My Experience with OBOD
Hello! A long long time ago in a galaxy far awaaaay... I said that i would have updates about the lessons ive been taking from OBOD, Order of Bards, Ovates, and Druids.
Heres my take.
I think druidry is fascinating. I think i am going to stick to nature/Earth based spirituality because it is something i feel deeply connected to. However, I will not be taking the Ovate or Druid course from OBOD.
I believe they mean well, and some of the lessons are informative, if not just telling me things i already knew.
HOWEVER, there is a big emphasis on spending money. Especially when it comes to buying land or making a pilgrimage to stonehenge or other places thought to have druidic origins.
I feel like OBOD is unfortunately run by people who might never have had to experience poverty or had to worry about making rent. They talk often about changing your fiscal ways and habits to become more attuned to a spiritual or true self.
I by no means, have the money to run out and buy land. Especially not with a seed group of people I hardly know. I do not have the means to fiscally downgrade, there's nowhere for me to cut costs. My husband and i live with room mates and have two teenagers to look after now.
I believe respecting the land I'm currently on and its native people and trying my hardest to be green is good enough. I will continue to honor the land spirits and try to connect to the Earth in my own way.
I think if you have the economic means, that OBOD would be a wonderful group to be apart of. That if you have the time and you feel pulled to Druidry, that OBOD is not the worst group to join. They are open minded, inclusive, and even lean towards feminine divine.
But in the long run, i think i could have learned all of the same things from general research instead.
Thank you to OBOD for teaching me all that you have. It was fun, interesting, and I DID learn new things. The classes are simple, sweet, to the point. The poetry and songs are wonderful. It brings joy knowing there is a druid course that people can look into and learn from.
I just wish it wasn't so heavily monetarily involved and run by so many older white people. I get enough of that from my own government.
Much love, Jess.

Local Ecology Calendar- Part 1: Weather
Devo, a Kemetic (that is Egyptian polytheist!) made a great guide to making a calendar based on one's local ecology. It can be used for any cultural focus.
Creating a Calendar Based on Local Ecology: Gathering Information
Building the Backbone of Your Calendar: Weather Analysis
Satsekhem (another Kemetic's) blog post about the backbone
From Devo's page:
Rain patterns: do you have a rainy or snowy season? When is it? Does your rain or snow typically come from a particular direction or location?

i worship my cousins - the trees, the leaves, the mushrooms of the earth,
the flowers that grow high and low, domestic and wild, for beauty and for life;
i worship the cousins that live within and around me - the rocks, the minerals, the fungi and bacteria,
the little parts of us that keep life marching on;
i worship life itself and the cousins it has brought me,
and everything that makes life;
i worship stagnation and change, idleness and motion;
i worship time and space and matter, the foundations of this place;
i worship all there is and all there will be, forever and for always,
because everything there is makes me.

December Solstice Greetings
Happy December Solstice 2022
Photo by Aaron Burden Today is the December Solstice. Seasons Greetings to one and all. In simple terms today the earth tilted away from the sun. This has given rise to the longest night of the year in the northern hemisphere and the longest day of the year in the southern hemisphere. All winter festivals to some extent, are related to this movement in the heavens. Remember to always look up,…

[6-29-22] Today's reading is with my Pocket Osteomancy set!
Tooth: The Tooth is right in the center of the mat at the crossroads of all four seasons. On the one hand, you're open to any potential possibility and ready to make decisions where you need to. On the other, it could leave you with some decision paralysis if you feel overwhelmed and not sure what to do. You're going to need to be very mindful of everything going on around you, and at the same time be able to pick a clear path from what can sometimes feel like too much input.
Vertebra: This bone rests in Spring. You don't have a lot of resources in reserve, but the future looks hopeful. For now, you're just going to need to coast on what you have until you get to a point where you can replenish yourself. Beware of overtaxing yourself, as you may find you didn't have as much to rely on as you initially thought.
Rib: This bone is in Spring, but its head is pinned by the Tooth's lack of decision. Emotionally you may feel ready for a change, but your confusion about what's going on may make it difficult for you to really understand what's going on inside of you. You're going to need to meditate on your feelings and pick them apart to really get a sense of where you are right now, and where you'd like to go from here.
Long Bone:  Bridging Summer and Fall, the Long Bone suggests that your actions are keyed toward movement and growth, trying to put something aside for the future. Unfortunately, the other bones suggest that this may have some wasted potential due to a lack of focus. Slow your roll a bit, and assess whether this is truly the best use of your time and efforts.
Overview: It sucks when you don't have a single clear path to tread; wouldn't it be nice if someone just pointed out the way you should go? That's not going to happen, though, and you're going to have to do the hard work of discerning what's important versus what's just distraction. The good news is that you already have some momentum, and it's mainly going to be a matter of adjusting your course once you have a better idea of what's going on.
You can order the Pocket Osteomancy divination set and book at http://thegreenwolf.com/books/pocket-osteomancy/ and you can get a Pocket Osteomancy reading at http://www.thegreenwolf.com/readings/– and yes, even if you don’t have a Paypal account you CAN use the Paypal option to pay with a debit or credit card!

Just felt like sharing.
But a few weeks ago I was really down. The most stressed and depressed I've ever been honestly. I was riding in the car on our way somewhere and thought to myself: how do I do this? How do I make myself feel better?
And it could have been an unconscious desire I didn't realize or maybe something else reaching out. I Like to think it was a potential combo.
But without warning or prompts (i hadn't thought about this sort of thing I'm soo so so so long) my brain whispers
Go back to the trees
Literal goosebumps, I was genuinely surprised, but I was pleased. I smiled and felt very warm all of sudden.
So I think I'll try to find time again to spend time among the trees and study them, talk to them, get to know them a little better.
Maybe this will help me feel more myself again, just a little bit.🌿 ✨

Bioluminescence Oil, 18 x 24 in, 2015, First in the Bioluminescence series. The light of life and the natural world. In all the vastness of space, as of yet, we know of only one planet that supports life. At least within some great distance from here, life is rare. Each organism being the exquisite and detailed product of billions of years of evolution, life is precious. This point of light and inspiration stands in contrast to the lanterns and lights that are historically thought to be sources of illumination but are now dimmed; mythologies and superstitions humans have created as we struggled in the dark of ignorance to understand our world. But the process of science has revealed a luminous, living planet, more amazing than we could have ever imagined. Where the intricacies of biology are miracles of evolution and our consciousness is a gift of natural processes that allow us to experience what it is to be alive. Prints: https://robrey.storenvy.com
