I love it when I'm reading a childrens book where the main character is a 12 year old boy and the second main character is an adult with a job and some relationships and I think "finally a book where they don't ship the main characters together just because they're opposite genders" and then you read the next books and they do a weird time travel plot where the adult is aged down to a 16 year old and the kid is aged up to a 18 year old just to have it be "not weird" when they kiss. Yeah I actually didn't love that part at all. It made me really uncomfortable
