it's been two years since he died.

and I'm furious this morning because I canNOT find a place that will sell me a strawberry rhubarb pie, because he died 2 weeks before rhubarb is in season, which is oh so like him and unfairly funny and I suppose it's on me because I could have planned this better and ordered one ahead, but that's what I'm trying to do today and I just CAN'T

today is the anniversary of the last day we spoke communicated. he sent me a comic (Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal) and I just hearted it. I was tired from the doctor's appointments and planning and the cancer growing in my body and he would be there tomorrow to talk to.

and then he wasn't.

One day, I'll process everything that happened two years ago (tomorrow) to the point where I'll be able to do a stand up routine about it. I think that'd make him proud - not that he wasn't already - but that'd be something he'd be especially proud of me doing. Or a Moth talk. I'll make some kind of art out of it, because that's what I do. That's what he taught me to do.

I miss you, dad. and I'll find some kind of strawberry rhubarb pie, even if it kills me. Even if I have to make it myself.

So you've got a 14 year old alpha kid. If you know anything about 14 year olds you know that they're probably a punk in one way or another. Body is changing, brain chemistry is changing, eyes opening to the devastations of the modern world. No more rose colored glasses, no more happy sunshine.

They act tough because they don't want anyone to see their heart breaking inside, to see how scared they are/feel constantly. Put up walls because that's what they see other people do so, that's what they do too.

I don't think you'd need "bad" parents for this kid's emotional state to get overlooked. It's just like real life that way. The people around us aren't mind readers, and they aren't inside our heads. Even with the added layer of scents - the kid's parents wouldn't be able to know what the kid is thinking. And if the kid perhaps is prone to lashing out verbally, by seeking isolation, or by physical confrontation a tired parent might just "give them what they want" which is time alone, even when that's not really the answer.

Teenager emotions are often overlooked because they themselves often overlook them, they can't hold them, and they can't understand them. In an omegaverse au, sure I'd imagine this sort of thing happens all the time. I guess, if you're asking about true neglect/abuse I'd say a parent that was bent that way would be that way no matter what that child's dynamic was - except maybe their unkind behavior would manifest differently. Sure an alpha kid, "toughen them up" or "make a real alpha out of them" might look like flat out ignoring any of the child's softness, gentle emotionality, flat out ignoring any behavior that the parent doesn't feel "belongs" to an alpha. So if getting emotional in the crying sense is one of them, absolutely.

Unfortunately, maybe that makes this kid turn into an adult who only knows anger. Who only knows loud and argumentative and physical no matter what emotion they are feeling deep inside.
