Date Gone Wrong

Intro / Part 2

Louis was having a good time. Ideally he should have told Harry right away that he was not the one Harry was looking for. He couldn't bring himself to do that because a part of him wasn't ready to miss out on the chance of getting to know someone like that. Harry was beautiful. With green eyes, curly hair that reached the shoulder and an awkward laugh. Even conversations were easier. He was lowkey glad that Harry hadn't talked much to the actual "William" because clearly Harry didn't know much about the guy and that gave Louis free reign to talk about random stuff.

What kept bugging his mind was the thought of Harry's actual date. Harry hadn't checked his phone after sitting but eventually he would and then he'd know because there would be some sort of explanation as to why the person did not come, or worse, if Harry texted that person and found out that he was on a date with someone else.

Eventually he let go of his thoughts because if getting to know Harry was short lived, he might as well, make full use of it.

Harry might have been unsure about the whole blind dating process but at that moment, sitting across a pretty human, he mentally thanked Niall. He was looking for a blue sweater the moment he arrived and the breath was knocked out of hid chest the moment his eyes landed on Louis. He was a bit confused by Louis' initial behaviour though, as if he did not expect Harry to show up. Or did he think Harry was catfishing? Cute.

It had only been an hour but Harry was smitten. Smitten by Louis' ability to talk about random things, his blue eyes, his accent, that brown fringe across his forehead. Harry had totally expected to be bored, but Louis was anything but boring. Harry had even managed to hold hands with Louis. He first asked Louis if he could hold his hand and his heart squeezed in his chest when Louis giggled and said yes.

He was about to ask Louis if he needed a refill when someone approached their table.

"Um, Harry?" the guy asked Harry.

"Yes? Do I know you?"

"Harry I'm William, your blind date?"

"What?" Harry eyes widened and his neck turned so quickly in Louis' direction that he might have given himself a whiplash.

"Yeah," William replied, looking at Louis and at Harry's hand holding Louis', face darkening. "I texted you I'd be late but I had no idea, you'd arranged to meet someone else at the same time. God I'm embarrassed."

"Wait I didn't know--" Harry started.

"You could have just texted me you know. Then I wouldn't be standing here making a fool out of myself. But, nevermind, I'll leave now. Enjoy your date." He shot one pointed glance at Louis and left.

Harry stayed frozen to his seat, staring after William. A wave of guilt washed over Louis. He'd ruined someone's date by lying. And now Harry knew. He'd been unable to speak up in front of William. What would he have said anyway? Hi your name matches my middle name so I stole your date. Yeah pftttt. Yet , he felt obliged now to say something.

"Um, Harry? Shouldn't you follow him and clear the confusion?"

Harry turned to look at him. "Did you clear the confusion?"

Louis' face went red with embarrassment. "I- I'm sorry- I-"

And Harry burst out laughing.

"Oh my god, who are you?"

"I'm sorry."

"That's a weird name." Harry laughed again.

"Louis William Tomlinson."

"That's why you didn't deny right away. Oh god. But you did realise what was happening right? Yet you decided to keep shut."

"Well, I thought you'd been stood up and I didn't want to break it to you."

"So you played along, what a gentleman!" Harry exclaimed, teasing Louis and booping his nose.

Louis had to fight back a smile at Harry's action.

"I didn't mean to get in the way of your date trust me." Louis pouted.

"Relax," Harry interrupted, easing back into his chair, "it's not like William and I had bonded. I mean my friends set us up to meet and I probably sent him like 5 texts to decide the location."

"That's still 5 more than the number of texts I've gotten."

Harry huffed a laugh at that.

"Louis William Tomlinson, is that your way of asking for my number?"

"I mean would you mind?"

"Give me your phone."

Louis smiled shyly and handed his phone to Harry. "So will you text William?"

"I don't really know. Do you want me to?" Harry asked, mischief evident in his eyes.

"I should not have a say in this." Louis kept his gaze averted.

"You're right. But to be honest, I didn't even want to come here, but when I saw you and mistook you for him, I didn't wanna leave. And it was the first date. I doubt William would want to see me after."

"This wasn't that big of a deal to be honest," Louis mused.

"Really?" Harry raised an eyebrow. "Ofcourse you'd think that."

"Sorry."

"You're lucky you're cute."

Louis was blushing furiously now.

"So Louis," Harry continued "here's my number and this time maybe I'll send you more than 5 texts. Is that okay?"

"I'd like that," Louis looked up, smiling.

Harry's phone buzzed. Mum's text.

"Uh oh, um Louis something came up, I'll have to leave, do you mind?"

"No no absolutely not, my friend," he said pointing to the table next to them and froze midway. Harry wasn't supposed to know about Zayn eavesdropping.

Zayn on the other hand looked like a startled deer caught in red light.

"Uh hi," he said, putting his phone down.

Harry doubled over in laughter. "Good lord, you've been here all this time, watching and listening to everything. Even you didn't interrupt us."

"Well," Louis chimed in, "he encouraged me to keep quiet."

"Why are you forgetting the part where I told you to spill the truth but you couldn't because he's too beautiful," Zayn air quoted the last word, earning himself a good natured punch in the ribs from Louis.

"Hi I'm Zayn," he extended his hand for Harry.

Harry shook his hand and said, "thanks for encouraging him then. This has been great."

"I could see that," Zayn teases causing both Harry and Louis to blush.

"Um so yeah, I have to leave now," Harry said, getting up. "Louis I hope you'll use the number and I guess I'll see you guys around."

"Bye Harry," Zayn said and Louis waved in his direction.

"Ohmygod," Louis slumped on the chair once Harry left, "what was that?"

"You just gatecrashed a date and made it your own. That's what happened," Zayn said patting Louis' back.

"I'm going to hell for this."

"To be honest, you sealed that deal when you changed my dad's contact name on my phone to my boyfriend's."

Louis laughed at the memory, "You're right."

"Don't think too much, because a) Harry genuinely seemed to have had a good time b) the real date situation has been handled and c) you have his number now."

"Yes," Louis replied with a satisfied smile, "but Zayn, please let's head home now. I've been here for hours my back hurts."

"Bitch mine too, especially from all the live tweeting."

"You're joking," Louis said, shocked.

"Oh you'll see," Zayn smiled and tugged Louis towards the exit.

I hope Louis will gain loyal respectful real fans one day. And people will know the difference between a real relationship and a ship which I always find it stupid to compare Louis and Eleanor relationship with other ships. When people say don't make everything about the ships, this time make it's about Louis. Well, E is his life partner and will always be a part of him and vice versa.

‘Ships’ are fictional - like lilo/nouis/narry/lirry/etc. They are not real, people who ship them are aware they’re not real and are ok with that. Larry used to be a ship before it became a full blown conspiracy, harmful to everyone involved. Elounor isn’t a ‘ship’ - it’s a very real relationship that actually exists. It’s incompatible with fictional ‘ships’ or harmful conspiracies. It’s not about some ‘fandom war’ about how ‘mine ship vs your ship’ - it’s about reality vs conspiracy.

And those ‘people  who say don't make everything about the ships’ (most times either larries or rads) are ignoring the fact that it’s Louis himself that “makes everything about the ships” - it’s Louis who talks about Eleanor, it’s Louis who praises Eleanor, it’s Louis who writes songs about her and confirmes those songs are about her, it’s Louis who gets tattoos dedicated to her. No one ‘makes everything about the ships’ except for larries themselves. We are just repeating Louis’ own words.
