2024 Reading Log, pt 2
Tumblr media
006. Gardening Can Be Murder by Marta McDowell. I honestly thought that this book was going to be about something else. With the subtitle “how poisonous plants, sinister shovels and grim gardens have inspired mystery writers”, I thought it was going to be about, you know, that. True crime themed to gardens, discussions of poisonous plants, that sort of thing. The book is actually about the mystery books that have gardening as a theme. And while the author’s dedication to not spoiling anything (seriously, anything, even 150 year old stories like The Moonstone or “Rappacini’s Daughter”) is admirable in its own way, this leaves the book feeling like endless buildup without any payoff. Big fans of murder mysteries might enjoy this—especially the last chapter, which interviews writers about their gardens—but I found it more boring than anything else, and finished it only because it was very short.

007. Antimony, Gold and Jupiter’s Wolf by Peter Wothers. This book is about how the elements got their names, and most of it deals with the early modern period, as alchemy transitioned to chemistry and then into the 19th century, when chemistry was a real science, but things like atomic theory were not yet understood. The book goes into fascinating detail, and has a lot of quotes from primary sources, as scientists then were just like scientists now, that is, opinionated and bickering with each other over their preferred explanations. And names! Many of the splits between elements and their symbols (like Na for sodium) are due to compromise attempts to appease two different factions with their preferred names. A book covering arcane minutia of history always has the risk of feeling like a slog, but this is a fast and fun read.
Tumblr media
008. Doctor Dhrolin’s Dictionary of Dinosaurs by Nathan T Barling and Michael O’Sullivan, illustrations by Mark P Witton. This book is an odd concept, but one that I was immediately on board with—a D&D book written by paleontologists with the intention of bringing accurate and interesting stats for prehistoric reptiles to the game. The fact that it’s mostly illustrated by Mark Witton definitely clinched my backing that Kickstarter. And this book is a lot of fun. So much so, that I read it all in a single sitting. I don’t know how accurate the stats are (like, a Hatzegopteryx has a higher CR than titanosaurs or T. rexes), but they seem like they’d be fun in play, and the writing does a good job of combining fantasy fun with actual education. Even for someone not running a 5e game, the stuff on how to run animals as not killing machines, and the mutation tables, could be useful. There are multiple types of playable dinosaurs, all of which seem like they’d work well at the table and avoid typical stereotypes, and a lot of in-jokes and pop culture references (like the cursed staff of unspared expense, which looks like Hammond’s cane in the Jurassic Park movie).
Tumblr media
009. Romaine Wasn’t Built in a Day by Judith Tschann. I’m a sucker for books about etymology. And this one, on food etymology, is a pretty breezy read. I had fun with it, and it even busted some misconceptions that I had, etymologically speaking. Like, there’s no evidence that “bloody” as an explicative originated from “God’s blood”? Wild. Etymology books tend to be written in a sort of stream-of-consciousness style, where talking about one word may lead down a garden path to the next one. The book also has a couple of little matching quizzes, which is something I haven’t seen in a book since like the 90s.
Tumblr media
010. The Lives of Octopuses and their Relatives by Danna Staaf. I was previously a little disappointed in The Lives of Beetles, another book in this series, but I knew I liked Staaf, who wrote the excellent book Squid Empire about cephalopod evolution and paleontology. I’m pleased to report that this book is also excellent. Staaf takes the “lives” part seriously, and the book is arranged by ecology, looking at different marine habitats, the challenges that they pose to living things, and the cephalopods that live there. Cuttlefish get slightly short shrift in this book compared to squids and octopuses, but that’s about the biggest complaint I had. I like how the species profiles cover more obscure taxa, and information about the best studied (like Pacific giant octopus and Humboldt squid) is kept to the chapters.

Welcome to Arshi Fiesta!
Phati-sari's aur Sanka Devis, hum tumka forgetyay naahi gaye hain! Hum toh ee lobhbirds ko surprisewa deve ke khatir tumka bulawat hai! Samjheev? Ab ee ka baat padho, e khoon bhari taang kaa introductionwa likh ke gayi hai dekho to jara👀
Theme Introduction: Colours of Love!
If you didn't know already, "Satrangi Re" is a song from the movie Dil Se which is based on the concept of seven stages of love depicted in Arabic Literature. Each stage is denoted by a color so let's look at Arshi's story through these colours!
1. Black for Attraction (hub)
The song starts with a hauntingly energetic tune (spooky!) and we weave through a maze of passages till we finally meet our protagonists. Quite like how Arshi started out as strangers who didn't look like a compatible match initially until all the pieces of puzzles fell into its place.
The beautiful lyrics captures the essence of their dhak-dhaks, their initial attraction that exists from their very first meet. They've hated each other, loved each other but have never ever stopped being attracted to one another. As if a magical magnetic force has kept bringing them together over and over again (guess who? Devi Maiyya of course!) 🖤
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Violet for Infatuation (uns)
Uff, Infatuation inke jaisa toh aur kisi couple me nahi hai, right? The subtle yet lingering touches, intense gaze, impulsive kiss games and everything about their chemistry is absolutely electrifying! No one does infatuation like them 💜
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. Blue for Love (ishq)
Love love love. Love took so long to blossom between them, like a long drawn out fire. Was it blazing or were there only a few embers alight? One could barely tell. Love started from care first. But they could only care once they hurt each other, right? Oh and hurt they did, they hurt each other really bad. But, isn't it only the people you care about who could hurt you? 💙
Tumblr media Tumblr media
4. Green for Trust (akidat)
Trust is tricky. Trust takes longer than love. Because you can only trust someone blindly when you love them. From the chain of broken pearls to the soft and patient unwinding of fairy lights... somewhere between that Arshi started trusting each other. And it strengthened when Arnav stepped up to dance with Khushi, strengthened again when despite all evidence against Khushi and Shyam, Arnav decided to confess his love to her... as if it was the last thing he had left to do. And later when he came to know about Garima's past, he trusted Khushi again. Because things aren't always as black and white as they look. Sometimes they're green 😉💚
Tumblr media Tumblr media
5. Yellow for Worship (ibaadat)
What is love or partnership without worship? From strangers to enemies to lovers, at each stage Arnav has worshipped Khushi. Taken care of her in ways that she needed, in ways that people around her couldn't. Tangled feelings and arms entwined in one another's. A shower of gifts, a series of intoxicated confessions. Arnav may be an atheist but if he has worshipped someone apart from his family, that's Khushi. Khushi is as good as any religion to him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6. Red for Madness (junoon)
The first thing when you think of Red is probably danger or hell-fire. And that's right too because the fierce fire they have isn't like any other. It burns and scathes. It leaves scars. It is a mad love. They hurt and insult each other, they shout at each other. Their egos are too big for one another. And when they're done hurting, they love each other just as fiercely too. ❤️
As Aakash ji has nicely put it, "Khushi ji thodi pagal hai na?". Arey Aakash ji, aapke bhai bhi thodi kam pagal hai? (Don't tell him I said that 🫢)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
7. White for Death (maut)
Death is not always about dying. Well sometimes it is... like the time when Khushi nearly dies at the cliff and Arnav fin-fucking-ally kisses her but only for CPR 😒. Or when they both pretend to die on stage as star crossed lovers Heer & Ranjha.
But death is also about other things like the death of hierarchy between them when Khushi was no longer Arnav's employee. The end of anger between them during holi after days of fooling each other with farq nahi padta post contract marriage. The end of difficulties in their path (almost) when they were about to get married again, for reals. The death of distance between them, not just physically but emotionally too, when they spend the night at the hut after running away from the goons. Like they literally met at a grave (dargah) for their second encounter, no? 😌🤍
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Accha toh tum padh li ho kaa? Haan, toh e par se tumka kachu toh banave ka pade, aage tumko khoon bhari taang hi samjhayegi okayyy?
Ab jao, thoda paani piyo aur humka bhi pila diyo haiin... Bahutay garmi hai aaj🔥 Hello hi bye bye!
Never mind sasuma, you guys! We're here to celebrate toh let's wish the couple first! A very very Happy 13th Anniversary to these two AND every single one of you who has loved them, adored and cherished them at some point!

ADHD science ramble – a comment response
So if you know me at all, you know I have ADHD and also a neuroscience degree. Meaning sometimes I ramble a lot about the science behind ADHD and ADHD meds. Generally, people appreciate it at best, or ignore it at worst – but apparently not on reddit! So, I'm coming home – forgive me for straying, Tumblr, please give me back my belief in people's ability to understand nuance.
The comment below was in response to a post asking about ADHD medication, including concerns about stimulants and addiction, and the question of "will I quit these meds or is this a life-long thing". They also mentioned "rejection sensitive dysphoria" (which is not a medical term!) and asked for other people's insights on any of these things. I tried to give that. The original post is now suddenly deleted, and the comment was invisible even before then for whatever reason (I won't speculate whether it was censored by the mods or not, it doesn't matter.)
But since those are all pretty general topics and this was a lot of effort to write, I'm re-posting it here in the hopes someone will benefit from it – it may just read a bit odd at times because it addresses the OP of that post. So if ADHD medication, treatment approaches, stigma, or emotional dysregulation are at all relevant or interesting to you, give it a glance. There's a TL:DR at the bottom as well. If Tumblr could stop bitching at me about the formatting that'd be great. Please ignore potential oddities with the list levels.
COMMENT RESPONSE IN VERBATIM
OKAY SO, buckle in my friend because you have activated my ADHD research deep dive mode. For the record and some context as to where I got all this; I have a BSc in Psychology, and did a research masters in cognitive and clinical neuroscience. Throughout both degree programs, I've written every single paper I could choose the topic for about some aspect of ADHD. (I do not have a license for psychotherapy yet, but I am getting one.) I also just have ADHD myself. What I’m trying to say is: I know way too much about ADHD and now I must tell you about it because what else am I supposed to do with it — ANYWAY … I should probably structure this somehow so it’s less overwhelming. We’ll try this:
Medication
Strattera/Atomoxetine (ATX); how it works, why it may or may not be working for you
Stimulants; how it works, evidence regarding the risk of dependency and abuse, connections to other substance use (since you mentioned nicotine)
Long-term treatment plans; factors to consider / questions for you to evaluate for yourself
RSD — probably a rant, first; why buzzwords are counterproductive even if the experience is 100% valid
Emotional dysregulation; research again, also potentially about meds
rejection sensitivity slkjdsjfs it escalated, help
Community and peer support
Yes? Yes. Feel free to skip any parts that are too sciency, if that doesn’t interest you!
First of all, congratulations on your diagnosis! You’ve already made one of the hardest steps. But let’s get into it, shall we?
ADHD Medication
Non-stimulants / Atomoxetine (ATX)
I must say, I am quite surprised that you were prescribed ATX as your first option, given that stimulants are very firmly established as first-line treatment.
Regardless, a couple of facts about it: ATX is a selective noradrenaline (NA) reuptake inhibitor, which also affects dopamine (DA) levels, specifically in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) because— well because brain chemistry. (I’m trying very hard to keep this simple, can you tell?) Basically, the idea is to regulate DA levels through an indirect mechanism via NA. And that works pretty well, generally. ATX is effective for approximately 50-60% of people, and the effects reach moderate strength.
Now you said that you don’t really notice any effect; that can have several possible reasons:
It just doesn’t work for you; 50-60% of people show a response, sure — but the other 40-50% do not! Unfortunately it is possible that you simply are part of those 40-50% non-responders.
The exact mechanisms of that are still unclear, but there are many factors that might influence someone’s drug response, including individual differences in metabolism, genetic factors etc. --- we’re still researching that
ATX, unlike stimulants, doesn’t necessarily have immediate effects. Full therapeutic effects are generally not evaluated until at least 2-3 weeks after starting it. That also means that the effects can develop slowly, which can make them harder to notice because it’s a somewhat gradual change.
On top of that, if your doctor is even the slightest shred of competent (which I hope), they’ll probably have started at a fairly low dose, meaning that;
you might just not feel it yet, but the effect may still emerge
you might need a higher dose; if that’s the case, this increase is generally done step-wise and quite slowly, to monitor the effects (and side-effects) properly. I suggest asking your doctors about what kind of trajectory they have in mind, so you can decide whether that suits you.
You mentioned mood swings; definitely mention that to your doctor! Psychological side-effects of ATX should be closely monitored
Note that this is especially important if someone has (potentially undiagnosed) comorbid disorders. I don’t know whether that’s the case for you, but better to be aware either way.
All that said, I also take ATX and I must say that on its own its effects are barely noticeable for me. It’s only because I know that my symptoms can be worse that I even consider it effective. I am an unusual case, though, regarding med-response etc. and I take ATX in combination with Elvanse (Lisdexamfetamine; LDX).
Which I guess brings us to stimulants. You say you’re reluctant out of fear to form a dependency, if I understand correctly. Well, the research is quite interesting in that regard — but let’s cover the basics first.
Stimulants
Stimulants, i.e., various types of amphetamines (AMP) and methylphenidates (MPH), are the standard first-line treatment for ADHD. Both AMP- and MPH-class drugs essentially increase the efficiency of the PFC —same as ATX — but where ATX only directly targets NA, AMP and MPH inhibit the reuptake of DA itself as well as NA reuptake. This direct effect on DA levels is basically (very basic; oversimplified even) what makes them stimulants. It is also likely the root for your concerns about dependence risks, because DA is involved in our reward-system in the brain — i.e. the thing that tells you “i want more of this”.
So, yeah, these concerns are not unfounded, HOWEVER
It is important to remember/note that a lot of the public narrative around ADHD and ADHD medication is heavily distorted by stigma. The number of people who worry about stimulants being addictive is leagues away from the actual prevalence of stimulant abuse/dependence.
This also kinda ties into your question about whether you will stop taking meds at some point or not; the idea that treatment must be temporary roots in the stigmatisation of mental health treatment.
I’m not saying that life-long medication treatment is a delight and a joy, but I also don’t think that it is the ultimate evil it’s sometimes made out to be. –– EXAMPLE: Think of a diabetic; they will need insulin for the rest of their life, but in their case nobody would ever suggest that them taking it is somehow a bad thing.
Mental health in general is unfortunately still heavily stigmatised, and that also impacts the narrative around treatment options, including medication. And more often than not, public beliefs about psychiatric conditions are downright and blatantly wrong.
In this particular case, actual research indicates that stimulant treatment actually decreases the risk for substance abuse in ADHDers. (Generally, adequate ADHD treatment reduces risks for all sorts of unpleasant things, like comorbid disorders, social isolation, divorce, accidents — I could go on. Not the point.)
The point is that overall, from a research perspective, the risk of drug dependence due to stimulant medication is quite low. Hell, literally everyone I know who takes ADHD meds will go “shit I forgot my meds” at least every other month or so.
Of course that doesn’t mean that we can all just pop stims however we like without a care in the world. As with any other medication, monitoring effects and side-effects together with a doctor is key.
With all that said, there is good reason why stimulants are first-line treatment for ADHD: 65-80% of people show a treatment response, and for a lot of people who don’t initially experience an effect, switching to another type of stimulant will often do the trick (total response rates of ~90%). Besides the fact that they work for more people, they also generally work better than non-stimulants, meaning that the symptom improvements are stronger for stimulants. Does this mean you should just get over yourself and go for stimulants because they’re clearly superior? Of course not.
Medication response is ultimately a very individual thing; it is basically impossible to know how you’ll react to any given medication before you try it. So in the end, it really comes down to what you want. It’s your decision, based on your priorities and values.
The same goes for your question of “will I take these meds forever” — that’s up to you!
Generally speaking, ADHD doesn’t go away. It is not something you grow out of any more than you can grow a second brain to replace the one you have. And our brains have ADHD. So, symptom-wise, we will always experience ADHD to some degree at least.
Of course, there are plenty of other treatment approaches such as CBT and literal mountains of helpful strategies to learn about and use. And that’s wonderful! Still, therapy alone is generally considered less effective than meds, but it does help. The best treatment approaches are multimodal, i.e. a combination of pharmacological treatment and behavioural interventions. Aka we take meds and go to therapy. Amazing.
So let’s say you’ve taken meds for a while, you’ve gone to therapy, you’ve learnt all the strategies — you decide to quit the meds. What happens?
Well first of all, nobody can know that beforehand, so keep in mind that these are hypothetical assumptions based on scenarios that research described as likely
Anyway, you quit whatever meds that ended up working for you. Ideally, you do that slowly so you don’t have any withdrawal issues, but eventually you’re off the meds. As a result, your brain isn’t getting that neurotransmitter boost anymore that the meds created (though some research shows that some benefits might persist, yay!), meaning that cognitive impairments are stronger again.
Does this mean all your symptoms come back? Well, yes and no. On a basic brain level, impairments return at least in part, but the strategies you learnt in therapy might still help you cope with those impairments better than you used to before.
So you might be overall more functional, thanks to those strategies, yes.
But strategies will not fix your brain chemistry, and if there’s no dopamine there’s no dopamine, and suddenly you spent all day in bed. Or you’re staring at your work open in front of you feeling like there’s a thick panel of glass between you and your screen/keyboard and you just cannot make yourself type. These things won’t go away, and strategies will not always do the trick
Personally, I dread the idea of living my life entirely off meds. My main hobby is writing, which is nearly impossible without my meds — and even if I had a less challenging hobby; I want to do things in life, not waste my time trying to get myself to brush my teeth. But, again, that is a very personal decision that you ultimately have to make for yourself.
Still, here are a few things to consider that might help you evaluate your options:
Need — what are your primary needs? Which symptoms are impacting you most? (Yes I’m getting to the RSD sfksjhgj)
Want — what are things you want beyond the most important needs? Where do your priorities lie?
Benefit — what benefit are you getting from [medication X]? How much positive effect does it have on your symptoms? On your life as a whole?
Need-benefit — do the benefits fulfil your essential needs? —> if not, that’s probably not the right med for you
Want-benefit — do the benefits fulfil your wants beyond the essentials?
Cost — what costs is [medication X] causing you? Do you have side-effects, if so what are they, how bad, how frequent?
Cost-benefit — do the benefits outweigh the costs, on a somewhat objective level? (effects vs side-effects)
Cost-benefit-want — Are the benefits worth the costs, also taking your individual values, concerns and goals into account?
This last one can get quite complicated, I’ll admit, but in the end I feel like this one is what tips the scale for a lot of people.
You could have the most amazing improvements, if you suffer side effects that keep you from something that is important to you, it’s probably not worth it in the end.
Vice versa, in my case, if it means I can write, I will accept that I’ll feel incredibly nauseated on some days for like 1-3 hours. It all comes down to individual choices in the end.
-deep breath- So, that was a lot, whops. So much, that I should actually go and work, so I’ll try to keep the RSD thing short. Conveniently, the AutoMod already summed up the most important bits:
RSD is not a recognised medical term
Instead of RSD, it is better to use concepts and terminology with solidly established definitions such as emotional dysregulation and rejection sensitivity to talk about the experiences people tend to label RSD
This is particularly important when consulting mental health professionals; well established concepts enable them to assess your symptoms and needs better than vague, ill-defined buzzwords. I have had people tell me they were going to switch to another doctor because theirs wasn’t familiar with RSD --- that is an issue!
Buzzwords like that tend to hinder treatment progress, because they are too vague to be properly informative. Most people have a very specific conceptual definition of RSD --- namely the one that describes their own symptoms best.
That renders it basically useless as a communicative device. Doctors cannot mind-read; you are doing yourself a favour if your communication (including terminology) is as clear as possible.
Obviously nobody expects you to know specialised medical terms --- just try to avoid buzzwords; of any kind! RSD is just a very very popular one and therefore warrants repeated clarification.
Now, just cause it’s not A Thing(tm), doesn’t mean it’s not a problem. And yes, the experience of rejection sensitivity in ADHD is valid and should not be dismissed!
Emotional dysregulation is actually one of the most prevalent and most impacting symptoms of ADHD, but because it isn’t part of the diagnostic criteria, a lot of people aren’t even aware of how much ADHD impacts emotions — and how much that impacts life for ADHDers. Emotional dysregulation leads to all sorts of other problems, like social isolation or comborbid mood disorders like depression or bipolar. So, clearly, it’s something should be addressed when it comes to treatment.
And would you look at that, they did! Yay!
Research shows that stimulants are effective for reducing symptoms of emotional dysregulation; as mentioned earlier, ideally you combine that with therapy.
Especially for emotional dysregulation, therapy — not just strategies, therapy — can be very beneficial, because emotions are hard. A lot of ADHDers, especially those that only get their diagnosis in adulthood, develop suboptimal coping mechanisms throughout their life that are very hard to dismantle without help. But resolving those patterns often makes an immense impact on the general quality of life.
Conclusion: Get a good therapist. It’s worth it. (Good = someone you trust and click with, you have to be comfortable.)
Now, one last thing (almost done I promise), because you said you don’t really have anyone to talk to about this:
I strongly encourage you to actively seek out ADHD communities in a format that lends itself to connecting with people on a personal level.
So, quick story time: Back in 2018, I (by complete coincidence) stumbled over a video of a TEDxTalk about ADHD on Patreon – who even browses Patreon?! Anyway, I watched it. Cried. A lot. Backed that Patreon immediately, before even looking at the actual YouTube channel it was for. The Patreon came with Discord rewards — I had never heard of Discord but there’s nothing like ADHD impulsivity, so I made a Discord account and joined that server.
Literally my whole life has changed since then. My perspective on ADHD has changed so so much simply through seeing other people having the same struggles, and yet they were still unique. And it was a wild ride. I look at some of the beliefs I used to have and am baffled at myself. But that’s not the main point, though knowledge always does help. No, the main point isn’t another strategy or lifehack. The main point are friends. True, actual friends who accept you, but also understand you.
When I joined that server, I very quickly met a lot of people. It was wonderful to suddenly be in a space where people related to my experiences that had previously always singled me out as weird or rude or incompetent or whatever. And all those people were lovely, but they’re not the friends I mean; most of them I am not in touch with anymore. I mean the select few. They are what made the biggest difference for me. I met one of my top two best friends like 2 months after joining the server, when we both became moderators. We later did community management together for over a year, until I moved on to other things — they are still Community Manager there! I flew to the other side of the planet for their wedding. We spend hours on video chat sometimes, both just working and hanging out because we like each other’s company (and it helps us focus). I can tell them anything, even if I hate what I did or didn’t do or say or think.
Those friends.
And I don’t know you, obviously, so maybe you already have that friend, in which case I’m very happy for you. But judging by your statement that you have nobody to talk to—
I’m not saying that joining an ADHD community will magically drop a best friend for you out of the sky, but it’s honestly not a bad start. Simply gaining the peer support of people who understand and relate to your experiences is worth it.
Okay, phew. Now I’m done. For your convenience;
TL;DR
non-stimulants might still take effect or you might need a different dose
stimulants are heavily stigmatised and the actual risk for substance dependence is quite low if the treatment is properly monitored by a medical professional
ADHD doesn’t go away; we will always have ADHD brains and there will always be issues that cannot be solved with strategies
It’s up to you to decide whether you want to take medication for it, and whether you want to take them long-term or not. I personally am fairly certain that I will continue to take these meds as long as I can. Even though there are downsides, the benefits are more than worth it for me.
Emotions are hard, everyone should go to therapy.
Make ADHD friends! (I personally really like Discord communities; I can recommend the HowToADHD community — that’s the server I mentioned earlier — but it’s unfortunately behind a (very low) paywall. If you don’t know that YouTube channel, I’d also recommend checking out Jess’s videos.)
But back to the point: Friends. Whichever platform you are comfortable with – try connecting with people beyond surface level conversations in public comments/threads/channels. Slide into those DMs!
And that’s all. That was way too long and I apologise. I hope any of it was helpful and understandable, I know I can get a bit sciency sometimes. If anything is unclear just ask. Good luck with your journey! It might be hard in the beginning, but it gets easier with time, I promise.
END VERBATIM
I hope anyone finds this useful, if only for validation. Shit's hard, but we'll all be fine, together.

(the 2 most voted elements will continue onto round 2!)
More info about each element (and propaganda for the ones I like) under the cut. pleeeeeeeeease read some of them at least the one about francium
(disclaimer: these are based off short wikipedia reads and my crumbling high school chemistry knowledge. correct me if I'm wrong about anything.)
HYDROGEN: Hydrogen is the lightest element (consisting of only one proton and one electron). It is also the most abundant element in the universe, it's a gas (at room temperature) and it can explode. It's also quite representative of acids, having the (Arrhenius) definition of an acid straight up saying that it has to dissociate in water to form H+ ions. It's also quite an efficient fuel. Hydrogen is anywhere and Hydrogen is everywhere. If you like explosions, sour beverages, or acid in general, consider voting Hydrogen!
LITHIUM: Lithium, under standard conditions, is by far the least dense metal and the least dense solid element! You may primarily know him from your phone's Lithium-ion batteries. There are Lithium-based drugs used to treat mental illnesses. You can throw a block of lithium in water and it will make a really big explosion. The metal is soft and silvery. I'm running out of things to say about him. If you like batteries vote Lithium? (edit: just realised lithium is used for batteries, and batteries are connected to robotics and engineering. if you like robots and cool mechanical stuff vote lithium!)
SODIUM: You must know him from table salt. That's actually NaCl, his best known involvement. There are many more very important and very commonplace compounds that involve sodium, such as baking soda (NaHCO3) and sodium hydroxide (NaOH) (that's probably the most famous base?). It's also very important to the human body (you shouldn't eat more than 2300mg a day). If you've ever used table salt or baking soda while cooking, consider voting Sodium!
POTASSIUM: Their name was based on the word potash, which was based on an early and easy way of obtaining potassium, from putting ash in a pot, adding water, heating, and evaporating the solution. It's used in a lot of fertilisers because it's an essential plant nutrient. It's also involved in a ton of important compounds: KOH (a strong base), KNO3 (often used as salt bridges in electrochemical cells), K2CrO7 (an oxidising agent often used in organic synthesis), and K2CrO4 (I don't know what this one does). If you have ever eaten food from fertilisers consider voting Potassium!
RUBIDIUM: Rubidium compounds are sometimes used in fireworks to give them a purple color. They've also got a cool name, based on the latin rubidius, for deep red (the color of its emission spectrum). I'll be real, I don't really know much about them beyond that, but that is one cool name. Vote for Rubidium if you like cool names.
CAESIUM: Caesium is used in the definition for a second, meaning that an entire SI unit is based on it! A second can be defined as "the duration of 9,192,631,770 cycles of microwave light absorbed or emitted by the hyperfine transition of caesium-133 atoms in their ground state undisturbed by external fields". It was also discovered from mineral water. Did you know that they had to use 44000 liters of water to find her? If you've ever experienced time or had a conception of it in terms of units, consider voting Caesium!!!
FRANCIUM!!!: Caesium... TWO! It's sad that no one will probably read this far but this is my favourite element in this poll. This element is characterised by instability. Her longest half-life is 22 minutes. Her entire existence was conjoint with Caesium before they discovered that she was her own element. She has never been seen. They literally never confirmed what color she is. She was born in a wet cardboard box all alone. Through the hands of different scientists, she was going to be named after Russia, Virginia, or Moldavia at different points in time. At one point the name catium was proposed (for "cation", since she was believed to be the most electropositive cation), but was rejected because it sounded like a cat element. Which is so fucking sad. We could've had cat element but we ended up with France element. That's right she's also named after France. Just tragic fascinating existence overall. Also isn't it just insane that her half-life is only 22 minutes? Dude, you don't get it, the most of her that's ever existed in one place is a mere 300000 atoms. She's here and she's gone. What the hell.
The charm of Francium can be summarised by the wise words of my good friend Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart:

𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲 [teaser]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pair:  Na Jaemin x female reader Genre:  Fluff, smut, strangers to lovers, angst Teaser WC:  1.4k Estimated Full WC:  15k-25k Synopsis:  When visiting your friends for a week, you opt to stay in a hotel rather than take up space in one of their apartments. Seeing your friends after so long is a trip that needs both preparing for and detoxing from, so the alone time and suspension from life that the hotel offers is ideal. What you didn’t expect the hotel to provide, however, is a man with whom your chemistry flies through the roof and bursts out the windows of the twenty-story building you’re both tauntingly enclosed in. Teaser warnings:  Alcohol consumption
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The driver pulls up to your hotel, nearly one in the morning, and you feel the relief already settling in your chest. Your room is right up there, along with your cozy clothes and respite. Comfort is close. But even with dawning alone time and your bed that you swear you can hear calling your name, you find yourself suddenly upset.
“We’ll see you tomorrow! Tonight was just a glimpse of the week that’s to come,” Jane says, and if that were a text, you’re sure there would be a dancing woman emoji and a couple sparkle emojis at the end. You know they think this week is going to be the greatest yet, and maybe bits and pieces of it will amount to something wonderful. But right now, in the moments after your first night seeing them again, you feel a bit behind.
You feel like your life hasn’t been moving as quickly as you thought it was. You have a good job with stable income, you have a dog, and you’re living in your favorite place. But is it enough? Looking at your friends’ executive positions, May getting a promotion, and Jane recently moving into a beautiful brand new apartment with her boyfriend and engagement likely on the horizon, you find yourself questioning if the life you’ve made for yourself so far is really good enough for you. You wonder if it’s good enough.
There’s no one on the street around you, and in this short moment alone between the car now pulling away and the door leading to your R&R, you feel a tear descend your cheek.
A whole week. You have to manage a whole week, and judging by the influx of new, daunting thoughts, that’s going to be difficult. Hell, it’s going to be impossible.
Wiping the tears from your face and sniffling, you stumble through the front door of the hotel into the lobby. It’s classy and chic but far from large, with the front desk up a bit and to your left, directly across from the elevators, and a seating area to your right next to the windows. There’s a bar area just over yonder, but you haven’t had a chance to check it out yet. When searching for a hotel to book, you splurged a bit and through some loopholes, you found a better room package than what your price range offered.
You didn’t think you had drank that much until entering the silence of this lobby. With no voices yelling over the other, cars honking, or music blaring, there’s no distraction from your current state: you’re drunk, light-headed from both the alcohol and the remnants of your sadness.
There are two people at the front desk, one sitting on his phone while the other does something on the computer. The one who you assume is actually doing his job is the one that checked you in earlier. He’s handsome, you won’t lie, his friendly grin being a nice welcome. You do your best not to stumble or fall on your way to the elevator, and you swear you’re good to go, until your ankle buckles in your heels.
Your knee hits the marble floor, and despite your inebriated state, the pain is fighting its way through, and what a sobering pain it is.
A hand rests at your shoulder, hesitant but firm. “Are you alright?”
You sniffle, trying to maintain composed. “I’m fine.”
His hand scoops under your arm, the other coming to grip just below, and he helps you back to your feet. “Are you sure? It looks like you’re crying.”
Great. Your makeup is running, because of course it would. You were crying. “I’m fine,” you double down, and he nods. For some reason, under his concerned gaze, you feel the need to clarify this situation. “I didn’t fall because I’m drunk, by the way. It’s these stupid heels.” Heels that you wouldn’t be wearing if you were home.
 “Okay,” he smiles.
“I’m serious.” His eyes waver between yours, and it’s then that you realize he’s still holding your arm. “These stupid, dumb heels.”
 “Okay, Miss. I believe you.”
You nod, taking a step away from him and out of his grip. He isn’t persistent, doesn’t walk with you or reach to grab for your arm again. He simply lets you continue on your way to the elevator, but for some reason, part of you wishes he would insist on staying with you. That same part of you wishes he’d link his arm through yours, guide you into the small space where he’d make sure you got to your room without your silly heels betraying you again. But this is the part of you that gets affectionate when drunk, looking for any opening to hug or touch someone. The part of you that shelters a desire for human contact, even if you tell yourself you don’t crave the emotional aspect that can tie itself to such actions.
As you wait for the elevator doors to open, you stand clutching your purse, head hanging to stare at the floor, and you feel drowsiness mend with intoxication to overcome your senses. It makes you lean a bit to the left, to the right, until you force yourself fully awake, willing yourself not to fall again—this time not because of your heels.
You turn, and the man is still standing where you left him, watching you carefully.
He flashes a worried smile, you return with a sheepish one. “Hey, would you… Is it okay if you, um…” you trail. The man turns toward the front desk, gestures toward the other guy stationed there, and finds his spot once again next to you. You loop your arm through his just as you had imagined him doing moments prior, and he holds his arm firm, letting you hang as you please.
Entering the elevator, he looks at you expectantly. “Floor?”
 “Sixteen.”
“Nice. City view room?” he asks, taking a step back so you can lean against the back wall.
You lean a little more against his arm. “Yeah. A real bang for my buck.”
He nods. “Soaking up the new setting while you’re away from home, I’m assuming?”
“Not necessarily,” you cross your ankles, bringing your hand up to rest on his bicep. He’s comfortable, and every second that passes, every floor, you just want to curl into him more. “I live in the city and I love my city so much, so I booked a skyline view. When you’re up this high, surrounded by other skyscrapers, other windows, suddenly it’s just another city. There are no specific indications that it’s a certain place, so for all I know, it could be my city.” At some point, your thumb began rubbing up and down against the arm of his suit. Must be the sleek material. “If I get upset or anxious, I can just look out the window, and pretend I’m home.”
The elevator door opens, and you don’t want to walk out. He doesn’t take a step either, and if the doors weren’t programmed to close after a certain amount of time, you’d stand here all night.
“I’m, uh,” you uncross your ankles, standing a bit straighter. “I’m 1601.”
He clears his throat, nods, and proceeds to walk you both patiently out of the elevator and toward your room. Your steps are slow, and whether that’s because your feet and ankles hurt or because you’re being careful so as not to fall again, or maybe it’s because you don’t want to leave him just yet. “Well, you’re home,” he says, both coming to a stop at your door.
You giggle as you fish for your room key. He reluctantly lets go of your arm, but upon finding the card, you turn to him. “I never got your name.”
 “Jaemin.”
 “Y/N,” you offer, hand outstretched.
Jaemin takes your hand to shake, but his grasp lingers, letting your joined hands fall between your bodies.
The moment you stepped out of that car and onto the sidewalk, all you wanted was to be alone. You wanted to take these stupid heels off, replace this tight dress with sweatpants and a sweatshirt, watch a movie, and maybe throw a bath into the mix somewhere. Now, as you stand in front of this mysterious, kind man, you feel inclined to stay with him.
“I know this is probably stupid of me to even ask. I know you’re on the clock and this is probably completely against regulation,” you start, suddenly growing shy in his company. “Can you come in? Even if it’s just for a second.”
Jaemin rocks onto his heels, visibly debating whether or not he should, and you immediately feel bad for asking. Your lips part, ready to tell him to forget it, but before you have a chance to retract your offer, he falls back onto his feet with a warm smile. Warmer than the comfy clothes you’re about to don. “Yeah. Yeah, I can do that.”

Best of the Reptiles in Media - 02 - Heart
Here we are again taking a look at some of my favorite scaly heroes. And this time, we go to the realm of animation. That golden frontier where anything is possible.
A lot of people have asked me what my favorite animated film is. And ever since 2016, I've had the definitive answer. It's a film from Japan staring who might be one of my favorite animated protagonists of all time. One that I wish was recognized by way more people than just the cult following his movie got.
You could say that this character...has a special place in my Heart.
Tumblr media
And yes, that is his name. You'll learn to appreciate it.
Omae Umasou da na (You are Umasou) (2010) is an anime adaptation of a series of children's books revolving around a belligerent Tyrannosaurus Rex who ends up adopting a baby Ankylosaurus, with all the mishaps that implies. I'll admit, when I heard about this film for the first time, I wasn't sure what to think. Surely, this free film uploaded to Youtube wouldn't possibly--
It proceeded to rewrite my brain chemistry forever. It really is a great film. It's beautiful to look at, the animation is really action-packed and cute at the same time, it's got a gripping story (which I'll get into), and above all, it's main character is a martial arts-practicing Godzilla-looking T-Rex who engages in interspecies adoption. WHAT MORE COULD I HAVE ASKED FOR?!
But enough beating around the bush, why is Heart so compelling to me?
Let's start with an introduction. Heart is a Tyrannosaurus Rex from a prehistoric world whose lost egg winds up found and adopted by a kindly Maiasaura. Unfortunately, a carefree life of fun and peace with his mom and half-brother Light is brought to an end when he discovers his true nature as a "Big Jaw" (as in, carnivore). After running away out of fear of what he might do to his family, he grows up hardening both his soul and his combat skills so that he may survive the unforgiving badlands outside of the forest he grew up in (complete with training montage).
Then, as if life wasn't done throwing him curve balls, Heart is imprinted upon by a little baby Ankylosaurus he was just about to eat (complete with calling him the Japanese word for delicious, hence the name). Soon, Heart is caught between going with his true nature or taking a few cues from his own adoptive mother...
Design-wise, Heart isn't winning any accuracy contests, but then again, no creature here is. And it hardly matters, either. This dino manages to find a great balance between looking like the kind of character I'd want a plushie of (seriously, why haven't we gotten on to that) and one that conveys great ferocity and coolness. A major part of how that's conveyed is his expressions. This guy is a GOLDMINE of reaction faces for almost every occasion. So much so that, long ago on my Instagram page, I posted a compilation of faces that either cracked me up or just showed his facial range in general.
Tumblr media
What's your favorite? Let me know in the notes/reblogs!
Anyway, then there's when he fights. And MAN, does it go hard! Heart doesn't exactly wear kiddie gloves when he's put in a combat situation, utilizing heavy kicks and deceptive agility as his opponents barely keep pace. We see him go up against sauropods and other Big Jaws, and really, I just need to show you these GIFs to sum up what it's like.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But that's not where Heart truly shines. It's his role in the narrative. You see, in most dino media aimed towards younger audiences, the big mean carnivore is the villain. This was most prevalent in works like The Land Before Time with Sharptooth, and the Carnotaurs from Disney's Dinosaur (both of which were the stuff of nightmares for little dino nerds like me). Not that this is necessarily a bad thing. Giant theropod dinosaurs are indeed scary, so of course they make for good villains. But then you consider that most of these predators aren't hunting our adorable plant-munching protags because they're evil. It's just in their nature as predators. What are they gonna do? Go vegan?
And that's the troublesome crossroads Heart finds himself at. You could say this film offers a deconstruction of the "vicious meat-eating dinosaur" archetype. The Anti-Sharptooth, if you will. We're obviously meant to root for him because he's the protagonist and an altogether pleasant guy, but at the same time, both herbivore and carnivore are fully-sapient beings here, and Heart must feed.
Tumblr media
The film does NOT restrain from showing him hunt down his prey, but it has the intelligence to show that this is not malice or even pleasure, it's simple survival instinct. He is a huge shade of grey in what would otherwise be a very black-and-white scenario in any other film. And it gets even harder for Heart when Umasou enters the picture.
Tumblr media
For the record, almost all of Heart and Umasou's interactions are the definition of adorable. Little Umasou is such a little ball of sunshine both inside and out, and poor Heart just doesn't have the...well, heart...to either eat or abandon him. Seeing his exasperation while keeping him safe while also training him in the ways of fighting like an anime protagonist (complete with training montage) is all kinds of endearing and a testament to Heart's strength of character. Of course, it leads to the inevitable point where he has to let him go...but unlike the source material, it doesn't take. Umasou knows that he and his adoptive dad are as different as can be, but he doesn't care. He's his family, and vice versa, something Heart comes to accept whole-heartedly (I did it again, didn't I).
And with that, the ending to this amazing nature vs. nurture story is very bittersweet, starting with Heart and Umasou reuniting with the former's mom.
Tumblr media
Actually, before I keep going, I just want you to know that this scene in which they finally see each other again made me go from "wow, great movie, ten out of ten" to "I NEED TO TALK TO MY MOM!!!" in less than a minute. Seriously, if you're looking to strengthen your maternal bonds, watch this movie and watch the magic happen.
Aaaaanyway, after a heated battle between Heart and the one implied to be his real dad, the truth remains that he can't stay. He's resigned himself to a life as an outcast, never being compatible with his parent and brother's kind while at the same time being shunned by his fellow Big Jaw for adopting food. Nevertheless, he leaves in high spirits, having mended what had for the longest time been a broken bond. That, and he doesn't have to be a straggler alone, anyhow.
Tumblr media
Really, Heart is everything I love about a lot of protags in one big package. He's a reptile (a dinosaur no less), he's a badass, he's a nice guy, he rages against what he is in order to be WHO he wants to be, and he's undoubtedly dad of the year. I hope more people come to recognize and appreciate him as much as I do.
Also, he's heavily implied to be in a steady relationship with an adorable Elasmosaurus, so he's got that "interspecies romance" trope possibly going for him too! C'mon, fellow You are Umasou fans old and hopefully new, you can't tell me you don't see it too!

when you forget to rsvp to j-hope's listening party, you take it upon yourself to make it up to him.
✨ title: safety zone | ✨ pairing: hoseok x ceo f!reader ✨ word count: 5.3k | ✨ rating: m/18+ | minors dni ✨ genre: strangers-to-lovers, idol!au, mutual pining, pwp, smut ✨ warnings: alcohol consumption, cursing, kissing, oral (m,f receiving), fingering, consented sex, unprotected sex, mc is on the pill, they're both clean, use of the word slut, sex against the wall, I also suck at writing smut, so I apologize in advance ✨ outfit for the night ✨ a/n: this started as a convo with my friend Ana when the JITB party was happening and it turned into this one-shot lol. enjoy.
Tumblr media
The invitation to the party of the century was waiting inside a brown package outside of your door when you arrived home from work, but you wouldn’t get to open it until the day after. You grabbed the box, not thinking anything of it, didn’t even care to see who sent it because you always received so many gifts from companies and reps trying to sway you with their products. It was just another box amongst your other pile of boxes. You'd get to it at some point.
Another Thursday, full of meetings. The most dreaded day of the week, so close to the weekend, yet so far. And one may wonder why you’d say yes to being the senior editor of a fashion magazine, and sometimes you ask yourself the same question. Well, because you love the hustle, the adrenaline rush from a deadline, and mostly the freedom of creativity…you love that aspect of your job. The other part of your position included mingling with people in the industry, schmoozing with the rich and famous. Sounds like a dream, right? WRONG. Celebrities were the worst, it was hard to find people you actually liked and could connect with, without someone wanting something in return. Sure, you held a position of power, but at what cost? No friends and long work hours? The closest friend you had was Ari, your assistant, who knew the ins-and-outs of your life, but that was only because it was her job.
Ari knocked on your office door before peeking her head in. “Hey boss…I received an email from HYBE today and they haven’t received your RSVP for the ‘Jack in the Box’ album listening party tonight.”
Tonight? You looked at the clock in the corner of your screen, it was nearly three in the afternoon. Perking up from your laptop screen, your eyes widened at Ari’s statement. “I don’t remember receiving an invitation.”
“They said a package was sent to you last week.”
Shit…You’d been so busy that you didn’t have a chance to look through your packages. “They sent it to my apartment?”
“Yes…” Ari scrolled through the tablet in her hands, “it looks like j-hope personally sent it to you.”
Shit. Shit. Shit. You closed your laptop. “Get them on the phone. NOW.”
She grabbed her phone from her pocket and immediately dialed, and handed the phone over. It rang a few times before someone on the other end picked up, directing you to Mi-na who was in charge of the event tonight. While on the phone, you expressed how terrible you felt for not responding sooner and that you would of course be there at the listening party.
When you hung up, you glanced up at Ari who was sporting a smirk. “What?” You asked, giving her the side-eye.
“You mean you haven’t been texting the one and only Jung Hoseok, aka j-hope, from BTS - the biggest band in the world? How could you not know about this party?” She asked with a curious expression.
You knew his album was coming out, you’d been on the set of his photoshoot, not even a month ago, but you didn’t know there was a listening party. “No…he’s been busy and so have I…and when would I have time to text him?”
Ari grinned, “Mmhm.”
“Besides…he left me on read.” You weren’t bitter about it. You weren’t! He was a busy guy being a worldwide superstar and you were busy running a magazine. You thought there might have been some sort of chemistry the last time you were on the set of his photoshoot, but maybe you read the signals wrong, maybe he wasn’t flirting with you - he was just being nice.
Tumblr media
The listening party was being held on the 19th floor of the HYBE building. It was smart to do so, you thought - doing things on their terms and no one else’s, and that’s what you admired about HYBE and their business model. They took care of their artists unlike other companies you knew.
Arriving at a private entrance in the parking garage, you stepped out of your car, dressed in leopard print mini dress, black combat boots and leather jacket. It was good enough for j-hope’s party, right? You threw whatever you had in your closet. There was literally no time to go and shop for a new one.
As you walked through the sliding glass doors, you checked in at the front desk. The receptionist handed you two badges, one printed with the ‘Jack in the Box’ album cover and the other was a white key card. You didn’t think anything of it, stuffing the white key card in your jacket pocket and the other laced around your neck.
When you reached the 19th floor, the party was already in full swing: the bar fully stocked, a line forming in front of it, a few groups forming here and there dancing as the DJ played old school hip hop tracks along with some of today’s latest hits. It was everything you’d expect from j-hope - the vibe, the atmosphere, it was very him.
Your phone suddenly buzzed, breaking you out from your amazement at this listening party. The stupid little green purse you chose for tonight was probably a bad idea, it had no space to hold anything - just your driver’s license, a card, lipstick and phone. But of course, Ari suggested, “the ridiculousness of a bag determines a person’s importance.” Important? You were hardly important. It’s not like you were Anna Wintour.
When you finally dug out your phone, you double tapped the screen, it was a text from Ari.
Ari 8:12PM
Say hi to Jungkook for me
and j-hope too! Have fun boss! 😘
You rolled your eyes and looked up from your phone to scan the crowd. Jungkook wasn’t hard to spot with his tattoos on full display. He was sitting near the stage next to Jin, sharing a drink, and watching a group of dancers show off some moves. You chuckled and shook your head - biggest stars in the world and you found it cute how they stuck to one another, probably a comfort thing, you understood it. You didn’t respond to Ari, rather you just stuck your phone back into the small confines of your green bag.
The line for the bar began to wither down, which called for a drink. The drinks for tonight were, of course, Jack in the Box themed. They were all named after the album track list. When you reached the bartender, you were undecided on your choice of drink.
“Try Pandora’s Box,” a low voice whispered next to you. You glanced over to see RM leaning against the counter, observing the crowd.
“Ah, got it. I’ll take a Pandora’s Box,” taking his suggestion. Just a few minutes later, the drink was in your hand. When you took a closer look at what was actually in it, gin, honey, mint, and lime syrup - you turned to RM, “Thank you,” nodding your glass to him. After taking another sip, you introduced yourself, pulling a business card from your jacket pocket, handing it over to him.
He held it in between his fingers. “I know who you are,” he grinned while taking your card and taking a sip of his drink.
You raised your eyebrow, “You do?”
He nodded his head, “Mmhm..your name has been dropped here and there around this building.” This made you wonder why your name was floating around and from whose lips.
“Have fun tonight,” RM said before starting to walk away.
“Call me when your album drops!” You hollered in his direction, in which he turned back around, smiling and waving your business card in the air, indicating that he would keep in contact.
When you received the call from HYBE themselves asking if your magazine would feature j-hope for the month’s cover, you, of course, accepted with no hesitation. Your magazine was up and coming, and to have a big star featured in it was something to not waver on.
The night continued on as you mingled your way through producers, dancers, singers, etc. You wondered where the man of the hour was - maybe he was making a late entrance, everyone would continue to wait for him anyway. The bartender went heavy on the gin in your drink, almost causing your bladder to burst if you didn’t find a bathroom right away.
You wandered down a hallway, hoping you went the right way to find a restroom, but instead you found the man of the hour, leaning with his head back against the concrete wall, quietly muttering to himself.
Tumblr media
When he saw a figure coming towards him, he glanced up, grinning from ear to ear when he saw it was you, “Thought you weren’t going to make it.”
Your eyes crinkled at the sight of Jung Hoseok, though he was absolutely a nervous wreck from the looks of his deep breaths and sighs, you found him rather cute and adorable at this moment. “I’m here,” you said, before mirroring his position against the wall. “You okay?”
“Nervous,” he chuckled softly. “Never done this before.”
Nodding your head, you understood where his head was at. His first big solo project and it was just him, no members to shield him if there was any disappointment or fighting words to come his way. Not that j-hope needed to worry about that, because from the interactions and short conversations you had with him, his art spoke for itself. It would soon be a masterpiece that the world could have a piece of, a piece of j-hope, a piece of peace.
Pushing yourself off the wall, you stood in front of him, trying to get him to look you in the eye. “You’re gonna do great,” you stated, grabbing the lapels of his jean jacket, letting your fingers linger longer than expected from either of you. Quietly, you tapped on his chest, feeling the heat radiate from his body.
A small smile left his lips, “Glad you’re here,” he spoke before finally getting the courage to look you in the eye.
“Me too," your expression now mirroring his.
Another figure dressed in a black suit and tie began making their way towards you and j-hope, prompting you to quickly step away from him. J-hope cleared his throat as the man walked towards him, whispering something in his ear. He responded indistinctly before glancing your way and smiling. “Looks like they’re ready for me. We’ll talk later?”
“Yeah…I’m looking forward to it.” You said as he walked off, making his way to the stage.
Tumblr media
Like you expected, j-hope’s album was incredible, full of life, deep lyrics, some fun tracks, some tracks that hit you in the gut - you wouldn’t expect anything else from him. This album was a momentous occasion, and he should be so proud of it.
Once he went through a listen of his full album, there was a sense of relief on his face. Countless people came to congratulate him, as did you when the night was ending.
“Are you…heading home already?” He asked, trying to pay attention to you but others kept interrupting.
“Yeah, I was thinking about it.”
So many others continued to get in the way of your conversation, he gestured for you to wait for a moment while he politely bid farewell to his guests.
Once the crowd calmed down, he made his way back to you, leaning in so only you could hear him, “Do…you want a tour of the company?” J-hope asked, biting his bottom lip, wondering if he was too forward with his question.
The corners of your mouth went up and you licked your lips, a shameless chuckle escaped too, "Sure, I'd love a tour."
You’ve seen your fair share of music labels and their company but none as extravagant as HYBE’s. They really thought of everything when it came to what their artists would need. From their own hair salon, quiet rooms, gyms, dance rooms, cafe, even a greenhouse (which was input from RM himself).
“This is um, quite impressive.” You remarked as the two of you turned the corner with Hoseok leading the way. “And where are we heading off to now?”
He leaned in towards you, “It’s a secret.” Smiling as he pressed a code to get into the elevator, which you found remarkable. You guessed they didn’t want just anyone to be walking through these hallways - made sense.
The two of you entered as the elevator doors opened, J-hope scanned his card before pressing the '6' call button. You leaned against the wall opposite of him, trying to avoid each other's gaze and suppress small smiles. "What?"
He shook his head. "You look really pretty tonight," he said, biting his bottom lip again. He's never been this forward with anyone, but little did you know you had him wrapped around your pretty little finger. He was just too scared previously to make his move.
Shying away from his comment, your eyes flickered to your boots before glancing back at him. "You know how to make a girl blush, J-hope," noting as the apple of your cheeks began to warm up. Some parts of you wondered if things would have progressed differently if you weren't stubborn and just texted him first, even though he left you on read.
“Just call me Hoseok or Hobi…j-hope seems too formal,” he giggled. You smirked, letting the informal name roll off your tongue.
The elevator dinged, opening up to an empty hallway. Hoseok gestured to follow him, you couldn’t help but try to peer into the other studios labeled for RM and SUGA. After RM and SUGA’s studio doors, you arrived at Hoseok’s studio, the last one down the hall.
You stood in the middle of his studio, taking in the vibrant decor. He indicated for you to sit in his chair, which you did. "So this is where all the magic happens huh? Hours upon hours here, dreaming of big things." You quietly tapped on his desk, before swiveling the chair around to face him.
"Or hours upon hours of sitting and doing nothing," he chuckled, because there were countless days like that. He took a step closer towards you. "What did you think of the album?"
"Loved it. Wouldn't expect anything other than greatness from you," you flirted at him, causing him to shy away with a smile, revealing the cutest little dimple.
“Do you have a favorite song from the album?"
Running through the tracklist in your head, you thought about the song that stood out to you the most, they were all great, but this one was magical. You held your finger to your cheek, tapping on it. “Equal sign, that one is my favorite.”
“That’s a good one. Do you have a favorite lyric from it?” He asked, trying to pick your brain or was he stalling because he was nervous being in the same room with you.
“Not so different, you and I…looking for love in a different light…”
He watched the words roll off your tongue, “Oh–not so different hm?” His feet shuffled closer towards you.
You shook your head, looking up at him, grinning like an idiot. "And are you looking for love?"
He leaned forward, placing both hands on the armrests beside you, causing you to draw back slightly. He was close, extremely close. "Maybe.." Hoseok continued exploring the details of your face, from your eyes to your nose, then lingered on your plush lips. "What about you?"
A breath hitched in your throat as you explored his features too, watching the small dimple appear now and again when he would smile, and you never noticed the faint beauty mark on his upper lip, making you wonder what his lips would feel like against yours. Your stomach fluttered at the thought of his lips.
Snapping out from your daze, you explained, "I don't know…the last guy left me on 'read'," referring to the last interaction you had with him. Again, not upset. He's busy. You're busy. Things didn't happen like you wanted them to, but maybe tonight would change that.
Hoseok clicked his tongue, "That's rude." His face now leaning in closer to yours, so close you can feel his breath, so close you imagined the things he could do to you with that mouth and tongue.
"Very…" you quipped at him, biting down on your bottom lip, curling your fingers underneath his chair as you inched forward to him.
"The last girl didn't RSVP to my party," he said, avoiding your eyes and instead, lingered on your parted lips - curious to know how your rose tinted lips would look on his neck, maybe even on his cock.
"Also rude of her…" you stated, knowing that he was referring to you. It wasn't your fault, per se…
"She didn't RSVP, but she did show up and now she's in my studio." You couldn't help but blush when he said that. So you weren't crazy, because he was thinking about you after his photoshoot. Maybe he had been too excited to have finally found someone he connected with and didn’t want to be overbearing, therefore trying to minimize contact with you, only to find out later you really wanted him to chase after you.
Playing dumb, you asked, "Is that right? Is she hiding somewhere?" Pretending to look around his studio, chuckling at your silly remark. You were just glad the two of you were on the same page now - that the two of you were definitely into one another.
His eyes darted from your eyes to your lips again, "Mmhm…she should come out to play."
You softly giggled, "What game are they gonna play?" Your hand now toying with his necklace, urging him to come closer.
He chuckled, "How about a game where I get to kiss her?"
"Kiss her hmm?"
He slowly nodded, watching your every move, waiting for you to give him the signal to move in.
"Only if you don't leave me on 'read' again."
Hoseok hung his head down before looking at you once more, "I promise you that won't happen." And he meant it.
"Okay…" you whispered, eyes focused on the little beauty mark on his upper lip, before traveling up to his gaze. Licking your lips, you gently pulled him by his necklace towards you. Your lips faintly in contact with his, closing your lips on the beauty mark you so wanted to taste.
He closed his eyes, turning his head to the side to deepen the kiss, pushing you back further into the chair. You cupped his face, continuing to entangle your lips with his, and you couldn't help but lace your fingers in between the hair curling on the nape of his neck.
The two of you let out a moan in unison once you pulled away. You stood up, pushing away the chair from underneath you, his hands now gripped onto your waist, and yours snaked around his neck. He began to pepper kisses down your jawline, then your neck, leaving small traces of himself on you. Tiny whimpers grew louder as you became desperate for more of his touch.
"Hoseok…" you mewled as he continued with his kisses. You began backing him up against the wall, needing to show him how regretful you were for not responding to his invite sooner.
He removed your jacket, letting it drop to the ground, mouths connecting once more, his urgency to feel all of you. He broke the kiss, asking if he could remove the straps of your dress. You responded by letting them slide off of your shoulders, revealing your bare chest.
"Fuck, you're so sexy, better than I could ever imagine," he groaned at the sight, taking his hands in yours, you brought them to cup your breasts - his hands warm and soft against them. He kissed you again, now letting his tongue dance with yours, and his hands in full control - kneading and caressing your breast and nipples.
You suddenly pulled away from him, getting down on your knees, beginning to unbuckle his belt and undo his button. He quickly looked down at you in this compromising position, didn't think he'd get to see you like this so quickly. He didn’t want to let his mind wander too far off - scared he’d blow his load before you even got your mouth on him.
"Thought you were mad," he panted, "and that's why you didn't RSVP." His head rolled back as you shimmied his pants then his underwear off, letting his thick cock spring out. "Ah–fuck," Hoseok gazed at you, all wide-eyed, ready for him to fill you up.
You grinned, "If I was mad, I wouldn't be on my knees right now, would I?" Your hand finally wrapped around his hardened length, pumping it a few times, making him hiss at the sight of you. Faintly, you dragged your tongue along the underside of his cock, running alongside the prominent vein, bringing it to the tip where a small dribble of pre-cum started to form.
“Shit–baby–you’re going to be the death of me,” Hoseok moaned, his hands tugging at his own hair.
You giggled at the cute man of the hour, “Already? I barely did anything.”
“You’re doing a lot–” he beamed. "Driving me absolutely insane right now."
"Good–" you chirped before licking your lips and taking his cock into your mouth, causing him to groan and knit his eyebrows together.
He wanted to keep his eyes open, he did. He wanted to imprint this memory into his brain forever, but your mouth was all consuming, making him forget who he was, and where he was.
You continued bobbing up and down his cock, letting your mouth go further until it would hit the back of your throat, triggering guttural groans from Hoseok. "Wait–don't wanna cum yet," his voice quivered as he looked down at you. His hand caressing your cheek, eyes pleading for this to continue in other ways. He wanted to make you feel good too.
Hoseok took your hand in his, making you stand up and switch positions with him - it was you against the door now. "Wanna make you feel good too," he whispered before placing a kiss in the crook of your neck, then your collarbone, moving it along to take a mouthful of your tit, making you gasp. His tongue flicking against your pebbled nipple, while the other was being pinched between his fingers.
"Hoseok, please…touch me," you pleaded with him. While his cock was in your mouth, your pussy clenched around nothing, you wanted to give all your attention to him, you weren't expecting anything in return but he stopped you earlier than you wanted.
"You're a needy little slut, aren't you?" He asked as he pulled down your undies, letting it drop down to your ankles. Slowly, his fingers dipped into your cunt, gathering your juices to rub your clit.
Surprised to hear those words from his mouth, but it was all the more exciting too - it turned you on even more. "Mm.."
"Say it."
You cleared your throat, "I'm a needy little slut."
"For who?"
"For you Hoseok, only you."
"Good–" he repeated your words from earlier before shoving two fingers into your pussy without any warning, making you yelp and fall forward against him.
"Fuck–Hoseok–"
"You're so wet for me already."
"I was wet the second I stepped into his building," you confessed with no shame whatsoever. You were excited to come to the party, even more excited to see Hoseok.
He flashed a grin as he continued pumping his digits in and out of your pussy, causing the most lewd noises to echo throughout his studio. Thank God it's soundproof.
"Hoseok–ah–" your expression twisted as he pumped faster. "Need you–inside me–now," you said, panting harder than before.
"Can't," he said, "No condom."
"Don't care," you chirped, making his eyes widen. "I'm on the pill, and clean - haven't had sex, been almost a year." Sad to admit, but true.
Hoseok abruptly stopped pumping you, just to make sure he heard you correctly. "Shit–I get to have you raw?"
"If you want to…yeah."
He studied your face again, just to confirm if this was really happening. You leaned in, connecting your mouth with his, telling him yes, you're sure.
Hoseok pulled away, growling into your ear, leaving small bruises onto your neck. You really were going to be the death of him, letting him have you raw.
His cock still erect and poking your thigh, you took it upon yourself to stroke him again. Now guiding his cock towards your entrance, rubbing his tip with your juices, getting yourself ready for him. Spreading your legs apart, Hoseok held his cock, just slightly letting the tip in, causing you to whimper.
"Shit–baby, I'm not gonna last long," he whispered, his head leaning against your forehead, nose nuzzling yours.
"That's okay," you reassured him, as long as you could fuck him now, you didn't care how long it would last. You kissed him again, letting your tongue play with his, as he writhed underneath to get you into a good position. You slipped your underwear away from your ankles, so he'd have better access to you, widespread, on your tip toes as he lifted you against the wall, pinning you, as he pushed his cock into your pussy.
The pair of you moaned together, he held you against the wall for a moment before steadily thrusting into you. Like he said, he wasn't going to last long if you went raw.
"You're so tight–" he grunted as he began fucking you against the wall, causing your head to bump against it every now and then. His teeth sunk into his bottom lip as he watched your eyebrows knit together in pleasure. It's also been a while for him since he's fucked anyone.
"Ngh–Hoseok," you whined before he abruptly set you down on his leather couch, causing him to slip out of you. Another whine left at the loss of his cock.
He let you watch as he undressed himself, then he placed himself in front of you, slipping you out of your dress and boots. Hoseok wanted to take in the view of you, memorize all your curves and beauty marks. "Beautiful," he whispered before getting down on his knees. "Can't wait to see how sweet you taste."
You propped your head up to flash him a smile before covering your face. Now that you were completely naked, you felt embarrassed at the fact you were fucking Jung Hoseok in his music studio.
He wrapped his arms around your thighs, pulling you towards him, peppering kisses along the inside, making his way down to your pussy. You could hear soft chuckles coming from him, it was fun for him to see you squirm at the slightest touch.
His mouth then found your clit, slowly licking it, trying to figure out how many licks until you'd reach your high - it was pure torture, your legs quivering and shifting underneath his tongue. Then he began to lap between your folds, and every once in a while darting his tongue in your entrance making you cry out his name.
The yearning in the deep pit of your stomach started to rise up, edging you closer and closer to climax. As you continued to squirm underneath, Hoseok placed his two fingers inside your cunt, repeatedly pumping it in and out of you, bringing you over the edge and into bliss, legs shaking and convulsing as he rode out your high.
Propping yourself up to see the damage, Hoseok looked up with a grin on his face, wiping away your juices from his mouth. "So sweet," he murmured.
You sat up, pulling him down for a kiss, tasting yourself on him. He's right - so sweet. Smiling into the kiss, you told him to lay down because you wanted to show him your appreciation. He was intrigued and ready for whatever you wanted to do. He was game.
He laid down, hands behind his head, intently watching you straddle him. He couldn't help but grin at the sight of you, couldn't wait to keep having more of you, explore what you liked, loved, and what you'd be willing to try.
You stroked his length, bringing it to your entrance again, rubbing his cockhead with your juices before letting yourself bottom out on top of him. And fuck–this position was much better, you could feel all of him inside your walls.
Hoseok closed his eyes, groaning and breathing heavily as you began to roll your hips, then slamming yourself down, bordering him closer and closer to his climax - it had been building for a while already. He was trying his best to hold onto it, but once you were riding him - it was over.
He grabbed a handful of your ass, smacking it noisily, making you grin at his touch. You didn't make him out to be like this during sex - actually you had no idea at all, but you loved it. You leaned down to kiss him, and he wrapped his arms around you as he began thrusting roughly from below, whispering filthy things into your ear, causing you to moan. He continued slamming harder and harder into you, lewd noises from his cock hitting your pussy repeatedly filled the air, you bit down into his shoulder to muffle your moan.
"Baby–I'm gonna cum so hard for you," he whispered into your ear.
"Please, cum for me Hoseok–" whining back at him.
He moaned shamelessly, panting heavily as he reached his orgasm, painting your walls with white, hair now sticking to his temples as he laid his head back. He laced his fingers into your hair, lightly tugging you back so he could give you a sloppy kiss. As you laid on his chest, he grazed up and down your spine with the tips of his fingers, making you slightly shudder.
You couldn't help but chuckle at the fact you just fucked Jung Hoseok - in his studio of all places. This was definitely not your intention when you showed up at his party. You lifted yourself up, the two of you grinning like idiots at one another.
Hoseok cleared his throat, "Well um, I think that was the highlight of my party."
Tumblr media
When you got back to your apartment, you found yourself still smiling like an idiot. You were sure your doorman knew exactly why you were so happy.
Tonight's party was perfect. More perfect than you could have imagined.
Setting down your bag and taking off your boots, you stared at the stacked pile of packages sitting next to your dining table. You walked over to find the package that Hoseok had sent the week before, wondering what could possibly be in it.
Grabbing a pair of scissors to cut it open, you found a white box, scribbled with the artwork from his album, and a small lever on the side - you assumed it was a jack in the box. You began turning the lever and it began playing a melody from his album. Knowing what would pop up at the end, you braced yourself for the inevitable, and our popped the character from his album artwork. Attached to it was a crinkled note, handwritten by Hoseok himself, it said, "Hope I get to see you. Let's also go out on a proper date and get to know one each other better - Your hope."
You grinned at the note, if only you opened your package earlier, then you would have known he wanted to take you out, instead of you just showing up to his party and fucking him.
You 1:27AM
Can I pencil in a date before
Worldwide superstar j-hope
jets off?
Hoseok 1:28AM
Absolutely. See you in a few hours? 😏
You 1:28AM
Come over for breakfast?
Hoseok 1:29AM
What's on the menu?
You 1:29AM
Me.
Hoseok 1:30AM
Mm..exactly what I was craving.

So...apparently The Impossible Heir only has 12 episodes in total, I thought it was gonna be a 16-episode series. I have just finished episode 6 but I have also spoiled myself for the next couple of episodes that I already have the gist of the direction of the story. I may or may not post a full commentary/review about the series once I am done with all 12 episodes but so far, here's what I have to say:
I do agree that the storyline had a lot of potential, but unfortunately, they fell short as far as storytelling is concerned. The lines were just meh and the lead actress was so painful to watch, painful in the sense that I don't want to see her on-screen, that's how bad her performance was.
Choi Hee-jin was the saving grace of the show, despite being the second lead with only a handful of lines and a few minutes on screen, she NAILED every scene she was in. Lee Jae-wok, Lee Jun-young, and the rest of the cast did really well despite the crappy storyline.
Honestly, they could have saved this whole ass show had they shifted the focus on Han Taeoh and Kang Huiju's relationship the moment Na Hyewon pushed through her marriage with Kang Inha. I'll never get tired of saying this, but Jae-wok and Hee-jin have MUCH better chemistry than all of the former's scenes with Hong Suzu combined. It could have been an opportunity for Taeoh and Huiju to work together and find out the truth about who was trying to fuck up Taeoh or whatever and take KangOh together by storm, and eventually Taeoh realizing that he actually likes Huiju (I mean come on, if they gave an open ending for these two, why not just let them fall madly in-love with each other?) They could have been THE power couple of the show, and the entire series could have been saved.
I hope Jae-wok and Hee-jin would be given an opportunity to work together again as the lead actors of a drama or a film. They deserve a much better project than this.
Oh, and bring in the Taeoh x Huiju fanfics. I would love to read all of them ❤️

Currently watching - January
Because I love a good little list - with an alphabetical order this time! 😊
Regularly updated during the month, latest update 31.01.2023
This may contain spoilers!
1. Ameiro Paradox (6/8 on Viki and Gaga)
An enemies to lovers story with journalists and cute smiles. I am a little bit confused by Kaburagi, just like Onoe is. It is not bad, the acting is quite nice.
2. Bokura no Micro na Shuumatsu aka The End Of the World With You (1/8 on Gaga or Viki)
This feels depressing and heartbreaking and I love it! Done right this can become a little sad gem.
3. Cutie Pie 2 You (1/4 on Youtube)
Well, I haven't been waiting for this and the first season left without a deeper impact on me. So right now I am very much unimpressed with this one.
4. HIStory 5: Love in the future (5/20 on Viki)
It is starting to grow on me. Both storylines. Seeing Hai Yi being nice, caring and less arrogant is kind of sweet. And all the flirting between Liang and Wynn is very much entertaining. Besides that, the main story is kind of confusing and I can't stop myself from asking, why doesn't He Bo Wei search himself in the internet?
5. Individual Circumstances (4/8 on Viki)
After years spending their lives apart from each other an almost worn out movie director and a famous writer meet again. The past has to be processed and the writer deals with their history and present in one of his stories. I like this one a lot. Can it be please next week, so I know what they were talking about in the preview?
6. My School President (8/12 on Youtube)
I loooove this one so much!!!! It is my favorite watch of the week! Set in highschool we meet Tinn (the school president) and Gun (head of the music club). Tinn has a huge crush on Gun and Gun sees in Tinn the enemy who is standing between the success of his music club and the win of the Hot Wave Music Contest. Sometimes you just need a good old high school bl to be happy. I enjoyed this series so much. And the music is so good!!!
7. Never Let Me Go (7/12 on Youtube)
The tension and chemistry between the two mains is definitely there and noticeable. I am hooked with the story and at this point really anxious about what's to come. There are so many layers to unfold and I love reading all those metas here on tumblr! So well written analyses.
8. Physical: 100 (2/10 on Netflix)
Okay, listen...my best friend told me, I should watch this and after 15 minutes we were on the phone with each other and for the next 1,5 hours we had the time of our lifes! This show is insane and so much fun to watch!
9. The New Employee (6/8 on Viki)
I love the manhwa and I really enjoy this adaptation. It is funny and cute and not so far from the original material. The two mains have a wonderful chemistry.
Finished in January
Series
1. 2 Moons the Ambassador (12/12 on Youtube)
It was just bad. The acting was not good. The plot was...lame and there was too much going on with the amount of couples to deal witj. And there was just too much dull drama without reason and so many plotholes and logical errors... 2 out of 10 for the sweetness sometimes
2. Till the world ends (10/10 on Youtube)
This one was such a pleasant surprise for me. A story about the end of the world with explicit and brutal scenes, decent acting and a kind of good story! The chemistry was there and with episode eight they said, well lets show world what we can do. I won't talk about physics nor the ending. Well the latter would explain the first issues, but I don't care. I liked it! 8,5 out of 10 dystopian ideas
3. Remember Me (14/14 on Gaga)
Okay, this one is so complicated for me. First I found it boring. With episode three I was hooked and totally into it. Around episode 10/11 I just got bored again and the story became...difficult to like anymore and the last one was just meh...I really liked the storytelling, but some parts could have been cut short and others needed more story time. I felt like they have forgotten that there were like four other stories beside Champ's in the last episode so everything felt rushed. And yes, the big problem with Name's decision to speak. Like as it is just so easy to overcome your fear and barrier and mental health problem and just speak. One day, after you notice it would be better for others if you speak, you just do it...well, that is not how it works. And yes, thinking about it, this is a really big problem of the show in general. Just presenting mental health problems as something you can overcome with enough selfcontrol and some words of encouragement...or the sight of others who feel unwell in your depressed presence...damn...It could have been such a nice 7, but thinking about those flaws really hurts...there is no real working with the problems. Champ just decides to forgive his family and his depression is healed...Name speaks because he just decided to do so...Gun and Golf broke up and just a few days later Golf says sorry and pulls out a ring and everything is fine again...Well no...that is not how life works. 4 out of 10 stories to tell
4. Zettai BL ni Naru Sekai VS Zettai BL ni Naritakunai Otoko Season 1 (4/4 on Gaga)
A man who tries to avoid the world of BL, by reading Yaoi mangas to get to know all the tropes he has to avoid in order to not get involved with the world as a main character. It is hilarious. I had a really good time watching it. 8 out of 10 tropes to avoid
5. Love Bill (10/10 on Youtube)
A vietnamese drama about a young man falling in love with a screenwriter. Well, of course there are some other things happening in between, but this is the heart of the story. Our boy Nguyễn Bá Vinh is doing a great job! I really enjoyed this drama. And the ending is so perfectly fitting for this drama. Thien is a screenwriter and known as the king od sad endings. So yeah, the ending is sad, but at the same time perfect and bittersweet. 7 out of 10 rainwater barrel showers
6. The director who buys me dinner (10/10 on iQiyi)
Okay, I read the Webseries, so I do know what Dennis was up to and what his story was. I liked the story between Yudam and Dongbaek. The ending? I wish they would have stick more to the original, but I am not mad about it. They had a fresh start and it is not that open of an ending for me. Yudam agreed to have dinner with Dongbaek and I believe that those two will be happy in the end. 7,5 out of 10 pills to swallow
7. Island (6/6 non bl)
I have never thought I would say I like a horror series, but here I am. I hate horror besides Vampires, Aliens and Witches, so this was a surprise, especially when I think about my despise and horror for The Exorcist. But this one is really good! And now I can't wait for season 2!! There is so much to unpack and I am hooked! 9,5 out of 10 lust demons
8. War of Y (20/20 on Gaga)
I finally watched it. I don't know. It was good imo, without a doubt. But it is a little bit paradox. The series tries to go against the industry and the fanservice and the working conditions, but in the end it is just another bl. Most of the stories have their happy ending and are kind of unrealistic. I enjoyed my time watching it, even though it was tough at some times. 7 out of 10 two-faced media
9. Gaya Sa Pelikula aka Like in the Movies (8/8 on Youtube)
What a perfect little series! I loved every second of this and I wish it had more episodes. But they managed to tell the story in the time they had without cutting something short or anything. It is a deep story with a light storytelling that fits the tone perfectly. The story is about Karl and Vlad who become fake boyfriends to help each other and who happen to fall in love with each other for real. But nothing is that easy in this world and the process of coming out and coming to terms with who you are needs time. Absolutely love this one! 10 out of 10 dishes to wash
10. Ingredients (21/21 on Gaga)
This was the perfect thing to watch while laying down with a cold. It warms your heart and makes you smile. It is such a cute and wholesome story and I believe they will manage to overcome all obstacles in their relationship. I am very grateful for this recommendation! 9,5 out of 10 desserts
11. My Engineer (14/14 on Youtube)
Well this one was a ride. I liked the beginning, but my patience died at some point. So Bohn and Duen became a couple, but they didn't touch each other, no hand holding, no kind of showing affection and the only one who does shows them through words is Bohn, but he becomes so jealous I wanted to slap his face. He is sulking the whole second part of this series! That was so annoying. The only bright spot were RamKing. I get it, they are cute and the only ones with at least two brain cells! 5,5 out of 10 sulking faces...
12. The Tuxedo (8/8 on Gaga)
This was not good. I think it is cringy and there was no chemistry between the mains or a plot I could really follow. I mean there are short films out there, which can transport a better story with a better feeling for time and substance than this series. The amount of times I cried noooo...Not good... 3,5 out 10 what the hell was this blue tuxedo?!?!
13. History 4: Close to you (10/10 on Viki)
Yeah, close to you...what a perfect titel. Best friends to lovers, stepbrothers to lovers. And I liked it. I don't know what else to say. I know there are some scenes that are just bad. There is no excuse for that, but you know what? I watched KinnPorsche, I watched Dangerous Drugs Of Sex...And besides those scenes I really enjoyed the stories. Yes, also the stepbrothers. 8 out of 10 Cardigans
14. Between Us (12/12 on Youtube)
Well, in the end it was boring and I couldn't care less about WinTeams relationship or their traumas, which is really sad, because it plays such a big role in the series. I liked them in UWMA, but here, in their own series, they were blank and boring. 4,5 out of 10 swimming pools
15. The Devil Judge (16/16 on Viki)
Why so good? I couldn't stop watching in the end. You know the feeling when you are so tense, you just want to spoiler yourself the ending, but you don't want to, but you want to and in the end you are sitting there in tears, because the drama is so sad and you're so tense. And still, since the beginnen of the show, you question yourself if you want to hate Jung Sun Ah, feel pity for her, fuck her or let her fuck you. In the end I let her fuck me out of pity while I hate her with all my guts. But the drama is just so fucking good. So thrilling and with some really good (and some not so good) plot twists. And in the end, every meme is true, gay sex would be less gay than what ever was going on between Kang Yo Han and Kim Ga On and I respect them for that. 10 out of 10 intense eye contacts
16. Zettai BL ni Naru Sekai VS Zettai BL ni Naritakunai Otoko 2 (3/3 on Gaga)
A man who tries to avoid the world of BL, by reading Yaoi mangas to get to know all the tropes he has to avoid in order to not get involved with the world as a main character - Part II (yes, I copy paste this one...). It is hilarious. I had a really good time watching it. 7,5 out of 10 tropes to still avoid
New Category: Dropped/On Hold
1. I will knock you (1/12 on Gaga)
Well, I don't like it. It brings me no joy so far. So for now it is on hold until I have nothing more to watch...
2. To Sir, with love (2/17 on Youtube)
I know that it is good, but I don't know. I just can't find the energy to watch it. Perhaps some day in the future.
3. Something in my room (3/10 on Youtube)
I saw people talking about this one and how good it is. Well, it is quite okay. I guess it will get a little bit deeper with more episodes, but I haven’t had the time to watch more or the motivation to watch it...so for now it is on hold
4. Hit Bite Love (on Youtube)
I couldn't get over the first half of the first epsiode. It just made me uncomfortable. So this was a dropped for me...
Short films
1. Invitation (on Gaga)
A short film about a jobless person who finds binoculars and breaks in a stranger's home. There is a good twist in the end. The acting was okay, the story was okay...the ending was good. 6,5 out of 10 binoculars
2. Fragile Souls (on Gaga)
I like this one a lot. It has depth and a really deep story for a movie under 10 minutes. The acting is good, too. It is a story about opening your heart to someone and not keeping you inner demons all to yourself. You are allowed to be vulnerable and it gets better. 8,5 out of 10 grainy metaphores
3. Jay (on Gaga)
Jay is a 13 years old boy who is fascinated by his older brother's physique what somewho change into attraction. He is discovering his own sexual orientation while his brother doesn't keep his own a secret from the younger brother (he has sex with his girlfriend while the door to his room was open). It is a complicated film which ewokes complicated emotions. Jay is in an early stage of puberty and his hormones and emotions are going crazy. He can't bring himself to like the girl who has a crush on him. Instead he fantasises about his brother, or his brother's body, a male body to whom he has easy access. The acting is not bad, the subject difficult, but all in all not a bad short film. 7 out of 10 pants
4. Going South (on Gaga)
What a ride. This movie was tense and uncomfortable to watch. I guess you can start a discourse about the question wether the sexual encounter is consensual, dub con or just simply r*pe...With all I have seen it is r*pe for me. There was so much aggression between those two and I understand both sides, which doesn't mean that ones actions were justified. 5,5 out of 10 chasing scenes
5. Suddenly Last Summer (on Gaga)
It is the story about a student, who stalks his teacher after he discovered the latter is gay. The student goes so far that he blackmails the teacher to do everything he wants for a day in return he would keep his secret safe. Well it was a slow and quiet movie. The acting was good. The story itself was okay. I liked it. Did I liek the student? Nope...But his behavior fits his character and his role in the movie. 8 out of 10 headphones
6. Kiss Of The Rabbit God (on Gaga)
This is such a beautiful and good short film! I loved every second of it and I was hooked to the very last scene. The following is all you need to know. Oh I love some good stories! A long time ago in the Qing Dynasty a young soldier fell in love with a handsome official and was sentenced to death for confessing his longing. When his spirit travelled to the Underworld the soldier’s crime was forgiven as one of passion and he was ordained The Rabbit God, the god of secret lovers. The god now travels through eternity answering prayers of forbidden love. 10 out of 10 crimson-hair
7. Langit Budak Biru (on Gaga)
It is not easy to watch, it is not easy to think about, but it is important to think about, to talk about. A movie about two boarding school students in a very religious and very homophobic country trying to understand why they are here and how to survive. My highest resprect for this movie. 10 out of 10 !
Movies
1. Gameboys: The Movie (on Gaga)
Well I haven't seen the first season, but you can indeed watch this without knowledge of the things that happen before (imo). I thought it was a decent movie. The acting was good, the stroy was there and I liked it. But I can't with "Baby" as a term of endearment. At some point all I could hear and concentrate on was this term and I am honest, I hated it. 7 out of 10 ... baby ...
What I’m looking forward to in January:

Mother Miranda x reader
sou nova escrevendo então me desculpe qualquer coisa.
I don't know English so I'm sorry for any typos.
Os dois é a mesma coisa, a diferença é que o primeiro ta inglês e o segundo português.
Inglês.
After a few months of classes, everything was going well, Bela sometimes helped you with Alcina's classes on Mondays, Donna always took her for a walk in the forest in the first hours of class, picking flowers, mushrooms and other things that Donna thought were important for your class that day, at the end you always left knowing how to make a new tea, Salvatore always focusing on chemistry and forgetting about geography, while Karl sat with his cigar and told the stories he knew. It was a Wednesday, when you left the factory Mother Miranda was already waiting for you outside, with a huge smile on your face you ran out and hugged her as soon as you reached her. Mother Miranda: how was the small class?? -she asked, pulling away a little to look into his eyes, while stroking her hair. Y/n: it was amazing, Karl taught me about some things that happened in 1918. - you smiled without showing your teeth, hoping that this was enough for her not to ask any more questions and they could go to the house. Mother Miranda: what happened in 1918?? he asked, frowning. Y/n: ....-her smile faded and her eyes avoided Miranda's. Noticing his silence her jaw dropped, her eyes widened, her body tensed and her hands stilled as she remembered what had happened at the time. When you saw Mother Miranda's eyes shine, you hugged her tight.

✒️💛🧠 :3
Hey, thanks for the ask!!! I totally forgot I posted that ask game and was SUPER confused when you dropped a bunch of emojis into my inbox, lsdaljasjakd
Anywho
✒️ do you have a headcanon that you love, but directly contradicts canon?
NA bros are twins or the ItaBros as twins. I am FAR less adamant about Romano and Veneziano being twins, but I loooove a good sibling rivalry. I think a sibling rivalry between twins in a way is so much more intense -- You have been together your entire lives and in a way have been dealt the same deck of cards, so why do people compare you? Does your individuality suffer when you're stuck as a matched set? I go crazy for this with NA Bros just because I really like changing up a lot with the NA Bros dynamic. They are simply my little barbie dolls...
💛 name a friendship that doesn't exist in canon but you'd like to see between two characters!
I was talking with a buddy on Instagram about this in regards to my grocery store AU (which I... know I haven't shared on here at all, oops!!! I just really want some sort of visual material to appear alongside my AU and haven't had any thoughts on what to draw for it). In the customer service department I have Philippines, Belarus, and Poland. The departments I put different characters depends on personality or what a country is best known for, but with Piri, Nat, and Feliks, it's entirely personality based.
Piri thrives on social interaction, as does Feliks. Said Instagram buddy and I think that a Philippines + Poland friendship would be so overpowered in the best way. Nat seems like an oddball out here, but I actually really like the idea of her rounding out this little trio (she also doesn't seem like the kind of person to be good at a customer service job, but I definitely think she's the kind of no-nonsense person who is good at handling difficult customers). She's definitely more introverted than Piri and Feliks, but I think she's definitely in on their shenanigans once they get her out of her shell, albeit she's more reserved about it. They definitely know all of the store gossip and have bets on who in the store is going to get together next. I'm imagining that whoever wins said bet doesn't have to pay the next time they go out for dinner, drinks, or something.
Sometimes all you need in life is a crack pairing (friendship...?). Genuinely. Sometimes it isn't about whether it could work in canon, but about the chemistry between the characters.
🧠 what's your most "essential" headcanon? (one you can't imagine the hetalia universe without!)
Matthew Williams is just as capable of chaos as his brother. He may look sweet and innocent, and to a degree he can be much more introverted, but I love a good sassy Matthew. Raised by Francis and Arthur...? Yeah, this guy's definitely going to have a couple of witty remarks to make.
I also don't think Mattie is the kind of guy to start arguments, but he sure as hell will finish them!
Also throwing in a second (third...?) one here: Miss Ukraine is fat! PLEASSSEEEE I DESIRE MORE PLUS SIZE CHARACTERS LET ME PROJECT PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. I can't wait to draw Kateryna, the process of drawing her will be so cathartic for me.

Best Underrated Anime Group F Round 1: #F3 vs #F6
#F3: Daily lives of tiny forest women
Hakumei and Mikochi are two tiny gnome-women who live together in a house built into a tree in the middle of the forest. The show is a slice-of-life about them meeting and talking to other gnome-people or animals of the forest.
Tumblr media
#F6: Normal school until stuff happens
Fifty years ago, horrific creatures dubbed as the “enemies of humanity” suddenly appeared around the world. To combat these threats, teenagers gifted with supernatural abilities called “Talents”—such as pyrokinesis and time travel—hone their powers at an academy on a secluded island.
Nanao Nakajima, however, is quite different from the others on the island: he has no Talent. With many “Talented” teenagers around him, Nanao is often a target for bullying, but even so, he still strives to complete his training. Soon after, two transfer students, the mysterious Kyouya Onodera and the mind-reading Nana Hiiragi, join the class. But just as everyone starts blending as comrades-in-arms, mysterious disappearances begin to threaten the class’s entire foundation.
Titles, propagandas, trailers, and poll under the cut!

#F3: Hakumei and Mikochi
youtube
Propaganda:
It really is super adorable, and the art is gorgeous. Every bit of the world is rendered lovingly with a great level of detail, from the characters to the environments. The anime has this really cool effect where they use paneling to emulate the manga’s style while also making the characters visually smaller on-screen, which works because they’re tiny.
For a slice-of-life show, there’s a good amount of continuity. They introduce the swamp necromancer Sen in one episode, and she keeps showing up later on, helping rebuild their house when it explodes, then Mikochi repays her for that by designing and making a dress for her. The show gets really into the intricacies of everything, like how dying fabric is a multistep process that is similar to chemistry, or how soap is made with aromatics.
Every character is well-realized, with their own set of quirks, profession, the tricks and tools they use in that profession, and they make pretty consistent re-appearances. And the writing is very dry and witty despite the whimsical setting. It’s cute, but it feels very adult, all the characters are adults with jobs who get drunk sometimes. Everyone is very professional and responsible, and it’s a nice change of pace from teen shounen.
Trigger Warnings: None.
Tumblr media
#F6: Talentless Nana (Munou na Nana)
youtube
Propaganda:
I’d like to start off by saying that this is NOT a copy of My Hero Academia, even though it sounds as such. It’s kinda hard to explain the show without spoiling a major plot point, but it’s pretty much as the summary says. Honestly, if you want to watch this, don’t look up anything about it—you will get spoiled right away, and it does ruin the experience. I started this without knowing anything about it and I think that’s for the best because it’s plot twist after plot twis,t and you’re not sure what to expect next. That’s honestly something I really liked about it because you don’t know where the story will take you. Anyways, highly recommend because more people should know about this series.
Trigger Warnings: Child Abuse, Emotional Abuse, Violence (not heavy), Necrophilia.
The abuse part is mostly implied instead of shown. There is violence, but it’s not graphic, though it may be a little disturbing.

2022 Year in Review: My Korean drama recommendations
2022 went by so quickly, and I think that's partly because almost every week I had new episodes of shows to look forward to. I'm a bit of a contradiction: I don't have the patience to wait for a new show to be completed so I could binge it, but I (maybe not-so) patiently wait for episodes every week, haha. TBH, I find I'm more invested in a show and its characters when I watch a drama weekly. And there were so many characters worth the investment in 2022: Woo Young Woo, Queen Im Hwa Ryeong, the Oh sisters, Kim Yumi, Jin Do Jun and Jang Uk, to name a few.
I just want to make clear that, as in previous years, this is by no means a list of the best Korean dramas of 2022. These are merely my favorites among the ones I watched that premiered in 2022 (or ended in 2022).
You can find my previous roundups here:
2021: Year in Review 2020: Year in Review
Tumblr media
YUMI'S CELLS 2
New season means new love for Kim Yumi (Kim Go Eun) as she begins a romance with co-worker Yoo Babi following her breakup with video game designer Goo Woong. TBH, I wasn't quite sure how I'd feel about the new pairing — I have a soft spot for Ahn Bo Hyun — but Jinyoung charmed me even before the series started. He and Go Eun have a sweet and natural chemistry that made me root for Yumi and Babi, even knowing how the relationship ended in the webtoon. Another thing I love about the series is its portrayal of Yumi's pursuit of her dream to be a writer — from the frustrations of earlier rejections to keeping it positive while faced with criticisms and the satisfaction of another job (book) well done. That shot of her jumping on the bed toward the end of the series was cathartic and the perfect cap to Yumi's growth. (Viki)

LITTLE WOMEN
This is NOT Louisa May Alcott's famous novel though it does share some themes and puts sisters at the forefront of the story. The Oh sisters — In Joo, In Kyung and In Hye — just want to live a life not steeped in poverty. So when 2 billion won falls on In Joo's lap, their problems are over, right? Nope. A multitude of troubles arrive as the sisters get entangled with a rich, powerful and corrupt family with a lot of unscrupulous allies. This series got me on the edge of my seat from the very first episode and the thrills and tension never let up until the end. I absolutely love how messy and chaotic the sisters and their relationships with each other are. They love but they also fight, annoy and block each other, LOL! Now please cast Kim Go Eun and Wi Ha Joon in an action comedy series or film and give them the ending on the sunny beaches of Greece that their characters deserve. (Netflix)
Tumblr media
BULGASAL: IMMORTAL SOULS
This is the first drama that caught my attention last year, a fantasy with monsters, past lives, immortal love and families. It's the story of how the lives of a man (Lee Jin Wook) who was turned into an immortal monster 600 years ago and a woman (Kwon Na Ra) who has been dying and reincarnating for centuries have been intertwined. The world building is quite interesting and the central mystery keeps you guessing until the very end. Keep an eye out for familiar faces as people from the past emerge in the present. (Netflix)
Tumblr media
A BUSINESS PROPOSAL
This romcom is adorable with a capital A. Shin Ha Ri (Kim Se Jeong) shows up to a blind date pretending to be her best friend and does her best to turn off a potential match by behaving outrageously. It's a schtick she and her chaebol best friend had cooked up a long time ago to discourage suitors. Unfortunately, the blind date turns out to be Kang Tae Moo (Ahn Hyo Seop), the young president of the food company where she works. And even more unfortunately, he's interested and now wants to marry her! Hilarious chaos ensues, abetted by the couple's adorable best friends (the second couple), her zany family and his kdrama-loving grandfather. You'll never look at an archaeopteryx (bird-like dinosaur) the same way again. (Netflix)
Tumblr media
TOMORROW
This is a lovely, heartbreaking, oftentimes cathartic drama about people desperate enough to consider taking their own lives and the team of resolute grim reapers who work very hard to prevent their deaths. Comatose Choi Jun Woong (Rowoon) is the newbie in the Risk/Crisis Management Team led by Koo Ryeon (Kim Hee Sun). Lim Ryung Gyu rounds up the team. Head of the Soul Collection Team Park Joong Gil, despite being a fellow grim reaper, is a thorn on the team's side — he has a special animosity for Ryeon that may have something to do with the past. Fortunately, the team has a stalwart supporter in the Jade Emperor (Kim Hae Sook). (Netflix)
Tumblr media
MILITARY PROSECUTOR DOBERMAN
Legal action drama with a touch of comedy is probably the best way to describe this series and it's the perfect leading man vehicle for Ahn Bo Hyun. Do Bae Man passes the bar with basically just a GED and so finds himself unable to find a spot in a decent law firm until he gets an "offer he can't refuse" from corrupt lawyer Yong Moon Go: Serve in the military for five years as a prosecutor and then join his prestigious firm after. The plan is going swimmingly until he crosses paths with another military prosecutor, Cha Woo In (Jo Bo Ah), who is targeting some members of the military brass for revenge after her beloved father's suspicious death. After long-buried secrets begin to emerge, Do Bae Man finds himself reevaluating what it is he really wants to do with his life. (Viki)
Tumblr media
EXTRAORDINARY ATTORNEY WOO
Woo to the Young to the Woo! The series follows Woo Young Woo, a young lawyer on the autism spectrum. She's got a brilliant legal mind, able to see different angles of a case but struggles with day-to-day interactions. Fortunately, she has the people looking out for her, like her dad, her boss/mentor, her law school friend and, of course, the handsome support team member who might just have more than friendship in mind. Park Eun Bin is brilliant as Woo Young Woo, she truly gets you invested in her challenges and triumphs. The legal maneuverings are fairly interesting, especially when they involve a rival law firm and somebody from WYW's past. (Netflix)
Tumblr media
ALCHEMY OF SOULS
In the land of Daeho, an assassin trapped in a blind woman's weak body encounters a young lord from a powerful family who needs help to unlock his powers. Interesting lead and supporting characters, solid world-building, fantastic sword and sorcery action? I was sold from the very beginning. At the end of the second ep, I was absolutely in love with the feisty Mudeok and her rather bratty young master/pupil Jang Uk who just wants his gate of energy opened so he can do what everybody can — cast spells and use a sword. There's a twist at the end of the 20-episode first season, and I guess your enjoyment of the second season would largely depend on how much you accept the change. But in both seasons, the crown prince remains quite the scene stealer and he's possibly my most favorite character of all. (Netflix)
Tumblr media
UNDER THE QUEEN'S UMBRELLA
A truly female-driven drama — from the queen and the queen dowager down to the concubines and, yes, even the court ladies. The series begins with Queen Hwa Ryeong's biggest problem being the four grand princes' rather relaxed approach to their education, lagging behind the other sons of the king via his numerous scheming concubines. But tragedy strikes and the queen and her sons suddenly find themselves fighting to make sure they don't lose not just their positions but their very lives. Kim Hye Soo makes it so easy to root for the embattled queen who wields her position and her eyebrows skillfully to thwart ministers, concubines and her mother-in-law, the queen dowager. I also love that her sons, the four grand princes, are unlike other royal brothers in sageuks — they are close, affectionate and loyal, leaving the dirty tricks to their half-brothers. This series probably has the most satisfying ending among the ones I watched last year. (Netflix)
Tumblr media
REBORN RICH
Yoon Hyun Woo is a hard-working, loyal, no-questions-asked employee of the powerful Jin Family, which controls the Soonyang Group. One day, on an overseas errand to retrieve some secret money, he is betrayed by someone in the family and murdered — but promptly finds himself "waking up" in the body of the youngest grandson of the Jins, back in 1987. How, you ask? I finished the series but that part is still unclear. What's clear is how charismatic and believable Song Joong Ki is as the twentysomething investment whiz Do Jun. And what an amazing actor Lee Sung Min, as Soonyang chairman and patriarch Jin Yang Cheol is. The push-pull in their relationship is what made the series work for 15 episodes. Not that the supporting cast members are slackers. This is one of the best ensembles I've ever seen, the actors really working to make these characters ones you'd love to hate. Some of the business stuff might put off viewers but I found the whole thing fascinating and easily understood. I cheered when Do Jun/Hyun Woo used his knowledge of the future as well as his relatives' greed to take pieces of Soonyang. I'm recommending this series but with a caveat: I found the ending a bit of a mess and rather unsatisfactory. BUT the previous 15 episodes are fantastic and definitely worth a watch. (Viki)
Bonus recommendations
Tumblr media
I recently started dipping my toes into Chinese dramas, even though I'm still intimidated by the episode count. "Love Between Fairy and Devil" is sweet and hilarious and has fantastic special effects. (Netflix and Viki)
Tumblr media
But my heart truly belongs to Li Wei and the sixth young prince of Xin State as they figure out family, politics and love as their "New Life Begins." (Viki)
Tumblr media
Last but certainly not the least, "Pachinko," which even though it stars some of the biggest names in Korean entertainment is not considered K-Drama by its creators. Based on Min Jin Lee's critically acclaimed novel, the series — Youn Yuh Jung, Lee Min Ho and Kim Min Ha are key parts of the ensemble — follows the trial and tribulations of a Korean family over four generations. The story begins in Korea, moves to Japan and eventually spreads to the United States. The story is rich and emotional, the direction precise and the acting superb. It has been recognized in a lot of year-end lists and recently won the Critics Choice Award for best foreign language series. (Apple TV +)

okay so the wifi i'm on right now is shitting itself despite this being a popular study spot on campus but REGARDLESS i'm studying for my third organic chemistry midterm right now (my class grade is a 90.2% so i'm barely hovering around an A and i'd REALLY like to keep it that way as unrealistic as that may be) and as much as i am absolutely loving this class i'm struggling a little with remembering all of the mechanisms (final exam review sheet posted by professor indicates 40 different reactions we need to know).
granted, a lot of them share the same patterns, but i don't know what format i'll need to compare-contrast all of them in in order to have them down pat for may 2. so right now i'm just focusing on this exam, where we've gotta know
radical substitution of alkanes and allylic substitution, the funky alkyl halide ones with the fishhook arrows. the simplified mechanism looks like halogenation except these are done with heat/light. these go through three stages: initiation from nonradical to radical, propagation from radical to radical, and termination from radical to nonradical. you get your radical intermediate via homolytic cleavage, you react it with a hydrogen coming off of the most substituted carbon, you get your next radical intermediate once the hydrogen is gone, you react all your radicals together to tie things up nicely. if your radical is on a carbon that neighbors a double bond, you have a nice stable allylic radical (thank you resonance), but if your radical is on a double bond, that's a vinyl radical and we don't like those... you also gotta pay attention to where your alkene is because that'll affect your stability too. if you're happening to do your reaction with peroxides, you'll be reacting your intermediate with the less substituted area. a halogen? on MY terminal end?
elimination and substitution reactions Sn1/Sn2/E1/E2. these are silly and complicated and i need to make a chart to understand them better, but the substitution reactions will substitute a nucleophile in for the leaving group, and the elimination reactions will make an alkene out of an alkane using a base, and the 2-reactions are concerted with steric barriers while the 1- reactions have a carbocation intermediate with stability as the barrier.
alkyne reactions, including deprotonation (basically acid-base shit), alkyne formation (using acetylene, which makes good internal alkenes and looks like Sn2, or dibromides, which looks like two E2 reactions and can be done with bromides on the same carbon or on adjacent carbons), halogenation (nonregioselective concerted anti-addition of halogens using Br2/Cl2), hydrohalogenation (markovnikov addition of Br, can happen twice if you have two equivalents of HBr, carbocation intermediate), hydration and hydroboration-oxidation (markov and anti-markov reactions, respectively; adding a hydrogen and an OH, keto-enol tautomerism where you end up with the double bond on the oxygen), and three reduction reactions (Pd/C yields alkane, Lindlar/H2 yields a cis(z)alkene, Na/NH3 yields a trans(E) alkene).
anyway i have practice problems to do and the sn1/sn2/e1/e2 reaction comparison chart to make but i'm drinking my first monster energy (ultra paradise. it's good) and i'm getting dinner w at least one of my friends in 25 minutes... calc homework still due tonight but i think i'll be able to get it... exam in 3 hours... feeling good!
