Okay, so, I've been doing a lot of research on knights, ceremonies and what happens in them and HOW they happen and I immediately thought of Tarhos and Vittorio so under the cut is a lot of rambling and mostly just ideas on Tarhos and how he would have been sworn a Knight.
It’s by no means canon, but I think it’s fun to look into :)! if anyone has any more fun facts or history facts let me know, I really try and be accurate as a writer.
if i apply all my new knowledge - Tarhos seems like a late Knight who was sworn as such, for prestige and social status after many years without the title, since he was used as protection, this perhaps cost Vittorio money because becoming a Knight was extremely expensive so you’d have to really like the person to do it, especially at a late age. Tarhos would have had to be knighted between 16-18 years old for this to not make it ‘late”. Which maybe he was but seems unlikely to me. If he were born into Knighthood and was a squire from young, and had noble ties, as early as 12 years old, but he did not.
On who preformed the ceremony, he could have been Knighted improperly by a noble themselves, but these are usually more one on one, which could work but seems a bit unlikely in Tarhos’ case, unless him and Vittorio were even closer, which honestly... maybe.. Maybe it was improper and spur of the moment.
The ceremonies would usually include one to two speakers who were Knights or Nobles, a squire who holds the pillow on which the knight kneels, and the sword. The kind touch of the sword on each shoulder (depending) is signified as the last not lethal blow of a sword that will ever be given that will not be retaliated in combat. The touches vary, can be once, twice, three times or the blade may hover overhead. There are even cases where they are slapped with a glove - which I think is a really funny visual but I know it’s like really serious.
So, the moment they are knighted they must not use their blade for any sort of low level punishment or brawl, if someone is to be taught a lesson or fought with non lethally the knight may only use his fists or more likely punish usually with a slap, once again, i love how serious being a knight is and i never realized that its such a high honor that yeah, they don’t deserve the blade for such a low level punishment i guess ? anyway it’s interesting.
There is a passage spoken by the speaker at the end who is doing the ceremony and if they have prior relationships with the Knight it may be personalized. This could be from what the noble wants form them, what they hope to see, or even promises and trust. I love the idea of Vittorio making this speech... it’s everything to me... anyway things to think about...
With all this information, Vittorio hired Tarhos and almost definitely had Tarhos knighted for prestige, even more for status as he was Knighted late in life which is usually frowned upon... THEREFORE, As a knight of status and prestige his armor would have to be reflective as such - therefore it would have to match his status and it would have to look very nice to match the Noble who had sworn him in. Their armor would reflect the status of their lord and would show the wealth of them as well... anyway his skin with the blue accents and beautiful design is definitely Vittorio’s doing, i see you mr. toscano -- i get it -
so anyway knowing all of this is so cool to me, isn’t it interesting how like- and i’m aware most of this is headcanon/theory but i think it’s extremely easy to think Vittorio definitely had some hand in Tarhos’ late knighting, since mostly nobles would have to dish out a lot of money for ceremonies, and also that they were such a BIG status symbol after such because of the wealth !! so Tarhos must have been doing his job like really well ! Lol
none of this is canon, ive just been doing a lot of research for my fic but i truly think all this stuff is so, so neat :,) also it’s very cool to think of a one on one ceremony between Vitt and him but like probably not- but in my dreams....
anyway if you got this far and have more trivia or moreso more trivia on different knighting around the globe, more fun facts lmk! i got most of my information from articles and these two really neat guys on youtube so let me know if anything seems off!
also I did this theory instead of the Tarhos bird metaphor theory so... that one next maybe...
(04-08-2024) "Love your GF even if a monolith from unknown origin corrupted her into a demoniatic goat with teeth everywhere (be careful they bite)"
I feel like share one of my favorite illustrations of one of my fav mods! (Monday Dusk Monolith) I STILL SOOO DAMN OBSSESED WITH THEM!! Besides mod being dead with a cancelled revival, I still enjoy draw them cause they have a special place on my heart 🫶 (lie I dont have heart but if I had im sure they would have place)
Some people know I'm addicted to this au so they show me time to time fanarts they do (AND IF YOU DO YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO SHOW ME AND TAG ME TOO ISTG I LOVE THEM SM) they were one of the reasons I did this lol
I've talked too much now how I end up this uhhh look at this: 𓆏
Btw Here's some alts cause I think my ass got a lil too much excited with the fx lol
sometimes i think a little bit about how the Wyrm's ultimate Evil Ploy on Elora was to grant her heterosexual marriage and then not only does she turn that down but she and two lesbian knights defeat the evil AND THEN the Power Of Love comes in to save the heterosexual marriage guy but its literally just the power of his sister saying hey come back i miss you. and, dear readers, i find myself going insane a little
I was just messing around but now i ironically like it but i was making this strawpage for a DIFFERENT blog and now it's like. OKAY WELL. EITHER I THROW ONE TOGETHER FOR THIS BLOG TOO OR I CHANGE IT.
keep thinking abt hoshina and mina GOD.. (spoilers for manga and kn8 bside)
given what hoshina said about his previous division treating him like a burden/parasite just because he can’t handle firearms and specializes in his swords… how tiring must it have been to have to work with those people each mission despite having a common goal?
and how tiring must it have been to be constantly told off by his own father for wanting to continue his family’s tradition, or to be told to give up on being part of the jakdf by his own teacher -
before mina, a high ranking commander personally reached out to him, to recruit him into her team?
the fact that she didn’t see him during joint trainings and think: why bother with that? why bother with blades when bigger kaiju will appear? when she personally deals with bigger kaiju herself.
but she instead saw him and thought: he can help me, he can cover my weaknesses (mina not being able to handle a vegetable peeler is hilarious) and he’s someone i can trust
she sees potential in him, she sees how he can excel within her division, she saw hoshina and as captain - has probably heard everyone talk shit about him but she was still certain that he’d be one of her division’s greatest asset
(and even when platoon leader ebina refused to let hoshina help out, mina stood firm on her decision and her claim that hoshina would be useful. when she asked him if he could take down the big kaiju, and he could only promise saving the child within it - she believed him, took his word for it and waited until he carried out his promise.)
and now hoshina is the vice captain, putting faith in a new recruit whom most people wouldn’t have believed in… full fucking cycle..
tldr: it makes me rly fucking emotional to think about how hoshina was given a reason to continue improving with his swords after being told to give up all this time… and how mina had never once thought his abilities were useless 👍
also makes me crazy how protective he is of his position as vice captain, as the person who stands by captain ashiro’s side…
I’m writing this while walking to work so forgive me if it’s not entirely coherent. I think it might benefit some people to have a reminder that books and show/movie adaptations are different. Reading the book might mean you know the framework for the show/movie but it does not make you An Expert on the show/movie.
First and foremost, I’m not going to say don’t post spoilers, but I will so do not go onto someone else’s post and post spoilers. You would not like it if someone came into your house and spoiled things for you. Do not do that to others. It is not only incredibly rude. It is entirely selfish. Which brings me to my next point.
If reading the book enhances your experience, if it’s something you enjoy, I’m glad! I am so incredibly happy for you. It does not make you smarter or inherently more informed than the people that choose not to read for whatever reason.
You might know what happens and have more knowledge about the story as a whole but that does not mean that people that are posting predictions or speculations don’t know what they’re talking about. I know a lot of people that watch these shows have some sort of degree in writing or literature or visual media. Gonna use myself as an example here, I have a degree in writing. I am decent at analysis. I mostly post silly little shitposts or memes but all of my posts are operating from a place of being informed.
I am capable of predicting what’s gonna happen. I am aware of narrative structures. I’m aware of plot devices. I’m aware of the common tropes in the shows I watch. And that doesn’t matter! Because that is entirely Not The Point. I don’t care if I predict accurately. It’s not about the what happens. It’s always about how we get there.
Of all of the shows that are airing and I can pretty much tell you what the ending of each of them is going to be. Even without reading the novels. That does not make them any less enjoyable for me. It makes them even more enjoyable. Cause now I get to watch for the details. I get to watch and see how this show has decided to show the journey of the story. And sometimes how they completely rewrite expectations. Some of the things I have watched have been very, extremely good at subverting tropes and expectations. Things can veer off in directions you don’t expect even if you’ve read the novel. Simply because it’s a different story. It is imposssible to do a 1 to 1 adaptation. As much as we might want it. It is simply not possible.
I have read a few novels that the shows are based on. Every single show has made drastic changes to the source material. So while you might have knowledge of what’s to come in the novel. You might have the ability to spoil everyone for what’s coming, even you can’t be 100% sure until it happens. And condescendingly telling people it’s so obvious when you have future knowledge is incredibly unacceptable.
This has gotten very long and I am actually at work now and should probably actually do my job but I just need to reiterate. Reading the novels is fine! It’s fun! I am genuinely so happy people are reading and enjoying themselves and also enjoying the shows! That is wonderful! But do not ruin or attempt to ruin someone else’s enjoyment simply because you think you know more. Make posts about the differences on your own blog. Talk about spoilers with friends that have also read the novel. But do not go onto a stranger’s post and post spoilers because you might be ruining the media you love for that person without even realizing what you’re doing.
Eh, I was in a weird experimental mood. Have this. Dubbed 'Who Are You?'
Pretty sure I've said this but I love characters that either are not human or beyond human... because existentialism is fun to think about.
"old renaissance portrait that looked weirdly like Tim’s dad" I literally burst out laughing. I love your attention to detail.
Hal saying 'sport' has given me and Bart psychic damage. I applaud your mind.
Who was it? Who got the tramp stamp???
“How did you start… to be good.” T-T Oh buddy
WELL PLAYED THAD
Aaaaaahhhh cliffhanger!
Incredible chapter as always!!! :D
ACK i knew i forgot one of the comic references >:(
the "tramp stamp" bit is from Teen Titans (2003) Issue #13, where Raven gets a tattoo on her lower back of a black bird, ostensibly to distance herself from her father? her reasoning, the way it's drawn, and the positioning of the tattoo (w the bird facing downward and pointing to her ass) reads a bit tacky tbh. i don't believe it's ever mentioned or shown again.
funny enough it's also the same issue that Bart tried to get a tattoo of the green lantern symbol, which his hypermetabolism immediately erased the evidence of. meaning speedsters canonically cant get permanent tattoos, rip
this will be unpopular probably but idk i've been called slurs a time or two and it's personally uncomfortable to see... obviously do as you please in general but when interacting with me or my posts i'd really prefer if yall didn't casually use fag, etc in place of gay and stuff 👍
