i had said i had been hoarding random choreographies that tickled the Herb Brides Dance Bone for a while, so pasting them here now. not all choreographies are as close to a Herb Bride Vision of Dance as the others, not all choreographies hit in the same way or in the same amounts, some are only a lil bit Herb Bride Vision Of Dance in my mind's eye, some are a lot; some contain a lot of elements i can see as Herb Bride Vision Of Dance, some less... picking and choosing, picking and choosing. watching the choreographies, you can see for yourself what i can see in them.

my personal notes/#vision for the herb brides' dances:

not really the vibe:

codified/squared figures, such as ballet-inspired arabesques, attitudes, battements, heads held high, but also backward rolls, cartwheels, etc; but also electro/hip-hop-inspired "robotic" movements, sudden square stops as if to a beat. portés/paired stuff in general, unless it looks very organic (and only between brides who like each other a little). figures where the focal point is a tensed leg up or horizontal (so including arabesques and attitudes), or in general a single-footed somewhat-static stand (unless it is included, again, in a very fluid wider movement). floorwork, more specifically floorwork that is relatively static, or where the focal points is the movements of limbs as the body stays mostly in one place. focal armwork while the body stays completely or mostly static. any combination of figures that imply an audience (= all facing the same way)

yes:

footwork. lots and lots of footwork. almost-constant movement, pacing, steps big and small alike. armwork that accompanies footwork, or that seems to be used to facilitate a "flow" of the air (redistribution of the twyre pollens...). floorwork as transitions, as somewhat-crawling, as embracing of the earth. extreme fluidity in the movements of the upper body and arms. sudden changes of rhythms or pace. gestures that mimic or imitate natural phenomena (trees moving in the wind, waves, wind itself, grass dancing, etc). if static for a while, movement of the knees, upper body and arms instead of the feet. throwing of the self to the ground/floorwork done on the knees, incorporating steps/footwork. loose head/neck, as if fully entranced in the dance. whipping around of the hair.

from all of that ^ you can pick up what i see as Herb Bride Vision Of Dance in these choreography and what i don't... vibe with me... let's vibe

making this post as a reference for dances/gestures/performances/[...] i find relate to Herb Brides' dances In My Mind, as i do not think the soft swaying they do in canon really warrants clothes torn from their chests (but i also know how hard animating characters is, period, so i won't comment on that further.) takes this more as a long Herb Brides Dances Headcanon post (and also as a collection of poses reference...)

Pina Bausch's works, especially her choreography for Rites of Spring (done on a stage covered in dirt).

the dancers have very loose light clothing, so mind the toplessness.

Damien Jalet's works, especially his works for Les Médusés performance in the Louvre, particularly his "L'Évocation" and "Les Médusées" pieces.

L'Évocation:

it picks up from 2:20 and stays consistently powerful and strong until the end. this is the performance that's the most Herb Brides to me. everything, from the frantic dancing, throwing self on the ground multiple times, the slapping of the chest, the throwing of the hair, the heavy breathing, fits them so, so well to me. this is what i think they do.

Les Médusées (nonsexual nudity in images and video from the costumes):

you might have noticed from the similarities with above, Damien Jalet was the one who choreographied the dances of Suspiria (2018). These dances also fit into the Herb Brides dances of my mind (but since it's a horror movie, I won't put videos as most of them contain spoilers).

Isidora Duncan's body of work and legacy, both as formal inspiration for the dance itself and for the beliefs she put into her art (spirituality, freedom of the body and of movement, sublimation or the body and its holiness through dance)

in that order: Isidora Duncan, Isidora Duncan draw by José Clara, one of her student's Maria-Theresa Duncan, and one of her students' student Madeleine Lytton.

i'm particularly inspired by this video for a "softer" more subdued dance for them, even if the Herb Bride Dance of My Mind is not obviously not this structured and not this consistent/followed across brides, but i find it a good demonstration of the footwork & armswork within a fuller, longer choreography. i also adore this video because you get to see dancers of varied body types and ages
