Based on what I’ve seen from the trailers for Trap (2024), M. Night Shyamalan has a better understanding of the appeal of Death Note than the creators of the Netflix live-action movie did. I mean, if you switch Cooper with Light Yagami, the movie still works. Like, I can actually imagine L as the one who set up the trap.
(Also, that end clip of Josh laughing as an act, then immediately going into a frown when he has to get serious. That’s straight up a Light move)

The audacity of Light to be sad about L’s death in (most) of the adaptations kills me everytime

Specific to the 2017 Death note movie. If you don't know this version, you can vote "I don't know the characters".

were talking movies? You know what I'm excited for? A live action movie of Brave. Truly believe it would be one of the best live actions.
i promise you that there’s never any context whatsoever in which the live action medium will improve an animated property by simple virtue of so, so much of the artistry being stripped from it by it not being animated. every frame of an animated film is literally a piece of art that’s been created bespoke. please stop discounting the animation medium. as an animator, it breaks my fucking heart. stop giving money to disney’s live action remakes I’m begging

just watched noteflix and i swear to u that movie had to be a comedy
i am sorry but that shit was so funny and not in the "haha the jokes they had were funny" i mean "damn they fucked up the plot so bad that this is just hilarious to watch" LITERALLYWHAT WAS GOING ON HERE HELFPFP??????
THE ONLY WAY I CAN ENJOY THIS MOVIE IS IF I SEE IT AS SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FROM DEATH NOTE AND SEE IT AS A COMEDY INSTEAD OF A DRAMA
LIKE
SERIOUSLWHAT WAS THIS
part of me wants to draw light turner and noteflix L simply because like
like it was so fucking stupid i feel like i have to make some sort of meme out of it. or. or something man.
i feel. so.

It's the LITTLE things about the Death Note movie that pissed me off the most, like the moment when L confronts Light and there's that line of dialogue that was surprisingly well-acted and in-character for L - "I don't carry a gun, it's distracting." - and THEN for that detail to be completely forgotten later in the movie when L chases Light in a police-car... and has a gun.
*facepalm*

Should I Watch Death Note (2017)?
I Think That I’ll Be Very Sick After Watching It, But I’m Trying To Watch Every Live Action Adaptation Of Every Anime I’ve Watched.
Just To Be Make Sure I Don’t Miss Anything.

There’s something inherently “cringe” about live action i think.
Luffy stretches in anime and he’s a silly little guy. Luffy stretches in live action and it’s uncanny.
Aang jumps in animation and it looks natural. Aang jumps in live action and there’s obviously wires.
There is physically no way to film the Potato Chip scene from Death Note, shot for shot, without it just looking absolutely Weird
Whats the point of “live action remakes” anyways? What’s the point of remakes? We should reserve remakes for things that weren’t really good to begin with. And if we’re going to remake anything, we should make it animated, not live action. Suspension of disbelief is so much easier in animation, weird camera angles look so much nicer, slapstick lands so much easier, cute animals don’t look like hellspawns, I am BEGGING everyone to just stop “hate watching” these remakes. You already know they’re bad. Just don’t do it. Don’t even pirate it. You really want to lose that many hours of your life?
I realize all of this stems from the “animation=kids” mentality but, given the growing popularity of anime, I’m really hoping mainstream gets the memo

After binging the entirety of death note watched the netflix movie. It's an odd one for sure, with many, many *choices* What confuses me the most is the final song that leads into the credits. The power of Love by Air supply. For some reason, this is the thing which has stumped me. Not the terrible teen romance, not their interpretations of characters, not the slightly off kilter chase scene, but this dang ending song.
It just wraps this entire baffling movie in an odd bow, doubly so with the slightly open ending.

I’m... I’m sorry what??? I’m so late to this news, but first of all Netflix you already attempted a live action Death Note in 2017 and it was absolute garbage that was mocked by the entire anime community. And second of all you’re going to be giving it to the Duffer brothers, who have been shit at developing characters and creating and writing compelling mysteries for the last two seasons of their debut show?
