Milkvans complaining about bylers not mentioning Finn’s response about about the monologue is so funny, as if it didn’t support byler endgame even more 🤣
Finn saying I think he knows she thinks all this, bc I think there’s a reason why he says it, is because she— she— he’s been waiting to say it for a long time and she’s been waiting for him to say it for a long time. I think it’s an interesting thought, having that reciprocated. Yeah I think so. I don’t… I don’t know. I would hope… idk… great question and thought tho…
Like he literally cuts himself off before implying that Mike knows how El feels and that she wanted him to say I love you for a while, which is the very reason why he said it in the first place, despite seasons of attempting to say it, stalling repeatedly, only to fail each time up until now when there was literally no option not to in his eyes…
How is that a milkvan win?…
Not only that, but he didn’t make it sound hopeful for their future either. It’s still up in the air according to him. He makes a point of just saying interesting question over and over, only to not actually come up with an answer…
The assumption for many viewers, specifically milkvans, is that everything is great for Mike and El right now bc the monologue fixed everything. If that’s the case why does Finn end that question on a sort of question mark with it still up in the air? Least of all when you’re dealing with a queer ship on the other end, with him making much more of an effort to imply that it will be addressed. It’ll pay off vs. idk?…
This is like the casts reaction to the monologue all over again. The interviewer asked about Mike and El’s future and Finn basically danced around it saying he’s looking forward to all of their endings and is mostly interested to know if Mike will stay in Hawkins, adding at the end that he hopes Mike and El you know, find… happiness.
He’s always giving answers that work both ways. Byler endgame still fits in with whatever he says, whether milkvans want to acknowledge that or not.
Otherwise there would be no reason for him to try so hard to be ambiguous about Mike and El’s feelings, as if it’s this big spoiler… unless what’s about to go down is something most the audience won’t expect…

----
Sinking a ship takes skill, intense planning, and strong tails. Or, if you're Robin and seven guppies, it takes incredible, unbridled rage and a worry that could kill a Kraken. A ship that should take half the day to sink only takes the group two hours, their tails bashing against the hull and claws ripping planks to let seawater surge inside. Dustin is particularly brutal, recruiting Lucas and Mike to help him use the same net that caught him and took Steve to drag the ship beneath the waves.
Between tending to Dustin's wounds, lying to the pod about why they're going to be away for a while, and actually tracking the damned thing, it took Robin and the guppies a few days to catch up to the ship. And as they scavenge the drowned wreckage, pushing past broken doors and through holes in the hull, it becomes increasingly clear that they're too late.
"Where could he be?!" Dustin shouts, his gills flaring and bubbles rising in an enraged pattern above him. He takes a spear and jabs it into a water-bloated plank. "If he's not here, that means he escaped, right? So why hasn't he found us yet?"
"Steve could have been taken by another ship," El points out, her head poking from behind a mast. She's gained a dagger with a jewel-encrusted hilt and is currently using her nails to dig the jewels out and drop them into a seaweed bag.
Robin frowns, swimmingly anxiously in circles. She's not the one that's good with guppies. That's Steve. If she's the fun caretaker that encourages them to play Scuttlefish with sharks, Steve is the one a tail's-length behind dragging them back to the pod before they can get hurt. He's the one who knows how to keep the guppies calm and healthy. Robin is the one who keeps them energetic and chaotic.
"He was definitely here," Will says, swimming out from a cabin on the ship. He stops in front of Robin and holds his hands out, letting her see the dull, blood-stained scales sitting in his palms.
With a shaking hand, Robin takes the scales and turns them over, hoping they're somehow not Steve's. But he's her partner. Robin could recognize him by the flick of his tail alone. So, of course, she knows they're Steve's scales at a glance.
She turns, her tail creating a small current that brushes over the guppies and forces them to look at her. "If he's not on this one," she says, "then we'll just keep sinking ships until we find him."
"Let's start with the other ship," Erica says.
"The other ship?" Robin asks.
Erica nods, pointing in the direction they'd just come from. "A few leagues before we found this one, I saw another one that was sailing in the other direction. Maybe they crossed paths."
For a brief moment, Robin wonders how she missed the other ship. But then she remembers how she's been caught between her own worries and keeping the guppies from spiraling, and she gives herself a break. "Yeah," she says, nodding as she closes her fingers over the scales. The edges cut into her palms but don't draw blood. "Let's go track down that ship. But don't keep something like that from me next time."
The guppies all nod in agreement, and Robin looks at the wreckage around them. She's half-tempted to let the guppies loot the rest of the ship, but she knows they're all aching to find Steve already. So, Robin herds them away from the sunken ship in the direction Erica pointed and hopes Steve can hold on for just a little longer.

Excerpt from "The Lovelorn Fool's Guide to Merfolk Courtship"
Song Types
There are several song types that merfolk are likely to use in their lifetime. While the human ear cannot distinguish the intricacies of the songs, it can tell the major categories apart.
As newly-born guppies, they know only how to vocalize wordless sounds based on their needs. These sounds are referred to as Guppy Songs. These songs are generally lacking in any real melody or rhythm. They are rough and unskilled, but many caretakers consider them precious.
Pod songs are shared tunes and melodies among the pod to communicate big news. When hearing a pod song from a lone merperson, it will sound incomplete. Pod songs usually require at least one other merperson to support or respond to the initial measures, which creates a complete and satisfying loop.
Individual songs are varied and unique, as the name suggests. They cover a range of emotions that simply can't be communicated through regular speech or bubble patterns (to learn more about bubble patterns, please see Part I: The Basics). Among these songs, the most important to know is the courting song, which can actually be multiple songs using the same opening measures and melodies with slightly different tones.
Now that you know the most basic kind of songs, we can move to harmonizing. Truthfully, a human's ability to harmonize with a merperson is nearly impossible. However, it can be done with an instrument, which can reach ranges the human voice cannot. So, if you don't know how to play one, I'd suggest learning. Harmonizing is a key step in the courtship process, after all.
----
Steve shrieks as Eddie spins him around, the sound high and grating, and clings tighter to Eddie's neck. His tailfin slaps Eddie behind his knee, hard enough to make him falter and slip on the rain-soaked deck. He falls on his ass, Steve safely in his lap, and laughs. The charms in his hair knock against each other, and Steve idly reaches up to brush his finger against one. "What was that for?" Eddie asks, the words slightly breathless.
"You surprised me," Steve says, frowning slightly as raindrops catch in his eyelashes and make them heavy. He holds a hand above his eyes and then does the same for Eddie.
"You just looked so pretty, sweetheart," Eddie says, grinning at Steve like he knows what bubble pattern his fluttering gills would create (flustered and flattered).
He rolls his eyes, looking at the sky and sea in the distance. The ocean is surging, and waves and sea foam collide as the wind picks up force. Dark clouds hang over the sea, and Steve would be concerned if he didn't know the storm would clear up soon. He can tell from the sound of the ocean and the taste in the air: the water isn't angry enough and there isn't enough salt on his lips.
The rain is still going to turn brutal, though, and Steve would prefer they weren't on deck when it happens. He overheard Asher and Jeff talking about the last time Eddie got soaked to the bone and got sick. He's not sure what a "cold" is, but he doesn't want Eddie catching it again.
"Let's go back to the cabin," he says, looking back at Eddie with a light smile. "I want to hear you play that, uh, gee-tare."
"Guitar, Stevie," Eddie corrects, holding Steve tight as he stands. He has an excited smile, something expectant in his eyes that Steve still hasn't figured out.
Steve hums, knowing very well how it's pronounced, but he likes to see the somewhat dopey smile Eddie gets whenever he mispronounces something. He gets the feeling Eddie also knows he's doing it on purpose, but he's not said anything yet.
Eddie carries him down to the captain's cabin, kicking the door shut with his foot. "Where do you want to be, sweetheart?" he asks.
After a moment's consideration, Steve gestures to the bed, looking forward to the soft pillows and even softer sheets. When Eddie places him down, he wiggles until his tail is curled comfortably, soaking the sheets beneath him, and looks at Eddie expectantly.
"Any requests?" Eddie asks, clearly amused as he grabs his guitar and hops onto the bed next to Steve. His knee brushes against Steve's tail, drawing Steve's attention briefly to the faint scar that lingers across his scales.
He's been healed for almost a day now, and Steve should probably start bracing himself to say goodbye, but he'd like to remain in denial a little longer. He doesn't want to leave. Even if he knows he'll come right back with Robin and the guppies, Steve doesn't want to be away from Eddie that long. They haven't even confirmed their courtship. Leaving before they do means any merperson with half a brain could see how much of a pearl Eddie is and try to steal him away.
Steve forces the thought away, forces himself to focus on answering Eddie's question, and shakes his head. "Just play something," he says.
Eddie nods and thinks a moment as he tunes the guitar. "Could you hum something?" he asks.
When he looks up at Steve again, there's something oddly intense in his gaze. He looks determined, as though something very important is riding on this moment. Steve isn't sure what it is, exactly, but he knows he doesn't want it to pass him by. Steve nods and starts humming a soft and familiar tune, one he's used a lot more after meeting Eddie.
It must be the right choice, because Eddie practically lights up, a grin tugging at his lips and crinkling the corners of his eyes as he listens. After a few seconds, he starts plucking strings on the guitar, adding a gentle accompaniment that makes Steve's humming rock back and forth like the ocean currents.
Usually, Eddie plays fast, his music filling Steve with the same heat and energy as an underwater volcano in the middle of an eruption. But this is slow and sweet like the honey Steve tried a few days ago. It creeps through him, his gills fluttering with each note that Eddie pulls from his guitar. He feels soft and happy, his voice shifting to follow Eddie's lead as inspiration hits him.
They trade the lead back and forth between them, and Steve starts to actually sing at some point. He doesn't know when he opened his mouth and started to vocalize the notes instead of just humming them, a sweet melody forming as his voice resonates with the guitar. It just happens as naturally as swimming. Steve can no longer tell where his voice ends and the guitar begins. They've fallen into sync, strumming and singing together without missing a beat.
Steve leans closer, his heart pounding against his ribs even faster than usual. They're harmonizing. He realizes it suddenly, but it doesn't catch him off-guard. It's just a whisper in the back of his mind, a little nudge that makes him smile and move without thinking beyond the desire to be closer.
The song doesn't end naturally. In fact, Eddie is in the middle of a particularly lovely string of notes when Steve kisses him, still humming low in his throat. Eddie's fingers fumble, a sour note pulling from the guitar, but Steve doesn't care. He's too busy wrapping one hand around the back of Eddie's neck and placing the other on Eddie's chest.
He can feel Eddie's heart beating just as rapidly as his own, and Steve presses closer. He's barely balancing on his tail as Eddie moves the guitar from his lap, pushing it to the side of the bed while he kisses Steve back. Eddie pushes his hand into Steve's hair, tangling his fingers in the strands.
Steve's humming happily rises in pitch, and he finally loses his balance, his weight pressing entirely on Eddie and causing him to fall back on the bed. The kiss breaks when Eddie bounces slightly, their foreheads knocking together, and Steve can't help laughing.
"You're fucking gorgeous, sweetheart," Eddie whispers, his free hand trailing to Steve's waist and settling on his back. His fingers brush against the line where scales meet skin, and Steve shudders, his mouth going dry, and he kisses Eddie again before he can say another word.

part one
Tumblr media
“I cannot believe that happened. I’m such a fucking idiot!” you exclaim as Nancy comes running down the stairs of her basement, arms full of junk food, magazines, and the movies Robin picked up from her shift at Family Video. Robin was by your side, rubbing your back and whispering soothing little phrases in an attempt to calm you down, while Mike just ran up to his room to try and call El, not wanting to hear or deal with any of your drama anymore.
You on the other hand, were an absolute mess. The world around your was spinning when you walked into the front door of the Wheeler’s house, prompting Robin to help you down the stairs. The pit of your stomach was a gurgling mess, the horrible thought of spewing your guts still on your mind. The tears now dry on your cheeks from all the crying in the car, but now mixing with new tears forming as your thoughts from the events that occurred less than an hour ago keep flooding back to your memory, trying to process and recount everything that happened. You weren’t shocked by your response to it all, because your greatest secret just escaped from your own personal fortress and out into the world.
Your best friend knew you liked him.
And he just stood there. Looking disgusted. Horrified.
The more you thought about it, the thicker the air became around you and the harder it became to breathe. Closing your eyes, you try to focus on your breathing and think of the place where you are most relaxed, a trick your school counselor taught you when you met weekly during your parents divorce.
The only problem? Your happy place was now compromised.
The place where you felt like no wrong could happen or all the bad things that Hawkins kept throwing your way couldn’t reach was down at the Forest Hills Trailer Park, listening along to a kick ass song that a sweetheart of a metalhead would strum on his guitar as a joint hung loosely on his lips, all while you nursed on a warm beer that you would normally hate. Your nights would usually go about like that, or watching a movie together all cuddled up on his living room sofa. The times you would spend with Eddie made the fucked up world around you feel small and insignificant, like it was just the two of you existing for the rest of eternity. You would give anything just to be near him with no worries in the world. Now, that just wasn’t in the cards anymore.
“Okay so,” you hear Nancy say, setting down the stuff on the table she brought out and clasping her hands together, causing you to snap back into your current reality. You look at all the food and entertainment in front of you, wanting so badly to just indulge yourself for the evening and believe for a second that it can all be okay and things will be just fine between you and Eddie. But you know in your heart that it’s only a distraction, and when you wake up tomorrow, the pain you’re feeling now will still be very present.
“You have your pick of…well anything tonight, Y/N. Movies, magazines, any junk you want. We can even order a pizza if you’re in the mood?” Nancy suggests, sitting next to you on the couch.
“Of course she’s not in the mood, Nance! She and Eddie just-“ Robin began to say, before earning a slap on the leg from across the couch.
“Robin! Don’t bring it up! This night is about having fun and definitely not talking about any guys or girls,” Nancy yells.
“Guys, I really don’t feel like-“
“Oh so we’re not going to talk about what happened with you and Steve?” Robin asks Nancy. You scrunch your face and look at Nancy, raising your eyebrows with the puzzled look smeared across your face.
“Wait, what’s going on with you and Steve?” you ask her. Now this was a conversation you were interested in having. If you were going to have a distraction at all tonight, you wanted it to be this conversation.
“I caught the two of them flirting at Family Video the other day,” Robin admits, causing your jaw to drop as you look between the two them. Nancy lets out a huff and reaches for the bag of Cheetos in front of the three of you.
“Oh yeah? Well did Robin tell you about her and Vicky?” Nancy says, her face sliding into a smirk as a loud gasp escapes Robin’s mouth. You bust into a fit of giggles as the two of them playfully argue over the two people they were trying to be romantic with, grabbing yourself a Hostess cake to sit back and watch the drama unfold.
The three of you continue to discuss different things, ranging from their crushes, to graduation rounding the corner, and even jokingly planning a trip to take to Indianapolis for a weekend, unsure if the other two girls really meant it. Smiling to yourself, you stuff some food into your face as the jokes and conversation carry on into the late hours of the night, glad that they were able to distract you from the horrible events of the night and wash away for the time being, just living in the moment. You were trying your best to create happy memories without Eddie in them, since that is what your current future was looking like.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sound of footsteps stomping above you pull you from a blissful sleep. At some point in the night, the couch was converted into the pull out bed and the blow up mattress was put together. You weren’t sure what time the three of you wrapped your conversations and retreated to your dreams for the night, nor were you aware of what time it was currently, but part of you didn’t care all that much. Saturday’s were usually just carefree days for you anyway, catching up on homework or hanging out with Eddie.
Eddie.
The pang in your chest ignites as you recall the events of the night before, images flashing into your brain as you close your eyes and let out a deep breath. Eddie’s giddy smile as he told you about his date, Shirley draped over Eddie on his throne, Eddie’s horrified face when he found out you liked him. It hurt, it hurt more than anything you’ve felt before in your life. More than the stitches you got when you were 8, and even more than your parents divorce.
You’ve never been in a real relationship, just a few makeout sessions here and there, and Eddie was the first guy you’ve ever truly liked to the point where you thought maybe, just maybe, things would become more than the fantasy you pictured in your head. You saw yourself going on dates with Eddie, which wasn’t too different from your usual interactions and outings with him, it was just paired with more affection and…other stuff. You never thought it would be in the cards for you until you got close with him. But seeing him last night with another girl made those hopes and dreams vanish, cementing them into what they truly were: a fantasy.
Looking around, you notice Robin’s sleeping body still lying next to you on the pull out, while Nancy’s form is not in her blow up mattress she set beside the both of you on the floor. Carefully, you slide out beneath the covers and rise to your feet, walking towards the steps that led you out of the Wheeler’s basement and onto their ground floor.
The smell of pancakes, bacon, and eggs fill your senses as you open the door from the basement, looking around to see the family just now finishing up. Holly was sitting at the table with Mr. Wheeler as he read his newspaper, and Mrs. Wheeler was beginning to clean up the dishes everyone used. You flash Holly a smile when she looks to you and turn around quickly when you feel a tap on your shoulder.
“Hey,” Nancy says. You let out a sigh from the heart attack she nearly gave you and she leads you into the living room away from everyone, and away from the yummy food that was still left over.
“How are you feeling?” She asks, placing her hand on your shoulder for reassurance. Letting out another sigh, you shrug and look out into the distance, trying to collect your thoughts and truly describe just how you feel this morning.
“Not good,” you simply say, looking to Nancy with a tight lipped smile. “But last night really helped me not think about him in the moment, and I appreciate that. I had a lot of fun,” you tell her, pulling her in for a hug, which she quickly reciprocated. Her soft hands rub your back in a soothing manner, causing you to relax a bit more before pulling away to meet her eyes again.
“Do you want some breakfast? Then I can drive you and Robin home?” She asks. You nod and you both stand from the couch and make your way back into the kitchen, Nancy heading towards the basement door to inform Robin of the delicious food that awaits.
Part of you wanted to beg Nancy to stay here for the rest of the day given how close in proximity you lived to Eddie. You desperately wanted to stay at the Wheeler’s and watch the movies Robin picked up for the three of you that you never got around to last night due to your ongoing stream of consciousness conversation. Hell, you’d rather ask Nancy to take you to Skull Rock than back to the trailer park. Eddie didn’t have a job, so his weekends were spent practicing for his band or hanging out with you, and given the circumstances of last night, the latter wasn’t bound to happen this weekend. Or perhaps ever again. Regardless, he’d be at his trailer when you got back, and if what Shirley was saying last night was true, maybe he wouldn’t be alone.
And that would just be the cherry on top of your shit sundae.
Your mind and bodily reactions were moving at 1000 miles a minute as Nancy got closer and closer to the trailer park. Robin was dropped off first as she lived closest to Nancy, then the two of you began your journey back to your home. Your nerves that had been buried deep inside since last night were bubbling to the surface again, feeling exactly how you felt yesterday when you found out about his date, then accidentally confirming your feelings to Eddie. Pain in your chest, sweaty palms, light headed mind playing tricks on you.
You notice Nancy checking on you now and again, giving you positive reassurances to settle you down. She and Eddie were the ones who knew you the best, gathering the years of friendship to analyze your distressed tells and noticing even the most slight offness of your presence made both of them concerned. You sure had a way of picking the most observant people in your life.
Pulling into the trailer park, you feel the gravel beneath you shake you in your seat as Nancy carefully passes your neighbors. You rub your thighs up and down a few times, in an attempt to both stop the sweat from gathering on your palms and also to calm your nerves. Passing by Eddie’s trailer, you see his van parked right beside it, signaling that he was home, not that it was any kind of surprise. That didn’t stop your heart from skipping a beat then quickly picking up the pace.
Turning the corner, you both drive up to your trailer and see the familiar mop of brown messy curls sitting on your steps. His leg was bouncing as he bit his nails, something he really only did when he was extra nervous, as he didn’t want the bad shape of his nails to interfere with his guitar playing. Nancy looks to you and you let out a sigh, not wanting to go and have a conversation about how he doesn’t love you back and that the two of you can’t be friends any longer. All because you fucking hesitated like an idiot.
“Thanks for the ride, Nance,” you tell her. She pulls you into a hug and you let out a shaky breath, the nerves rising up more and more as you notice Eddie’s watching the two of you from her car, rising to his feet.
“You got this, okay? And if you need me, call me. I’ll be over in an instant,” she informs you, making you smile. The two of you break away from the hug and you gather your things in your hands as you open the car door. Stepping out, you thank Nancy again and shut the door, turning your attention towards Eddie, slowly walking closer.
“Hi,” you say. He continues to look at you, his face unreadable.
“You didn’t come home last night.”
“I slept over at Nance’s, we made the plans during school yesterday,” you respond, attitude dripping in your voice. “Besides, you were busy with Shirley last night anyway, so why does it matter to you?”
“I didn’t bring Shirley back here. I took her home after Hellfire,” he simply admits. You stand there for a minute looking at him, his face completely serious. Not something you saw from Eddie Munson very often, as his goofball and eccentric personality something you loved most. But you knew today was not the day for that kind of mood.
“Oh,” you let out quietly. You kick your feet in the gravel, the silence around you as thick as it was last night in the high school parking lot. You weren’t sure what to say to him. Just kidding, I don’t have a major crush on you that I think about nearly every second of every day, good times right? No, you know he knew you were serious. Those observant instincts of his could always kick in at the worst possible moments.
“Listen, Y/N, I wanted to talk about last night-“ Eddie began to say. He couldn’t even look at you as he spoke, and avoiding your nickname he had for you altogether? This isn’t something you wanted to deal with right now, trying to think of several scenarios that would allow for you to slip past him and into the sanctuary of your trailer, all so you could flop on your bed and let these emotions flow freely.
“Look, Eddie, I really don’t want to have this conversation with you right now. I don’t think I’ll be able to handle hearing this rejection, not now. Hell, maybe not ever. So I’m just gonna go inside, okay? I don’t need some big speech about how you only see me as a friend, and how you don’t think you can even be that anymore because I’ve ruined everything between us, so can you please go home and let me-“ you were rambling on and on, your breathing beginning to become uneven as the words kept spewing out of your mouth and you tried slipping past the metalhead and towards your front door.
“Jesus H. Christ, Y/N, can you please shut up and let me talk?!” He huffs out, grabbing onto your wrist to stop you. You stop in your tracks at his tone and turn towards him slowly, the sadness creeping up your spine and the tears pinching behind your eyes. Stay strong, Y/N. Do not cry in front of him, not again.
“Sorry, I’m sorry. It’s just…God, I’m nervous and I don’t know how I want to say what I’m about to say, even though I’ve been thinking about it all night,” he says. Now it was his turn to start rambling.
“Just spit it out, Eddie,” you tell him flatly, crossing your arms and waiting to brace for impact. Waiting for the bomb to drop and destroy everything in your path. Years of friendship to be destroyed in a matter of seconds.
“Right, yeah. Well, I-uh-I like you,” he blurts out.
What?
“That’s actually an understatement, sorry. I love you, Y/N. I’m in love with you,” he tells you, his eyes peering up and meeting yours. The genuine look on his face was tearing your heart to shreds. There was no way he was being serious right now, after how last night played out. You standing there in the parking lot looking like an idiot as Eddie looked scared out of his god damn mind.
“Bullshit,” you say, your words laced with venom.
“S'cues me?” He asks, his brows furrowing as you continue to hold your eye contact.
“I don’t have it in me to play games Eddie, so don’t bullshit me, I’m begging you,” you let out, sounding defeated. Part of you felt that he was only saying this because he felt sorry for how he humiliated you last night, only ‘reciprocating’ these feelings out of pure pity.
“I’m not bullshitting you, Y/N. These feelings are as real as the tatties on my body baby,” he tells you, flashing is chest tat quickly. You roll your eyes. He could never be serious for one single moment, could he?
“Give me a break. I saw how you looked at me last night, Eddie. You were…you were disgusted and horrified that someone like me could like you. It was all over your damn face!” You exclaim, walking back down the steps to be on the same level as he was.
“Sweetheart, I was in shock. I didn’t ever expect you to tell me those words…the words I’ve been waiting for years to tell you myself,” he says, walking closer to you. The two of you were mere inches away from each other as he takes your hands in his, trying his best to look up at you with his big, brown, doe eyes through his messy bangs. You felt a tear run down your face as he looked at you, feeling as if you needed to pinch yourself to see if you were still asleep and dreaming on Nancy’s pull out.
“W-why didn’t you tell me sooner, Eddie? Especially last night. I felt like a fool,” you ask, your voice trailing off as your sentence tapered into nothing. Keeping his grasp on one of your hands, he brings his other to cup your face and brush away the few tears that collected on your soft cheeks.
“Are you kidding? You’re one of the most gorgeous girls in all of Hawkins, and I’m the town freak. I never thought we’d be as close of friends as we are, let alone you wanting to be mine. I was scared out of my mind, and…I didn’t want anything to break up our friendship,” he tells you, making you giggle. “What’s so funny, sweetheart?”
“It’s just…those are some of the exact same reasons why I never told you any sooner. I didn’t want to lose you as a friend, and I thought…not having you in my life outweighed the hurt of walking around thinking you didn’t like me back,” you explain to him. You look up at him and brush his bangs out his face a bit, getting a better view of his precious eyes on you.
“Guess we’re a couple of idiots, aren’t we?” He asks, making you laugh. His laugh fills your ears which prompts you to wrap your arms around his torso, breathing in his usual smell of weed and musk. The classic Eddie smell you know and love finally filling your senses once again and soothing your nerves. Eddie pulls away ever so slightly to look at you again, his face inches from your own.
“I am so sorry about last night, sweetheart, and I am so sorry for making you feel bad and embarrassed because of how I reacted. Had I known about your feelings, that stupid date would’ve never happened. I just thought maybe moving on would help the feelings I had for you go away, but I started to realize that wasn’t the case when you started acting off during Hellfire. All I wanted to do was stop the game and come comfort you,” he explains to you. He brings his hand back up to cup your cheek and you melt into his touch.
“It’s okay, Eddie. As long as I can finally call you mine, right here and now, I think it’s something I’ll be able to forget about,” you tell him.
As if it was his answer, his lips were quick to move to yours, his smooth pink lips moving against yours, the taste of him almost heavenly…better than anything you could’ve imagined yourself in that head of yours. You wrap your arms around his neck and move deeper into the kiss, allowing his tongue to slip past your lips, your tongues massaging one another and swapping saliva like your lives depended on it.
Eddie Munson was yours, and you were his. Everything was coming together better than you could’ve imagined. Well, almost.
The two of you pull away from each other and you suck in some deep breaths, making Eddie laugh. You bite your quickly swelling lip and continue to hold him close to you. You feel your heart banging against your chest, except you knew it was for all the right reasons now. The safety of Eddies arms pull you in tight, feeling as if he could never ever let you go and had to stay like this forever.
“I’m going to spend the next however long making it up to you and showing you just how sorry I am for last night. I love you sweetheart, don’t ever get that twisted,” he tells you, placing a soft kiss on the tip of your nose.
“Well…if you say so. You got any ideas in mind for how you’ll make it up to me?” You pull away and ask, quirking a brow as you start walking towards your front door once more, pulling Eddie’s arm as you drag him along with you.
“Oh believe me, I can think of a few.”

The phone ringing startled me awake as I sat up straight in the bed. Looking at the clock, I tried to count three hours backward from the time shown, slightly struggling before jumping to my feet and rushing to the phone, answering with a groggy and breathless, “Hello?”
“Can I read this to you?”
I sighed at the sound of El’s voice before answering, “Of course, sweetie.”
She always read me her letters that she wrote to Mike, asking for my advice on whether or not it sounded good enough. “Okay. Here it goes. ‘Dear Mike, today is day 185. Feels more like 10 years. Joyce says time is funny like that. Emotions can make it speed up or slow down. We are all time travelers if you think about it. For example, this week is going very fast. I think because I am so busy. I have to make something called a visual aid. I hope Mrs. Gracey will give me an A. Some exciting news; Joyce got an amazing new job. She gets to work at home. She says she loves the freedom. Will is painting a lot, but he-he won’t show me what he’s working on. M-maybe it is for a girl. I think there is someone he likes. Because he has been acting… weird. Jonathan is acting weird, also. I think he is just nervous about college. He is still waiting for his big letter. I hope he and Nancy get to go together. But I don’t know how he’ll ever get to college because his car is still broken down. His funny friend Argyle has been taking us to school. His hair is longer than mine. And he and Jonthan like to smoke smelly plants together. Jonathan says the plants are super safe because they come from the Earth, but to not tell Joyce. Me? I’m twice as happy now. You were right. It just takes time. I think I have finally adapted. At first, I missed all the spring flowers, but now I find it pretty here, too. I even like school now. I am still best at math, but my grammar is good now also. Thanks in part to Olivia back home. It helps that everyone is so nice here. I have made lots of friends. Even so, I am ready for Spring Break, mostly because I get to see you. I am so excited to see you, it is hard to breathe. Are you excited, too? I think you will love it here like me. I think we will have the best Spring Break ever. I hope my spelling was better this time. Miss you. Love, El.’”
She breathed deep on her end of the phone, silently asking me what I thought. Taking a drag from my cigarette, which I rarely ever do, I nodded my head before saying, “It’s good! But the part about friends? I’m not sure that should be in there.” El’s kept her word on telling me every detail when she calls me. This bitch Angela bullies her to no end, and it pisses me off to the point where I want to get in my car and drive to California to beat the shit out of this girl… but I can’t since she’s a minor and I’m 19 years old. “Maybe just tell him the truth?” I took another drag, holding it for a moment as I said, “The truth–” I blew the smoke from my lungs. “Is a lot better than having to cover up your lies in front of him when he’s there in a couple days.”
“Livvie! Are you smoking again?” Mom hollered.
“Shit,” I whispered, dabbing my cigarette.
“Steve will be here soon!”
Holding the mouthpiece of the phone, I hollered back, “Okay!” Sighing and shaking my head, I removed my hand, saying into the mouthpiece. “Listen, get ready for school, do the finishing touches for your visual aid that I know you’re gonna kick ass on, and have a good day at school, okay? I’m sorry this phone call is short.”
“It’s okay,” El said. “Can I call you tonight?”
“I’ll be at Steve’s, but sure,” I smiled. “You can call.”
“Okay. Argyle is here. I finished my visual aid before I called you.”
“Okay, sweetie. Have a good day at school.” “I will. Bye, Olivia.”
“Bye, El.” I hung up the phone, yawning after I did so. Going into the kitchen, I made myself a cup of coffee, adding my sugar and cream into it before taking a sip and walking back into my room.
No, Steve’s parents didn’t come home last night. Dustin needed help with something for school, so I told him I’d come for the night to help him. My plan was to go back to Steve’s, but I ended up falling asleep on Dustin’s bed, him waking me up to kick me out of his room. As I entered my own room, my phone was ringing, so I walked to it, picking up the receiver, answering with, “Can’t I just enjoy a cup of coffee this morning?”
“Good morning to you, too,” Steve said.
Sighing, I said, “Oh. Morning, baby.”
“Hey, listen. I’m gonna leave here in a few minutes to come get you and then pick up Robin, okay? So, be ready this time.”
I chuckled. Last time he had to come get me from my house I wasn’t ready for work. He and I had had… a night and I was super tired the next day, so I didn’t wake up with my alarm. We were late for work and Robin was late to school that day.
“Okay, I’ll be ready.”
“Promise?”
“Promise! I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
I hung up the phone, taking another sip of my coffee while looking at my closet door. I set my mug down, walking towards the door when I heard a knock on my bedroom door. “What?”
“Liv, I need you to stall Mom,” Dustin said.
“And why, pray tell, do I need to do that?” I asked, turning to look at him with my arms crossed.
“I’m talking to Suzie and I need you to not tell her what’s going on behind my door.”
Scrunching my face in disgust, I said, “Dustin, I don’t need to hear you two have radio sex.”
“We’re not! It’s something about school,” he exclaimed.
Sighing, I said, “Fine. Whatever. But you owe me.”
“Thank you!” he said, running back across the hall to his room, sliding his door closed.
I turned back to my closet, finally able to go into it to pick my outfit for the day; a graphic tee, comfortable but tight-fitted jeans and my Converse. I’ve been working with Steve and Robin at Family Video since October and I have to say I quite enjoy it. Not the whoring out my boyfriend part, but everything else about the job, aside from Keith, is awesome!
Once I was dressed, I heard talking on Dustin’s Cerebro, that he somehow installed in the house, so I poked my head in to see what was going on.
“That’s a negative, Dusty-bun,” Suzie said.
“Son of a bitch,” Dustin said, pressing a button on his radio. “Try tigers86.”
“Tigers86, copy that.”
“What the fuck are you doing?” I asked, walking into his room, sliding his door to a crack.
“Liv, not now,” Dustin said.
I sighed, “Alright. Oh! I can’t pick you up tonight. Steve and I are going to the game and then I’m going back to his house.”
“Fine, whatever,” he said, going back to his radio.
“Jiminy Crickets, Dusty,” Suzie said. “I’m in.”
“Holy shit,” he said.
“Wait, is she… is she hacking into the school system?” I asked.
Dustin and I jumped at the sound of hearing pounding on his door, Mom’s voice ringing on the other side, “Dusty, what’s going on in there? You’re gonna be late.”
Mom went to open the door just as Dustin shouted, “Don’t come in! I’m naked!”
She shut the door before saying, “Oh, Livvie! Steve’s here!”
I said, “Shit!” at the same time Dustin said into his radio’s mouthpiece, “Running out of time here!”
I walked out of his room as I heard Suzie tell him to hold on. Walking past Mom in the hallway, she told me to grab a slice of toast on my way out, which I told her I would, grabbing it and a banana before rushing out of the house, hearing Steve honk his horn. “Alright, Harrington! I’m coming!”
Opening the passenger side door, I tossed the banana at him, my piece of toast hanging between my teeth. As I buckled my seatbelt, he backed up out of our driveway and started towards Robin’s house before he sighed out and said, “Good morning, Henderson.” “Harrington,” I said, muffled through a bite of toast. I shook my head while taking the toast from between my teeth, saying, “Ew. No.”
He chuckled, handing the banana back to me. “You’re lucky I let you eat in my car.”
“At least I brush the crumbs off my legs when I get out of the car.” I finished my toast by the time we got to Robin’s house. Getting out of the car, I brushed the crumbs off my jeans, turning to go back in the passenger seat when Robin called out, “I need the front, Henderson!”
When I turned to face her, she shoved her shako into my hands, the yellow and white plume sticking out of the top. Yes, I know marching band lingo, shut up.
As we started driving, Steve was telling her about our date we had the other day when we had the day off. “And then we went to Enzo’s and had an amazing dinner–”
Leaning between the seats, I interrupted, “I literally thought he was going to propose, it was so freaking romantic.”
“And then we went back home and watched a movie–”
“Cuddling on the couch before I fell asleep to the movie.”
“What, no sex?” Robin asked.
Chuckling, I said, “No. Not that night. The next morning, however…”
“Gross.”
“You asked!” I exclaimed.
“Liv, I’m not fully awake yet. It is 7:00 in the morning, we have this stupid pep rally, and I woke up looking like a total corpse.” She pulled her face back after fluffing her hair a little bit.
“Oh, you’re worried about a basketball pep rally?” Steve asked. “You expect me to believe that?”
“Newsflash, Steve, you were in the pep rallies, remember?” I said, poking his cheek.
“Yeah? So?” Robin said.
“We all know what this is about,” I said, looking at her profile. “He’s not buying any bullshit. This is about Vickie.” I smiled at her as she turned her head to look at me. “Absolutely not.”
“Yes, it is, and you know what else I think?” Steve said.
“I don’t care–”
“I think you gotta stop pretending to be someone else when you’re around her.”
“You just gotta be yourself, love,” I said.
“You’re both quoting me to me, you do realize that right?” Robin said.
“Well, maybe you need to listen to yourself,” Steve said. “Ever think about that, smartypants? I mean, I listened. Look at me. Boom. Back in business.”
Looking at him, I deadpanned, “You’ve been in business, Steve. For over a year!”
“It’s not the same thing,” Robin said. “And Liv’s right.”
“Plus, when you asked out girls, they all said no,” I said. “Big deal. Nothing happened, other than your ego getting bruised–”
“I ask out the wrong girl, and bam, I’m a town pariah,” Robin added.
“Yeah, I’d buy that, except Vickie is definitely not the wrong girl,” Steve said.
“We just don’t know that, do we?”
“She returned Fast Times paused at 53 minutes, 5 seconds. Do you know who pauses Fast Times at 53 minutes, 5 seconds?”
Silence.
“Oh, my god,” I breathed. “People who like boobies, Robin!”
“Ew, don’t say boobies!” she said.
“I like boobies, Steve definitely likes boobies, you like boobies! Vickie definitely likes boobies,” I said.
“Wait, you like boobs?” they both asked.
“We’re not talking about me.”
We got to the high school, Robin and I getting out before I handed her her shako hat for the pep rally. We hugged before she ran off with her friends, chatting and walking them as she met up with them.
“Were we like this?” I asked, leaning over a little bit.
“Yup,” Steve said.
I looked at him, our eyes meeting. I smiled as he leaned in closer, our lips meeting for a second before I heard kids through the opened windows saying, “Get a room, Harrington!”
We pulled apart as I groaned, resting my forehead on his shoulder. “Get me off this campus before I beat the shit out of these sophomores.”
He chuckled, driving off to our day job that helps with the bills… metaphorically speaking.
~~~
I was standing with Steve on our side of the counter when the phone rang, and because I was standing by the phone, I turned around and picked it up, answering it with “Family Video, this is Olivia speaking. How can I help you today?”
“Liv, I need you tonight for Hellfire.”
Chuckling, I said, “No way, Dustin. Not tonight.”
“What?! Come on!”
“I don’t even know how to play! Plus, I’ve got a date with Steve tonight.” I turned my head over my shoulder, watching Steve help out a female customer.
“Just move your date this one time! Come on.”
“What, to hang out with you and Eddie? I’ll pass this time.”
“What about Steve?”
“Negatory, little brother.”
“He’s just jealous because I have another older male friend.”
I heard the smug little smile on his stupid little face. “Yeah, I don’t think he feels the same. Besides, Steve and I really dig each other. I think that he could… well, I know he’s the one.” I watched as some girls walked into the store. “Oh, I got– well, Steve has customers. I’ll call you back.” I hung up the phone, faintly hearing Dustin say that he’s at school.
Turning my head over my shoulder, I whispered, “You're on, babe.”
~~~
Once we were done with our shift, Steve and I went to grab a bite to eat before heading to the basketball game. I said hey to Nancy as we walked in and gave a small wave to Lucas with a thumbs up. He slightly smiled back at me, going back to his warm ups.
After Steve and I found a spot in the bleachers, I turned into him after he put his arm around my shoulders once we sat down. I looked up at him, asking, “Baby, would it bother you if we won this game after we’ve graduated?”
“Interesting point,” he said. “Thanks for bringing that up, babe.”
I chuckled, wrapping my arms around his middle while still looking at him. He looked down at me, giving me a chaste kiss on my lips. “I love you.”
“I love you, too,” he said, a smile ever present on his face.
The principal came up to the microphone that was in the middle of the gym, asking, “Everyone now please rise for our national anthem.” You could hear everyone standing, collectively. “Singing for us tonight, we have a very special guest. All the way from Nashville, our very own Tammy Thompson!”
I clapped while looking confused at Steve as he looked over at Robin, a confused look on his face as well. Tammy started singing, the microphone giving feedback as she did.
“Told you,” Steve whispered. “Muppet.”
“Oh, my god,” I whispered, trying to hold back my laugh at either Steve calling her a muppet or her singing, I couldn’t decide. Maybe a little bit of both.
“Okay, she does sound like a Muppet,” Robin whispered.
“Oh, my god, totally,” I heard Vickie agree. “She sounds like Kermit.”
“I was thinking it was more like Miss Piggy.”
I snorted, turning my head into Steve’s shoulder, his hand coming up to rest on cheek from my shoulder.
When the game started, we got two baskets right off the rip. I honestly didn’t get basketball, I just knew the basics from what Steve had tried to explain to me over the years. But everytime he got to what he thinks is interesting stuff, I would always fall asleep.
I swear I was getting whiplash just watching the boys run up and down the gym, shooting baskets, colliding with one another, almost getting into fights with other team and the ref.
Seeing movement from the corner of my eye, I looked in Lucas’ direction, seeing him running onto the court. “Oh, my god. He’s putting Lucas in. He’s putting Lucas in!” I exclaimed, jumping in my seat, happy that one of my kids is actually playing.
I knew three of them were on school grounds with Hellfire, so I wasn’t worried about them. I wasn’t worried about Lucas either, moreso happy for him that he’s finally getting to play.
Steve was enthusiastic as ever, standing and shouting at our players to shoot the ball, to pass it, to not travel with the ball. I swear to god, seeing him in this element turned me on like no freaking other.
Steve and I were standing, the ball being passed and dribbled around before he said, “Shoot it!” as one of our players got the ball, making the basket.
A few more points in and Jason, the captain, called a timeout. The team huddled together as the drumline started to play a cadence. I secretly did band throughout middle school and freshman year of high school. I quit once Steve became King, not wanting him to be associated with a “nerd.”
Once the game continued, Jason got the ball, and from what I heard from Dustin, Jason’s a cocky motherfucker who thinks he's the top dog of the high school just because he’s King. No one will ever meet up to Steve as King.
Jason shot the ball, not making the basket at all. Ha ha! That’s what he gets. Lucas grabbed the ball as it bounced off the rim, breaking out of the huddle to run a few feet from the basket, turning around to make the shot as the buzzer went off.
You could hear everyone collectively stand again as the ball flew through the air. I could feel Steve behind me as we watched the ball bounce off the rim to the backboard and into the basket, giving us the Championship win!
Steve and I jumped, excited for Lucas and excited for the win. He wrapped me in his arms, giving me a kiss on the lips as the players and cheerleaders ran over to Lucas, chanting his name.
We had waited outside for the team to come out after hitting the showers, Lucas spotting us right away.
“Oh, my god,” I exclaimed, giving him a big hug. “Congratulations!”
“Thanks, Liv,” he said. When we pulled apart, he kept his hands on my shoulders. “Thanks for coming.”
“Of course!” I said. “I wouldn’t miss my little brother playing for the world!”
He smiled before looking at Steve, giving his thanks to him as well. Jason and his small crew came out, calling Lucas over to them. He walked with them as Steve and I started our own journey to his car.
I stopped him as I watched Dustin and the rest of Hellfire walk out of the school. He spotted me, raising his hands in the air. “Liv!” Dustin shouted. “We won!”
Giving him a smile, I raised my thumbs out to him, letting him know I was proud of him.
Steve and I went home that night and celebrated with a movie and popcorn, clothing optional.

Pairing: Steve Harrington x FemReader!PlusSize
Warnings: fluff, mentions of bullying, body image issues, fat shaming, angst, trust issues.
Summary: Beth Walker was used to living in the shadows. She had only one friend and anyone else who paid her mind usually bullied her for her size. So she learned to keep her mouth shut, her head down, and her heart closed because she had to accept the fact that she would be nothing more than the fat girl to people. That is until Robin decides Beth needs more in life and that might just include a boy who she never would’ve thought could see her for who she truly was.

For once Steve wanted to be the one to avoid Beth but he knew it would be best not too. That she asked him to go to this football game even after she admitted that he had hurt her. So he stuck to his word, told the kids they had to come, and Nancy that he would see her later. Now he was bundled up in his jeans and a hoodie, parking his BMW in the dark parking lot, and walking towards the stadium lights with his hands shoved deep in his pockets. He felt sick from nerves and he knew he was acting funny. That was why Dustin had hounded him the entire way there about why he was in a mood. He couldn't tell him, he didn't think he could ever admit those words out loud. The kids and Steve spotted the girls standing below the stands, waiting for them with happy smiles. Beth flicked her eyes between Nancy and Steve, unsure if this was even a good idea after all. Where Steve was just grateful to see Eddie had decided not to come.
"Hey guys" Beth said once they reached her and before she could aknowledge any of them saying hi back Steve had her in a bonecrushing hug, his arms tucked under her arms, and head shoved between her neck and shoulder. It was almost as if he was trying to cover himself with her completely. Steve was, he wanted his hug to convey every apology he could muster and hope she could feel it, feel his guilt and need to comfort her.
"Alright, get a room" Mike huffed, heading towards the stands. Lucas and Dustin giggled but Max glared at them making them instantly stop. He had been moody considering El was now thousands of miles away and he didn't get to hug her like that when he wanted.
"You okay?" Beth nervously asked, sensing his guilt. She knew it, he was leaving her for Nancy and he felt guilty about it. That would be the only reason he was acting like this, like he was so apologetic towards her.
"Yeah, could we talk after the game?" his eyes turned serious and she gulped before nodding, realizing this would be the end of it. All in one day she was going to find out Colin liked her and Steve didn't anymore. She told herself she should be thankful, that she got to experience this at all even if it was only for a little while. She never imagined one boy liking her let alone two. Little did she know his guilt was from knowing what he did to her. She had never expected him to remember.
“Of course Steve” she told him trying to not seem so solemn. Steve didn’t notice, offering a soft smile as he locked his hand within her own and walked her up the stands. He wanted all those assholes to see and never ever hurt her again.
Beth had this image of herself as a little kid. Not necessarily popular but well liked, friends with most of her class, getting to go to friday night football, snuggle with a cute guy in the stands or wear one of the players jerseys as she cheered for him. It was an American dream in a sense. It was so vivid, the way the stadium lights illuminated her features and the big tiger in the center of the turf stared back at the stands. Maybe she was going to be a cheerleader, who knows? That dream was crushed the first day of freshman year. So even though she was a senior and Steve was more than likely dumping her tonight at least she got this one moment. Walking up the silver metal stands, dream boy Steve Harrington holding her hand, everyone looking down, sharing whispers that were more than likely mean, but Beth didn't care because she was at a football game with a cute boy and her friends, and for the next two hours she was going to enjoy it.
That was exactly what she did. She ignored every shared glance between Steve and Nancy, cheered for the team as loud as she could, and laughed with her new group of friends. Dustin told her all about his girlfriend Suzie, Mike felt comfortable enough to share about El, and Lucas snuggled with Max on the bleachers. Beth was glad they had that, something she always wished she did for four years straight. It didn't matter that the football team was always mean to her and that she only had these friends because of Robin and Steve. She got to enjoy it when a shiver chilled her spine and Steve was tucking her under his arm, pulled so close she could smell pine and boy. She loved it, she could never get sick of it.
"I can bring you home Mike if you need?" Nancy was telling her little brother as they decended the stands.
"Lucas and Dustin were going to come over if that's okay?" he asked back and Nancy nodded, quickly looking over to Steve. Beth realized it was probably hard to avoid your ex when your friend group worked as a family unit.
"I can take Max too if you guys want some privacy" Nancy told them, glancing between Steve and Beth and Beth felt her stomach drop. Nancy knew Steve was dumping her for her. She wanted them to have the privacy to do it.
"That would be great, thanks" Steve said and Beth tried to pull herself together. She wanted to save face, to stop handling things like a fat, hurt, crying girl. She was going to be adult about her first real break up even if they weren't offically together at all and hadn't even kissed.
"Who's going to drive me?" Robin pouted and the kids all giggled, forgetting that Robin was just like them when it came to needing to be driven around.
"We'll put you in the trunk" Nancy teased and Dustin looked at Steve, waiting to see if he would argue.

"Steve, I thought everyone had to wear their seatbelts?" his arms crossed, challenging him to challenge Nancy on her squeezing everyone in her car.
"What Steve doesn't know won't hurt him" Nancy said, ruffling the hat on his head, and pretending the brunette boy wasn't standing there. Beth found herself laughing even though Steve wasn't putting up a fight. Normally he'd stick his ground but apparently he needed to be alone with her so badly he didn't say a word.
"Be good for Nance" Steve pointed at them all as they walked away. Nance. Beth hated that he said it so easily, that if fell off his lips with respect, that they had history. She wished she was still bitter and didn't learn that Steve was now a good guy. Protecting those kids like they were his own. She wanted to be loved by him like that. Then he was glancing down at Beth, a soft smile splayed across his lips. "You ready?"
Beth wanted to say no. She wanted one more minute before he told her something silly like 'I'm sorry I ever started things with you, I've always loved Nancy, I'm going to fight to get her back' but Beth knew her time was already limited, there was no use begging for more now. "Yeah lets go"
Steve purposely parked next to her, that way they could walk together no matter what happened. Now in the dark parking lot he wasn't sure this was the place. Then again he didn’t want one of the places they shared a happy memory tainted by this, by his terrible actions. It was better to do it at the school, where the memory was held in the first place. "I don't even know how to start"
"I get it's hard Steve" Beth found herself saying, the now mainly abandened parking lot dark, the moonlight casting down on their skin. Steve leaned against the hood of his car, his hands still in Beth's and holding her close like she was going to flee at any moment.
"It's not like this is a conversation everyone has" Steve started to shake his head, not catching on that they were talking about two completely different things. Beth found herself being strong, ready to have this conversation.
"It's okay Steve, just say it. I'm ready" Beth urged him, taking a step closer even though if he moved just an inch he could feel her tummy, catch on to her actual size, realize it wasn't flat but jutted out and it would bother him.
"I don't know if I'm ready" he whispered and Beth sighned, her head hurting from fighting off tears but she knew she wore a pained look. She'd pick and choose her battles, she was done shedding tears over not being good enough. Starting right now.
"It's okay, just say you're picking Nancy and we can both move on" Steve's eyes widened as he looked at her, shock and confusion flooding through his features, thoughts running a mile a minute. Beth just figured he was confused as to how she knew.
"What?-" he started to blurt but was cut off by the slam of a car door, Colin Matterson stood now free of his uniform, hair wet with sweat, and an awkward look on his face. Beth hadn't been able to look at him since this morning. Even if he did like her, he never had to be as vile as he was. She was growing though, becoming a butterfly, and with guys like him you had to kill them with kindness. Just as Steve started to stand, ready to tell him to take a hike, Beth cut him off.
"Good job tonight Colin, that touchdown was impressive" Beth spoke into the air and Steve swore he saw the smallest smile on his face from the praise. Beth waited for something mean, prepared to take it like a big girl but it never came.
"Thanks, glad you guys came to support us" and just like that he was in his car, igniting the engine, and pulling out of the parking lot. Steve flashed Beth a confused look but before he could ask the memory of what she had said hit him and he decided to table it for a later time.
"I am so not picking Nancy" he said, regrabbing Beth's hands and pulling her flush against him. She wanted to panic about him feeling her, all her curves, the weight of her, but his words were making her ears ring and now she was more confused than ever.
"But I saw you outside, you were holding hands and hugging. I just assumed..." Steve was shaking his head, almost laughing at the mix up but he needed her to hear him, to understand.
"She was just giving me advice, I wanted to make sure I didn't screw things up with you and no one is more honest than your ex girlfriend" he said, an amused smile on his face. Beth let it settle that he had went to her for advice, not to reignite the spark. Her heart eased for just a moment before speeding up again, because what did he need advice about?
"Then why did you need to talk to me?" she wore a puzzled expression, trying to figure it out and Steve visibly winced, squeezing his eyes shut like the memory of his original conversation pained him.
"I remember B, I remember all of it" the words gut punched her, the memory of how mean his voice was that day. How unecessary all of it was. How it ruined the rest of highschool for her, she was never comfortable in her own skin ever again. Unwillingly she took a step back from the boy, not allowing herself to feel his comfort because he had hurt her. Steve's heart broke when she did.
"You remember?" she whispered, trying to wrap her mind around the fact that he actually remembered, from all those years ago, the pain and discomfort of it all.
"Please let me start by saying how sorry I am. I regretted it the day I did it. I don't even know why I went along with Tommy, I knew he was a dumbass. I guess I was just scared" but Beth was shaking her head, dropping his hands as she tried to process what was happening. This had turned completely from the conversation she had expected to have. She wasn't tough enough for this one yet.
"I was excited that day" Beth didn't want to make him feel any worse but her mind had returned to fifteen year old her. Scared, excited, ready to grow up and have the best four years of her life. She knew she was different but nobody had said it out loud yet. She never would've thought someone saying it could hurt her so much.
"Beth" Steve was reaching for her but she was still shaking her head, fighting off tears because of how badly the memory hurt her.
"I thought I could rule the world, make new friends, try out for clubs and sports. I spent the whole first day hiding in bathrooms and crying" Steve flinched as she admitted this. He remembered being over it by third period, having buried the memory so deep he couldn't even remember it.
"I know baby, I know. I should've defended you, apologized years ago, but the reason I forgot wasn't because I didn't care, it was because if I let myself care too much I'd hate myself. It is no excuse but I was a stupid teenager, the guy I am now would beat the shit out of the guy I used to be" Steve said, arms finally locked on her. She didn’t fight him as he pulled her into a hug, hand smoothing down her hair. "If it helps I do hate myself for it"
"I don't hate you, so you shouldn't either" she told him, smiffling into his chest. She hated how warm he was, how him touching her made her skin tingle, how he made her love him when she vowed to hate him forever. She didn't hate him though. That made all the difference.
“Just know I’m so sorry, I’m going to spend the rest of my life making up for it. I’ll even try and make Tommy and Carol apologize” Beth snorted, it wasn’t pretty but she didn’t care. She squeezed him tighter, heart warming over because he remembered for her and he wanted to make things right.
“That would be useless, Karma will get them with time” she told him and Steve grinned before kissing the top of her head. That was when she remembered.
I can’t kiss you unless I feel your true intentions behind it.
She knew he remembered too. She could tell because the air was heavy just like it was in the car that night. When he was so close all she could think about was him. Not about her weight, about her loneliness, only him. A guy who saw her for what she was and not for the things that made her less. A guy who wanted to kiss her exactly as she was. A guy she had been waiting for, for a really long time.
“You said I could kiss you once you knew I meant well” Steve whispered, his fingers tucking her soft curls behind her ear. She shivered as they continued to trail down her neck and bump against her collarbone.
“Well that, and…” Beth didn’t want to say it. She was hoping she’d have sometime while he tried to remember to come to terms with her size. Convince herself that being fat didn’t bother him.
“And what baby?” he asked, a hand cupping behind her neck and the other wrapped around her waist.
“And when I knew my size didn’t bother you” Steves heart broke, thinking she felt she wasn’t worthy of being kissed because she didn’t think she was attractive. This was that tough line he didn’t want to screw up. He didn’t want to say the wrong thing.
“Baby, your size never bothered me. It didn’t that first day of school and it doesn’t now. If it did I would’ve never bothered getting to know you in the first place” his words eased her heart, a warmth flooding through her stomach and up to her chest. She realized she was starting to like him way more than she ever planned on.
“You mean that?” she asked into the chilly air, the small street lamps barely hitting them in the darkness of the parking lot.
“I mean everything” he told her, eyes flicking down to her lips. He wanted to memorize how they were curved, how the top lip was smaller than the bottom lip but that might just be because her bottom lip jutted out naturally, a permanent pout that looked so gorgeous on her. He also never wanted to forget the perfect pink color, a color he swore he had never seen before. He wondered for a moment if it would change when her lips met his own. “Can I kiss you?”
“I trust you” and Steve knew that meant yes. That she had forgiven him in someway even if the wound still hurt. His head dipped down and he watched as her eyes fluttered closed, a nervous breath visible in the cold.
Steve smiled before completely ducking down, his neck bent nearly as far as it could to meet her height. He slid his hand up her neck, fingers tangling through her hair as he guided her up to meet his mouth. They were right there, angled perfectly against each other and Beth let out a small gasp as his lips brushed her own. Just as Steve went to take a breath in he pressed his lips firmly against her own. Taking all of her in. She tasted like cherries and he realized cherry was now his favorite flavor. Beth wasn’t quite sure what to do, she had never been kissed, but slowly she mirrored Steves movements. Slowly she closed her own lips around him and found herself smiling. Steve grinned right back, smiles pressed against each other as he drank up all of her that he could.
Beth’s arms were tangled around his neck, Steve moving his arms to wrap around her waist as he kissed her like an innocent teenager would. They didn’t need anything more, just a simple first, lips locked and discovering exactly what the other person felt like. Beth knew she could do this forever, just her and him in this dreadful parking lot. The exact parking lot that had been many firsts for them.
“I better get home” Beth spoke after they broke apart for air, foreheads still pressed together as she breathlessly chuckled.
“Yeah, me too. Drive safe for me?” Beth nodded and he grinned before pecking her lips once more and guiding her to her car. Closing her in he offered one last smile and wave before the corvette engine was revving loud enough they wouldn’t be able to hear each other.
Beth couldn’t wipe the smile from her face even if she tried. It was like it was broken. The whole ride she fought herself to drop the corners of her mouth and yet they wouldn’t go away. It didn’t even matter that her cheeks were hurting, she was so happy she was beaming. Her first kiss, and it couldn’t have been any better. She was shocked she even made it home because she was completely dazed out, remembering how sweet he had kissed her, how he tasted like peppermint. She was so busy thinking about it she found herself pushing open the door to her home and falling against it as soon as it was shut.
“A good night?” Beth heard the voice ask, it sounded too far away for it to even register.
“Hmm?” she hummed, still beaming as she remembered every touch, how pillowy soft his lips were.
“I asked if it was a good night?” snapping out of it she shook her head as if to clear the memory of Steve just to see her father in his easy chair with an amused smile.
“It was a great night” she recovered, pushing off the door and all Alan could do was snicker before turning back to the TV.
“You better get upstairs before your mother sees you” Beth furrowed her eyebrows and he turned to see her confused look. “I can see ‘I just got kissed’ written across your forehead. So unless you want her hounding you with questions you better get going”
“Oh” Beth blushed, now embarrassed her father had figured it out. She needed a better poker face. Quickly she started for the stairs.
“It better of just been a kiss or I’ll have to kick his ass” he told her as she moved up the steps and quickly she nodded.
“Understood sir” she told him and Alan just shook his head as his daughter disappeared upstairs.
“Teenagers” he muttered under his breath before chuckling.
“Oh did I miss Beth?” Allie came from the kitchen and Alan gave her a quick smile. Covering for his daughter.
“Yeah she was pretty tired so she went right to bed” he told her and she nodded before moving to sit beside him.
“I’m glad she’s finally getting out there” she told him and he nodded, reaching to grab his wife’s hand. She knew what she meant, that they had been worried she would never make friends. Now here she was, coming home love struck from kissing a boy. Who would’ve thought.
“Me too, as long as she doesn’t get hurt”

Does anyone else think that Mike knows about his feelings for Will but he’s already decided that it’s not possible for Will to feel the same? Like, there was Jennifer Hayes at Will’s funeral who was implied to have some sort of crush on him (Dustin’s comment and she was wearing a red shirt in that scene). Then there’s the girl who asks Will to dance at the snowball and Mike’s standing right next to Will and encourages him to go dance with her. Then he stares at them dancing and sits alone until El shows up. After El shows up he spends all his time with her and tries to be normal. Then the rain fight happens and Will challenges the idea that there’s no hope for Mike for the first time. Mike says, “what did you really think? That we were never gonna get girlfriends? That we were gonna stay in my basement all day and play games for the rest of our lives.” And Will tells Mike that he did think that. Mike immediately goes to apologize for what he said- and then everything happens with the mind flayer and El- and possibly Will- is in danger and he crumples under the pressure. The second time Will challenges the idea that Mike can’t be happy is at the end of season three when Will tells him that it’s “not possible” that he’ll join another party. He tells Mike that he isn’t going to leave him behind. Then El kisses Mike and Mike is stunned, eyes wide open, an odd reaction for someone who started the season making out with her. This is what I interpret as his realization that he isn’t going to be able to change/he doesn’t want her/it’s not a phase.
Season four starts off with the lab and Brenner and then El’s letter. In her letter, El tells Mike that she thinks that Will likes a girl in Lenora. This is the third time that Mike has been confronted with girls liking Will and Will getting a girlfriend and leaving him behind. Even though Will resisted that idea in season three, Mike and him haven’t spoken for about six months and Mike is now dealing with the possibility of Will liking a girl and what his own feelings- and inability to tell El he loves her- say about him. Mike gets to Lenora and immediately sees the painting that Will doesn’t show him. That’s a point for- Will likes a girl. Then Mike and Will fight while trying to find El, and Will confronts Mike about him not calling or writing to him. A point for- …maybe Mike’s not alone? All of their scenes together where they talk about Mike and Will’s relationship, and what’s happening with El- that aren’t led by Mike- teeter on a line between ‘Will is normal and telling Mike to be with his girlfriend’ and ‘Will is like Mike.’ Then the monologue happens, and Will pushes Mike towards El one final time.
Mike and Will are playing 4d chess with their feelings for each other. Unscrambling what the other is too scared to say directly isn’t easy for either of them. Will seems to have more hope about Mike than Mike does about Will. Mike seems to have already made the decision that he has to try to be normal, and that he’s alone. It’s somewhat similar to how Mike handled Will’s potential death. When Troy and his friend chased Dustin and Mike and told Mike to jump off a cliff, Mike would have been halfway between believing Will is alive and knowing that he saw a body. When Troy told Mike to jump, while he was also being threatened with Dustin being harmed- there were other things happening that would affect Mike’s decision. Lucas wasn’t there, El wasn’t there, Will might be dead. Mike is alone. So, he jumps. Mike decided not to fight Troy, or the idea that Will was alive, or that El would come back, or that Lucas and him could fix their friendship. He decided that the worse case scenario was reality. So, it seems likely that this aspect of his character hasn’t changed over the course of the story. Which is why Mike isn’t able to entertain the idea that Will might feel the same about him, and that he’ll ever have anything more than what he has with El.

Hi. Can you tell us how do you believe byler will happen in s5 in the most realistic way? How the love triangle will be resolved?
Hi :) I usually hesitate to make specific s5 predictions because I have a feeling it will be different from what any of us expect so I don’t want to pretend I’ve got all the answers. That being said:
These are my general thoughts/predictions going into season 5:
First, I think it’s likely El will spend a lot of time bonding with Lucas (because of Max–didn’t Caleb allude to this already?), and probably Hopper too. I think she’s really going to come into her independence and realise Mike’s ‘love’ isn’t doing anything except holding her back. We see throughout the series that her character develops when she is not with Mike and stagnates/regresses when they are dating. With her parental figure returned to protect and support her, and newfound determination to achieve her goal i.e. save her best friend (something Mike’s ‘love’ couldn’t help her do), she really has like…not much need for him? I think El got what she thought she wanted (Mike’s confession), only to find it wasn’t what she really needed (it didn’t help her win in the end), and she’s going to be processing this come s5.
I think Mike will recognise that El is pulling away and direct his attention to the person who actually does need him: Will. We already see the beginnings of this in ‘2 days later’: El isolates herself in her old room, clearly not happy, and Mike chooses to comfort Will instead of going to her. Same pattern as in the final shot: El walks away from Mike, alone, and he stays by Will’s side.
Mike and Will are likely going to spend a large chunk of the season together. This has been foreshadowed (‘We have to kill him’/‘We will’, them paired in the final shot). Will is probably going to find himself in danger early on (he’s the supernatural focus of the season and it’s confirmed they are jumping straight into the action), which will bring the return of s2 Mike in full force.
I think we will get a lot of romantic tension, and references to their history to remind the audience how special their relationship really is. And most crucially: the gradual unveiling of what’s really going on in Mike’s head—probably while he himself is coming to terms with all of it—so the audience can begin to piece together why he’s changed so much since s3. I’m not sure how they will do this (more explicit pining? Vecna? Mike confiding in someone else?) but it’s really important otherwise Will is going to look like a second choice.
Thinking about the break up, mid-season is most likely to me because I just don’t believe Mike or El are quite there yet in their arcs for an early season split. Imo, Mike still needs to process that his ‘feelings’ for El are rooted in attachment/codependency (though I do think on some level he is aware that he’s not actually in love, which is why he did everything in his power to avoid the word—friends don’t lie), which will naturally happen when he starts to accept that how he feels for Will is what love is supposed to feel like. El also needs time to fully understand that she’s better off without their ‘romance’. The time-skip is a mystery to me, but I think Mlvn have to break up before it happens. (If their relationship makes it another two years and then Byler happens, Will is again going to look like a second choice and no-one is going to buy it).
As for how the break up would actually go down, I can’t be sure but I hope it will be amicable and light-hearted (maybe even a bit funny like an ‘I dump your ass’ callback as I think El is most likely to initiate), just one of those things that feels inevitable when it happens as they’ve both been spending time apart and prioritising other people and realising they’re actually happier that way. That would make sense if everything I have said up to this point is how it happens. Of course it could be more dramatic, but I think either way it will be emotional and end with them hugging it out.
After that…I don’t think we have enough to go off for any solid theory. But what I personally believe is that there will be a very dramatic confession scene for Mike and Will. I’m talking like Max’s running up that hill scene level of drama. Flashbacks and everything. I just think there will have been way too much build up and if they’re going to go for Byler, they really need to commit to it. I think it’s going to be one of them trying to save the other's life.
I obviously do think they will have quieter moments after though—maybe this is when they kiss. And I truly don’t believe El is going to be heartbroken over Mike and Will. I think by the time anything happens between them, El will have come to terms with how incompatible her and Mike were. I am of the belief that El likes the idea of Mike more than she actually likes/wants Mike. I don’t think she will struggle to move on once she realises this. Honestly I kind of hope the three of them can laugh about it in the end because that would be so healing to see.
That’s how I see it generally, but like I said I leave room for myself to be proven wrong and I’m always open to different interpretations (especially about Mike). Also, I don’t really see it as a love triangle? I mean it is one, in the technical sense. But I think that implies Mike is going to be ‘choosing’ between Will and El, and I really don’t think that’s the story here. I think for Mike it’s a story of realising it’s okay to be who you are (in a general sense and about his sexuality), and with that comes accepting who the right person for you actually is. Hope this answers your question!

finn wolfhard and why he himself is proof of byler (why his interview answers are like that)
Tumblr media
i’m sure you’ve heard that finn can’t play a straight character, so it would essentially just make sense for mike being queer, endgame proved. obvi 🙄 (joke) (but rlly funny cuz the streak must go on)
anyway, finn wolfhard has been in the industry for years, and one of the things that separates him from other actors is his love for the entire filmmaking process. he’s so involved in all the projects that he works on, and it’s great to see a person so passionate about something, and also be able to deliver on it. this is one of the main reasons why i believe that finn 100% knows the ending of stranger things, at least pertaining to mike wheeler, and has been in the know now for a while (i’m talking end of s3 so since 2019). this ending reveal would be important for him to know for his character, because it explains why mike is acting this/that way. i mean, think about it, if we are all right about mike’s queer coding, finn has to have known the motivations behind his character while acting. if there’s one thing that finn can do, it’s keep a secret for the sake of the storyline and he’s doing a fantastic job.
during s3 press, he got asked tons of questions pertaining to melvin, which is a given, considering they just reunited in s2 and fans are excited to see what they’re like as a couple. viewers go onto watch the show and they take notice of a definitive shift in mike’s behavior. at his worst, mike is rude, hurtful, and obsessive. fans are starting to hate mike (lol just wait til s4). in summary, finn’s character gets reduced to being el’s boyfriend who is a bad friend. but we know the ending of s3, and what finn most likely had to have found out in order to portray mike in that way. there’s more to it!
s4 press and his interesting answers (the proof)
- at the premiere, he was asked what’s in store for milkvan. he goes onto say that they’re both discovering things about themselves.
- in the well-know hair chair, finn gets posed the question ‘what’s going on with mike this season?’. he replies saying that mike’s trying to “keep on a normal path” and be as “normal as possible”
- upon getting asked a byler question, specifically about what would happen if mike were to know about will’s feelings, finn wolfhard stated that he thinks there would probably be a mutual understanding and acceptance
- in the post-volume 2 cast interview, the interviewer wanted to know finn’s perspective on where he thinks mike and el’s storyline is going. he responds with basically “i’m excited for the ending of the show and to see which characters leave hawkins (smalltown boy theory) and stay. as for mike and el, it’s hard to tell, but i just hope they both find happiness”
- in a lot of the press, he emphasizes on how good the ending is that the duffers wrote (keeping in mind that the duffers stated it would be controversial)
Tumblr media
all answers hint towards what we suspect: milkvan bones, byler endgame - with no explicit statements, yet he’s really just laying it all out.
to tie this into his upcoming panel (yay!), he doesn’t do this often, and he could very well never come back to do it again, so please try remaining respectful in the questions you ask. he is not going to spoil, so don’t try getting him to do that. is he secretly a huge byler super fan? no, he doesn’t get like that with ships, especially of his own, but something he truly appreciates is good writing, so of course he’s going to be on board with it and care about it if it’s going to be given the proper story and wrap-up!

I just love your work!!! Brightens up what is otherwise a crappy, boring day!!
Now I have a request (I’ve been wanting to write this myself but my day job and real life get I the way)
The reader/Y/N (whatever you call it) is a Byers so had to go to California and is in a relationship with Steve. For whatever reason he couldn’t come to you when Mike went to see Eleven and you couldn’t come to him (better excuses than Nancy and Jonathan’s) so when the van appears in Wheeler’s driveway, she gets out of the van (slightly after the others do which has Robin comfort Steve when he thinks she’s not there) and then she appears and there’s lots of running into each other’s arms as they reunite and you can go on from there! Hope it makes sense!!!!!
I love this! And of course, I can’t find the gif I wanted to use where she’s rubbing his back, but I’ll use this instead cause poor baby looks sad.
Tumblr media
Five months.
Five months and 2,000 miles apart is an awful thing to deal with when you’re separated from the love of your life.
When you, your mom, brothers Will and Jonathan and El moved to Lenora, California after the events at Starcourt Mall over the last summer, you were heartbroken.
You didn’t want to leave Steve Harrington.
Steve, who’d been your boyfriend for over a year at that point. You’d never been away from him and your heart was absolutely crumbling when you left.
It had been the longest five months between October and March, which was currently spring break. While El and Mike wrote letters to one another, you and Steve constantly talked on the phone—much to your mother and brother’s annoyance.
“If I have to hear, “No, you hang up first!” one more time, I’m gonna barf,” Will complained.
Jonathan one time had went ahead and did it for you.
“No, I’ll hang up!” he said, with a cheerful smile, making you grimace.
“I don’t complain when you talk to Nancy,” you’d huffed.
“That’s because we have adult conversations, unlike you and Steve,” he’d rolled his eyes.
“Steve’s older than both of you. As am I, if I remember correctly.”
“This is why I choose to write letters,” El shrugged, unfazed by the arguing.
She was just happy that Mike was coming to California for spring break.
You and Jonathan hadn’t lucked out when it came to your significant others though.
Steve didn’t have enough money to afford a round trip ticket to California since his parents cut him off. He was working at Family Video and while that made him decent enough money, it just wasn’t enough to afford the ticket.
You couldn’t go to him because your mom absolutely refused for you to. Joyce Byers had been through a lot in the last couple of years.
Two years ago, Will had went missing, disappearing into an alternate dimension none of you had even been aware of before.
One year ago, she lost her old school friend and boyfriend Bob, to one of the horrid creatures from said different dimension. He literally died in front of her eyes.
Eight months ago, last summer, she lost Hopper. Someone you were sure she harbored feelings for. No one found him after the blast and the fire at the mall. He was presumed dead.
So you could understand why she prohibited you from going back to Hawkins. She was just terrified.
But when she went missing on a “business trip” to Alaska, El was arrested for assault of her school bully—you still wish you’d seen her click the girl, she deserved it and more for the way she’d treated your younger sister—and none of you could reach your mom, spring break turned into quite the dumpster fire.
Mike had arrived and enjoyed all of a half day with El before the roller rink incident and everything fell apart.
What happened next was so wild you thought you’d accidentally smoked some of Jonathan’s and his friend Argyle’s stash of weed—it was that crazy. In fact, you kinda wished it’d been a weed induced dream.
It involved secret agents then dead secret agents, when there was a shootout at your California home, Argyle freaking the fuck out, ending up in the desert searching for El and a woman named Nina and a side trip to Utah to visit Dustin’s girlfriend Suzie.
Between finding out Nina was a thing not a she, finding El in the middle of the desert, rescuing her and trying to aid in defeating a new villain that you and the others had no idea even existed up until this point, you were exhausted.
It was a long two days heading back to Hawkins. You were grateful to be seeing Steve, but you were worse for wear, tired and run down after everything you, your family and friends had experienced.
You fell asleep about an hour from home, missing the absolute chaos of what your town had turned into. You were told later about the huge cracks in the earth throughout the town, the line of cars you’d passed that we’re leaving Hawkins as you’d entered it, about the “earthquake” that had caused so much damage.
But in that moment, you were peacefully unaware, lost in your dreams.
Steve was just as confused as the rest of his friends when he heard Mrs. Wheeler’s comment.
“Did someone order pizza?”
“Pizza?” Dustin asked turning around.
He turned with Robin and Nancy, spotting a van—Surfer Boy’s Pizza labeled on the side.
His astonishment was as clear as everyone else’s when he saw who all stepped out.
Mike.
El.
Jonathan, Will.
A boy with long black hair, a visor and bright, mismatched clothes followed.
His eyes scanned to see if there was anyone else in the van and he was sure his chest broke open when he saw no one.
Where were you? Were you okay? Did something happen to you?
Mrs. Wheeler ran to greet Mike, hugging him tightly.
Dustin bounded toward Will and El, throwing both his arms around his long missed friends.
Nancy flew into Jonathan’s arms, embracing him tightly.
At least the others were happy, Steve thought as he fought a frown, walking back to the car trunk they were previously loading with boxes. He felt Robin’s hand on his back, patting it lightly. Even without words, he knew she was there for him.
An unfamiliar voice—which he figured belonged to the stranger—spoke behind him. He didn’t turn around, not paying attention. He bent to pick up another box to put in the trunk.
You woke to Argyle’s smooth, relaxed voice.
“Hey, sleepyhead. We’re here.”
You opened your eyes, seeing the familiar view of the Wheeler household. The van was now empty and you rubbed your eyes quickly, standing up so you could get out.
That’s when you saw him, back turned to the van, in his regular Levi’s and a blue sweater that looked amazing on him, even from the back.
His heart skipped a beat when he heard a familiar voice.
“Steve?”
He turned around, seeing you still standing in the van, having yet to step out. You looked tired, but also like you’d just woken. Your hair was flattened a bit on one side from where you probably rested your head against the window. But you were the most beautiful sight to his eyes. At some point, the box fell out of his hands, landing in the driveway on its side and he was running towards you.
“Steve!” you exclaimed happily, a smile breaking out on your face.
You leaped down, running towards him until he scooped you up in his arms and you were being spun in circles. You were too happy as you hugged his neck tightly to care about being dizzy. He was real under your touch, all soft hair and warm, sun kissed skin.
“Oh my god,” he breathed, as if he couldn’t believe you were real either, “When I didn’t see you come out of the van, I assumed the worst.”
“I fell asleep,” you smiled sheepishly, “Argyle woke me up.”
“I’m just so glad you’re okay,” he said, grabbing your face in his hands, kissing you hard.
When he pulled away, you wrapped your arms around his torso, snuggling into his chest. You weren’t going to let go anytime soon.
“From now on, I’m not letting you go anywhere. You’re stuck with me, baby.”
And that was completely fine with you.

people are so weird. Mike is a character who went through a huge trauma at a young age (I hope I don't have to explain to you how traumatizing it is to lose someone important to u? look at nancy, joyce, hopper, etc.) many people question his trauma because "he only knew El for a few days so it couldn't be that serious " but apparently it was? apparently it was since he sat in the basement day after day for almost a year talking to himself out loud pretending that she heard it even though he knew full well that she was dead, the scenes of him calling her always ended up showing Mike who thinks that what he is doing is stupid but he still can't stop it, he feels like he is losing his mind but is afraid to ask for help. Even though he had known El for a few days, it was serious enough for him to fall into such a mental disorder - just look at him in s2: a 13-year-old kid, totally not paying attention to his appearance, wearing old dirty shoes (look at max in s4, she always paid attention to her shoes, well not in s4 and guess why?) in random clothes that he wouldn't wear on his own if he cared (a sweater that everyone loves ) he started to be mean to adults (teachers, parents) it was hard for him to find time for friends even though he had plenty of it, he just didn't have the strength or desire for it, he forgot that he had plans, he was doing worse at school and much more - do you think this is what a healthy person looks like? no, this is a person who literally begs for help but not with words because he can't find the right ones.
the way he behaves in s3-4 didn't come out of nowhere either. Listen, Eleven's return was literally a miracle for him, she was dead, right? and suddenly she's next to him, safe and sound, the problem is that he's not. Depression can't just go away, it's a mental illness, not a bad mood. But he did everything, literally everything he could, to make her believe that everything was ok, and honestly? he really wanted to believe it too, he wanted it to be like that, he wanted to have a normal, happy life and she did too, and besides, they both deserved it, right? and they almost succeeded, at the beginning of s3 we see that it led to the fact that they became very close to each other, it was difficult for them to function without each other, we literally have a scene where Mike (already late anyway) leaves El to go to his friends and she says that she wants to be with him (they spent the whole day together). well, they were 14 years old, in their first relationship and they really wanted everything to be perfect - and it was for them until they encountered an obstacle.
I won't describe the entire course of their relationship in s3 because that's not the point, I'm talking about Mike's behavior because many people don't understand his "obsession" with her in s3. I will explain it to you using the example of Lucas: imagine what hell he is going through his head right now bc of Max who's in a coma, okay, let's assume that it will last about a year (and it will literally destroy him mentally) and then suddenly a miracle will happen - a real miracle, because Max will not only wake up, but she will be 100% fine (she will be able to walk, see, etc.) Lucas will gain hope for a chance - a chance for them to have the happy normal life together that they deserve, and for some time it will be like that and then lucas will start reliving the old nightmare over and over again like in hell :every time Max will say "it's okay, don't worry, trust me, I can do it" and then every time something bad happens, she will be the first person to risk her life for others, and always, I repeat ALWAYS, when Lucas wants to explain to anyone that it is terribly stressful for him, that he does not like it, that he doesn't want his girlfriend to be a target, and the only thing that he wants is a plan that doesn't endanger her life - then everyone will say that Lucas is a sexist who only wants to control max like his little pet that can't decide for itself. Because this is literally Mike's story in s3 if u like it or not. He is traumatized and people are misunderstanding him.
now, very often I see people comment on his monologue saying "I understand that he's afraid of losing her, but that much? bffr, it's definitely about something other than feelings for her, he probably loves Will" but that's exactly what it's about, no, his character is not just about his love for her, it's about all the trauma that he hasn't escaped from, you may think he made it but the truth is that he still carries it inside because no one has ever helped him with that - every time he is happy with El something bad happens to their relationship and he has to relive this nightmare all over again, and it has gotten so intense that in s4 we hear something really terrible from him when he confess to Will - not only he is afraid that he will lose her because she will die, he is afraid that she is no longer interested in him, and they don't need any catastrophe or the end of the world for him to lose her AGAIN. This only confirms the fact that he is not in the best condition, in fact this kid is calling for help but in a way that no one can understand.
honestly, I don't care if u ship mileven or byler, but don't u dare tell me that if mileven will be endgame then mike is nothing more than a guy in love with a main female character because that is just not true.

I've heard people who ship m*leven say that bylers are weird because we preach El's independence but believe Will should end up with Mike, which is supposedly hypocritical because why aren't we showing the same energy towards Will and saying that he should be the independent one (because m*leven is supposed to be endgame and since we are so intent on how amazing El would be single, why is Will so different)???
Maybe it's because Will and El are different people with different narrative arcs???
El's arc is so much more about finding herself, which is why she should have the freedom to do that without a failing relationship to nurse back to health.
We see this in every season, whether it's El finally being able to dress feminine in s1, finding her long lost sister in s2, her ENTIRE arc with Max in s3 and her accepting that she's not the monster in s4.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
HOWEVER, Will already knows who he is, his arc is about accepting himself.
From s1 he is unapologetically himself. He is bullied for his bright clothes, it's suggested that he's known he's gay for a long time, in s3 he is the only one who doesn't care about the bullshit of growing up and is more happy being his usual nerdy self and of course in s4 it's obvious he knows who he is (Alan Turing presentation and so much more lol). He can't even lie to Mike in s1 ep1.
The one time he does lie is when he gives the painting to Mike and it's why Jonathan's talk with Will is so important.
Tumblr media
Will deserves to have his queer story line finished on a happy note because that's that's Stranger Things is about, finding hope in adversity and destroying social norms.
Because Will's story ending happily isn't him getting rejected by the love of his life, or him dating some random dude (there are going to be no new characters introduced in s5 and there's no one else for Will to date that we already know) who won't understand Will the way Mike does.
Will deserves a boyfriend that pays attention to him like Mike does and protects him like Mike does (even if Will is strong enough on his own) and works on being a better best friend to him.
Because what better way for Will to accept himself than Mike understanding and reciprocating his love, showing Will that his love was never a mistake, that he's not a mistake.
Well what about Mike, doesn't he get a say in this?? I could go on a whole Mike's arc analysis spree, but since this post is about Will and El, I'll keep it short. I think he already has had his say...

What's the most convincing proof that byler could be endgame (at least on mike's end)? My friend keeps talking about mileven and saying byler's unrealistic and that it's stupid and weird and I'm ripping my hair out because now Im starting to think I'm delusional, and I'm losing hope. help.
First and foremost I think you should maybe ask your friend why exactly they think it’d be unrealistic because while that is generally a worthless argument, in this case it’s also not even true. Just because mainstream media back then didn’t portray queer people and queer people getting their happy ending does not mean that they didn’t exist! Queer people have always existed and have always found love at any point in time!
Again, the only reason people think queer people didn’t exist or find love in the 80s (talking specifically about st now) is because the media didn’t portray it and because they had to hide it more than they do now. So that might be an argument to catch your friend off guard because Mike having internalized homophobia and hiding his sexuality is actually more realistic for the time period than him simply not being gay. It’s exactly this shame and hiding of one’s own sexuality that leads your friend to believe that being gay and finding love in the 80s was unrealistic! Your friend’s argumentation is rooted in a very close minded and simply uneducated view on reality so I wouldn’t believe them when they tell you you’re delusional!! If anything, they’re being delusional.
I think the smartest approach to convincing a milky of byler is generally to focus only on Mike and his sexuality first before including Will and byler. Getting your friend away from melvin and more familiar with the thought of Mike being gay beforehand will definitely make them more open to the idea of byler, simply because most milkys see Will as competition to El. They see us shipping byler as a threat to El as a character because they think we try to convey that Will is somehow overall better than El even though that’s of course not at all what we’re doing. Byler is just as much about Mike as it is about Will so explicitly showing the milkys the evidence of Mike being gay regardless of his feelings for Will is always better than jumping in head first with the connection to Will.
The familial parallels that Mike and El have are very convincing evidence that melvin never loved each other romantically because all the other couples have referred to each other as friends before. The Duffers are clearly aware of the fact that the friend zone does not exist! Being friends does not exclude having romantic feelings for each other and vice versa! You do not stop being friends once you fall in love! And that’s exactly why making Mike and El refer to each other as friends and family is such a big deal because being family obviously does exclude romantic feelings! And these familial parallels follow melvin around throughout the whole show! Both Mike and El literally make mental connections to each other and family within their kissing scene in s1!!! And of course there’s all the gay coding in dialogue, costume and set design for Mike but I can’t imagine that your friend believes that to mean anything so I’d probably educate them on how everything I’m film has a purpose first.
And an argument more in the direction of byler and not just Mike’s sexuality is of course the obvious fact that Mike treats Will differently than Lucas and Dustin. And why would that be if they’re all supposed to be just best friends??? Maybe try and point out specific scenes to back this up. You should also definitely try to show your friend Mike’s monologue and the boys meeting El in the woods plus the aftermath at Mike’s house side by side! Explicitly showing them that the scenes contradict each other will definitely do more than just saying they do.
And like, the most convincing byler evidence is really just the whole fucking show. I know that’s not super helpful but it’s the truth hahah
My best friend just finished watching stranger things for the first time and I’m working on a byler presentation to convince her which I might share here when it’s finished. It’ll definitely take a lot more time to get it done but I can definitely tag you when it is!

In response to your question about favourite Mileven moments, let me share a few of mine:
* Season 1: the first meeting — we know now that Mike was basically thunderstruck by El the very first moment he saw her, and the cinematography sets this up perfectly. The raging storm, the literal bolts of thunder and lightning as Mike turns his flashlight to El, the long holding shot of the two just staring rapt at one another. But it’s all the quiet moments in this season too. Mike shows such gentle patience with El, helping to establish and respect boundaries like privacy, making her laugh, making her feel safe. He’s so soft with her. He centres her and cherishes her from the start.
* Season 2: the reunion — even now, I cannot watch this scene without getting teary. We’ve seen the raw longing for one another from both Mike and El. He calls her every day, he never gives up hope; she visits him in the Void in lieu of being able to see him in real life, and they are living miserable half-lives apart from one another. The reunion feels earned, and the acting from both is off the charts. You see a million emotions cross both their faces as soon as they see one another. As the Runaway Max book says, all the “pinched meanness” that had been etched into Mike’s face for a year just vanishes in that moment. A close second is of course the Snow Ball. It’s so sweetly romantic, Mike makes himself vulnerable to El, they will learn how to slow dance together and that’s when you really feel that’s it’s the first of so many things they will learn together and from each other over the course of their lives. It’s soul mate energy of the sweetest, gentlest kind, and holds so much promise.
* Season 3: physical touch — I did not love S3, and while it’s not vintage Mileven, there’s still so much to appreciate. My heart was so happy just watching them being able to hang out, make out, spend time together. It was extremely necessary. But it wasn’t all hormones. This is where you notice how tethered they are to one another, their shared orbit. Even when nominally on a break, they can’t stop touching, seeking out one another for physical reassurance in moments of danger, stress, anxiety. Their bonds run deep, and cannot be severed.
* Season 4: the ‘I love you’ — I did have to suspend my belief slightly that Mike had never even written “love” in a letter, but the Duffers sold it to me in the end. I love this season for underscoring just how much Mike demonstrates his love for El, he’s very “show” but not yet “tell”. His love language of acts of devotion and physical touch are so very clear — a promise ring, a million letters, a handpicked bunch of flowers, zany outfit in El’s favourite colours. El is so excited to see Mike she can hardly breathe. They are so connected, tethered, in tune that being apart makes them lesser versions of themselves. It’s shown through the eventual “I love you” — Mike’s singular, unswerving, from-the-very-first-moment love uplifts El, it buoys and raises her, it gives her courage, confidence, surety to be her best self. It’s beautiful — their love is deep, binding (“I don know how to live without you “) and UNCONDITIONAL (“I love you on your good days, I love you on your bad days”). Unconditional love is so crucial to El, who has only ever known affection and positive reinforcement for her ‘magical’ accomplishments. The unwavering love of Mike makes her soar.
I literally could not be happier about where these two are at come the end of S4. Apparently, the OG groups are coming back in S5, and I live for Mike displaying heart, leadership and being the ultimate hype man for El. Power couple. Dream team. My OTP ❤️🫶🏻
OMG, I read this when I first woke up this morning and I still can't properly respond to it. This is beautiful. And all true. And I am dizzy.
I have always loved the way the camera zooms in and focuses on Mike after they find El. The Duffers did not do that on accident. Have you ever seen the script for that page? *SWOON* Please go find it and read it if you haven't - the Duffers had a plan from the beginning and we are enjoying the fruits of it!
I think that while S2 kept Mike and El apart for almost the entire season, which was so hard after seeing them together for all of season 1, it allowed them to have a relationship that is as epic and deep as it is, because, as you said, they are miserable without each other. It is incredibly clear that this goes beyond some silly crush. Their reunion also still makes me tear up to this day. THE ACTING. MY GOD we are so lucky to have Finn and Millie at the helm of these characters. GOD. I've never seen anything like it. That might be my favourite scene of ST period.
I am SOOOO with you about S3 - when I see people say 2 is the worst and 3 is their fave or second fave I'm like, what?!?! BUT I am so thankful for the Mileven it gave us, and how happy El was, genuinely happy. They got a few months to be together and make out and be normal happy teenagers and heal a bit from their time apart and I'm glad we got to see it! I wish we could see it more but I know, unless there's a flash forward epilogue, we won't get to see them just happy and settled again. So I treasure it.
You take on S4 - what could I possibly add?! You got it, boo. I agree 1 million percent. Your summary makes me want to end this reply and start writing fan fiction - which I'm literally going to do!
THANK YOU FOR SCREAMING WITH ME!

Hi! I love your account because I also adore Mileven. They're literally the couple that had been setup since ep1 season 1. It's a simple story written by the duffer bros abt El being the survivor of the secret govt experiments, her powers, and its supernatural other side creatures, and the kids who help her and the people she learnt to trust along the way.
It's a pretty simple story tbh but somehow along the way the fandom has become toxic from all the many demands and expectations of different shippers. And I'm also beginning to think the writing is also partly at fault; for not giving Will a proper character arc instead of just.... sad boi.
I think partly people just wanna see Will be happy and somehow some of them started pinning that cause of happiness to be only Mike and Mike alone--and that's why I said the writing is partly at fault, because its refusal to write Will to meet new people, to write Will be happier.
I've seen how you've been defending Mike and I support you since passion is also my biggest trait lol. But I hope you understand that these haters will never stop hating no matter what you tell them. You can explain it all until you lose your breath and they will never agree with you.
I'm in a lot of fandoms and I've learned that sometimes, just not listening to their hate gives them less power. Over time, I've actually begun to like the characters that I used to dislike before in various fandoms--maybe that's the way for it to go--maybe the more people experience things irl maybe the more they'll understand characters in stories. And that's usually how people end up saying stuff online abt some characters in past shows like "oh this character was so underrated, that character was misunderstood" -- but by that time, no one really cares anymore. It's an old show, the echoes have long faded.
There's a lot of things about Mike that the writers failed to explore, and that makes it so easy for haters to fill in the blanks. And this goes to a lot of the other characters too and no, i do not hate the characters. It's okay to admit that some writers are good at writing exciting plots, but not so much at character arcs
At the end of the day, it's a story that we're supposed to take pleasure in and find entertainment in and instead the wars and hatred from various sides are becoming a turn off from the fandom
And not to mention, there are usually lots of people who likes A Thing but are silent fans, compared to haters. Haters are loud even if their quantity are smaller and maybe that's why they're all you'll ever hear. It's easier to be loud when we like something compared to when we do like a thing.
That's all! Kudos!
Hello! Well, I agree and disagree with you. Of course paying attention to what they say gives them more power, you're right. But I also know that me saying anything wouldn't change at how they look at things, I am not doing it for them. I am doing it for myself. I am doing it to vent. I am utilizing this space to support a character I love by giving valid points, to share the other perspective in contrast to the popular one.
Also, I do not blame the writers or makers for any of this. First of all, the character arcs. For a show like this where you get very little time to show the personal lives of the characters, I think they have done a very good job in developing their characters properly. I mean sure, you may think that they didn't, that's your point of view, but I don't agree with that. Secondly, about Will having a love interest, to be honest, he hasn't been able to come out yet, he hasn't been able to accept who he really is yet. Also, even Noah knows that he has just entered high school, he is a shy kid and it's the 80s, so it was more difficult to come out than it is today. And along with that, you are in love with your best friend who also happens to be your sister's boyfriend, that's even more complicated, so if anything comes out that affects 3 people. The story is still left, so I guess we have to see if there is a reason why they have not given that scope to Will. But then there's Steve also, not a LGBTQ character, he has not been able to find love after Nancy either, he still has feelings for her. But people don't find that problematic? Why not? The other day, I finished watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine and the bisexual character there, Rosa, chose not to settle down in the end when all the rest of the people were settled down/married and had become parents and found the usual 'happy ending'. Do you think that the writers did that intentionally because they wanted to show that she doesn't deserve to be happy? No.
So it's not the writers' fault, they did what they felt is right for the character, for some reason. If anything, they kept it realistic, because not everyone has it so easy in life. I don't know why that's so shocking or surprising to so many people. I mean if wearing a blue shirt, standing in front of a closet and so many more such things make people decide that these are all related to the sexual orientation of a character that is not anyone's fault, it is what they wanted to see. If they think Mike lied in his monologue, can you really blame anyone else for that? If they read too much into everything, then they are willingly choosing to be disappointed. And when things don't happen the way they want, they start creating drama over that.
Seeing how things are getting misinterpreted, misunderstood, and misconstrued and then being used against the characters just makes me angry. And I merely vent here. That's all.
But thank you for being so nice! Maybe someday I will get tired of venting as well. But till then, I would always stand up for Mike.

Hey lovely, saw you are looking for ideas and i kind of have, which is a bit detailed but idk ?!? Would toally appreciate if you do this!^^ so basically Eddie x Reader wigh powers, where reader is El's "sister" ( she came vack with her in s3, wheb El returned to Hawkins) but is close to college age. She is super smart and has tattoos, becomes aslo like Steve 2.0, plays DnD with the kids. She meets Eddie when surprising the kids by picking them up from school (maybe she came back from college) 1-2 weeks before the whole Eddie event and from then on you can pick it up ^^ of course Eddie has to end up with the girl of his dreams and survive!!
Sorry it was long, plz don t hate me, i truly love you and can t wait to read more stuff from you!!!!
a/n: Thank you anon I won't kill you anyways enjoy.
pairings: Eddie Munson x reader
Warnings: tattoos (is that's even a warning), slight mention of alcohol, a lot of flirting, I think that's it let me know if you catch anything else.
About: You are 19 years old and El's sister. You go back to Hawkins with El to help out. Your powers are element control and invisibility (kind of like Violets from Incredibles) you meet Eddie when you pick up the kids from school let's just say he finds you attractive like super sexy and hot.
Tumblr media
y/n Pov:
I went to the school to pick up the party because Joyce asked me to, so I could surprise them, so I was like yeah okay sure. As I pulled up to the school, I see a really cute boy wearing a Hellfire shirt coming out of the school with Mike and Dustin. Then I see El and Will oh yeah and don't forget Max with El laughing about something and Lucas with Jason. El sees me and starts running I hop out of the car and hug her. The cute boy and the party start walking my way. "Hey hot stuff" "hi" is all I could say because yeah. "Who might you be?" "My name is y/n, who are you?" "Eddie Munson at your service." "Will I be seeing you around more." "Probably but don't bet on it" "Nice tattoo" "Oh, thanks"
Tumblr media
The party gets in my car, and we drive to Mikes basement. They want to play D&D so I'm like why not.
Eddie's POV:
Damn she was hot. like wow okay how can one be so damn sexy. and her tattoo was badass. anyways I have to head to mikes so we can play D&D. As I drive my van, I see another car outside of the house. Mrs. Wheeler lets me in, and I head down to the basement and see y/n again. "Well, if it isn't Munson" "Hello to you to beautiful." "Hey Eddie stop flirting with my sister." "Sorry El." "El it's fine I don't mind." okay was not expecting y/n to say that. Time flies by and I have to head home because it's getting late, I go to open the basement door Steve is on the other side with Nancy wheeler he looks horrified. "Guys there is a huge problem." "What's the problem Harrington? your still single." y/n actually laughed.
No one Pov:
Everyone sat around the table in Mikes basement, and they said something about a weird spider looking thing killing people. "Mind flayer" both Eddie and Dustin said at the same time. y/n was confused like deeply confused so El being the good sister she is caught y/n up. "Wait who is trying to kill Wil land all of you?!?!" She was not happy. Eventually Eddie calmed her down and they stared at each other for ages or what seemed like ages. They all ran to the Star court mall where Billy was waiting for them. Before al that happened Eddie and y/n did get along, but y/n was scared to open up because she loved someone, but he used her, that bitch is going to die if El ever found out. Let's hope she doesn't. (a/n: I hope she does, poor y/n she deserves to be loved). They all ran in and thought of a plan. Dustin and Eddie are trying to figure out what time it was when they got here and what time it was when the mind flayer would be at the mall. Y/n interrupted and was like "Assholes the answer is 9:30 P.M" "okay so your hot, you have tattoos, and fucking smart." "Yeah, got a problem?" "No just makes you look even hotter." "Guys" Steve yelled "stop flirting and hide it's 9:25" They both blushed and ran and hid. It was time to put the pal into action. El walked up to y/n and said, "I know what happened between you and Ryan." (a/n: Rayan was her Ex sorry if you are a Ryan, you can change the name if you want) "Look El I'm fine, I'm over him I like someone else now." "Oh, you mean Eddie< don't you" "What pfft no, why is it really that obvious?" "Yes, everyone can see it."
(a/n: Okay time skip till a little bit after the battle where Billy is supposed to get stabbed. If you don't understand watch S3 of Stranger Things) The party all are about to celebrate when y/n sees El on the ground and the mind flayer about to kill her. Y/n doesn't know what to do because Bily is standing their trying to protect El. Y/n in thankful, but she can't let Max's brother die. So, for the first time in a long-time y/n uses her powers turns invisible and destroys the mind flayer and Billy and El don't die. (a/n: I'm sorry I couldn't let Billy die after he just turned good, he doesn't deserve that) After all of that y/n runs to Eddie and they both kiss. "I thought I was going to lose you y/n" "aww was Eddie scared" "yes, a little bit and you never told me you had powers" "well surprise, surprise" " uh y/n I was wondering if you would like to be my girlfriend?" "I don't know Eddie only if you want to be my boyfriend" "Yes, I would" "then yes to you to" "hey Eddie" "Yes Princess" "I need a drink after all of this" "Oh yeah for sure" "great then let's get wasted". Let's just say Billy and max are getting a long better and Eddie and y/n got wasted and had some fun.
(a/n: Hey I tried my best sorry if it's not good enough anyways let me know I there any other stories you want me to do. Btw: It is my first time doing a request.)

F & L for the fanfic game please, hope you're having a lovely start to your weekend :)
F: Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
She holds it in front of her, eyebrows furrowed, and Will reads the question on her face without thinking. “Mistletoe,” he explains. Her expression does not change. “You hang it up for Christmas, and if two people stand underneath it, they’re supposed to kiss.”
“Why?”
“Uh,” Will starts, then pauses, looking around at the others for help. “I don’t actually know. It’s just—that’s what you do.”
“It’s bad luck not to kiss under mistletoe,” Dustin says.
“It’s also poisonous,” Max adds conversationally. El shoots her a wary look, holding it as far from her as possible. “Only if you eat it though. So don’t eat it.”
“Yeah, and that one’s plastic,” says Mike.
“Okay, so definitely eat it, then.”
“Don’t tell her that!” he snaps, glaring at Max, before turning to back to El. “Don’t eat plastic.”
El looks at him with patient but exasperated eyes. “I know jokes, Mike.”
“Yeah, Mike,” Max says, “she knows jokes.”
“Yeah, Mike, what’s your problem?” Lucas adds.
from please have snow and mistletoe
party bonding!! i love this little piece so much because a) we really, really don’t get enough of the six of them all together, just getting to be kids and friends and hang out and b) i think it captures all of them in a quick moment. will immediate trying to be helpful, dustin of course knowing all of the mistletoe #lore, max being antagonistic and teasing, especially towards mike, mike being overprotective and a little infantilizing, but out of the goodness of his heart (and also being sick of max’s shit), el a little annoyed but still calm, and lucas always ready to jump to his gf’s defense. it just makes me happy to think they probably have tons of these moments where they’re just :) friends :))))
L: How many times do you usually revise your fic/chapter before posting?
i write things really out of order/all over the place, so i end up rereading a lot during the writing process and doing a lot of editing as i go. when the piece is fully finished, i usually do one full, final read through/edit before posting (two if i use a beta, one before they read over it and one after). and then i inevitably reread it a couple days after i post and find a million little mistakes anyway
fanfic ask game!
