nothing but respect for our troops (smut writers) but listen. i dont want to be the person to tell you this, but not every character is going to be a dom or a sub. some people. and i know this is hard to hear. but some people do have vanilla sex. and some of those people might even be The Character.

You know actually this is the line I love the most about P&P, the whole I was… entirely wrong about him.

People nowadays are so fucking afraid of being proven wrong or being wrong at all (for no reason btw, being wrong means you get to experience growth, it's not a flex to be the wisest bitch around forever, that literally means you'll never grow again?) and I find it actually difficult to find books or people who will go "oh yeah I was so wrong" and be totally chill about that.

But I love being wrong, because sure it knocks me down a few pegs but also it opens up my world and I get to see a new perspective?

And I think you only really grow when you have perspectives being opened out the ass, you know what I mean? like "damn I never saw it that way" and then your brain fucking EXPANDS.

Anyway we should embrace being wrong more often.

It's very possible that the only way to ensure you don't become a conservative old person is to keep checking whether you're wrong. Every time. Genuinely mull over the opposing viewpoint even and especially when it's uncomfortable. You absolutely cannot a) consider yourself safely incapable of terrible principles because you're a good person, or b) treat a your disgust reaction to something as a moral truth. You can't get comfortable. Tiring! But you'd rather be tired and choose the right path, you know?
