Indie successors are better than the games they "copy", and I'm not kidding.
Undertale's better than Earthbound, Freedom Planet's better than a lot of 2D Sonic games, Palworld's better than Pokémon, Tunic and Oceanhorn pretty much NEED to exist since traditional 2D Zelda just doesn't exist anymore (Echoes of Wisdom isn't "traditional"), Duskfade and Genokids need to exist since Kingdom Hearts 4 won't be out for a long long time, Bug Fables forced Nintendo to realize people actually like Thousand Year Door, Shovelknight is more relevant than Ducktales ever will be, Spark the Electric Jester is the Sonic Adventure 3 we've been begging and begging for, AdventureQuest Worlds and AdventureQuest 3D were there for me when I couldn't afford WOW (and they didn't fall off like WOW did either), etc.
We need more games made by actual gamers who know what gamers want. Not out of touch old boomers who bow down and worship their executives and shareholders.

As long as they don't have to fight over the SAME REALM, I think these two could be buddies! At least, I'd like them to be... hahahaha! xD
I liked Miraak back then, too. But not as much as Mesmeroth. The golden antlers sold me, they just have a bit more class than ... tentacles.

Have you ever been the ONLY fan and fan-artist for a franchise?
Yeah, I can't believe I am all alone in the fandom sphere of
Oceanhorn, including the games Monster of Uncharted Seas and Knights of the Lost Realm (and Chronos Dungeon)
These games have sold over one million copies each and are available now on PS4/PS5/Xbox/AppleArcade/Android.
They are stylized adventure games akin to Zelda, of which there are WAY too few out there. They have a great universe (fantasy, magic, gods and ROBOTS), great characters and an intriguing storyline throughout all! (Not to mention an incredibly awesome "bad guy" ;-) Definitely worth looking into!
Tumblr media
I have a dedicated blog for them, too:
I don't understand how I have only 2 followers and 0 (ZERO!) interactions on these posts. It is like the world doesn't know these games exist!
But here is a funny fact: the world DOES know about Miraak. I bet YOU have heard of Miraak. Would you like to know which posts of mine have at least SOME interaction? Hahahaha, yeah, those with Miraak in it. xD
Tumblr media
I am NOT crying for likes or reblogs ... I am just so flabbergasted and devastated that there is apparently no one who has heard of the games to begin with.
I just don't understand.
Why? LOOK AT THEM!
Tumblr media
*sigh* anyway, if you need 30+ hours to spend in a world full of magic, technology, gods, fish- and birdpeople, jungles, beaches and big cities, two dudes about to destroy the world and a young couple (to-be) caught in-between trying to save the planet then go and play Oceanhorn!
And then join the fandom! xD

The Hero goes back to Tikarel to tell Neeti about all his adventure!
I completely fall in love with this game!
The game is simple and beautiful in its way.
I enjoyed the music and the story.
Tho it needs a bit of work with MC interaction with other characters.
But overall the game is lovely

I finished Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm tonight! It was certainly fun to play, but I'd hesitate to call it good. It's a mediocre Zelda-like RPG collectathon with a silent nameless protagonist and some characters who needed a bit more... character. The writing left some things to be desired, honestly I could tell there was a good story there it just wasn't told very well. The voice acting was good, but with little to no voice direction it doesn't work as well as it should. The gameplay certainly worked, but it took some getting used to get it to work well (also the abilities you unlock as the game goes on make it flow MUCH better). Also of note, I always check to see if it's possible to Platinum/100% a game in the first go, and if it is I make sure to go for it; I was able to do so in this game! But it's also very short, something like 20 hours to 100% or maybe 10 or less to speed through. Would I recommend it? Yeah, if you're not looking for much! I don't even remember anything about the first game, it didn't seem to relate so you'd be fine playing it on its own, too!

Nintendo fans think that games similar to Nintendo games are a "rip-off" or a "cheap copy". That's not how I see it. The way I see it is, Nintendo is just such an influential company that sometimes they can either create or redefine entire genres of games. Nintendo games lay down the blueprints and the foundation, and other games simply build upon it. Sure there are rare instances where you get straight-up plagiarism. But the majority of the time, these games managed to put new ideas into an old formula to spin it and create something new. EvoCreo is a more modernized take on Classic Pokemon that even improves upon the original idea in many ways. Palworld combined the best parts of Zelda, survival games, and monster taming games in general, not just Pokémon. Oceanhorn and Tunic bring back Classic Zelda since Nintendo's just doing BOTW type games now, and give the Classic Zelda a modern flare. And so many amazing platform games today have Mario to thank. These games didn't plagiarize Nintendo. These games simply built upon the blueprints Nintendo offered to the rest of the gaming world. And besides, Nintendo sometimes take pages from other game franchises books too, so it evens out. Instead of being angry that one game is similar to another game, we should be CELEBRATING it.
Fresh spins on old ideas to create something new is what the game industry NEEDS.
In the real world, when you cook a delicious dish, you must first take already-existing ingredients and mix them together.
Also lets be real, every idea ever has already been done.

Inter-dimensional crossover buddies! xD LOL
I apologise for the dragon flight image for it's shouting bromance all over! It's kinda cute, though. xDDD
Give them knowledge. No gods may interrupt in the pursuit of (forbidden) knowledge!
Mesmeroth is somehow a very chill enemy in this zelda-like world of magic but with a good junk of modern technology. His mask shows him the structure of the world, and guess what, it's the matrix! LOL Thus I ask YOU, is he really bad for seeing the truth and trying to free himself from being an AI in this fantasy world, take over and construct a matrix to his liking?

Yammering About OceanHorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm
You ever just find a game and go "Wow, indies are doing some cool shit"? This was my reaction when I learned that the top down Zeldalike Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas had a sequel. ...Well, prequel, story-wise.
But oh man, did they go hard on this sequel. Fully 3D, multiple vehicles, a fuckin gun? Looks like the 3D Zelda Nintendo doesn't want to make anymore.
And it... Kinda is?
There's some flaws. That cool ass hoverbike you get during one of the opening missions? It... Doesn't come back, despite there being massive sprawls of land in the part of the map called World of Arcadia. If you could maybe run endlessly it would cut down on time spent wandering it, but the game decided to have a stamina meter for some inexplicable reason. Hoverbike traversal still would've been cool, though.
Anyway, I'm jumping the gun. This is, as I said, your standard 3D Zeldalike, with a hub world packed with treasures and secrets, multiple dungeons with puzzles and boss fights, and subitems that unlock more of said treasures and dungeons. It also has an XP system, like the original Oceanhorn, which gives you reason to defeat enemies, and a challenge system that rewards specific tasks with more XP.
Overall, I had a fun time. But if I had to take a critic's eye to things, there were a few flaws, and I don't just mean the lack of More Hoverbike.
While I can't name them off the top of my head, I know for a fact there were some traversal puzzles that were... Inelegant. Like, I knew how to get where I needed to go, or do what I needed to do, but it honestly felt like I was cheesing the game to do exactly what it asked of me. Very strange.
I need to learn not to play Switch ports. This was a bit of a rough one. Usually I'm not a stickler for graphics or frame rate, so if I'm noticing frame drops and popin, you've got a problem. The character model style was also... A tad uncanny? But that's probably a me thing.
One thing I thought was interesting was the amount of lore. They really went deep into crafting this world, and putting a bunch of readables and such all over the place. Although... Sometimes your big reward for an optional puzzle is more lore, alongside upgrade items. Good for people into that sort of thing, I suppose.
That's another thing- The power shard system. I... Don't know how I feel about it. You can find them in several different chests around the world, and they power up your items and "spells" (spells are just... ammo types, in this game). Once I had collected enough of them, however, I realized you could mix and match them to power up different aspects of your items and spells.
Honestly, I kinda wish you could just superpower each item if you found enough shards? Kinda weird to eventually just have a few unused shards sitting in my inventory by endgame. That's just me though- I tend to enjoy earning the ability to steamroll enemies and using said ability liberally after earning it.
As I said, Oceanhorn 2 is overall a fun game, and I enjoyed my time with it. If you're itching for something more along the lines of your Wind Wakers and your Twilight Princesses, and enjoy the idea of "Link with an 18th century pistol", then I definitely recommend picking this up. ...On anything but Switch.

Tumblr media
Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm, like the previous game in the series, takes heavy inspiration from The Legend of Zelda series and was fairly well received when it launched on Apple Arcade in 2019.
Xbox Series X|S players will get to play this title beginning August 2nd. The Xbox version of the game will offer a 4K 60fps treatment and retail for $29.99.
