older cats but this is a good tip if you happen to adopt a 7-8 week old cat like I did
Tip 2: Make their crate part of their home enviroment.
DO NOT hide the crate away and only bring it when needed. Instead set the crate up in a room in which they like to hang out in the most. For my cat, my bedroom  just so happens to be her fav spot. So that is where I decide to put her crate. If you let their crate be part of the envorment then they are more willing to explore the crate and check it out and be curious.
Tip 3: Put a flat bed or what ever bedding your cat pefers.
For my cat this flat bed happens to be her fav so I put that in her crate, you can buy these if you go to a cat show. Cause that is where I found my cat bed for my kitty. She absoultly loves that bed. So basically make the home cozy for them and welcoming.
Tip 4: Spray catnip on the bed (few squirts)
This I notice makes a huge difference. If your cat LOVES catnip then this tip will be helpful. Catnip is a familar scent that a lot of cats love, and if you spray something with catnip, the cat will become familarize and use it more often. (this tactic also works for scratching posts).
Tip 5: Place a fav toy in their crate
If your kitty has a fav toy that they must have then place the toy in the crate for them Since the toy has their smell on it, the crate then has a more familar scent because of the toy with the cats scent. i put one toy in their for my cat and she so happend to bring a second toy in there so now she has two toys she loves in her crate!
Tip 6: Be patience
Training cats takes more patience then training dogs, but it can be done. I mean I been working on this with Olivia since she was a kitten and now she is 7 years old and she finally loves the crate!
And those are all my tips for today folks. I am so proud of my cat she goes in daily now and loves it.

Animal Fact of the Day
Did you know? Bronx Zoo in New York, has bred more snow leopards in captivity then any other zoo in the world.
Which is also great news because snow leopards are on the Endangered Species list so breeding them helps with conversation efforts.
