What are some facts or tidbits about Daniel that you don't think is very well-known?
Hey! Thanks for the great question. I have a few things not a lot of people have talked about Daniel, all of which are information taken from his father's book: "Walking in Daniel's Shoes".
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Facts about Daniel Mauser
1. Daniel's name came from the Biblical character Daniel and his mother Linda's fondness of Elton John's song titled with the same name. Conner was Linda's maiden name and since she was an only child, it was a way for them to carry her family's last name.
2. In sixth grade, he struggled somewhat with depression. After his mother sent him to a therapist, it was revealed that he was feeling stressed because at the time, he had pneumonia and missed school a few times. He felt that his teacher was pressuring him to catch up. Fortunately, he recovered after a few months.
3. Daniel used to be in cub scouts and boy scouts for a few years. Once school had became more hectic and he was more engaged in piano lessons, he dropped out of the scouts. He had earned basic badges but was not too enthusiastic with scouting long-term.
4. On July 24, 1999, Boy Scout 359 installed a park bench in Daniel’s memory along the South Rim Trail at Roxborough State Park, ten miles south of Columbine. Daniel was once a member of the Boy Scout Troop that preceded 359. Roxborough was the Mauser family’s favorite hiking area.
5. He played chess and won second place in a Denver metro tournament as a member of the school's chest club team. He also won two National Science Olympiad awards, presented to the top ten scorers in general science knowledge.
6. He was an occasional babysitter and was great with kids.
7. He was a Junior Volunteer at Swedish Hospital for two summers and helped in the pharmacy and he expressed interest in working in a medical or medical research field.
8. Despite winning often in games like Super Mario Brothers and even Foosball, his dad had caught on he was getting bored of playing with him, but despite that, he still played whenever he was invited because that was how much he loved his father.
9. He had a keen interest in current events and social issues and was a frequent reader of Time Magazine and viewer of 60 Minutes.
10. His father said he sometimes worried about little things, like if the gas tank in the car was getting too low.
11. He played soccer for a couple of years when he was younger, tried skiing, and played baseball on a YMCA team.
12. Before his death, Daniel's Biology teacher told his mother that he would be receiving an award for outstanding sophomore biology student. It was a supposed secret, one which Daniel never found out.
13. His family was very close. Tom described them as a "Dinner Table Family", who always ate dinner together. According to his father's words, "there was no sneaking off to watch the TV or play on the computer. We are together, talked together, and exchanged stories."
14. Daniel and his sister were close despite their contrasting personalities. Daniel was more like his mother—shy, introspective, intelligent, and calm. His sister Christine was like her father—outgoing, witty, a bit wild and crazy. He would often roll his eyes at her and in an exasperated tone, he would exclaim, "Theater people! Oh, my God!"
15. He had a dry sense of humor and his mom thought he prided himself on being a rational sort of fellow who was not given to drama of any sort.
16. Tom, Daniel's father, grew out of poverty. He came from Finelyville, a small town south of Pittsburgh. His father was a coal miner, his mother was a housewife, and he was the youngest out of four siblings. Tom rarely had pictures of himself. However, he didn't want that to happen with his children, so he would frequently take their pictures and film them to keep memories.
17. Daniel didn't like his pictures being taken when he was a teen. His father would still insist to take pictures for keepsake.
18. When he was fifteen and a half, Daniel was qualified to receive his driver's permit but he said he wasn't ready yet.
19. His nickname in debate class, according to Devon Adams, was "Moose": "So appropriate —it's a large, amusing but quick and fierce when-it-needs-to-be animal."
20. Daniel volunteered to rake the leaves off the lawn of a neighborhood senior citizen's house after he recently had a heartattack.

Top Study Resources for the International Cyber Olympiad.
Choosing the right study materials for the International Cyber Olympiad will influence your performance and understanding of the tough concepts that inherently make up cybersecurity. Getting an official syllabus for the International Cyber Olympiad, stating what topics and skills are expected, would be a good starting point. Back these up with general study material, such as "Cybersecurity Essentials" by Charles J. Brooks and "Computer Security" by William Stallings. Massively big online courses are available at places like Coursera and Udemy, which provide specially tailored courses aligned to cybersecurity, often supplementing lessons with online labs and real-life examples. Sites such as Cybrary and Hack The Box serve as hands-on training grounds where you test theoretical knowledge against simulated cyber challenges.
Always keep yourself updated through forums like Stack Exchange and the Reddit cybersecurity community to get insight into new trends, so probably at some juncture or another, you will get "aha" moments on topics where other pros realize something. Mastering Olympiad past papers and sample questions will help one get used to the form of any exam and, more particularly, the form of questions usually set. Turning through all this literature together will help not only in preparing a competitor but also go a great distance in deepening a candidate's general knowledge of cybersecurity to a remarkable extent.

Shadi Rostami, SVP of Engineering at Amplitude – Interview Series
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/shadi-rostami-svp-of-engineering-at-amplitude-interview-series/
Shadi Rostami, SVP of Engineering at Amplitude – Interview Series
Shadi is SVP of Engineering at digital analytics leader Amplitude. She is a passionate, seasoned technology leader and architect experienced in building and managing highly proficient engineering teams. Prior to Amplitude, she was VP of Engineering at Palo Alto Networks. She has innovated and delivered several product lines and services specializing in distributed systems, cloud computing, big data, machine learning and security.
Amplitude is built on modern machine learning and generative AI technologies that enable product teams to build smarter, learn faster, and create the best digital experiences for their customers.
What initially attracted you to computer science and engineering?
I grew up in Iran and originally pursued a high school path that would enable a career in medicine, which was the path my father wanted me to take and the one my brother did. About a year and a half in, I decided it was not the path for me. Instead, I pursued engineering and ended up becoming the first girl in Iran to go to the Informatic Olympiad (IOI) and won the Bronze medal, a yearly competition for high school students around the world competing in math, physics, Informatics, and chemistry. That led me to pursue engineering at Sharif University of Technology in Iran and later get my Ph.D. in computer engineering at the University of British Columbia in Canada. After that, I worked for startups for a few years and then spent a decade at Palo Alto Networks, eventually becoming a VP responsible for development, QA, DevOps, and data science. Five years ago, I moved to Amplitude as the SVP of Engineering.
Could you discuss Amplitude’s core AI philosophy that AI should aid humans in improving their work rather than replacing them?
AI is quickly transforming almost every industry, and with the transformation comes questions about how companies will use the technology. We feel strongly about getting AI right. This belief led us to develop our customer-centric AI philosophy, which stands upon five main principles: (1) collaborative development and thought partnership, (2) data governance and user data protection, (3) transparency, (4) privacy, security, and regulatory compliance, and (5) customer choice and control. We know these principles are key as companies continue to adopt and test AI and eventually become truly data-driven. For our purposes, this means building AI tools that help people get to insights faster. When harnessed properly, these insights lead to faster, better decisions that drive bottom-line results. Using AI as a tool to complement human intelligence and creativity is where I see AI having its greatest impact.
Can you explain the concept of ‘data democracy’ in the context of today’s AI-driven business environment?
“Data democracy is driven by the knowledge that teams function better, faster, and more efficiently when they can access the right data insights at the right time. In today’s rapidly advancing AI-driven environment, teams can’t afford to wait days or weeks for data pulls. To mitigate this, companies must empower their teams to leverage data in a self-service way. Now, this doesn’t mean data chaos with no parameters. At the end of the day, bad data leads to bad AI. But with the right tools and processes in place, businesses can balance data democratization with data governance, enabling better business outcomes.”
What key shifts in organizational culture do you believe are essential for enabling true data democracy in the age of AI?
Establishing a true data democracy within your organization starts with two foundational culture shifts: providing the right, most accessible tools and conducting organization-wide efforts around data literacy. This means adopting self-service tools that allow non-technical team members, such as marketing or customer success teams, to not only access data but also analyze and take action on it. I believe self-service data analytics can and should fuel collaboration across teams, inspire curiosity and exploration, scale data literacy, and place a bias on action and impact.  Also, it is important to spend joint efforts between the central data team and line of business teams to do continuous data governance to make sure data quality does not degrade over time.
In your experience, what are the most significant challenges organizations face in achieving data democratization, and how can they overcome these obstacles?
In the past, companies have tried to centralize data within one team of experts, leaving the rest of the organization reliant on this team to deliver analysis and key insights that may be critical to their day-to-day operations and decision-making. While democratizing data access is critical to solving this bottleneck, it can also be challenging. When I speak to data leaders about operationalizing self-service, it’s clear there is a spectrum. On one end, you have low setup tools for non-technical and line-of-business teams. Ultimately, these tools do not give the depth and breadth of answers that these teams need. On the other end, you have more technical tools for more technical teams. They are much more flexible in terms of analysis, but they are slow, and likely very few people can even use them. We refer to these tools as creating a “data breadline” … you’re always waiting for answers. Teams need a solution in the middle. Think out-of-the-box solutions that encourage, not inhibit, exploration and experimentation. With the proper tooling and team education, companies can more easily bridge the data democratization gap.
How crucial is data literacy in the process of data democratization, and what steps should companies take to improve it among their employees?
Fostering an environment of data democratization across your teams is a cultural challenge that requires education and company-wide buy-in. In my experiences with teaching data processes to non-technical members, the best way to develop these skills is through a combination of training and hands-on learning. I recommend developing a comprehensive training program to ensure employees feel comfortable and confident in the insights they’re pulling from their data. Make sure you are using a tool that does not prohibit non-technical users: for example, any tool that requires knowledge of SQL would marginalize folks without programming expertise. From there, provide opportunities for employees to dive in and start playing around with the data. Finally, implement a tool that fosters exploration and collaboration. The less people are working in silos, the more they can bounce ideas off of each other, leading to more illuminating insights. If you are a data professional teaching a non-technical team member, remember that you have spent years learning how to obtain and use data, so you think about it differently from the casual user. Be open to teaching others rather than doing everything yourself. Otherwise, you’ll never have any free time to do anything aside from answering people’s questions.
With the rapid evolution of data tools and generative AI technologies, how should companies adapt their strategies to stay ahead in data management and utilization?
Data governance is one of the main challenges companies still face, and it’s something every organization must nail down to empower meaningful AI and data experiences. AI is only as good as the data that powers it, and clean data leads to more impactful insights, happier users, and business growth. In this way, companies must be proactive about data cleanup and taxonomy, and there are opportunities to use generative AI to manage your AI governance and quality. For example, at Amplitude, we launched our AI-powered Data Assistant product last year, which offers intelligent recommendations and automation to make data governance seamless and help users take charge of data quality efforts.
How does Amplitude enable enterprises to better understand the customer journey?
Building great digital products and experiences is hard, especially in today’s competitive landscape. Today, many companies still don’t know who they’re building for or what their customers want. Amplitude helps businesses answer questions like, “What do our customers love? Where do they get stuck? What keeps them coming back?” through quantitative and qualitative data insights. Our platform helps businesses better understand the end-to-end customer journey by surfacing data to help drive the customer acquisition, monetization, and retention cycle. Today, more than 2,700 customers, including enterprise brands like Atlassian, NBC Universal, and Under Armour, leverage Amplitude to build better products.
Thank you for the great interview, readers who wish to learn more should visit Amplitude.

Note
This might be long, I'm sorry.
1: did you get diagnosed?
2: if yes, how did you go about convincing your parents to pull their heads out of their asses and listen for once?
If no, how did you go about dealing with the rsd of ' what if they're right and I am reading what I want into it' ( if you have experienced this ofc)
3: how do you go from recognizing you have a problem to doing something it. ( Can't seem to figure this one out on my own)
4; I hope you have a great day. And this doesn't reach you when you're tired. Feel free to take your time with it.❤️
Thank you for asking. I didn't realized I had asks on my inbox, so this comes a little late. To answer your questions:
1. Yes I did get diagnosed by a psychiatrist, who specializes in the field. I am now in the process of getting a new assessment of ADHD and ASD from a psychologist, referred by my psychiatrist.
2. I didn't have to tell my parents anything, because I am an adult and they no longer control my life. Either way, I doubt they'd be surprised, since 2 of my siblings are diagnosed with schizophrenia and another is self isolating in his room for the last 5-6 years.
3. I had many issues as a child and teen, but mental health wasn't a priority in my family and didn't know much about it. As a teen, I knew I was different in ways of thinking and behavior, but thought myself as 'normal' and tried to fit in with my peers (I had a few good friends who accepted who I was). I was also somewhat gifted in STEM fields, because of my logical and analytic thinking. I was reading a lot of books about things that interested me (e.g I once read a book about Pascal programming, so I was always ahead of my peers at IT class) therefore I was developing important skills like problem solving and thinking logically. I obsessed over physics, so I was reading Stephen Hawkin, Wineberg, Michio Kaku etc, so I won a few olympiads in physics and mathematics and was seen as a physics genius in my school. I painted my walls with planets and the cosmos and wrote famous physics formulas. It was unusual yes, but I was too obsessed to even care what others think. My native language is not English, but I learned through reading and English movies. I adopted many behaviors and attitudes from movie heros to kinda sorta regulate my behavior (didn't really work).
My point is: I laid emphasis so much on my special interests that it really boosted my self esteem (alas in an artificial way) and made me appreciate my talents rather than focusing on the negative aspects. Some of my peers did bully me by saying things like "you only know physics" when I didn't know gossip knowledge, or casted me as a lesbian because I wasn't interested in boys of my age and cut my hair short. It hurt back then, but I somehow kept my head high and carried on. "Soon enough I will be at university in a foreign country away from all of them" I was telling myself, while doubling down on my interests.
It was only very recently (at 32) that I decided to take action and care for my mental health, when I realized not many things in my life satisfied me anymore, despite a successful career, happy marriage, access to traveling and luxury etc. My ADHD symptoms started showing and I was switching interests and jobs frequently. I was a pain in the butt to my husband with my constant nagging and rigidity and was in general depressed and couldn't focus on my job. Knowing that I had ADHD and having it confirmed gave some comfort and also alleviated some of my symptoms with medication and psychotherapy. And believe me, despite my diagnosis I still have the same doubts you have. But then I read or see a meme about ADHD, so I reaffirm myself that maybe I am not faking it.
My advice to young undiagnosed persons, who suspect they are on the spectrum (whether ADHD/ASD) with unwilling/ignorant parents is to focus on yourself and your interests when you are still a teenager. You have a very unique ability to hyperfocus on your interests that you can potentially make a career out of and become very successful. That potential is still there, whether you are diagnosed or not and you should make perfect use of it now. Be unique and be bold about your interests and who you are and find friends who appreciate you for being who you are. Adulthood will get to you all soon enough and you would have the tools (and money) to get the diagnosis, if it's still a big issue in your life, or is important to you.

Take a lot of scientific research programs in the school. If your school offers sophisticated placement science courses, see if you can take these. Great knowledge of mathematics is vital to becoming an inventor.
Join college clubs that will certainly assist you to develop
Discovering from others is important to becoming an inventor, and also there might be clubs in your college that motivate you to invent. Sign up with a variety of after college clubs that will certainly assist you to become an inventor.
You might join a club like the Science Olympiads, where you'll learn a whole lot about scientific research as well as innovation. You can additionally attempt signing up with something like the chess club, which encourages abstract thought. In some institutions, there are clubs where trainees collaborate on a solitary creation over your term. See if your institution uses a club similar to this.
Practice leisure activities that feed your imagination
Creative imagination is vital to ending up being an inventor. Take part in a range of leisure activities that feed your imagination and permit you to create the ingenious mind of an inventor.
If you're out of cinnamon, for example, you'll have to improvisate by locating a comparable flavor. If your characters get right into tough situations, you'll have to issue resolve following the regulations of your imaginary world. Take the campaign in everyday moments to be creative. You can also check how to get my invention off the ground
Generating Ideas
To begin, try to determine where there is a demand for a brand-new product. As an inventor, you ought to have an analytical mind.
Think about what market you want. If you're interested in songs and electronic devices, believe concerning what makes the iPod so desirable. Tap into what customers want in an offered market. Do individuals want to far better themselves? Do they desire entertainment, benefit? Each time you see someone delighting in a product or service, quit as well as ask on your own, "Why does this person using this service? What about this product is satisfying for him or her? What demand is being met below?"
Think about what is missing
With any market, there's constantly something missing. The very best inventors understand the principles of a field and seek where maybe broadened. The individuals that invented solutions like Uber and also Lyft realized taxi services were no much longer cutting it. People desired a much more individualized experience and also hungered for the broad schedule as well as ease of calling a taxicab without having to make a phone call or locate one on the street. Explore an existing market as well as ask yourself what is missing out on.
What functions do they want that is not presently provided by Apple? You can try asking buddies to identify what's missing. The answer could provide you an idea for an invention for the songs market.
Increase on existing products
Can you think of a brand-new spin on an existing item or service? If so, this may be a great item to attempt to invent and also market.
Research the market before you start. You want to ensure that your idea hasn't been done before. Somebody may have attempted your idea and found it not successful for different factors. Ensure your concept is substantially varied than existing suggestions or products. It's also similar to something on the market, you could get in difficulty for infringing on a copyright or patent.
Identify the capability you need to get your suggestion off the ground.
You may have a wonderful suggestion, however, do you have the abilities needed to generate it? Make a checklist of talents you require to produce the item in question. If you do not have these skills on your own, you may need to dedicate some time to grow them before you get things rolling with your item.
You may have a stellar concept for a phone application, yet little experience functioning with technology. You might have to take some coding classes for phone applications.
Do not hesitate to outsource
If you do not have all the abilities you need and also do not want to make the effort to create them, do not be afraid to outsource. Inventors can seldom do whatever they need to do to create an invention. If you have particular weaknesses, that's fine. You can discover others to help you in these areas.
If you don't understand where to start on your phone application, discover a freelance tech individual online, and also see if they would be prepared to do some of the work for you.
You can likewise network with good friends. If you have a good friend who has a flair for developing points, your close friend may be willing to collaborate with you to generate those hiking footwear. Whatever you do, see to it you sort out exactly how to split finances in the event your invention sells in advance.
If you want to be an inventor as a child, find ways to cultivate your creative thinking. Inventors understand just how to believe outside the box as well as find brand-new and innovative services to a range of problems. These are all locations that are vital if you want to be an inventor, as you'll need to have the knowledge required to develop your jobs. The best inventors recognize the basics of a field and look for where it could be increased. Inventors can seldom do everything they require to do to produce an invention. follow inventhelp for more advice https://www.instagram.com/inventhelp/?hl=en

Know all about Olympiads and prepare your kids for the best results
Tumblr media
Olympiads, commonly referred to as Olympiad exam , are a form of competitive exam that is thought to be a way for kids to identify their extraordinary academic talents and maximise their potential. These exams help kids in developing their capacity for learning, logical reasoning, time management, and scientific ability, all of which are enormously helpful when handling more challenging exams or situations in the future.
Olympiad exams are conducted on both a national and worldwide scale, providing a great platform for assessing a kid's capabilities with those of their peers in other parts of the nation or even the globe.
National Olympiad Exam: These Olympiads are conducted by several independent governments and private organisations in which kids from various states, i.e., from all across the country, participate. National Olympiads include the National Science Olympiad (NSO), the National Social Studies Olympiad (NSSO), the National Essay Olympiad (NESO) etc.
International Olympiad Exam: These Olympiads are conducted by international educational institutions in which kids from all around the world participate. National Olympiads include the International Maths Olympiad (IMO), International English Olympiad (IEO), General Knowledge International Olympiad (GKIO), etc.
Here are a few of the benefits of taking an Olympiad Examination.
It offers kids an excellent platform for exposure and empowers them to confidently handle whatever challenges they may face in the future.
It piques interest not just in academic subjects but also in current affairs throughout the world.
It flawlessly nurtures and develops logical and analytical thinking skills with its well-designed curriculum.
It helps in comprehending in-depth subject knowledge rather than relying on blindly memorising ideas and concepts.
It establishes a fundamental foundation in subjects such as Maths, Science, and English, which not only helps them excel in Olympiads but also in school-based exams.
It offers a comprehensive assessment of both strengths and weaknesses, allowing kids to realise their potential and concentrate on their weak areas.
Given the benefits listed above, it is apparent that Olympiad exams provide kids the much needed boost of confidence and motivation to take on challenges from an early age.
ALLEN Skool Plus Workbooks is one of the top Olympiad books for kids in grades 1 to 8, helping them in succeeding not just in Olympiads but also in school examinations. It is India's first collection of workbooks prepared in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP) guidelines.
Here are some of the reasons why kids should use the ALLEN SkoolPlus workbook to prepare for Olympiads:
It has more than 1800 well crafted questions covering hundreds of topics. Kids become prepared and self-assured to respond to any inquiries that may arise.
It contains crisp and to-the-point theories and concepts. This makes the subject simpler for the kid and lessens the likelihood that they would need any other reference books while studying.
It also includes specialised books for improving logical thinking abilities, which guarantees that kids have appropriately honed skills aside from topic knowledge.
It has a precisely timed progressive bookmark that allows kids to track their progress and plan accordingly
It is created under the supervision of Child Development Experts, Global Standard Content Researchers, Brain Trainers, and Pedagogy Experts, guaranteeing that the kids are exposed to appropriate study material.
The ALLEN IntelliBrain SkoolPlus box includes at least seven books covering the 5 main subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, Logical thinking, and General Knowledge, as well as an answer key. Thus, with such a superbly created workbook, this is undoubtedly the finest resource one can provide to kids in order for them to excel at Olympiads.

Discover Tinkerly's Innovation Lab For Kids
The education practices have been revolutionized in the last few years. In earlier days, a teacher taught a student by drawing a diagram on the blackboard or by pointing out the diagram in the academic textbook. Since that time, the education system has progressed toward showing the student a 3D animated video in a Smart class. But the thing is, science needs experimentation.
As per famous scientist & Inventor, Benjamin Franklin:
Tell me something, I forget easily, teach me something, I remember, involve me and I learn.
In order to truly understand the real-life concept of Science, one has to perform a live experiment without mugging up the concept. When a student performs a live experiment, it teaches them the practical angle of how things work in real-life scenarios. They will gain real experience by performing STEM-based activities and get the satisfaction of gaining knowledge. This is where Tinkerly's Innovation Lab comes in. With the help of the innovation lab program blends the school's existing lesson plan and enables teachers to provide high-quality science education to their students in the classroom.
Now the question arises what exactly is an Innovation Lab for kids.
Let's talk about it in detail.

Reading Comprehension Tactics for the English Olympiad.
The obvious one is the reading comprehension that shall be mastered regarding the English Olympiad. Start scanning from the general knowledge of the passage down to the main idea and structure. The first and last sentences mostly give off cues because they contain the primary message. After doing this, actively read by highlighting or underlining key points since it helps in retaining information and easily finding the answer. Be on the lookout for connecting words that have meaning: "however," "therefore," and "moreover" very often signal a shift in reasoning or the key conclusion.
Learn vocabulary daily because the more certain you are about the words of your reading, the better you will be able to understand rigorous texts. Finally, answer the questions in order because they usually follow the sequence of the passage and are thus easier to locate. Try to summaries each paragraph in your own words. It does help to know what the paragraph means. Finally, try the Olympiad papers from previous years to get a feel of the kind of questions coming and the time in which everything has to be completed. Only when all these measures are combined will you be able to read with comprehension and do very well in the English Olympiad?
