I just rewatched a bunch of Supercorp fanvids and now my brain is rotting so hard from dormant feelings rising. I forgot how much they owned my heart. How did they inadvertently create the most heart-shattering, beautiful, romantic storyline featuring actors with the most palpable on screen chemistry I- 😭

"Everything okay?" Lena asked as she came out of Kara's bathroom, finding Alex and Kara with their arms crossed and worried looks on their faces. As soon as she was in front of them, she saw Alex's face harden and Kara's eyes became accusatory.
"Have you been working with Kryptonite?" Alex asked with a cold voice, the same one Lena knows is reserved for criminals.
"I- what's happening?" She chuckled, confused and feeling exposed. One moment she had been hanging out with Kara, some romantic vibes between them, and then the next moment she was being questioned by the Director of the DEO.
"Answer the question, Lena." Kara said barely above a whisper.
"Have you been working with Kryptonite, Lena?" Alex asked again.
"I have." She frowned and Alex rolled her eyes while Kara looked down. "But it's not-"
"You said you wouldn't make any more kryptonite, Lena. You said you'd let Kara know if you made more." Alex said, obviously angry.
"how do you know I'm-"
"We caught the radiation signature in your apartment." Alex said and Kara simply stood behind her, unable to look at Lena.
"That's impossible, I've been working on it in my lab, and I've taken all the-"
"How could you?" Kara finally broke her silence, looking up at her with that self righteous disappointment that was so typical of Supergirl.
"Kara, I'd never do anything to hurt you-" Lena frowned.
"You made kryptonite again." Kara said with bitterness, a heavy tear dripping down her cheek.
"And you just jump to the conclusion that it was to hurt you." Lena scoffed, a bitter smile on her face. "I'm a Luthor, right? You've never trusted me and never will." She whispered and walked to get her coat before her own tears made an appearance.
"You can't leave. Where are you going?" Alex said with an authoritarian voice.
"You're welcome to arrest me if that's what you think you should do, Director Danvers." Lena said simply, walking out the door of Kara's apartment.
Years of effort pulling her walls down gone in an instant, all of her alarms and protections coming back to wrap her heart in barbwire to protect it, even if it was already bleeding.
"Director Danvers." A DEO agent told Alex, bringing a heavy looking briefcase to her while she worked with Brainy and Kara in her lab. "A messenger brought this for you, it's from Miss Luthor."
"Did Lena bring it?" Alex asked worriedly, looking over at her sister.
"No, ma'am."
"Thank you." She said and the agent walked away.
"Can you see inside?" Brainy asked and Kara shook her head.
"It's lined with lead."
"Kara, you should step back in case this is-"
"she wouldn't, Alex."
"You said the same about her making kryptonite." She mumbled and moved the briefcase away from Kara. She opened it slowly and looked at the contents confused.
"What's in there?" Kara asked curiously.
"it's-"
"it's brilliant." Brainy said, grabbing the tiny red box that wasn't bigger than a bar of soap and looking at it curiously.
"What is it?" Kara asked and walked closer to inspect the artifact too.
"It's- Lena has perfected the nano suit I created for you by teaching the nano technology how to filter Kryptonite. This should be sufficient in case of mild exposure." Brainy smiled, fascinated by Lena's work. "This is basically her combining the armor suit with the one we made, making it the best of both worlds, so to speak."
"Oh..." Kara sighed.
"Oh... Shit." Alex whispered sadly, watching something on the computer.
"what is that?"
"her lab logs." She said sadly, showing her the screen.
"Lab Log for a personal project. Video for my personal reference only, and for DEO registration as Kryptonite will be used. Day 1 on the project to develop filtering nanotechnology for Supergirl. I will create a suit that will keep Supergirl safe from kryptonite exposure, eliminating the limited mobility on the armor suit." Lena's voice said and the camera footage showed her arranging different kinds of chemicals and other stuff she'd need. "Step one will be creating supercharged kryptonite to ensure the maximum protection of the suit. A safe decontamination protocol has been established in case of emergency." Lena explained and started the process.
"This is dated... This was the week after you were attacked by kryptonite at the museum."
"She wanted to protect me." Kara whispered, feeling her heart breaking in her chest. She had been caught by surprise and barely made it out alive thanks to J'onn and Nia, but she had to spend two days under the sun lamps to recover from the horrible beating she took. Lena stayed by her side every minute.
"What's in that box, Alex?" Brainy asked and pointed at the larger box in the briefcase.
"The kryptonite Lena made... It's a lead box." She said, swallowing hard.
"I have to fix this." Kara shook her head and flew out of the DEO as fast as she could, making her way straight to LCorp.
Lena was sitting on her white couch, looking defeated and exhausted with a drink in her hand. She didn't notice Kara at first, but when she did her face hardened, becoming a perfect angry mask made of marble to protect her.
"Lena."
"Please leave." She said with a cold voice loaded with emotion.
"We need to-"
"I'm moving back to Metropolis." She said coldly. "I made a mistake by moving here. The first of many mistakes, in fact." She said bitterly. "I will send all the devices and prototypes I've created for Supergirl and the rest of your super friends to the DEO for you to dispose of them accordingly. You'll realize that some of them are finished and others aren't, but what you do with the technology is up to you." She said and Kara stepped closer.
"Lena, let me talk to you-"
"There's nothing to talk about, Kara. You have never trusted me, and it's obvious that the shadow of my name and my brother will always be present between us. I can save the world by your side ten times, and yet there will always be a black stain on the white sheet: my family." She rationalized, walking to pour herself another drink.
"I trust you with my life, Lena. You know it."
"As soon as you learned about the kryptonite you assumed I wanted to hurt you." She scoffed. "That's not trust, it's the opposite." She said looking coldly into her eyes. "I'll always wake that sentiment of suspicion on you, Kara. It will always be there with you and your sister, and even your friends-"
"they're your friends too! They're-"
"they have always been your friends. I was just one more who got to tag along." She said and cursed herself for allowing a tear to escape.
"Lena, you know I love-" Kara whispered, stepping close to Lena and wiping the tear away with her thumb.
"don't you dare finish that." Lena warned her coldly with a quivering lip, the raw hurt in her voice making Kara realize how badly she hurt her. "Please go and stop hurting me." She whispered. "I'll disappear from your life and everything will go back to normal." She said, full on crying now. Kara always knew how to unlock her emotions.
"I don't want you to disappear from my life." She sighed, cupping Lena's face like it was a fragile thing. "You are my life."
"Miss Luthor, the helicopter is ready to take you to the airport." Lena's assistant said from the door, a little shocked to find Supergirl wiping her boss' tears.
"I have to go." Lena said, closing her eyes for two seconds to enjoy the warmth that Kara's hands brought to her face, the same warmth she brought to her life.
"Stay." Kara asked her softly. "Stay with me."
"Goodbye, Kara." She whispered and walked way using every ounce of strength in her body. She sobbed in the elevator ride and tried to look put together enough while getting on the helicopter, ignoring the red cape waving in the wind while Kara watched the love of her life leave her behind.

Powergirl Should Die - Final
Supergirl. Powergirl. Kara Danvers x BabyDanvers!Reader, Alex Danvers x BabyDanvers!Reader, Lena Luthor, J'onn J'onnz, Winn Schott.
Word Count: 2750.
Part 1. Part 2.
Powergirl is gone.
"Boss." You nod at J'onn when you fly into the DEO. Alex hears your voice and makes her way towards the both of you. "Tag me in tonight. I've got a good night of rest. I'm ready to patrol the hell out of this town."
"I'm sorry, Powergirl." J'onn, whose voice displays no emotion at all, says. "I'm taking you out of this case. You're too close to the cause."
"What? Of course I'm too close, it's about me!” You speak a little too loud and notice all the other agents pretending they can't hear you. "You can't get me out of the case of someone trying to kill me."
"Are they? Trying to kill you?" You hear Winn's voice on J’onn’s back and you turn your head to look at him. You must be making some face because he looks scared when he sees you. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't butt in."
"Yeah, you shouldn't, computer guy."
"Hey!" Alex defends him and you roll your eyes.
"I just –" Winn continues even after seeing you scowl. "They haven't done anything. You have been getting those messages for a couple of weeks now. You should think someone would have tried something. Did anyone try anything?"
"No."
"Besides," Alex chimes in again. "It's not wise getting yourself in danger for it. Wait around, when we catch them you can do the interrogation yourself."
"Is this for real?" You look at the three agents ganging up on you, looking dead serious about it. You shake your head in disbelief. "This whole place is a joke!"
You go to L Corp for lunch. You show up with a bag of Belly Burgers and a whole speech for Lena. The thing is, Lena truly helped you sleep well the night before. With her you felt safe and yourself. Even with her finding out that you are Powergirl, you could let yourself forget about it, at least while you were in her arms. But still you can't help but feel like you took advantage of her.
You decide to save this whole conversation until after you both finish eating.
"Hey," Lena slides in a little closer, reaching for your hand on top of the couch. "You were quiet all throughout lunch. You know you can trust me with your secret, right?"
"Oh, yeah. I'm not worried about that." You give her a truthful smile and she slides in even closer, grabbing your hand and holding it between hers.
"What are you worried about, then? Let me in." Lena requests so softly, there's no way you can deny her. "I know the writing is keeping you awake," She makes sure. "but what else is keeping you closed off?"
"Lena." Her name comes out as a whine, and as result she kisses your temple while squeezing your hand in comfort. "What if the writing is coming from someone I know?"
She furrows her brows, but doesn't press you further. "Then you can do something about it, right? You're Powergirl! You're the strongest person I know!"
"Really?" She agrees with her head. You don't buy it. "What about Supergirl?"
"I mean, don't you and Kara have the same powers? Why would she be stronger?" Lena seems sincere, like she truly doesn't think that Kara is better than you in any way, including being a superhero.
"Yeah, I guess." You don't wanna tell her that you think your own sister is writing those things. Lena is Kara's best friend too. You can't poison that unless you know for sure. And the only way you can know for sure is if you confront your sister. "I guess I do have to do something about it."
You're not exactly thrilled to have this conversation with Kara, but it seems to be overdue.
"Hey," Lena whispers a bit closer. "I'm here for whatever you need. Always."
"I thought you would be mad that I didn't tell you I was Powergirl."
"I was. It lasted half a second." Lena says and you smile widely at her.
"I'm sorry about yesterday. I was so sleep deprived I just made you uncomfortable with the whole nonsense about you getting me naked. I mean, obviously you wouldn't wanna kiss–"
Lena interrupts you, with her lips crashing into yours. You first widen your eyes in surprise, but when her hand makes way to your neck, you're quick to close your eyes and melt into the kiss.
"I wasn't gonna kiss you yesterday." She whispers, breaking the kiss, and you slowly open your eyes. Your faces are so close you see every single color in Lena's iris. She's so damn beautiful. "You were so tired, it was like taking advantage of a drunk girl."
"I would've let you, though." You joke and she laughs before kissing you again. "Thank you, darling. You have no idea how much you've helped me last night. It was the first night in months I haven't had a single nightmare."
"Glad to be at service." Lena kisses your cheek, and you move your hands out of hers to snuggle her into your embrace. "Same time tonight?"
"Can't wait." You punctuate it with kisses on her face, and finally breathe deep. At least a good thing since you can't patrol the city tonight. Although, you don't think there will be any writing done. Not after you confront Kara about it.
It's after work when you fly through Kara's apartment window, unceremoniously.
"Oh hey!" Kara opens her arms excitedly when she sees you and you give her a forced smile. "You were reading my mind, I was about to call you and ask you to come over."
You make your way inside, but not before your sister pulls you in for a hug and a kiss on the top of your head.
"Why?" You untangle yourself making way to her couch. She furrows her brows when notices that you don't hug her back, but you're already throwing yourself on the couch, supersuit and all.
"Alex told me J'onn decided to take you off the case." You raise your head at her when she comes closer, a clear scowl. "I'm sorry, mini me. I promise I'll do whatever it takes to make the writing stop, ok?" Kara kneels in front of you, reaches for a loose strand of hair, and puts it behind your ear. "It will be alright."
"Will it?" You glare at her, crossing your arms in front of your chest.
"It will." Kara gives you a trying smile. "In the meantime, maybe you can talk to Lena about having more sleepovers, so you can continue sleeping well. I'm sure she won't mind."
"Why are you so worried about how well I sleep?"
"Because!" You hear her heart picking up the pace, so you wait for the rest, sure you must be closing in on her real reasons. "Sleep is important, and I know you were having a hard time with it. Nightmares ain't fun." You raise an eyebrow at her, she licks her lips. "And you said you were having them for a while. How-how long again?"
"Months."
"Right. Months with no good sleep, having to work and be a superhero. It takes a toll."
"You know what else takes a toll on people?" Kara raises an eyebrow in question. "Lying."
"Um, I guess. Have you? Been lying?"
"Me?" You can't believe she won't admit it. And she thinks you're the one lying. What the hell. "Oh no, I'm not the liar. You are."
"What?" Kara's mouth opens and closes a few times, like she can't believe she got caught. Like she didn't think you would find out. "What are you even talking about?"
And then, just like that, you snap. Anger starts boiling your blood, and you get up in a swift movement, ready to unleash hell. She stumbles back in surprise. It takes her a few seconds to get up too.
"You made me a superhero. Forced me into this life." You spit out greeted teeth. "Have you ever thought I could want something else? Have you ever thought of me as something other than a mini you?"
"What?"
"You got me to work for you and Alex! So you could both control my every step! And now what? Now you don't want me to be Powergirl anymore?"
"What?" She repeats, looking so surprised, you don't know how she can fake it so well. When did your sister become such a good actress? "What do you mean? Of course I do!"
"Then why have you been writing on fucking billboards and buildings that Powergirl should die?" Kara's eyes widen so much, you can't help but to roll your own. "Oh Rao, stop playing dumb already! I saw you, ok?"
"You saw me?"
"Red cape, blonde hair flying in the wind. All of it."
Kara furrows her eyebrows, "Really?" You agree with your head. "Red cape like this one?" She grabs your cape, pulling you to the direction of the mirror. "Blonde hair like that one?" She points at your reflection.
"Oh yeah, that makes sense." You can't stop the irony thick in your voice. "Yeah, sure. I'm the one writing that I should die."
"You are." Kara holds your face between her hands. "You haven't been having nightmares, Y/N. What you think you're dreaming, it's really happening. And the red cape you saw was yours."
"No."
"It's not the first time, either. You used to have them in Krypton too. Used to go around doing things you wouldn't remember and blame them on me."
"You're lying." You push Kara away from you so strongly, you're amazed she doesn't fall. "Just admit you did it! Why won't you?"
"Because I did! Our whole lives I would take the blame for everything you did while you were sleepwalking. With mother and father, Eliza, even with Alex. Gosh, Alex is still mad at me for destroying her chances to go to Europe when you were the one that did it!"
"No, you did it! You – You exploded Alex's stuff with your heat vision and Eliza thought you were feeling left out, I saw your blonde hair!" You stop yourself, walking backwards until your legs hit the couch again and you fall in it, wordless.
"You hate being Powergirl so you want her dead." Kara whispers lightly not to startle you. "I can't take the blame for this, because it won't stop it. You're the one that has to stop this now." She clears her throat to make sure you're still listening. "Kid, I can protect you from all the monsters and villains and planet explosions, but I can't protect you from yourself."
Your mind is screaming at you. Short-circuiting being overflowed with memories. She is right. Oh no, Kara is right. It was you all along.
When Kal was born you were jealous of the attention he was getting, so you stole his baby blanket and hid under Kara's bed.
You lost your spy beacon, so aunt Astra could only communicate with Kara afterwards. But you blamed Kara for having stolen yours and everyone believed you.
Alex said she wouldn't be back from college that year. Instead, she was going to Europe for the summer. You got mad and sad, you missed your sister so much and was so anxious to see her, yet she wasn't coming home. So you did it. You exploded Alex's side of the room and said Kara did it.
And Kara took the blame. She took the blame for you again and again. She would have people yelling at her, mad at her, but she wouldn't accuse you.
Oh my God, you just blamed your sister for wanting you dead when she was only trying to protect you from yourself again.
"Kara," You raise your tear-soaked face at her. "I swear I didn't know. I – I didn't do it on purpose."
"I know, baby." She whispers, one lonely tear rolling down her cheeks.
"No, I – Kara, I –" You can't talk. Can't breathe. It's all too much. "I'm sorry." You fall on your kneecaps, head hanging low. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'll tell Alex, I'll call Eliza and tell her too, I wish I could tell mother and father, I wish I –"
Kara kneels in front of you, pulls your face to her chest and hugs your head. "You're ok. It's ok." She kisses the crown of your head. "It's what I'm here for. I'm here to protect you. I'm here to prevent you from getting hurt. I would've taken the blame for this too, if I could. But if I did, the writing would never stop."
"You took the blame for everything." You cry harder. "Oh Rao, I've been hating you for weeks. But it was all my fault. And you," You look up to her, though you can't see right with all of the tears blurring your view. "You knew. I was treating you so badly, and you knew exactly why."
Kara shrugs. She doesn't care that you've been blaming her. Why doesn't she care?
"I told you," She answers the question right out of your mind. "I will always protect you. And I won't stop just because you're being mean to me. I'm your big sister and I love you."
You hold her tight, crying non stop, unable to tell her how much you love her too. But she knows. She knows by the way you're sobbing and giving her a bone-crushing hug at the same time.
"It's time to let Powergirl go, baby." She cleans your tears, and helps you up. "Come on, let's let her go."
"But – But you need my help, you need me to be her." You whine, even though you are making it easier for Kara to detach the cape from your back.
"No." Kara speaks softly and kisses your temple, soothing. "I don't need Powergirl. I need my sister. I need you, Y/N."
She helps you out of your stupid gloves and boots, while you cry. You don't know why you're crying. You're happy, you’re finally free of this gigantic responsibility that was placed on your back. You’re happy you won’t have to lie anymore. And yet, you cry.
“Come on, it’s over now.” Kara shows up in front of you with one of her baggy hoodie and you’re out of skin tight suit soon after. And so you can finally breathe again.
You watch Kara carefully folding your suit and placing them in a box. She gives it to you so you can decide what to do with it. You don’t take the box from her hands.
“You keep it. In case of an emergency.”
Kara looks at the box in her hands. “I’ll not ask you to put on this suit again, I promise.”
And you believe her. But you also know that if any of your sisters or Lena are in danger, no one will even have to ask you.
“You take it to the DEO then. I’m sure they’ll keep it safe.” You hug Kara tight, one last tear falling from your eye. “Thank you for everything. Thank you for keeping me safe and always protecting me. El Mayarah."
"El Mayarah, mini you. Mini sis? Minnie Mouse!" Kara says and scrunches her nose at it.
"Yikes."
"I'll think of something else." Kara guarantees, kissing the top of your head. And you make your way to the door. "Wait," She says before you leave. "You're not wearing pants."
"Oh," You look at the large hoodie reaching mid thighs. "It's fine, I don't think Lena would mind."
"I knew it!" Kara says excitedly, and then she furrows her brows right after. "Can't let you leave the house with no pants, though. Especially now that I know where you're going."
"Fineeee." You pretend to be annoyed, but you're not really. It wasn't a good idea leaving the house without pants. Kara gives you matching sweatpants and kisses your head one more time before you leave.
"I'm happy for you and Lena, little one." Then she smiles brightly, eyes lightning up as well. "I think I got it this time."
"You've got it."
Powergirl is gone. Not dead. But definitely gone. And that lifts a huge weight from your shoulders and you're completely sure you won't have nightmares and won't sleepwalk again. At least not for that reason.
But hey, who are you to skip a sleepover date with your beautiful girlfriend, right?

The first 2 building was just a simple 1-story building that was completely abandoned, so it wouldn't take long to search. Brainy and Nia checked the building, but it was empty there were a few box here and there, but that’s it, the second building was the same. Kara and j’onn Already checked the first floor and there was nothing. Getting to the last floor, both sister were starting to lose hope. They look around the last floor, but they didn't find you or the alien. “Brainy, are you sure those were the only location you found.” Kara asked desperately. “Unfortunately, yes, that’s all I have for now.” Kara sighed and looked at j’onn with tears in her eyes. “We will never find them in time.” J'onn took Kara in his harm.” Yes, we will ok well find them in time.”
In a last ditch attempt, Kara used her super hearing. She was extremely surprised to hear a really faint but present heart beat, pulling away she concentrated on the sound. “What wrong?” He asked. "I think I hear something, It's coming from downstairs.” She followed the sound, it leads her to a wall on the first floor. “Hidden door, maybe.” Kara said, and J’onn shrugged. They looked around trying to find something like a button, a lever, anything that could reveal a secret door. Looking closely, Kara found a spot that wasn’t the exact shade of the wall, she pressed on it and the wall opened.
Behind the door, Kara saw the most horrifying sigh she could ever see. There was you on the floor covered in blood and bruises, your eyes were closed and if it wasn’t for the slight movement of your chest anyone would've thought you were dead. The was towering over you, he grabbed you by the neck and lifted you in the air. “Are you dead yet or do I need to continue?” He chuckled, he squeezed your neck more and with your eyes still close you weakly grabbed at he’s wrist. Kara was frozen there in shock, she couldn’t move, she just looked at you.
Your POV:
You just wanted to die at this point, your entire body was hurting, you were so weak you couldn’t move nor could you scream in pain when he hit you or stabbed you with his sharp claws.
You knew he was there, you could feel his presence. You heard the door open, so you thought he was actually gone, but you quickly realized he wasn’t when he wrapped his hand around your neck and squeezed, cutting your flow of oxygen, you weakly tried to loosen his grip on your throat, but it was obviously a failed attempt.
Suddenly you were dropped onto the floor and you groaned at the impact. You heard some struggling then there were hands-on you, you whimpered and flinch in pain because the hand were touching one of your wound, you tried to move away from what you think was Vexok hands.
 General POV:
“Get away from her!” J’onn scream, snapping Kara out of her trance. The Alien dropped you to the floor, right as he did, j’onn attacked him whilst Kara ran toward you. She placed her hand on your side to see how badly you were hurt, She heard you whimpered and try to move away from her, not knowing she was hurting you she pressed down harder to keep you from moving. A weak cry left your lips and that when she took her hand away, you shook like a leaf and try to move away again. “Sweetheart, it’s me, it’s Kara, it’s your big sister. You’re going to be ok. I know it hurt, I’m sorry. Could you open your eyes for me please?” Kara said, tears brimming her eyes at the sight of you like this, you slowly opened your eyes, even if your sight was blurred a little you recognized your sister’s bright blue eyes they were filled with worry. You cried in relief and happiness at the sight of her.
Behind her, j’onn made quick work of knocking the alien down. “Come on, we need to bring them both to the D.E.O.” J’onn said, Kara nodded and picked you up. You let out another weak cry of pain, which broke Kara’s heart even more. “I’m sorry, Honey, but I have to bring you to the D.E.O.” She said softly.

you played Kara’s mentee/‘adopted’ sister/daughter/protégé
Your character wasn’t exactly a Kryptonian or even someone with powers…just a teen Kara saw in trouble one day and decided to take you in
when you first got your callback you were nervous. it had been an indicator that you had done well but you weren’t sure if you could pull it off again.
When you got there, you realized it was practically a surprise chemistry read
they told you that you would be acting out one of the more emotional scenes with Melissa herself since you’d be acting with her the most (if you got the part).
Needless to say, the crew was shocked at how well the two of you got on. You read each other's emotions perfectly and although you had different acting styles, you were able to mesh them together to make a scene that had a nice flow
A week or so later, you got the call that you had indeed gotten the part and that you would begin coming to location to shoot the following week.
Right after hanging up that call, you received a text from an unknown number. You hesitantly opened it, only to see that it was Melissa congratulating you and inviting you out to lunch with the rest of the cast, so “your first day wouldn’t be so awkward”--her words
That day at lunch had solidified your relationship and from then on, the two of you were attached at the hip.
Once you began to break out of your shell more, everyone else could see how connected the two of you were. Melissa would bring you water and snacks throughout the day and you would go to her for advice or comfort.
And of course, everyone took it as a chance to crack jokes, referring to you as the mother/daughter duo and making fun of Melissa for being so motherly towards you.
Fans could see how deeply you guys’ chemistry ran and it was the second largest talking point of the show (supercorp being first obviously)
It was brought up, mainly jokingly, in interviews. They would reference the bond and Mel always responded something along the lines of “yes, this is my child.”
It’s definitely safe to say that Melissa was a mother figure to you on and outside of the show and you couldn’t be more happy about it

TSG season is upon us, so I've been rereading a few things. Today I finished The Making of May by Gwyneth Rees. Maybe not Great Literature, but a lot more readable than its cover (which is more suitable for a younger reading level) would suggest.
It's not straightforwardly a retelling of The Secret Garden, but it is in conversation with that story and the heroine references it multiple times. I was trying to figure out why this worked for me, while Ann of Sunflower Lane's constant references to Anne of Green Gables came to grate on my nerves. And I think it's because instead of piggybacking on a classic and trying to fully parallel it, The Making of May *interacts* with The Secret Garden but isn't trying to replicate it on every level.
May hasn't even read TSG; her fascination with the story comes from a VHS she owns (this book was published in 2006, when VCRs were not as uncommon as they are now) of what is very obviously the 1975 BBC miniseries. She identifies a lot with Mary, although she acknowledges significant differences in their backgrounds. They are both orphans, but May points out that Mary has grown up unloved while she herself has been raised by her much-older half-brother and -sister, who are a bit in over their heads as parental substitutes but genuinely care about May and are trying their best. Note that May highlights Mary's emotional neglect rather than traditional grief; her understanding of the story comes from an adaptation that closely follows the original text, and she's even actively opposed to watching a "more modern" version (implied to be the 1993 film) that she doesn't feel is an authentic rendering of her comfort character.
Because that's how May sees Mary of the 1975 miniseries--a friend who understands her life circumstances in a way that others around her don't seem to. She rewatches the tape as often as she can, usually when she's in a low mood, and the story informs how she sees the world. It's a kind of escapism for her. She does this to a lesser extent with other films she finds interesting too, but TSG 1975 is her favorite.
Like Mary, she is given the opportunity to restore a walled garden, which she insists on calling a secret garden. But this isn't accurate; everyone on the estate knows about the garden and knows she's working in it. She is joined in this by the son of the estate's owner, and her first thought is that this is just like Mary's working with male friends. But that's where the overt comparisons stop. Alex is very different from Dickon or Colin, and his arc, while broadly similar to Colin's in that he must heal a broken relationship with his father and realize his extent of his own abilities, is significantly different. He and May investigate mysterious goings-on in the house--a locked room and a housekeeper disappearing there with a tray--which initially has a very TSG feel, but the mystery's solution is no gothic secret but a perfectly normal, mundane thing. May even expects the forbidding housekeeper to resemble Mrs. Danvers after having seen Rebecca; this isn't very grounded in reality either. Even the actual central secret of the novel has nothing to do with locked gardens or hidden rooms; it's the fact that May's brother fudged his resumé to get a gardening job on the estate.
Like Mary, May restores a garden, makes friends, plays an instrumental role in repairing a father-son relationship, and experiences physical and emotional growth. But unlike Mary, her arc involves having to learn to distinguish fiction from reality and grow past projecting onto a fictional character to cope. It's not that her engagement with TSG is an inherently bad thing, but the extent to which her relationship with it has gone is maladaptive. She has come to take the story so seriously that she can't see it as a story anymore; when she tries to show the miniseries to Alex and he finds it laughably low-budget and dated (harsh! but not inaccurate), she is as offended by his criticism as if he had spoken against her. Because the story is such a personal thing to her--and I really can't blame her, I feel the same way whenever someone is dismissive of something I care about--that her identity is bound up in it to an unhealthy extent. She needs the balance that comes with engaging with the real world and real people and getting out of her own head, and her adventures at the estate help her do just that. In some ways, the themes veer more into Northanger Abbey than The Secret Garden!
May by the end hasn't abandoned her love of the miniseries, but now instead of fixating on Mary as she is at the beginning of the story, she can see Mary's completed arc and understand the story as finished, not as perpetually ongoing in her own world. May is finally given a copy of The Secret Garden to read, but she isn't sure if she's ready to read it yet, or even if she needs to--she's about to embark on new adventures of her own, adventures that will be completely separate from Mary's.
So ultimately the book is less about recreating The Secret Garden in another setting and more about how the heroine relates to an adaptation of the story--not even the actual book, an adaptation, a constructed interpretation of the book. Which is a surprisingly fresh take and, honestly, more interesting in some ways than a straightforward adaptation because of its meta perspective. It's a story about someone's response to someone's response of a story. And in that regard, it has a lot in common with Noel Streatfeild's The Painted Garden, which concerns the filming of an adaptation of The Secret Garden in late 1940s Hollywood and features broad parallels to the original story while commenting on how the change of medium and the vision of the adapters alters the narrative and characters.
There's probably an essay to be had on the concept of how these two books interact not only with each other but with The Secret Garden and film/TV adaptations of it, both real and fictional, but for now this is long enough and I'm not writing it.

S4/Avengers 3 and 4 analysis - P1
Obviously, spoilers from Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame.
Improtant: This analysis is also from a byler pov. The next ones are going to be based on these characters, the parallels between them in the show and the movies and predictions to S5.
The characters and their parallels
William Byers and Steve Rogers
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both characters are kind and selfless. Both were victim of bullying and aways seemed as weak, small for his age and not manly enough. That only changed for Steve when he got his "powers". Will is still a target for bullying, but what used to be based on homophobia, turned into him being called a freak, "zombie boy". Those two characters are known for putting the others feelings before themselves. While Steve put his own well being in danger to save his best friend Bucky, lying to Tony about his parents, Will put his own feelings aside, lying to save the relationship between his best friend and his sister. While Steve throw himself in the airplane into the water knowing he was going to die, Will asked them to close the gate knowing he could die too.
Steve fell in love with Peggy Carter and he never moved on. She is the love of his life, but they couldn't be together because Steve "died" and when he came back, a long time had passed, she married someone else. After Avengers Endgame, Steve actually married Peggy and he finally found his happyness with her. William Byers is in love with Mike Wheeler for a long time. He is the love of his life but they can't be together because Mike found someone else when he was kidnapped. He tried to move on when he moved to Lenora, but he could. He thinks that they will never be together... Who knows?
El/ Karol Danvers/Tony Stark
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
El and Karol Danvers are very similar. Both characters don't know about their past, they think they are working for the good guys but find out that they are being used because of their powers. Karol Danvers was the first avenger when everyone thought it was Steve. El was the first Vecna's victim, while everyone thought it was Will. It all started with them. Their arcs is about finding independence and fighting for what they believe and not what people tell them they should. Speaking of "it all started with them", El also parallels Tony Stark. While Tony tried to create Ultron to save the world for them and ended up creating a monster (Ultron), El tried to stop One for killing more people and ended up creating a monster (Vecna). Both tried to live a normal life, but could never move on from their past. While El frustrated Vecna's plans since S1 without knowing it was him, Tony also frustrated Thanos' plans before endgame, to the point that Thanos recognized him. They never lost before. El now blames herself for not being able to save Max the same way Tony blamed himself for Peter. Tony did everything in his power to bring Peter back and he did it. Let's wait for El.
Vecna/Thanos
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These two don't parallel to much, but we can find some. It was them all along. While Vecna was in control of the mindflayer possessing Will, the Demogorgon who killed Barb, was opening portals into Hawkins and Billy trying to kill everyone to get El's powers, Thanos was there from the first movie, working behind other villains to get the infinite stones. While Thanos used his "family", Vecna used the UD's creatures. Infinity War is Thanos' movie. Season 4 is Vecna's. Both nearly lost, nearly had been killed. But they won. At the end of Season 4 and at the end of Infinity War, both are missing. Thanos was found at the beginning of Avengers Endgame, but just to prove there was nothing they could do, they lost for real. It took them 5 years to find a way to finally defeat him. Vecna? Well, maybe it will take a while... Maybe 2 years?
***Please tell what do you think about this, I'm going to post the next part soon.

series masterlist
Tumblr media
It’s two whole days before you can motivate yourself to make it to work. Monday morning rolls around with surprisingly warm weather, as if the sun itself is beckoning you out of the house.
Your mom, though elated, had kept it to herself when you told her about Carol leaving. She’d even come over to cook you some food, taking care of you for that weekend. You didn’t appreciate her meddlesome nature but you were glad she was around to take care of you. You made it a point to invite her over for dinner one day.
The town was small enough that you could walk almost everywhere and that’s what you did. But there was something different about today. People were greeting you with sad smiles, even the ones who usually didn’t speak to you.
The moment you walk into the little diner you work at, Cam, the older woman you worked for and the owner of the restaurant, came running at you, pulling you into a hug. She was a tiny woman, barley five feet and ninety pounds but God, that woman could crush you between her bony arms.
“Oh honey, why did you come in today? After what happened, I’d have let you take the week off,” she says as she pulls away and holds you at a distance so she can get a good look at you.
“What?”
“Don’t pretend with me, your mama told me everything,” she admonishes as she leads you further into the kitchen.
“Of course she did,” you say sarcastically, receiving a swift pinch on your arm.
“Don’t you dare take that tone with me young lady,” she warns, tilting her head towards the sink.
You roll your sleeves up to your elbows, washing and drying your hands before you tie the apron around yourself.
“Sorry ma’am,” you say glumly, getting a satisfied nod from her.
“You’re on the cash register today, easy work. Let me know if you wanna tap out,” she lets you know, making you sigh. You’re not looking for a fight. The morning starts with the usual rush, and much to your dismay, most of the patrons paying let you know that you’re better off without Carol anyway. You would’ve appreciated it any other day but honestly, the wound was still too fresh.
It’s around midmorning, once the rush has died down that a woman walks in, a tall man following her in tow. They look a little too alike, making you come to the conclusion that they’re probably siblings. From where you’re stood, you can see the man trying to hit on Brunn, not really receiving much reciprocation. The woman seems embarrassed by the antics of her brother. The diner is mostly empty so you pick up the cheesy Harlequin romance you were reading last night, finding it easy to slip back into the story. It was an old issue, one of your mom’s but still in a readable condition. The plot about an ex-con finding work at a ranch in Wyoming with a less than hospitable owner is a good escape. It’s shallow, the relationship lacking any true depth but it did the job of getting your mind off of things like the many others you devoured the past weekend.
You’re snapped out of it by someone clearing their throat. The woman from the table stands in front of you. Her long
“Hi, how can I help you?” you ask in your best customer service voice.
“I was wondering if you could tell me which pie you'd recommend. I’m looking for something that’s not too sweet,” she asks.
“All our pie’s are great but I’d personally recommend the pumpkin pie,” you suggest.
“Great, could you add it to my bill please? And add a thirty percent tip for the lovely waitress too, I can’t apologise enough for my brother,” she says sheepishly as she hands you the crisp bill.
“Sure. Are you guys new in town? I haven’t seen you before,” you ask, fetching her change.
“Yeah, I just bought the old florist shop on River. My brother and I just moved here from Seattle. We arrived only yesterday,” she says.
“Well, I’m Y/n and consider this your official welcome to town,” you say with a bright smile, a real one this time. You hold out your hand and she shakes it. Her hands are soft, manicured to perfection.
“I’m Wanda, that’s my brother Pietro,” she offers.
“It was great meeting you. I hope we see you back again soon,” you say with a smile, handing her back her change before packing the pie and handing it to her.
“Without a doubt,” she says, accepting the pie and the bill you hand her. She waves goodbye with her free hand, dragging her brother who seemed to be chatting Brunn’s ear off.
“Glad he’s gone,” she sighs as she walks towards the counter, taking a seat on one of the bar stools.
“His sister just left you a pretty hefty tip,” you wiggle your eyebrows at her, showing her your copy of the bill.
“Maybe they should visit often then,” she huffs with a laugh.
“Maybe,” you shrug.
“They just moved here from Seattle. They’re converting old Mrs Schmidt’s florist shop into a dance studio. Well, she’s the dancer. He is a professional twitch streamer which is just a fancy word for saying unemployed,” she tells you.
“Funny,” you say distractedly. You both get back to work and you mostly forget about Wanda until it’s time to head back home.
You realise there’s no one waiting for you at home so you might as well wander around town a bit. You stop by at the local grocery store, your town is so small that there isn’t really a Walmart or costco. There you run into Joe Wate, the ‘editor’, of Rose Briar’s very own newspaper, The Stars N’ Stripes (est. 1959). The one Carol used to work for. He’s surprised to see you there, that’s for sure, apparent in his mouth hanging wide open as he puts canned tomatoes into his shopping cart.
“Everything alright Mr. Wate?” you wonder out loud, prompting him to close his mouth and nod his head vehemently.
“Oh, yes, my dear. I’m just surprised to see you. I thought you’d have left with Carol,” he says her name with such disgust that it honestly shocks you.
“Yeah, we broke up,” you offer awkwardly, causing him to reach out and gently squeeze your shoulder.
“You’re better off without her. Can you believe she thought she was too good for the Stars N’ Stripes? Hah, we’re better off without her,” he boasts even though you and him both know that she was the best journalist he had on his small team of five. The sudden urge to defend her flares up inside you but you push it down.
“Yeah. Anyway, I should really get going. The grocery list isn’t gonna buy itself,” you say lamely, excusing yourself.
You finish your grocery shopping, mostly consisting of junk food. Once you’re done, you decide to walk around with your groceries in hand, like a goddamn idiot. You’re walking down River when you spot it. The old florist shop-now- dance studio. There still seems to be work going on but all things considered, the place looks pretty great. You find yourself stopping in front of the shop. Staring inside. You don’t realise you’ve been spotted until Wanda is walking towards you.
“We meet again,” she says, a soft smile gracing her lips.
“Oh, I’m sorry if I’m in the way of your work,” you bite your lip, heat rising to your cheeks in embarrassment.
“Don’t worry about it. I wanted to take a break anyway,” she shrugs and starts to walk, as you struggle to keep up with her with the heavy groceries in hand.
“Do you wanna get some coffee?” she wonders out loud and you nod absentmindedly. You’re distracted by a figure walking alongside the two of you on the other side of the street. The tall, stocky build is eerily familiar. The dark brown tresses are the same as they used to be when you were children. Could it be him? No, it can’t. You don’t believe he’ll be able to show his face around town after what he did. But when he turns his head just slightly, trying to catch a sly glimpse of you, the steely blue eyes give him away.
Dropping your groceries at the spot, you bolt across the street, his eyes finally meeting yours as they widen. You greet him with a punch, almost knocking him off balance. You clutch your fist that will definitely bruise tonight in your other hand before you spit out with the most venom you can muster.
“How dare you show up here again, dear brother?”

Imma tell you, the new Bucky story is as disturbing as it's good. I feel so horrible for the girl in the helicopter, she didn't deserve that :'(
I hope that they can save any other people who were caught in this web of screwed up fuckery.
I do wonder why he hasn't eaten her, tho... She's just been kept for some mysterious reason. Hm.
Totally random change of topic. I was reading an orc!Steve story from boxofbones earlier and Carol Danvers was in it too.
Made me think of what would happen if in one of your delicious mafia-esque stories the big bad boy has his eye on a lady who keeps rejecting his advances. He obviously doesn't let up, thinking she's playing hard to get. After all, no one denies him.
Plot twist tho. She's gay. *bursts out laughing* I'm sorry, but the idea that she keeps awkwardly rejecting him because she literally doesn't like men, but the guy is too dim to actually get it-
Even better plot twist if big bad boy's equally big and bad sister snatched the girl from right under his nose.
Tumblr media
I so love @boxofbonesfic and EVERYTHING they write. I remember Orc!Steve!!
The concept of the anti-hero's equally badass sister snatching his intended out right from under his nose is hilarious. I spent five minutes laughing just picturing his expression as they made out in front of him. I gotta do something with that...

Valentines with William Dey who, as much as he enjoys his journalism has taken an indefinite hiatus from it to work on a cookbook. So Danvers!Reader gets to taste test everything? Just cute baking bfs. Although Danvers!Reader stays back, he much prefers to watch the master at work. And then of course he and Kara and Alwx are fighting over the baked goods.
William Dey x Male!reader
Tumblr media
● 6 months ago William decided to venture out from his journalism career and explore the culinary world
● he was hard at work on his cookbook and the best part was that you got to taste test everything
● though no matter how perfect you told him every recipe was he always found things he needed to change for the final product
● your sisters Alex and Kara were literally always having dinner at your house to get free meals out of him
● "you know he's my boyfriend right? And not yours," You tell them as they sit down for the third dinner at your place that week
● Alex "you love cooking for us right William?"
● William "of course, Y/N's family is my family"
● Kara "see Y/N he doesn't have a problem with it!"
● this valentine's day you and your friends decided to have one big group party to celebrate the holiday
● obviously William would be doing the cooking
● and the night before you made tons of sweet treats and chocolate covered candies
● you help him with the tedious work in the kitchen like cutting vegetables and cleaning dishes but William was more than happy doing most of the work while you sat back and admired him
● he has you trying everything along the way
● your friends start to arrive and they snack on appetizers and sweets while William finishes the main courses
● Lena brought fancy wine and champagne to thank you and William for hosting
● Nia brought lots of flowers for everyone
● J'onn and Kelly are hanging up all the cute pictures Esme drew for the party
● and Alex and Kara are arguing over who ate the last of the heart shaped macarons
● (side note it wasn't either one of them it was actually Brainy but he knew better than to get involved with a Danvers argument especially one about food)
● the food is finally ready and you all sit around the holiday decorated table
● William "I couldn't ask for a better way to spend Valentine's day than with my incredible boyfriend and all my wonderful friends"
● you lean over and kiss him "I love you baby and i'm so proud of you for working on this cookbook"
● you all cheers to William and enjoy the amazing food he made
● "Happy Valentine's day everyone!"

My supergirl opinions, note that I've only watched 2 seasons+ and it's been a while (note, I do not remember character names.)
I love Kara Danvers really. Like she's the sweetest, dedicated, most hardworking. But everyone has their flaws. And she.... she has them.
She is a good person, likeable even, BUT. She is a trash friend. I'm sorry to say. But she csn be an absolute awful friend. Example with Lex Luther's sister. She believed that she did something? Idk, and went on questioning her because of her families reputation. Like, bruh. That is your friend who cares for you. Why??
This also applies to all her other friends to be honest. Ofcourse I don't remember much, but I'm pretty sure there was a point she was like not the best with her work friend who user to be in love with her. And this can go with relationships too...
Like for Jimmy Olsen? Did I get that right? Anyway yeah. With Jimmy Olsen. Like relationships obviously aren't her strong league, but yeah. And yeah they broke it off, and became friends? But.. uh. I'm pretty sure there was a point she was just straight up unsupportive and overprotective. COURSE the overprotectiveness is understandable, but it is his life, but it shows she CARES.
Yeah so that's it. I'll have more opinions and adjustments once I rewatch and actually finish this whole thing.

If you had a chance to write for cass cain, what would you write and what would you do with her character? :D
Wow that is a big question that frankly as many answers so I'm just gonna stick with one as to not have this go on forever. Answer under the cut cause this got long lol
I'd really just want to explore her drive that makes her want to be a hero. What motivates her? Why does wearing the symbol matter to her? Does she feel like she deserves it? Like those would be the types of questions I'd want to ask throughout my whole run.
I'd make her panromantic asexual. I'd find someone to cowrite or consult, but that is definitely a journey she'd go on. I always felt like romance and sex would be such unique experiences for her and intimacy for her would be more about kisses and touching and just being around the person more than sex, but I know not everyone agrees with that (and I'm not saying this cause she's Asian or cause I'm trying to woobify her cause Asians can't have sex or whatever. Just throwing that out there cause ppl seem to think that these days. This is specific for Cass not a comment on all Asian characters.)
I'd have her make a LOT more friends outside the batfam. Bring back Brenda from her OG Batgirl run. Bring back Christine from the League of Shadows arc. Let her meet other heroes like Kenan and Baixi, and the whole of the JLC cause seriously she should. Have her go on adventures with Connor, Emiko, and Rose (Damian shouldn't get all the fun with the cool assassin characters). Have her meet Vic Sage (I think he's alive again idk) and Richard Dragon and learn more about her mother's past so she can learn more about her heritage.
And yes I would do something with Shiva as well, though it wouldn't be them fighting (each other at least). I want them to build a respect for each other. Cass doesn't like that Shiva doesn't see the value of life in the way she does, and Shiva doesn't like that Cass is comfortable wearing a Bat symbol and living by such strict morals, but they agree the other won't change and instead just agree to not get in the other's way. But if they ever need the other, they are there for each other as well. (Hopefully this could lead to solo Shiva stories and just fucking stop making everything she does about Cass, please.)
Though I wouldn't ignore the batfam. I've said before I think Cass and Steph, if both are gonna be Batgirl, should be used like how Marvel used Jessica Drew and Carol Danvers. They have separate books, but are basically supporting characters in each others books. That way neither characters story is compromised for the other, but they also aren't Batgirl2009 where one just has to disappear to make the other relevant. Remind ppl that Cass and Tim have a great sibling dynamic. Continue to build on the Cass/Duke sibling dynamic. Bring back Harper into her life ON PANEL. Refocus on her and Kate, they made up off panel, but I'd show the tension still exist and show them working through that. Obviously rebuild her and Babs MOTHER/DAUGHTER dynamic. None of this "older sister" crap. And of course build on her and Bruce and strongly hint that she wants to be Batman.
The types of stories I'd do would have a very wide range. I'd do everything from street level detective stories to cosmic space journeys to fighting tournaments to one shot romance date nights to team ups to whatever else I think of. I want Cass to be given as much range as a character as everyone else (which is something I feel is really missing for her right now). And she'd go up against all types of villains as well. I'm not gonna list a ton of villains cause that'd take forever, but classic and originals for sure.
In the end what drives her as a hero is more than her guilt, but her want to do good. Simple as that. She is the type of character that sees injustice or bad people doing bad and will step in to intervene. Her moral compass and compassion rivals Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman and that would be on full display. Why does she wear the symbol? Again simply because she believes in what it is meant too represent not only to Gotham but the universe. It strikes fear in the criminals and brings hope to the innocent. Whether she feels she deserves it is the question she might never answer, but she'll work forever until she gets there.
That's just a small idea of what I'd do and it's not a perfect idea, nor is it the only idea of a way to do a Cass run. Just one of the ways I'd do it.
Thanks for the question

Where do we go now?
Final part.
Supergirl, Baby Danvers, Lena Luthor x Reader, Kara Danvers x B!D, Alex Danvers x B!D
Word Count: 3500.
Part 1.
They are working hard to bring Kara back. You’ll give them that. They’ve been running around the Tower tirelessly for days. You try and help here and there, but you’re not usually much of a help and with all of this, you’re basically a worthless sack of nothing.
Which is a hard thing to feel, especially in this situation. Knowing that you can’t do anything to bring your sister back, to save her from the nightmare she must be living, the nightmare you all have been living without her around.
“You’re not useless.” It’s what therapist Kelly tells you to repeat to yourself like a mantra. But it’s easy for her to say when she just got a new suit and a cool hero name.
So you stay in the Tower, walking around the place like a damn ghost. Seeing Kara everywhere, but at the same time nowhere around.
Alex finally takes pity on you and tells you to go help out in the lab, because Brainy could use some extra pair of hands, and you have those and are eager to be at service. But it’s not Brainy you find, once you make your way there.
Lena is working with something huge, you’re not even sure what it is, when your eyes meet through the lenses of the device.
And it’s like you’re back there, in front of her apartment, months ago. Mouth agape and unable to move. Shocked and terrified; life looking as horrible as it could get. A chain of apologies wanting to leave your mouth in a rush. Sorry for lying, sorry for breaking your heart, sorry for deceiving your trust, sorry for loving you, sorry, sorry, sorry…
Lena raises her head, looking at you. Face etched with sorrow. Doe-eyed, and so, so soft. She doesn’t even have to say it, because her face says it all. But the thing is, there’s too much to be said, to be sorted, to be apologized for. You know it, and Lena obviously knows it too.
“Oh.” It’s what leaves your mouth, when you make sense of why you’re here. To help Brainy, even though he is nowhere to be found. “Wrong lab, I guess.”
You take a step back, without breaking eye contact and Lena raises her hand to stop you. But nothing comes out of her mouth. She just looks like she wants to say something, and you don’t know what it is that is stopping her.
So you keep walking backwards, ready to leave, “Wait. Y/N, please, stay.”
“I should be helping Brainy with some sort of –”
Lena points at the device, and you agree with your head slowly, convinced. So you make your way closer.
“What’s that?”
"Phantom trapper. I feel like we might need it once we go out there or something.” She looks down, toying with the machine again. Then looks up to you. “I could use your help.”
“I’m not good at –” you point at what she’s doing, but your mouth keeps going anyway. "Anything."
“Actually I think –” She licks her lips. Moment stretching out so thin between the two of you, anyone would be able to cut the tension with a knife. “you would be perfect for this.”
It’s funny how all of a sudden she looks exactly like your Lena. Like that Lena who asked you a million questions and in so little time got to know all of you. She looks like the Lena you would tell all your secrets, except how desperately much you love her. No, that one you would just leave between the lines.
But she’s not your Lena, is she? She never once was yours and you got a broken heart to show for that.
You blink your thoughts away, giving her a sad smile. “Ok, so, um, what do I do?”
She explains what she’s doing, merging a DEO protogun and L Corp’s portal energy, and you pretend you’re following, though you have basically no idea what she’s talking about. But at least you know how to use a screwdriver and that’s what she needs you to do, while she does the actual science thing behind it.
“Um, ah.” Lena tries. She’s been trying to talk to you for the longest time but keeps stopping herself when you raise your big eyes at her. “How – How are you?”
You blink at her. Waiting for the rest. How does she think you are, when your sister is missing and she hates the shit out of you?
“Well, Lena, I’ve been better.” It’s mumbled out of your mouth, without second thought, face going back to the machine in front of you, so you don’t have to look at her while admitting. “There was a time where my sister was home and my best friend didn’t hate me.”
“She doesn’t – I don’t hate you.” She says, voice strangled inside her chest, as you finish what has been asked of you.
You haven’t seen Lena in months since her (valid) outburst with you. Since she said she hates you, and called you a lying monster. And no matter how much time has passed and how many things have happened ever since, that’s how you still feel around her. You feel like a monster.
You stare at each other for a few seconds. The moment is tension-filled, electrified, all wrong. Everything feels wrong and you don’t know if things will ever feel right.
“I’m not gonna say that I’ve never hated you.” Lena sits on the chair next to yours, and breathes out. “Because at that moment, I did. I hated you for breaking my heart. It took me more time than it should’ve to realize exactly why I was so mad at you, specifically.”
You swallow deep. Eyes filled with tears, heart squeezed in anticipation.
You weren’t always the most honest person, you admit. Little white lies, always trying to make people feel better, to make yourself feel better. But you never once told Lena a single lie, except the ones involving Supergirl. And it’s fair that she felt betrayed by that, but it hurts you even more to know that it was out of your control all along.
“I felt betrayed by your sister because she was my best friend and lied to me, and sure, I was mad at all of our friends for lying to me too. But you – Y/N, the reason why I was so mad at you is because it felt like heartbreak. Felt like I was being lied to by my person. I know we were never – “ She bites her tongue and you nod.
“We were never.” You agree.
Were never, will never. All the same now.
Lena’s hand makes way to your face, but then something shifts inside her, just like that. And you can see it in her eyes that something changed, you just don’t know what. So her hand never really reaches you, though you can still feel the ghost touch and the burning sensation of almost feeling her again.
“And we will get your sister back. I promise.”
You can’t hold the tear to fall, but you’re quick to clean it.
“I just miss her.”
As to an explanation to why you’re crying, though it isn’t the only reason and you guess she’ll never know all of the other ones that involve her.
“I miss her too.” Lena confesses, swallows deep right after, searching your face for anger, because she thinks it’s her fault your sister is gone. But you’re sure that even if she never went along with Lex’s plans, he would’ve found a way to do what he did.
So you just nod at her, understanding. Tears falling silently, regardless of the fact that you get it. It doesn’t stop hurting just because she’s hurting too.
“Hey,” she finally pulls you closer, your head resting on her chest like it just belongs there. “You can cry, my love.”
And it’s so unfair that she can just use the pet name again after so many months with dead silence from her end and make your heart almost burst inside you from happiness, either way.
“Lena.” It’s a whine out of your mouth, and you wonder if she gets all that is inside it, if she had the faintest idea of what you’re trying to convey with that only. But you don’t know, because you keep crying and crying, face buried in the crook of her neck, while she runs her fingers through your hair, gently.
“I know, little —“ she leaves it like that, but you look at her with pleading eyes, and she smiles, understanding you perfectly. “You’re fine, little one. It’s going to be alright, I promise.”
So of course you believe her. Even though she is a liar, and you’re a liar, and all that you two have done so far is lie about your feelings and keep secrets from each other.
You let go of her, wiping the tears from your face, and force a sad little smile. “Thanks, Lena.” You tap on the device in front of you. “Ok, I’ve exhausted my abilities on this, so I’ll go check on Brainy.”
“Yeah, ok. Sure, yeah.” Lena says, looking like she doesn’t want to let you go. But she does. Because not letting you leave would involve being honest and that’s something none of you can do, apparently.
When you wake up the next day. Wait, actually to wake up, you would need to have fallen asleep, which you haven’t done an inch of. While you repeated the whole interaction you had with Lena the day before.
My love. Her love. We were never. Might never.
But when you do get out of the bed, in a jump scare from Alex yelling at you that some phantoms went loose and you have to get out from the Tower immediately, you still meet them and hear bits of their meeting.
“I may already have a fix for that, I couldn’t sleep last night so —“ Lena starts and you two share a look, because she wants you to know you’re the reason she wasn’t able to. And you think she can see it on your face that you haven’t either.
The rest of the meeting is lost with you inside your thoughts. You only come back from it when Kelly tells you she is giving you a ride home, so they know you’re safe.
You don’t want to be home alone, worried sick about what’s happening to them. So you go back to Kara’s apartment, because even though she is not there, some of her still is.
And it’s unsurprisingly unsettling to be inside Kara’s apartment with no idea whether she is ever coming back. No idea of what’s happening out there with your family, friends, and Lena. So you walk around, thoughts consuming all your energy and what’s left of your sanity.
When Alex picks you up days later, they have a way to get Kara’s location and are going into the phantom zone to find her. She tries to convince you not to go along, telling you it’s dangerous and they all might get lost there, for God knows how long. But if everyone is in the phantom zone, then what the hell would you be doing on Earth alone?
“Are you sure you want to come with us? I know you want to be there when we rescue Kara, but stepping into a new dimension isn’t something you –” Alex rethinks her next words very carefully before adding, “signed up for.”
“Signed up for? Are you serious right now, Alexandra Danvers?” You give her a harsh look and she rolls her eyes at the use of her entire name. “Our sister is out there! So you either take me with you or I’ll find a way to go without you.”
So there’s no arguing, no matter how much she tries to.
“Alright, pack up, little rascal. We’re gonna save our sister!”
And afterwards, you think your sister is actually happy you’re there. Rescuing Kara without her little sister around would’ve felt wrong, no matter how protective of you she is.
So you stick around the back, while everyone takes position in the ship and gets ready to go follow Kara into the depths of the universe.
J’onn mentions that phantoms might try to get inside your minds, making you all very weak by showing you your worst fears. You think you’re currently living them, so you are probably safe with that, at least.
Then something goes wrong, Alex yells for you to follow Lena so you’re not alone and no matter how reluctant you are with being alone with her, in the middle of the chaos and you understanding shit about it, you just follow orders.
You step into the elevator with her, she nods apprehensively at you, somehow trying to ease your mind. When the elevator stops she murmurs, “stay behind me, ok?”
And then she’s just gone.
“Lena?” You ask, looking around. You couldn’t have missed her, she was just in front of you. How could she have disappeared? “LENA?”
She appears in front of you, a heavy coat you don’t remember she was wearing a few minutes ago.
“Y/N.” Your name is said with so much disdain it burns a hole through your heart and you flinch. “What?” Her long finger goes to your face, under your chin, and she raises your head so you can look her directly in the eye, “you thought I could love you?”
“What —“
“Oh no,” her eyes burning green into yours. “Oh you poor thing,” she cleans a tear that leaves your eye. “You actually thought I felt something for you, didn’t you? What part of I hate you got lost in that little dumb head of yours?”
“You’re being mean.” It’s what you can say after swallowing the lump on your throat.
“No, you stupid little girl. You’re weak, and immature. I guess that’s why you fooled yourself. I couldn’t even love Kara, the mightiest of heroes. What chance did you have?” Lena’s hands tight around your face, holding it so strongly it hurts your jaw. “When will you finally understand that I do not, cannot, will not love you.”
What? That sounds exactly like something you’ve thought before.
You only realize that when her hand tightens around your neck and you start losing your breath.
“You’re not —“ you’re lifted from the floor by the neck. Gasping desperately for air, while trying to kick and push the image from your mind. “my Lena!”
You get up from the chair you were on, look around to see yourself still in the command room.
“J’onn?” Alex asks, voice small filled with fear.
And you look around to see everyone waking up together from some sort of trance.
“This is real. You are free of the phantom’s powers. You did it. You all did it.”
But there’s no time to celebrate this win. Not when you’re almost there and everyone starts running around and Lena just pulls up a fucking yellow sunlight blast to recharge Kara’s powers and so on, and before you even realize what just happened,
“Kara?”
Your sister rushes to the door, inside Alex’s embrace.
She’s here! Kara is actually here!
“Brainy get us out of here.” You hear J’onn’s voice and breathe out knowing you are all safe and heading back home.
Kara’s eyes lock into yours, on the other side of the room. “Get in here, little one.”
And your heart almost stops when you hear her voice, but you run into her embrace and breathe her in. Kara is here. God, she is here. This is all you could have asked for.
Kara is found. Saved. Rescued. Home.
Well, she goes to her home, not yours, by the way.
“When did you move in?” Kara asks when you and Alex take her home.
“I — I didn’t.”
She looks around. Her apartment should look empty, lifeless, dusty. But it doesn’t. It looks lived. You left some clothes by the couch, and there’s food on the counter, dishes on the sink, the bedsheets are messy. You look up to her, an embarrassed look on your face.
But Kara pulls you in and kisses the crown of your head. “I hope you’re staying while I’m here, as well. I could use your company.”
“Yeah, sure.”
And you should be happy. You should be thrilled. Because Kara has escaped the inescapable, and Lena is back on the team and around, completely forgiven, returned to her rightful role of being Kara’s best friend.
But something is still off whenever you see her. There’s still things over your heads. Things you shouldn’t have said, things you should have, secrets kept from each other, and feelings, oh, the feelings!
So when you can finally come to life, you just don’t. You still walk around the Tower like a ghost, like something’s missing though everything is already here. Broken and blue, hiding in the background, hoping for someone to notice you, but also praying that no one does.
“I thought I saw you around.” You hear Lena’s voice behind your back, and your heart still beats fast in anticipation. She sits next to you on the floor. “You ok?”
“Yeah, I’m – Sure.” You agree with a forced smile, and she gives you a soft one in return.
“You’ve been hiding.” She says, sure. And there’s no way you can deny it when you have been hiding and you know she has noticed. “So, I’m sorry, but I don’t believe you’re actually ok.”
You bite the inside of your mouth. Holding the tears and the words inside.
“Kara is back.” Lena points out and you agree with your head. “And I am –”
“You are –?”
“Here.” Lena scootches closer. Rests her head on your shoulder, and takes a deep breath there. Her breath is hot on your neck, giving you goosebumps. “I’m here. By your side. And I never should have left.”
“But you did. Because I lied, because I’m a lying mons –” The word is cut short when her lips touch your neck, soft and sweet.
“You’re not.” Lena whispers next to your ear. Warming up not just the place, but your entire body. “I’ve missed you.”
You close your eyes hard, trying to hold back all that you’re feeling. All the emotions that seem to be trying to get out of your control.
“You said –”
“Some mean things when I was blinded by anger.” Lena finally raises her head, searching for your eyes and encouraging you to do the same. “I’m sorry. I should’ve led with that.”
“I’m sorry too.” You try, because you have tried to apologize before and that didn’t go well.
“I know. I know. And we can spend our whole lives apologizing for what we did back then, or we can just let it go. Move forward. Be honest this time around.” She pleads gently. And you agree with your head because she is right. What good can come from revisiting all the mean things she said to you? All the lies you’ve told her about your sister’s real identity? When she is here, and knows all that and still chooses to stick around.
“I’ll go first.” Lena whispers again, while her hands envelop yours. It’s sweaty and shaking, so you know she is nervous. “I know I said we were never.” You look down on your tangled up hands, then back at her eyes. “But I wanted to. I –” She takes a deep breath before confessing. “I want to.”
“When Kara was just gone, just like that –” She swallows the tears, but you can’t hold yours back. You never could. “I just kept thinking how I never told her what she meant to me. And then I thought of you, and how I didn’t want a single day to go by without me telling you how I truly feel about you.” Lena cleans your tears, and her touch is so good, so real, you lean into it without a second thought. “I’ve been in love with you for years now.”
“I’ve been in love with you for years.” You whisper back, small and under your breath, but so desperately honest you’re sure she can tell.
Lena pulls your face closer, kissing your tears, then your eyes, your forehead, temple, cheek.
“Lena.” In a plead whisper and this time you know she understands all that you mean by chanting her name alone.
“I’m here.” She promises, another kiss on your cheek to clean your tear. “And I’m never leaving you again.”
It’s you that cut the distance between your mouths. A soaring kiss you’ve been meaning to share with her for the longest time. Tasting her lips as you’ve always needed to do. Easing her mind like you should’ve done in months, years, íons ago.
“Where do we go now?”
“Now,” Lena punctuates with a peck on your lips. “Now we move forward.”

My Top 5 Femslash Kara Ships
Obviously, karamel is OTP and always will be. However, I headcanon Kara as bi and enjoy reading fics for her femslash ships (with the exception of supercrap), so I thought it would be fun to rank them :)
5. Superdreamer ("You have me.")
Tumblr media
Just cause I've read some cute fics of them and I like the dynamic <3
4. Superlance ("Yeah. It's kinda hot...")
Tumblr media
Imagine if Sara hooked up with a different Danvers sister *-*
3. Superlane ("Hell, I want to date her.")
Tumblr media
That line, man. That line ^_^
2. Superbat ("I don't want you to get hurt.")
Tumblr media
I love their chemistry, especially the contrast with Kate being kind of a pessimist and Kara being such a ray of sunshine *-* It's an awesome relationship dynamic imo
SpaceGirls ("We're going to save your sister. Together.")
Tumblr media
Okay, this is definitely my second-place Supergirl OTP. Their ship name is amazing, their fics are amazing, their dynamic is amazing, and the potential for a poly ship with Mon-El is just *-*
