shotaro is the type of person who is excited about the start of the new year, and he can't believe he gets to do it with you. he keeps telling you all day how excited he is to go out later and watch the fireworks with you. he‘s already picturing how he'll kiss you when the clock strikes 12 a.m. for him, the fact that he starts the first second of the new year with you is already proof enough that the year will be amazing.

i feel like eunseok would rather take it slow on new year’s eve. he would much rather cuddle with you while you two watch a comforting movie at home than worry about the fireworks and everything else that goes along with it. however, he would not hesitate to turn around and give you a passionate kiss as soon as the clock reaches midnight, followed by a whispered ‘happy new year, my love.’

to be honest, i feel like sungchan would make you sit and write down new year’s resolutions or even visionboards. it’s not because he wants to annoy you, it’s because he wants to motivate you and keep up a good energy from the beginning on. he wants to see what you will write and how he can help you with it. for him, the new year means it‘s another year for the two of you to become the best versions of yourselves, individually and together.

wonbin lowkey gives me the same vibes as eunseok, i don’t think he’d do something big on new year’s eve. but he wouldn’t just sit at home either. he would take you out on a walk at midnight so the two of you can watch the fireworks together. wonbin would gently grasp your hands and comfort you, telling you that although this year has come to an end, there are still many more that you two will spend together.

seunghan is also a very festive guy, so new year‘s eve is pretty exciting for him too. he‘s the type to buy lots of fireworks himself and invite his closest friends over so you all can spend the night together. as soon as midnight strikes, all of you would go out and launch the firework. every time it lights up, seunghan would look over to you, wishing that your life would shine as brightly as the fireworks, with him as a part of it.

sohee would want you guys to do something lighthearted as well, but it should still be fun. his idea for the perfect new year’s eve date is: karaoke night. the two of you are singing your souls out until you’re about to lose your voices, laughing and enjoying each others company. once it’s midnight, sohee would dedicate a song to you and end it with a passionate kiss. for him, nothing beats singing a great song to kick off the new year, especially if it's you he's singing it to.

anton would definitely buy fireworks and other items so the two of you can launch it together. although he usually likes quieter atmospheres better, new year’s eve is the exception; it always makes him hyped. he loves whenever you’re stunned by him holding up the firework candle (?) and how your eyes light up everytime these large ‘stars’ shoot out. at midnight, he pulls you in a side hug while watching the fireworks and tells you; ‘the best way to start the new year is with you by my side.’

The morning of the New Year‘s eve, everyone is busy to stick couplets, red lantern, a thriving scene.

started another year alive and surrounded by people whom i love dearly and who i am loved dearly by.

2023 started out with me being too heavily insane to stay a whole day with my friends. spent the first months hospitalized because of the insanity.

slowly got back into real life over the summer. went on vacations, started going to uni again, started engaging in social activities, got a new job. found new and old things that bring me joy and make me feel at peace.

finished the year in a rough patch. winter took a toll on the mind, uni became rough, work got stressful. a christmas break so deeply needed crashed when the triggers got too heavy. slowly got back up again.

was able to spent new year‘s eve with my friends again. surrounded by love and companionship. me being happy to be there, them being happy to be there with me. everyone looking forward to another year together.

the fear of being left behind still has a grip on me. my emotions are still too much for me or anyone else to handle. but i am starting to manage, finding ways to regulate feelings, slowly learning to trust the people i love that they love me too.

my only goal for 2023 is to be kinder to myself. to not judge myself too harshly. to remember that just one year ago i was hospitalized and couldn’t imagine getting close to where i am now. and that’s only been a year.

i can’t fathom to picture what the future holds for me. but deep down i know that in all possible futures i will be surrounded by love and companionship.

This is going to be a pretty weird mix given I don’t watch all that many TV shows and I’ve taken to watching Danish ones when I do.

1. Star Trek, primarily Deep Space Nine and Voyager. Thoroughly to blame for my latent space nerd streak

2. Mythbusters - proooobably the reason fact checking still can be a reflex for me sometimes (though sometimes I wish it were as explosive as it was on the show)

3. Rejseholdet - early 2000s Danish crime series, sort of proto-Scandinoir, and pretty much the show I learned understanding spoken Danish with. Also to blame for the fact that early on my Danish vocabulary consisted of „hello, my name is Kat, I live in X and study at Y“ and „murder, death, dismemberment, serial killer, knife, axe“. That definitely needed explaining, and the explanation is this.

4. Den klassiske musikquiz - it’s a quiz show about classical music in the style of a British panel show. Puns, slightly bizarre outfits, music by people who have been dead for at least a century, ridiculously obscure knowledge… sounds about right up my alley.

5. Den store bagedyst - the Danish equivalent of GBBO. I still can’t bake pretty cakes, but I have been known to start thinking about how the giant cookies from the cafeteria could be a biiit better if they’d gotten fifteen seconds more in the oven. Also one of my best friends got me to watch it because she wanted me to feel better about my German accent.

6. Mayday - plane crashes and how they happen, or how they’re avoided. I’m just weirdly fascinated by seeing the long chains of events that lead to things going wrong, and just as importantly, how to make things go less wrong

7. Horatio Hornblower - well, it has parts, it counts as a series, right? Also it has ships. And a protagonist who starts as an awkward noodle.

8. …I’m also going to have to say Genial daneben. Source of so many in-jokes between my sister and me, and many a New Year‘s Eve has been spent playing the game (except making it a freeform guess thing like the show instead of giving three choices)
