Living the Dream; Mercy
((Ah, this chapter probably is super boring and uncool. I apologize for the rushed chapter. I hope you all are able to enjoy it in the end.))
((Hey look! New chapter! @bored-animator Gonna be honest, probably (it's not) my best work. D:))
https://archiveofourown.org/works/58693333/chapters/169939447
The humans remained at a distance, watching the fight with bated breath. The immense power that radiated from them was breathtaking; there was no way they'd be able to defeat Shattered without their help! It was a miracle they were able to recover Norah. The poor girl laid in Maria's arms while Blue finished healing her injuries. It wasn't much but Norah was grateful and thanked as well as promised the wonderful energetic skeleton that she was fine.
Maria helped her sit up to watch the battle before them, her eyes wide and focused on each skeleton. Dream fought as hard as he could, she could feel the doubt within his soul and it scared her. But, that brother of his... Nightmare, was it? He protected Dream and whatever was spoken in that ball of black goo had rejuvenated her hero. With a burst of strength and determination, he charged back into battle, with his brother at his side.
"I think they're actually going to beat him!" Lily gasps when the three strongest skeletons knocked Shattered down and he crashed into the pavement below.  "This time is different." Blue says, agreeing with them. "I've never seen Nightmare and Dream work together, heck! Even Error is fighting alongside them! There's no way they'll lose!"
"Heh, that wanna be Nightmare has it coming-- boss is going to decimate him!" Killer grins and spins his knife expertly around his fingers. "There's no way that fucker is surviving this." Dust glances over to his companion, his eyes the only thing visible under the shadow of his hood. "Didn't that guy say he can feed off both positive and negative emotions? I doubt Nightmare will be able to kill him." The group nodded, seeming to remember this little fact. "Boss will... Be more than happy to... Hunt him down and... kick his ass." Horror added with a smirk. Cross shook his head but he couldn't deny that Nightmare wouldn't hunt him down and take his anger out on the Dream variant.
~
Pieces of pavement tumbled off of Shattered as he rose from the crater he had created when the Nightmare had sent him crashing into the ground. Grinding his teeth in his anger, Shattered steps out of the hole, his boots clacking against the pavement. Behind him, his tentacles thrashed with his anger, his singular eye light zeroing on Nightmare. He knew he had to get rid of him, but first he'd have to take care of Error. Those blasted strings were an annoyance and painful.
Shattered prepared to set his plan into motion, but magic sprouted from behind him. Looking over his shoulder, Shattered was both surprised and irritated with the two figures who stepped from the portal.
His own brother and--
"Sup, buddy!" The Killer variant grinned, yet it didn't match the dangerous look in his eyes. He stood in front of his own Nightmare, protecting him.  "What in the Stars name do you think you're doing, Killer?" Shattered seethes, turning his back on the others to glare heatedly at his former subordinate. It was clear whose side Killer has decided to take on. The Killer variant tilts his head then gestures towards Nightmare. "What does it look like, Dreamy? I've switched sides again~ You never came home and I got tired of watching your little pet. Besides, your brother was so lonely~ I couldn't just leave him all to his lonesome." Nightmare rolled his eye light, it was then that Shattered noticed the wrapping around Nightmare's injured eye socket. "I see you never recovered your other eye, brother." Shattered mocks, smirking cruelly.
"That is enough of your foolishness, Dream. I've had enough of your idiocy; stop this pointless mission and go home." Said Nightmare, his tone spoke volumes to how fed up he was of Shattered's foolish goal. "Pointless? You're the one who wanted to make those who hated you, who hurt you to suffer. I'm making that wish come true!" Shattered explains mockingly, yet deep down he truly wanted to hurt everyone who hurt his brother.
“My only wish now is to live in peace, far far away from you and all those who dislike me.” Nightmare explains. Shattered’s smirk falls and he growls in his anger, seething. “Then why are you here, brother?” Nightmare rolls his eye light again and heaves a sigh of annoyance. “To stop you, obviously. This isn’t like you, Dream. Halt this foolish battle and go home.”
“Your human is waiting for you and if Killer is telling the truth, they are all alone. Horror and Dust have left as well.”
The anger heats Shattered and his soul twists in worry. His human is needing him. The others have abandoned them. But, the others– “Listen to your brother, Shattered.” Dream’s soft, kind voice calls from behind him and he tenses. “I understand more than you know, how much you want to make your brother happy. To make him safe again. But, he is safe. Look at him.” And Shattered kicks himself mentally for doing as his Variant tells him to.
His singular eye light studies his brother and for once, he sees it. Nightmare… His Nightmare is healthy again, stronger than he was the last time he had seen him. When he had eaten the corrupted apple and beat Nightmare. “It doesn’t change what I’ve done. To him and to the others.”
“I forgive you, Dream.” Nightmare speaks, startling Shattered with the offer of forgiveness he never thought he’d get. “Just go home and care for your human. I know you care for them, I feel it even now. Deep in your soul, you wish to return to them. So, go home.”
“It’s not that easy.” Shattered admits and he jolts in fright when a hand grasps his shoulder. He swivels his head to glare at his Variant who only offered a kind, sympathetic smile. One that he hated to see. “It may not be easy and it may be frightening. But, you will thank yourself in the end, and so will your human.”
Shattered narrowed, confused glare is narrowed at Dream. “It’s not that easy,” He repeats again. “I’m not convinced you will just let me go. If not you, then your brother and that annoying string boy won’t let me go.”
“You’re right, I’ll always be hu-u-unting you do-o-wn.” Error says with a foul grin. Dream sent him a warning look but Error was unmoved. He would hunt Shattered Dream down, after all; he was an anomaly.
Nightmare crosses his arms over his chest, his tentacles twitched and swayed, his irritation shown through their behavior. “I will release him but know this; I won’t hesitate to hunt you down if you harm those who are mine.” He warns again, and Shattered rolls his eye light; Dream felt his soul skip a beat at the warning. Knowing now that his brother cared for him. He blinked away tears of joy.
The silence stretched over the group, yet the Guardians could feel the mortals’ emotions on the matter. A few were angry that they were letting Shattered Dream just walk away from this while others were relieved to see the end of such a drawn out battle. Thankful that no one died.
“I will leave.” Shattered finally said, his thoughts a mess in his head. He glances down at Dream with a stern glare. “I will not hesitate to harm those who hunt me down.” His warning was meant towards Dream’s brother and Error. It would have to do. Dream nods. “I wish we met on better terms, I’m sure we could have helped you-”
“Please, I’m past helping.” Shattered snaps, interrupting Dream and he was pleased to see that smile fade from Dream’s teeth– “Your human is free from my magic. But, she will have plenty of nightmares.” Shattered explains with a cruel grin. While Dream was happy to hear Norah was free from Shattered’s magic, the night terrors were going to be hard to shake. “Thank you, Shattered.”
Shattered turns away from Dream and his brother gestured for him towards the open portal. “We will drop you off–”
“I can manage.” Shattered snaps at his brother. He hesitates, his eye light studying his brother one last time; a warm feeling spreading in his soul for once… He was relieved to see his brother recovering well. Despite hating what his brother did to him, Shattered still cared. “See you around, brother.”
“See ya, Dreamy~” His subordinate winked mockingly and it sent irritation through his corrupted body. “Good luck with that little brat.” Shattered sneers and Nightmare grins. “I have him wrapped around my finger, brother. Something you never mastered.”
Before Shattered could bite back a response, Nightmare turned and stepped through his portal, Killer skipping after him.
Hesitation halted Shattered in place, he slowly turned to regard the skeletons and humans still silently watching him. He did feel a bout of relief that he no longer had to fight them, to deal with them. His eye light landed on his variant, the soft and golden Guardian. It truly hurt to see him, to see how happy he was– to see him get what Shattered always wanted. “Just know, I will always hate you.”
The admission made Dream jolt as if the words hurt him. “Why?” He asks, and Shattered frowns, and sadness wracks his soul. “You received everything I’ve always wanted.” It was all he offered before taking a step back and allowing the corruption to swallow him whole, teleporting him out of this AU and to his home…
~
“That was very anti-climatic.” Atara commented with a bored sigh. “But, thank the Stars that that is over!”
Everyone couldn’t help but agree. It wasn’t how they expected the fight to end, but they all were so relieved.
Nightmare turned away from Dream to reunite with his team and opened a portal. Dream gasped and hurried over. “Nightmare!” His brother turned enough to look at his brother, a bone brow raising in question. “You’re leaving?”
“Obviously. I’ve had enough fun for today. I’ve been fed well and wish to relax at home.” Nightmare explains, but he sees the hurt in Dream’s eyes and he sighs heavily with a roll eye. “We will see each other again, brother. We have much to discuss.”
Hope replaced that sadness within Dream and tears sprang to his eyes. Nightmare rolled his eyes once again and he turned away. “Take care, Dream.”
He watched as his brother and his teammates stepped through their own portal. Error, poor guy, got tired of the boring display of brotherly love and had left long ago.
Ink and Blue hurried over and practically tackled Dream with a tight embrace. “You did amazing, Dream!” “I knew you could do it!” Dream laughed as he hugged his friends back. He knew there was much to talk about with them as well, and as he opened his eyes to look at the humans he had been hanging around with these last few months, he realized he needed to speak with them as well.
Exhaustion gripped his body and soul and he stumbled; if Blue and Ink hadn’t been holding him, he would have hit the ground. “I am very happy to be done with this battle, but I think it would be wise to go home and rest.” Dream suggests, and everyone nodded in agreement.
Maria smiled and offered her home for recovery. “I will make sure to cook plenty of food!”

Hi 👋🏻
Although I've been studying German for half of my life, I still don't know the important stuff (am I frustrated? Yes)
So, I need the gentle help of my beloved german-speaking mutuals:
How do grandmothers call their beloved ones? Or, how would you address to a little boy? Lovely nicknames, whatever comes to your mind :D
No, I'm not a grandmother wannabe, I just have to write a chapter for my current story, and I have no clue how to call the said little boy :D
I've been called "nani" for years, but it's hard to translate it to English, and it won't fit the story, sadly.
Thank you 💚🐤

HT!Sans, the Househusband.
[Totally typed this on my mobile phone, but inspiration hit me- I had to write something quick and cute. I hope you all enjoy!]
[Reader has no name. Is female.]
It was a terrible day at work, having to deal with her co-workers acting idiotic, as well as having to deal with her asshole of a boss. Honestly, she started to consider finding a new job soon with how stressful work has been becoming. Her wages weren't worth coming home every day feeling so very exhausted; physically, mentally, and emotionally.
All she wanted to do when she got home was to take a nice warm bubble bath and stuff her face with the most unhealthy snacks she had stocked in her food pantry. Maybe she had enough money to get McDonald's for dinner? Pay day was just a few days away, and this was a special occasion, after all.
She caught herself drooling at the idea of ordering the greasy food off the food delivery app, she quickly wiped away the small drop that managed to escape from the corner of her lips as she fished out her keys from her pocket. Her poor feet ached from having to walk at least five blocks from her place of work to her apartment. ((That asshole a few months back, totaled her car when he crashed into her, and to her luck - she didn’t have enough money to buy a new car.))
The key was shoved into the lock and twisted to the side, successfully unlocking her door. She blew out a sigh of relief; she was so ready to relax -
As soon as she opened the door, two large bone arms snatched her up off her feet, and she was pressed into a large, solid chest. In her surprise, she dropped her keys; she vaguely heard the muffled thumping of the keys landing on her carpeted floor, next to her attackers slipper-wearing feet.
"Mmm~"
Her attacker purred as he nuzzled into her hair, cooing happily now that his lover was home. After he got his fill (for now) of his nuzzles, he pulled her back enough to look upon her pretty face. "Hi~"
Laughing, she reached up and patted his cheekbone before cupping both sides of his face and leaned in to kiss the corner of his teeth. It always surprised her how easily her husband could make her stress of the day melt away. "Hello to you, too." She laughed cutely when he chased after her to receive more kisses when she pulled back. "Missed you." He hummed to her. "Aw," She cooed, her arms wrapping around his large skull. "I missed you too, babe."
With her latched onto him, her large skeleton husband carefully balanced her on one arm while he flicked his wrist and used his magic to pick up her keys and backed away to kick the door shut behind him. He carried her towards the living room, where he plopped down on the large sofa, tossing the keys onto the coffee table so he could cuddle his cute wife closer.
-
Sans waited so patiently all day for his cute little wife to come home from work. He always missed her, from the moment she left the apartment at seven in the morning, until the moment she came back home. He loved her so much, and it pained him to have to see her leave. He wished he could just follow her, like a love sick puppy - she would be so much happier if he could go to work with her.
He hated how she always came home looking so tired and worn out that her body AND soul looked withered. But, he made sure to give her the attention she needed, keeping her close that he could hear her soul call for his, needing his aid in replenishing her happiness.
She never tried to push him away; she always held tightly to him until she felt sleep, wanting to take her over. Sans helped ease her to that point, nuzzling and kissing and nipping her where he could reach. Of course, the moment she mumbled a whine about not wanting to go to sleep yet, Sans sat up and suggested having a snack before he got dinner started. Got to make sure his lovely wife was well taken care of!
After her snack, she managed to sneak away from Sans to clean up and change while he started on dinner. He always knew what to fix when she had was having a bad day. One of her favorite comfort meals.
To his excitement, his wife emerged from the bathroom not long after he got the food cooking. Turning to observe her, he was pleased to see she decided to wear her cutsy short pajama shorts and a tank top- his red eye light dilated at the missing undergarment that she would normally wear under her shirt.
She must have noticed where he was looking as she shuffled in place, her hands raising to pick and play with her tank top straps, nervously. "I-I didn't want to mess with a bra, I know it looks bad-" She shrieked when he suddenly scooped her back up into his arms, his face nuzzling into her chest, making her bark out bout of laughter, her neck and face blossoming a bright red. "Mmm, you're perfect."
Her heart swelled with affection for her husband. It caused tears to spill from her pretty eyes. The sound of her sniffling and feeling of her tears drip on his skull. He pulled back so quickly to see if he had hurt her. Panic reflected in his red eye light as he scanned her face. (It wouldn't have been the first time that the nasty crack in his skull hurt his sweet wife before.)
She smiled lovingly to her husband as she rushed to wipe away the tears. "'M okay, I promise. You just make me so happy." She leaned in and pressed several butterfly kisses all over his skull, making sure to nuzzle him after each kiss. She swore she could see little hearts float up and away from his skull as she attacked his flawed skull with her kisses. His eye light pupil definitely was in the shape of a heart!
"My sweet and loving skele-husband~. You make everything so much better." She sighs as she presses a kiss to his teeth, which this time he is happy to press into. They spent the next few minutes sharing a few more kisses before she had to pull back to breath in more air. "Love you, Sans."
"Mm," He purred lovingly. "Love you, too."
If HT!Sans was a househusband. He'd 1000% drop whatever he's doing ad soon as ypu come home and stamp-runs all the way to the door like
OuO

Omg, Ink to Cross!
Ink stares at the new skeleton with confusion, his eye lights changing shapes and colors with each blink as he ponders. "Huh." He finally huffs out. "That's interesting."
Cross frowns and sinks a little into himself. "What is?" He should have asked-
"You're not supposed to exist." Ink replied boldly. Not to be harsh or anything, it was the truth. This alternate version of Cross should have never- "What?" Cross asked with a hiss, his glare fixed on Ink.
"I've never seen this before. I've seen some trees," Ink continues to explain what he means. "But, I've never actually met a whole person that shouldn't have been born before. Strange. Anyway!"
"Uh- Wait. Can we go back to that while 'I'm not supposed to exist' thing? I think that's pretty important!" Cross tells the inky skeleton, panic and confusion filling his soul.
"Oh! Well, that's easy! Your AU was destroyed before it could really begin! That's why you shouldn't exist! But, since you're here! Would you like to draw with me?"
Cross looks at him in utter disbelief, his jaw having fallen open at the vague explanation. 'WTF?!'
"Huh. That's interesting."
"What is?"
"You're not supposed to exist."
"What?"
"I've never seen this before. I've seen some trees that weren't supposed to grow, some relationships that weren't supposed to form, witnessed many, many events that went against the universe's grand design, but I've never actually met a whole person that shouldn't have been born before. Weird. Anyway -"
"Uh, can we circle back to that whole 'I'm not supposed to exist' thing?"

Natsuki is acting weird.
Well—weirder. He’s plenty weird in the first place, in Mafuyu’s opinion. And, as Natsuki’s younger brother, his opinion matters the most! Usually Natsuki is holed up at the university lab tinkering on his projects, working his part-time job at the antique store, or passed out in bed because of all the weird hours he keeps. He never hangs out with any friends and he never steps outside unless Mafuyu drags him somewhere, and his chronic RBF, more often than not, lands him in trouble with people who think he’s giving them attitude.
(Which, to be fair, Natsuki usually is. He had taught Mafuyu how to antagonize people before teaching him how to read and write.)
But now. Now! He smiles! At his phone! Not one of his smug know-it-all smirks that pisses Mafuyu off—no, these are real, actual, genuine smiles! Yeah, they’re small, because Natsuki isn’t much of a smiler in the first place, but they're still smiles! Mafuyu didn’t even know Natsuki could smile like that until he actually saw it.
The other weird-er thing is that Natsuki has been venturing outside the house more these days. Usually Mafuyu would be happy that his brother is expanding his social life, but he never tells Mafuyu where he’s going, and he hasn’t told Mafuyu about anyone new, either! He leaves looking soft and dopey and comes back looking soft and dopey. Natsuki isn’t soft. He once tasered a guy for trying to proposition Mafuyu. Just what could have happened to make him act so bizarre?
It’s a whole new side to his brother that Mafuyu isn’t familiar with. It’s a whole new side that Natsuki solely reserves for this outsider in their lives, and Mafuyu doesn’t even know who it is.
(No, Nao, Mafuyu isn’t jealous and he doesn’t have a stupid brother complex, shut up.)
Mafuyu has to get to the bottom of this. If something is wrong, his stupid self-sacrificing big brother wouldn’t tell him until it’s too late!
“I don’t know, Mafuyu,” Nao muses. Her side of the table is messier than Mafuyu’s, who color-codes all his notes and has one of those giant tabbed binders that neatly houses all his assignments. Nao’s textbooks are stacked precariously at the edge of the table—pushed out of the way to make room for the food she ordered—and her homework is spread across the surface in stray sheets of paper. Later, when they leave, she’s just going to sweep everything into her bag without a care in the world.
Nao takes a sip from her persimmon smoothie and continues, “Your brother probably has plenty of stuff he never tells you about. Are you sure you’re not just imagining things?”
“I’m not!” Mafuyu slaps a hand against his math textbook. “He’s texting all the time. He doesn’t have enough people he likes to text like that. And he smiles! The last time I saw him smile—and I mean actually smile—was when our parents got arrested!”
“Hmmm,” says Nao. “Has anyone ever told you guys that you need therapy?”
-- an excerpt from a natsushin coffee shop au, in which shin is works at the sakamotos' café, natsuki is pining but refuses to show it, and mafuyu is a worried little brother (ft. best friend nao and mildly crushing on amane)

I got inspired by @rosehippiefield's post about Shin's advice on how to deal with Midori and his own behavior towards Sara (that you can find here!). It made me want to analyze more his reasons behind all of his cruel acts. And how some other people from our main cast were affected because of the death game. So.
People can act very differently in different situations. Their emotions and behaviors are always connected to something they go through. No matter if we understand why and how.
So people that are aggressive, cruel, judgmental, rude, miserable, or every other negative adjective usually have a reason for being the way they are. Knowing the reason is really important for understanding others behavior. Of course understanding the reason doesn’t automatically mean we should like this person or forgive them!
Aggression can happen as a natural response to stress, fear, or a sense of losing control. People also react harshly and negatively when they feel like they are mistreated, people don't listen to them, or they are just frustrated. Fear is a really important factor in how we act too.
In Your Turn To Die we have a really specific situation. A few unsuspecting people got kidnapped and put in an unknown place to fight for their lives.
Death itself is a really strong stressor. So adding to it that basically everything is unknown is really not helping with the pressure.
Like was said before, people can behave differently even in similar situations. Really important are the personality, previous experience and predispositions.
Our main cast experiences different things, and because of that, their perspective and way of going through their current situation can be even more different.
Each of them will react differently because of the trauma and reactions of the body to the situation. Some of them even had traumas before landing in the Death Game by Majority.
There, of course, will be feelings connected with experienced trauma (during and afterwards). There are some that we can also see in the game:
Anger
Numbness or difficulty feeling any strong emotions
Lost
Fear or panic
Grief
Worried
Irritation
Confusion
Restless
Hypervigilance
Shock or horror
Shame
People may be affected by trauma in many different ways. There may be problems with looking after yourself, not being able to have a stable job, being distrustful, forgetting things or they can struggle with low self-esteem. People like that can experience flashbacks, panic attacks, dissociation or suicidal thoughts.
After this long introduction, let's take a closer look at some of our characters!
NAO Nao lost someone very dear to her. She even went a little crazy for a moment. But she is so strong mentally she moved past the death, she didn't give up.
A lot can be said about Nao. That she is rational, really smart, selfless and she is not afraid of making sacrifices for a greater goal. That's why it was her that pushed fake Reko down the pit, saving Sara from making the decision.
She doesn't hold a grudge against Shin. She really pays attention to details, so she notices Reko behaves differently. But she still hits Shin because she got scared (Kai's making) and, more importantly, we get the Massacre Ending.
It is not the greater good, this is not selfless. It is selfish and only for her (and Sara), so she can live. Because it is not fair for anyone to be destined to die.
KANNA Kanna was searching for comfort from Sara. She viewed her as someone safe and trustworthy. Someone she can look up to as a big sister.
I am not saying she was replacing Kugie, but at that moment she needed a sisterly figure and Sara suited this role so well. She gave her support and spent time with her. Sara was the one that was there for Kanna and was from the very beginning.
We see Kanna as someone cowardly, shy and innocent. Maybe a little too trusting. The death she experienced at the beginning didn't help and only made the whole experience worse. But she was with people that she trusted and wanted to help. That she was so brave in the second Main Game, making her death a choice. And even if she lived, her demeanor changed. At least a little. She wants to live for those that died for her and it is making her stronger.
Kanna will always be Kanna, but thanks to all the people that support her, she could show her real self. The prettiest flower in the game.
Q-TARO Q-taro is someone who changed his ways. He could escape with the tokens he got (and did), he could leave Gin for dead. But he wants what he thinks is the best. Being alive was the best he could think of at the beginning.
He is an easygoing and friendly giant with high levels of anxiety and selfishness. He has his moments of doubt, like with the tokens.
When we give him enough tokens, he escapes. Even when Rio tells him that, if he inserts all tokens, everyone else will die. Even when he is offered his tokens back. He just apologizes and turns away from Sara.
When we won't do the trade with him, he can't go with his plan. When his doll talks during the coffin roulette, he admits he wanted to abandon them all even if it meant killing someone. And when he talked with Mai after she woke up, he said that he would do the same as her, but he didn't have the opportunity.
He trusted Mai and didn't blame her for the stabbing because he understood. He made the whole plan of saving others by dying himself. Sacrifice from a guy wanting to live hits so hard.
KEIJI The thing with Keiji is complicated. He is a liar, a murderer and a skiver. But he also is so full of guilt and anger. He is still grieving. Years passed, but he still feels guilty about the death of Mr. Policeman.
He is angry, desperate, lost in the dark thoughts. And he acts on them during his First Trial. But Megumi was his friend once, someone really important to him. They drank together, worked together, spent a lot of time together. So he had another's blood on his hands and the whole death game on his head.
He isn't trusting anyone because he knows he himself has something to hide. But he suppresses all the emotions and hides behind humor and fake flirting. He lies about being a policeman because he thinks that would be the way for others to not think he did anything horrible.
He doesn't feel like someone who can do anything about his situation, let alone theirs all. It is easier to give responsibility to another person, even if she is only 17 years old.
He acts how he believes is the best. He acts without telling the person that is supposed to trust him the most his plans. For the best or for the worst.
The death game isn't really a good supplement for therapy.
SARA Sara is very strong-minded, very befitting for a leader. She is our main character, so it is obvious a lot will revolve around her. But even this is too much. There is just so much on her shoulders.
She is only in high school but she almost died a few times (and she did, probably, as we are the players, so the GAME OVER screen isn't strange for us) in a very short time. She got people she can trust and those that hate her and make her life harder. She became a leader for all of them and they look up to her.
"Are you going to be our goddess of victory... or our angel of death?”
A lot of pressure is put on her. She will be the reason everyone will survive or die. Isn't that comforting, Keiji?
But okay, some may say that she is a born leader anyway, but she holds onto Keiji really hard. He is her anchor after Joe. It is also a way to destroy her if she will ever lose him. Because while Sara is she's extremely competent, she makes mistakes. But we know she will always get up.
Sara is also even more interesting, because we know her rate of survival is 15.5% (and the % of our participants is really curious in itself and deserves its own post). We saw a lot of faces of Sara thanks to simulations. She could be merciless, manipulative and ready to do anything to survive. She is obsessed and selfish, not caring for anyone else, just herself.
And we can't blame her, she wants to live. When we are desperate, we do things that aren't good. Those horrible situations, life-threatening ones, make us different people.
Have you ever heard about the Johari Window?
The Johari Window is a quadrant diagram that is used to show how we know ourselves and how others perceive us. It can be a tool to understand ourselves—how we behave, our character traits, skills, attitudes, knowledge and reactions.
Like the name suggests, there are four parts to this model.
Tumblr media
Open Part - there are things that are known to you and others. If you know you are shy and you act shy towards other people, all of you know that you are shy. We know Nao is an artist. She knows that and tells others she went to study art. She was completely Open with that.
Hidden Part - is when there are aspects only known to you. You keep them hidden from others so others won't know those things about you. For example, you can be very opinionated, but you don't show it to others. Then they can't know that your opinions may be different than theirs because they can't hear your thoughts.
Blind Spot - it is the complete opposite of the previous part. There are things that others know about you, but you are not aware of them. Kanna is really clever. She figured out the password to Kai's laptop when Shin had a problem with it and she knew that Shin tampered with her sister's message. But she still thinks of herself as not smart (she says that in chapter 2 part 2).
Unknown Part - this one is really interesting, because about this part neither you nor others know about yet. Mostly it stays a secret, but sometimes, where there is a really unpredictable situation that can, for example be life-threatening, that Part may come to light.
We never can know how we will behave during those situations that we never lived through. We don't know if we will fight, flight, freeze, flop or fawn.
Q-taro and Sara are perfect examples of the Unknown Part of the Johari Window.
Q-taro's high level of stress pushed him to do some horrible things. When he had to actively choose if it was him or Gin that would die, he didn't do anything. He let Gin get hit because he was afraid to die, even if the poison would work slower on him. Some shame him for this, but if we were in his place, would we do differently? Click a button that could kill us. We don't know and we hopefully won't.
We may say we would do or not do some things, but until the situation happens to us, we won't be sure.
Similar with Sara and her behavior. All the things she did, all the thoughts, emotions, relationships and ways of doing things we see are a result of some really important factor. She changes after the logic route, why?
Because of Joe. He is her tranquilizer, her anchor, her morality. He was the person that made Sara care during the death game.
Her whole behavior switched only because of one person.
When we pick Kanna to live, Sara is how we know her. Compassionate, strong, mature. But when Shin lives, Joe dies again, but this time in her memories. It makes the situation similar to those in simulations.
Even Sara is terrified by what she is doing.
SHIN (+ Midori)
And that's why Shin is so suspicious of Sara all the time! But let's start at the beginning with him.
Shin is, like every character in YTTD, a very complex character. We know him as an annoying, scary and cruel man for most of the game. Some of us hate him still and some took him as their favorite.
What he did and his reasons aren't forgettable. But it is nice to see a reason behind his behavior.
Midori is sadistic and really cruel. He torments others for his own amusement and loves to watch them break. He loves to make others be afraid of him—and that's why he always tries to be intimidating by holding eye contact and saying unsettling things. He is mean and childish, but he also is really good at reading people. He uses that for his own use, to push the limits of others, control them and let them fall in desperation.
Shin spent a lot of time with Midori. He was his only friend in school and he was so scared of him. Midori did everything to make Shin uncomfortable, but also unable to leave him.
But thanks to that, he knows a lot about him. Shin knows Midori loves control, so taking it away from him is lethal. He knows that Midori is so afraid of death (even if Midori thinks nobody will ever kill him), he is a coward that cares only about himself.
When Shin gives Sara advice, it is so ironic. He tells Sara she should act how he acts towards her. To try to intimidate Midori, make him scared, take away his control.
The advice is important, because only thanks to that can we see how Shin sees Sara and his situation.
Sara is so similar to Midori. Shin can see in her all those cruel acts that never happened. She is in so much control because she is the leader and makes a lot of final decisions. She can be so intimidating. She has sometimes emotional outbursts (that are entirely justified). Additionally, she has a really high % of survival that automatically makes her the most dangerous enemy.
Of course Sara isn't like Midori. Their reasons are different and Sara is genuinely a really good person. But Shin has problems with distinguishing them.
Shin definitely got traumatized during his "friendship time" with Midori. It affected him so much, he is searching for danger in anything remotly similar to what he already knows. His defence mechanism and heuristic try to save him, but it does more harm than good.
He got hurt by someone close to him, so he is extra careful. He doesn't want to be too close to people, prefers to be distant and mean. He prefers to act as someone he hates and is scared of, why?
Because he is afraid. In his own eyes, he is weak and easy to get rid of if he is useless. He thinks the way to survive is to act as the only person that made him feel the worst.
Intimidation, cruelty, cunning, manipulation, lies. Those are the keys to survival in the world where it is kill or be killed. If he is those things, he may live longer than if he were himself.
But as we know, Shin also isn't like Midori. He cares—for Kanna, Gin, even for Keiji and Sara. And he wants them all to escape, despite everything. But going back to old Shin isn't an option anymore. Too much has happened.
Fear is infinitely connected with anger. Anger makes people mean and impulsive. That's why after Kanna's death, he made the worst Joe experience for Sara. That's why he was so mean to Kanna when it turned out that she isn't the Sacrifice and is ready to die for him.
That's why he hates Sara. He is so, so afraid it hurts.
He wants to destroy any possibility that could hurt him and the only way, in his opinion, for that to happen is to hit first. And that's how they should fight with Midori.
Fight fire with fire.
But if anyone knows how extinguishing fire with fire works, then they know that at the end both fire dies and the forest will still be burnt. There will always be victims, no matter if they are main or side characters.
Fire destroys. Midori is so widespread that he can't be stopped by using only water. Sara is a small fire that Shin wants to nip in the bud before it is greater than the forest itself.
But we are heading towards the end slowly. There are fewer and fewer people. Relations will always be strained but also deeper, on another level. Let's see how they will act in the final chapter!
THE END
Finally, I just want to say: there always will be choices to choose, decisions to decide and fires to fight. We can hate, love or like anyone for any reason, but it is important to understand the other person.
Sometimes life is so unpredictable. We won't know what will happen and what we will do. We don't know ourselves as well as we think we do.
But let's be kind to ourselves and others. We don't know what they went through and what will happen to us.

"Nao-! I thought that was you...it's been forever!! How have you been??"
Tumblr media
It's only been two years, really...
But things are different now.
The moment I heard his voice, though...
It felt like nothing had changed at all.

The Fight Part One
Dream wasn't a Sans.
He was a Guardian of Positivity made to look like one.
How strange it was to finally see what it was like to fight another version of yourself.
---
@bored-animator
Hello everyone~ Sorry for the long wait!
Oh. That was a long break in between chapters. I kind of did a little summary in this chapter.
I had to be in the right mindset for this one. Rollercoaster of emotions are not fun, but here we are! I'm excited for you all to read this chapter! Please be aware, there is violence and death in this chapter. So, please take care while reading. <3
Characters and their Creators: Nightmare Sans: Jokublog Dream Sans: Jokublog Shattered Dream: galacii
Atara Sol: @cactobutt
The memories played over and over again as if it was a loop.
She knew they were not her memories, but the one who attacked her; the one who put this spell over her soul that caused her to fall ill.
A tree full of golden fruit stood tall and proud on top of a hill; at the base were two young skeleton monsters. One with a smile that was as bright as the sun while the other frowned with nervousness. The villagers were once again asking for a share of the delicious Golden Apples; “We can’t let you have the fruit.” The meek skeleton explained. “It is our duty to protect the tree and her fruit.”
The villagers were unhappy with this, but the brighter skeleton chirped with eagerness that he could aid them. If they couldn’t have the fruit, they would just have to do with the help of one of the Guardians.
Soon enough it became clear the villagers’ greed got to them and they planned to take the tree whether the Guardians liked it or not. It was a terrible fate; the Negative Guardian was beaten and very near killed. He ate from the tree, an apple that immediately rotten and corrupted as he took a bite. His body breaking as the corruption filled and swallowed his body whole.
A being like the one who had hurt her. Yet, this one was different. His cyan eye was cruel as he killed all of the villagers. And when his brother came to stop him, he ate a Golden Apple that turned him to stone- the corrupted brother left him and the Multiverse was filled with such darkness.
Fate was cruel for these two brothers, and it broke her heart to watch.
The moment the Positive Guardian woke from his stone prison, he was overwhelmed with the power of Negativity and knew he had to stop his brother. With little knowledge, the Positive skeleton ventured out into the Multiverse to hunt for his brother. To stop him.
On the way, he met so many monsters and humans who helped him on the way. But, nothing could stop him from making that dreadful decision of living through what his brother had. The Positive one ate from the corrupted Apple and the roles were reversed.
The Positive Guardian became stronger than before, feeding from both Negativity and Positivity. He was angry, yet he wept for the pain his twin brother had faced. From the villagers, the Multiverse, Fate itself. He was angry at his brother for letting him choose this path. He was angry at the villagers for hurting his brother. He would make them pay-
 “How unfortunate for you, my dear. You are the only one left alive to pay for your ancestors' crimes against my family.”
It’s not fair.
It’s not my fault.
It was so long ago, why attack someone who had nothing to do with that incident?
It wasn’t fair.
“I wish I had never been born…”
“Don’t say that.”
That voice. It was familiar, yet not…
But, it’s true. If I hadn’t been born, this wouldn’t be happening to me.
“That’s exactly what he wants you to think. He wants to tear you down until there is nothing left. Don’t let him win.”
The memories faded and once again Norah was in darkness; yet before her was the sun- no. An angel. His presence was comforting and gave her a taste of peace. The darkness all around flinched but did not scramble away. Black tendrils wrapped around her arms, but they were weak and she could see her angel reach out for her.
“I think it’s time to wake up, Norah. Your family is here with you.”
With the bright light like the sun blocking her view of his face, Norah hadn’t a clue as to who was here saving her. But, she knew he could be trusted. She slowly reached her hand out for his, and when her delicate fingers wrapped around his hand, his closed around hers and he pulled her onto her feet, the tendrils ripping away from her.
The peace that surrounded her was like a fresh breath of air. He pulled her forward as gently as he could, his arms wrapping around her body and embraced her. He was warm. He was so warm. Norah felt herself ease into his embrace, her eyes closing; She felt painless, peaceful. Her delicate arms wrapped around his middle and she rested her head on his chest. For once in the last… Stars knows how long she was able to rest.
“I got you, Norah. I got you.”
“It’s time to wake up.”
—---
Norah was in a daze.
Everything was happening too fast; she was surprised she could even remember how to speak.
The Skeleton monster who pulled her from her slumber looks so much like her attacker. But, he lacks the black goop that dribbled down his body. Instead, he was as bright as the sun. Her angel. He looked a lot like that young skeleton monster in the memories she was forced to watch.
You will watch! You will remember what you did to me and my brother!
She remembered how he screamed at her. How angry he was at her- no, not at her. She was sure he saw someone else then. Still, it wasn’t her fault. She wasn’t to blame.
“You.. You’re not the doctor, right?” She asked, she had to be sure. “He can disguise himself.”
The room fell silent, the four humans had to take a moment for that to settle in their minds. Dream tensed, he looked so worried now. “I am not the doctor, Norah. But, the way you describe him… Tell me, have you seen his face?” Norah nodded, and she gestures towards him. “He looks just like you, but with black goo.”
Felix was up on his feet in an instant, his anger returning fast. “You’re the attacker?!” Dream raised his hands to try and calm Felix down. He was so confused; the only one he knew with black goo was his brother. But, he supposed there could be a possibility someone could shapeshift. But with black goo?
“I am not the doctor.” He repeated to Felix. “I do not have the corruption she is talking about either.” He turned his attention to Norah then. “Did he tell you his name?” Norah shook her head at that. She paused and closed her eyes as a dizzy spell hit her after such a small motion. “When he is a doctor, he looks like a normal monster. But, when no one is around, he is back to his black goo body with those tendrils behind him. He wears a crown on his head, or… Not a crown, but a circlet? It looks like two hands reaching for each other in the center- ah, like this.”
Norah demonstrates what she was meaning by bringing her hands together, one with the palm turned up and the other with the palm turned down, both in a cupping motion as if they were reaching to grab onto each other. ((Or to fist bump))
Norah lifted her eyes from her hands to look at Dream and she felt her heart skip a beat before picking up its pace. His face paled and the fearful look he gave wasn’t helping ease her panic. Still, she continued to explain; “His one good eye was golden, like yours. But, he holds no compassion, no happiness in that eye. He said that my ancestors had hurt his family long ago and that I had to pay for their crimes.”
“What the fuck-?!” Felix shouted, Maria snapped at him to not shout or curse in the hospital. Norah ignored Felix’s outburst as she watched Dream slip into his thoughts. She frowned and as she reached her hand out to touch his shoulder to comfort him, the doctor walked in.
“Well, this is quite the surprise.”
Everyone in the room turned their attention to the entryway where the doctor stood. His false smile stretched across his lips as he studied the room.  “What a relief, you are awake, Norah-”
“Enough pretending, you prick.” Felix snapped, his anger targeted at the doctor now. “We know you’re the one who hurt Norah. Drop the fucking act.” His tone dripped with venom, he sounded ready to fight. To tear the asshole into pieces.
“I see.” The doctor said gently, his smile falling for a moment, before he grinned cruelly. “What a relief. This play-pretend was getting old.” The six of them watched in horror as the disguise fell away to reveal a skeleton monster; his black goo, the corruption dripped off of his body and the tentacles at his back swayed like a cat’s tail would.
Just as Norah said, the monster looked exactly like Dream, but with the corruption covering his entire body. Dream noted how the damaged eye socket was opposite of his brother’s. “Who are you?” Dream demanded, stepping in between the monster and the small family. He balled his fists at his sides- he wasn’t all alarmed when his weapons didn’t materialize in his grasp. He left them behind, after all.
“Dream~” The monster purred, his grin widening. “I was surprised you showed up here. At first, I thought you came to stop me, but when I noticed the depression and sadness, I knew you were simply following the same path I did.”
“What are you talking about? How do you know about me? Explain yourself!” Dream demanded, panic settling in his soul that he refused to show. However, this monster before him seemed to know exactly what he was hiding.  “Do you not get it, yet?” The monster laughed. “I am you. My name is Dream- well, not exactly. See, I used to be like you. Until my last fight with my corrupted brother. After he accused me of not knowing his pain, I ate the black apple, and my soul shattered; I became corrupted myself while my brother was back to normal.
“So, yes. I am Dream, but I go by a different name now; I am called Shattered Dream.”
“Why have you attacked this innocent woman?” Dream asked with a stern frown. He stood tall, a barrier between the human mage, her family, and this monster.
Shattered found it interesting that his variant didn’t summon his weapons; and what’s this? No circlet? His cruel smile widened, his tendrils at his back swayed with amusement. “It is truly unfortunate for her. I have tracked down every family that has ever hurt Nightmare. Each one fell easily, without much pain. I was at least merciful with them. But, with her. Sweet little Norah? Her ancestors were the ones responsible for striking Nightmare down. The ones who lied to my face and used me. Fate was cruel to Norah-”
Surprisingly, Dream kicked off the tiled floor and threw a punch at Shattered. The corrupted Guardian didn’t expect Dream to do such a thing. Dream quickly backed away to take his place between Shattered and the mortals, his stance wider and ready for a fight.
“Heh,” Shattered chuckled as he slowly turned his head to smirk at Dream, he wiped away the little mana that leaked from his wound on his face. “Are you really that angry at me for a mortal you have just met? Dream,” He clicked his tongue in disappointment, his eyes closing as he shook his head. His smirk widened as he looked at Dream with such a wicked gaze. “When will you learn that you gain nothing from helping these fools?”
“Traveling the Multiverse and saving Universes that never repay you? Always take, take, taking! You’ve not changed! It’s the Apple Event all over again!” Shattered exclaimed, his tentacles whipping behind him as he raised his voice to Dream.
Norah cowered on her hospital bed, Felix staying as close to her as she could to protect her. Lily and Kai stepped in front of their mother, keeping her behind them in case things got bad. Maria remained in the back, fearful not for herself, but for everyone. For Dream. Each and every mortal remained silent, fearing what the corrupted monster would do if anyone were to break the silence.
Dream’s stern look dipped into a glare. Sweat was beading at his forehead; he was beating himself up mentally for leaving his weapons behind. He didn’t think anything like this would happen!
“I have retired from my duties as a Guardian, so no. It’s not the Apple Event.” Dream narrows his eyes at Shattered. “What I do with my life is of no concern to you.”
Shattered raised a corrupted brow. “Oh?” He looked amused. “How strange, you broke the loop, then?” Dream kept his glare set on his features, but he was confused. What loop? Sensing his confusion, Shattered dived into Dream’s emotions, pulling out everything he has been feeling these last few weeks- and oh~ How delicious~
Dream gasped when Shattered suddenly teleported behind him, his hands grasping Dream’s shoulders and his tentacles surrounding the Guardian. Dream flinched and attempted to break free, but the tentacles found new purchase elsewhere. “You poor thing. Has Nighty really beaten you down enough to make you think all of that?”
“Shut up! Get off of me!” Dream shoved Shattered away, but he didn’t budge. “Poor Dreamy~ Do you truly believe that you’re so weak?” Shattered laughed. “In this form, you are weak. But you can become stronger! You can defeat your brother and take over the Multiverse!” He leaned in, whispering in Dream’s ear canal all while Dream struggled against him. “We can work together. We can rule the Multiverse! There are many others like us out there, Dream~ Think of the possibilities!”
“I said,” Dream growled and with a burst of magic straight from his soul, he shoved Shattered back and across the room. “Get off!”
Kai was quick to pull his sister and mother out of the way as Shattered flew past them and hit the wall. The impact was strong enough it fractured the thick hospital windows. However, it didn’t hurt Shattered as bad as it did the wall. “Such anger~” He laughs at Dream as his tentacles freed him from the wall and he stood tall, his hands held behind his back as if he wasn’t just thrown across the room. His cruel smirk found its way back on his jaw, he looked pleased. “See? Using that negativity will make you stronger, my dear Dream. If only you had used it against Nighty before, you would have won.”
“Shut up!” Dream snapped at him, his anger finally boiling over. He balled his fists as he confronted his newest enemy. “Anger gets you nowhere! It does not win the fight!” Shattered chuckled and raised a brow. “Oh? So, you plan to lose to me?” Dream’s shoulders relaxed as he inhaled deeply and exhaled. He blinked and tried to focus. “I will stop you, Shattered Dream. But, I will use the magic that was given to me. I will use Positivity to stop you.”
“Even if I can feed on either?”
The startled gasp that Dream released was enough for Shattered to know; Dream didn’t know. Shattered’s smirk widened cruelly and his tentacles shot out from behind him, grabbing Dream and slamming him through the windows until he was shot out from the second floor.
“Dream!” Maria and Lily yelled; Lily and Felix were quick to summon their magic, preparing to fight Shattered. He turned to them and laughed. “How cute, do you honestly believe you can defeat me?”
“Mom! You and Kai take Norah out of here. Get somewhere safe!” Lily barked the orders, her glare fixed on Shattered. Maria hesitated, but knew she had to get Norah out of here. “Come on, Kai.” She said quickly, her son hurrying over to pull the IV and blood pressure cuff from her before scooping her up and hurrying out with his mother.
“Foolish.” Shattered laughed. “I will find her. I will always be able to find her, until she takes her last breath.” He smirks at the couple and opens his arms wide, his tentacles splayed out behind him; their pointed sharp tips directed at them. “Let’s see what you’ve got!”
If Dream wasn’t used to Nightmare tossing him around in their fights, this would have been way worse than it is.
Groaning, Dream slowly pulls himself from the wet bushes that caught his fall. He had scratches and bruises all over his body. The glass had sliced through his sweater and pants. Mana flowed from his wounds as he moved to stand on his feet.
This wasn’t good.
Like an idiot, he left his weapons behind. They were so far away-
He raised his hand and tried to call for them, but nothing happened. “Crap.” He hissed and tried to see where he landed. He didn’t go too far, the glass having stopped him from being shot out across the parking lot of the hospital. Thank the Stars he landed in the bushes.
“Oh no! The others!” He exclaimed in panic and started to make a run for it, but his leg gave out suddenly and he fell with a yelp of pain. Panting hard, he took a moment to let the pain pass before he rolled over onto his bottom and glanced down at his leg. It didn’t look broken, but it could be fractured.. He could feel his magic begin to heal himself, but he didn’t have time to wait-
“Dream! Oh thank heavens!”
Startled, Dream raised his gaze and glanced behind him to find Maria and Kai with Norah. “You made it out!” He blabbered in surprise. “W-Where are the others? Felix and Lily?” Kai nodded his head towards the window the Guardian had fallen out of. “They’re facing off that bastard.” Dream gasped and tried to stand up once more. “They’re going to get killed! I have to stop them! I have to lead Shattered away from here! It’s not safe for everyone!”
Don’t move, sir!” Dream was surprised to see a few of the nurses come out from the hospital. “We have the authorities on the way. Please, sit down so we can take a look at you!” Dream shook his head. “I can’t do that. I have to stop Shattered Dream before he hurts or kills anyone else.” The nurses weren’t having it either; “Sir, we understand you want to help. But, you fell out of the second floor window. Please let us check you over!” Dream sighed and raised his sweater sleeve to show that he was healing.  “I can heal myself. It’s alright, I’ll be okay. Please, let me do my job.”
He gently pushed them out of his way as he limped towards the entrance-
“I see why you’ve retired.”
Dream grew tense as he stopped in place before spinning around to see Shattered had slipped out of the broken window with Felix and Lily caught in his tentacles. “You’ve let them fight your battle and now look at them.”
“Lily! Felix!”
“Shit!”
Felix and Lily were unconscious in Shattered’s hold. Both bleeding and bruised up. They really didn’t stand a chance against him. He carelessly tossed them to the ground in front of Dream, his smirk sharpening ever so slowly as he felt the rage build within Dream.
“Ar-Are they alive?” Maria asked breathlessly as Dream knelt down to check them, his magic immediately soaking into their bodies to begin healing them. “They’re alive, Maria. They’ll be okay.” He sighed in relief before raising his gaze to glare at Shattered. The bastard stood there waiting, watching in amusement. “What are you gaining by hurting these people?” Dream asks.
“I already explained my reasoning.” Shattered said with a shrug of his shoulders. “I’m only here for Norah. The others just got in my way.” His own gaze shifted away from Dream and watched Norah cowarded in Kai’s arms and he grins. “Now, if you don’t mind. I’d like to finish my task and leave. I think you’ll be coming along as well, Dream.” The Guardian hissed at Shattered; “Like hell I will!” Without turning away from Shattered, Dream commanded the nurses to get the two unconscious inside, and for Maria and Kai to get as far away as possible.
He straightened and started to walk towards Shattered, all the while trying to come up with a plan to stop him. Shattered chuckled in amusement and readied his tentacles. “You won’t be able to defeat me like that, I’m afraid. If you can’t summon your weapons, how are you going to stop me?” Dream tightened his fists as he tried not to show Shattered his nervousness- he probably felt it.
Before he could speak, a strange crystal like portal appeared to Dream’s right ((Shattered left)) and a thick boot came through, stomping onto the wet grassy ground. A young woman about Lily’s height ((without the boots)) stepped through and grinned. “What did I miss?”
Her hair was two colors, black and red; her bangs were a blood red while the rest a pitch black. She had many piercings on her ears, her nose- there were too many to count. And let’s not get started on her tattoos… Her outfit was rather revealing- a crop top that showed off her midriff, her bellybutton was pierced too and her shorts were well.. Short. Her boots only stopped above her ankles. Dream averted his eyes quickly from her exposed legs, a yellow flush dusting over his cheekbones.
The woman glanced around the group, taking in the scene before she closes her eyes and nods. “I understand it.” Then, with a sudden burst of rage, she darted forward, a boot raising and slamming hard into Shattered midsection; the corrupted monster choked back a pained sound as he went flying back and hit a parked car, setting the alarm off.
Spinning around, the woman glared at Dream with fire in her eyes. “You’re next, goldie.”
Dream gulped as he backed away slowly, trying to explain that he wasn’t the enemy here-
“Holy fuck, Atara!” Kai snapped, his eyes wide at how powerful that kick was. Norah cried in relief. “Atara!” Her soft voice calmed the enraged woman. “Norah! You’re awake!”
Atara rushed past Dream and hugged Norah, making sure to not hurt her. “Are you alright? I’ve been so worried! When did you wake up?” Norah laughs softly and smiles wide, tears in her eyes. “I just woke up, thanks to Dream.” She points towards Goldie. Atara glanced over and grinned. “Hey, nice work, goldie!”
“G-Goldie??” Dream asked, confused. Everything was happening too fast for his liking.
“What’s the goopy guy’s deal, huh? He hurt my besties?” Atara asks as she crosses her arms and gives a stern glare. Dream glances back towards Shattered who appears to be dazed for the moment, before he moves to stand with the others. “He’s the one hurting Norah and is another version of myself. I need you all to get far away so you won’t get hurt anymore. This is my fight-”
“Like hell it is!” Atara snapped at Dream, making him flinch at her volume. “He hurt my best friend! I’m going to pound him into the ground! He’ll be part of the fucking asphalt when I’m through with him!” She threatens and pounds her fist into her hand. “He’s strong, Felix and Lily weren’t able to stop him.” Kai explained. “That’s okay. I’m strong. I can do it.” Atara grins; Dream couldn’t help but think of Undyne. This woman was too much like her.
Turning around, Atara shakes her arms and stretches out, readying herself for a fight. Her look an excited determined one; “Besides, Red won’t let me go to those underground fights anymore. I’m dying to get some punches in!” She explains. Dream is surprised by the name she dropped- “You mean… Underfell Sans?”
“Yes,” Maria sighs, exasperated. “She is in a relationship with Red. She always says they’re fine, but I worry.” Dream blinks as he looks at her before glancing towards Atara, watching her stomp her way over towards Shattered. ((He was slowly climbing to his feet, anger boiling through his corrupted body))
“You disgusting mortal!” Shattered snapped, his tentacles whipping around from his irritation. “You dare touch me?!” Atara grins eagerly, her fire back in her eyes. “You hurt my friends. I’m just repaying the favor. Come at me, wuss!” With her hands raised, one a fist the other beckoning Shattered to come at her, Atara prepared for a fight.
Panicked, Dream called after her to wait- to get out of harm's way. What happened next, Dream didn’t expect. Angry, jagged tentacles flew at Atara and she deflected them each with a burst of magic. Upon impact, the sound of shattering glass was heard and if you looked very carefully, if you squinted… It looked as if walls of gems were shattering where the tentacles hit.
With sadistic glee, Atara charged forwards and threw a punch at Shattered, missing. She kicked at him, and met a tentacle. She spun around and blasted the goopy skeleton with a burst of her magic. Shards of gems embedded themselves into Shattered, slicing through him and cutting down his tentacles. Of course, more grew immediately after, but Atara was keeping up with him.
“You might have known her mother.” Maria began to speak. “Astraea was a very powerful sorceress. She enchanted crystals and gems and gave them to those in need of their power, as long as it was used for good.” Dream nods, the name is familiar. “The name rings a bell.” He tells Maria. “That is her only child, Atara Sol. She was raised in Underfell, has learned to fight and to be strong. After her mother passed away, she had gone through so much trauma. It has been a few years, but she has finally found her place with those skeleton brothers, Sans, or “Red” as they call him, as her partner.”
“I can sense her strong soul.” Dream nods. “She shouldn’t be fighting, though. I should be fighting Shattered. And you should be leaving.” Dream lectures Maria and gives her a stern look. Maria couldn’t stop herself from laughing softly. “You have a determined spirit, Dream. But, you don’t understand. We’re here to help. You’re not on your own, Dream. Your friends are here to help you.”
Dream glanced at Maria, her bright smile warmed his soul. Her positivity gave him strength.
“Let us help, Dream. It’s the least we can do.” Norah’s soft voice caught his attention and had him turning to look at her. She stood in front of Kai as he helped balance her. She smiled and reached out for his hands, gently taking them in her own and gave them a squeeze. “You get stronger when you feed on Positivity? Let us help keep your strength up, then. Okay?” Her smile was just as bright, even after being asleep for so long. Her eyes sparkled even with the evening sky hovering over them. The parking lot lights were the only lights illuminating them; the clouds above covering the moon and stars.
Dream sighs, his gaze falling to stare at their joined hands and he gives a firm squeeze back. “Okay, but the moment it gets too dangerous, you leave.” He says, looking up and back in her eyes, then to Kai and Maria. “I won’t have anyone getting hurt while I’m here.” The three nods, agreeing. “We will, Dream.” Maria promises.

Tentacles covered the young woman, pointed tips ready to pierce her skin. With a yell, her magic burst forth and cut down the tentacles and a boot met his chest this time. Shattered was ready and used his freshly grown tentacles to roll himself back up right. He was getting angrier by the minute. This woman seemed to not grow tired!
His teeth ground against each other as he used his magic to make copies of himself; one copy on his left, one on his right. “Okay, now it’s getting more interesting!” Atara snarked and readily met the first attack.
She used the tentacles to swing up onto them and ran down the length towards the first copycat, her boot meeting his face. His face separated like liquid before it eased back together around her ankle. Startled, Atara tried to pull her foot out before it was too late; the copy’s face stretched out, morphing into a tentacle and it threw Atara away from it. She hit the ground hard, but was quickly back on her feet. Growling out of frustration, she ran towards the copies and used her magic to tear them apart.
Just like a Hydra, each time she split them in half, more copies appeared and soon she was surrounded. “Fuck!” She growled, having no time to react when tentacles rained down on her and gripped at her body. Holding her in place, they repaid each strike she gave them, and more. When they had their fun, they threw her out of the goopy pit before they returned back to Shattered Dream.
Dream was at Atara’s side first, quickly checking over her wounds. “Are you okay?” He asked her, his magic already seeking out her wounds to heal. “I’m fine- ow.” She groaned when he accidentally touched a tender spot. “Looks like I’m out.” She said with a weak grin. “I’m tagging you in, now. Kick his ass for me, okay?”
He couldn’t help but laugh softly. Even after getting beaten, this young woman could still joke around. “I’ll take care of him. Thank you.” He glanced back at Maria and Kai, both hurrying over with Norah. “Take her into the hospital and don’t come back out.” Maria began to argue; “Now, what did we just agree on-”
“Maria.” With a stern snap of his voice, Dream gave her a serious look. “It’s time to go inside. I will take care of him.” Maria frowned. “Dream, please be safe.” She tells him and he nods. “I will do my best, Maria.”
“Ugh,” Shattered grumbled as he suddenly appeared beside them. “It’s disgusting- why do you care for such lowly mortals, Dream? Look how fragile they are-”
The motion was quick and no one knew it was going to happen.
A tentacle, sharp as a blade, shot between Dream and Atara and plunged deep into Maria’s midsection; the tip poking out from the otherside.
Shock was the first emotion Dream felt from all of the mortals. Then, rage and fear and panic. Screaming was heard, a mixture of Maria’s name and pure rage. Maria was raised high above them and tossed aside as if nothing but garbage.
“Weak. That’s what they are, Dream.” Shattered spat, his grin cruel and sadistic. Blood dripped from the tentacle that pierced the caring mother. Rage filled Dream, he was so angry- “You didn’t have to kill her!” Shattered laughed loudly; “Oh, but I did. To prove my point, Dreamy~”
“Get everyone into the hospital, Kai.” Dream commanded, his voice left no room for arguments. Kai shook as he felt lost; what was he supposed to do? If he left Norah here, she’d die too. But, he couldn’t leave his mother dying on the lawn of the hospital. Then, there was Atara- “Come on, big guy.” Atara’s beaten body was suddenly beside him. “Let’s do what Goldie says. It’s important, let’s do this. For your mother’s sake.”
Kai trembled as he held back his tears, his sobs that wanted to come. He had to be strong.  Thankfully, a few staff of the hospital were able to come out to help bring the injured into the hospital. Leaving behind Dream and Shattered Dream.
“You didn’t have to do that.” Dream repeated, his anger now under control, yet his glare remained. “And I told you, I did. You’re acting foolish, Dream. Forget about these mortals. You want to become stronger? Leave them, and come with me. I will make you stronger. You will overcome and defeat your brother.”
Dream remained silent for a moment longer before saying, “My intention isn’t to defeat my brother. It’s to save him. I know he’s in there, waiting to be saved.”
“Dream!” Shattered shouted, his tentacles slapping on the ground in irritation. “He doesn’t want to be saved! Or have you not figured that out yet?” Shattered snapped, his grin long gone and replaced with a scowl. “It’s too late. Your brother is gone. I will show you that. If you come with me, we’ll go see your brother, and I will put an end to all of this nonsense!”
“I don’t want your help.” Dream says. “I want you gone. To stop hurting my friends. You may have given up on your brother, but I haven’t.”
Shattered sighs and rolls his eyes. “Fine. Then you leave me no choice.” Dream was ready this time. The tentacles shot at him, ready to grab him and stab him. He dodged each one as best as he could, receiving more scratches and gashes. But, he carried on. Running towards Shattered, the best he could do for now was blast him with his magic and throw punches.
He miscalculated an attack and was thrown back again, slamming into the ground. He raised his head to glare at his variant, the goopy version of himself raised high with his tentacles as he looked down on him. “Pathetic. You’re weak, Dream. Stop this now.”
Refusing to give up, Dream climbed back onto his feet and got back into a fighting stance. Shattered snorted and rolled his eyes. He shrugged and grinned. “Stubborn boy.” His tentacles shot at Dream once again, ready to knock him down for good.
However, blue strings suddenly wrapped around Shattered, startling the goopy Dream. “What the-?!” His tentacles were caught and strung up, before he was yanked back onto the ground where another goopy version of himself hovered over him.
“How the tables have turned, brother. Looks like it is I who is saving you from bullies.”

~Meeting Them~
“Good morning class.” Miss Sasaki greeted. The students quieted down after a few moments. Normally, it took at least two tries, but this time, they were eager to hear a specific announcement. “Good. Now, before I start today’s lesson. I have some news.” Everyone leaned in. “We have a new student joining us today.”
Curious murmurs erupted through the classroom. They had heard rumors of someone joining, but they weren’t sure if they were true. But now that it was confirmed, they were excited.
“Quiet down, please.” Miss Sasaki asked. Once again, the students obeyed. “Come on in, (last name).” She motioned with her hand for you to come forward.
The sliding door opened, and in you walked. Immediately, the room seemed to become brighter. A cheerful, happy aura radiated off of you. Taking hold of a piece of chalk, you wrote your full name on the board. The other students all watched your hand as it moved from top to bottom. Once you were done, you stepped out of the way, so that they could read it. “Hello! My name is (full name)! It’s nice to meet you all!” You greeted with a bow. Once you popped back up, you smiled to the class. Everyone smiled back. It was as if yours was contagious.
“Great. Now, your seat is behind Yayoi Kise; the blonde right there.” Miss Sasaki pointed to the shy looking girl in the front.
Said girl jumped a bit, seemingly started from the sudden attention. But she quickly did a little wave to signal to you. You happily waved back.
After sitting down if your assigned seat, Miss Sasaki turned to the board, erasing your name. “Alright, now let’s get on with the lesson.”
~~~~
After the lesson had concluded, you were bombarded with questions from all of your new classmates. You were happy to answer all of them, though. Everyone seemed enamored by your kind personality, and they just kept asking more and more questions.
“Come on guys, let’s not overwhelm Mx (last name).” You heard a voice from the back of the crowd. The crowd split, and revealed a girl with long, dark blue hair. She walked up to your desk, and held out her hand. “Hello, (last name). My name is Reika Aoki, and I’m the student council president. I hope you’ll feel welcome in our school.” She gave you a gentle smile.
You shook her hand, all while smiling back. “It’s nice to meet you Aoki! And you can just call me (first name)! I’m already feeling really welcome!”
“That’s good to hear. I’m glad.” She responded.”
Now that the crowd had died down, you finally had the chance to talk to the girl in front of you. She was drawing in a sketchbook, so you tapped her shoulder to get her attention. After jumping, she looked over to you.
“Hi Kise! I can’t wait to get to know you! You seem like a really nice person!”
“Oh… thanks. You too.” She said quietly. You frowned a bit, worried that you had done something wrong.
“Don’t worry, Yayoi’s just shy.” You heard a voice behind you. After turning around, you saw another girl, this time with red hair. “I’m Akane Hino, one of Yayoi’s friends. Put ‘er there!” She held out her hand to shake, to which you did. You had probably done more handshakes that day than you ever had your entire life.
“And I’m Miyuki Hoshizora!” A pink haired girl popped up from behind Hino.
“And that’s Nao Midorikawa.” Hino pointed to the girl in a ponytail who stood close by.
“Hey! I was gonna introduce myself!” She complained.
You just laughed. They all seemed like an interesting bunch of people. You were gonna do your very best to befriend them. But you were prepared for a potentially difficult journey. Because you knew that they would eventually find out about your current secret.
~Meeting Them as a Villain~
You squeezed the packet of ink of your hands, and it burst all over it. You opened your book, and smudged the black goo over its pages. Immediately, the sky went dark, and the people below dropped to the ground in despair. You could feel the negative energy all around.
“Hey!” You heard a familiar voice shout. Looking down from your place in the sky, you saw Hino and her friends.
“Oh! Hello!” You waved.
The girls all looked at you with shocked and confused expressions. Hoshizora and Kise even waved back a little. “Uh, okay?” Midorikawa said. “Anyway, let’s go!”
“Pretty Cure, Smile Charge!” They all shouted, and began transforming. You just stood by, watching the mesmerizing spectacle. Seeing all the sparkly powder poof their outfits into place was so magical! But it only lasted for a moment.
“Oh, yeah! I forgot!” You pulled out a red clown nose from your pocket; given to you by Joker. After glancing around for a bit, you decided on your target. “Come on out, Akanbe!” You commanded, hoisting the nose into the air. That summoned the Akanbe, who took the form of a nearby cherry blossom tree.
Immediately, the girls began fighting it. You just watched, curious to see their power. And you were definitely not disappointed! They kicked and punched it, knocking it over with ease.
“Wow! You guys are so strong! So cool!” You said in awe.
“Um… thank you?” Cure March said, confused.
“Do they seem familiar to anyone?” Cure Beauty questioned.
Shoot. You couldn’t reveal your identity! “I-I shouldn’t! This is our first time meeting!” You stuttered nervously.
As you fumbled around, trying to convince them, your Akanbe was defeated, and the world reverted back to its normal state. “Oh, look at that! You guys won! Great job!” You clapped.
“Thank you! Wait, why are you congratulating us? You’re the bad guy.” Cure Happy said.
“Yeah, now that I’m thinking about it, you do seem familiar.” Cure Sunny pondered.
“Uh- I- Gotta go!” And with a snap of your fingers, you left the awkward situation behind, and went back to Bad End.
~Hanging out With Them as Friends~
(This is after they found out you’re a villain)
“Oh look, it’s (last name)!” Miyuki pointed out to her friends. She then waved both her arms while calling your name, all to get your attention.
It didn’t take long at all for you to notice. You happily waved back, and jogged over to them. “Hey guys!” You greeted, to which they all responded with their own greetings.
“We’re gonna go get some ice cream! Wanna come?” Miyuki offered.
“Well, I was supposed to fight you guys today and collect some negative energy… but getting ice cream sounds way more fun!”
“Thank goodness. I really didn’t wanna have to deal with anything Pretty Cure related today.” Nao let out a sigh of relief.
You just laughed, and followed them to your destination.
~~~~
After a bit of a walk, you all arrived at the ice cream shop. It was small and cute. The interior decor was completely in pastel colors, giving off a sweet, gentle atmosphere.
“What flavor are you guys gonna get?” You asked.
“I think I’m gonna get mango.” Akane said after browsing the menu for a moment.
“I like lemon.” Yayoi said.
“I think the pistachio looks good!” Nao added.
“I’m gonna get strawberry! Pink is my favorite color, after all!” Miyuki said.
“I think I would enjoy blueberry the best.” Reika stated.
“What about you, (name)?” Nao asked.
“Hmm.” You skimmed through the menu. “I’ll get (favorite flavor)!”
Everyone ordered their ice cream, and sat on the tables outside. The umbrellas above them provided a nice, cool shade.
You all enjoyed your sweet treats, all while talking about miscellaneous things. Occasionally, Miyuki would get a brain freeze from eating her ice cream too fast, which everyone laughed at. It wasn’t as funny when Yayoi nearly cried from getting one herself though. After that, Reika monitored everyone to make sure they ate at a reasonable pace.
Akane would always try to sneak a spoonful of someone’s ice cream while they weren’t looking. But you allowed her to a bite of yours, no thievery needed. She eventually stopped once she took a bit of Nao’s though, as she found out that she thought pistachio flavored ice cream was disgusting.
It was nice that even though you’re from completely opposite sides of the battlefield, you can still be friends with the Pretty Cure! It’s always fun hanging out with them. So fun, that you don’t care about being scolded for not doing your job when getting back to Bad End!
