One of my favorite things about Michael's sad little speech is that little Laugh/gasp thing. I like to think of it as a laugh as "A Oh God why did I think I could do anything?" kind of laugh. "They thought I was you" and why did he think they wouldnt? Why did he think he was going to just storm in there and fix everything? Now with his attempt to be a hero his attempt to be something more than the YOU they thought he was, Michael has doomed himself to a fate worse than death. And isn't it all so funny after all the shit Michael's gone through to die pitifully in a puddle of his own blood, gasping with lungs that are no longer there?
And now stuck in that pitiful broken body all that's left for him to do is find William. Michael ruined any chance of being anything other than that YOU. He can never grow old never have kids never live his own life. He can never move past Michael Afton the boy who killed his own brother because he thought it would be funny prank to put him in a bear's mouth...

Oh so you're a fan of Elric of Melniboné?! Me too! I've always found him to be a intriguing character. There were rumors some time ago of a movie or show based on his saga, but then nothing has happened.
Yes! I'm convinced without Elric we wouldn't have the Targaryens. Every time I watch House of Dragons and Matt Smith shows up as Prince Daemon (especially in black armor and dragon helmet), I kept thinking of Elric.
Tumblr media
Both Melniboneans and Valyrians are intriguing in how ancient and alien their society and culture were, not to mention how both civilizations were doomed even before the stories began.
The Elric of Melnibone saga is unapologetically the male gaze of the Byronic (anti) hero. He's the Lord Byron's romantic tragic heroes -over the top and outrageous, melodramatic, bombastic, and extreme. Most of all Elric is a tragic figure. Tragic in the classic sense of the word in that a flaw in his character will ultimately lead to his undoing. Each stories lead him closer to that inescapable fate. The tension of his stories comes from his know knowing his tragic nature and us, the readers, hoping against hope that he can overcome his fate.
So I'm not sure a movie is possible unless they take major liberties. Plus, Michael Moorcock didn't have the best storytelling execution and Elric end up barely a character, he more of an embodiment of violence with the personality of a decadent, 19th century romantic aristocrat, adventuring through bizarre, psychedelic dimensions. Elric has proven to be a more interesting concept than execution. That said, if they do make a movie can you imagine the first time Elric draws Stormbringer and it comes to life and begins to howl and shudder in his hands? And once that dark, sentient sword shaped being punctures its victim's skin, the shrieking soul is sucked out to satiates the sword and infuses Elric with much needed vitality. If somebody succeeds in making a movie, Elric would be glorious as the ultimate anti-hero.

Chapter 3
Cato gets to join in on a practice sesh of Bardic Inspiration! It goes great!
Virtue sips at their coffee as the TV broadcast plays. “Notorious villain The Disparaged Baron has finally been apprehended by A-Class hero Brass Dagger. While their fight left many without a place to sleep, many more will no longer have to fear for their lives. The Hero Agency of America has offered to help rebuild those who had their homes destroyed. My name is Daven Blockett, and this is the morning news.”
The TV then shows a short video of the end of the fight. Disparaged Baron, dressed as a Musketeer, runs at Bronze Dagger with a thin sword. Bronze Dagger sidesteps the charge, and throws Baron up 20 feet into the air. There’s a glimmer as Dagger throws something, and the footage cuts to the main news desk.
“I can’t imagine doing that.” Airael walks into the living room and sits next to Virtue on the couch.
“Doing what, Hero work?” Virtue asks as they take another sip.
“I guess. I mostly mean getting involved with Powered fights.” He clarifies. “I know my Power would technically be classified as Consumption, but it still gives me an exponential boost to my physical limits. Which means that if I got involved with a fight, no matter which side I was on, both villain and Hero would try and get me out of the picture first.”
Virtue nods along as he explains. “I couldn’t even imagine what they’d do to Gemini if she got into a Power fight, or Absinthe if they-” Virtue cuts themselves off, not wanting to finish the sentiment. Airael understands, though, and sighs.
“This shit sucks.”
“More than I could imagine.”
Gemini wanders in with a piece of toast, and she raises an eyebrow at the now glum mood of the living room. “Did the kid get into a car accident? What’s with the mood?”
“Powers.” Airael says. Gemini takes a big bite of her toast, and takes her time chewing it as she thinks over the implications of that word.
Gemini swallows, and stomps over in front of the TV. She faces the pair on the couch with a sharp glare. “We can get back to the doom and gloom of our life later. Absinthe has everything set up, so all we need is Kid Strings to get his ass over here. So get your asses in there right now.”
Virtue stands up and drains the rest of their coffee. “You’re bad at pep talks.” They note, and Gemini whacks them.
“Yeah, but I got you going so I win.”
Airael gets to his feet, and wraps Gemini up in his arms. “You’re right, we gotta go make some kick ass music.”
Virtue turns off the TV and moves to the emptied out master bedroom that has become the practice space of Bardic Inspiration. Absinthe is taking out her old beat up electric guitar and leaning it up on the wall. Everything else has been set up, there’s sheets of music that Michael left behind on the one and only table in the room.
Absinthe turns around and lights up. “Oh! Hey V, didn’t see you there.”
“Most people don’t.” Virtue shrugs as they make their way to the chair put up just for them. “It’s a gift.”
“Man, what I’d do for that.” Absinthe groans.
“For being unnoticed?”
“For having a gift.”
The familiar heavy click of the front door opening cuts through the conversation before Virtue can make a response, and they hear Gemini welcome whoevers at the door with a saccharine voice. Airael mutters something, and the voice of Cato responds monotonously.
Three sets of footsteps start to make way to the practice room, and Absinthe starts to move around.
“V, he’s here, oh my god he’s here, we get to play together, I can’t believe it, can you believe it? I’m so excited, you have no-” She cuts herself off as Gemini, Airael, and Cato show up in the doorframe. “Hi!”
Gemini slides into the room as Absinthe rushes forwards to greet Cato. She shakes his hand and drags him inside, making a wide gesture to the humble setup. “Welcome to where the magic happens!”
“Uh, cool.” Cato mutters as he steps out of Absinthe’s grip. His eyes flick around, first to Virtue, then to the drum set, then to the electric guitar harmlessly sitting against the wall. “You guys, uh, already have a guitar.”
“Told ya.” Gemini elbows Cato’s ribs, making him flinch. “We didn’t know if you only had an acoustic or not. There’s also some music for the songs we’re gonna practice today on the table, if you wanna look through them.” She gestures to the handwritten sheet music, and walks behind her drum set and drops down in the seat. She grabs her drumsticks and starts to idly rap them on the rim of the snare.
Airael makes his entrance quietly, and struts to the purple and gold bass on the stand next to the drums. As he slides it on, he glances at Cato. “Last chance to jump ship, kid.”
Cato’s hand twitches, and he storms to the guitar and slings it over his shoulder. “I’m not a kid. You guys aren’t that much older than me.”
Virtue raises an eyebrow. Airael turns around and shrugs, looking bored. “We’re all out of college, and by the looks of it you’d barely’ve started if you went. Kid.”
The pair lock into a staredown, with Airael betraying no emotion in his eyes, while Cato’s are laser focused in to catch anything. Gemini stifles a snicker, and her green eyes light up with amusement as she catches Absinthe’s eye.
Her eyes dart between Cato and Airael, and wiggles her eyebrows with a large grin. Absinthe almost chokes as the laugh tries to escape her mouth, but she holds it back. Gemini and Absinthe try to hold it in, but it’s too much, and they burst into a fit of giggles and laughter, causing Airael and Cato to stop whatever they were doing.
“What’s so funny?” Cato asks, hands gripping the neck of the guitar.
Airael whips his head around to Virtue. “What did she do?” He asks with wide eyes. “What the fuck did she do?”
Virtue looks at Gemini, who tilts her head forwards and does an overexaggerated wink, causing Absinthe to break down with laughter. Virtue sighs, and pats Cato’s shoulder. “Don’t worry about it. They’re like this sometimes.”
They look back to see Airael now leaning over the drums and talking to Gemini, who’s grin has gotten larger as she shakes her head. Absinthe is leaning on a wall, trying to catch her breath, but sometimes still releasing a few giggles. They sigh again, bring their thumb and pointer finger to their mouth, and whistle. The band jump at the sudden noise. Airael clutches his bass, Gemini holds her drumsticks in an ‘X’ in front of her, and Absinthe takes an absurd looking fighting stance. Cato takes a step back.
“Get to practicing. We don’t have all day.” Virtue says, and they make direct eye contact with each band member. “And we certainly don’t have our guest here all day either.”
With that, Absinthe jumps into action. She double checks that Airael and Gemini are all good to go, and makes sure that the guitar Cato’s borrowing is in tune and works fine. Once everyone is set to go, she connects the microphone and takes out the piece of paper that has the practice “schedule” on it.
“Uh, it says we’re practicing ‘Truth or Dare’, ‘No Regrets’, and ‘Sandcastles’ today. Why does it say ‘Sandcastles’ in there, that’s a piano solo.” She looks back at Airael. “Rae, you wrote the list.”
Airael shrugs. “I thought that having your best song for our guitarist would be a good idea.”
Cato mutters something about not being a guitarist while Absinthe looks at the scribbles with narrowed eyes. Then she crumples up the paper and throws it at the table. “Okay, we can do that. But let’s start with a quick runthrough of ‘No Regrets’. We didn’t play that at the last venue, so I want to see what needs some work.”
Cato flips through the stack of papers, and his eyes flick over each page with the same sort of focus he gave Airael. Then he runs forwards, drops them on the table, and runs back into place.
Gemini raps the beat with her drumsticks, and then she and Airael jump into a hard and fast rhythm. She leans forwards into the microphone set up over her drums, and screams.
“OH MY GOD THIS REALLY FUCKING SUCKS! I STILL LOVE YOUR STUPID FUCKING MUG! GOT HIT BY A FUCKING TRUCK! AND YOU’RE HERE STILL GIVING FUCKING FUCKS!” Her voice is guttural and animalistic as her hands move wildly across the drumset. She holds the last vowel as the bass and drums stop and the sound drops away.
She closes the word harshly, and restarts her playing; albeit, more restrained. Airael joins in at the same time, playing the low and slow baseline as Cato takes a deep breath, and starts playing with everyone for the first time.
He plays incredibly well, and although the melody he plays on the guitar is different from what Michael played, it still fits well with everything else. But Virtue already knew that Cato was good, they knew that he would fit in with the band sonically. They’re waiting for Absinthe to sing.
Absinthe looks at Virtue, and nods. She rolls her shoulders back, stands tall, and opens her mouth.
“I cried alone again today.” Her voice is the winter sun cutting through the abyssal surrounding darkness. “It’s hard to heal this heartbreak. I’d rather have loved you here, but you decided to disappear.”
The weight of grieving a love and friendship suddenly lost shoves its way into Virtue’s chest as the words lilt off Absinthe’s tongue. Cato jolts, but doesn’t stop playing as he moves his eyes to look at the singer.
“Hey, it’s me, it’s about us. You said we’re still in love. And I cry curled in my bed, about the last text you sent. Who could have guessed that this is how our story ends?” Even through the waves of heartbreak and sadness, Absinthe smiles as she lowers the microphone. Gemini and Airael play their parts with the anger they’ve always infused them with, and Cato moves his fingers across the frets. He plays a dissonant melody, counteracting the smooth major that Absinthe had been singing. Absinthe’s grin gets larger.
As they continue through the song, it’s a constant fight of three emotions. Anger, from Gemini and Airael, grief, from Absinthe, and desperate confusion from Cato. The sound gets louder and louder, everyone fighting more and more, until Cato suddenly strikes a power chord, and the drums and bass stop. Airael and Gemini are looking at Cato with curiosity as Absinthe brings the mic to her lips one last time.
“I hold no regrets.” She sings lightly. “You were my best friend. But this is the end.”
There’s a still, anticipating moment. The air holds its breath as the last of the grief fades into acceptance, and fades into nothing. Absinthe breaks the silence with a ragged gasp, and she rubs at her eyes for a moment before looking at Cato.
“Are you sure you don’t want to be our guitarist?” Her voice is no longer crystalline, but instead thick and heavy. Her fingers pick at the edge of her skirt and the jeans beneath it.
Cato takes a moment. He looks at Gemini, then Airael, then to his own hands holding a guitar that isn’t his own. “I- uh.” He stammers, and clutches the guitar tightly. “I, I think so.”
A shuddering weight is released from Absinthe. She grins, nods, and turns to the rest of her bandmates. “Cool! So I think we did really good at the first few verses, but at the second chorus we accidentally got a little lost in the middle of everything and it took some time to get back, so let’s start around there.”
Virtue huffs a laugh and shakes their head. They knew, of course, that Cato would say yes. Absinthe is the golden apple just out of reach, the clear water you’ll never drink, but just knowing it exists is enough to sate an appetite.

top 10 tv shows i’ve seen this year:
(in no particular order)
Andor. I was expecting nothing from it, but this is the best thing that ever came out of Star Wars to the point it excedes its confines. Andor is a slow burn that has you stuck to your seat before you know it, it has the most beautiful dialogues and every characters are so compelling.
Abbott Elementary. I’m late to the party but that sitcom left me happy, and light, and cares so much about its characters, and is so positive despite talking about an elementary school that basically is abandoned by the US education system.
Staged. A weird british show that is more brillant that you’de expect. Got into it for David Tennant and Michael Sheen’s banter, stayed for the hilarious use of the fourth wall, especially in the last season.
The Bear. The Bear is about a chef that drops everything to go take care of his brother’s restaurant because he just died and left it to him, and it is raw, and it feels so real that you forget you are watching a tv show, and the performance are incredible, and i just loved it???
Single Drunk Female. It’s a silly show that deals with alcoholism without triavilizing it or dramatizing it, and it’s funny as hell, and Sofia Black-D'Elia kills it and I hope she gets the recognition she deserves.
Severance. Go watch it. Right now. Severance is a show that is just starting to get popular but MY GOD is it good. Severance is about a world where you can choose to forget about your time at work, therefore creating a ‘you’ outside work and a ‘you’ inside work that remembers nothing but work. It is not a huis-clos but it feels like one, there are very few characters but all the actors are killing it, and the plot twist had me screaming at my screen at 2am. I never wanted to watch a season 2 this badly before.
Our Flag Means Death. The love story is everything, the humour really kicks in for me, it did took me one or two episodes to truly being seduced but oh boi did it succeed. Gay pirates stuck in a satire that make me cry? it’s everything i like in a comedy.
Doom Patrol. I started watching Doom Patrol again after having forgotten its existence for a year, and damn did i binge everything i missed! And the last season, that is still ongoing, is ever better than the last. Doom Patrol is the best thing that came out of DC comics. You gotta love the absurd, but if you do, you’re gonna love everything about it. Doom Patrol has a lot to say, and it says it well, if you can go appreciate the butt jokes in-between.
Interview With The Vampire. That is no surprise to anyone that follows me. I was never a fan of the books, and yet the show pulled a perfect adaptation in that, for me (don’t come @ me) it made the story good where i didn’t think the book was. It is about the most toxic relationship ever though, so beware.
Star Trek: Lower Decks. Star Trek comes out with very solid anime lately (unlike their tv shows.......) but lower decks is still the funniest, most aware of itself, and connected to its roots ever. The four main character are just so loveable, no matter how much they mess up, i love them, and i love that the show just keeps getting better.
Honorable mentions: Reborn Rich, SAS Rogue Heroes, The Legend of Vox Machina, The Sandman, The Resort.
Shows that haven’t made the cut because I haven’t seen them yet: The White Lotus, House of Dragons, 1899, Cyberpunk: edgerunners, The Midnight Club, Pachinko

Oliver may be gone, but his mission endures. That mission lives on, Oliver lives on, in the people he inspired. Some will take that mission to the rest of the world...maybe even beyond that. For five years, I have had only one thought, one goal: survive. Survive and one day return home. The island held many dangers. So You're Disappointed in Loki...Now What?
Okay folks, if you were expecting Loki to be queerer and weirder and you're disappointed in what it's turning out to be...consider checking out these other superhero/sci-fi series (if you haven't already).
Tumblr media
Legion (2017-2019) - This show has a real retro-future aesthetic, similar to Loki. (Although Loki's drawing more from the 1970s and Legion draws more from the 1960s). Anyway, Legion is also a show about self acceptance and self-love. It's not *just* about those things; it's also about mental illness, what makes someone a "good person," and how we deal with trauma - with a bit about sexism, racism and colonialism thrown in there. And it is a weird show. Each season key parts of the reality of the fictional universe change - and always in truly bizarre ways. And there are a few canon queer characters too.
Tumblr media
Sense8 (2015-2018) - Sense8 is a Netflix series written and directed by the Wachowski sisters and J. Michael Straczynski. It's about eight people around the world who are telepathically linked - and about the evil international corporation/agency that's attempting to capture and control them. Their telepathy is a metaphor for the internet - but also about found family. And there's an element of self-love in here as well. Of the main characters - Nomi is a trans lesbian & her cis girlfriend is Amanita, and Lito is a cis gay man & his boyfriend is Hernando. Eventually pretty much every character ends up being queer, though, because this series is just queer-as-hell. Unfortunately, this series also hits some really tired racial stereotypes and has way too much sympathy for "good" cops.
Tumblr media
Doom Patrol (2019-Present) - Season 1 of Doom Patrol ends with a giant rat making out with a giant cockroach. What I'm saying is, this show gets weird. There's a sentient street, a man who eats beards, a narrating villain named Mr. Nobody, and an episode that takes place largely inside a donkey. And that's just the first season. Our heroes are all anti-heroes; they've all got major character flaws. But they're also all dealing with a lot of trauma, and they end up saving the word a few times while dealing with it. Of the main group, Larry is gay. Then there's also Danny - who's a genderqueer sentient street, plus pretty much everyone who lives on them is queer. This show's got a lot about self-love and self-acceptance, but also about the responsibility we have to care for each other.
Tumblr media
The Umbrella Academy (2019-Present) - Another show about self-acceptance and the responsibility we have to care for each other. Also, each of the heroes all have pretty serious character flaws, which they either ignore or work to overcome. They're also all dealing with trauma (specifically from being raised by a complete asshole). There's time travel and a time agency and the siblings are constantly trying to avert an apocalypse. The second season in particular deals with racism and homophobia (to varying degrees of success). Also, two of the siblings are bisexual. (And Netflix updated the credits to change Elliot Page's name which is kinda great).
ETA:
Tumblr media
Somehow when I first made this post, I forgot to post the obvious:
Ragnarok (2020-Present) - It's a teen drama + what if Norse gods were real and lived in modern-day Norway. It's a bit of a coming-of-age story but also the bigger theme is to do with climate change and evil corporations. It's a Norwegian production with a Danish showrunner which gives it a different perspective than I'm used to seeing (I'm in the U.S.). It's a fun series with some real silly moments in it. Oh and also Loki's here and queer.
ETA2:
Tumblr media
Cannot believe I also forgot this:
DC's Legends of Tomorrow (2016-Present) - This is a show about a bunch of time travelers who "screw things up for the better." The first season is rough, mostly because it took itself too seriously and Vandal Savage was a rubbish villain. So you can skip it and maybe read a wiki for continuity. But trust me when I say it really picks up in season 2. One of the strengths of this show is how the writers take what could be problems, and using it to flesh out themes and ideas (i.e. the frequent changes in the cast). It gets real meta and a bit weird, but in a CW-friendly way. So it's got some heavy themes, but also a lot of silliness. It also has a lot of crossover with the other CW Arrowverse shows, but honestly it's completely understandable on its own. Queer characters include (but are not limited to): Sara Lance, Ava Sharpe, Charlie, Constantine (huzzah finally), Gary, and Zari.

Yuu and the House of Mouse; The...Great Seven?
It’s been three weeks since Yuu has worked at the House of Mouse.
Headmaster Crowley decided that going would be a great experience! He graciously gave you permission to work there! (Just don’t forget to do your homework and get a good rest after; he doesn’t want you to be lagging behind your classes after all!)
At the House of Mouse, you eventually learned the ins and outs; and you’ve gained everyone’s attention. They like you a lot! You have this, “If I talk to you about my problems you’ll listen kindly and either give me advice or continue to let me vent out my feelings” vibe.
Being a (sort of) therapist must have helped, huh?
You yourself have a few favorite guests that you can always look forward to seeing;
Tiana and Naveen: You hit it off when you first met. Something about their dynamic and allowing you to vent about back at Twisted Wonderland gave you good vibes about them. They’re polite guests, and they have given you advice on how to improve your work. Tiana has (once) invited you to work for them if you wanted to work at another job, but you tell them that you have school. They’re immediately concerned, because someone going to school working at a job with very demanding and colorful characters? You assure them that you’ve manage to balance school and work, however they seem less than convinced. Though nothing big changed, they occasionally remind you to take breaks and to have fun watching the cartoons on screen when you’re not busy waiting tables. (They also give you candy from their time! Butterfingers, anyone?)
Hades: He’s a frequent guest at the House of Mouse. You had lent an ear to his complaints, and then again, and then again, and soon enough you’re his personal therapist. You’re the go-to waiter whenever Hades shows up; much to the delight of the staff (The penguin waiters are...a little scared of Hades). It’s surprising how little he seems to reflect Ignihyde. He’s like a shut in extrovert. However, when you tell Hades this, he becomes very interested in your world. He’ll let you ramble about what you know about Twisted Wonderland, and he’s going to make smug comments about it. After that encounter, Hades starts conversations with you that isn’t just complaining about his siblings. In fact, he’s one of your pep talkers when you’re feeling stressed or down.
The Darling Siblings: If you don’t recognize them, they’re the siblings from Peter Pan! (Wendy, John, and Michael) When you first met them, they acted very polite. And they gave “children, protect them” vibes. As you continue to work, you discover that the children had a more playful side to them. You could easily joke with them and in exchange Wendy would tell you stories or John and Michael would tell you about their recent adventures.
Scrooge McDuck: Donald introduced him to you, actually. He mentioned, “Since you sound like you’ve been on a lot of adventures, I think you might like to share stories.” How right he was. Scrooge’s stories were captivating and enchanting, you’d always be on the edge of your seat hearing them. Whenever he swung by and you were on break, you two would be swapping stories of your lives. He was most interested in your first day story; about the magical chandelier specifically. You always look forward to a new story he would have.
Of course there were others, but the ones listed above were the people you loved seeing.
Today was a typical night in the House of Mouse, though everyone seemed...a little agitated?
You ask Mickey, and he explains that there was a reservation for a villain get together...and last time, it went poorly.
You offer to serve them as a waiter, since you’re sure that you can handle it.
“Are you sure?” “I’ve dealt with worse characters...I think. By the way, can I get the list of who’s going?”
You find out Hades was the one who reserved it (oh thank goodness, someone you’re already familiar with. And he likes you)
He’s also bringing - “I’m sorry, can you repeat that?” “The Queen of Hearts, Scar, Ursula, Jafar, The Evil Queen, and Maleficent.” “I-“
Imagine your shock when you find out Hades is bringing all of the Great Seven. You’ve already met Maleficent, but someone like the Queen of Hearts, or the Beautiful Queen??? You’re ready to walk to your doom right now.
When the doors open, you go about your night as usual, though your on edge as you anxiously wait for the Great Seven to arrive. This would be the first time you would be interacting with most of them.
When they arrive, you greet them and take them to their table, doing normal procedure.
However, things go south when Hades asks Yuu to come and have a chat with them when they go on break.
“yeAH suuurrreee-“ “Great! They have a lot of questions and I think they’d like to hear what you have to say!”
Yuu is making high pitch dying screams when she gets to the kitchen.
“Oohhhh my god, they want to talk to me. What if I mess up? What if they dislike me and then try to kill me? Oh no oh no-“
Yuu is trying not to scream in excitement and stress as Mickey excuses her to talk with the Great Seven.
The meeting? It goes well.
When they ask about their world, Yuu describes their time at NRC, and how the villains were praised as good people, and were known as the “Great Seven”.
They were very intrigued about this, and would always puff up when Yuu praised them. They also ask questions about Yuu as well!
What? They’re villains, but they’re not rude.
They listen to your tales, and are sympathetic to the idiots that you surround yourself with. They get it, they are also surrounded by idiotic, self centered heroes who think they’re in the right- (projecting much?)
The Queen of Hearts is a lot more than you expected; she’s strict, but she also has good humor (as long as you don’t mock her). When you ask what kind of tarts she likes, she responded with “Any kind of tart, however jam filled tarts are one of my favorites.”. You wonder if she’d like the tarts Trey would make.
Scar...isn’t talkative, though he seems very pleased when you talk about what NRC thinks of him. He’s actually kinder to you - you’ve heard stories from Goofy and the penguins waiters that Scar is hard to please.
Ursula is what you would call a sweet talker. Kind of like Hades, but you can tell that she wants something. You indulge her, answering any questions about your world. She seems particularly interested in the rivalry between NCR and RSA, however.
Jafar wants to know everything about Scarabia. From it’s current standing to it’s history. You try your best to explain as much as you know about the dorm; but you mention that your information is limited since it wasn’t your dorm. He’s satisfied with what you give, but Jafar tells you that next time, he’d like to know more. You better go study up on Scarabia now :) (Or ask Kalim or Jamil about Scarabia)
The Beautiful (Evil?) Queen acts smug, and she seems relaxed around your presence. Maybe it’s because you told her that she’s known as the Beautiful Queen? She wants to know who is housed in her dorm, and like Jafar, she wants to know everything about Pomfiore. When she heard about the VDC, she asks multiple questions about it. (“When the VDC comes around, maybe I shall grace everyone with my presence...hmm, or should I help NRC’s team? I mean, they would represent me, of course.”
I’ve actually mentioned that you have met Hades and Maleficent in this ask
Hades and Maleficent consider you as friends (maybe not close friends, but friends nonetheless)
The rest of the Great Seven also have positive opinions on you; and they try their best to live up to your expectations! They can’t have you turn your back on them after you openly praise them!
You’re dragged away from your job - instead you focus on entertaining the Great Seven! (Which was fine, Pete was at it again by trying to drive out the guests; you kept the Great Seven in so they could still run the show!)
As the night went on, you felt yourself getting less and less nervous about being with the Great Seven. You had loads of fun!
Of course the show ended sooner than you liked; and it was closing time.
“It was really wonderful to meet you! Maybe we’ll see each other again when the House of Mouse opens again?”
“Why would we wait for nighttime? I have a magic portal to travel to Twisted Wonderland whenever we’d like.”
“I’m sorry, what?”
Turns out Maleficent had an easier way to travel to Twisted Wonderland; but she gave you a sparkling gem. She told you that when she gave everyone (The Great Seven) a way to travel to Twisted Wonderland, they’d surely visit you. With the gem, it will sparkle and shine a certain color when they do.
The color? Well, of course it would be the dorm colors! It would be easier that way, would it not?
So, in the near future, the Great Seven would be able to visit you.
What do you think? You’re not against the idea; but the idea of one of them showing up during class is going to be a nightmare.
Oh well, future you will worry about that.
You thank Maleficent and go about returning to your world.
Before you get to the mirror, Mickey stops you.
“Hey, I just wanted to thank you for making sure the villains stay, it was a lifesaver and you saved our show.” “No...problem?” “Haha, our club would’ve been toast if they left! Thank you again!” “...Your welcome?”
And then you departed from the House of Mouse, immediately crashing onto your bed. Lazily, you take a glance at your mirror, wondering when you’ll see the Great Seven.
Then you promptly fall asleep.

After Wilbur leaves, Tommy’s legs give out, and his panic takes over, feat. the rest of the Bench Trio. TW for suicidal ideation, massive amounts of self-loathing. Also, spoilers for today’s stream.
---
"What did you do?"
He falls to his knees, and for a few minutes, the world goes blank.
What has he done? He's doomed them all, that's what he's done. He let one of the only people that believed in him get killed, he failed in his mission, and now he's almost single-handedly released one of the biggest sources of pain and misery back onto the server. Any moment he expects some righteous punishment for what he's done: a cruel hand, the final blow from a sword, the divine arrow, another damn lightning strike, because why not? Why should he get to sit and cry like a baby when the whole server will soon suffer for what he's done?
The reason they had to kill Dream was just like Ranboo had once said: 'If the villains can come back, then what's the point in winning?' Ranboo, whose presence he can feel, vibrating angrily mere metres away. It's like when you agro an enderman; Tommy expects the hit to come, he wants it, he deserves it, because Ranboo was right! They can't win. Not anymore. All Dream needs is the body, and they can welcome back all those they banished to the other side. Wilbur was supposed to be gone. That was supposed to be done with. It can't be happening again. He can't be back.
His mind whirrs, trying for any solution to this mega-problem, no matter how outlandish, but it returns nothing. Wilbur defeated himself last time. They can't conquer the prison again; besides, Sam will kill him if he goes near it again. Sam, who helped him build Jack Manifold's (his, his, his) hotel, who built him a robot that helped him gather materials and work for himself and protected him and refused to hurt him. Sam, who nearly just took his last canon life several times, who told him he should be dead, who told him he caused all the problems at the prison, on the server, hell! Why didn't he kill him? Maybe the server would be safer that way. Perhaps Wilbur isn't the first villain Dream's resurrected.
He'll never sleep again. Partly because he has to find a way to stop this, has to put an end to everything even if it kills him, especially if he can take them all out at the same time. But also partly because that look Wilbur gave him, the fire that burns nations to the scorched earth underfoot dancing behind his eyes, already haunts his dreams. He already knows which words he'll hear when he tries to rest, which crazed looks, which gestures he'll never forget; he doesn't want that. He wants to sleep in peace, without the ghost of a villain returned beckoning "Let's be the bad guys." and "Why not?" and "My hero, Dream!" The roles have reversed, the blackstone table has turned.
"You wanna be a hero Tommy?" He thinks he'd rather have died one than become... whatever monster stares back at him in the glass beneath his feet. Glass that protects the crater of a nation. A nation that he died twice for. That caused so much pain and strife. That ultimately was razed so far down that the earth will never forgive its creators for painting upon it a target so large and flammable. It was never meant to be, indeed.
And he cries. The tears make tiny 'plinck, plinck, plinck' sounds as they hit the glass, forming a small puddle as the once-proud soldier puts his head against the grave of his home, and himself, Prime knows how many times, and sobs. The ground is unforgiving, the silence carries his weeping out to sea. He shed tears like these for Wilbur once. He wants him back. He wants to go back to the Void. And with a whole server of people about to wake up to the news of the impending chaos in the form of one persuasive former president, he doesn't think it'll be long before he returns. He wants to go back to the Void, and play Competitive Solitaire with Wilbur forever, and maybe, just maybe, that'd be enough to give his friends the peace they need to build lives in the shelter of the shadows. In the runoff and the rubble, they could grow old. And maybe they'd mourn him occasionally. He doesn't see the point.
He doesn't deserve their love anymore. He's fucked up. He's fucked up, and he should pay the price. He should march up to Wilbur, and kill him, and die in the process. But if they both woke up, what then? Who knows how many canon lives zombies have anyway.
He doesn't deserve kindness, or love, or affection. He watched the sweet, innocent ghost be slaughtered because of him. A man he might've accidentally called 'father' should've killed him. Ranboo, dear Prime, patient, forgiving, compassionate Ranboo stared at him with eyes full of disappointment and betrayal and anger and stormed off. He doesn't deserve anything but his ruined city's sky, not anymore... But he wants it. Needs it. Needs it, or what is there left?
So when Tubbo stands at his side, his scarred face barely reflected in the glass, he doesn't compel him to leave. When he kneels and puts an arm around Tommy's shoulders, the younger boy does not ask for Wilbur's end. And when he is scooped up in arms that no longer tremble, he does not try to escape. He merely buries his face in his best friend's coat and waits. Waits to be let go. Waits to be thrown from the clifftop. And somewhere along the journey, he blacks out again.
---
"Would you?" "No, but-" "Exactly! He's fucked up, we can't-" "We can't just abandon him, he's my T-" "The whole server'll be out for blood within the week! We can't hide him here!" "Why not? We have basements, and secret rooms and tunnels and-" "They'll find him, Tubbo."
Ranboo puts his hands firmly on Tubbo's shoulders, staring right into his eyes. Tubbo freezes, as people often do when eye contact is maintained. They're silhouetted in the doorway, haloed by the light spilling in through the ajar curtains. "They'll tear this place apart if they think they'll find him here. We can't do that. We can't let them do that."
"But-" "Michael. That's who you're putting at risk if you do this. People'll tear Michael's loft apart if they think we've hidden him up there, you know they would! They'd frighten the life out of him." Tubbo puts his head in his hands, quickly wiping his hair back from his face. "A life for a- a life. That's what you're saying, basically. They'll kill Tommy. No question." "They'd kill Michael too!" "Would they? Who the fuck is this 'they'?" "Literally the whole server- Look, I haven't been around here as long as you have, alright, but I know enough. They'll come for Tommy, and they won't have mercy for anyone caught in the crossfire."
Tubbo looks up at his husband for a long time, his expression becoming guarded while his posture straightens. "You're right. People don't care who they hurt around here; it's all means to an end. But-" And his eyes dart towards Tommy, Ranboo's following, and while Ranboo looks shocked and maybe a little embarrassed to see Tommy awake, lying awkwardly dumped on the guest bed, Tubbo's expression doesn't change. "-I won't leave him. I did it once, and it was the worst damn choice I ever made." He sighs, taking Ranboo's hands and staring down at them while they speak. "I don't know what to do, truth be told. I won't let anyone hurt Michael, and if they want to try then perhaps I should get back in the nuke lab. But Tommy's a part of my family as much- as much as you are." His eyes flick to Tommy, and the barest hint of a smile appears. "Looks like it's us against the world, again."
He leads Ranboo with one hand into the room as he sits beside the mute, exhausted form of his best friend. His best friend that leans into the arm he puts around his shoulder and tries not to start crying again. "Us against the world." Tubbo repeats. "And I ain't leaving you behind."
Tommy looks up at Ranboo, who's staring at him with an impassivity that borders on scary. "Did I tell you you have mesmerising eyes? Because I actually think they're very intimidating." The enderboy's face softens. "Where did you find him." He asks Tubbo drily as he also sits on the bed, the other side of Tubbo, who smiles. "You'll have to-" He cuts himself off. "You'll have to ask Wilbur." He says softly.
"Don't sacrifice yourselves for me." Two heads snap in Tommy's direction, and Ranboo tries to answer first. "Oh, well, we weren't exactly planning on-" "I mean like, your happiness." He quietens again. "Don't lose lives, don't jeopardise Snowchester because of me." "How about you let me decide what happens in my nation." Tubbo's voice has regained some element of its smile. "You focus on surviving, alright Big Man?" "Don't- Please, don't let me ruin all this. Again."
‘I don't deserve your support. I don't deserve a place in your family. I don't deserve you.’
"You deserve another chance."
They make no promises in the half-dark. There are no agreements made over the steaming teapot. There are no settlements reached as the minutes tick by, and nothing comes of the quiet hours spent by a warm fireplace. But there are enough things said in the silences to fill the whole house. And even if Tubbo can't make his best friend fall asleep anymore, he can still hold him close somewhere that maybe, once was, once could've been something like a home.

I'm reading some Shadow comics I bought on Comixology forever ago and had never gotten around to - originally I was going to mention I read the Howard Chaykin feature in "The Shadow #100" and that his version of that guy indeed sucks real bad. However, the chapter after his by Michael Uslan? I'm obviously not that well-read on the character, but this simply MUST be the most bonkers Shadow story ever told.
Oh God, THAT story. I know which one you’re talking about because I only just recently saw that it was written by Michael Uslan, which put a lot of it into perspective. I don’t know if it’s THE most bonkers Shadow story ever told but it’s definitely a runner up for the most comically absurd
To briefly summarize it to those of you who don’t know of it: The story starts with the Wayne murders except The Shadow kills the mugger before he shoots them. While he’s telling the dad “Bruce Thomason” (lol) how he’s going to repay him by one day performing a mission unquestioningly, he gets unreasonably pissed off about Bruce the kid telling him he recognizes him from the radio show, and then he points the finger at the child and swears that he will put an END to this and,
I don’t think Uslan understands just how funny it is the idea of The Shadow dramatically declaring war on his own radio program, I’ll post the sequence below because it’s super fucking funny
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You’d think that he would do this by telling the producers or writers or the owners of the radio station to stop producing The Shadow radio show, or maybe just file a lawsuit and C&D but no, he goes on about by, of course,
Cornering Orson Welles in an elevator (even shouting YOU! when he enters it) and telling him to quit the show and use his talents for something else, and then we get this exchange
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After basically telling him to get fucked and do it anyway, he dissappears, and then Orson walks outside and overhears a newsboy shouting about something Hearst did, and then he reads the paper and wonders aloud “Hmm...rosebuds?” and then the final panel is him looking behind him as The Shadow’s laugh appears.
...............................
Okay so, I don’t know if you’ve ever read any of the other comics Uslan’s written with pulp characters or Detective 27, because this shows up a lot in those too. He reeeally likes historical references and takes a lot of detours to include them into the stories. And sometimes it’s a little neat, sometimes it’s unintentionally kind of funny, and sometimes it’s pretty obnoxious, and it happens a lot, like entire plot points devoted to in-references (the climax of Dark Nights hinges on a superweapon powered by Blue Coal).
And this story is definitely the worst offender in that regard because the whole thing only exists as an excuse to tie The Shadow to Orson Welles and Citizen Kane because Orson voiced him on radio. It’s not the first time a Shadow comic devoted time to a storyline based on the radio show and Orson Welles but it’s by far the goofiest of the bunch, and it’s already a goofy excuse for a story.
Tumblr media
(I generally don’t like to be too negative on Uslan’s stories, but man he writes a terrible Margo, and the bar is not very high as is)
And yeah, Uslan has a tendency to write The Shadow’s dialogue and character like he’s paging Doctor Doom. I kinda get where he’s coming from in that he knows that a big part of the character’s appeal hinged on him being the hero with the charisma and personality of a villain and dialogue-wise The Shadow is already closer to the way characters like Doctor Doom or Magneto talk, than the way Batman does. I thought Dark Nights had a pretty good characterization for The Shadow overall, but in this story and in Justice Inc he reeeally pushes it overboard to the point of self-parody, you can almost hear the Doctor Orpheus musical sting everytime he talks. I think it’s more funny than anything but it doesn’t particularly help the story’s more serious moments.
A similar thing happened in Dynamite’s Masks 1 and 2 which was crossing over dozens of pulp heroes, all of whom were basically interchangeable in personality except for The Shadow, who was extremely committed to his catchphrases and pithy quotations, and to never stop being the most extra motherfucker of the room.
Tumblr media
QUESTION: If memory serves, a while ago, in a story teaming Green Hornet, Kato, the Spider and others, you said you really enjoyed scripting the Shadow's dialogue in particular. What is it about the Shadow that makes him different from other noir characters?
Chris Roberson: With those other “masked avenger” pulp types, their masked identities are an act, at least in part. Underneath the hat and mask they are regular guys with relatable motivations. With the Shadow, the guy in the hat and scarf IS the real guy, and his motivations and feelings are largely kept from us. When we see him in his “civilian” identity, THAT is an act.
So there’s a kind of brutal simplicity to his dialogue. He is what he appears to be, and says exactly what he means.
Tumblr media
While obviously that story from #100 is completely batshit and I’m not particularly a fan of Justice Inc exaggerating him into Shadow the Hedgehog to make Doc Savage more of a boyscout (which tends to happen in crossovers with the two), I mentioned before that I’m not really adverse to The Shadow’s overdramatic antics being played for comedy. I do like bringing up some of the goofier stuff that was in the pulps, or the radio show. I keep telling you guys that The Shadow can be remarkably funny even in otherwise serious stories without breaking character.
He’s gotta have a good sense of humor to be laughing all the time like that.

A Fan-%#&#$-tastically Good Story
A Reading Guide to Marvel Comics’ Loki
Tumblr media
This is an updated version of an old post that was getting a little unwieldy to edit. Same caveat as the original post: this isn’t every appearance of Loki in the last fifteen years, but it’s pretty dang close! I’ve tried to focus on trade paperbacks with the most commonly listed author, to make it easy for people to find them.
Part 1: 2007-2015
Tumblr media
Thor by J. Michael Straczynski (volumes 1-3)
Thor, now king of Asgard and wielding the Odinforce, is returned from the void after Ragnarok. He decides to bring back the rest of the Asgardians and establish a new Asgard floating above Broxton, Oklahoma, but Loki has plans of his own –  or rather, her own.
There’s a lot in these, but particularly there’s a good amount of time devoted to Loki’s origin and how he came to be adopted by Odin. I highly recommend these! They’re quite good, and if you’re new to the Marvel Comics universe (if you’re coming from the cinematic universe, for example) it’ll give you a good idea of who the characters are and how they fit into this world.
Tumblr media
Thor by Kieron Gillen (Complete Collection) and Siege by Brian Michael Bendis
With the help of Norman Osborn’s Dark Avengers, Loki works to bring new Asgard crashing down – but the heroes bring chaos that not even Loki is prepared for.
Thor: The World Eaters by Matt Fraction
In the wake of the siege of Asgard, Thor misses his brother. Oh, and Galactus wants to eat Earth or something.
These are transitional, and there’s a lot less focus on Loki overall, but I still recommend them. Siege is a big Avengers crossover event, Gillen’s book and Siege contain the end of Old Loki, and World Eaters contains the beginning of Kid Loki. If you want to skip them, the next entry in this series will recap them.
Tumblr media
Journey Into Mystery by Kieron Gillen
The complete(ish) adventures of Kid Loki. The old Loki is dead and in his place is a new Loki: a child with no memories of his predecessor’s evil. But Asgard doesn’t trust him, and old Loki left behind plenty of schemes. Some crimes can never be forgiven.
If you want these in paperback and you can afford it, there is a pair of lovely and sadly out-of-print omnibus books, but for the rest of us peasants, there are five volumes to keep track of:
Journey Into Mystery: Fear Itself
Journey Into Mystery: Fear Itself Fallout
Journey Into Mystery: The Terrorism Myth
Journey Into Mystery: The Manchester Gods
The Mighty Thor / Journey Into Mystery: Everything Burns
Tie-ins:
The Mighty Thor by Matt Fraction (volumes 1-3) -- While Loki and Leah are doing their own thing in Journey into Mystery, Loki’s having some adventures with Thor on the side, as well. If you want to read about them, this is where to find them.
Tumblr media
Young Avengers by Kieron Gillen
Loki schemes to manipulate a bunch of teenage superheroes into helping him regain his full power as the group is pursued across the multiverse by the sinister Mother: an extradimensional entity invisible to adults, who manifests as murderous doppelgangers of the teenagers’ parents.
At least digitally, these are available now as a single collection: Young Avengers by Gillen & Mckelvie: The Complete Collection (But one comic didn’t look that great so... enjoy the original three trade paperbacks -- the full collection has the same cover as the last volume, sans volume title.)
Tie-ins:
A+X 005 (collected in Marvel A+X TPB: Equals Awesome) -- Directly before the events of Young Avengers, Loki appears in issue 5 of Marvel’s one-shot crossover series A+X, in a teamup (of sorts) with Mister Sinister. I can’t find the trade paperback anywhere, but it’s just a one-shot side story and he only appears in the one issue, so unless you’re really invested in finding out the fate of Doom’s Loki clones from Siege or you want to read the rest of the Avengers/X-men teamups in the book, you can skip this.
Tumblr media
Loki: Agent of Asgard by Al Ewing
Loki makes a deal with the All-Mother of Asgard: for every mission he takes on for them, they will strike one of old Loki’s crimes from the books. Since the old Loki was reborn when Thor called the Asgardians back from the void, he has been scheming and struggling against the vicious cycles of his past. Loki has done terrible things to become the god he is today -- and now he is determined to wrest back control of his destiny and write his own story at last.
Or die trying... again.
Original Sin: Thor & Loki -- The Tenth Realm by Jason Aaron and Al Ewing
Loki takes a break from dealing with the All-Mother’s missions to accompany Thor on a mission to the sealed-off tenth realm to find their long-lost sister.
These are available as a single complete collection digitally (Loki: Agent Of Asgard - The Complete Collection), and I highly recommend it, as it also contains the relevant parts of the elusive Marvel Now! Point One 001 one-shot prequel comic (without which, the beginning of Agent of Asgard is rather abrupt.) Otherwise, if you want the three original volumes, don’t skip Original Sin -- it’s not recapped in Agent of Asgard, and without it the transition from volume 1 to 2 is very confusing. Think of it as volume 1.5.
Tie-ins:
Ms. Marvel 012 (Collected in Ms. Marvel Vol. 3: Crushed by G. Willow Wilson) -- (Takes place before Original Sin.) Loki makes some mischief in Kamala’s neighborhood -- and her love life! -- in the Valentine’s Day issue of Ms. Marvel. One-shot, can be safely skipped.
Avengers & X-Men: Axis by Rick Rumender -- The full Axis alignment-swap event. Relevant parts are included in the trade paperbacks for Agent of Asgard, but there’s more Loki content in the full event! It can be safely skipped.
Angela: Asgard’s Assassin (Collected in Angela: Asgard's Assassin Vol. 1: Priceless by Kieron Gillen) -- Loki has a brief part trying to help Thor hunt down their sisters when Angela steals Odin and Freyja’s new baby daughter, Laussa. Recommended if you liked Angela from Original Sin and/or if you’ve enjoyed the rest of Kieron Gillen’s work so far. If you’re just here for Loki, you can safely skip it, he ducks out of the adventure pretty early.
The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl 007-008 (Collected in The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl Volume 2: Squirrel You Know It’s True by Ryan North) -- Somewhere between the end of Axis and the end of Agent of Asgard, Loki helps Squirrel Girl trap Ratatoskr, the wicked squirrel-god of gossip – never mind that he’s kind of the one that let her out to begin with! While you can skip this one, I actually really recommend reading it unless you’re super not into SG. Loki gets a fair few more little teamups with her (including some that span multiple issues), Thors appear (in both Worthy and Unworthy flavors), and Ratatoskr stays relevant. It’s pretty easy to find single issues digitally if you don’t want the whole tbp. (Loki appears in the second half, in issue #8)
Tumblr media
Honorable mention:
Tumblr media
Thor and Loki: Blood Brothers by Robert Rodi and Esad Ribic -- In an alternate universe, Loki has waged war on Asgard and won, and now he must decide what to do with his new crown and his captured enemies. To secure victory for all time, all he must do now is execute Thor -- so why does he hesitate?
A heavy deep dive into Loki’s character, his past, and his relationships that, while not canon to the 616 comic universe, has greatly informed both the comics and cinematic adaptations of Loki. A piece of Loki history, and the source of a lot of common fanon.
-
I’ll link to part 2 when it’s finished. Until then, enjoy this updated guide!
I don’t know that I remember some of these well enough to give good content warnings for them, but I definitely remember Siege in particular having some brief but surprisingly extreme gore, so you might want to skip it if that’s gonna bother you. (And maybe World Eaters, if that contains the dream arc?) Tenth Realm and Asgard’s Assassin also both contain babies in mortal peril.

tonight’s writing process is trying to figure out a simple question:
What does The Magnus Archives look like without Martin Blackwood?
I don’t mean this as in “what if Martin had a slightly different personality” or “what if Martin was more of a minor character” or even “what if Martin died early”- I mean, what does TMA look like if you completely removed Martin’s very existence from the plot? No character to replace him, so Jon only ever has two assistants in s1. No character that has a storyline similar to his even as a statement. A world where Martin Blackwood just does not exist as a tangible person. Someone who’s never been born.
tl;dr: without Martin, there is no hope.
Let’s take it season by season.
Season 1: The absence of Martin means that there is no dog incident in the Archives, which is a tragedy in and of itself. It also means that although Jon feels pressure in his job, he doesn’t have an apparent and possible spy sent by Elias looking over his shoulder, and no one to take his frustrations about being wholly incompetent at his job out on. Most likely, Tim, Sasha, and Jon would all work exceedingly well together, truth be told- they all knew each other beforehand, and even if Tim and Sasha are still a little resentful of Jon taking a promotion that he should have recognized more rightfully belonged to Sasha, it’s not as though either of them have archival experience either.
No one bothers to go through the special extended follow up on Carlos Vittery that had [REDACTED] trapped for 2 weeks in his flat. Sasha is, therefore, still skeptical as to how dangerous Jane Prentiss really is, as she only really begins to believe after [REDACTED] begins staying in the Archives. This may make her less inclined to believe Michael, or give Michael less incentive to warn the Archives. For the sake of giving our heroes their best shot, let’s say that Michael still shows her.
End of Season 1 occurs. Sasha figures out the corkscrew method and helps unworm Jon. Ultimately she still leaves Jon in document storage to warn Tim, and Jon must sit, alone, waiting. Without [REDACTED] there is no stash of CO2 in the office, meaning that unless Sasha acts quick enough, Tim is almost certainly doomed. Sasha is still taken by the not!them. Elias has mercy on our erstwhile heroes and turns on the system early, killing Jane Prentiss. Tim Stoker just barely survives by the skin of his teeth.
Gertrude’s body is never found.
Season 2: Jon begins to have an extended breakdown about the existence of tunnels under the institute and all the horrors therein. Tim is out of the Archives for months afterward, needing to be hospitalized for the amount of flesh those worms managed to chew through and Not!Sasha makes sure to tell Jon all about how very wormy the tunnels are, and yes she’s been exploring, and oh no Jon don’t exert yourself, just rely on Reliable Ol Sasha.
When Tim comes back, he’s very much not right. Far more jumpy than he had been previously, sometimes searching for shadows that aren’t there. He tries to lean on Jon’s shoulder, but Jon’s been equally as uneasy and there’s no outlet for it. He begins having doubts about “Sasha” and Tim, who could be argued to be as “changed” by the trauma as Not!Sasha, defends her passionately, all the while “Sasha” seems to be drawing away from the both of them and Jon begins to feel alienated from Tim continuing to take Sasha’s side. By the time Melanie King breezes through and confirms that there’s something off about “Sasha”, Tim is feeling so isolated that even in rooms where he once shone as the center of attention, it’s easy to miss him. There always seems to be a heavy fog curling at his ankles.
Michael still stabs Jon, giving him the spiral mark. Not!Sasha attempts to make her move, marking Jon with the Stranger, and Jon manages to get her trapped in the tunnels by Jurgen. Jurgen attempts to explain and, when Jon goes to smoke, is bonked. Jon is not only blamed for the murder of Jurgen Leitner- when Elias says he “found” secret tunnels and, with officer Daisy Tonner, now partnerless due to a tragic incident in which many officer lives were lost at the site of (now-Dark Avatar host) Callum Brodie’s kidnapping, they manage to find the body of Gertrude Robinson. Jon flees into hiding.
Tim is alone in the Archives. Jon so far has been marked by: Web, Stranger, Spiral, Eye, and Corruption.
Season 3 - The Jon marking gets underway with many of the old beats and some newer ones, such as Karolina Gorka, take the place of marks that otherwise would have been handled in s4. Tim is slowly and steadily deteriorating. Melanie King arrives for her first day of work to an empty Archive with what appears to be the AC turned on just a little too high and absolutely no one to tell her what in the hell she’s even supposed to do, despite Elias’s insistence that Tim is still there. Basira Hussain remains deceased. Jon gains the following marks: Vast, Hunt, Desolation, Buried.
Elias admits to the murders after Jon finally marches back in to him, but no one can do a damn thing about it, and no one can pin the blame on him. No one can find evidence linking him to the murder and [REDACTED] can’t act as a distraction to let someone else find it. Elias will continue to pull the strings tighter and ever tighter. Daisy is no longer able to be blackmailed with Basira, but she is still able to be blackmailed by her considerable record of brutality and murder, and thus becomes Archival Assistant Number 3. Or it would be 3, if anyone could find Tim.
Jon is still kidnapped by the Stranger, but in the end that ritual is left to implode in on itself as Gertrude’s tapes were never recovered. Jon attempts, instead, to pull Tim, his last and final connection to those he knew, out of the lonely. Tim, hollowed out after the deaths of all those he loved and seeing Jon slowly slide toward monsterhood, disappears into the mists and is never seen again.
Jon leaves the lonely without Tim and Tim Stoker is, inevitably, found dead. It was a pathetic existence. He is marked by the Lonely.
Elias takes a nice vacation and lets Peter take the reins of the Institute
Season 4 - The psychological damage and the remnants of the Lonely are so great that Jon falls into an unresponsive state for months, which isn’t helped by proximity to Peter after his failed attempt. Oliver seals his fate with an end mark. The last remaining markings are gotten as usual, with Jon receiving the flesh mark after he manages to make it just in time for that time all that Flesh stormed the Archives. Melanie and Daisy manage to hold it all off with Helen’s help and business goes on as usual, with Melanie getting the ghost bullet cut out of her and giving Jon his slaughter mark before finding a way to quit the institute. Daisy becomes Jon’s sole assistant, and without the joining variable of the Coffin, they never get along.
Jon gains the following marks: Dark, slaughter, flesh, end.
Elias gives Jon the incantation himself and watches Jon end the world.
In the end, Jon never had a choice in the matter. No matter how futilely he tried to stop reading, he couldn’t. And as the Panopticon rose around him and he was left with no anchor to speak of, Jon must dully take on the mantle of the Archive, and tend to his very own ruined world.
I definitely do want to stipulate that I don’t think events would definitely and 100% play out this way without Martin, and there are other things that could substitute Jon’s anchors- if Tim followed up on Vittery, if Basira still lived, or if Melanie never left and instead she and he reconciled, or even the presence of Georgie staying because she knows Jon has no one else. But even in all those scenarios, you’d have to do a lot of work to fill the Martin shaped hole in the center of it all, and that was kind of what this was kinda meant to show vfjhbkjvf
In conclusion: Martin is, himself, a personification of all hope in the series. and that makes his fate a very, very frightening thing indeed.

Rewatch anon here, I'm at the end of S1 and this show's logic is taking a real beating, it's like they want to drag the mystery more but don't know how to do it properly so they're torpedoing every avenue for answers, the whole we just found a prison full of aliens who could tell us everything but they're blown up instantly is so lazy, the answer to a cell door cracking is to explode everything? Really? There weren't a hundred options before, and our heroes couldn't hack anything. And the whole thing with Noah dying is even worse, Max refusing to let Michael give him the antidote , even pulling a gun on him, like they didn't have any other option when ??? Neither of them have conditions prone to blackouts, they could've gotten the info then given him the serum to take his powers again or killed him or 50 other things, it all comes off as extremely lazy, there are so many ways they could've given us a few answers then done different mysteries. A story about aliens who don't know they're from has so many possibilities and storylines, it's like they don't want to commit to it. You can have well written characters and relationships and a wonderful overarching mystery and plot, dozens of shows have done it, Fringe, buffy the expanse etc... Nancy drew(which is a fantasy/horror but same diff) on the same network is doing it right now. Sorry to be ranting in your inbox, I honestly love scifi stories and they're so rare especially ones with this setting, I just keep feeling sad at all the wasted potential. p.s I'm also very much enjoying superman and Lois and If you want some other fantastic superhero shows, doom patrol and the boys are both really good shows.
Oh nonnie, I feel you, believe me! There's SO much cool potential in the set-up of this show, and we have all these amazing characters, I really hope that with Chris (who loves romance AND sci-fi), we'll see some more sci-fi elements woven into the fabric of the show, and with Mr. Jones, Deep Sky, and possibly The Alighting becoming involved, I hope we'll finally get some ANSWERS this season! I really want to know more about their home planet (which Chris has teased we'll see more of!!!), their abilities, and so on!
Superman & Lois is sooooooooooooo good, it's the perfect mix of family drama and superhero story, I love it! I'm also a HUGE Doom Patrol fan!!! I've tried The Boys, not my thing tho. But man, Fringe (one of my favorite shows of all time!!!), and of course, Buffy! During a recent rewatch of S1-3, I also became majorly hooked (again) on Star Trek Discovery, another incredible sci-fi show with a chef's kiss cast!
Fingers crossed, RNM S3 will be more eager to reveal new information, than to keep us in the dark, that it will focus more on one overarching mystery/main story instead of losing itself in several side plots, and that - as per Chris's writing preferences - we'll see 1. Character Development 2.Romance 3. Alien Stuff. In that order!
18 DAYS! 💚👽🧬🛸
