In this video Brandon performs a 33lb sandbag single leg good morning. Here is footwear is definitely affecting his performance. Although, he would argue that because he has incredible hip flexibility and ankle mobility it’s actually good for his Fessional tissue to have so much variance throughout the system and that it makes them stronger, and I would have to agree. But I would still rather him do it barefoot on an airex pad. This is one of the hardest exercises you will ever perform and will build you tremendous superficial back line strength. In this video Brandon demonstrates a single leg 33lb sandbag sagittal plane dead lift while of course rhythmically symmetrically with lower volumes of inhalation and exhalations, breathing in and out through the nose. The soft plyo box coupled with his poor choice of foot wear creates a higher neural demand which creates fascial adaptations throughout his muscular system. The variance of the foot places greater force through the ankle knee & hip joints while incorporating all his fascial lines head to toe. We need to bring up his dead lift strength to match his quad strength. The hip/quad strength relationship should be 1 to 1 otherwise patterning will result leading to reduced force transmission that can come back in the future as an injury which is always tissue dysfunction. Get a hold of my 74-year-old client who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s a year and a half ago. Forgive me for the terrible video it was hard to do two things at once. He’s standing on @naboso_barefoot_technology to activate his CNS from the stimulation the texture of the mat applies to the bottom of his feet where his small free nerve endings heightening proprioception while, enhancing his interoceptive awareness, your feeling sense. You probably can’t tell from the video but while he’s performing the exercises I make him do brain games. I call out mathematical equations and he must come up with the answers and move to the side designated for even or odd. 9 out of 10 of us overbreathe 😱 and prior to just a year ago I myself had been a chronic over breather. It’s one of the biggest health issues you’ve never heard of. It causes fatigue, insomnia, asthma, anxiety, poor exercise tolerance, and both the cause and effect of feeling stressed. Overbreathing is one of the biggest health issues no one talks about. Inhaling high volumes of air depletes valuable CO2 (a hormone within the blood), a critical regulator of many functions in the body. Just the opposite of what we’ve been told! Inhaling too much air can be harmful. Inhaling excess air through the mouth is even worse creating a hyperventilation response called “respiratory alkalosis. Oxygen and carbon dioxide need a see-saw type balance. If one is high, the other is low. We want them balanced and managing each other. Hemoglobin is the carrier of oxygen. CO2 instructs hemoglobin to release the oxygen into the bloodstream. If we take in excess oxygen, we deplete CO2 and oxygen is not released from the hemoglobin. It is bound and unavailable. This is called the BOHR EFFECT. KEEP YOUR MOUTH CLOSED AT ALL TIMES. Mouth breathing, snoring and sighing disturbs the oxygen/carbon dioxide ratio, and impairs the release of nitric oxide from the nose. Nothing better then training in the heat. When you practice nasal breathing while training The body becomes a more efficient system at buffering lactic acid and regulating the internal temperature within the fascia. If I need to open my mouth to breathe and I know I have gone too far either stop and rest or I decrease the ntensity. But I do not push myself past the point of no return like most people you see during workouts where they’re huffing & puffing. Unless you are an elite athlete that kind of workout is a thing of the past. I never want to be so sore that my body feels as if it can’t work out again the next day. I did that for years and naturally I was riddled with injuries. We have all heard this phrase and been instructed many times by countless health professionals to breathe deeply but has anybody actually taught us the mechanics of what a deep breath is? Patrick McKeown author of the best selling book “Oxygen Advantage” (who recently certified me as an oxygen advantage instructor) is bringing to light the true meaning along with the physiological facts of what breathe deeply truly means. True Yoga masters, Tai Chi & Qi Gong masters and most likely the prophets have always known that it is the subtle breath which is a silent, short, gentle, rhythmical deep diaphragmatic breath that is inhaled and exhaled through the nose. We should never wait for science to give us the permission to do the uncommon. On my way to Toronto to become an Oxygen Advantage Certified Breathing Instructor. AIRWAY IS KING We take for granted the physiology of proper breathing. Of course we breathe all day but do we breathe properly? Sadly, for most of us the answer is a resounding no. You mean you need to be taught how to breathe? You mean it’s not automatic after birth? The breath can either be allowed to run haphazardly and create havoc in the body and mind, or it can become a part of your constant awareness and be harmoniously coordinated. Once the breath is integrated into your awareness, you’ll wonder how you ever got along before. It’s not easy to learn to breathe right. It takes dedicated practice to RELINQUISH the idea that a deep breath filling the lungs is best. It’s NOT. A shorter more rhythmical breath into the diaphragm is the KEY. Stanford scientists have identified a small group of neurons that communicates goings-on in the brain’s respiratory control center to the structure responsible for generating arousal throughout the brain. MAR 30 2017 Mark Krasnow and his colleagues have identified a tiny cluster of neurons that link breathing to relaxation, attention, excitement and anxiety.  Try it. Breathe slowly and smoothly. A pervasive sense of calm descends. Now breathe rapidly and frenetically. Tension mounts. Why? Because when faced with stress we tend to open our mouth which only fills the top of the Lungs with oxygen and activates pain receptors in our chest which causes a fight or flight reaction. It also drastically reduces the amount of CO2 in the blood which therefore decreases the hemoglobin release of oxygen into the blood stream. Consequently, the problem we begin to confront when we learn about breathing is that we must bring back into our awareness a whole area of ourselves that we’ve cut off, gradually re-integrating it into our consciousness. Just finished with my 72 year old client who I’ve been working with for over 3 years. Our main focus has been teaching her how to properly breathe by utilizing the power of Nitric Oxide that’s produced in our para-nasal sinuses & throughout our 100,000 miles of blood vessels. She’s lost 30lbs. She’s moves more intelligently. She has less brain fog. She gets irritated less. Better able to handle stress. All through the POWER of N.O. She recently began studying transcendental meditation with a teacher and the teacher told her to exhale through the mouth. After 37 minutes of #breathholding exercises I completed 20 minutes of #fascialfitness always barefoot. By progressive faster movements dynamically loading the muscles. The muscle will be both activated and extended therefore, utilizing fascia’s ( 6x better then muscle ) proprioceptive response.
