The JL finds out Captain Marvels identity and regrets it immensely
JL find out Captain Marvels a child and they start trying to parent him and just being awkward so it’s decided that Captain Marvel will join YJ (Clark started referring to Billy only as ‘son’ and ‘young man’ one time Billy saw an airplane and Clark leaned down and went “That there, son, is called an airplane and it-” “I’ll fucking stab you istg”)
To the public Captain Marvel is just extra supervision for YJ but the hero community knows it’s a way to discretely move Captain Marvel onto a team with people his age and be ‘safer’
But it doesn’t work out the way they want bc Billy’s a chaos gremlin much like YJ so they’re just doing dumb shit in the public eye bc they technically have ‘adult supervision’ (it takes Billy fifteen minutes to convince yj to go against being supervised by green lanterns)
“We’re literally your coworkers??” “I’ve literally never seen you before besides isn’t it illegal for cops to question a minor without their guardian present? 🤨” “Technically, he’s not their coworker bc he’s not in the jl anymore” “Kon” “What? I’m just saying!” “Stfu wait does Marvel even have a guardian??” “He doesn’t”
Anita and Billy are trading magic tips and teaching each other spells they should NOT have access to esp bc they’ve blown up thirteen city blocks and 1/4 of almost every planet they’ve visited with YJ
Cassie and Billy play high stakes games of catch above the earths atmosphere with missiles and shit in their free time and also during missions
Kon and Billy do just plain dumb shit they have no business doing and then playing up the ‘I’m just a baby…and I’m not even really human/I didn’t have a childhood so how would I know that I shouldn’t do that?’ excuse after bankrupting Luthor for the third time this month along with demolishing all of his newly renovated buildings (Which he and Greta repurposed to create low income housing and food pantries)
Cissie invites Marvel to all her Olympic events and he shows up to every single one with an obnoxiously large magical banner
Bart and Billy plan quips, one liners, and trash talk together and everyone hates it bc they only use the good ones on them but villains (along with everyone in their immediate vicinity) are subjected exclusively to shit like “nuh uh” and “make me”
Greta and Billy are taking down shady government operations with zero fucks to give (they had houses built for the people affected but they did also send a very long list of people to the hospital/morgue)
Billy makes Tim a magic skateboard that flies at like Mach 1 with so many magic cameras it’s concerning bc he thinks Tim being unhinged is funny especially it inconveniences or at least stresses out batman
But they’re mostly talking about what lies they’ve told the jl recently so they can plan their lies around each other “I lied to batman yesterday so you gotta back me up” and Tim’s fabricating evidence despite having no other information bc Billy will 100% “Aren’t you a so called ‘ethical’ billionaire? Nonono it’s whatever, I just thought you’d want to look out for the people but-”
And JL tries to lecture Billy about it ‘you should be more mature. I expected better’ and he’s just like ‘why?? I’m baby 🥺 I don’t know any better’
And Green Arrow’s so goddamn confused bc ‘Bro?? I’ve watched you do negotiations when Superman’s not available…’ ‘I’m just a little guy’ ‘I’VE WATCHED YOU STOP A WHOLE ASS INVASION IN TEN MINUTES’ ‘little baby man’ ‘But you’re one of the strongest members of the league???’ ‘You do know I couldn’t tie my own shoes like six years ago, right?’ ‘HOW OLD ARE YOU’ ‘Wouldn’t you like to know’
YJ and Billy just do a bunch of petty shit until JL has had enough and they’re like fine whatever it wasn’t a problem before

Ficlet: (for FishTank Week)
All I've got in my for the moment is mini scenes, so here's a combo of prompts 1 and 2. :D
“Virg-?”
“No.” Virgil didn’t have the bandwidth for Gordon's Gordonness today. Not while the smudge on Thunderbird Two's wing, which he'd been trying to buff out all morning, was entirely Gordon's fault. See if he ever lets him pilot Two ever again.
“Aww come on, bro. I haven't even said anything yet!” Despite the blatant whine, there was a smile in his words. Which he was ignoring; Virgil was intentionally trying to focus on Two’s paint job.
Gordon leaned in to intrude on Virgil's space, and he was forced to look at him. Not a hint of remorse, the little shit.
Heavily, Virgil sighed. “Whatever it is you want, my answer's no.”
“Two looks fine, Virgil, I’m don’t even see -”
“I do!”
“Okay, big guns I guess.” Finally, Gordon’s expression cracked, a little too forced to be real. “Tickets to the Phil! Next time we are in the city,” Gordon bargained. His eyes twitched as he offered, “I'll even go with you.” The smile widened, losing no luster, as he pretended he was happy to provide such an option.
Biting back a grin, Virgil crossed his arms. Considering Gordon couldn't sit still for more than five minutes and would often fall asleep within the first minute of an andante movement, the offer of the symphony was a serious trade indeed. Philharmonic for what, though?  “Ok, I'm listening.”
“I need a wingman. Hold on, hear me out before you give me that look. There's this lecture…”
Apparently it was not just one lecture, but a series of them over the upcoming weekend. And for all his elusiveness earlier, Gordon had fully buried the lede, considering Monterey asked him specifically to guest speak. Not as International Rescue or the Olympic medalist, but solely based on an article he’d gotten published about dolphin pods and life cycles.
He knew the one. It was a good article, as researched and thorough as it was approachable. Reading it, he could hear Gordon’s voice throughout, and Virgil knew Gordon thrived in public speaking. A bold thought, but there was a part of him that considered seriously: if Gordon had ever cared enough to try to go after Scott’s job, he probably could’ve done so based on his charisma alone. It was a good thing Gordon valued his own unapologetic authenticity more than the business acumen taught to them by their father.
Gordon’s had been a different journey.
Virgil loved that for him, and loved him for it. Much more than a silly paint smudge.
“Gordon,” Virgil holds up a hand to interrupt him mid-pitch. “You can stop. Of course I’ll go with you to listen to your presentation.” Relief visibly coursed through the aquanaut, and Virgil flicked his microfiber cloth against his chest. “I’m still cashing in on the symphony, though.”
“That’s fair.”
“You could’ve just said you wanted company, you know. I would’nt’ve said no.”
Gordon clapped him on the back, beaming. “Nah, what’s the fun in that? Besides, this is what we do. And I’m getting the better end of the deal, anyway. The show’ll be -  what? - three hours at the most. You’re the one that has to deal with three days of fish,” he squeezed his shoulders, laughing, “and three hours of me fidgeting.”
Virgil groaned. And it wasn’t because of Gordon’s strong grip on his shoulders.
And just like that, Gordon released his hold and pranced off as quickly as he’d arrived.
“You’re the worst,” Virgil shouted after him.
Gordon just shimmied away in response.

Imma say it now.
Aces, how y’all have played this season so far…no way a 3-peat is happening!
Struggling against NY like this everytime is the perfect recipe for not even getting past round 1 in the playoffs.
We have NO bench. We have NO answer for an additional scorer besides A’ja. We have NO forwards and centers to be that defensive and offensive rebounder besides A’ja. We have NO guards that can not only matchup to defend other guards but also to effectively orchestrate the team w/o high t.o. rate + be a scorer + provide speed.
[y’all scored 4+4=8 points in the entire 2nd qtr]
Jackie, Kelsey, and Chelsea…all of y’all are vets with championship experience and fresh gold medal experience. Can’t even depend on y’all. Kiah and Alysha are STILL giving absolutely nothing. Kierstan is literally a flashy bench warmer that we’re keeping for some reason and if we’re not gonna give her minutes, why did we extend her contract to warm the bench? This is ridiculous. (Was expecting Olympic Megan but nope—but maybe just start her in place of Kiah and we can probably get ‘lympic Meg; it’s worth a shot because the plan now isn’t impactful at all. start Tiffany for Alysha). Sydney got 0 minutes again. The coaching is stale. Now is the time to erase every coaching plan we had pre-break and just start fresh. We need a new starting 5. Tiffany, A’ja, Jackie, Megan and Kate—Tiffany, A’ja, Jackie, Megan and Sydney—Tiffany, A’ja, Kelsey, Jackie and Megan—second string Chelsea, Alysha and Kiah mayhaps. IDK but do something else because this clearly ain’t working). Or better yet, trade some people because contending the chip will not happen with the current lineup.
Nobody else is a consistent scorer. No one else is even consistent as an all-around player.
Will see more losses than I expected. Sheesh.
Tumblr media
I’ll also say this. Becky, your off-court shady business practices undoubtedly is having negative impact on your players and morale. So let’s not.

Chapter 208 Trivia
Brody-Os! Part of a complete breakfast.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Magma is posed here like Senku is in the manga volumes' character introduction pages. He's also next to Senku's two best friends rather than Nikki and Yo.
I don't think it means anything but Magma did beat Senku this chapter… Is Magma the replacement for Senku? 🤔
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We finally see Joel's arm, and it does seem to be fully functional given he's rapidly weaving donuts between Luna and Yuzuriha (while blushing, because he still hasn't gotten used to women).
I think this implies that broken/crushed bones heal similar to piercing wounds.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The mathlympics coincides* with the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics, and the little icons on the banner they faxed are based on the ones Japan used for the sports.
*Technically the closing ceremony was a few weeks ago but the manga was on break.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This panel is interesting: either they're saying this person was revived 51st in Corn City and had the number written on him, and that it stayed on his skin despite having been written on the outer/damaged layer of stone, or that tattoos don't count as healable injuries.
Tumblr media
This could mean that the petrification only heals life-threatening injuries, as Soyuz's head scar and now this tattoo (technically the body treats the foreign ink as an infection of sorts) have stayed.
This does imply Kaseki's arthritis was considered life-threatening though…
If the number on the soldier's arm was in fact his revival number, then the population of the world is probably close to Dunbar's number already, since 51 + 75 = 126, plus the Spaniards, making the total Earth population ~150.
Tumblr media
The corn harvest here may be telling us Corn City has been back up and running for the last 60-100 days, as that's about as long corn needs to grow. If we assume the start date is October 1st, then it would be around late November/early December now.
(It could also be much earlier if this corn was still the corn growing naturally over the last 7-8 years, rather than them planting it.)
Tumblr media
Just for fun I compared the ring size to Kinro's thumb width and I think it's accurate, at least it is for my hand. His hand is a little smaller than I was expecting though…
(0.5 * 33.6 = 16.8mm if you want to check your own thumb!)
Tumblr media
Just because nixie tubes are cool, this is how the calculator number display looked. Depending on the noble gas/gases they filled it with, it could be orange-yellow, blue, or purple-pink.
(They should also have 12 pins on the bottom, one for each number+decimal point+1 anode)
Tumblr media
Gen mentions they're crossing the Indian Ocean, so I guess Math City is considered established now. The next ones are Rubber City and Aluminum City, but since they're both across the Indian Ocean from India, they could be going to either one of them. Rubber is closer, however.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The scrawny scientists are fine, but Magma is too big for his contestant podium and has to straddle it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Magma's studying payed off, he can read numbers!
Ukyo's such a good teacher :)
Tumblr media
The calculator itself is a 32 bit floating point calculator, has four functions (+, -, *, / ) and with a display that shows 12 digits, the sign (positive or negative numbers) and status (for example if a number is too big to display or some other error).
Tumblr media
The name on the calculator, Senku Intelligent - 1, may be a /very/ loose reference to the TI calculators you likely used at school, though "TI" stands for "Texas Instruments" rather than "Texas Intelligent".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These candies Minami's has next to her are definitely corn syrup based, and are probably getting stickier by the minute because sugar candies should be stored in an airtight container and that looks like an open jar.
Tumblr media
If anyone's confused by how Ryusui Bank works, I believe the plan is to add and subtract any transactions people make and save their totals on the calculator, or keep a paper record of it (=ledger). It's entirely trust based, there's nothing of physical value being traded.
The time difference between India and California is 12 hours 30 minutes, so it's probably mid-morning for the ones on the Perseus and evening for the ones in Corn City, going by the skies shown.
From what I could tell, all the magnetic memory parts were basically exactly as they described them, including the little history lesson Senku adds on page 8. There just wasn't much more to add! (I know I said this before but I loved this chapter haha)

While at Toronto, he became a five-time NBA All-Star, was named to the All-NBA Second Team once, and played for the US national team (with whom he won a gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. In the 2006–07 season, he led the Raptors to their first playoff appearance in five years and their first-ever division title. He left Toronto in 2010 as the franchise’s all-time leader in points, rebounds, blocks, and minutes played.

He played his final NBA game on February 9, 2016. Notwithstanding the NBA’s ruling, he fought to resume his playing career for three years before announcing in February 2019 that he intended to retire. The same year, the Heat retired his #1 jersey. 1 - A 2002 Olympic Curling official in their natural habitat. Curling is very much a self-regulated sport, and with one exception (more below if interested) officials are there to answer questions that can’t be answered by the teams themselves, to record the score as reported by the teams, and to call for a measurement (which is done by the head official). In all of my games (~20 I think) I don’t believe I was asked more than a couple of times to weigh in on issues other then calling for a measurement.
All of the curlers treated us great, introducing themselves and thanking us, but like officials in all sports, we were at our very best when no one know we were there. The computer is for entering scores, and keeping track of time used by the team (in the old days there was a 75 minutes / team running clock, that rule has changed significantly (for the better)). In the notebook was a roster, including alternates and coach, along with a magnetic board that I used to keep track of where the rocks were on the sheet. Now days they have a cool overhead snapshots. The mic was used to confer with my counter-part at the other end of the sheet, as well as to call the head official if needed.
The 2nd pic was the venue announcing team.
The exception - In curling there is a line called the Hog Line (link also contains an explanation as to why it’s called that), the shooter currently throwing the stone must release the stone before the front edge of the stone hits that line. If they do not, they are said to have “hogged the stone” and the offending stone is immediately removed from play. The longer you hold the stone, the more control you have, so teams will do there best to release it as late as possible. In the old days, an official sat at the hog line to watch for violations (that lone chair you see in the second picture is where that official sat). A few years ago the sport’s ruling body, the World Curling Federation, went to electronic sensors. As soon as the shooter removed their hand the light went green and as long as it was green by the time the rock hit the line it was good. This is a vast improvement, until it isn’t. In Beijing the technology broke and so they’ve turned it off and the curlers are back to the honor system. It probably won’t be a problem, particularly because most high-level tourneys use the electronic system so most players are conditioned to let go before the line, but it wouldn’t surprise me to see a few players get close.

A preview of today’s photo shoot. I’ve always been struck by the phase “she’s as beautiful as the day we met”. She’s not. She’s way more beautiful than the day we married. All of the good (and bad) are written on her amazing face, and I wouldn’t trade that for anything. Things that make sense once you know, but you don’t know till you experience it - The TV crew needs to practice as well. Which is how I and a few other officials (most of us curled competitively, just not well enough to make the 2002 Olympics) got asked to go in a day early and play a few ends (think baseball innings) so they could check lighting, camera shots, etc.
I usually played lead so I had no idea why I got asked to be a skip... Okay, if I’m honest I might know why they asked me. The 2002 US Men’s Curling team was skipped by a gentleman a dude named Tim Somerville, who while being a good curler was known to work in profanity the way some artist work in color. I was specifically asked to drop profanities frequently while I was curling so that the sound guys could practice bleeping them out.
We got to curl about 3 ends on Olympic ice (which was pretty awesome) and then, because I was the “skip” I was asked to go to the interview area and speak with my “close personal friend” Elfi Schlegel. All kidding aside, she couldn’t have been nicer and more lovely, even posing for this photo. I was asked to extend my cursing into this segment and I made her laugh out loud as a result. It was a fun day.

It’s hard for me to process that it’s been 20 years since the Salt Lake City Winter Olympic Games! Being an official for Curling events (just Men’s and Women’s in those days) at the Games was a highlight of both my personal and athletic life. Over the next couple of weeks I’ll be posting some pictures from my time in SLC.
First up is my room (why yes I was in the military) and the view out my window. They put us up in dorms at Weber State University in Ogden UT (north of SLC) and right next to the Curling venue. It was supposed to be two to a room, but my roommate never showed so it was just me.
Oh, and if you have any curling questions, let me know.

American Cole Hocker pulls Olympic shocker in men’s 1,500, leaving Kerr and Ingebrigtsen behind

American Cole Hocker pulls Olympic shocker in men’s 1,500, leaving Kerr and Ingebrigtsen behind
By EDDIE PELLS SAINT-DENIS, France (AP) — American Cole Hocker pulled the upset of the Olympics on Tuesday night, beating his personal-best time by more than 3 seconds to outrace favorites Jakob Ingebrigsten and Josh Kerr for the title at 1,500 meters. Hocker won the race in an Olympic record 3 minutes 27.65 seconds, pulling from fifth to first over the final 300 meters to take down the two runners whose rivalry dominated the buildup to the much-anticipated race. Hocker, a 23-year-old product of University of Oregon, was listed as much as a 30-1 long shot for this race. He beat Kerr by .14 seconds, while Ingebrigsten, who set the pace through the first 1250 meters, ended up in fourth behind American Yared Nuguse. It was the first U.S. win in the metric mile since Matt Centrowitz took gold in 2016. This is the first time Americans put two men on the 1,500-meter podium since the Stockholm Games in 1912. All eyes for this one were trained on Ingebrigtsen, the defending champion out of Norway who came in with a point to prove. He’d been beaten in the last two world championships, including last year by Kerr, the Scotsman who poked at Ingebrigtsen, saying Ingebrigsten only won races with pacers, the likes of which are not allowed at major races like this. Ingebrigtsen darted to the front quickly in this and ran there for the first 3 1/2 laps, while Kerr traded between second and third, getting ready for his typical windup and a potential slingshot past Ingebrigtsen over the closing stretch, much the way he did last year. While that was playing out, Hocker, at 5-foot-9 1/2 and more than 3 1/2 inches shorter than the top two contenders, almost looked like he was trying to photo bomb the end of this race. He snuck up on the inside once, only to have Ingebrigtsen block that move, then tried again, passed them both and crossed the line first, his arms outstretched and with a look of disbelief on his face. __ AP Summer Olympics: https://apnews.com/hub/2024-paris-olympic-games

9 Facts to Consider Before Choosing a Personal Trainer
Congratulations! You’ve decided to take the next step in your fitness journey and work with a professional who can assist you in reaching your health and wellness objectives. A personal training session can help you stay motivated and accountable to your weekly workouts, maximise your time at the gym, avoid injury, and experience more consistent results.
However, there is a narrow line between making a wise investment in your future fitness achievement and simply throwing money away on something that doesn’t work. What is the distinction? Knowing how to select the proper individual to assist you in setting the right goals to reach your desired results.
Tumblr media
As a result, it’s critical to exercise caution when selecting a trainer; all it takes is a little research to evaluate whether or not someone will be a good fit for your needs. After all, it’s called “personal” training for a reason: working closely together fosters a bond that will aid your ability to remain interested and motivated throughout the process.
1. Experience
A trainer in Yarraville who has been around the block a few times will likely have tested and improved his approach for offering the most significant cues to help you get the most out of every rep. So, unless you’re comfortable with being a guinea pig, resist the impulse to work with a newly certified trainer in favour of one with some prior expertise.
2. Personality
What drives you? Some people respond well to positive reinforcement sprinkled with cheerleading, while others enjoy being screamed at and intimidated into performing a few additional squats. Talk to the trainer and get a sense of her style to see whether it matches what works for you.
3. Philosophy
This is a tiny – yet critical – point of contrast that may make or break your experience. How does the trainer create his program, and what ideals does he base it on? Is it intended to be done in the gym or outside? Will you use machines or rely only on free weights? Inquire about philosophy and discover whether it fits your goals and interests.
4. Specialities
Have you heard the phrase “jack of all trades, master of none?” If you want to achieve a specific goal, such as breaking a 5k PR, you should work with a trainer who specialises in running rather than Olympic weightlifting. They will not only have more expertise in your desired subject, but they will be more passionate about it if they understand the sport’s complexities and have a genuine interest in it.
5. Cost
Trainers’ hourly rates, like expertise, attitude, and philosophy, can vary significantly based on credentials, speciality, and location (often by hundreds of dollars). So, before you start looking, sit down and consider your budget. If hourly solo sessions are now out of your price range, don’t fret; some personal trainer in Yarraville provide semi-private sessions or a discount for purchasing in quantity.
6. Availability
Because consistency is essential when working with a trainer, you should inquire about his timetable. How many clients does he currently have — for example, is he fully scheduled with little wiggle room? Is he a fan of scheduling them simultaneously every week, or does he like a flexible timetable that changes regularly? How far ahead of time should you arrange appointments, can you make up missed ones, and what is his cancellation policy?
7. Location
In addition to a specific training program based on your goals and fitness level, your trainer should have a mechanism for tracking your progress so you can see how your hard work is paying off incrementally. PRs, weight reduction, strength gains, and other accomplishments can help you keep on target and ensure that your trainer is doing her job.
8. Progress
This is another area where personal preference comes into play, so carefully think about your routines and preferences. Are you willing to drive 20 minutes across town to stay motivated, or do you prefer something close by? Where do you prefer to train? Some people are motivated by seeing others in a regular gym setting, while others like the one-on-one approach of a fitness studio, and others prefer to exercise in the quiet of their homes. The good news is that there are personal training sessions for any circumstance!
9. Reputation
A referral is the most excellent compliment a trainer can receive, but having people experience the outcomes of their clients personally is a close second. Getting individuals to achieve their goals (especially if those are comparable to yours) is the ultimate proof, and competent trainers will be eager to give success stories, testimonials, and references.
Call JosFit Personal Training Today!
Choosing a personal trainer entails weighing several criteria to achieve the best fitness results. Each factor influences the efficiency of the training relationship, from examining qualifications and experience to considering compatibility and communication styles. Understanding their training philosophy, client success stories and capacity to adjust to individual demands ensures that your fitness journey is suited to your needs. In addition, obtaining advice, checking certificates, and participating in trial sessions provide direct knowledge. Individuals can securely select a personal trainer by considering these nine facts, ensuring a positive, motivating, and practical exercise experience personalized to their objectives and interests.

Brutally honest it would be best the Aces do not keep Kiah going into next year. Stat-wise, she is the most non-producing Aces player we have. She doesn’t score at all. Okay forget scoring (not really) but she’s not even providing the rebounding presence we desperately need! I’ve looked at stats from all other teams and their duo of forward and center almost consistently puts up double-doubles. Kiah has never given this production in tandem with A’ja. Alysha goes into this conversation as well (she is a small forward or whatever so I kinda don’t expect much defensively from her but she even matches up pretty well for her smaller size. She actually compensates for her height difference against much bigger forwards and centers she’s tasked to guard a lot better than Kiah). But her lack of scoring—it’s become a huge sore factor for us. She can be traded too if you ask me. A’ja can’t have a single game of underscoring or else we walk away with the L because not only do these 2 players not make up her slack, the entire team doesn’t. A can’t score under 20 or else we lose. Heck, she almost can score 30+ and we barely win.
I don’t get why the coaching plans never adjust to bench Kelsey when she starts majorly slacking in every area. When she starts selfishly taking circus shots and starts to dribble in circles leading to a turnover. Kate is right there to replace her when she decides to operate this way and it’s becoming extremely questionable why the coaching continues that. Sydney comes in way too late (but she came in tonight and was a negative impact). By the time Becky decides to put her in, we’re too far gone. Tiffany should start. We just need for her to lessen her fouls and knock down those uncontested paint shots a whole lot more. It’s so frustrating seeing how many layups she misses.
What are we doing with KB? Now, she’s just taking up trade space at this point.
Kate and Megan should be getting more minutes. Try something else. And I’m this close to saying…no, I won’t go there but can we please trade or sign for the number 1 (and 2) position? An additional guard, specifically a point, would be beneficial for Chelsea. She’s not giving the same minutes or production from last season since the injury and them not recognizing this and doing something about it 2 months ago is beyond me. And now, she’s also become an offensive turnover liability too with her over dribbling and force passing.
Still maintaining that post-Olympic Jackie is off. She’s on sleep mode or something. Something is different. Big nite tonight but that’s been this one game since coming back.
Becky…you deliberately sabotaging the team this season? It’s gotten so bad that I actually verbally said out loud to myself, “Trade Becky.” We talking about trading players—maybe we need to trade her. Coaches don’t get traded but fired. So there’s that.
We are running out of time! Regroup and repurpose now.

Name: Nabbit
Debut: New Super Mario Bros. U
Nabbit! You all know him, you love him, you asked for him! By which I mean we got an Ask asking to cover Nabbit, and I had previously no intention of doing so but it made me think, hey, I WOULD like to talk about Nabbit! Thanks @oddity-txt!
Nabbit! Like. Nab it. Cause he’s a rab-a thief, he’s a rabbit thief you get it yeah. This guy is a real piece of work, let me tell you! He steals items from Toad Houses and runs off with them! Those are for Mario! Can you believe not everyone in this economy agrees with hoarding power-ups to give them away to Mario in wacky chance-based minigames? So its up to you to chase him down. And chase him down you do!
But why does Nabbit want these items? Does he just enjoy the thrill of the chase? Or is he just trying to provide for his family? Can he sell them on the item black market? Why would there be an item black market when you can find this stuff anywhere on the street? Mario doesn’t care. Mario wants to attack the symptom of the problem rather than addressing the systemic cause.
Tumblr media
Still, I feel like we need to have a good talk about what Nabbit is... other than a hooligan, obviously! Earlier I called him a rabbit but taking a look at him, it’s fairly clear he’s wearing some kind of rubbery rabbit suit, with only the black arms and feets sticking out... So of course we need to speculate all the possibilities! Possibility A is that he is a human or some other known character in disguise, which isn’t fun. Next! Possibility B is that he’s an actual rabbit wearing a rabbit-shaped bodysuit, which I quite like because it is absurd. Possibility 3 is none of the above and he is some mystery creature, which I’ll leave up to YOU to imagine because I’m not entirely sure what that would be.
Point number 2 about Nabbit’s ambiguous identity: the bandanna! It has a similar (but not identical) design to Bowser Jr.’s bandanna, and even though he does not work for Bowser, it just feels like a strangely specific design choice! I can get why Junior wants to look ferocious, but Nabbit is more of the stealthy type right? Because of this I’ve always envisioned Nabbit as having actual fangs under the bandanna, like the Impostor from Amongus, which you can’t disprove because he’s never been seen without it.
Or maybe it’s just fashion. It’s probably just fashionable.
This isn’t the last we’ll see of Nabbit of course! The developers of New Super Mario Bros. U had precisely three (3) new ideas, and damn if they weren’t gonna milk them for all they’re worth! I could get upset that characters from the New Super series get this treatment when other more beloved characters from spin-offs don’t, but also, come on... look at the guy! I can’t stay mad at him! He’s purple!
Tumblr media
So in Nabbit’s next ever appearance, New Super Luigi U... he became playable! Wow, that was quick! With Mario gone, they scrambled around the office for anyone they could find to fill his place, and they settled on Nabbit! They’re not paying Nabbit extra though, so he kind of had to phone it in.
Tumblr media
In this game, Nabbit is totally invincible! Why? Maybe he is like Wario and simply does not care enough to get hit. He can’t use power-ups because they didn’t have the budget to design new costumes for him and he can’t pick up items or ride Yoshis. The game frames this as an “easy mode”, but what kind of easy mode forces one player to always use it? Let’s be honest, it’s because they didn’t want to make a brand new character. The Year of Luigi was a tough time for Nintendo!
So rather then collect power-ups he just puts them in his bag, and they get converted into 1-Ups at the end of the level. Is THIS what he was stealing those items for? Is Nabbit’s ultimate goal to reach immortality through illegally trading 1-Up mushrooms? Maybe something like that probably. It’s kinda fun that he’s a ‘bad guy’ but Luigi and friends don’t really mind keeping him around.
Tumblr media
Nabbit also appears in spin-offs of course. Enough spin-offs that he feels like a proper modern Mario character, but sparsely enough that you think “wow, they put Nabbit in this game?” when they put Nabbit in the game. Here he is in the Rio Olympics, and you could make a very easy joke about him being a thief in Rio de Janeiro, which I won’t. Instead I will ask: why the heck is he carrying his sack in a marathon! Just let go dude! Don’t they have changing room lockers in the Olympics?
Tumblr media
Here he is in Golf! As DLC, for all the six people out there who loved Mario Golf World Tour so much they simply had to get new characters for it. This picture labels him as an Eagle but I’m pretty sure he isn’t one, though I might be wrong.
Tumblr media
Here is Nabbit, well known thief, outlaw, and general ne'er-do-well as a doctor! I mean, I know the healthcare system is a scam but this is a little on the nose don’t you think? He just put a pill sticker on his thief sack and called it a day! Can we even be sure there are pills in there? What if he is prescribing patients with stolen Super Acorns from Acorn Plains 5 - Rise of the Piranha Plants? Oh no!
Tumblr media
Nabbit Mario Kart? It is more likely than you think! Of course only in the mobile game with a gacha. They could’ve done it in Mario Kart 8 but they know people will pay good money for Nabbit! Well jokes on them because I got him in the gacha for free. Nyeeh.
Tumblr media
Nabbit is also in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam! Did you know this? I didn’t play Paper Jam, so I didn’t. I’m sorry. You need to catch him in order to get Bros. Attack items. At one later point, you even fight him! Or rather, fight enemies he kept in his bag, while he naps in the background. Is that legal? He can also pop out behind you and steal your hammers to whack you with. Yeouch!
However, he also fights ALONGSIDE you for some fights against Bowser’s minions, acting basically like a fourth party member, except you can’t control him or anything. He gives the Bros. healing items from his bag or will occasionally bonk an enemy himself. Hooray for morally ambiguous characters! I guess he’s cool with anything as long as he gets what he wants.
Tumblr media
Finally, I would like to talk about Nabbit in Super Smash Bros.! As one of the few original things to NSMBU, he of course appears in the Mushroom Kingdom U, alongside equally iconic characters like Beanstalk and Water Geyser! In this game he’ll grab people and stuff them in his bag, and then proceed to just... fly away, so they are killed. Wait a minute. A thief who kidnaps characters only to kill them and himself...? That sounds familiar!
Tumblr media
I knew it! This wasn’t really Nabbit at all, but rather Tac from Kirby Super Star sneakily disguised as Nabbit! Sakurai thought he could sneak you into this stage to satiate his never-ending lust for Kirby Super Star references in Smash... He wasn’t even content just having you in Smash Run and Smash Tour!
Well, mystery solved everyone! I think we can go ahead and end this post while we arrest Tac for his crimes of identity theft, and not regular theft, which isn’t really an actual crime after all.
