"Come on, you'll be fine! Once they warm up to you, they'll love you." You said as Eddie helped you into the van.
Eddie walked around the other side and hopped into the driver's seat. "Yeah, if they warm up to me." He sighed, and you clicked your tongue.
"Eddie, my parents are very nice people." You replied.
Eddie stared out the window for a minute before turning to look at you. "I don't know why I'm worried about this. It shouldn't matter what I'm wearing or who I am, right?" He looked over at you with a smile.
You nodded slowly, not sure how to respond. "Well... The only thing that matters is that we love each other, and they better see that." You felt yourself blush slightly, and Eddie nodded.
"Alright, don't want to be late." He spoke, turning the key and starting the van.
~~~
Standing in front of the mahogany door, Eddie helped your hand tightly in his, his fingers intertwined with yours. You could feel your heart beating against your ribcage as he knocked, albeit hesitantly.
The door opened quickly, revealing your mother who immediately squealed and pulled you into her arms. "My baby! Oh, I missed you!" She hugged you tight, almost squeezing the breath out of you.
You squeaked in surprise, but she let go, turning to Eddie.
"You must be Eddie." She spoke with a small smile and Eddie nodded, wiping his sweaty free hand on his jeans before raising it up to your mother.
"It's nice to meet you, Mrs. L/N." He greeted her politely.
Your mother just shook her head, moving past his hand to pull the very nervous young man into a bone-crushing hug.
"We've heard so much about you, dear. Y/N just never shuts up about you." She gushed as your face flushed in embarrassment.
"Mom..." You lightly scolded, only for her to wave her hand at you.
"What? That's what you get from hiding my future son-in-law from me." She spoke and you groaned, slapping your forehead.
"Son-in-law?" Eddie mumbled, but before he could think further, your mother pulled the two of you into the house and shut the door.
"FRAAAAANK, your daughter and her boyfriend are here!" She called, before an older man in his late forties walked in from the living room, adjusting his reading glasses as he glanced from you to Eddie, and back to you.
"Y/N, why haven't you visited your dear old dad? When was the last time you were home, anyway?" He asked as he approached you, giving you a quick kiss on the cheek.
"Uhhh, I don't really remember." You shrugged, looking away sheepishly.
"Okay, well, you'll visit us again. You know how he loves hearing stories of possible grandkids." Your mother spoke and you laughed lightly, shaking your head.
Was her plan to embarrass you?
"And what makes you think I'd ever visit again after today's fiasco?" You teased, and your mother gave you a look.
"Oh no, missy. You're grounded until we can figure out how to fix this mess." She spoke firmly, and Eddie blinked in shock.
"Ma'am, I don't think-" He began, but your mother cut him off.
"We're joking, darling. Don't worry!" She spoke with a bright smile as you laughed.
Eddie cleared his throat as he brought his hand up to shake your father's. "Well, it's nice to meet you, sir." He spoke kindly.
"It's good to finally meet you, Eddie. And great she brought you over." Frank smiled, patting both your shoulders.
"So, are y'all hungry?" Your mother asked, motioning towards where the dining room was at.
"Definitely." You spoke up, and your mother's smile widened.
"Really?! Good! I just made my famous stew!" She exclaimed, before leading you all to the dining room.
~~~
Your mother brought another spoonful of her stew to her mouth, pausing before speaking, "So, Eddie. Tell us about yourself." She spoke, before taking a bite of potato, broth, and other veggies.
Eddie coughed a bit before clearing his throat. "Uh... Well, I like Metallica and I'm in a band... That's pretty much it." He spoke, trying to avoid eye contact with anyone.
"A band, huh? Y/N's father was one in his day." Your mother spoke with a smirk, and Eddie's eyes widened slightly, turning to your dad.
"Really?" He muttered, glancing up at you.
Your mother sighed dreamily, “I can still remember the hair he had back then. Reminds me of the Beatles.”
You nodded, as your father began to speak, "I was in a small band in my youth. We played at the local clubs, and we had quite a few fans. I even got invited to perform on the radio show." He spoke, and your eyes grew wide.
"That's so metal..." Eddie breathed out, and you couldn't help but smile.
"And, it seems falling for guitar players runs in the family." Your mother spoke, her teasing gaze staring into your own.
"Uhh, so, how about dessert?" You chuckled, earning another look from your mother as she stood from her seat and headed into the kitchen.
You turned to Eddie, who was now blushing and looking down at his glass of water.
~~~
"It was lovely meeting you, Eddie! You're welcome back anytime!" Your mother called from the door as you walked hand and hand back to his van.
"Thank you, Mrs. L/N!" He called back with a wave, before opening your door for you and helping you in.
Once Eddie got into the driver's seat, you waved to your parents before Eddie began pulling out of the driveway.
"See? Wasn't so bad." You speak up as Eddie turns on the radio, turning it down into a soft murmur.
"No, it wasn't bad at all." He spoke, and you leaned forward, kissing him on the lips.
"See, I told you!" You teased, and Eddie smiled before returning the kiss.
"Yeah, you did."
